Abstract:In order to improve the dispersion of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and enhance the performance of MoS2, two alginate-derived biomass carbon-MoS2 (BC-MoS2) composites: CMB/CMS, were prepared by introducing BC during the synthesis of MoS2 by hydrothermal. The effects of different gels, times and temperatures of the synthesized BC-MoS2 were investigated, and the adsorption capacity for methylene blue (MB), basic fuchsin (BF) and copper ions (Cu2+) was tested. The results indicated that the vertical growth of MoS2 on the BC surface could be realized when using xero-gel, while the BC and MoS2 were mixed uniformly when using wet-gel. Compared with MoS2, the hydrophilicity and water dispersibility of BC-MoS2 were greatly improved, and BC-MoS2 had better adsorption capacity for MB/BF/Cu2+ (99.61/86.83/60 mg/g). The adsorption mechanism exhibits that the adsorption force of BC-MoS2 on MB/BF is mainly based on the electrostatic force, and the adsorption on Cu2+ comes from the electrostatic force and the Lewis soft-soft interaction. This study dramatically enriches the application of transition metal chalcogenides and provides a meaningful reference for wastewater treatment.

Abstract:Developing multifunctional materials for water treatment remains a significant challenge. Bacterial cellulose (BC) holds immense potential as an adsorbent with high pollutant-binding capacity, hydrophilicity, and biosafety. In this study, N-acetylglucosamine was used as a carbon source to ferment BC, incorporating amide bonds in situ. Bentonite, renowned for its adsorption properties, was added to the culture medium, resulting in BC-bentonite composite membranes via a one-step fermentation process. Polyethyleneimine (PEI) was crosslinked with amide bonds on the membrane via glutaraldehyde through Schiff base reactions to enhance the performance of the composite membrane. The obtained membrane exhibited increased hydrophilicity, enhanced active adsorption sites, and enlarged specific surface area. It not only physically adsorbed contaminants through its unique structure but also effectively captured dye molecules (Congo red, Methylene blue, Malachite green) via electrostatic interactions. Additionally, it formed stable complexes with metal ions (Cd2+, Pb2+, Cu2+) through coordination and effectively adsorbed their mixtures. Moreover, the composite membrane demonstrated the broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, effectively inhibiting the growth of tested bacteria. This study introduces an innovative method for fabricating composite membranes as adsorbents for complex water pollutants, showing significant potential for long-term wastewater treatment of organic dyes, heavy metal ions, and pathogens.

Abstract:Securing quality water is a major challenge for modern society. Membrane water treatment is crucial for drinking water, desalination, and wastewater reuse. Bi2MoO6 nanoparticles enable the production of Bi2MoO6‐incorporated cellulose acetate membranes, which degrade Malachite Green by 78% and Rose Bengal by 84% under UV light. Effective Bi2MoO6 loading enhances photocatalytic efficiency, advancing environmental remediation. A major challenge for modern society is securing quality water for various uses. Membrane water treatment will be crucial for drinking water, desalination, and wastewater reuse. The development of bismuth molybdate (Bi2MoO6) nanoparticles has enabled the production of novel Bi2MoO6‐incorporated cellulose acetate (CA) membrane nanocomposite. The synthesized Bi2MoO6/CA nanocomposites are thoroughly examined for their structural, morphological, and photocatalytic characteristics using X‐ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis. The photocatalytic properties are determined by evaluating the degradation of Malachite Green (MG) and Rose Bengal (RB) by the nanocomposite membranes under the illumination of a UV light simulator. Notably, the Bi2MoO6/CA nanocomposite membrane displays exceptional and sustained photocatalytic efficiency (78%) and (84%) in MG and RB dye degradation, respectively. Moreover, the effective loading of the Bi2MoO6 onto the CA membrane enhances electron and hole adsorption while facilitating carrier movement. Furthermore, the stability exhibited by the Bi2MoO6/CA nanocomposite photocatalysts remains impressive even after multiple cycles, demonstrating their durability. This research introduces a cutting‐edge semiconductor‐based hybrid nanocomposite material that proves highly efficient in the photocatalytic degradation of organic dyes, showcasing promising advancements in environmental remediation strategies.

Abstract:Water pollution remains a serious problem for aquatic organism and human beings. Developing an efficient material which can simultaneously remove and convert pollutants into low or no harmful compounds is an essential issue. Targeting at this goal, a multifunctional and amphoteric wastewater treatment material of Co-MOF and functionalized cellulose-based composite (CMC/SA/PEI/ZIF-67) was designed and prepared. Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and sodium alginate (SA) were selected as support to construct an interpenetrating network structure and made it crosslinked with polyethyleneimine (PEI) for further in situ growth of ZIF-67 with good dispersion. The material was characterized using an appropriate set of spectroscopic and analytical techniques. When applied in the adsorption of heavy metal oxyanions with no adjustment of pH, the adsorbent could completely decontaminate Cr(VI) at both low and high initial concentrations with good reduction rates. The adsorbent maintained good reusability after five cycles. Meanwhile, the cobalt species of CMC/SA/PEI/ZIF-67 can activate peroxymonosulfate to generate high oxidizing substances (such as SO 4 ˉ · and ·OH ˉ radicals) to degrade cationic rhodamine B dye within 120 min, thus indicating the amphoteric and catalytic nature of our CMC/SA/PEI/ZIF-67 adsorbent. The mechanism of the adsorption and catalytic process was also discussed based with the assistance of different characterization analysis.

Abstract:Water purification has always being an imperative but challenging issue of our times. Here, we used an organic-inorganic material, i.e. bacterial cellulose (BC) and Ca-montmorillonite (Ca-MMT) composites to treat complex wastewater. The surface and inside of the BC/Ca-MMT was a microporous structure capable of providing abundant adsorption sites. We demonstrated the BC/Ca-MMT has superior removal efficiency towards methylene blue (MB) and tetracycline (TC). Typically, the sample showed significant uptake ability towards MB and TC with uptake characteristics of pseudo-second-order model and Langmuir isotherm model. More interestingly, in MB-TC binary system, the removal of the two contaminative species was hardly affected by other coexisting components. Meanwhile, the sample was ease of regeneration and kept stable reusability through consecutive four recycles. With more virtues, such as low cost and wide range of resources of the two raw materials, the BC/Ca-MMT is expected to be a promising versatile water purifier in sewage treatment.

Abstract:Superhydrophilic/underwater superoleophobic (SUS) membrane technology has attracted extensive attention for water purification. However, the fabrication of multifunctional membranes to satisfy the complex wastewater treatment is still a big challenge. In this work, bacterial cellulose (BC) based multifunctional SUS membranes were designed for water purification. Membranes were prepared by blending BC nanofibers with TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs), and further modified by the in situ growth of ZnO-NPs. The composite membranes showed oil/water (o/w) separation under a small driving pressure (0.2-0.3 bar) with a flux rate of 8232.81 ± 212 L m-2 h-1 and with a high separation efficiency (>99.9%). Membranes could also separate oil-in-water emulsion with a separation flux of 1498 ± 74 L m-2 h-1 and with high efficiency (99.25%). Moreover, the composite membrane exhibited photocatalytic activity under visible light with a high efficiency (>92%). The composite membranes were also investigated for antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains. This work may inspire the fabrication of next-generation multifunctional membranes for wastewater treatment, particularly oily wastewater, dyes and microbial contaminated water.

In-situ growth of zinc sulfide on the surface of alginate-based biomass carbon: A new material for removing methylene blue/basic fuchsin and copper ions

Abstract:This work aims to prepare a composite adsorbent with a fixed shape to improve the performance of carbon materials and to solve the problem of adsorbent in powder form which is difficult to recycle after use. The BC-ZnS composite system was successfully prepared by hydrothermal method based on the preparation of biomass carbon (BC) using alginate (Alg), while the ZnS component was grown in-situ on the surface of BC. The effects of Alg, Zn source, hydrothermal temperature and time on the synthesis of BC-ZnS were explored, the results indicated that ZnS was successfully grown in-situ on the BC surface, while the BC maintained its original morphology. BC-ZnS showed excellent adsorption capacity for methylene blue (MB), basic fuchsin (BF), and copper ions (Cu2+), reaching 301.50 mg/g for MB and exhibiting good cyclic stability. The adsorption of MB/BF/Cu2+ by BC-ZnS was characterized by the presence of multiple forces, where the BC component mainly depended on the electrostatic force of Alg residue, while the ZnS involves electrostatic forces, ion exchange and Lewis acid/base soft-soft interactions. The adsorption process conforms to pseudo-first-kinetics and is a spontaneous entropy-increasing process. BC-ZnS can be a candidate for reusable wastewater treatment and has excellent potential for application.

Abstract:The photocatalytic process is an energy-saving and high-efficiency wastewater treatment technology. In this work, a simple in-situ hydrothermal method was used to prepare a photocatalytic material based on waste loofah with high efficiency, reusability and excellent heterostructure to improve the photodegradation efficiency. The prepared MoS2@MIL-101(Fe)@Carboxylated loofah composite material was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), UV–Vis diffuse reflection spectroscopy (UV–vis DRS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and transient photocurrent (TPC). The composite material demonstrated high adsorption capacity for hydrochloride (TC) and methylene blue (MB) and photocatalytic capacity under visible-light irradiation at room temperature which were attributed to the porous structure, strong visible-light absorption, and low recombination velocity of electron–hole pairs due to the heterojunctions. The loofah sponge used as a substrate can provide a means for powder catalyst recovery and waste cellulose recycling. Meanwhile, the photocatalyst proved excellent stability in the MB degradation experiment and could be reused for four cycles.

Synergy of Adsorption-Photocatalysis and Enriched Surface Oxygen Vacancies over Lignin-Biochar/bi2moo6 Nanocomposites for Organic Pollutant Removal and Bamboo ECF Bleaching Effluent Treatment

Abstract:LC/Bi2MoO6 composites were successfully fabricated and applied to the effective degradation of methylene blue (MB) under visible light illumination. The composition, morphology and photoelectrochemical properties of prepared samples were characterized by various techniques. EPR analysis reveals that the density of surface oxygen vacancies was enhanced after lignin-biochar addition. Under optimal conditions, the degradation effi-ciency of MB over LC/Bi2MoO6 was 95.34 % at 1 h under visible light irradiation, and the reaction rate constant (k) was 18.96 folds higher than that of pristine Bi2MoO6. The enhanced photocatalytic performance of LC/ Bi2MoO6 was due to the synergistic effect between adsorption-photocatalysis and enriched surface oxygen va-cancies, which greatly promotes the separation of photogenerated charge carriers. Moreover, the MB degradation removal with LC/Bi2MoO6 decreased by 3.84 % at 1 h under visible light irradiation after four cycles, illustrating excellent stability and reusability in the photocatalytic recycling process. Notably, the bandgap of Bi2MoO6 decreased from 2.66 eV to 2.26 eV with the addition of lignin-biochar. Radical capture experiment and ESR characterization demonstrate that center dot OH radicals were the main active radical in the photocatalytic process, which increases the radical concentration during the combination of lignin-biochar. Furthermore, the LC/Bi2MoO6 composites were also applied to the degradation of bamboo ECF bleaching effluent, with a higher CODCr and AOX removal of 75.72 % and 69.64 %, respectively. Herein, this work provides a novel insight for constructing economic and efficient photocatalysts for wastewater remediation and biomass utilization.
Nisin electroadsorption-enabled multifunctional bacterial cellulose membranes for highly efficient removal of organic and microbial pollutants in water

Abstract:Membranes fabricated from bacteria-produced cellulose have many practical and technological advantages over other means of cellulose fiber production, however, their functionality for targeted applications is limited and requires complex, multi-stage processing, while the mechanisms underpinned the optimum improvements remain largely unknown. Focusing on one of the highest-demand applications in wastewater treatment, here we resolve the three persistent issues in bacterial cellulose membranes (BCMs), namely poor fibrillar network quality, insufficient functionality and unsatisfactory performance, and discover the counterintuitive, yet most effective mechanism of imparting the multifunctional properties. First, innovative application of the Hestrin-Shramm medium instead of the CM0986 medium stimulated Taonella mepensis to produce BCMs with higher yields, more uniform fibrils and developed fibrillar networks, higher crystallinity indexes, better mechanical and thermal properties. Second, a novel but facile electroadsorption method was developed to enhance BCM functionality via bonding a natural bactericidal peptide-Nisin to the deliberately activated terminals on the BCM surface, achieving great antibacterial activity, good durability, well-preserved nanoporous network, outstanding water retention and low toxicity. Third, due to the synergetic effects of surface adsorption, ionic bonding, physical retention and active microbial killing, the Nisin-decorated BCMs enabled outstanding organic dye removal and excellent disinfection performance, among the best in the available reports. Collectively, this study demonstrates that electroadsorption is a promising and potentially generic strategy to fabricate Nisin-decorated and functionalized BCMs for next-generation membrane filters toward water purification.
Beyond affect and cognition: Identification of the informational bases of food attitudes

Abstract:Two studies were conducted to identify the informational bases of food attitudes. Study 1 was an exploratory study in which participants indicated the importance of food characteristics and emotional reactions for determining their attitudes toward a variety of foods. On the basis of a series of exploratory factor analyses, 5 informational bases of food attitudes were identified: positive affect, negative affect, specific sensory qualities, abstract cognitive qualities, and general sensory qualities. A second confirmatory study corroborated the appropriateness of this 5-factor structure. Furthermore, the food-specific attitude structure model was found to have better fit than a more traditional attitude structure model. The implications of these findings for attitude theory, understanding eating behavior, and changing food selection are discussed.

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) derived materials have distinctive structures and conspicuous catalytic performance, making them extensively employed as catalysts in several fields. Herein, MnO/carbon nanofiber has been successfully generated by pyrolyzing Mn-MOF/bacterial cellulose (BC) composite, in which BC serves as a structural support for the growth of Mn-MOF. The characterizations of field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy demonstrate the effective synthesis of MOFs-derived MnO that maintains its original octahedral structure. MnO/carbon nanofiber is applied as a catalyst to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for the degradation of tetracycline (TC), exhibiting remarkable catalytic activity with 90.59% TC decomposition generated after 30 min. Meanwhile, the removal efficiency for TC remains 83.38% after five cycles. Besides, the quenching experiments confirm not only synergistic effect of radical and non-radical species, but also the vital role of singlet oxygen (1O2) in MnO/CBC-PMS system. This work constructs a new pathway in the preparation of high-performance MOFs-derived metal oxides/carbon materials, which have the potential to enhance the activity in activating peroxymonosulfate for effluent disposal.
A one-stone-two-birds strategy for cellulose dissolution, regeneration, and functionalization as a photocatalytic composite membrane for wastewater purification

Abstract:Photocatalytic membranes integrate membrane separation and photocatalysis to deliver an efficient solution for water purification, while the top priority is to exploit simple, efficient, renewable, and low-cost photocatalytic membrane materials. We herein propose a facile one-stone-two-birds strategy to construct a multifunctional regenerated cellulose composite membrane decorated by Prussian blue analogue (ZnPBA) microspheres for wastewater purification. The hypotheses are that: 1) ZnCl2 not only serves as a cellulose solvent for tuning cellulose dissolution and regeneration, but also functions as a precursor for in-situ growth of spherical-like ZnPBA; 2) More homogeneous reactions including coordination and hydrogen bonding among Zn2+, [Fe(CN)6]3- and cellulose chains contribute to a rapid and uniform anchoring of ZnPBA microspheres on the regenerated cellulose fibrils (RCFs). Consequently, the resultant ZnPBA/RCM features a high loading of ZnPBA (65.3 wt%) and exhibits excellent treatment efficiency and reusability in terms of photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline (TC) (90.3 % removal efficiency and 54.3 % of mineralization), oil-water separation efficiency (>97.8 % for varying oils) and antibacterial performance (99.4 % for E. coli and 99.2 % for S. aureus). This work paves a simple and useful way for exploiting cellulose-based functional materials for efficient wastewater purification.
Study on synergistic mechanism of molybdenum disulfide/sodium carboxymethyl cellulose composite nanofiber mats for photothermal/photodynamic antibacterial treatment

Abstract:Innovative antibacterial therapies using nanomaterials, such as photothermal (PTT) and photodynamic (PDT) treatments, have been developed for treating wound infections. However, creating secure wound dressings with these therapies faces challenges. The primary focus of this study is to prepare an antibacterial nanofiber dressing that effectively incorporates stable loads of functional nanoparticles and demonstrates an efficient synergistic effect between PTT and PDT. Herein, a composite nanofiber mat was fabricated, integrating spherical molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanoparticles. MoS2 was deposited onto polylactic acid (PLA) nanofiber mats using vacuum filtration, which was further stabilized by sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) adhesion and glutaraldehyde (GA) cross-linking. The composite nanofibers demonstrated synergistic antibacterial effects under NIR light irradiation, and the underlying mechanism was explored. They induce bacterial membrane permeability, protein leakage, and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) elevation, ultimately leading to >95 % antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli), which is higher than that of single thermotherapy (almost no antibacterial activity) or ROS therapy (about 80 %). In addition, the composite nanofiber mats exhibited promotion effects on infected wound healing in vivo. This study demonstrates the great prospects of composite nanofiber dressings in clinical treatment of bacterial-infected wounds.

Abstract:In this study, we describe the use of biomass bacterial cellulose derived material (DCBC) with abundant surface carbonyl groups through the selective oxidation of C2-C3 in BC by NaIO4, as efficient metal-free catalyst for the activation of PMS. The DCBC/PMS system exhibits excellent degradation performance for target pollutant sulfamethoxazole (SMX) within 20 min. Quenching experiments and EPR results demonstrate that the SMX degradation via both nonradical (O-1(2)) and radical (SO4 center dot-/center dot OH) pathways with the nonradical pathway playing the major role. This mechanism was later confirmed by the product analysis of the SMX degradation. The catalytic performance and manufacturing cost of the DCBC catalyst was then systematically evaluated in comparison with other carbon materials including carbon nanotubes and reduced graphene oxide. Our study implies a strong potential of the DCBC material as ideal metal-free catalyst, with many virtues of handy convenience, easy regeneration, satisfactory stability, and low cost, in PMS-AOPs in real water treatment.

Abstract:Nanostructured materials offer a significant role in wastewater treatment with diminished capital and operational expense, low dose, and pollutant selectivity. Specifically, the nanocomposites of cellulose with inorganic nanoparticles (NPs) have drawn a prodigious interest because of the extraordinary cellulose properties, high specific surface area, and pollutant selectivity of NPs. Integrating inorganic NPs with cellulose biopolymers for wastewater treatment is a promising advantage for inorganic NPs, such as colloidal stability, agglomeration prevention, and easy isolation of magnetic material after use. This article presents a comprehensive overview of water treatment approaches following wastewater remediation by green and environmentally friendly cellulose/inorganic nanoparticles-based bio-nanocomposites. The functionalization of cellulose, functionalization mechanism, and engineered hybrid materials were thoroughly discussed. Moreover, we also highlighted the purification of wastewater through the composites of cellulose/inorganic nanoparticles via adsorption, photocatalytic and antibacterial approach.

Abstract:The profound contamination of reservoirs triggered by industrial dyes and the growing phenomenon of antibiotic-resistant bacteria present substantial risks to both the environment and human health. Conventional approaches to water treatment and microbiological disinfection can frequently become ineffective, expensive, and detrimental to the environment, and this issue underscores the need for novel materials that possess refined photocatalytic and antibacterial characteristics that thrive efficiently in a setting of visible light. An innovative nanostructured nanocomposite, Mo-CeO 2 @C, was synthesized using a green chemistry method coupled with Mo-CeO 2 nanoparticles and pristine CeO 2 . The impact of Ce, Mo, and carbon-based nanocomposites has been validated by leveraging XRD, FTIR, UV–vis spectra, and FE-SEM/EDX. The sunlight-mediated photodegradation performance of carbon-based nanocomposite exhibited a superior photodegradation efficiency of 99.5 %, higher than others. The photocatalytic activity of M.B. dye concentration, catalyst dosage, scavenger test, and recyclability were also conducted, which confirm the optimal catalyst loading of 20 mg, dye concentration 40 ppm, and pH 8 with reusability up to six th cycles. The carbon-coated doped nanocomposite displays superior antibacterial efficacy against gram-positive S. aureus , gram-negative E. coli , and P. vulgaris bacteria in comparison to CeO 2 and Mo-doped CeO 2 . This may be attributed to the combined effects of the generation of reactive oxygen species (R.O.S.) and the intrinsic characteristics of the dopant and carbon matrix. The results of our research emphasize the potential of carbon-based nanoparticles as versatile agents in the realms of environmental rehabilitation and biomedical research. These nanoparticles provide a method to achieve more efficient and resilient solutions in these areas.

Abstract:Bacteria are widespread in the environment, and antibiotics are usually used in large doses to kill the bacteria, which consequently leads to the appearance of drug-resistance bacteria. As a result, the development of new and non-antibiotic antibacterial material is in urgent need. Herein, the molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanosheet, which shows photocatalytic and photothermal properties, was modified with N-doping carbon quantum dots (CQDs). The CQDs could transport the photogenerated electrons produced by MoS2 nanosheets, preventing the recombination of electrons and holes, resulting in a much higher photocatalytic property. Because of the enhanced photocatalytic properties, these MoS2/CQDs hybrids could kill bacteria highly effectively, with antibacterial ratios of 99.38 and 99.99% against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, respectively. Meanwhile, the hybrids exhibit good biocompatibility, which can prevent the potential side effect to both human and environment. Furthermore, through a simple spin-coating method, the MoS2/CQDs hybrids could also form a coating on the basement, e.g., Ti, and act as an antibacterial coating to prevent bacterial infection.
Programable sewage-cleaning technology: Regenerating chitosan biofilms with anti-bacterial capacity via self-purification of water pollutants

Abstract:In this paper, a novel programable sewage-cleaning technology for the regeneration of antibacterial nanocomposites via the removal of wastewater pollutants is presented. Montmorillonite (MMT) was encapsulated in poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-enhanced chitosan (CTS) hydrogels to form MMT-loaded nanocomposite biofilms (PCM). The PCM nanocomposite biofilms exhibited increased breaking strength and elongation at break, by factors of approximately 1.38 and 1.40, respectively, compared with those of the pure PVA/CTS biofilms. The maximum adsorption capacity of the PCM nanocomposite biofilms toward tetracycline and Ag(I) is 275.0 and 567.0 mg/g, respectively. The adsorbed nanocomposite biofilms exhibited excellent antibacterial properties against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Meanwhile, the nanocomposite also showed an effective adsorption capacity toward other toxic components, where the highest adsorption capacity is 2748.0 mg/g (for methyl blue). The simulation results indicated that the adsorption behaviors of the malachite green, neutral red, methyl blue, tetracycline, Cu(II), Zn(II), and Ag(I) by the PCM nanocomposite biofilms followed pseudo-second-order kinetic and Freundlich isotherm models. Furthermore, the PCM nanocomposite biofilms are stable in PBS solution but degradable in lysozyme-containing PBS solution, suggesting their potential application in the wastewater treatment as well as antibacterial fields.
Valorization of sugarcane bagasse with in situ grown MoS2 for continuous pollutant remediation and microbial decontamination

Abstract:In this study, sugarcane bagasse (SB) was strategically subjected to a delignification process followed by the in situ growth of multi-layered molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanosheets with hexagonal phase (2H-phase) crystal structure via hydrothermal treatment. The MoS2 nanosheets underwent self-assembly to form nanoflower-like structures in the aligned cellulose inter-channels of delignified sugarcane bagasse (DSB), the mechanism of which was understood through FTIR and XPS spectroscopic studies. DSB, due to its porous morphology and abundant hydroxyl groups, shows remediation capabilities of methylene blue (MB) dye through physio-sorption but shows a low adsorption capacity of 80.21 mg/g. To improve the removal capacity, DSB after in situ growth of MoS2 (DSB-MoS2) shows enhanced dye degradation to 114.3 mg/g (in the dark) which further improved to 158.74 mg/g during photodegradation, due to catalytically active MoS2. Interestingly, DSB-MoS2 was capable of continuous dye degradation with recyclability for three cycles, reaching an efficiency of > 83%, along with a strong antibacterial response against Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus) and Gram-negative Escherichia coli (E. coli). The present study introduces a unique strategy for the up-conversion of agricultural biomass into value-added bio-adsorbents, which can effectively and economically address the remediation of dyes with simultaneous microbial decontamination from polluted wastewater streams.
