Abstract:Background: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have been associated with poorer health from childhood into adulthood. There has been limited prior research examining the associations between positive childhood experiences (PCEs) and health among children. Objective: The present study examines the association between PCES and child health, controlling for ACE counts, using a nationally representative sample. Participants and setting: : The data for this study came from the 2019-2020 National Survey of Children's Health and were limited to children six years of age or older with complete demographic information and information on ACEs, PCEs, and child health (n = 46,913). Methods: Bivariate analyses between PCEs, ACEs, child/adolescent characteristics, or caregiver's characteristics and child/adolescent health were examined using Pearson's Chi-square tests, weighted to produce nationally representative distributions. Multivariable regression models were used to examine the association between selected PCEs and good health, controlling for whether a child had two or more ACEs. Results: In adjusted analyses, children who experienced any of the following PCEs had a higher odds of good health, compared to children who did not experience each type of these PCEs: after school activities (aOR 1.85; 95% CI 1.11-3.09), resilient family (aOR 2.22; 95% CI 1.45-3.41), supportive neighborhood (aOR 1.56; 95% CI 1.01-2.41), and connected caregiver (aOR 1.84; 95% CI 1.22-2.77). Conclusions: Examining and understanding PCEs and how they are associated with child health is a unique opportunity to guide more targeted policies and intervention efforts. Efforts to provide PCEs in schools, homes, and communities may help to reduce health inequities early in childhood.

Abstract:A conventional power converter used in an HVDC system needs line voltage to turn off the current flowing through a thyristor. Hence a HVDC system has some difficulties to operate with a weak AC system. Moreover, a HVDC system cannot supply electric power into a system which has no AC source. The recent development of high power and high frequency semiconductor devices with fast gate turn-off abilities suggests the application of a voltage source type forced commutation (VSFC) power converter to a static VAr compensator (SVC). This paper shows, by computer simulation, that the installation of VSFC-SVC can improve the performance of HVDC systems remarkably.<<ETX>>

Abstract:Public Health Reports, Ahead of Print. Childhood psychosocial experiences can have a lifelong effect on health. These experiences can be measured together as positive and adverse childhood experiences or individually as positive childhood experiences (PCEs) or adverse childhood experiences. Most research on PCEs has focused on how PCEs promote health outcomes. However, limited research has been conducted on the prevalence of PCEs among adolescents in local areas served by public health departments. The St. Joseph County Department of Health developed a study to test the feasibility of surveillance of PCEs through local public health departments and to establish a prevalence for PCE exposure among a population of urban public-school students in Indiana. We conducted a survey in spring 2022 that collected demographic information on students at 2 high schools and 1 middle school and assessed exposure to PCEs. We assessed prevalence of PCEs on a 5-point Likert scale (0 = never, 1 = rarely, 2 = sometimes, 3 = usually, 4 = always). PCE scores were grouped into low (0-2), medium (3-5), and high (6 or 7). The prevalence of individual PCE items ranged from 35.6% to 86.8%. Among 798 respondents, 189 (23.7%) reported low PCE scores, 396 (49.6%) reported medium scores, and 213 (26.7%) reported high scores. This research demonstrates the feasibility of school-based PCE surveillance and establishes a baseline prevalence of PCE exposure among a population of middle and high school students. These methods are applicable to different contexts and can provide both local health departments and school systems with a new tool to address adverse childhood experiences.

Positive Childhood Experiences and Adult Mental and Relational Health in a Statewide Sample: Associations Across Adverse Childhood Experiences Levels

Abstract:Importance: Associations between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and risks for adult depression, poor mental health, and insufficient social and emotional support have been documented. Less is known about how positive childhood experiences (PCEs) co-occur with and may modulate the effect of ACEs on adult mental and relational health. Objective: To evaluate associations between adult-reported PCEs and (1) adult depression and/or poor mental health (D/PMH) and (2) adult-reported social and emotional support (ARSES) across ACEs exposure levels. Design, setting, and participants: Data were from the cross-sectional 2015 Wisconsin Behavioral Risk Factor Survey, a random digit-dial telephone survey of noninstitutionalized Wisconsin adults 18 years and older (n = 6188). Data were weighted to be representative of the entire population of Wisconsin adults in 2015. Data were analyzed between September 2016 and January 2019. Main outcomes and measures: The definition of D/PMH includes adults with a depression diagnosis (ever) and/or 14 or more poor mental health days in the past month. The definition of PCEs includes 7 positive interpersonal experiences with family, friends, and in school/the community. Standard Behavioral Risk Factor Survey ACEs and ARSES variables were used. Results: In the 2015 Wisconsin Behavioral Risk Factor Survey sample of adults (50.7% women; 84.9% white), the adjusted odds of D/PMH were 72% lower (OR, 0.28; 95% CI, 0.21-0.39) for adults reporting 6 to 7 vs 0 to 2 PCEs (12.6% vs 48.2%). Odds were 50% lower (OR, 0.50; 95% CI, 0.36-0.69) for those reporting 3 to 5 vs 0 to 2 PCEs (25.1% vs 48.2%). Associations were similar in magnitude for adults reporting 1, 2 to 3, or 4 to 8 ACEs. The adjusted odds that adults reported "always" on the ARSES variable were 3.53 times (95% CI, 2.60-4.80) greater for adults with 6 to 7 vs 0 to 2 PCEs. Associations for 3 to 5 PCEs were not significant. The PCE associations with D/PMH remained stable across each ACEs exposure level when controlling for ARSES. Conclusions and relevance: Positive childhood experiences show dose-response associations with D/PMH and ARSES after accounting for exposure to ACEs. The proactive promotion of PCEs for children may reduce risk for adult D/PMH and promote adult relational health. Joint assessment of PCEs and ACEs may better target needs and interventions and enable a focus on building strengths to promote well-being. Findings support prioritizing possibilities to foster safe, stable nurturing relationships for children that consider the health outcomes of positive experiences.
Examining the influence of positive childhood experiences on childhood overweight and obesity using a national sample

Abstract:Positive childhood experiences (PCEs) promote healthy social development, improve overall wellness, and help to moderate and prevent exposure to adverse childhood experiences. There has been limited research examining the association between positive childhood experiences and overweight or obesity status in children. The purpose of this study was to examine whether experiencing positive childhood experiences are associated with lower rates of overweight or obesity status in children between 10 and 17 years of age, using cross-sectional data from the 2018-2019 National Survey of Children's Health (n = 28,771), a nationally representative mail and online survey. Frequencies, proportions, and unadjusted associations for each variable were calculated using descriptive statistics and bivariate analyses. To examine the association between overweight or obesity and PCEs, multivariable regression models were used. Compared to children who were underweight or had a healthy weight, children who were overweight or obese were less likely to: participate after school activities (78.1%, p < 0.0001), volunteer in their community, school, or church (45.6%, p < 0.0001), have a mentor they feel comfortable going to for guidance (87.0%, p = 0.02), live in a safe neighborhood (61.3%, p < 0.0001), live in a supportive neighborhood (50.4%, p < 0.0001), and to live with a resilient family (78.3%; p = 0.0099). In adjusted analysis, among children exposed to two or more ACEs, children residing in a supportive neighborhood were less likely to be overweight or obese (aOR 0.87; 0.77-0.98). Our findings suggest that certain PCEs may mitigate overweight and obesity when children have experienced at least some childhood trauma.

Abstract:High levels of parenting stress, defined as a caregiver or parent feeling stress or aggravation from parenting, has been previously shown to be associated with an increased likelihood of neglect, child maltreatment, and household dysfunction: adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Despite the potential mitigation of positive childhood experiences (PCEs) on ACEs, prior studies on the increased likelihood of a child experiencing ACEs due to parenting stress have left a critical question unanswered: whether high parenting stress may decrease a child's likelihood of experiencing PCEs. We analyzed the 2019–2020 National Survey of Children's Health to examine whether higher levels of parenting stress are associated with the lower likelihood of experiencing PCEs among children. Children with caregivers experiencing high parenting stress had a lower odds of experiencing many types of PCEs, including after school activities (aOR 0.48; 95% CI 0.38–0.57), community volunteer (aOR 0.63; 95% CI 0.52–0.77), and guiding mentor (aOR 0.65; 95% CI 0.50–0.85). Lowering parenting stress through economic supports and parenting programs/interventions could increase the likelihood that a child experiences PCEs.

Abstract:Objectives To investigate the independent impacts of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and positive childhood experiences (PCEs) on the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of Chinese adolescents, and to explore the potential moderating role of PCEs in the association between ACEs and HRQOL. Study design This was a cross-sectional study. Methods We surveyed 6982 students aged 11–20 in Guangzhou, China, from November to December 2021. Adolescents self-reported their ACEs, PCEs, and HRQOL by the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire Short Form, the Adverse Childhood Experiences-International Questionnaire, the Benevolent Childhood Experiences Scale, and the Paediatric Quality of Life Inventory Version 4.0, respectively. Multivariable linear regressions were performed to examine the associations between ACEs, PCEs, and HRQOL controlled for adolescents' age, gender, single-child status, boarding school attendance, primary caregivers, as well as parental age and occupational status. Likelihood-ratio tests were further applied to explore the moderating role of PCEs. Results In the models that considered both ACEs and PCEs, ACEs were significantly associated with lower HRQOL scores in all dimensions, summary scales, and total scale ( β = −13.88, 95% confidence interval [CI]: −14.82, −12.94 for total scale). Conversely, exposure to an above-average number of PCEs was associated with higher HRQOL scores in all measured aspects ( β = 7.20, 95%CI: 6.57, 7.84 for total scale). PCEs significantly moderated the association between ACEs and all HRQOL dimensions, summary scales, and total scale, except school functioning. Conclusion ACEs and PCEs exert independent and opposite impacts on adolescents' HRQOL. PCEs could mitigate the negative impacts of ACEs. Enhancing resilience, like PCEs, may contribute to improving the HRQOL among adolescents who have exposed to ACEs.

Abstract:Abstract Background The objective of the study was to determine the association between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and positive childhood experiences (PCEs) with family health in adulthood. Prior research indicates that ACEs and PCEs affect individual physical and mental health in adulthood. However, little is known about how ACEs and PCEs affect family health. Families develop and function through patterns and routines which are often intergenerational. Therefore, a person’s early experiences may influence their family’s health in adulthood. Method A survey was administered to 1030 adults through Qualtrics, with participants recruited using quota-sampling to reflect the demographic characteristics of U.S. adults. Participants completed a survey about their childhood experiences, four domains of family health (family social and emotional health processes, family healthy lifestyle, family health resources, and family external social supports), and demographic characteristics. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results After controlling for marriage, education, gender, race and age, ACEs were negatively associated with family social and emotional health processes and family health resources when accounting for PCEs; PCEs were positively associated with all four family health domains irrespective of ACEs. Conclusion Childhood experiences affect family health in adulthood in the expected direction. Even in the presence of early adversity, positive experiences in childhood can provide a foundation for creating better family health in adulthood.

Abstract:Background As cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death worldwide, more research is needed on the psychosocial factors that can reduce CVD risk across development. One cross-sectional study demonstrated that retrospectively-reported positive childhood experiences (PCEs) are associated with lower CVD risk in adulthood (Slopen et al., 2017). The current study extends this research by examining prospective associations between PCEs assessed during adolescence and CVD risk in young adulthood. Method The current analyses used data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health, a nationally representative sample of adolescents followed into adulthood. The analytic sample (N= 13,567; 53% female) included participants who completed in-home interviews at Wave 1 (M age= 16.07, SD= 1.69) and Wave 4 (M age = 28.95, SD= 1.72). PCEs were assessed via 14 items in Wave 1, as adapted from the Benevolent Childhood Experiences scale-Revised (Narayan et al., 2018; e.g., whether individuals feel safe in their neighborhood or feel socially accepted). A 30-year CVD risk score was calculated in Wave 4 using a Framingham-based prediction model (Pencina et al., 2009). Covariates included gender, race/ethnicity, age at outcome, and childhood maltreatment (measured via retrospective reports of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse). Results Linear regression analyses indicate that higher PCEs predicted lower CVD risk, even after controlling for covariates (β= -.047, p <.001). Conclusion Findings from these analyses highlight the importance of assessing and screening for PCEs. Future prevention efforts may focus on increasing PCEs to reduce adult CVD risk.

Abstract:Background While adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) predict poorer mental health across the life course, positive childhood experiences (PCEs) predict better mental health. It is unclear whether PCEs protect against poor mental health outcomes and promote mental well-being in pandemic-era adolescents with ACEs. Methods We examined the individual and joint contributions of ACEs and PCEs to mental health and well-being (MHW) in eleventh-grade British Columbian adolescents ( N = 8864) during the fifth wave of COVID-19. We used a novel measure of ACEs that included community- and societal-level ACEs in addition to ACEs experienced at home to investigate the role of social and structural determinants of mental health in supporting the MHW of pandemic-era adolescents. A series of two-way ANCOVAs were conducted comparing MHW outcomes between adolescents with and without ACEs. Interaction effects were examined to investigate whether PCEs moderated the association between ACEs and MHW. Results Adolescents with no ACEs had significantly better MHW than those with one or more ACE. Having six or more PCEs was associated with better MHW in adolescents with and without ACEs. PCEs significantly moderated the association between ACEs and depression. Effect sizes were larger for PCEs than ACEs in relation to depression, mental well-being, and life satisfaction. Conclusions PCEs may protect against depression among adolescents with ACEs and promote MHW among all pandemic-era adolescents. These findings emphasize the importance of addressing social determinants of mental health to mitigate the impact of ACEs and promote PCEs as part of a public health approach to MHW.

Abstract:Introduction: Children with callous-unemotional (CU) traits are at high lifetime risk of antisocial behaviour. Low affiliation (ie, social bonding difficulties) and fearlessness (ie, low threat sensitivity) are proposed risk factors for CU traits. Parenting practices (eg, harshness and low warmth) also predict risk for CU traits. However, few studies in early childhood have identified attentional or physiological markers of low affiliation and fearlessness. Moreover, no studies have tested whether parenting practices are underpinned by low affiliation or fearlessness shared by parents, which could further shape parent-child interactions and exacerbate risk for CU traits. Addressing these questions will inform knowledge of how CU traits develop and isolate novel parent and child targets for future specialised treatments for CU traits. Methods and analysis: The Promoting Empathy and Affiliation in Relationships (PEAR) study aims to establish risk factors for CU traits in children aged 3-6 years. The PEAR study will recruit 500 parent-child dyads from two metropolitan areas of the USA. Parents and children will complete questionnaires, computer tasks and observational assessments, alongside collection of eye-tracking and physiological data, when children are aged 3-4 (time 1) and 5-6 (time 2) years. The moderating roles of child sex, race and ethnicity, family and neighbourhood disadvantage, and parental psychopathology will also be assessed. Study aims will be addressed using structural equation modelling, which will allow for flexible characterisation of low affiliation, fearlessness and parenting practices as risk factors for CU traits across multiple domains. Ethics and dissemination: Ethical approval was granted by Boston University (#6158E) and the University of Pennsylvania (#850638). Results will be disseminated through conferences and open-access publications. All study and task materials will be made freely available on lab websites and through the Open Science Framework (OSF).
Negative Pressure Wound Therapy for a Giant Wound Secondary to Malignancy-induced Necrotizing Fasciitis: Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Abstract:BACKGROUND Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a life-threatening condition in which rapid diagnosis, debridement of nonviable tissue, and broad-spectrum antibiotics are critical to effective treatment. The debridement required can be extensive, resulting in large wounds that can sometimes be covered with split-thickness skin grafts (STSGs) with the help of negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), or vacuum-assisted closure, to decrease the wound size. CASE REPORT The authors report a rare case of NF due to malignancy-associated bowel perforation with a giant lower extremity wound secondary to debridement that involved 20% of the total body surface area (TBSA) in a 64-year-old, previously healthy, nonsmoking man. The wound was surgically debrided twice and packed before NPWT was applied. Based on the authors' literature search, this case is 1 of the single largest wounds successfully managed with a STSG and NPWT. CONCLUSIONS Rapid diagnosis of NF is critical to guide surgical management and administration of antibiotics. It is important to be mindful of the origin of certain necrotizing infections, and clinicians should have a greater index of suspicion for NF when assessing skin infections in unwell patients with concomitant bowel perforation secondary to gastrointestinal malignancy.

The impact of positive and adverse childhood experiences on social connectedness in young adults

Abstract:Establishing and maintaining social relationships is a critical developmental milestone for adolescents and young adults and can be disrupted by childhood adversities. Adverse and positive childhood experiences (ACEs and PCEs, respectively) represent independent, yet critical, domains that support the exploration of positive and adverse childhood experiences (PACEs) as pathways to social connection. Recent research has examined the impact of COVID-19 on child development. The current study expands on existing research by examining the effects that PACEs clusters and high school enrollment during COVID-19 had on social connectedness. Young adults (N = 211; Mage = 20.97 years, SD = 2.14) completed an online survey examining social functioning and childhood experiences. Two measures comprised PACEs: Benevolent Childhood Experiences (BCEs) scale and Adverse Childhood Experiences questionnaire. An adapted Berkman-Syme Social Network Index measured social connection. High school enrollment during COVID-19 was determined by graduation year. Cluster analyses identified three PACEs profiles: (1) high BCEs/low ACEs (74.9%), (2) moderate BCEs/high ACEs (14.7%), and (3) low BCEs/moderate ACEs (10.4%). Regression analyses showed that High Risk/High Protection (β = -3.326, p = .001) and Moderate Risk/Moderate Protection (β = -4.845, p < .001) profiles had significantly fewer social connections than the Low Risk/High Protection profile. High school enrollment at the COVID-19 onset did not predict social connection (β = 0.067, p = .305). Implications include clinicians considering PACEs when forming a holistic view of clients and integrating positive contexts into adversity research.
Adverse and Protective Childhood Experiences and Parenting Attitudes: the Role of Cumulative Protection in Understanding Resilience

Abstract:Theory and research indicate that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are linked to negative parenting attitudes and behaviors. We posit that protective and compensatory experiences (PACEs) in childhood buffer the negative effects of ACEs on later parenting. To test this premise, the present study examined associations between ACEs, PACEs, and attitudes towards nurturing and harsh parenting in an ethnically diverse sample of parents with children of various ages (N = 109; 65% mothers, 35% fathers; M age = 38). Parents completed a widely used parenting attitudes questionnaire and the ACEs and PACEs surveys. PACEs were negatively correlated with ACEs and positively correlated with nurturing parenting attitudes and parent income and education levels. Linear regression models indicate that higher PACEs, ACEs, and family income and less harsh parenting attitudes predict nurturing parenting attitudes. In contrast, higher ACEs and less nurturing attitudes were correlated with harsh parenting attitudes. As expected, moderation analyses indicated that the association between ACEs and harsh parenting attitudes was conditional upon the level of PACEs. When PACE scores were low (M – 1 SD), but not when PACE scores were average or high (M + 1 SD), ACEs were associated with harsh parenting attitudes, suggesting a buffering effect of PACEs on negative parenting attitudes. These findings support the importance of including protective as well as adverse childhood experiences when assessing the role of childhood experiences on parenting attitudes and practices. Implications of these findings for researchers and practitioners are discussed, as well as new directions for PACEs research using a cumulative protection approach.
The Impact of Positive and Adverse Experiences in Adolescence on Health and Wellbeing Outcomes in Early Adulthood

Abstract:This study evaluated the associations between positive and adverse experiences and environments in adolescence and health, education and employment outcomes in early adulthood. Data were extracted from the Longitudinal Studies of Australian Youth cohort that commenced in 2003. The items were conceptually mapped to Positive and Adverse Youth Experiences and environments (PYEs and AYEs) at 15, 16 and 17 years old and outcomes at 25 years old. The associations between PYEs, AYEs and general health, mental health, education and employment were examined, including testing whether PYEs mitigated the association between AYEs and outcomes. A higher number of AYEs was associated with poorer health, education, and employment outcomes. Conversely, a higher number of PYEs was correlated with positive outcomes. The participants with higher PYEs had significantly greater odds of better general and mental health outcomes, even after accounting for AYEs. This relationship was not observed for employment or education outcomes. Adolescence and the transition to adulthood are critical developmental stages. Reducing adverse experiences and environments and increasing positive ones during adolescence could enhance adult wellbeing.

Abstract:Objective Although adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are associated with poor health in adulthood, positive childhood experiences (PCEs) can reduce the risk of negative health outcomes. This study aimed to investigate whether PCEs in the community (CPCEs, ie, trusted adults other than parents, supportive friends, belongingness to school, or community traditions) would have an independent effect on better health outcomes and moderate the association between ACEs and adult illnesses. Design Cross-sectional survey. Setting Data were gathered from a nationwide, cross-sectional internet survey conducted in Japan in 2022. Participants This study included 28 617 Japanese adults aged 18–82 years (51.1% female; mean age=48.1 years). Primary and secondary outcome measures The associations among self-reported ACEs, CPCEs before the age of 18 years and current chronic diseases (eg, cancer and depression) were investigated using multivariable logistic regression models. Results CPCEs were associated with lower odds of adult diseases (such as stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic pain, depression, suicidal ideation and severe psychological distress) after adjusting for ACEs. More CPCEs weakened the association between ACEs and adult diseases. Specifically, among those with ACEs, ≥3 CPCEs (vs 0–2 CPCEs) lowered the adjusted prevalence by ≥50% for stroke (2.4% to 1.2%), COPD (2.2% to 0.7%) and severe psychological distress (16.4% to 7.4%). Conclusion CPCEs could reduce ACE-related risk of poor physical and mental health in later life. Early-life interventions that enhance PCEs in schools and/or neighbourhoods are recommended.

Abstract:Purpose: "Positive epidemiology" emphasizes strengths and assets that protect the health of populations. Positive mental health refers to a range of social and emotional capabilities that may support adaptation to challenging circumstances. We examine the role of positive mental health in promoting adolescent health during the crisis phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: We used four long-running Australian and UK longitudinal cohorts: Childhood to Adolescence Transition Study (CATS; analyzed N = 809; Australia); Longitudinal Study of Australian Children (LSAC) - Baby (analyzed N =1,534) and Kindergarten (analyzed N = 1,300) cohorts; Millennium Cohort Study (MCS; analyzed N = 2,490; United Kingdom). Measures included prepandemic exposure: positive mental health (parent reported, 13-15 years) including regulating emotions, interacting well with peers, and caring for others; and pandemic outcomes: psychological distress, life satisfaction, and sleep and alcohol use outside of recommendations (16-21 years; 2020). We used a two-stage meta-analysis to estimate associations between positive mental health and outcomes across cohorts, accounting for potential confounders. Results: Estimates suggest meaningful effects of positive mental health on psychosocial outcomes during the pandemic, including lower risk of psychological distress (risk ratio [RR] = 0.83, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.71, 0.97) and higher life satisfaction (RR = 1.1, 95% CI = 1.0, 1.2). The estimated effects for health behaviors were smaller in magnitude (sleep: RR = 0.95, 95% CI = 0.86, 1.1; alcohol use: RR = 0.97, 95% CI = 0.85, 1.1). Conclusions: Our results are consistent with the hypothesis that adolescents' positive mental health supports better psychosocial outcomes during challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, but the relevance for health behaviors is less clear. These findings reinforce the value of extending evidence to include positive health states and assets.

Abstract:The study has evaluated in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro ontogenesis and functional significance of the arcuate nucleus neurons expressing either individual enzymes of dopamine synthesis, tyrosine hydroxylase or aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase as well as both of them (dopaminergic neurons) in rats from the 17th embryonic day to adulthood. Monoenzymatic tyrosine hydroxylase-containing neurons were initially observed on the 18th embryonic day. On the 20-21 day, the monoenzymatic tyrosine hydroxylase- or aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase-expressing neurons comprised more than 99% of the whole neuron population expressing the dopamine-synthesizing enzymes. The dopamine production in the fetus arcuate nucleus was sufficient to provide an inhibitory control of prolactin secretion like in adults. The data suggest a possibility of the dopamine synthesis in the fetus arcuate nucleus by the monoenzymatic neurons containing either tyrosine hydroxylase or aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase-expressing neurons in co-operation.
