Abstract:Background: Hyperuricemia is a common condition that can lead to gout and other related diseases. It has been suggested that Inflammatory factors play important role in the development and progression of hyperuricemia. The dietary inflammatory index (DII) enables the assessment of the inflammatory potential of an individual's diet. This study aimed to investigate the association between DII and hyperuricemia. Methods: This study was performed based on a cross-sectional dataset from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2005-2018. Participants aged 18 years and above with dietary intake and serum uric acid level information were included. DII scores were calculated using dietary intake data, based on which participants were categorized into tertiles. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was adopted to investigate the association between DII and hyperuricemia. Results: Among a total of 31,781 participants in the analysis, 5,491 had hyperuricemia. After adjusting confounding factors, the odds of hyperuricemia are significantly higher in the second (OR 1.17, 95% CI 1.07-1.29) and third tertiles (OR 1.31, 95% CI 1.19-1.44) relative to the first one. Conclusion: This study suggested that diet with higher inflammatory potential, as measured by DII, is associated with increased hyperuricemia risk. These findings indicated that dietary modification may be a potential approach for hyperuricemia's prevention and control.

Abstract:Background: Hyperuricemia, as a very prevalent chronic metabolic disease with increasing prevalence year by year, poses a significant burden on individual patients as well as on the global health care and disease burden, and there is growing evidence that it is associated with other underlying diseases such as hypertension and cardiovascular disease. The association between hyperuricemia and dietary inflammatory index (DII) scores was investigated in this study. Methods: This study enrolled 13, 040 adult subjects (aged ≥ 20 years) from the US National Health and Nutrition Survey from 2003 to 2018. The inflammatory potential of the diet was assessed by the DII score, and logistic regression was performed to evaluate the relationship between the DII score and the development of hyperuricemia; subgroup analyses were used to discuss the influence of other factors on the relationship. Results: Participants in the other quartiles had an increased risk of hyperuricemia compared to those in the lowest quartile of DII scores. Stratification analyses stratified by body mass index (BMI), sex, hypertension, drinking, diabetes, education level and albumin-creatinine-ratio (ACR) revealed that the DII score was also associated with the risk of hyperuricemia (P<0.05). There was an interaction in subgroup analysis stratified by sex, age, and hypertension (P for interaction <0.05). The results showed a linear-like relationship between DII and hyperuricemia, with a relatively low risk of developing hyperuricemia at lower DII scores and an increased risk of developing hyperuricemia as DII scores increased. Conclusions: This study showed that the risk of hyperuricemia increased at slightly higher DII scores (i.e., with pro-inflammatory diets), but not significantly at lower levels (i.e., with anti-inflammatory diets). The contribution of the DII score to the development of hyperuricemia increased with higher scores. The relationship between inflammatory diets and hyperuricemia requires more research on inflammation, and this study alerts the public that pro-inflammatory diets may increase the risk of developing hyperuricemia.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:This study aimed to assess the association between Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) score and death among adults with hyperuricemia. METHODS:We collected data from the 2001 to 2018 cohorts of the National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey. Death information was obtained based on death certificate records from the National Death Index through December 31, 2019. The associations between DII score and all-cause, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and cancer death were investigated by using Cox proportional hazards regression models. RESULTS:We enrolled 7,786 participants with hyperuricemia in this study. The DII score ranged from -4.42 to 4.61. Higher DII score was significantly associated with higher levels of body mass index, glycohemoglobin, glucose, low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol, and C-reactive protein (all P < 0.05). During 67,851 person-years of follow-up, deaths of 1,456 participants were identified, including 532 CVD deaths and 246 cancer deaths. After adjusting for potential variables, significant higher risk of all-cause (hazard ratio [HR] 1.18, 95% confidence interval [95% CI] 1.03-1.36, P = 0.01) and CVD (HR 1.30, 95% CI 1.03-1.63, P = 0.02) death was observed for individuals with higher DII scores. Considering the DII score as a continuous variable, the risk of all-cause and CVD death increases 5% (HR 1.05, 95% CI 1.01-1.08) and 8% (HR 1.08, 95% CI 1.02-1.15) with each one-unit increment in DII score, respectively. Subgroup analysis indicated that the association between DII score and all-cause death among participants with hyperuricemia was more significant in males. CONCLUSION:DII score is found to be positively associated with all-cause and CVD death of adults with hyperuricemia. Controlling the intake of proinflammatory food might be a potential strategy to reduce the mortality rate.

Abstract:Objective: We aimed to evaluate whether depression is associated with increased risk of dietary inflammatory index (DII) or energy-adjusted DII (E-DII) and whether the association is partly explained by insulin resistance (IR). Methods: Base on the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2005–2018. Univariate analyses of continuous and categorical variables were performed using t -test, ANOVA, and χ 2 test, respectively. Logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between DII or E-DII and depression in three different models. Mediation analysis was used to assess the potential mediation effects of homeostatic model assessment-IR (HOMA-IR). Results: A total of 70,190 participants were included, and the DII score was higher in the depressed group. DII score was related to all participant characteristics except age ( p < 0.05). After being included in covariates (Model 3), participants in the highest quartile of DII score have increased odds of depression ( OR : 1.82, 95% CI : 1.28–2.58) compared with those in the first quartile of DII score. And, a significant dose–response relationship was found ( p -trend <0.05). No interaction between DII and HOMA-IR was observed in terms of the risk of depression, and HOMA-IR did not find to play a mediating role in the association between DII and depression. Similar results were obtained for the association between E-DII and depression. Conclusion: Our results suggest that a higher pro-inflammatory diet increases the risk of depression in U.S. adults, while there was no evidence of a multiplicative effect of DII or E-DII and HOMA-IR on disease risk, nor of a mediating effect of HOMA-IR.

Abstract:Background: Peptic ulcer disease (PUD) is a gastrointestinal ulcer caused by gastric acid. Aging, smoking and alcohol, stressful life, and family history are directly related to PUD. Oxidative stress and inflammation are the most important mechanisms involved in PUD. The aim of this study is to evaluate the association of dietary inflammatory index (DII) with the risk of PUD. Methods: In this case-control study, data from 100 newly diagnosed peptic ulcer patients and 150 healthy individuals were analyzed. DII was assessed based on dietary intake data collected through a 174-item validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). To calculate DII, 36 nutrients and food components were used after adjusting the energy intake. Adjusted odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) regarding the association between DII and PUD risk were estimated by logistic regression. Results: The mean DII score in patients (0.43±1.88) was significantly higher than the mean DII in healthy individuals (-2.88±2.00) (P=0.005), i.e. patients had received more inflammatory diet. In the crude model of PUD, odds increased significantly in the third and fourth quartiles of DII score compared to the lowest quartile (OR of third quartile vs first quartile: 2.65, 95% CI:1.27-5.52, respectively; and OR of fourth quartile vs first quartile: 2.33, 95% CI:1.12-4.85, respectively; P- trend=0.001). After checking multiple potential confounders, OR in third and fourth quartiles remained high and there was no change in the results. Conclusions: These findings suggest that more pro-inflammatory diets, indicated by higher DII scores, may increase the risk of PUD. Therefore, anti-inflammatory diet may play a protective role against PUD.
The Association between Purine-Rich Food Intake and Hyperuricemia: A Cross-Sectional Study in Chinese Adult Residents

Abstract:Objective: To explore the correlation between purine-rich food intake and hyperuricemia in Chinese adult residents. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on the purine-rich food intake of Chinese adult residents based on the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) in 2009. The subjects were divided into hyperuricemia group and nonhyperuricemia group according to serum uric acid level, and the differences of the sociodemographic information (age, gender, and region), health status (weight status, blood pressure, blood sugar status), living habits (alcohol consumption, smoking status) and food intake (purine-rich food, other food) were compared between the two groups. Logistic regressions investigated the associations between the daily intake of purine-rich food (animal-derived food and legumes) and hyperuricemia. Results: Eventually, 6813 subjects were included in our study, 1111 of them had hyperuricemia. The intake of seafood, legumes, red meat, and poultry all increased the risk of hyperuricemia (p < 0.05), while the intake of purine-rich fungi and purine-rich vegetables did not affect the occurrence of hyperuricemia. Animal-derived food was the main source of purine-rich food consumed by Chinese adult residents (140.67g/day), which had a great impact on hyperuricemia. Finally, after adjusting for gender, age, region, body mass index (BMI), alcohol consumption, hypertension, and refined grains intake, the risk of hyperuricemia increased by 2.40% and 1.10% for each increase of 10 g in animal-derived food intake (OR = 1.024, 95% CI: 1.018-1.030) and legumes intake (OR = 1.011, 95% CI: 1.003-1.019), respectively. Conclusion: The intake of animal-derived food and legumes were positively correlated with the occurrence of hyperuricemia. Controlling the intake of animal-derived food and legumes would be more beneficial to controlling the risk of hyperuricemia.
Associations of dietary inflammatory index with metabolic syndrome and its components: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:Objective: Inflammation has been suggested to play an important role in the development and progression of metabolic syndrome (MetS). Dietary inflammatory index (DII), a measurement of inflammatory potential in diets, was suggested to be associated with MetS. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to establish the associations of DII with MetS and its components based on available observational studies. Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis. Setting: A comprehensive literature search of studies that assessed the associations between DII and MetS was conducted in PubMed, Medline and Embase, using a combination of search terms relating to DII and MetS. Participants: Eighteen articles were eligible, of which fourteen were cross-sectional and four were cohort in design. Results: Results from the random effects meta-analysis showed significantly positive associations of higher DII (top v. bottom quartiles) with MetS (OR: 1 center dot 23 (95 % CI 1 center dot 10, 1 center dot 37)), abdominal obesity (OR: 1 center dot 15 (95 % CI 1 center dot 02, 1 center dot 29)), high blood pressure (OR: 1 center dot 17 (95 % CI 1 center dot 07, 1 center dot 29)), hyperglycaemia (OR: 1 center dot 18 (95 % CI 1 center dot 05, 1 center dot 33)) and hypertriacylglycerolaemia (OR: 1 center dot 17 (95 % CI 1 center dot 07, 1 center dot 28)). The effects of summary OR became stronger when analyses were restricted to cohorts, studies that adjudged for covariates (including BMI, physical activity and total energy intake). Conclusions: Higher DII, representing pro-inflammatory diet, is associated with higher odds of MetS and its components, except for low HDL-cholesterol. The findings prompt dietary interventions for preventing MetS from the aspect of inflammation.
Dietary Inflammatory Index and Its Association with the Prevalence of Coronary Heart Disease among 45,306 US Adults

Abstract:Inflammation plays a pivotal in the occurrence and development of coronary heart disease (CHD). We aim to investigate the association between the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) and CHD in the present study. In this cross-sectional study, adult participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) (1999–2018) were enrolled. The social demographic information, lifestyle factors, blood biochemical measurements, dietary information, and CHD status of all the participants were systematically collected. Multivariable logistic regression was adopted to investigate the association between the risk of CHD and the DII. Besides, restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis was used to explore whether there was a nonlinear association of the DII and CHD. Subgroup analysis stratified by sex, age, race/ethnicity, and BMI was conducted to evaluate the association of the DII and CHD among different populations. A total of 45,306 adults from NHANES (1999–2018) were included. Compared with individuals without CHD, the DIIs of the participants with CHD were significantly elevated. A positive association was observed between the DII and CHD in multivariable logistic analysis after adjusting for age, sex, race/ethnicity, education levels, smoking, drinking, diabetes, hypertension, and body mass index (BMI). Results of RCS analysis suggested a nonlinear relationship between the DII and CHD. In addition, the increment of the DII had a greater impact on female individuals compared with male individuals. The DII is closely associated with the risk of CHD. For better prevention and treatment of CHD, more attention should be paid to controlling dietary inflammation.

Abstract:Hyperuricemia is a metabolic disorder resulting from prolonged dysfunction in purine metabolism, excessive purine intake, or impaired elimination of uric acid. In the nationally representative sample survey conducted in 2015 to 2016, the occurrence rate of hyperuricemia among adult individuals in the United States was recorded at 20%, and this prevalence remained stable over a period of 10 years. [ 1 ] In China, data from 2018 to 2019 indicated an overall prevalence of hyperuricemia among the adult population at 14%, with a significantly higher prevalence among males (24.4%) compared to females (3.6%). Furthermore, there has been an upward trend in the overall prevalence of hyperuricemia within a span of 5 years in China. [ 2 ] Chronic hyperuricemia leads to the deposition of urate crystals in joints and surrounding soft tissues, resulting in recurrent episodes of acute joint and soft tissue inflammation, commonly known as gout. [ 3 ] Recent epidemiological studies have also found that cumulative exposure to elevated blood uric acid levels may be associated with elevated morbidity of non-articular conditions such as stroke, cardiovascular events, chronic kidney disease, liver disease and metabolic syndrome. [ 4–8 ] Furthermore, it has been observed that there exists a positive correlation between hyperuricemia and elevated increased all-cause mortality in the general population, as well as in specific populations such as individuals with diabetes, chronic heart failure, chronic kidney disease, and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). [ 4 , 5 , 9–11 ] Therefore, the threat posed by hyperuricemia to public health is highly intricate and may potentially surpass people conventional estimations. In studies conducted, a positive correlation has been observed between white blood cell count and the prevalence of hyperuricemia in individuals without underlying diseases. Additionally, individuals with hyperuricemia have shown significant elevations in serum levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor (TNF), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and other inflammatory mediators. [ 12 ] In recent years, mechanistic studies have revealed that the NF-κB pathway is a key pathway involved in the induction of inflammation by uric acid crystals. [ 13 ] This implies that inflammation could potentially exert a substantial influence on the pathological process of hyperuricemia.

Abstract:(1) Background: Diet holds a pivotal position in exacerbating or ameliorating chronic inflammation, which has been implicated in the pathogenesis of hyperemesis gravidarum (HG). However, no study has explored the association between dietary inflammatory potential and HG. This study aimed to investigate the potential correlation between following a pro-inflammatory diet and the likelihood of developing HG. (2) Methods: A total of 2033 Chinese pregnant women (mean age: 31.3 ± 3.4 years) were included in this cross-sectional study from April 2021 to September 2022 as part of the China Birth Cohort Study (CBCS). Dietary inflammatory index (DII) scores with 23 food components were constructed through dietary intakes collected via a reliable 108-item semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire. HG was defined as a pregnancy-unique quantification of emesis (PUQE) score ≥13 points, severe nausea and vomiting leading to weight loss ≥5%, or being hospitalized for treatment due to the disease. The relationship between DII and HG was conducted utilizing binary logistic regression and restricted cubic spline regression. (3) Results: Overall, 8.2% (n = 167) of study participants had HG. The DII scores ranged from −4.04 to 3.82. After adjusting for potential confounders, individuals with the highest tertile of DII score had a higher risk of HG (OR = 1.65, 95% CI: 1.04, 2.62, Ptrend = 0.032). Such an association was stronger in those with pre-pregnancy overweight/obesity (Pinteraction = 0.018). (4) Conclusions: A higher DII score, which serves as a marker for a diet promoting inflammation, is correlated with an elevated risk of developing HG. This finding suggests that dietary recommendations for HG should focus on minimizing the DII through incorporating foods abundant in anti-inflammatory components.

The Dietary Inflammatory Index and New-Onset Hypertension in Chinese Adults: a Nationwide Cohort Study.

Abstract:Purpose: The development of hypertension is shown to be triggered by chronic low-grade inflammation. The dietary inflammatory index (DII) is a parameter for assessing the potential of a diet to cause inflammation. The prospective association between the DII and new-onset hypertension in Chinese adults remains unclear. Materials and methods: The nationwide cohort study included 10694 participants from 7 rounds of the China Health and Nutrition Survey. Dietary nutrient intake data were collected by 3-day 24 h dietary recalls and used to calculate the DII. The time-dependent Cox regression model was used to calculate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for studying the risk of new-onset hypertension, and stratified analyses were used to examine factors that may modify the association. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression was used to examine the non-linear relationship between the DII and new-onset hypertension. The relationship between the DII and physical activity was analyzed with the time-dependent Cox regression model. Results: The highest quartile of the DII had a significantly higher risk of new-onset hypertension compared to the lowest quartile (adjusted HR, 1.13; 95% CI, 1.02, 1.24). RCS regression results showed that the risk of new-onset hypertension increased significantly after the DII above 1.09 (P for non-linearity <0.001). The interaction results showed that the DII may play a better role (P < 0.05) in the female, age < 45 years, baseline SBP < 130 mmHg, DBP < 80 mmHg, BMI < 24 kg m-2 and moderate/heavy physical activity level subgroup. Stratified analysis results showed that the baseline SBP, DBP, obesity, and physical activity level modified the association between the DII and hypertension (P for interaction < 0.05). Conclusion: Reducing the inflammatory potential of the diet is an effective strategy to prevent hypertension in Chinese adults.

The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to establish the associations of DII with MetS and its components based on available observational studies.Systematic review and meta-analysis.A comprehensive literature search of studies that assessed the associations between DII and MetS was conducted in PubMed, Medline and Embase, using a combination of search terms relating to DII and MetS.Eighteen articles were eligible, of which fourteen were cross-sectional and four were cohort in design.Results from the random effects meta-analysis showed significantly positive associations of higher DII (top v. bottom quartiles) with MetS (OR: 1·23 (95 % CI 1·10, 1·37)), abdominal obesity (OR: 1·15 (95 % CI 1·02, 1·29)), high blood pressure (OR: 1·17 (95 % CI 1·07, 1·29)), hyperglycaemia (OR: 1·18 (95 % CI 1·05, 1·33)) and hypertriacylglycerolaemia (OR: 1·17 (95 % CI 1·07, 1·28)). The effects of summary OR became stronger when analyses were restricted to cohorts, studies that adjudged for covariates (including BMI, physical activity and total energy intake).Higher DII, representing pro-inflammatory diet, is associated with higher odds of MetS and its components, except for low HDL-cholesterol. The findings prompt dietary interventions for preventing MetS from the aspect of inflammation.
Dietary inflammatory potential and the risk of nonfatal cardiovascular diseases in the China Health and Nutrition Survey

Abstract:BACKGROUND: To our knowledge, no evidence exists to link dietary inflammatory potential to cardiovascular disease (CVD) in China. Furthermore, the precise mechanisms underlying the link between a pro-inflammatory diet and CVD remain incompletely understood.OBJECTIVE: We aimed to investigate the relationship between dietary inflammatory potential and nonfatal CVD in the Chinese population and to explore the mediating role of insulin resistance.METHODS: A total of 4822 adults who participated in the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) were included in this analysis. The dietary inflammatory index (DII) was used to assess dietary inflammatory potential. Cox proportional hazards models and restricted cubic spline were applied to assess the longitudinal associations. The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index was calculated to measure insulin resistance. Mediation analysis using a two-stage regression method for survival data was employed to explore the mediating effects of the TyG index on the association between DII score and nonfatal CVD.RESULTS: During a median follow-up of 18 y, 234 incident cases of nonfatal CVD, including 136 strokes and 114 myocardial infarctions (MIs), were observed. For each standard deviation of the DII score, nonfatal CVD incidence increased by 15% (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.15, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.01-1.31), and stroke incidence increased by 22% (HR = 1.22, 95% CI: 1.03-1.45). DII score displayed a linear association with nonfatal CVD and stroke (P for nonlinearity = 0.250 and 0.238, respectively). No significant association was found between the DII score and MI. Mediation analyses showed that the TyG index mediated 5.90% and 9.35% of the total association between DII score and nonfatal CVD and stroke, respectively.CONCLUSIONS: This study provides evidence that dietary inflammatory potential is positively associated with nonfatal CVD and stroke in Chinese adults, and the association was partly mediated by insulin resistance.

Abstract:Objective: Osteoporosis is an inflammatory disease that causes a large disease burden worldwide. Dietary inflammation index (DII), a comprehensive assessment index that reflects the pro-inflammatory/anti-inflammatory level of diet was related to multiple inflammatory diseases. This study aimed to explore the association between DII and all-cause mortality in patients with osteoporosis or osteopenia. Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, data of patients aged ≥ 45 years diagnosed as osteopenia or osteoporosis and had complete dietary intake information were extracted from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES 2007-2010, 2013-2014, 2017-2018). Dietary intake information was obtained from 24-h dietary recall interviews and was used to calculate the DII score. Weighted univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard models were utilized to explore the association between DII and all-cause mortality in patients with osteoporosis or osteopenia, with hazard ratios (HRs) and 95 % confidence intervals (CIs). Subgroup analyses based on different age, gender and complications were further assessed this association. Results: A total of 5,381 patients were included. Until December 31, 2019, 1,286 all-cause deaths occurred. After adjusting all covariates, high DII was associated with the high odds of all-cause mortality among patients with osteoporosis or osteopenia (HR=1.28, 95 %CI: 1.10-1.48), especially in the male (HR=1.38, 95 %CI: 1.06-1.78), aged < 65 years (HR=1.49, 95 %CI: 1.09-2.02), and without the history the cardiovascular disease (HR=1.30, 95 %CI: 1.03-1.65), diabetes mellitus (HR=1.27, 95 %CI: 1.06-1.52) and chronic kidney disease (HR=1.28, 95 %CI: 1.03-1.58). Conclusion: A pro-inflammatory diet may have an adverse effect on the prognosis of osteoporosis patients.

Abstract:Background and Aims: The dietary inflammatory index (DII) is associated with non-communicable disease. We conducted an umbrella review to systematically evaluate meta-analyses of observational studies on DII and diverse health outcomes. Methods: We comprehensively searched the PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase databases to identify related systematic reviews and meta-analyses of observational studies. Those investigating the association between DII and a wide range of health outcomes in humans were eligible for inclusion. For each meta-analysis, we estimated the summary effect size by using fixed and random effects models, the 95% confidence interval, and the 95% prediction interval. We assessed heterogeneity, evidence of small-study effects, and excess significance bias. Results: The umbrella review identified 35 meta-analyses assessing associations between DII and various health outcomes: cancer (n = 24), mortality (n = 4), metabolic (n = 4), and other (n = 3). The methodological quality was high or moderate. Of the 35 meta-analyses, we observed highly suggestive evidence for harmful associations between digestive tract cancer, colorectal cancer, overall cancer, pharyngeal cancer, UADT cancer, and CVD mortality. Moreover, 11 harmful associations showed suggestive evidence: hormone-dependent cancer, rectal cancer, colon cancer, breast and prostate cancer, gynecological cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, all-cause mortality, and depression. Conclusion: DII is likely to be associated with harmful effects in multiple health outcomes. Robust randomized controlled trials are warranted to understand whether the observed results are causal. Abstract:<h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Objective</h3><p>: Information regarding the possible relationship between diet-related inflammation and the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is limited. We aimed to investigate the association between the inflammatory potential of the diet, measured by the dietary inflammatory index (DII), and GDM risk in Chinese pregnant women.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Methods</h3><p>: We included 2639 eligible women from the Tongji Maternal and Child Health Cohort (TMCHC). Dietary intake was assessed by a validated semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) and used to calculate the DII score. The DII was then validated using C-reactive protein (CRP) measurements in a subsample of 133 pregnant women. The diagnosis of GDM were collected from medical records based on the results of a 75 g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) at 24-28 weeks gestation. Multivariable-adjusted logistic regression models were performed to estimate the odds ratios (ORs) for GDM risk by DII score, modeled continuously and in tertiles.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Results</h3><p>: Of the 2639 participants, 13.1% were diagnosed with GDM. DII score ranged from -4.45 to 3.15 and positively associated with CRP (adjusted β <sub>DIItertile3vs1</sub>: 1.28, 95% CI: 0.16, 2.40; P trend=0.023). A significant and positive association was observed between DII score and GDM risk (adjusted OR: 1.43; 95% CI: 1.05, 1.95; P <sub>trend</sub> =0.022) comparing the highest versus lowest tertiles. The stratified analysis showed that this association was stronger among overweight or obese pregnant women before pregnancy (adjusted OR: 2.20; 95% CI: 1.03, 4.69).</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Conclusions</h3><p>: Those findings suggest that a higher DII score, corresponding to a more pro-inflammatory diet, is associated with a higher risk of GDM, particularly among overweight or obese pregnant women before pregnancy.</p>

Abstract:Abstract Objective: We evaluate the association between the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) and kidney stones. Design: We performed a cross-sectional analysis using data from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Dietary intake information was assessed using first 24-h dietary recall interviews, and the Kidney Conditions were presented by a questionnaire. The primary outcome was to investigate the association between DII and incidence of kidney stones, and the secondary outcome was to assess the association between DII and nephrolithiasis recurrence. Setting: The NHANES, 2007–2016. Participants: The study included 25 984 NHANES participants, whose data on DII and kidney stones were available, of whom 2439 reported a history of kidney stones. Results: For the primary outcome, after fully multivariate adjustment, DII score is positively associated with the risk of kidney stones (OR = 1·07; 95 % CI 1·04, 1·10). Then, compared Q4 with Q1, a significant 38 % increased likelihood of nephrolithiasis was observed. (OR = 1·38; 95 % CI 1·19, 1·60). For the secondary outcome, the multivariate regression analysis showed that DII score is positively correlated with nephrolithiasis recurrence (OR = 1·07; 95 % CI 1·00, 1·15). The results noted that higher DII scores (Q3 and Q4) are positively associated with a significant 48 % and 61 % increased risk of nephrolithiasis recurrence compared with the reference after fully multivariate adjustment (OR = 1·48; 95 % CI 1·07, 2·05; OR = 1·61; 95 % CI 1·12, 2·31). Conclusions: Our findings revealed that increased intake of pro-inflammatory diet, as a higher DII score, is correlated with increased odds of kidney stones incidence and recurrence.

Abstract:Background and Aims Previous studies suggested that dietary inflammatory index (DII) was associated with a variety of adverse health conditions. However, less is known about the role of DII in prediabetes and insulin resistance (IR). Therefore, this study aimed to investigate whether DII is associated with prediabetes and IR in American adults. Method and Results DII scores were calculated using the average of two 24-hour dietary recalls. Linear regression models were performed to evaluate the associations of DII with markers of Type 2 diabetes (T2D) risk, and the associations of DII with prediabetes and IR were estimated using logistic regression model. The diet of the participants showed an anti-inflammatory potential, with a mean DII score of −0.14 (range: −5.83 to +5.32). After controlling for multiple potential confounders, DII scores were positively associated with fasting plasma glucose (FPG) ( β : 0.009; 95%CI: 0.005 to 0.012), fasting serum insulin (FSI) ( β : 0.083; 95%CI: 0.067 to 0.099) and homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) ( β : 0.092; 95%CI: 0.075 to 0.109). Participants in the highest tertile of DII score have increased odds of prediabetes (OR: 1.40; 95%CI: 1.17 to 1.69; P for trend <0.001) and IR (OR: 1.79; 95%CI: 1.49 to 2.14; P for trend <0.001) compared with those in the first tertile of DII score. Conclusions This study indicates that DII was positively associated with FPG, FSI, and HOMA-IR, and a more pro-inflammatory diet was related to increased odds of insulin resistant and prediabetes.
