Abstract:This study develops an efficient CO2 reduction photocatalyst by modifying isolated Mn sites on the TiO2 surface. The Mn site is proven to be a unified site for the adsorption and activation of CO2 molecules both experimentally and theoretically. Furthermore, this work explicitly reveals the influence of Mn species on the energy transfer process in photocatalytic CO2 reduction. Solar‐driven reduction of CO2 to value‐added products represents a sustainable strategy for mitigating the greenhouse effect and addressing the related green‐energy crisis. Herein, it is demonstrated that modifying the surface coordination sphere can significantly enhance the reaction kinetics and overall efficiency of CO2 reduction. More specifically, the decoration of isolated Mn atoms over the multi‐edged TiO2 nano‐pompons (Mn/TONP) upshifts the d‐band center that allows favorable CO2 adsorption. Ultrafast spectroscopy demonstrates the greatly accelerated charge transfer between photoexcited multi‐edged TONP and the newly implanted Mn reactive centers, supplying long‐lifetime electrons to reduce absorbed CO2 molecules. By integrating adsorption and activation functions into the newly decorated Mn sites, the developed photocatalyst demonstrate impressive capacity for CO2 reduction (80.51 mmol g−1 h−1). The surface modulation strategy at the atomic level not only opens new avenues for regulating the reaction kinetics toward photocatalytic CO2 reduction, but also paves the way for the rational design of highly efficient and selective photocatalysts for clean energy conversion.

Filling metal–organic framework mesopores with TiO2 for CO2 photoreduction

Abstract:Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs)1–3 are known for their specific interactions with gas molecules4,5; combined with their rich and ordered porosity, this makes them promising candidates for the photocatalytic conversion of gas molecules to useful products6. Attempts to use MOFs or MOF-based composites for CO2 photoreduction6–13, however, usually result in far lower CO2 conversion efficiency compared to state-of-the-art solid-state or molecular catalysts14–18, even when facilitated by sacrificial reagents. Here, we create 'molecular compartments' inside a MOF by growing TiO2 inside different pores of MIL-101 and its derivatives (Fig. 1). This compartmentalization allows for synergy between the light-absorbing/electron-generating TiO2 units and the catalytic metal clusters in the MOFs, and therefore facilitates photocatalytic CO2 reduction, concurrent with production of O2. An apparent quantum efficiency for CO2 photoreduction of 11.3% at 350 nm, is observed in a composite, 42%-TiO2-in-Cr-MIL-101-NO2. TiO2 units in one type of compartment in this construct are estimated to be 44 times more active than those in the other type, underlining the role of precise positioning of TiO2 in this system.

Abstract:Photocatalytic conversion of CO into solar fuels has gained increasing attention due to its great potential for alleviating the energy and environmental crisis at the same time. The low-cost TiO with suitable band structure and high resistibility to light corrosion has proven to be very promising for photoreduction of CO using water as the source of electrons and protons. However, the narrow spectral response range (ultraviolet region only) as well as the rapid recombination of photo-induced electron-hole pairs within pristine TiO results in the low utilization of solar energy and limited photocatalytic efficiency. Besides, its low selectivity toward photoreduction products of CO should also be improved. Combination of TiO with other photoelectric active materials, such as metal oxide/sulfide semiconductors, metal nanoparticles and carbon-based nanostructures, for the construction of well-defined heterostructures can enhance the quantum efficiency significantly by promoting visible light adsorption, facilitating charge transfer and suppressing the recombination of charge carriers, resulting in the enhanced photocatalytic performance of the composite photocatalytic system. In addition, the adsorption and activation of CO on these heterojunctions are also promoted, therefore enhancing the turnover frequency (TOF) of CO molecules, so as to the improved selectivity of photoreduction products. This review focus on the recent advances of photocatalytic CO reduction via TiO-based heterojunctions with water oxidation. The rational design, fabrication, photocatalytic performance and CO photoreduction mechanisms of typical TiO-based heterojunctions, including semiconductor-semiconductor (S-S), semiconductor-metal (S-M), semiconductor-carbon group (S-C) and multicomponent heterojunction are reviewed and discussed. Moreover, the TiO-based phase heterojunction and facet heterojunction are also summarized and analyzed. In the end, the current challenges and future prospects of the TiO-based heterostructures for photoreduction of CO with high efficiency, even for practical application are discussed.
Novel COF@Ti-MOF hybrid photocatalysts enabling enhanced photocatalytic CO2 reduction in a gas-solid system without additives

Abstract:With the increasing global energy demand and environmental problems, the photoreduction of CO2 into valuable chemical materials is considered to be an ideal way to recycle carbon resources. Naturally, the design and synthesis of efficient photocatalysts for the photocatalytic reduction of CO2 still face great challenges. In this work, a series of stable hybrid photocatalysts TpPa@IEF have been born by integrating the two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks TpPa-1 with Ti-based metal-organic framework IEF-11. The photocatalytic performance of TpPa@IEF has been evaluated in a gas-solid reaction mode under visible light as well as no sacrificial agents and photosensitizers. The experimental results show that TpPa@IEF exhibit the excellent photocatalytic activity in pure and dilute CO2 (10%) environments. The introduction of IEF-11 has resulted in to a significant improvement in photocatalytic performance, TpPa@IEF achieve a great CO generation rate of 78.87 μmol·g-1·h-1 in pure CO2, notably, and obtain another excellent CO generation rate of 116.47 μmol·g-1·h-1 in dilute CO2 (10%), which is 3.63 and 8.46 times higher than that of TpPa-1, respectively. The excellent photocatalytic performance of TpPa@IEF hybrids stems from the high charge separation efficiency and CO2 capture ability, as well as the abundant catalytic active sites. The preparation of TpPa@IEF hybrid materials provides a novelty perspective for the design and synthesis of efficient photocatalysts.

Atomic Interface Engineering of Single‐Atom Pt/TiO2‐Ti3C2 for Boosting Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction

Abstract:Single‐atom Pt anchored on 3D TiO2‐Ti3C2 is synthesized through an in situ transformation and photoreduction method. Benefiting from the synergistic effect of the atomic interface engineering of single‐atom Pt and interfacial TiOTi, the optimized photocatalyst exhibits excellent CO2‐to‐CO conversion activity of 20.5 μmol g–1 h–1 with a selectivity of 96%, which is five times that of commercial TiO2 (P25). Solar‐driven CO2 conversion into valuable fuels is a promising strategy to alleviate the energy and environmental issues. However, inefficient charge separation and transfer greatly limits the photocatalytic CO2 reduction efficiency. Herein, single‐atom Pt anchored on 3D hierarchical TiO2‐Ti3C2 with atomic‐scale interface engineering is successfully synthesized through an in situ transformation and photoreduction method. The in situ growth of TiO2 on Ti3C2 nanosheets can not only provide interfacial driving force for the charge transport, but also create an atomic‐level charge transfer channel for directional electron migration. Moreover, the single‐atom Pt anchored on TiO2 or Ti3C2 can effectively capture the photogenerated electrons through the atomic interfacial PtO bond with shortened charge migration distance, and simultaneously serve as active sites for CO2 adsorption and activation. Benefiting from the synergistic effect of the atomic interface engineering of single‐atom Pt and interfacial TiOTi, the optimized photocatalyst exhibits excellent CO2‐to‐CO conversion activity of 20.5 μmol g−1 h−1 with a selectivity of 96%, which is five times that of commercial TiO2 (P25). This work sheds new light on designing ideal atomic‐scale interface and single‐atom catalysts for efficient solar fuel conversation.

Abstract:Efficient photocatalysts are of great importance for the photochemical conversion of CO2 into fuels. Herein, S-scheme titanium dioxide@cobalt-nickel based metal-organic framework (TiO2@CoNi-MOF) heterojunction photocatalysts with high surface area and porosity are designed and fabricated by a multi-step controllable strategy. The photocatalytic activity of the composites can be optimized by adjusting the loading content of CoNi-MOF in TiO2@CoNi-MOF and molar ratios of Co2+ and Ni2+ in CoNi-MOF. The optimized hybrid photocatalyst showed a much higher CO2 photoreduction activity than the control single-component samples (TiO2 and CoNi-MOF) with a high CH4 yield (41.65 μmol g-1 h-1) and selectivity (93.2%). The accelerated charge carrier separation induced by the S-scheme heterojunction significantly promoted the photocatalytic performance of TiO2@CoNi-MOF NTs. Meanwhile, the introduction of bimetallic CoNi-MOF nanosheets significantly resulted in the increase of active sites, CO2 adsorbability, visible-light utilization, and CH4 selectivity. Moreover, the S-scheme photoinduced charge transfer model of the TiO2@CoNi-MOF NTs photocatalyst was confirmed by photoluminescence spectroscopy, free radical trapping tests, and work function calculated from Kelvin probe. The work aims to design and fabricate heterojunction photocatalysts with high efficiency for solar fuel production.
Co-embedding oxygen vacancy and copper particles into titanium-based oxides (TiO2, BaTiO3, and SrTiO3) nanoassembly for enhanced CO2 photoreduction through surface/interface synergy

Abstract:Photocatalytic CO2 reduction into valuable fuel and chemical production has been regarded as a prospective strategy for tackling with the issues of the increasing of greenhouse gases and shortage of sustainable energy. A composite photocatalysis system employing a semiconductor enriched with oxygen vacancy and coupled with metallic cocatalyst can facilitate charge separation and transfer electrons. In this work, mesoporous TiO2 and titanium-based perovskite oxides (BaTiO3 and SrTiO3) nanoparticle assembly incorporated with abundant oxygen vacancy and copper particles have been successfully synthesized for CO2 photoreduction. As an example, the TiO2 decorated with different amounts of Cu particles has an impact on photocatalytic CO2 reduction into CH4 and CO. Particularly, the optimal TiO2/Cu-0.1 exhibits nearly 13.5 times higher CH4 yield (22.27 μmol g-1 h-1) than that of pristine TiO2 (1.65 μmol g-1 h-1). The as-obtained BaTiO3/Cu-0.1 and SrTiO3/Cu-0.1 also show enhanced CH4 yields towards photocatalytic CO2 reduction compared with pristine ones. Based on the temperature programmed desorption (TPD) and photo/electrochemical measurements, the co-embedding of Cu particles and abundant oxygen vacancy into the titanium-based oxides could promote CO2 adsorption capacity as well as separation and transfer of photoinduced electron-hole pairs, and finally result in efficient CO2 photoreduction upon the TiO2/Cu, SrTiO3/Cu, and BaTiO3/Cu composites.

Abstract:Metal-organic layers (MOLs), a type of new-emerging two-dimensional ultrathin metal-organic framework materials with large surface areas and highly exposed active sites, have shown promising applications in photocatalytic CO 2 reduction. However, due to a lack of photosensitivity and photooxidation capability, photosensitizers and sacrificial reductants are usually necessary for MOLs-based photocatalytic CO 2 reduction systems. In this article, by integration of MOLs and quantum dots (QDs), we constructed MOLs-based catalysts with multi-functions of photosensitivity, photoreduction and photooxidation, which thus can serve as photocatalysts for CO 2 reduction with H 2 O as an electron donor. Specifically, by an electrostatic self-assembly approach, nickel(II)-based MOLs (Ni-MOLs) and CsPbBr 3 QDs have been assembled, constructing valid II-Scheme Ni-MOLs/CsPbBr 3 heterojunctions with close Ni-MOLs/CsPbBr 3 heterointerface. Such a close heterointerface shortens the charge transfer distance, thus effectively boosting the charge separation and transfer. As a result, upon illumination by visible light ( λ ⩾ 400 nm, 100 mW cm −2 ), the optimized photocatalyst shows high efficiency and stability in photochemical CO 2 reduction in the absence of any photosensitizers and sacrificial reductants. The CO yield reaches as high as 124 μmol g −1 in 4 h, over 6 times higher than that achieved by CsPbBr 3 . Additionally, the selectivity reaches 100%. This work provides a new way to construct MOL-based catalysts for artificial photosynthesis.

Abstract:Photocatalytic CO2 reduction is a most promising technique to capture CO2 and reduce it to non-fossil fuel and other valuable compounds. Today, we are facing serious environmental issues due to the usage of excessive amounts of non-renewable energy resources. In this aspect, photocatalytic CO2 reduction will provide us with energy-enriched compounds and help to keep our environment clean and healthy. For this purpose, various photocatalysts have been designed to obtain selective products and improve efficiency of the system. Semiconductor materials have received great attention and have showed good performances for CO2 reduction. Titanium dioxide has been widely explored as a photocatalyst for CO2 reduction among the semiconductors due to its suitable electronic/optical properties, availability at low cost, thermal stability, low toxicity, and high photoactivity. Inspired by natural photosynthesis, the artificial Z-scheme of photocatalyst is constructed to provide an easy method to enhance efficiency of CO2 reduction. This review covers literature in this field, particularly the studies about the photocatalytic system, TiO2 Z-scheme heterojunction composites, and use of transition metals for CO2 photoreduction. Lastly, challenges and opportunities are described to open a new era in engineering and attain good performances with semiconductor materials for photocatalytic CO2 reduction.

An S-scheme heterointerface-engineered high-performance ternary NiAl-LDH@TiO2/Ti3C2 MXene photocatalytic system for solar-powered CO2 reduction to produce energy-rich fuels

Abstract:While there is much potential for photocatalytic CO2 reduction, poor light absorption and high recombination rates of photogenerated charges limit its effectiveness. To address these challenges, we systematically developed a heterointerface-engineered ternary hybrid photocatalyst comprising NiAl-layered double hydroxide (LDH), titanium dioxide (TiO2), and titanium carbide (Ti3C2) MXene via an in situ growth approach. As a result of the unique combination of these three components, the synthesized ternary NiAl-LDH@TiO2/Ti3C2 photocatalyst demonstrated broad light absorption spanning across the ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared regions, as well as elevated CO2 adsorption capacity. In situ-irradiated X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electron paramagnetic resonance analyses provided compelling evidence for an unconventional S-scheme charge transfer mechanism in the ternary system that effectively separates the charges and suppresses recombination, allowing NiAl-LDH to maintain its strong reducing capacity and TiO2 to maintain its robust oxidizing capacity. Utilizing the complementary and synergistic properties of these three components (NiAl-LDH, TiO2, and Ti3C2), an optimized ternary NiAl-LDH@TiO2/Ti3C2 photocatalyst with 30 wt% Ti3C2 exhibited extraordinary solar-driven CO2 reduction performance with a remarkable 99 % CO selectivity against competitive H2 production and a high apparent quantum yield of 0.81 at 365 nm. Additionally, the ternary photocatalyst exhibited excellent stability, maintaining its performance capacity over multiple CO2 reduction cycles. This work provides a fresh perspective on designing and creating efficient ternary S-scheme photocatalytic systems for solar-driven CO2 reduction and highlights the potential for energy-rich fuel production.

Abstract:One of the challenges in developing practical CO2 photoconversion catalysts is the design of materials with a low cost, high activity and good stability. In this paper, excellent photocatalysts based on TiO2, WO3, ZnO, Cu2O and CeO2 metal oxide materials, which are cost-effective, long-lasting, and easy to fabricate, are evaluated. The characteristics of the nanohybrid catalysts depend greatly on their architecture and design. Thus, we focus on outstanding materials that offer effective and practical solutions. Strategies to improve CO2 conversion efficiency are summarized, including heterojunction, ion doping, defects, sensitization and morphology control, which can inspire the future improvement in photochemistry. The capacity of CO2 adsorption is also pivotal, which varies with the morphological and electronic structures. Forms of 0D, 1D, 2D and 3DOM (zero/one/two-dimensional- and three-dimensional-ordered macroporous, respectively) are involved. Particularly, the several advantages of the 3DOM material make it an excellent candidate material for CO2 conversion. Hence, we explain its preparation method. Based on the discussion, new insights and prospects for designing high-efficient metallic oxide photocatalysts to reduce CO2 emissions are presented.

Abstract:A 3D interwoven porous pristine Co‐metal‐organic framework (MOF) is successfully synthesized as an efficient photocatalyst for CO2 reduction, in which the mechanism of CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) outstanding performance originates from synergistic effect of structural feature, metal center, and organic ligand. As a desired utilization of the conversion of CO2 into valuable carbon fuel production under solar energy, it remains challenging due to the lack of efficient catalysts. Herein, a 3D interpenetrating metal‐organic framework of [Co(Tipa)(HCOO)2(H2O)]·H2O (Co‐Tipa) with 1D open channel is solvothermally synthesized using a semi‐flexible ligand (Tipa = tri‐(4‐(1H‐imidazol‐1‐yl)‐phenyl)amine). The tridentate bridge ligand‐oriented periodicity Co‐Tipa MOF is combined with ruthenium‐based photosensitizers under mild reaction conditions to form an efficient nonhomogeneous co‐catalyst for photocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR). As a crystalline MOFs catalyst, the CO production rate, selectivity, and the quantum yield under visible light irradiation offer outstanding performance for the synergistic advantages of structural feature, metal center, and organic ligand. The stability and reusability of the Co‐Tipa co‐catalyst in the reaction system are profited from the robust 3D entangled framework. The mechanism of how to enhance CO2RR performance for the Co‐Tipa is assisted in illustration through density functional theory (DFT) calculations. By leveraging the unique structural properties of entangled MOFs, this study offers innovative approaches for the development of more effective and s Co‐Tipa catalysts that can selectively CO2 into valuable chemicals and fuels.

Abstract:Among all greenhouse gases, CO2 is considered the most potent and the largest contributor to global warming. In this review, photocatalysis is presented as a promising technology to address the current global concern of industrial CO2 emissions. Photocatalysis utilizes a semiconductor material under renewable solar energy to reduce CO2 into an array of high-value fuels including methane, methanol, formaldehyde and formic acid. Herein, the kinetic and thermodynamic principles of CO2 photoreduction are thoroughly discussed and the CO2 reduction mechanism and pathways are described. Methods to enhance the adsorption of CO2 on the surface of semiconductors are also presented. Due to its efficient photoactivity, high stability, low cost, and safety, the semiconductor TiO2 is currently being widely investigated for its photocatalytic ability in reducing CO2 when suitably modified. The recent TiO2 synthesis and modification strategies that may be employed to enhance the efficiency of the CO2 photoreduction process are described. Rational Design of Honeycomb-Like APTES-TiO2/COF Heterostructures: Promoted Intramolecular Charge Transfer for Visible-Light-driven Catalytic CO2 Reduction

Abstract:Utilizing organic structures to combine with TiO2 is regarded as a potent strategy for meliorating the photo-catalytic performance of TiO2. Nonetheless, exploration towards the impact of modulation at organic molecular level for the COF construction (e.g., the types, substituent group and the arrangement of the building blocks), upon the optical or/and electronic features of TiO2-COF heterostructures is relatively scarce. Herein, a nitrogen-rich covalent organic framework (COF) which is employed to covalently integrate with amino-propyltriethoxysilane modified TiO2 (APTES-TiO2) through Schiff-base reaction. Due to the significant charge density disparity between the two building units, 2, 4, 6-tris (4-aminophenyl)-1, 3, 5-triazine (TAPT) and melem in the hybridized TiO2@TMP-COF with honeycomb-like morphology, the promoted intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) brings about accelerated charge delivery efficiency within the heterostructure by contrast to the structure-similar COF established hybrid, TiO2@TM-COF, which is built by the identical approach except for the involvement of TAPT monomer. Accordingly, the photocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) dominated by TiO2@TMP-COF affords the CO production of 6.76 mu mol center dot g(-1)center dot h(-1), about 3 times that of TiO2@TM-COF; still, the enhanced catalytic efficiency than either the constituent TiO2 or TMP-COF owes much to the Z-scheme charge migration dynamics and augmented light-capturing capability within the hybrid. Our study opens a new landscape of heterostructure establishment for simultaneously ameliorating light absorption and accelerating charge delivery in photocatalysis.

Abstract:Improving the photocatalytic efficiency of a fully noble-metal-free system for CO2 reduction remains a fundamental challenge, which can be accomplished by facilitating electron delivery as a consequence of exploiting intermolecular interactions. Herein, we have designed two Cu(I) photosensitizers with different pyridyl pendants at the phenanthroline moiety to enable dynamic coordinative interactions between the sensitizers and a cobalt macrocyclic catalyst. Compared to the parent Cu(I) photosensitizer, one of the pyridine-tethered derivatives boosts the apparent quantum yield up to 76 ± 6% at 425 nm for selective (near 99%) CO2-to-CO conversion. This value is nearly twice that of the parent system with no pyridyl pendants (40 ± 5%) and substantially surpasses the record (57%) of the noble-metal-free systems reported so far. This system also realizes a maximum turnover number of 11 800 ± 1400. In contrast, another Cu(I) photosensitizer, in which the pyridine substituents are directly linked to the phenanthroline moiety, is inactive. The above behavior and photocatalytic mechanism are systematically elucidated by transient fluorescence, transient absorption, transient X-ray absorption spectroscopies, and quantum chemical calculations. This work highlights the advantage of constructing coordinative interactions to fine-tune the electron transfer processes within noble-metal-free systems for CO2 photoreduction.

Abstract:The search for heterogeneous, visible light-active, transition metal-free, stable, and reusable photocatalysts for organic photoredox reactions remains a challenge for the chemists. Here, this study reports on a series of hybrid photocatalysts consisting of conjugated microporous polymer-based organic semiconductors with immobilized TiO2 nanoparticles. The organic/inorganic semiconductor-based hybrid photocatalytic system can enhance the photoinduced charge separation and thereby increasing the photocatalytic efficiency. As model reactions, the photocatalytic oxidative coupling reaction of amines and the selective oxidation of organic sulfides can be catalyzed with almost quantitative conversion and selectivity. The catalytic efficiency of the hybrid photocatalyst is higher than that of the pristine single photocatalytic systems as the conjugated microporous polymer and TiO2. Furthermore, the mechanistic study of the photoredox reactions is also described.
Metalloporphyrin-Decorated Titanium Dioxide Nanosheets for Efficient Photocatalytic Carbon Dioxide Reduction

Abstract:In photocatalysis, the most efficient way to separate photogenerated electron-hole pairs has been extensively studied. However, the methods to increase the quantities of free electrons are neglected. Herein, we used a self-assembly method to fabricate MTCPP/TiO2 composite materials with a series of metalloporphyrins (MTCPPs, M = Fe, Co, Zn) as sensitizers to modify TiO2 nanosheets. First, abundant carboxyl and hydroxyl on porphyrin were adsorbed by metal ions. Then, the remaining carboxyl and hydroxyl on porphyrin were anchored on the surface of TiO2 nanosheets. Finally, MTCPP/TiO2 was obtained by a layer-by-layer self-assembly process. MTCPP broadens the light response of TiO2 from ultraviolet light to visible light and enhances the CO2 adsorption ability. Moreover, metal ions coordinating with porphyrin regulate the electron density of the porphyrin ring and provide a stronger π feedback bond, which promote charge separation. Consequently, by optimizing the type of metal ion, the yield of ZnTCPP/TiO2 composites reached 109.33 μmol/(g h) of CO and 9.94 μmol/(g h) of CH4, which was more than 50 times that of pure TiO2. This study proposes a possible visible-light-induced CO2 reduction mechanism of metal-ion-based photocatalysis, which provides great insights into optimizing the designation of efficient photocatalysis.

Abstract:Photocatalysis appears as one of the most promising avenues to shift towards sustainable sources of energy, owing to its ability to transform solar light into chemical energy, e.g. production of chemical fuels via oxygen evolution (OER) and CO2 reduction (CO2RR) reactions. Ti metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and graphitic carbon nitride derivatives, i.e. poly-heptazine imides (PHI) are appealling CO2RR and OER photo-catalysts respectively. Engineering of an innovative Z-scheme heterojunction by assembling a Ti-MOF and PHI offers an unparalleled opportunity to mimick an artificial photosynthesis device for dual CO2RR/OER catalysis. Along this path, understanding of the photophysical processes controlling the MOF/PHI interfacial charge recombination is vital to fine tune the electronic and chemical features of the two components and devise the optimum heterojunction. To address this challenge, we developed a modelling approach integrating force field Molecular Dynamics (MD), Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory (TD-DFT) and Non-Equilibrium Green Function DFT (NEGF-DFT) tools with the aim to systematically explore the structuring, the opto-electronic and transport properties of MOF/PHI heterojunctions. We revealed that the nature of the MOF/PHI interactions, the interfacial charge transfer directionality and the absorption energy windows of the resulting heterojunctions can be fine tuned by incorporating Cu species in the MOF and/or doping PHI with mono- or divalent cations. Interestingly, we demonstrated that the interfacial charge transfer can be further boosted by engineering MOF/PHI device junctions and application of negative bias. Overall, our generalizable computational methodology unravelled that the performance of CO2RR/OER photoreactors can be optimized by chemical and electronic tuning of the components but also by device design based on reliable structure-property rules, paving the way towards practical exploitation.
