Abstract:Aim: This study aimed to examine seizure self-efficacy and quality of life of children with epilepsy and to evaluate the relationship between these parameters. Method: The study was conducted between November 2022 and November 2023 in the Pediatric Neurology Outpatient Clinic of a university hospital with 200 children aged 9-14 who met the inclusion criteria and accepted the study. The data were collected using the "Child Descriptive Form," "Seizure Self-Efficacy Scale in Children with Epilepsy," and "KIDSCREEN-27 Health-Related Quality of Life Scale". The data were evaluated using the IBM SPSS Statistics Standard Concurrent User V 26 statistical package program. Number, percentage, mean-standard deviation, median, minimum and maximum values, Cronbach's Alpha coefficient, Shapiro Wilk normality test, Independent Sample t-test, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Bonferroni test, Pearson correlation coefficient, linear regression analysis, Durbin-Watson value and normality of residuals Q-Q graphs were used in the evaluation of the data. A value of p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: It was determined that 53 % of the children participating in the study were male, and the median age was 12 years. The mean total score of the seizure self-efficacy scale was 3.13 ± 1.03, and the mean total score of the health-related quality of life scale was 89.83 ± 15.63. There was a statistically significant positive correlation between the dimension of individual seizure control and total score of health-related quality of life and physical well-being, emotional well-being and social support, and peer dimensions (p < 0.05). A statistically significant positive correlation was determined between the effect of environment on seizure control and health-related quality of life total score, physical well-being, social support, and peer and school environment dimensions (p < 0.05). A statistically significant positive correlation was determined between seizure self-efficacy total score and health-related quality of life total score and physical well-being, emotional well-being, social support, and peer dimensions (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The study results reveal that high self-efficacy levels of children with epilepsy improve the quality of life of children with epilepsy.

Abstract:Abstract Background Epilepsy is one of the most common chronic neurological diseases that adversely impact the quality of life of patients and their families. The “Quality of Life of Childhood Epilepsy Questionnaire” (hereinafter referred to as “QOLCE-16”) is a 16-item measure that was designed to assess health-related quality of life (HRQOL) among children with epilepsy. The purpose of the study was to translate and evaluate the psychometric properties of the QOLCE-16. Methods The 10 steps of Principles of Good Practices for translation and cultural adaptation of measures were adopted to translate the QOLCE-16 into Chinese. After that, item analysis, floor effect and ceiling effect, internal consistency, test–retest reliabilities, content validity and construct validity were conducted to test its applicability in children with epilepsy in China. A total of 435 native Chinese-speaking parents with children who had epilepsy from one children’s hospital were invited to take part in the study, including a cognitive interview sample of 5 and a validation sample of 430. Results A total of 414 objects were enrolled in our study for psychometric testing. The results of the item analysis revealed QOLCE-16-C to have good discrimination, the floor effect and ceiling effect were 0.2% and 1.0% respectively, and each item was significantly related to the total scale ( P < 0.001). The Cronbach’s α value was 0.938 and the test–retest reliability was 0.724. For validity, results showed that the QOLCE-16-C had good content validity. Exploratory factor analysis indicated it was reasonable that the QOLCE-16-C consists of four dimensions after rotation. Confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated good construct validity (χ 2 /df = 1.698, GFI = 0.913, CFI = 0.974, RMSEA = 0.058). Conclusion The Chinese version of QOLCE-16-C appears to be a culturally appropriate, valid and reliable tool to assess the health-related quality of life of children with epilepsy in China.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To develop and validate a Chinese version of the Patient-Weighted Quality of Life in Epilepsy Questionnaire (QOLIE-31-P).METHODS:The original English version of the QOLIE-31-P was translated into the Chinese language. The inventory was then completed by 200 adult patients with epilepsy; and 49 patients also completed the scale twice within three weeks. Test retest, internal consistency reliabilities, construct validity, and some influential factors for quality of life in adults with epilepsy were assessed.RESULT:Test retest reliability (Pearson's correlation coefficient) for the Chinese version of the QOLIE-31-P ranged from 0.725 to 0.912 (P<0.001), and the internal consistency reliability (Cronbach's alpha coefficient) ranged from 0.627 to 0.898. Factor analysis showed that there were seven factors, which explained the total variance for 64.9%. The coefficient of seizure frequency with the quality of life was -0.81(P<0.05). The QOLIE-31-P score of the patients with tonic clonic seizure was 55.7 +/-16.6, and that of other seizure type was 61.4 +/-18.7(t=-2.568, P<0.05).CONCLUSION:The psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the QOLIE-31-P have satisfactory reliability and validity, and can be applied to assess quality of life in Chinese adult patients with epilepsy.

Abstract:Objective The aim of study was to investigate sleep habits, quality of life (QoL), and the relationship between them in children with epilepsy. Methods In this cross-sectional study, children aged 2-18 years being followed up for epilepsy were assessed using the Child Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ) and the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL). Pearson or Spearman correlation analysis was performed to examine the relationship between normally distributed and non-normally distributed variables, respectively. Linear regression analysis was used to examine independent variables associated with PedsQL total scale score. Level of significance was accepted as p<0.05. Results The study included 112 children with a mean age of 10.5±4.4 years (51.8% female). The frequency of poor sleep habits was 96.4%. The mean CSHQ total sleep score was 49.3±5.9. On the PedsQL, the mean total scores were 74±15.6 according to the children's self-assessment and 75.8±14.8 according to parental evaluation. There was a good level of agreement between children's and parents' PedsQL total, physical health, and psychosocial health scores (p<0.001). Correlation analysis between QoL and sleep parameters revealed negative correlations between total sleep score and self-assessed PedsQL total scale, physical health, and psychosocial health scores (p<0.05) and parent-assessed PedsQL total scale and psychosocial health scores (p<0.05). The results of linear regression analysis indicated that the factors most significantly associated with lower QoL were high CSHQ total sleep score and exclusively daytime seizures (p<0.001). Significance It found children with epilepsy had poor sleep habits, low QoL, poor sleep habits have a negative impact on QoL.

Abstract:The aim of this study was to examine the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the AFEQ for Turkish parents of children with ASD. The Turkish-translated version of the AFEQ was administered to 241 parents of children aged 2–12 years with ASD to examine the construct validity and internal consistencies. Parents completed the Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC), and Quality of Life in Autism Questionnaire Parent version, along with the AFEQ. The mean age of the children of 241 individuals in the study group was 7.63 ± 3.02 and 88.4% ( n = 213) were male. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.921 of the total variance. Cronbach alpha coefficients are 0.813 for the "Experience of being a parent" subscale, 0.768 for the "Family Life" subscale, 0.810 for the "Child Development, Understanding and Social Relationships" subscale, and 0.804 for the "Child Symptoms (Feelings and Behaviour)" subscale. In conclusion, the translated and culturally adapted AFEQ shows good reliability and validity to measure the priorities of autistic children and their families in Turkey. It can also be useful in monitoring the effectiveness of intervention programs and changes in the child.

Abstract:The Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory-Cognitive Functioning Scale (PedsQL TM -CFS) was developed as a brief, general, symptom-specific tool to measure cognitive function. The 6-item PedsQLTM Cognitive Functioning Scale and PedsQL 3.0 Cancer Module answered 369 parents and 330 children with 5–18 years. Parents also completed Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF). The PedsQLTM Cognitive Functioning Scale evidenced excellent reliability (parent proxy-report α = 0.980/Fleiss Kappa: 0.794; children self-report α = 0.963/Fleiss Kappa: 0.790). Both child self-report and parent proxy-report PedsQLTM Cognitive Functioning Scale scores exhibited significant correlations with all parent-report BRIEF summary and subscale scores ( p < .05). Both child self-report and parent proxy-report PedsQLTM Cognitive Functioning Scale scores exhibited significant correlations with PedsQL 3.0 Cancer Module total score and subscale scores ( p < .05). The PedsQL TM -CFS can be used in high-risk populations with substantial to perfect reliability, both in regards to total/subcategory scores as well as in children with cancer.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: To study child mental health, parental support, and social support of children with epilepsy as these relate to quality of life (QOL) using child self-report, seizure-related variables, and estimated verbal intelligence based on receptive vocabulary.METHODS: A cross-sectional structural equation model of baseline data from the QUALITÉ cohort study, which includes 6 Canadian child epilepsy ambulatory programs. A sample of 3,481 children were screened for the following eligibility: 8 to 14 years of age, with active or medication-managed epilepsy. Of 894 eligible children, 506 agreed to participate, of whom 26 were then excluded because of an inability to self-report based on a standard cutoff score of receptive vocabulary lower than 70. The primary outcome of child-reported QOL was measured using the Child Epilepsy QOL Questionnaire.RESULTS: From the child's perspective, epilepsy-specific QOL is strongly related to their mental health and social support but not to their seizures. Specifically, child mental health and peer support exhibit direct associations with QOL; parental support has both direct and indirect associations with QOL (via child mental health); estimated verbal intelligence exerts its strongest association with QOL through mental health; and seizure status exhibits a weak relationship to QOL only through mental health.CONCLUSIONS: Among children with epilepsy aged 8 to 14 years, mental health and social support should be areas of focus in the assessment of QOL. Controlling seizures is insufficient care for influencing the child's perception of their life.

Abstract:Background. Parents of a child with neurological problems such as seizures and epilepsy experience significant mental distress. Little is known about the mental state of parents in such a stressful situation. This study aims to determine the prevalence of self-reported depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, and quality of life in parents of children with epilepsy and first unprovoked seizure. Methods. This cross-sectional study was conducted among the parents of children diagnosed with first unprovoked seizure and epilepsy admitted to the Pediatric Neurology Department, Outpatient Unit of İnönü University Medical Faculty Hospital. Participants filled out a questionnaire investigating demographic variables, Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36). Results. 113 parents participated in the study. Depression was found in 7%, anxiety in 14%, and sleep quality disorder in 33.3% of parents of children diagnosed with epilepsy on the basis of moderate or higher severity, while depression was found in 8.9%, anxiety in 14.3%, and sleep disorder in 21.4% of parents of children diagnosed with first unprovoked seizure. There was no statistically significant difference between the groups. Mothers were at higher risk for loss of physical function and social functionality. There was a positive correlation between BAI, BDI, and PSQI scores. Quality of life sub-dimension measured by SF-36 was associated with different levels of depression, anxiety, and sleep quality. Conclusion. Addressing parental psychiatric problems by professionals involved in the treatment of children with a history of seizures may have the potential to provide further support for the family and the care of patients.

Quality of Life in Adult Patients With Epilepsy in Lebanon: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract:Background: Epilepsy is a chronic and heterogeneous neurological disorder that impairs the quality of life (QOL) of sufferers and affects their mental health in many aspects. Few studies have been conducted in the Middle East, especially in Lebanon, on the QOL of patients with epilepsy. The aim of our study is to assess the burden of epilepsy on the life of adult patients in Lebanon and measure the impact of sociodemographic and clinical factors on the QOL. Materials and methods: A total of 47 patients from several neurology clinics were included in our study and asked to fill out a questionnaire including the sociodemographic variables and epilepsy-related factors. We used the Quality of Life in Epilepsy Scale-31 (QOLIE-31), which is a 31-question form covering seven attributes of the QOL; overall QOL, emotional wellbeing, social functioning, cognition, energy, seizure worry and medication effects, to assess the QOL of adult patients with epilepsy. Analysis was conducted using SPSS program version 23. Results: The mean age of our sample was 37.54 years, 53.2% of which were males. The majority were unemployed, educated, and belonging to the medium socioeconomic level. The highest subscale score was for the social functioning subscale with a mean of 74.49±25.89 and the lowest subscale score was for seizure worry with a mean of 55.81±27.14. Employment status, nationality, and socioeconomic level were shown to be associated with the QOL scores. There were no correlations between the clinical factors and the QOL scores. Conclusion: Sociodemographic factors, namely Lebanese nationality, employment status, and socioeconomic level, were associated with better QOL, reflected by the significant associations between the following parameters and the QOL scores (p-value<0.05), highlighting the positive influence of social support on the outcome of the disease. However, epilepsy-related clinical features did not show any correlation with the QOL and its subscales.
The Validity and Reliability of the Turkish Version of Preschool Hearing Environments and Reflection on Quality of Life Questionnaire

Abstract:Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess preschool children's hearing-related quality of life and to introduce the scale, originally titled “Preschool Hearing Environments and Reflections on Quality of Life Questionnaire” (Preschool HEAR-QL), to the literature through Turkish adaption, validity, and reliability analyses. Method: Our study included 210 children aged 2–6 years: 110 with hearing loss (56 cochlear implant users and 54 hearing aid users) and 100 with normal hearing. Demographic data were collected and then the Preschool HEAR-QL, which was translated into Turkish, was administered twice at 15-day intervals. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to determine whether the factor structure found in the original scale development study was confirmed in our sample (construct validity). Cronbach's alpha, intraclass correlation scores, and the test–retest method were used to assess the scale's reliability as the findings were analyzed using paired samples t tests. Results: The children with hearing loss had lower scores than their normal-hearing peers, and the difference was significant in the subdomains of behavior and attention, hearing environments, and communication. The subscale of the Preschool Period Listening Environments and their Reflections on Quality of Life Scale consists of 23 items, and Cronbach's alpha value was found as 0.922 in the first application and 0.926 in the second application (high reliability). In the model established for validity analysis, χ 2 / df = 2.156, root-mean-square error of approximation = 0.074, standard root-mean-square residual = 0.078, goodness-of-fit index = 0.830, adjusted goodness-of-fit index = 0.789, comparative fit index = 0.895, and Tucker–Lewis index = 0.881 (good model fit). In terms of test–retest reliability, the correlation between the two measurements was 0.837, and there was no statistical difference between the test–retest scores ( p = .15). Conclusion: The Turkish version of the Preschool HEAR-QL scale was proven to be a valid and reliable scale for assessing the hearing-related quality of life of children aged 2–6 years. Adaptation and validation of the Turkish version of the Quality of Life Profile for Spinal Deformities in idiopathic scoliosis

Abstract:The Quality of Life Profile for spinal deformities (QLPSD) was developed to evaluate the quality of life of patients with scoliosis and other spinal deformities. The purpose of the study was to systematically translate the QLPSD into Turkish and examine the reliability and validity of the Turkish version. This methodological study was conducted with 125 participants with idiopathic scoliosis. After the translation of the QLPSD into Turkish systematically, all participants answered the Turkish version of the QLPSD (T-QLPSD) and Scoliosis Research Society-22 items (SRS-22) questionnaires. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Cronbach's α statistics were used to test the reliability of the tools: convergent and construct validity of the tools was assessed using exploratory factor analysis and Pearson's correlation analysis. One hundred twenty-five participants were included in the study. The mean age of them was 13.7 ± 2.2 years. For the T-QLPSD total score, Cronbach's α was 0.91, and the ICC was 0.94. A very good correlation was found between T-QLPSD and SRS-22 total scores (r = -0.71). Participants with mild scoliosis reported less back pain (P = .038), better back flexibility (P=.001), and body image (P=.044) compared to moderate scoliosis. The T-QLPSD was found to be a reliable and valid scale for assessing quality of life in idiopathic scoliotic patients in Türkiye.

Abstract:This study was conducted to develop a measurement tool to achieve ketogenic diet management in parents of children with epilepsy and examine its Turkish psychometric properties. The study was conducted on 317 parents using a descriptive correlational method. Data analysis and evaluation were performed using factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha, and item – total score correlation. The scale consists of 20 items and unidimensional factor. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, the total explained variance of the unidimensional factor was 63.809%. Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the scale was 0.971. The four-weeks test-retest reliability evaluated with intra-class correlation was 0.87. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated, the model fit index results were recorded as follows: 0.95 as the Goodness-of-Fit Index; comparative fit index, 0.96 and normed fit index, 0.94. The study determined that the Ketogenic Diet Management Scale for Children with Epilepsy-Parent Form is a measurement tool that can be used by health professionals and that is used to evaluate parents' ketogenic diet knowledge.

Abstract:Objective: Pediatric epilepsy is often associated with diminished health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Our aim was to establish the validity of the Pediatric Epilepsy Learning Healthcare System Quality of Life (PELHS-QOL-2) questions, a novel two-item HRQOL prompt for children with epilepsy, primarily for use in clinical care. Methods: We performed a multicenter cross-sectional study to validate the PELHS-QOL-2. Construct validity was established through bivariate comparisons with four comparator measures and known drivers of quality of life in children with epilepsy, as well as by creating an a priori multivariable model to predict the Quality of Life in Childhood Epilepsy Questionnaire (QOLCE-55). Validity generalization was established through bivariate comparisons with demographic and clinical information. Content validity and clinical utility were established by assessing how well the PELHS-QOL-2 met eight design criteria for an HRQOL prompt established by a multistakeholder group of experts. Results: The final participant sample included 154 English-speaking caregivers of children with epilepsy (mean age = 9.7 years, range = .5-18, 49% female, 70% White). The PELHS-QOL-2 correlated with the four comparator instruments (ρ = .44-.56), was significantly associated with several known drivers of quality of life in children with epilepsy (p < .05), and predicted QOLCE-55 scores in the multivariate model (adjusted R2 = .54). The PELHS-QOL-2 item was not associated with the age, sex, and ethnicity of the children nor with the setting and location of data collection, although PELHS-QOL-Medications was significantly associated with race (worse for White race). Following both quantitative and qualitative analysis, the PELHS-QOL-2 met seven of eight design criteria. Significance: The PELHS-QOL-2 is a valid HRQOL prompt and is well suited for use in clinical care as a mechanism to routinely initiate conversations with caregivers about quality of life in children with epilepsy. The association of PELHS-QOL-Medications with race merits further study.
Parent/caregiver reported health-related functioning in Chinese children with epilepsy: A cross-sectional, parents-responded, hospital-based study

Abstract:Due to epilepsy, children have faced several difficulties and challenges. Epilepsy shows an impact on a person quality of life (QoL) which can be associated with psychological, physical, and social aspects and can have a greater impact on the QoL of the person than that do through another chronic disease(s). Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is a multidimensional concept that includes emotional, mental, physical, behavioral, and social aspects of the well-being and functioning of the patients. The objective of the study was to assess the level of HRQoL for childhood epilepsy in Chinese children under treatment for epilepsy. Also, to identify factors that can affect QoL. A descriptive, cross-sectional, parents-responded questionnaire-based study was performed on 382, 4 to 18 years old hospitalized and outpatient units' children from various backgrounds, varying socio-economic status, and of varying intellectual capability with the most recent epilepsy. The clinical and socio-demographic parameters were collected from medical records and by an interview with parents of children. The quality of life in the children with epilepsy (QoLCE) questionnaire-91 was used to access HRQoL. The average age of children was 10.4 ± 3.2 years. The duration of epilepsy in children was 3.90 ± 2.80 years. Among the enrolled children, 153 (40%) children were girls, and 229 (60%) individuals were boys. The overall QoLCE questionnaire-91 score was 69.40 ± 16.40 (minimum scores: 27.80, maximum scores: 87.80). A total of 324 (84%), 41 (11%), and 17 (5%) children were from urban, suburban, and rural types, respectively. The generalized seizure (198 (52%)) is the most common type of existing seizure followed by focal seizure (152 (40%)). Male (P = .015), older children (12-14 years, P = .019), those residing in urban areas (P = .021), and those with focal seizures (P = .049) had higher QoL scores. The overall QoL of Chinese CWE is affected by sex, age, urbanization, and seizure type but not with education or economic status of the families. The study provides helpful insight for the clinicians in the management of chronic childhood epileptic conditions (Level of Evidence: II; Technical Efficacy Stage: 5).

Abstract:Perceptual and Motor Skills, Ahead of Print. We investigated the psychometric properties of a Turkish version of the Young Children's Participation and Environment Measure (YC-PEM-T). Our participants were 367 children (212 children with disabilities and 155 children without disabilities; M age = 40.76 months, SD = 20.33; range 0–71 months) and their parents, who were selected by a convenience sampling method. We translated and cross-culturally adapted the original YC-PEM from English to Turkish (YC-PEM-T). We found the internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the YC-PEM-T to be good with a Croanbach's alpha ranging from .68 to .94, and intraclass correlation coefficients ranging from .69 to .89 after the YC-PEM-T was administered twice to 100 parents within a three week period. In a two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) we compared YC-PEM-T scores between children with and without the presence of a disability and found significant differences (p < .05). While we found significant differences between three different age groups, they did not follow consistently. To evaluate discriminant validity, we followed up these ANOVAs with post-hoc analyses when results were statistically significant. Regarding concurrent validity, there were strong to very strong relationships between scores on the participation part of the YC-PEM-T and both the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI; .701 < r < .854, p < .001), and the European Child Environment Questionnaire (ECEQ; - .632 < r < - .690, p < .001). We concluded that the YC-PEM-T is a valid, reliable, and culturally adapted tool for evaluating daily life participation and adaptation to environmental factors in young Turkish children. We can recommend the YC-PEM-T for use in clinical settings and for epidemiological research to assess young children's participation in activities in the home, preschool and community. We also recommend that future investigators examine other psychometric properties of this scale, including its interpretation and capacity to differentiate varied diagnostic and disability groups.

Abstract:Clinical Child Psychology and Psychiatry, Ahead of Print. Measuring satisfaction with psychological health services is important in clinical settings to evaluate the benefits of treatment. Past research has shown that relationship with therapist is at the core of satisfaction reports. However, measurement tools focusing on patients' psychological health care experiences are rather scarce. The objective of this study is to adapt the Experience of Service Questionnaire (ESQ) Parent form and examine its psychometric properties in a Turkish population. ESQ Parent form was presented to parents (N = 265) of children who have received treatment at a university's psychological counseling center. Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) was gathered from parents pre- and post-treatment to measure symptomatic gains and investigate their associations with satisfaction with treatment. Confirmatory factor analysis comparing two different constructs showed that the 2-factor structure had a better fit. In addition, participants showing higher therapeutic gains showed significantly higher satisfaction in ESQ. This study is the first to measure satisfaction in psychological health care settings in Turkey, and therefore aims to contribute to a gap in the field. Results indicate a significant association between treatment outcome and satisfaction levels. Also, adapted measurement tool demonstrates adequate reliability and validity scores supporting its use in clinical settings.Plain Language SummaryMeasuring Satisfaction in Mental Health Care: Measuring satisfaction in psychological health services could improve the quality of treatment and provide feedback to therapists. We aimed to adapt a questionnaire for measuring satisfaction in clinical settings in Turkey. We asked 265 parents whose children received psychological treatment at a university's counseling center to fill out a satisfaction questionnaire to evaluate their experiences with the services they received. Our findings show that the quality of patient-therapist relationship is a main factor that affects satisfaction in psychological health services. Moreover, environmental factors such as location and facilities may also be important factors in satisfaction with health services. Lastly, we showed that satisfaction was associated with better treatment outcome; patients who showed more clinical improvement in treatment also reported higher satisfaction with the services received. Our study has underlined factors that affect satisfaction levels (relationship with therapist and environmental arrangements) in mental health care settings. We also identified how measuring satisfaction with psychological health services could be of use in clinical settings. We hope that our study would help mental health workers to take notice of the relationship between satisfaction and therapeutic progress.

Abstract:Objective To estimate the minimum clinically important difference (MCID) for the parent‐reported 55‐item Quality of Life in Childhood Epilepsy Questionnaire (QOLCE‐55) and its shortened 16‐item version, QOLCE‐16. Methods Data came from 74 children with epilepsy (CWE) (ages 4–10, mean age = 8 [SD = 1.8]) enrolled in the Making Mindfulness Matter in Epilepsy (M3‐E) trial, a pilot, parallel randomized‐controlled trial of a mindfulness‐based intervention. Both anchor‐based and distribution‐based methods were used to estimate MCID values for the QOLCE‐55 and QOLCE‐16. For the anchor‐based approach, the Patient Centered Global Ratings of Change (PCGRC) scale and linear regression analysis were used to estimate the MCID. For the distribution‐based approach, .5 SD of the health‐related quality of life (HRQOL) change score distribution was used to estimate the MCID. Results For the QOLCE‐55, the MCID obtained using an anchor‐based approach was 10 points and using a distribution‐based method was 6 points. For the QOLCE‐16, the MCID obtained using an anchor‐based method was 13 points and using a distribution‐based method was 7 points. Significance This is the first study to estimate MCID values for the QOLCE‐55 and the QOLCE‐16. It has been well documented that CWE are at risk of experiencing psychological, behavioral, and cognitive impairments, which can negatively impact their HRQOL. Reporting MCID values for the QOLCE‐55 and QOLCE‐16 is important in determining whether changes in HRQOL observed are meaningful to CWE themselves, as a key factor in shaping the nature of epilepsy care delivered.
