Abstract:BACKGROUND: Oral health and general health are interdependent which influence each other through biological, psychological, emotional, and developmental factors. As patients in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) are completely dependent on the caregivers, the knowledge, attitude, and practices of the nurses influence the recovery of patients to a greater extent.OBJECTIVES: Unfortunately, oral health problems are usually overshadowed by other serious needs in critically ill patients. In addition, nursing staff appear to perceive oral health as the most difficult part of their work, hence been a low-priority intervention. Therefore, the aim of the study was to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practices of ICU nurses on oral care in critically ill patients.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 200 nurses working in 21 different hospitals in Mysore, Karnataka, participated in the cross-sectional survey. The survey instrument included the demographic details, knowledge, attitude, and practice of oral care, complications in ICU due to lack of oral care, and educative programs attended.RESULTS: Among the 200 ICU nurses, 67% had ICU experience of more than 5 years. About 94% were diploma candidates, 5% were graduates, and only 2% were postgraduates with a mean age of 27.5 years. All the participants were aware of the concept of focal infection theory and 93% knew about the potential complications associated with poor oral hygiene in ICU. About 95.5% of the nurses performed oral care after every shift change and used gauze soaked in chlorhexidine routinely. Nearly 76.5% of the participants stated mechanical obstruction as a main barrier toward oral care.CONCLUSION: A variety of oral care practices exist for ventilated patients but, the majority of nurses used chlorhexidine with gauze. They failed to adhere to the latest evidence-based practice despite ranking oral care as a high priority. They need to be educated to improve clinical outcomes thereby reducing the hospital mortality and stay in ICU.

Abstract:Introduction: Patients' health outcomes can be positively affected by the oral care provided by intensive care unit (ICU) nurses. Providing effective oral care for intubated patients is a challenging task. The purpose of this study was to examine the knowledge, attitudes, and practices(KAP) of oral care among ICU nurses for intubated patients, as well as the underlying factors that influence these behaviors. Method: This cross-sectional survey was conducted on 200 nurses from adult ICUs in referral hospitals located in the central eighth area of healthcare management in Iran. The timeframe for data collection was April to June in 2023. Data were collected by questionnaires which consisted of four sections: demographic information, knowledge, attitudes and practices of oral care for intubated patients. The Pearson Correlation Coefficient was employed to determine the correlation between KAP and its main variables, which were distributed normally. Results: The result showed that nurses were 32.19 ± 6.23 years old, with an average total work experience of 8.91 ± 5.54 years and an average ICU work experience of 5.89 ± 4.31 years. The mean KAP score were17.66 ± 3.04, 15.46 ± 4.23, and 7.57 ± 2.21, respectively. The knowledge of nurses was significantly impacted by their level of education (p = 0.04), and an increase in work experience each year was associated with improved attitudes among nurses (p = 0.04). A significant association was found between the nurses' oral care practice, knowledge (p = 0.03), and attitude (p = 0.04). Conclusion: This study revealed that ICU nurses possess a moderate level of knowledge, a higher-than-average level of practice, and they have a favorable attitude towards giving oral care to intubated patients. Therefore, providing continuous education about oral care is essential for ICU nurses.
Assessment of Nursing Staff's Knowledge, Attitude and Practice Regarding Oral Hygiene Care in Intensive Care Unit Patients: A Multicenter Cross-sectional Study

Abstract:Background: Oral care is one of the fundamental nursing care procedures used to decrease oral colonization, dental plaque, respiratory infections, patient stay, and cost. The importance of good oral hygiene for patients in intensive care units (ICUs) is well recognized, however, the most effective way to achieve good oral care in the ICU is unclear. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of nursing professionals regarding oral healthcare in ICUs among various medical institutes across India. Materials and methods: A questionnaire-based multicentric cross-sectional survey was conducted among registered nursing professionals employed at ICUs of three government tertiary healthcare centers (THC) of India: THC-I, THC-II, and THC-III located in the eastern and northern parts of India between February 2022 and July 2022. Results: A total of 150 nurses completed the questionnaire form (response rate: 62.5%) comprised of 49 (32.7%) males and 101 (67.3%) females with a mean age of 35.69 ± 7.7 years. Nursing officers' knowledge surpassed that of staff nurses regarding the duration of toothbrushing (p = 0.033). Among interinstitutional comparisons, THC-I nurses showed the greatest knowledge regarding the duration of toothbrushing and the mechanism of preventing saliva accumulation to reduce microbial growth (p = 0.013 and p = 0.003, respectively). Based on total work experience, participants were segregated into three groups: Group I (<7 years), group II (7.1-13.9 years), and group III (>14 years). Group II surpassed the knowledge of denture removal during sleep, cleaning after every meal, and storing in personalized air-tight containers (p = 0.001 and p = 0.036, respectively). The majority from group II recommended plain saline as the material for oral hygiene maintenance in ICU patients (p = 0.008). Group III predominantly practiced the ideal handwashing technique pre- and post-patient contact which was statistically significant (p = 0.001). Conclusion: This study observed that a knowledge gap exists among the nurses of the three institutes across India pertaining to the oral hygiene care of ICU patients. Nurse's education and implementation of the proper oral hygiene measures for intubated patients in ICU setup is an essential need. Factors affecting quality of oral care in intensive care units

Abstract:Aims: This paper presents a study to assess to nurses' attitudes and practices concerning oral care and to determine predictors of the quality of oral care in intensive care units. Background: The oropharynx of critically ill patients becomes colonized with potential respiratory pathogens; oral care has been shown to reduce oropharyngeal bacteria and ventilator-associated pneumonia. Methods: In April 2002, a random and national sample of 420 intensive care unit directors was asked to participate in the survey. Of invited directors, 126 (30%) agreed to participate and were sent questionnaires to be completed anonymously by their staff, and 102 institutions returned 556 surveys. This gave a response rate of 83% of those who consented to participate. Results: The path model shows that nurses' oral care education, having sufficient time to provide care, prioritizing oral care, and not viewing oral care as unpleasant had direct effects on the quality of provided care. Intensive care unit experience, oral care education, and having sufficient time had indirect effects. Conclusion: Improving the quality of oral care in intensive care units is a multi-layered task. Reinforcing proper oral care in education programmes, de-sensitizing nurses to the often-perceived unpleasantness of cleaning oral cavities, and working with hospital managers to allow sufficient time to attend to oral care are recommended.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Health care-associated infections are one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). This study identified health care providers' perspectives for providing quality infection control measures at a NICU.METHODS: A qualitative approach was adopted. Participants were selected via a purposive sampling technique. The study group was composed of 3 medical staff who held leadership positions and 10 nurses working in the NICU at Cairo University Hospital. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews.RESULTS: Responses were analyzed using a thematic content analysis. The priorities identified by thematic analysis were suggestions and barriers for providing quality infection control measures, from the perspectives of health care providers. All interviewees cited shortage in staffing, especially nurses, lack of time to apply infection control standards, limited opportunities for infection control training, and work overload as the main barriers. All interviewees recommended on-going training and the introduction of audiovisual aids and case study approaches.CONCLUSIONS: Lack of time to apply infection control standards, limited opportunities for infection control training, and work overload are the most commonly perceived barriers. The current infection control system in the NICU is likely to remain ineffective unless these underlying barriers are adequately addressed.

Abstract:Objective To investigate oral care practice for intubated patients in ICU,to probe into the influencing factors,and to provide references for the development of improvement schemes.Methods A self-designed questionnaire was used to investigate 195 nurses from 3 Grade 3A hospitals in Shanghai.Results ICU nurses gave inconsistent descriptions of oral care policy and evaluation criteria.Totally,66.67% of them implemented oral swabbing and rinse for intubated patients,and 65.64% preferred chlorhexidine as the oral rinse of choice.The ICU nurses scored(11.89±2.74)points in cognition dimension,and(3.77±1.15)points in attitude.Among the influencing factors,the item of insufficient oral care product supplies,was rated the highest,being(4.23±0.79)points.Conclusion There is not unanimous agreement and regulations in oral care practice for intubated patients in ICU.To enhance oral care quality,ICU nurses′cognition,and attitudes toward oral care practice should be improved;oral care products should be modified;and the evidence-based clinical practice guidelines should be established.

Abstract:Objective To explore the oral care experience of head nurses in nursing of intensive care unit (ICU)patients with endotracheal intubation.Methods The phenomenological methodology was used in the study. Semi-structured in-depth interviews of 10 head nurses from 10 ICUs of 7 tertiary hospitals in Shanghai were conducted.Results The status quo of oral care for intubated patients was in confusion.Theoperation standards were lack of specific evaluation and not in line with clinical practice. Yet there was no standard system for oral care assessment,evaluation and training of ICU nurses. The oral care appliances were not practical. The ICU nurses were shorthanded along with heavy workload. But the awareness and attention on oral care in head nurses and clinical nurses had beenimproved.Conclusion It is urgent to compileevidence-based clinical practice guidelines for oral care of the patients with endotracheal intubation,improve oral care appliances and ICU management system,to promote the quality of clinical nursing practice.

Abstract:Background: Oral cavity bacteria can be mostly harmful if inhaled into the lungs. Hospital acquired pneumonia (HAP), a critical condition that presents clinically two or more days after hospitalization, which may increase the risk of mortality. Lacking oral care can lead to Hospital acquired pneumonia. Objective: to explore effective oral care consequence on hospital acquired pneumonia prevention. Methods: This review article is performed according to the PRISMA guidelines. The literature exploration was done in Google Scholar and PubMed databases for articles published between 2017 and 2020. The search words were “oral care, oral hygiene, intensive care, critical care, ICU, respiratory infection, lung infection, pneumonia, and adult". Results: A total of 6 studies were included, the studies were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies. Oral care with tooth brushing and purified water twice daily can significantly reduce the incidence of HAP. Brushing patient mouth with chlorhexidine is also effective in decreasing the HAP incidence. Implementing oral care protocols in ICU with chlorhexidine solution and nurse education can significantly lower the incidence of HAP. Conclusions: Good oral and dental care, particularly with tooth brushing and purified water twice daily, can significantly reduce the incidence of HAP in intensive care unit patients.

Abstract:Background: Poor oral health can lead to hospital-acquired pneumonia, a serious condition that can prolong patient care and increase the risk of mortality. The bacteria found in the oral cavity of patients with periodontal disease can be particularly harmful if inhaled into the lungs. Patients who are on mechanical ventilation are at an increased risk of developing aspiration pneumonia. Objective: to investigate the effect of oral care on ventilation associated pneumonia (VAP) and various types of such care. Methods: This review article is performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The literature exploration was done in PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases for articles published between 2011 and 2023. The search words were "Mechanical ventilation, intubation, pneumonia, dental care, oral care and ICU ". Results: A total of 21 studies were included, the studies were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) or quasi-RCTs and observational studies. Twice-daily oral care with tooth brushing using purified water can significantly reduce the incidence of VAP. Oral care with chlorhexidine and brushing, as well as enhanced oral care, can also be effective in reducing the incidence of VAP. Improved education and implementation of oral care protocols with 0.12% chlorhexidine solution can significantly reduce the incidence of VAP. Conclusions: The review concludes that good oral hygiene, especially twice-daily oral care with tooth brushing using purified water, can significantly reduce the incidence of VAP in mechanically ventilated patients.

Abstract:Background: Nosocomial infections are particularly common among hospitalized patients who undergo resuscitation compared with other types of care. Hand hygiene remains the simplest and most effective measure to prevent and control the risk of infection. Objective: The main objectives are to evaluate hand hygiene compliance among nursing staff in the different intensive care units and to identify the factors influencing the adherence of nursing staff to the practice. Methods: It was a quantitative descriptive study using a questionnaire and an observation grid with all the nursing staff working in all the intensive care units of our university hospital. Results: The study showed a hand contamination rate of (80%), a hand hygiene compliance rate of (21.3%), it also showed the different factors explaining non-adherence, these are not necessarily related to training, nor to the availability of material resources but related to hidden reasons, non-apparent factors, which are often more important. (Workload and work environment) Conclusion: This study examined hand hygiene in the ICU setting, obtained data on overall compliance, which remains poor, and the various factors influencing nurses' adherence to the practice.
Impact of various solutions on the oral health status of critically ill patients

Abstract:Oral care is a crucial challenge of nursing care in orally intubated patients. Oropharyngeal colonization with microorganisms is probably the first step in the pathogenesis of most bacterial pulmonary infections. This study aimed to investigate the effect of different oral care solutions on the oral health status of critically ill patients. We conducted a quasi-experimental study involving a convenience sample of 60 adult orally intubated patients, distributed equally into three groups: 20 patients received 0.12% chlorhexidine gluconate (CHX) solution as an oral rinse; 20 patients received 0.1% hexetidine (HEX) solution as an oral rinse; and a control group of 20 patients received routine hospital oral care with 0.9% normal saline (NS) solution. Oropharyngeal and tracheal cultures were obtained from patients within 24-48 h of admission, before the administration of topical oral antimicrobial solutions and then repeated on day 4 and day 7 after the oral solutions. The study revealed that CHX has a more powerful effect than HEX and NS in improving the oral mucosa and decreasing colonization of both the oropharynx and trachea. On day 7, the improvements were statistically significant in the CHX group and the HEX group (P = 0.02 and P = 0.03, respectively), but not in the NS group. This research confirms the effect of CHX and HEX in lowering the risk of tracheal and oropharyngeal colonization, and recommends the use of a CHX solution as oral mouth care in critically ill patients.

Abstract:Background: Nursing care of intubated patients is a high risk, complex intervention that can lead to several complications. Misconduct of practice and negligence to meet the required standards of care may cause patient harm, elevate treatment costs, and increase patients’ ICU stay. Aim: Evaluate the effect of educational program on critical care nurses' performance of cuffed endotracheal tube care. Sampling: All critical care nurses on duty regardless of their personal data, their total number were 60 nurses. Tools of Data Collection: The First Tool: Socio demographic characteristics of ICU nurses that include (age, gender, qualification, work place, and years of experience and attendance of training courses) Second Tool: Nurse Knowledge assessment questionnaire: Used to assess the nurses’ knowledge level about the cuffed ETT care. Third Tool: Nurses’ practice checklist for cuffed endotracheal tube care used by investigator to assess ICUs nurses' practice level while applying the cuffed EET care. Results: Reveals that 6.7% of study participants represents a satisfactory knowledge level pre application of the blended learning educational program which improved to 96.7% post 2 weeks followed by slightly decrease 95% Post 3 months. Conclusion: The current study concluded that implementing an educational program regarding cuffed endotracheal tube care using the blended method significantly improve the nurses’ performance regarding cuffed endotracheal tube care. Recommendations: Blended training should be widely used for all nurses in different units and departments to ensure updated knowledge and practices through continuing education center

Abstract:Back ground: Management program about infection control is important to help head nurses gain knowledge to perform their roles, and for nurses to comply with standard infection control measures . Objective: Evaluate efficacy of implementing management program about infection control practices for nursing staff. Setting: All departments in Tanta University Emergency Hospital. Subjects: All head nurses (N= 31) and nurses (N =175) working in all departments of emergency hospital. Tools: (1) Infection Control Knowledge Questionnaire sheet, (2) Head Nurses' Performance Role on Infection Control Assessment Scale and, (3) Observational checklist, related to Infection Control practices. Results: Head nurses 58.1% and nurses 80.0% had poor level of total knowledge about infection control pre- program , while majority (90.3%- 86%) were at high level post program. Head nurses 61.3% had poor level of total specific knowledge pre-program, changed to be 90.3% and 87.1% had good level of knowledge post program . Pre-program majority (90.3%) of head nurses had mild level of performance of educational , consultation, research and support team in surveillance roles decreased to (3.2%) post program. Nurses range (15.4% - 22.9%) showed compliance level to infection control practices pre-program, improved to range (75.4% - 84.0%) post program with highly statistically significant differences (p= < 0.001). Conclusion: At Tanta University Emergency Hospital nursing staff basic knowledge, head nurses specific knowledge and role performance and nurses' compliance were low and statistically improved after implementation of needed management program. Recommendation: conduct regular training programs for nursing staff and encourage culture of compliance to infection control practices.

Abstract:Objectives To critically analyse and discuss oral hygiene protocols in the hospital environment in patients admitted to the ICU, through a systematic review of the literature. Methods The electronic search was performed on Pubmed, Cochrane, Web of Science and Google Scholar databases. The indexing keywords according to the PRISMA protocol were: 'hospital dentistry', 'oral health', 'oral care' and 'intensive care unit'. Results The initial search resulted in a total of 2671 articles. Pre‐selection based on titles led to the exclusion of 2510 articles and the remaining 36 were selected for abstract reading. After analysing the eligibility of the articles, eight studies were included in the review and submitted to qualitative analysis. Conclusion It can be concluded that cleaning with a soft bristle brush, use of chlorhexidine and lip moisturizing are methods commonly used in dental care actions in patients hospitalized in intensive care units.

Abstract:Background: Advanced technologies in intensive care units, including artificial intelligence and digitization, has implications for psycho-emotional aspects of caring in terms of communication, involvement, and holistic provision in a safe, effective, and efficient manner. Critical care nurses must maintain a balance between their technological and humanistic caring behaviours during the provision of individualized holistic patient care. Therefore, this study was conducted to examine level and predictors of caring behaviours among critical care nurses in two Arab countries. Methods: A cross-sectional design was used to achieve the objective of this study, whereby a quantitative online questionnaire survey was administered to 210 adult intensive care unit nurses at two government hospitals in Sharjah (United Arab Emirates), and two university hospitals in Amman (Jordan). Based on G* Power analysis, 200 participants were adequate to run the analysis. Results: On average, 49% of the whole sample had 'good' caring behaviours. Among nurses who were working in Emirati intensive care units, 48.5% had good caring behaviours, compared to 47.4% of Jordanian intensive care unit nurses. Additionally, the results showed that predictors of caring behaviours among nurses include female gender, holding a master's degree, interest in nursing profession, and a 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio. Conclusions: About half of the ICU nurses in this study had low levels of caring behaviours. The present study highlights the requirement for integrating the concept of holistic and patient-centred care as the essence of the nursing profession in nursing curricula to improve the level of care provided by all nurses working in intensive care units. Continuing education programs and specific interventional programs should be directed toward predictors of caring behaviours among each specific group of nurses. Future research is needed using qualitative methods to understand what the perception of intensive care unit nurses is about caring.
Implementation and Effectiveness of a Nurse‐Led Oral Hygiene Program for Schoolchildren: A Quasi‐Experimental Study

Abstract:Objectives Good oral hygiene is essential for schoolchildren's well‐being. However, lack of knowledge, negative attitudes, and poor oral hygiene practices may predispose to oral‐related diseases. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a nurse‐led oral hygiene program on schoolchildren's knowledge, attitudes, and practices. Design A quasi‐experimental design with pre‐and‐post‐test was used. Sample Using the convenience sampling technique, we recruited 400 schoolchildren, aged 11–12 and in grades 5–6, from two primary schools in Egypt. Methods The study was conducted from September 2022 to May 2023. The Oral Hygiene Program served as the primary intervention. This program contains health education topics (e.g., the importance of oral hygiene, techniques for effective tooth brushing, and dietary choices that promote dental health). Three visits were conducted (Visit 1: introduction of the program purpose and objectives and pre‐test scores collection, Visit 2: implementation of oral hygiene topics, and Visit 3: post‐test scores collection). We used three self‐report instruments (Oral Health Knowledge Questionnaire, Hiroshima University's Dental Behavioral Inventory, and Oral Health Practice Questionnaire) for pre‐ and post‐test. Paired T test and Pearson correlation analysis were used for data analysis. Results After the intervention program, the oral hygiene program effectively enhanced schoolchildren's knowledge, attitudes, and practices. The post‐intervention mean scores were 7.83 ± 0.488 (knowledge), 6.63 ± 1.7 (practices), and 9.33 ± 1.1 (attitudes). High statistically significant differences were noted between schoolchildren's oral health knowledge, attitudes, and practices before and after implementing the program (p = 0.000). Conclusion There were enhancements in the level of knowledge, with improved positive attitudes and satisfactory practices among schoolchildren after the implementation of the oral hygiene program. Integrating oral hygiene programs into the general curriculum in primary schools and training school nurses, caregivers, and teachers in implementing oral hygiene programs could improve oral health knowledge, attitudes, and practices for preventing oral problems.

Abstract:Background: Nurses' compliance with infection control practices is the key to quality and excellence in Covid-19 patient care; infection control remains one of the most cost beneficial and requires full compliance of the whole nursing team. Aim of the current study was to assess nursing staff compliance regarding infection control measures with COVID-19 patients at isolation hospitals. Design: Descriptive cross sectional study design was utilized to fulfill the aim of this study. Setting The study was conducted in two of corona virus's isolation hospitals at Minia City, Minia governorate, Egypt (Minia Chest Hospital & Minia Fever Hospital). Subjects: The study sample included (233) of nursing staff working in the prementioned hospitals, who were on duty during the period of data collection. Data Collection Tool: Observational Checklist of Nursing Staff Compliance with Infection Control and Prevention consisting of two parts; personal data sheet followed by Observation Checklist items. Results: Most of the studied nursing staff at the two hospitals had high level of compliance with infection control measures, while (12.4%) of them had low compliance level. Also, most of the studied nursing staff at Minia fever hospital had high compliance with protective measures, and linen management, while most of the studied nursing staff at Minia chest hospital had high compliance with safe injection practices, and specimen handling with statistically significance. Conclusion: The mean scores of total compliance level as well as the mean scores of personal protective equipment and safe injection practices sub-domain were observed higher in the morning shift than in the other work shifts with high statistically significant differences. Recommendations: Continuous education and training for all health care sectors about all waves of the Covid -19 virus. Frequently supervision by management levels to ensure nursing staff compliance with infection control measures during all work shifts.
Care Bundle Approach for Oral Health Maintenance and Reduction of Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia

Abstract:Caring for patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) creates competing priorities of interventions for nurses and other health care providers. Oral care might be prioritized lower; however, its neglect may lead to sequelae such as extended time in the ICU, nosocomial diseases most notably ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), or oral problems. Safe patient care depends on effective and efficient oral care. The aim of this study was to lower the incidence of VAP and maintain oral health through implementing an "oral care bundle" for mechanically ventilated (MV) patients. Using a quasi-experimental design, we divided 82 adult MV patients in the ICUs of a university-based hospital in Egypt into a control group (n = 41) that received the standard of care and a bundle group (n = 41) that received an "oral care bundle." The results of the study reported a significantly lower incidence of VAP in the intervention group (P = .015). It can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between receiving an oral care bundle and improved oral health and a reduction in the VAP rate among MV patients. This highlights the need to incorporate the oral care bundle in the daily nursing care for MV patients.
Nurses’ Practice and Knowledge of Peripheral Intravenous Cannula Flushing Pre-Therapy Administration at Medical-Surgical Wards

Abstract:Background: Peripheral intravenous cannula (PIVC) are a frequent nursing technique used for the infusion of beverages, medicines, and blood products and are required by the majority of patients. As a result, it is critical to maintain a sufficient supply of PIVC because they are prone to problems such as obstruction, phlebitis, and exudation, necessitating frequent replacement. However, post-insertion PIVC failure is common, most likely due to inconsistencies in maintenance practices such as flushing. As a result, hospital policies contribute to a lack of practice and awareness about this issue, which improves clinical education for nurses and patient care. Aim: This study aimed to assess nurses’ practice and knowledge of peripheral intravenous cannula flushing pre-therapy administration at medical-surgical wards. Subjects and Methods: A descriptive research design was utilized. A purposive sample of sixty-two nurses who were working in the medical-surgical wards at Teaching Hospital, Ismailia city, was used. Two tools were used for data collection: a self-administered questionnaire to identify nurses’ personal data and knowledge and an observational checklist to assess nurses’ practice. Results: The findings of this study revealed that most of the studied nurses had a fair level of knowledge and an unsatisfactory level of practice with regard to peripheral intravenous cannula flushing. Furthermore, there was a statistically significant positive correlation between their total knowledge and practice scores, with a p value≤0.05. Conclusion: In the present study, the nurses’ level of practice was inadequate, and their knowledge of peripheral intravenous cannula flushing was fair. Additionally, there was a highly statistically significant relationship between total performance score (practices and knowledge) and their qualifications, with a p value≤0.05. Recommendations: Nurses should have access to ongoing educational opportunities and in-service training programs on short peripheral catheter intravenous flushing to improve their expertise.
