Abstract:Fuzzy clustering is one of the most important fuzzy techniques. This paper adopts a relational degree as similarity measurement between objects, and thus forms relational clustering which may find wide applications in social systems and economic systems. At the same time, this paper presents a kind of recomposed fuzzy clustering which can be used to execute the task of partitioning and evaluation for a lot of objects in many systems effectively.

Abstract:We consider the problem where a set of individuals has to classify $m$ objects into $p$ categories and does so by aggregating the individual classifications. We show that if $m\geq 3$, $m\geq p\geq 2$, and classifications are fuzzy, that is, objects belong to a category to a certain degree, then an independent aggregator rule that satisfies a weak unanimity condition belongs to the family of Weighted Arithmetic Means. We also obtain characterization results for $m= p= 2$.

Abstract:Many authors discussed the interpolation mechanism of fuzzy logic system applied in control. The input and output of fuzzy control system are always restrained in (fuzzy) numbers-associated with fuzzification and defuzzification procedure. In artificial intelligence area we need use common fuzzy sets to represent vague and fuzzy concept. In this paper, we propose a "local relation mapping" theory, which is a corresponding result of interpolation mechanism of fuzzy logical system without fuzzification and defuzzification. This local relation mapping property holds in Mamdani algorithm (Max-Min fuzzy reasoning model). We find that each CRI fuzzy reasoning method based on the multi-valued logic implication operator has an approximate Mamdani algorithm. The fuzzy relation matrix of CRI fuzzy inference method based on the multivalued logic implication operator has an enveloping surface of Mamdani algorithm. So most CRI fuzzy reasoning methods have local relation mapping property approximately

Abstract:In this paper, we propose an assessment method of agreement between fuzzy sets, called fuzzy Kappa which is deduced from the concept of Cohen's Kappa statistic. In fuzzy case, the Cohen's Kappa coefficient can be calculated generally by transforming the fuzzy sets into some crisp α-cut subsets. While the proposed fuzzy Kappa allows to directly evaluate an overall agreement between two fuzzy sets. Hence, it is an efficient agreement measure between a given fuzzy “ground truth” or reference and a result of fuzzy classification or fuzzy segmentation. Based on membership function, we define its agreement function and its probability distribution to formulate the deduction of the expectation agreement. So the fuzzy Kappa is calculated from the proportion of the observed agreement and the agreement expected by chance. All the definitions and deductions are detailed in this paper. Both Cohen's Kappa and the fuzzy Kappa are then used to evaluate the agreement between a fuzzy classification of brain tissues on MRI images and its “ground truth”. A comparison of the two types of Kappa coefficient is carried out and shows the advantage of the fuzzy Kappa and some limitations of Cohen's Kappa in the fuzzy case.

Abstract:Since categories are graphs with additional "structure", one should start from fuzzy graphs in order to define a theory of fuzzy categories. Thus is makes sense to introduce categories whose morphisms are associated with a plausibility degree that determines to what extend it is possible to "go" from one object to another one. These categories are called {\em fuzzy categories}. Of course, the basic properties of these categories are similar but not identical to their ordinary counterparts. Thus, it is necessary to introduce notion like fuzzy commutative diagrams, fuzzy initial and fuzzy terminal objects, etc.

Secondly, we introduce several subcategories of (L, M)-QC, including the category (L, M)-KQC of (L, M)-fuzzy Kent Q-convergence spaces, the category (L, M)-LQC of (L, M)-fuzzy Q-limit spaces and the category (L, M)-PQC of (L, M)-fuzzy pretopological Q-convergence spaces, and investigate their relationships.

Abstract:This paper considers the problem of designing a questionnaire for categorization of subjects. In order to well-organize the categorical structures of subjects, co-cluster information is utilized based on two different co-clustering approaches under multi-view situations. A comparative experiment studies the characteristics of fuzzy co-clustering-based categorization, where all categories are simultaneously extracted in a batch process, and possibilistic partition-based categorization, where each co-cluster is independently extracted under each view of categories.

Abstract:To precisely allocate the massive old Product Design Knowledge Document (PDKD) and construct the knowledge base of product design, the PDKD categorization method based on decision tree and Support Vector Machine (SVM) was put forward. For the application of the PDKD categorization method, the preprocessing of sample data was obtained by word segmentation, characteristics extraction, characteristics combination and vector expression of the PDKD. In the categorization algorithm, multiple SVMs were constructed in turn with binary decision tree to categorize the sample data to improve the categorization processing efficiency. Then the last category was judged to avoid the former categorizer's misjudgment due to lack of trainings, thus the categorization processing accuracy was ensured. Finally, the validity of the categorization method was proved by the verification of the categorization evaluation theory. The feasibility and practicality of the above-mentioned method were approved by an application case of the enterprise information project.

Abstract:The blooming of the Internet information has made fast text categorization very essential. Generally, in order to accelerate the classification process, the classifier needs to be simplified as much as possible; however, the accuracy might descend drastically in that case, This paper proposes a novel approach to achieve a suitable tradeoff between the speed and accuracy. With category information fusion and basis orthogonality non-negative matrix factorization, the documents can be mapped from the term space to a semantic or class s-pace, and a simple and fast classification method in the class space is proposed. Furthermore a criterion for re-classifying in the semantic space is discussed. Finally, the collaborative work framework in the semantic and class spaces is implemented. Experiments in two benchmarks are presented, and the results are encouraging.
A fuzzy loss for ontology classification

Abstract:Deep learning models are often unaware of the inherent constraints of the task they are applied to. However, many downstream tasks require logical consistency. For ontology classification tasks, such constraints include subsumption and disjointness relations between classes. In order to increase the consistency of deep learning models, we propose a fuzzy loss that combines label-based loss with terms penalising subsumption- or disjointness-violations. Our evaluation on the ChEBI ontology shows that the fuzzy loss is able to decrease the number of consistency violations by several orders of magnitude without decreasing the classification performance. In addition, we use the fuzzy loss for unsupervised learning. We show that this can further improve consistency on data from a

Abstract:Currently, computational linguists and cognitive scientists working in the area of discourse and dialogue argue that their subjective judgments are reliable using several different statistics, none of which are easily interpretable or comparable to each other. Meanwhile, researchers in content analysis have already experienced the same difficulties and come up with a solution in the kappa statistic. We discuss what is wrong with reliability measures as they are currently used for discourse and dialogue work in computational linguistics and cognitive science, and argue that we would be better off as a field adopting techniques from content analysis.

Abstract:Associations reflect relationships among items in databases, and have been widely studied in the fields of knowledge discovery and data mining. Recent years have witnessed many efforts on discovering fuzzy associations, aimed at coping with fuzziness in knowledge representation and decision support processes. This chapter focuses on associations of three kinds: association rules, functional dependencies and pattern associations. Accordingly, it overviews major fuzzy logic extensions. Primary attention is paid (1) to frizzy association rules in dealing with partitioning quantitative data domains, crisp taxonomic belongings, and linguistically modified rules, (2) to various fuzzy mining measures from different perspectives such as interestingness, statistics and logic implication, (3) to fuzzy/partially satisfied functional dependencies for handling data closeness and noise tolerance, and (4) to time-series data patterns that are associated with partial degrees.

Abstract:Entity categorization - the process of grouping entities into categories for some specific purpose - is an important problem with a great many applications, such as Google Scholar and Amazon products. Unfortunately, in practice, many entities are mis-categorized. In this paper, we study the problem of discovering mis-categorized entities from a given group of entities. This problem is inherently hard: all entities within the same group have been "well" categorized by state-of-the-art solutions. Apparently, it is nontrivial to differentiate them. We propose a novel rule-based framework to solve this problem. It first uses positive rules to compute disjoint partitions of entities, where the partition with the largest size is taken as the correctly categorized partition, namely the pivot partition. It then uses negative rules to identify mis-categorized entities in other partitions that are dissimilar to the entities in the pivot partition. We describe optimizations on applying these rules, and discuss how to generate positive/negative rules. Extensive experimental results on two real-world datasets show the effectiveness of our solution.

Abstract:Fuzzy logic is a way to argue with boolean predicates for which we only have a confidence value between 0 and 1 rather than a well defined truth value. It is tempting to interpret such a confidence as a probability. We use Markov kernels, parametrised probability distributions, to do just that. As a consequence we get general fuzzy logic connectives from probabilistic computations on products of the booleans, stressing the importance of joint confidence functions. We discuss binary logic connectives in detail and recover the "classic" fuzzy connectives as bounds for the confidence for general connectives. We push multivariable logic formulas as far as being able to define fuzzy quantifiers and estimate the confidence.

Abstract:It is quite common that raters may need to classify a sample of subjects on a categorical scale. Perfect agreement can rarely be observed partly because of different perceptions about the meanings of the category labels between raters and partly because of factors such as intrarater variability. Usually, category indistinguishability occurs between adjacent categories. In this article, we propose a simple log-linear model combining ordinal scale information and category distinguishability between ordinal categories for modelling agreement between two raters. For the proposed model, no score assignment is required to the ordinal categories. An algorithm and statistical properties will be provided.
An Approach to Classification Based on Fuzzy Association Rules

Abstract:Classification based on association rules is considered to be effective and advantageous in many cases. However, the "sharp boundary" problem in association rules mining with numerical data may lead to semantics retortion of discovered rules, which may further disturb the understandability, even the accuracy of classification. This paper aims at proposing an associative classification approach, namely Fuzzy Association Rules Classification (FARC), where fuzzy logic is used in partitioning the domains of numerical data items, giving rise to fuzzy association rules for classification. In doing so, two measures, pseudo support and pseudo confidence, as well as the notion of minimal equivalence set (MESet), are introduced, along with extensions to the corresponding mining algorithms. The experimental results revealed that FARC generated fewer rules than the traditional CBA approach without loss of accuracy.

Abstract:Researches have suggested that fuzzy sets form a more appropriate basis for land cover mapping than traditional Boolean classification. However, to give a crisp answer of which land cover types pixels in remote sensing images belong to, fuzzy clustering methods such as FMC always lost some subtle vague information. In this paper, the result of the Boolean classification using a fuzzy clustering method was analyzed and based on the result of the classification, we tried to map land cover types as type 1 fuzzy sets and type 2 fuzzy sets. Results show that type 1 fuzzy sets and type 2 fuzzy sets kept more subtle information that was lost in the processing of converting the fuzzy classification result to a Boolean one. And the structure of the study area can be more explicit represented.
