Abstract:Effective management of water resources is essential for crop diversification and food security. This study proposes an Irrigation-Food-Environment-Chance-constrained Programming (IFEC) model for simultaneously optimizing crop planting area, irrigation water, and residual fertilizer considering inflow uncertainty along with farmer preference crop. Eight irrigation water allocation optimal models were constructed, fixing the preference crop cultivation area, while deviations in downstream release, and vegetable crop area cultivation were executed for sensitivity analysis. Model is then applied in a command area fed by a sub-tributary of Brahmaputra, India. On averaging, plant available N and P for the area were 62.14 kg ha-1 and 1.13 kg ha-1 respectively. With variation in available water, changes would occur in vegetable and cereal crops having higher yield and relatively less crop water requirement as compared to maize. Results showed that complying with preference crop area up to 60% would decrease the profit by 49% as compared to 20% at even 10% risk probability for 70% release. At existing conditions, water would be insufficient at 60% preference crop. Further, R2 value between benefit and water availability for vegetable cultivation varies from 0.99 to 0.78 for all scenarios. The tool featured that, setting specific preference crop areas provides equitable situation rather than mono-cropping. From the study findings, we suggest two salient recommendations: (1) promoting policies with appropriate financial subsidies for vegetable cultivation that focus on intensification with less water-requiring crops and (2) optimization results could be achieved by expanding the water utilization in the present condition while increasing efficiency.

Abstract:Water resources sustainability is a worldwide concern because of climate variability, growing population, and excessive groundwater exploitation in order to meet freshwater demand. Addressing these conflicting challenges sometimes can be aided by using both simulation and mathematical optimization tools. This study combines a groundwater-flow simulation model and two optimization models to develop optimal reconnaissance-level water management strategies. For a given set of hydrologic and management constraints, both of the optimization models are applied to part of the Mahanadi River basin groundwater system, which is an important source of water supply in Odisha State, India. The first optimization model employs a calibrated groundwater simulation model (MODFLOW-2005, the U.S. Geological Survey modular ground-water model) within the Simulation-Optimization MOdeling System (SOMOS) module number 1 (SOMO1) to estimate maximum permissible groundwater extraction, subject to suitable constraints that protect the aquifer from seawater intrusion. The second optimization model uses linear programming optimization to: (a) optimize conjunctive allocation of surface water and groundwater and (b) to determine a cropping pattern that maximizes net annual returns from crop yields, without causing seawater intrusion. Together, the optimization models consider the weather seasons, and the suitability and variability of existing cultivable land, crops, and the hydrogeologic system better than the models that do not employ the distributed maximum groundwater pumping rates that will not induce seawater intrusion. The optimization outcomes suggest that minimizing agricultural rice cultivation (especially during the non-monsoon season) and increasing crop diversification would improve farmers' livelihoods and aid sustainable use of water resources.

Abstract:Poor quality groundwater can be used conjunctively with good quality canal water to fulfil crop water demand and maximize net annual returns particularly, in the arid and semi-arid regions where good quality soil and water resources are limited. A linear programming model was developed for the optimal land and water resources allocation in order to maximize net annual returns from an irrigated area located in Haryana State of India. Economic and hydrologic factors used in the model were yield, price, and cost of production of nine crops; unit costs of canal water and groundwater; quality of the mixed canal water and groundwater; and net irrigation requirement of crops. The spatial variations in land and water resources were considered through a network of grids. The water production functions were developed and incorporated in the model to estimate the crop yield under different qualities of irrigation water. A groundwater balance constraint was imposed on the model, which mitigate the waterlogging problems, while making optimal allocation of land and water resources. The model results show a reduction in rice, mustard, barley, and gram areas against an increase in cotton, sugarcane, wheat, millet, and sorghum under optimal cropping pattern. Under the optimal land and water allocation, the groundwater use is increased, which in turn mitigate the waterlogging and salinity problems of the study area. The net annual return from the study area has increased by about 26%. The sensitivity analysis of the model parameters shows that the market price of crops is most sensitive parameter followed by the crop area and cost of cultivation. State agencies and farmers involved in the actual agricultural production process are advised to practice conjunctive use of canal water and groundwater to maximize their farm income. This strategy could also mitigate further rise in the watertable without installing expensive drainage systems, which is also not feasible because the groundwater quality is poor and drainage water may pose a serious disposal problem.

Abstract:In arid and semi-arid regions, climate change causes a drastic decline in the volume of water resources as water demands increase. Thus, the present study is aimed at using a simulation-optimization model to perform conjunctive management of surface-ground water use to achieve two main objectives: (1) minimizing shortages in meeting irrigation water demands and (2) maximizing the total agricultural net benefit for the main crops of an agricultural sector. To meet these main goals, first, the genetic programming (GP) method is used to simulate surface water-groundwater interactions. Then, the simulation model is linked to a multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) as the optimization model, yielding a simulation-optimization model. In order to investigate the impact of different climatic conditions on the optimized surface and ground water allocation and propose an optimal crop pattern for each climatic period, three planning periods (wet, normal and dry) were addressed in modeling the conjunctive water use management problem. Finally, the economic results of this study suggested a maximum increase in the net benefit by 38.19%, 59.37% and 45%, as compared to those obtained in the actual operation in wet, normal and dry years, respectively, for one study sub-area. The net benefit was also increased by at most 84.79%, 83.3% and 120.77% in wet, normal and dry years, respectively, for another study sub-area, demonstrating the competence of the optimal conjunctive use model to enhance net benefits with the least negative socio-environmental impacts resulting from any development and management scheme in the field of water resources.

Abstract:Seasonal drought has become an important factor in agricultural production in humid and semi-humid areas. In this study, to mitigate the impact of seasonal drought, a new integrated mathematical model is proposed for optimal multi-crop irrigation scheduling, which is associated with conjunctive operation of reservoirs and ponds to maximize the annual returns for a reservoir-pond irrigation system. This objective is achieved via the use of two models: an operating policy model, which considers the regulatory role of ponds and optimizes reservoirs and ponds releases in one third of a month, and an allocation model, which optimizes irrigation allocations across crops by addressing water production function. The uneven distribution of ponds is also considered by dividing the irrigation district into many sub-districts. Artificial bee colony algorithm is innovatively improved by incorporating differential evolution algorithm and particle swarm optimization algorithm to solve this nonlinear, high-dimensional and complex optimization problem. The methodology is applied to the Zhanghe Irrigation Distict, which is located in Hubei Province of China, to demonstrate its applicability, and three additional models are simulated to demonstrate the validity of the integrated model. The results indicate that the integrated model can alleviate the impact of the seasonal drought and has remarkable optimization effect, especially for drought years. The average annual return calculated by the integrated model is 7.9, 7.0 and 3.1 % higher than that of the remaining three models, respectively. And in the special dry year, in which the frequency of rainfall is 95 %, the annual return calculated by the integrated model is 24.5, 21.8 and 10.1 % higher than that of the remaining three models, respectively.

Abstract:In this study, simulation and optimization models were assembled for the optimization of irrigation systems and their operation. The simulation model CROPWAT was used for estimation of the crop water requirement, time and depth. The evolutionary algorithm (GANetXL) was used for the optimal planning of cropping pattern, maximization of net benefits and minimization of irrigation water requirements for the study area of Holeta catchment, Ethiopia. The study area encompasses three command areas, i.e. farm A, farm B and Tsedey State Farm, and five different type of crops, i.e. potato, tomato, apple, peach and winter wheat. The simulation results of the CROPWAT model illustrated that crop water requirement for apple was highest (993 mm), followed by peach (908 mm), tomato (470 mm), potato (443 mm) and wheat (294 mm). The study reveals that fruit crops have more crop water requirements than cereals. The results of the GANetXL show that when the cropped area and water allocated was varied between extreme values, 23% of water can be saved. The total benefit from the study area can be enhanced by USD 34 ha−¹ and can be helpful in improving the economic conditions of the farmers. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Le modèle de simulation CROPWAT a été utilisé pour l'estimation quantitative et temporelle des besoins en eau des cultures. L'algorithme évolutionnaire (GANetXL) a été utilisé pour la planification optimale de la répartition des cultures, la maximisation des bénéfices nets et la minimisation des besoins en eau d'irrigation pour la zone d'étude du bassin versant de Holeta, en Ethiopie. La zone d'étude englobe trois mailles hydraulique, à savoir les fermes A et B et la ferme d'Etat de Tsedey; cinq cultures différentes ont été considérées: pommes de terre, tomate, pomme, pêche et blé d'hiver. Les résultats des simulations du modèle CROPWAT ont montré que les besoins en eau des cultures les plus élevés étaient ceux de la pomme (989 mm), puis ceux de la pêche (912 mm), de la tomate (469 mm), des pommes de terre (443 mm) et du blé (293 mm). L'étude confirme ainsi que les besoins en eau de l'arboriculture sont supérieurs à ceux de la céréaliculture. Les résultats de l'GANetXL montrent qu'en faisant varier la superficie cultivée et l'eau allouée entre deux valeurs extrêmes, il existe un optimum qui permet d'économiser 23% de l'eau d'irrigation et d'améliorer la marge nette de la zone d'études de USD 34 ha−¹, améliorant ainsi la condition économique des agriculteurs. Abstract:Optimization of irrigation water is an important issue in agricultural production for maximizing the return from the limited water availability. The current study proposes a simulation–optimization framework for developing optimal irrigation schedules for rice crop (Oryza sativa) under water deficit conditions. The framework utilizes a rice crop growth simulation model to identify the critical periods of growth that are highly sensitive to the reduction in final crop yield, and a genetic algorithm based optimizer develops the optimal water allocations during the crop growing period. The model ORYZA2000, which is employed as the crop growth simulation model, is calibrated and validated using field experimental data prior to incorporating in the proposed framework. The proposed framework was applied to a real world case study of a command area in southern India, and it was found that significant improvement in total yield can be achieved by the model compared to other water saving irrigation methods. The results of the study were highly encouraging and suggest that by employing a calibrated crop growth model combined with an optimization algorithm can lead to achieve maximum water use efficiency.

Abstract:We present an innovative approach to explore water management options in irrigated agriculture considering the constraints of water availability and the heterogeneity of irrigation system properties. The method is two-folds: (i) system characterization using a stochastic data assimilation procedure where the irrigation system properties and operational management practices are estimated using remote sensing (RS) data; and (ii) water management optimization where we explored water management options under various levels of water availability. We set up a soil–water–atmosphere–plant model (SWAP) in a deterministic–stochastic mode for regional modeling. The distributed data, e.g. sowing dates, irrigation practices, soil properties, depth to groundwater and water quality, required as inputs for the regional modeling were estimated by minimizing the residuals between the distributions of field-scale evapotranspiration (ET) simulated by the regional application of SWAP, and by surface energy balance algorithm for land (SEBAL) using two Landsat7 ETM+ images. The derived distributed data were used as inputs in exploring water management options. Genetic algorithm was used in data assimilation and water management optimizations. The case study was conducted in Bata minor (lateral canal), Kaithal, Haryana, India during 2000–2001 rabi (dry) season. Our results showed that under limited water condition, regional wheat yield could improve further if water and crop management practices are considered simultaneously and not independently. Adjusting sowing dates and their distribution in the irrigated area could improve the regional yield, which also complements the practice of deficit irrigation when water availability is largely a constraint. This result was also found in agreement with the scenario that water is non-limited with the exception that the farmers have more degrees of freedom in their agricultural activities. An improvement of the regional yield to 8.5% is expected under the current scenario.

Abstract:This study aimed to determine the optimal conjunctive utilization of groundwater and surface water resources in the Halil River basin, one of the most significant study regions in Kerman Province (Iran). Multi-verse optimizer (MVO) and the ANFIS (adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems) simulation model, known as the MVO–ANFIS simulation–optimization model, were used for this purpose. Moreover, the optimal exploitation policy for the studied basin was presented. The ANFIS model yielded a coefficient of determination greater than 0.99 in Baft, Rabor, and Jiroft.This model had a high capability to simulate groundwater levels in these three regions. Therefore, the ANFIS model was adopted as the simulation model to predict the aquifer water table in these regions. Regarding the conjunctive utilization of groundwater and surface water resources, the exploitation policy resulting from the MVO–ANFIS simulation–optimization model had a desirable performance by supplying 91.70, 87.75, and 97.58% of the total demands of Baft, Rabor, and Jiroft, respectively. Moreover, results of water system performance indicators, including reliability (82.96, 72.65, 95.07), resiliency (70, 53.47, 80), vulnerability (29.54, 25.64, 17.02), and sustainability (74.24%, 66.10%, 85.78%) in the mentioned regions, respectively, showed the appropriate performance of the proposed model for the simulation–optimization problem.

Abstract:In arid and semi-arid areas where agriculture competes keenly with ecosystem for water, integrated management of both surface water (SW) and groundwater (GW) resources at a basin scale is crucial, but often lacks scientific support. This study implemented physically-based, fully integrated SW-GW modeling in optimizing water management, and performed surrogate modeling to replace the computationally expensive model with simple response surfaces. Water use conflicts between agriculture and ecosystem in Heihe River Basin (HRB), the second largest inland river basin in China, were investigated. Based on the integrated model GSFLOW (Coupled Ground-Water and Surface-Water Flow Model), the conjunctive use of SW and GW for irrigation in the study area was optimized using a surrogate-based approach named DYCORS (Dynamic COordinate search using Response Surface models). Overall, the study demonstrated that, with the surrogate modeling approach, an expensive integrated model could be efficiently incorporated into an optimization analysis, and the integrated modeling would make feasible a physically based interpretation of the optimization results. In the HRB case study, the surrogate-based optimization suggested a very different time schedule of water diversion in opposite to the existing one, indicating the critical role of SW-GW interactions in the water cycle. With the temporal optimization, a basin-scale water saving could be achieved by reducing non-beneficial evapotranspiration. In addition, the current flow regulation in HRB may not be sustainable, because the ecosystem recovery in the lower HRB would be at the cost of the ecosystem degradation in the middle HRB. A multi-objective mathematical model of a water management problem with environmental impacts: An application in an irrigation project

Abstract:The study proposes applying an efficient but straightforward multi-objective constrained optimization model for optimal water allocation among irrigation and environmental sectors. The model has been implemented in the Muhuri Irrigation Project (MIP), Bangladesh, where the irrigation systems lead to unjustifiable use of groundwater. This study explores how water can be optimised to increase agricultural production and sustain the local environment in the MIP. Hence, the paper has two objectives—to maximise the net return and minimise the deficit in environmental flow. The study uses a Non-Dominating Sorting Genetic Algorithm, NSGA-II, to solve the research problem. Results indicate that crops more profitable to trade should be cultivated. Furthermore, the rainfall has more impact on the net return and environmental flow deficit than water inflow. The findings of this study can help plan irrigation water and cropland resources and be a reference for further studies.

Abstract:Many water resources optimization problems involve conflicting objectives which the main goal is to find a set of optimal solutions on, or near to, Pareto front. In this study a multi-objective water allocation model was developed for optimization of conjunctive use of surface water and groundwater resources to achieve sustainable supply of agricultural water. Here, the water resource allocation model is based on simulation-optimization (SO) modeling approach. Two surrogate models, namely an Artificial Neural Network model for groundwater level simulation and a Genetic Programming model for TDS concentration prediction were coupled with NSGA-II. The objective functions involved: 1) minimizing water shortage relative to the water demand, 2) minimizing the drawdown of groundwater level, and 3) minimizing the groundwater quality changes. According to the MSE and R2 criteria, the results showed that the surrogate models for prediction of groundwater level and TDS concentration performed favorably in comparison to the measured values at the number of observation wells. In Najaf Abad plain case study, the average drawdown was limited to 0.18 m and the average TDS concentration also decreased from 1257 mg/lit to 1229 mg/lit under optimal conditions.

Abstract:Indian agriculture relies on irrigation. India's net irrigated area has tripled in 60 years, although tank-irrigated regions suffered a large decline. This study examines the potential for improving tank irrigation performance through linear programming by developing individual optimal plans for two different tank irrigation systems (non-system and system tank) in the Chittoor and Srikakulam districts of Andhra Pradesh, India. The optimal plans under non-system tanks allocated less land under paddy while improving groundnut areas to optimally reorganize resources among head, middle, and tail ends. Net returns were maximized to ₹ 2.63, ₹ 2.52, and ₹ 1.92 lakhs. The system tank optimal plans advised less water-intensive crops like pulses and sesame over sugarcane with maximized net returns of ₹ 5.35, ₹ 2.61, and ₹ 1.71 lakhs. Both physical (kg/m3) and economic water productivity (₹/m3) were highest among optimal crop mix under non-system and system tank command farms. Participatory water management, adoption of less water-intensive crops, and promotion of pressurized technologies were highly recommended in the study area and similar agro-climatic conditions

Abstract:This paper develops a non-linear programming optimization model with an integrated soil water balance, to determine the optimal reservoir release policies, the irrigation allocation to multiple crops and the optimal cropping pattern in irrigated agriculture. Decision variables are the cultivated area and the water allocated to each crop. The objective function of the model maximizes the total farm income, which is based on crop–water production functions, production cost and crop prices. The proposed model is solved using the simulated annealing (SA) global optimization stochastic search algorithm in combination with the stochastic gradient descent algorithm. The rainfall, evapotranspiration and inflow are considered to be stochastic and the model is run for expected values of the above parameters corresponding to different probability of exceedence. By combining various probability levels of rainfall, evapotranspiration and inflow, four weather conditions are distinguished. The model takes into account an irrigation time interval in each growth stage and gives the optimal distribution of area, the water to each crop and the total farm income. The outputs of this model were compared with the results obtained from the model in which the only decision variables are cultivated areas. The model was applied on data from a planned reservoir on the Havrias River in Northern Greece, is sufficiently general and has great potential to be applicable as a decision support tool for cropping patterns of an irrigated area and irrigation scheduling.

Abstract:Agricultural production in arid and semi-arid area faces a global problem of water resources shortage and land salinization. Irrigation and drainage are the important measure to enhance crop yield and control soil salinity. Generally, at field scale only irrigation is optimized to pursue the higher water use efficiency and crop yield, while drainage is difficult to optimize owing to controlled by dynamic groundwater levels. Here, we develop a new collaborative optimization model of irrigation and drainage to improve irrigation water use efficiency and to control soil salinity. The model is formulated by integrating simulation of physical processes of field water - salt balance and a genetic algorithm-based optimization model. The new model is to search optimized irrigation and drainage strategic decision for enhancing field economic benefit with the condition controlling salinity with limited water resources. Then, a case study on optimally allocating irrigation and drainage water to different growth stages of maize field in the Hetao Irrigation District, arid area of northwest China shows enhanced applicability of the developed model. Five groundwater depth levels (1 m, 1.5 m, 2 m, 2.5 m and 3 m) and five groundwater salinity levels (2 g/L, 2.25 g/L, 2.5 g/L, 2.75 g/L and 3 g/L) are provided to show and compare the solutions of the optimal irrigation and drainage water allocation. Results indicate the developed model can supply reasonable field monthly irrigation and drainage decision with considering field hydrology, especially contribution of groundwater to crop water demand and groundwater role to soil salt accumulation. The contrary relationship between system benefit and irrigation water use efficiency was described successfully by the developed model. And compared with traditional single irrigation optimization model, the developed irrigation-drainage collaborative optimization model can enhance drainage function to keep the optimal groundwater levels and improve the system benefit by 0-8%. Overall, the developed model can provide more applicable irrigation water and drainage strategies to the sustainable development of irrigation agriculture.

Abstract:A monthly irrigation planning model is formulated for determining the optimal cropping pattern and the groundwater abstraction requirement in an existing groundwater development project. Two objectives, maximisation of net economic benefit and maximisation of irrigated area, aspired to by both the irrigation authority and the individual farmers in the Sukhothai Groundwater Development Project in Thailand are considered. To account for uncertainty in water resources availability, the model is solved for three levels of reliability of rainfall and groundwater resources (80, 50 and 20%). The effects of deficit irrigation on the net benefit and cropping intensity as well as on the yield of crops are also assessed by considering three levels (no deficit, 25% deficit and 50% deficit) of water application to the crops. To select the best alternative plan, a multi-objective analysis is carried out using the Analytic Hierarchy Process considering the preference of the decision makers, including farmers and irrigation project managers. The selected decision makers in the Sukhothai Project collectively allocate almost half of the total weight to reliability (or risk) factors, while the remaining preference is almost equally divided between the two objectives listed above. On average, they seem to prefer the planning alternative corresponding to average (hydrologic) conditions and full irrigation without any deficit.

Abstract:The spatially distributed AquaCrop-multiobjective robust possibilistic programming (distributed AquaCrop-MORPP) model that considers spatially-distributed land, soil and management features has been proposed for irrigation scheduling optimization under uncertain conditions. Compared with traditional simulation-optimization models, it improved the robustness of decision making by optimizing irrigation amounts and dates considering physical crop growth process and the spatial heterogeneity of soil, crop and irrigation. Additionally, it enhanced the AquaCrop-optimization model by handling uncertainties presented as fuzzy and stochastic variables. Moreover, it enhanced the applicability of multi-objective programming (MOP) by balancing contradictory relationships between the objectives of the net economic benefit and field water use efficiency, which were simulated and calculated by the spatially-distributed AquaCrop model. Fifty groups of optimal Pareto solutions were obtained by solving the spatially-distributed AquaCrop-MORPP model using a fast and elitist multi-objective genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) method. Subjective decision-making methods (e.g., Technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS) and prospect theory) were used to select specific alternatives from the Pareto solutions to provide recommendations for managers from different viewpoints. The alternatives that maximized field water use efficiency or net economic benefit separately were selected to cope with emergencies. To obtain optimal irrigation scheduling under future climate change, the RCP4.5 future climate scenario was integrated with the spatially-distributed AquaCrop-MORPP model. The model was verified by applying it to the Yingke Irrigation District (YID), Heihe River Basin (HRB), China. The results showed that the maximum field water use efficiency and net economic benefit in 2021 improved by 24% and 1.3% than those in 2012 for the alternative selected by TOPSIS method. The irrigation scheduling with varied irrigation dates improved by 3.7% and 5% than the irrigation scheduling with fixed irrigation dates for field water use efficiency and net economic benefit, separately. The study provides a framework about how to build spatially-distributed crop simulation-optimization model with consideration of tradeoffs amid multiple objectives to optimize irrigation schedules, and how to select alternatives based on managers’ risk attitudes, and offer a series of Pareto solutions for managers.

Abstract:A multi-objective modeling platform consisting of the simulator-optimizer model_1th and optimizer model_2th was developed in this study. HEC-HMS was used for flood routing and artificial recharge and the multi-objective genetic algorithm(NSGA-II) was applied for the integrated use of water resources. Net profit, cropping pattern, irrigation consumption, and gross irrigation demand for an aquifer were optimized using NSGA-II. The objective functions of 1th-model include minimizing the lack of supply and maximizing the volume of penetration in the artificial recharge system and the objective functions of 2th_model include maximizing net profit and minimizing agricultural water consumption. The total volume of optimal recharge increased by 70 MCM and the total volume of available water decreased by 29%. In addition, results have shown the cropland area, water consumption, and optimal water demand were reduced by 20, 50, and 20%, respectively. The results confirm the multi-objective modeling is very effective in achieving the research objectives.

Sustainable Energy Technologies and Assessments

Abstract:Water management system and energy optimization are most important for today’s agriculture. Precision irrigation manages the water utilization and reduces the utilization of energy. The irrigation system consists of observation system, storing, processing and it helps in decision making as well. Internet of Things (IoT) components is used to observe the various information’s, such as soil moisture, soil temperature, weather conditions, and environmental conditions from the fields. With the help of various information, the proposed work optimizes the requirements and thus reduces energy. The cloud environment is used to store the observed parameters from the IoT components. The machine learning algorithm is useful in taking the process of data, from the cloud environments, and do forecasting on the irrigation system. In this work, proposed a hybrid model for irrigation system and do the decision making using, different observation of parameters. This work consists of K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Gradient Boosting-based Tree (GBT), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and Spearman's rank correlation. The KNN is used to gather the nearest sensing information, with the help of various parameters. The GBT is used to predict the real values based on the observations. The LSTM is used to predict, time series prediction using different observations of the surrounding. The Spearman's rank correlation is used to receive the correlated values of real, and time series prediction. Using the GBT, LSTM and spearman rank correlation, the consolidated time series forecasting values are predicted in irrigation. The implementation of proposed work is done with the help of banana species in the time period, between Feb 2020, Dec 2020 and 2021. The duration of the cultivation, minimum and maximum water requirements and other supporting parameters are calculated using various sensors. The real and time series water requirements are calculated in the time interval of 12, 24, 36 and 48 etc. With the help of this time series data, month-wise prediction is performed. The implementations were performed in single and group of banana tree water requirements. After implementation of proposed work, for single banana tree 31.4 % of the water requirement has been optimized in 2020 time period. Due to this optimized irrigation, heavy usage of fresh water usage and energy wastage is also reduced.

Abstract:Aiming at the optimal allocation of irrigation water in multi-water source project in water resource shortage area, this study developed a water resource joint scheduling optimization model for the reservoir and the pumping station under deficit irrigation conditions. In the model, the maximum annual yield of the irrigation area was the objective function; the water supply, water spill of the reservoir and replenishment water of the pump station at each stage as the decision variables; and the total annual water supply of the system, the reservoir operation criteria, the water rights of the pump station, and the water demand of the crop during the entire growth period were the constraint conditions. According to the characteristics of the model, a large system decomposition aggregation dynamic programming (DADP) method is proposed to transform N + 1 dimensional dynamic programming problem into N + 1 one-dimensional dynamic programming problem for solution. In addition, this study also uses real-coded genetic algorithm (RGA) and DADP to compare the algorithms, and discusses the performance of the two algorithms from the optimization of the algorithm and the applicability of the algorithm.
