Abstract:OBJECTIVES:To compare the predictive ability of six anthropometric indices for identification of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and to determine their optimal cut-off points among Chinese adults.METHODS:A total of 59,029 participants were enrolled. Body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), a body shape index (ABSI), body roundness index (BRI), and conicity index (CI) were measured. Receiver-operating characteristic curves analyses were performed to determine the discriminatory power of these indices for the identification of cardiometabolic risks and diagnosis of MetS. The differences in the area under the curve (AUC) values among the indices were evaluated. The Youden index was used to determine the optimal cut-off points.RESULTS:WHtR and BRI exhibited the highest AUC values for identifying MetS and most cardiometabolic risk factors in both sexes, whereas ABSI showed the lowest AUC value. The general optimal cut-off points in women were 23.03 kg/m2 for BMI, 77.25 cm for WC, 0.490 for WHtR, and 3.179 for BRI; those in men were 24.64 kg/m2 for BMI, 87.25 cm for WC, 0.510 for WHtR, and 3.547 for BRI. The AUC values and cut-off points of the indices were also analyzed in each age and BMI category.CONCLUSIONS:In Chinese adults, WHtR and BRI showed a superior predictive power for MetS in both sexes, which can be used as simple and effective screening tools for cardiometabolic risks and MetS in clinical practice.

Abstract:Abstract Background Conicity index, body-shape index, lipid accumulation product (LAP), waist circumference (WC), triglyceride, triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, hepatic steatosis index (HSI), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), TyG index-related parameters (TyG-WHtR, TyG-BMI, TyG-WC), body mass index (BMI), visceral adiposity index, triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio and body roundness index have been reported as reliable markers of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, there is debate about which of the above obesity and lipid-related indices has the best predictive performance for NAFLD risk. Methods This study included 6870 female and 7411 male subjects, and 15 obesity and lipid-related indices were measured and calculated. NAFLD was diagnosed by abdominal ultrasound. The area under the curve (AUC) of 15 obesity and lipid-related indices were calculated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. Results Among the 15 obesity and lipid-related indices, the TyG index-related parameters had the strongest association with NAFLD. ROC analysis showed that except for ABSI, the other 14 parameters had high predictive value in identifying NAFLD, especially in female and young subjects. Most notably, TyG index-related parameters performed better than other parameters in predicting NAFLD in most populations. In the female population, the AUC of TyG-WC for predicting NAFLD was 0.9045, TyG-BMI was 0.9084, and TyG-WHtR was 0.9071. In the male population, the AUC of TyG-WC was 0.8356, TyG-BMI was 0.8428, and TyG-WHtR was 0.8372. In addition, BMI showed good NAFLD prediction performance in most subgroups (AUC>0.8). Conclusions Our data suggest that TyG index-related parameters, LAP, HSI, BMI, and WC appear to be good predictors of NAFLD. Of these parameters, TyG index-related parameters showed the best predictive potential.

Analysis and Comparison of Different Obesity Evaluation Indices and Their Effects on Hypertension, Diabetes, and Dyslipidaemia

Abstract:Background: Standard measures that define obesity and related disorders varies widely, this study investigated the relationship between different anthropometric indices of obesity criteria and their correlation to hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidaemia in a local adult population in China.Methods: The study participants underwent the same questionnaire survey, bio-impedance body composition analysis, and blood laboratory test. The t-test and chi-square test were used to compare the characteristics of different groups, and the receiver operating characteristic curve was used to analyse the correlation of different indicators and explore their cut-off values.Results: The study comprised 14,926 participants, of whom 39.80% (5948/14,926) were male, and the mean age of the study population was 56.75±9.74 years. The waist circumference had the greatest influence on all factors, and BMI, AVI, and BRI were similarly correlated. WHtR had the largest AUC for predicting obesity in both sexes, and in addition, we provided a recommended cut-off value of BMI, WHR, WHtR, BAI, OBD, CI, AVI, ABSI and BRI. WHtR had the largest AUC for predicting diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidaemia, while BMI also served as a good predictive indicator (all P<0.001).Conclusions: Among the samples in this study, WHtR may be the best indicator for predicting obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidaemia, and AVI is a good indicator in Chinese adults specifically.

Abstract:Background: The prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) keeps increasing annually worldwide. Non-invasive assessment tools for evaluating the risk and severity of the disease are still limited. Insulin resistance (IR) and abdominal obesity (ABO) are closely related to NAFLD. Methods: A retrospective large-scale, population-based study was conducted based on the data from the 2017-2018 cycle of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Three ABO indices, namely lipid accumulation product (LAP), visceral obesity index (VAI), waist circumference-triglyceride index (WTI), and three IR indices, including triglyceride glucose index (TyG), homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and metabolic score for insulin resistance (METS-IR), were analyzed and compared for their relationships with NAFLD based on weighted multivariable logistic regression, spearman correlation heatmap, smooth curve fittings. The area under the curve (AUC) of receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the diagnostic capability of these indices for NAFLD. Differences among the AUCs were calculated and compared by Delong test. Results: In total, 3095 participants were included in our study among which 1368 adults were diagnosed with NAFLD. All six indices presented positive associations with NAFLD. There was a claw-shaped curve between HOMA-IR, VAI, LAP and NAFLD while a smooth semi-bell curve was observed in TyG, METS-IR and WTI. LAP and HOMA-IR had the best diagnostic capability for NAFLD (LAP: AUC = 0.8, Youden index = 0.48; HOMA-IR: AUC = 0.798, Youden index = 0.472) while VAI (AUC = 0.728, Youden index = 0.361) showed the lowest predictive value. The correlation heat map indicated positive correlations between all six indices and liver function, hepatic steatosis and fibrosis severity. In the NAFLD group, IR indicators presented a stronger association with alanine aminotransferase (ALT) compared with ABO indices. Conclusions: All six indices can screen NAFLD withLAP and HOMA-IR being possibly optimal predictors. IR indices may be more sensitive to identify acute hepatic injury in NAFLD patients than ABO indices.
External Validation and Comparison of Simple Tools to Screen for Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in Chinese Community Population

Abstract:Background Various noninvasive tools based on anthropometric indicators, blood lipids, and liver enzymes, etc. have been developed to screen for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), with different diagnostic performance and cutoff values among studies. We aimed to validate and compare eight NAFLD-related models developed by simple indicators and to define their cutoff values in Chinese community population. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in a health examination cohort of 3259 people. NAFLD was diagnosed by ultrasonography. General, anthropometric and biochemical data were collected. Fatty liver index (FLI), fatty liver disease index (FLD), Zhejiang University index (ZJU), lipid accumulation product (LAP), regression formula of controlled attenuation parameter (CAP), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), triglyceride and glucose index (TyG), and visceral adiposity index (VAI) were calculated. The accuracy and cutoff points to detect NAFLD were evaluated by area under the receiver operator characteristic curve and the maximum Youden index analysis, respectively. A head-to-head comparison between these models and Decision Curve Analysis (DCA) was conducted. Results In eight noninvasive diagnostic models of NAFLD, AUCs of FLI and FLD for NAFLD were higher than those of other models in the whole (0.852 and 0.852), male (0.826 and 0.824), and female (0.897 and 0.888) population, respectively. DCA showed that FLI, FLD, and ZJU have higher net benefit to screen for NAFLD compared to other models. Conclusions FLI and FLD could be the most accurate and applicable of eight models for the noninvasive diagnosis of NAFLD in both male and female groups.
Comparison of 10 obesity-related indices for predicting hypertension based on ROC analysis in Chinese adults

Abstract:Objective: To compare the predictive performance of the percentage body fat (PBF), body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), hip circumference (HC), waist-hip ratio (WHR), waist-height ratio (WHtR), a body shape index (ABSI), body roundness index (BRI), abdominal volume index (AVI), and conicity index (CI) for identifying hypertension. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 2,801 adults (1,499 men and 1,302 women) aged 18 to 81 in Ningbo, China. The receiver operator characteristic (ROC) analysis and multiple non-parametric Z tests were used to compare the areas under the curve (AUC). The maximum Youden's indices were used to determine the optimal cut-off points of 10 obesity-related indices (ORI) for hypertension risk. Results: The AUC of all the indices were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The AUC of all the indices in men and women were 0.67-0.73 and 0.72-0.79, respectively. Further non-parametric Z tests showed that WHR had the highest AUC values in both men [0.73 (95% CI: 0.70, 0.76)] and women (0.79 (95% CI: 0.75, 0.83)], and several central ORI (men: WHR, WC, BRI, AVI, and CI, 0.71-0.73; women: WC, WHR, and AVI, 0.77-0.79) were higher than general ORI (PBF and BMI, 0.68 in men; 0.72-0.75 in women), with adjusted P < 0.05. The optimal cut-off points for identifying hypertension in men and women were as follows: PBF (23.55%, 32.55%), BMI (25.72 kg/m2, 23.46 kg/m2), HC (97.59 cm, 94.82 cm), WC (90.26 cm, 82.78 cm), WHR (0.91, 0.88), WHtR (0.51, 0.55), ABSI (0.08 m7/6/kg2/3, 0.08 m7/6/kg2/3), BRI (4.05, 4.32), AVI (16.31 cm2, 13.83 cm2), and CI (1.23 m2/3/kg1/2, 1.27 m2/3/kg1/2). Multivariate logistic regression models showed that all indices were statistically significant (P < 0.05) with the adjusted ORs (per 1-SD increase) at 1.39-2.06 and ORs (over the optimal cut-off points) at 1.80-2.64. Conclusions: All 10 ORI (PBF, BMI, HC, WC, WHR, WHtR, ABSI, BRI, AVI, and CI) can effectively predict hypertension, among which WHR should be recommended as the best predictor. Central ORI (WHR, WC, and AVI) had a better predictive performance than general ORIs (PBF and BMI) when predicting the risk of hypertension.

Abstract:Background Adiposity is an established risk factor for diabetes. The different measurements of adiposity for predicting diabetes have been compared in recent studies in Western countries. However, similar researches among Chinese adults are limited. Methods Data were collected from a national survey conducted during September 2014 and May 2015 Among Chinese adults aged 40 years and older across 30 China's provinces. Multilevel model analysis was performed to examine the impacts of different obesity indices [body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), lipid accumulation product index (LAP), visceral adiposity index (VAI), and body adiposity index (BAI)] on the risk of diabetes. Results A total of 162 880 participants were included in this study. Of them, 54.47% were female. With an increase in BMI, WC, LAP, VAI, and BAI, the prevalence of diabetes significantly grew (P < 0.001). The multilevel model analysis showed that WC has the strongest impact on diabetes prevalence, while BAI was the weakest. For one SD increment in BMI, WC, LAP, VAI, and BAI, the prevalence of diabetes increased by 27.0% (Odds Ratio (OR)= 1.270,95% Confidence interval (CI)= 1.251-1.289), 37.4% (OR= 1.374, 95% CI = 1.346-1.401), 28.1% (OR= 1.281,95% CI= 1.266-1.297), 22.0% (OR= 1.220, 95% CI = 1.204-1.236), and 17.4% (OR= 1.174,95% CI= 1.151-1.192), respectively. Conclusion Obesity indicators of BMI, WC, LAP, VAI, and BAI have significant positive relationships with the risk of diabetes. WC has the strongest impact on diabetes, while BAI has the weakest.
A Third Study on Predicting NCLEXSuccess With the HESI Exit Exam

Abstract:This was the third annual validity study designed to assess the accuracy of the HESI Exit Exam (E2) in predicting NCLEX success for graduating registered and practical nursing students. As in year I (N = 2,725) and year II (N = 3,752), in year III (N = 6,277), the E2 was highly predictive of NCLEX success for associate degree nursing, bachelor of science nursing, diploma, and practical nursing students. Unlike previous years, in year III, monitoring was not a significant factor in the predictive accuracy of the E2. NCLEX success of low-scoring E2 students, first examined in year II, was also examined in year III. As in year II, low-scoring E2 students were significantly more (P = .001) likely to fail the licensure examination than high-scoring E2 students. In year III, unlike year II, there was no significant difference in the pass rate of low-scoring E2 students who participated in a remediation program and those who did not. The authors recommended that a more definitive definition of remediation be used in future studies and that such studies focus on E2 implementation strategies and their relationship to NCLEX success.
ZJU index: a novel model for predicting nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in a Chinese population

Abstract:Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an important health issue worldwide. We aimed to develop a simple model to determine the presence of NAFLD in a Chinese population. A cross-sectional study with 9602 subjects was conducted. Potential predictors were entered into a stepwise logistic regression analysis to obtain the model. We used 148 patients with liver biopsy to validate this model. The model, named the ZJU index, was developed based on body mass index (BMI), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), triglycerides (TG) and the serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) to serum aspartate transaminase (AST) ratio. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) of the ZJU index to detect NAFLD was 0.822. At a value of <32.0, the ZJU index could rule out NAFLD with a sensitivity of 92.2% and at a value of >38.0, the ZJU index could detect NAFLD with a specificity of 93.4%. In patients with liver biopsy, the ZJU index could detect steatosis with good accuracy, with an AUROC of 0.896. This study revealed that the ZJU index is a helpful model to detect NAFLD for community physicians in China. It was validated not only by a validation cohort but also by pathological data.
Associations Between Abdominal Obesity Indices and Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: Chinese Visceral Adiposity Index

Abstract:Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common chronic liver metabolic disease worldwide. Up to 70%–80% of patients with NAFLD were obese, especially abdominal obesity. Many indicators of abdominal obesity have been reported, including waist circumference (WC), visceral obesity index (VAI), lipid accumulation (LAP), and Chinese VAI (CVAI). However, few studies investigated the associations between these indices with NAFLD. This present study aims to explore the associations between abdominal obesity indices with NAFLD. A total of 7,238 participants were involved in the cross-sectional study, and 1,584 participants were included in the longitudinal study from Jidong communities. NAFLD was assessed by abdominal ultrasonography. The trajectory of WC, VAI, LAP, and CVAI during 2013–2016 was identified by a group-based trajectory model. The logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards models analyzed the correlations and causality between abdominal obesity indices with NAFLD. In this study, the prevalence and incidence of NAFLD are approximately 44% and 26%, respectively. In the cross-sectional study, WC, VAI, LAP, and CVAI are associated with NAFLD. After adjustment for potential confounders, the moderate-rising and high-rising groups of CVAI had the highest risk of NAFLD in longitudinal analysis (hazard ratio (HR): 3.903, 95%CI: 2.434–6.259; HR: 5.694 95%CI: 3.098–10.464, respectively). Receiving operating characteristic curves show that CVAI has the best diagnostic value for NAFLD (area under the curve (AUC) = 0.868). CVAI is independently associated with the risk of NAFLD and may also have an important value to the diagnosis of NAFLD.

Abstract:Abstract— Gram‐negative sepsis/septic shock causes significant mortality in newborns. However, there has been no established method for newborn endotoxic shock treatment. Prostaglandins play a role in endotoxic shock. Cepharanthine is a biscoclaurine alkaloid that primarily inhibits phospholipase A2. Therefore, the effects of cepharanthine have been studied on endotoxic shock in newborn rats. Cepharanthine decreased the 24 h mortality of endotoxic shock in a dose‐related manner. At the dose of 0·2 mg kg−1 it effectively reduced the mortality from 90 to 21 % in newborn rats. It also induced hyperglycaemia in control rats and blunted the hypoglycaemia of endotoxic shock. Cepharanthine did not suppress body weight gain nor did it delay death as seen with glucocorticoid treatment. We conclude that cepharanthine is beneficial in the treatment of newborn endotoxic shock.
Evaluating the relative importance of different blood pressure indices in screening for NAFLD: a survey report based on a health examination population

Abstract:Objective: While hypertension is a well-recognized risk factor for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), the specific roles of various common blood pressure measurements [diastolic blood pressure (DBP), systolic blood pressure (SBP), pulse pressure (PP), mean arterial pressure (MAP)] in detecting NAFLD and evaluating the associated risk in adults remain unclear. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 14,251 adult participants undergoing health screenings in the NAfld in the Gifu Area, Longitudinal Analysis project (NAGALA). Following the Z-transformation of the independent variables, we evaluated the relationships between the four blood pressure indices and NAFLD through multivariable logistic regression models. This analysis documented the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for each standard deviation (SD) increase. Additionally, the effectiveness of these indices in identifying NAFLD was comparatively analyzed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results: After adequately adjusting for confounders, all blood pressure indices except PP showed a positive correlation with NAFLD. For each SD increment, MAP had the strongest association with NAFLD compared to SBP and DBP. This finding was confirmed in populations without exercise habits, under 60 years of age, with normal blood pressure, and in non-obese groups. Furthermore, based on ROC analysis, MAP was found to have the highest accuracy in identifying NAFLD compared to the other three blood pressure indices. Conclusion: Among the four blood pressure indices evaluated, MAP demonstrates the greatest efficacy in identifying NAFLD and assessing its associated risk. These findings underscore the potential of MAP as the most promising blood pressure index for screening NAFLD.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a major public health burden in China, and its prevalence is increasing. This study aimed to determine the risk factors and biomarkers of NAFLD.DESIGN: An observational cross-sectional primary survey.SETTING: Central China.PARTICIPANTS: The study included 1479 participants aged over 18 and below 80 years, not currently being treated for cancer or infectious disease or no surgery in the previous year, and no history of cancer or an infectious disease. Participants underwent clinical examination, metabolomic assay and anthropometric assessment. Univariate and logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate associations between covariates and NAFLD.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Risk factors and metabolic biomarkers including sex, body mass index, hypertension, body fat ratio, blood triglycerides, blood fasting glucose, liver enzyme elevation, uric acid and oleic acid-hydroxy oleic acid (OAHOA).RESULTS: Data from the 447 participants (mean age 44.3±11.9 years) were analysed, and the prevalence of NAFLD was 24.7%. Male sex (OR 3.484, 95% CI 2.028 to 5.988), body mass index ≥24 kg/m2 (OR 8.494, 95% CI 5.581 to 12.928), body fat ratio (≥25 for women, ≥20 for men) (OR 1.833, 95% CI 1.286 to 2.756), triglycerides ≥1.7 mmol/L (OR 1.340, 95% CI 1.006 to 1.785), fasting glucose ≥6.1 mmol/L (OR 3.324, 95% CI 1.888 to 5.850), blood pressure ≥140/90 mm Hg or antihypertensive drug treatment (OR 1.451, 95% CI 1.069 to 1.970), uric acid (≥357 μmol/L for women, ≥416 μmol/L for men) (OR 2.755, 95% CI 2.009 to 3.778) and OAHOA (<5 nmol/L) (OR 1.340, 95% CI 1.006 to 1.785) were independent predictors of NAFLD (all P<0.05). These results were verified by all 1479 participants.CONCLUSIONS: NAFLD was common among the study participants. In particular, NAFLD was correlated with uric acid. We identified OAHOA as a novel marker of NAFLD prevalence. Optimal obesity- and lipid-related indices for predicting type 2 diabetes in middle-aged and elderly Chinese

Abstract:To investigate the screening and predicting functions of obesity- and lipid-related indices for type 2 diabetes (T2D) in middle-aged and elderly Chinese, as well as the ideal predicted cut-off value. This study's data comes from the 2011 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). A cross-sectional study design was used to investigate the relationship of T2D and 13 obesity- and lipid-related indices, including body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist–height ratio (WHtR), visceral adiposity index (VAI), a body shape index (ABSI), body roundness index (BRI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), conicity index (CI), Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI), triglyceride- glucose index (TyG index) and its correlation index (TyG-BMI, TyG-WC, TyG-WHtR). The unadjusted and adjusted correlations between 13 indices and T2D were assessed using binary logistic regression analysis. The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was used to determine the usefulness of anthropometric indices for screening for T2D and determining their cut‐off value, sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve (AUC). The study comprised 9488 people aged 45 years or above in total, of whom 4354 (45.89%) were males and 5134 (54.11%) were females. Among them were 716 male cases of T2D (16.44%) and 870 female cases of T2D (16.95%). A total of 13 obesity- and lipid-related indices were independently associated with T2D risk after adjusted for confounding factors ( P < 0.05). According to ROC analysis, the TyG index was the best predictor of T2D among males (AUC = 0.780, 95% CI 0.761, 0.799) and females (AUC = 0.782, 95% CI 0.764, 0.799). The AUC values of the 13 indicators were higher than 0.5, indicating that they have predictive values for T2D in middle-aged and elderly Chinese. The 13 obesity- and lipid-related indices can predict the risk of T2D in middle‐aged and elderly Chinese. Among 13 indicators, the TyG index is the best predictor of T2D in both males and females. TyG-WC, TyG-BMI, TyG-WHtR, LAP, and CVAI all outperformed BMI, WC, and WHtR in predicting T2D.

Abstract:Objective To assess the differences between anthropometric indices in predicting dyslipidemia in Chinese urban adult population and find optimal cut-off points.Methods A total of 1615 subjects with information on key variables were enrolled by multistage stratified sampling process from March to July in 2016.Information on sociodemographic characteristics (age,gender,nationality,education and income),and health and disease history of subjects was collected.Height,weight,waist circumference (WC),hip circumference,body fat percentage (％ Fat),and fasting lipid profiles were measured for each participant.The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to compare the efficacy of the various anthropometric indices to discriminate those with and without dyslipidemia.Results Waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) had the largest area under the ROC curve (AUC) for dyslipidemia in women (0.744).There were significant differences between AUC of WHtR and that of WC (P =0.008),body mass index (BMI,P =0.004),waist-to-hip ratio (WHR,P=0.005),and ％ Fat(P ＜0.001) in pairwise comparisons.Cut-off point for WHtR was O.50 for dyslipidemia in urban adult women.Although the AUC for BMI was the highest for dyslipidemia in men,it did not differ significantly from other indices (P all ＞ 0.05).Cut-off point for BMI was 24.1 kg/m2 for dyslipidemia in urban adult men.Conclusion WHtR and BMI might be optimal indices for dyslipidemia for Chinese urban adult women and men,respectively.Regional and sexual differences should be considered when choosing proper indices.
Comparison between traditional and new obesity measurement index for screening metabolic associated fatty liver disease

Abstract:Objectives: Obesity measurement indexes have certain screening value for metabolic diseases. To investigate associations between metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and obesity measurement indexes, including traditional indexes (BMI, WC, WHtR) and new indexes (ABSI, BRI, VAI, LAP), and assess their screening ability. Methods: 12,658 subjects aged 18-75 at the Health Center of a Class III Grade A Hospital were included, who were divided into MAFLD and non-MAFLD groups. Spearman's rank correlation was used to study the correlation between MAFLD and obesity measurement indexes. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to calculate the area under the curve (AUC) to evaluate their screening accuracy. Results: MAFLD had strong correlation with traditional BMI and new index LAP. ROC analysis showed that BMI had the highest AUC (0.89), followed by LAP (0.87). Stratification by BMI, LAP had the highest AUC (0.90) for MAFLD in population without obesity (BMI< 23kg/m 2 ), and its optimal cutoff value was 20.75, with a sensitivity and specificity of 85.9% and 79.0%, respectively. Conclusions: We proposed a two-step screening strategy for MAFLD, combining BMI and LAP, and defined a high-risk population for MAFLD as follows: 1) BMI ≥ 23 kg/m 2 ; and 2) BMI< 23 kg/m 2 and LAP ≥ 20.75.

Abstract:Objective To analyze the association between three diagnostic indicators for obesity and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).Methods In this cross-sectional study,283 persons from medical centers for healthy examination were analyzed,such as height,weight,waist-hip ratio(WHR),body fat percentage(BF%),blood pressure,fasting blood glucose,blood lipid,uric acid,hepatitis-related markers,and abdominal color Doppler ultrasound examination were conducted in fasting state.The correlationship between BMI,WHR or BF% and NAFLD was assessed by logistic regression,respectively.Areas under the receiver operation characteristic curve for BMI,WHR and BF% in predicting NAFLD were calculated.Results The levels of BMI,WHR and BF% were higher in the NAFLD group than non-NAFLD group.Logistic regression showed that BMI(OR 8.40,95% CI 4.17-16.92),WHR(OR 8.25,95% CI 2.89-23.54)and BF%(OR 7.97,95% CI 2.41-26.35)were the determinants of NAFLD.Adjust age,gender and other factors or not,the risk for NAFLD remained statistically significant higer than that of single BMI or single WHR.The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves of BF%,BMI and WHR in predicting the incidence of NAFLD were 0.737(95% CI:0.594-0.879),0.829(95% CI:0.713-0.945)and 0.828(95% CI:0.749-0.907)in women and 0.781(95% CI:0.711-0.850),0.780(95% CI:0.710-0.858)and 0.730(95% CI:0.655-0.806)in men.Conclusions BMI,WHR and BF% are independent risk factors for NAFLD.Combined with BF%,both BMI and WHR can increase the risk of NAFLD.In men BF% level could better predict the incidence of NAFLD.
