Abstract:Densities for binary mixtures consisting of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([bmim]Cl) and water or hydrophilic organic solvents (methanol, acetonitrile. and N,N-dimethylformamide) have been determined at different temperatures ranging from (293.15 to 318 15) K and atmospheric pressure, with mole fractions of [bmim]Cl in the mixtures ranging from 0 to about 0 5. The density values increase as the [bmim]cl concentration increases or the temper attire decreases, and the temperature dependence has been correlated by a second-order polynomial equation The isobanic expansivity and apparent molar volume values for these binary mixtures have been calculated from the density data A comparison has been made for the obtained properties with those of similar systems reported in the literature when available

Abstract:The intermolecular interactions and solution properties of the antihistamine drug chlorpheniramine (CP) in aqueous, aqueous solutions of electrolyte and non-electrolyte have been examined in the current work using volumetric and spectroscopic approaches to investigate how the drug is affected by co-solutes. Also, a drug’s behavior in water and other aqueous systems can be studied to learn more about the chemistry of biological systems. Using an Anton Paar density and sound velocity meter, densities and sound velocities for CP (0–0.10 mol⋅kg−1) at various temperatures (298.15, 308.15, and 318.15 K) in water and in aqueous 0.05 mol⋅kg−1 urea, glucose, and sodium chloride have been measured to determine apparent molar properties: apparent molar volume (Vϕ)$$V_{\phi} )$$ and apparent molar compressibility (Kϕ,S)$$(K_{\phi, {\mathrm{S}}})$$. A number of derived parameters, including limiting apparent molar volume Vϕ0$$\left( {V_{\phi }^{0} } \right)$$, limiting apparent molar compressibility (Kϕ,S0)$$K_{\phi, {\mathrm{S}}}^{0})$$, limiting apparent molar expansibility (ϕE0)$$\phi_{\mathrm{E}}^{0} )$$, and isobaric thermal expansion coefficient (ɑ) were obtained using the data on apparent molar properties. While analyzing the data, solute–solvent interactions are taken into account, as well as their considerable effects on CP hydration when co-solutes, are introduced to the combination. The negative transfer properties suggest the predominance of ion-hydrophobic and hydrophobic-hydrophobic interactions in all the studied systems. Positive and small negative values of Hepler’s constant revealed the structure-making capability of CP in aqueous urea, glucose, and sodium chloride. Also, an IR study has been done to verify the results obtained from volumetric and compressibility data. Understanding how drugs behave in various solvent systems during drug development is made easier by understanding drug interactions.

Micellization and interfacial behaviors of an ionic liquid 1-hexadecyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (HMICL-16) mixed with a drug imipramine hydrochloride (IMH) were investigated in aqueous and aquo-urea (250 and 500 mmol·kg −1 ) solutions using tensiometry as a probe. The drastic decline in the critical micelle concentration ( cmc ) of the mixed system confirms strong interaction supported by the energetic parameters in the mixed micelle and mixed surface in aqueous and aquo-urea media. Density Functional Theory (DFT) has been employed for the optimization of the geometrical structures of the ionic liquid and the drug moieties as well as of their coordinated structures to quantify the interactions in the mixed system through the Frontier Molecular Orbital (FMO) approach. Urea remarkably influences hydrogen bonding conformation of the hydrophobic region by changing the dielectric constant of water. As compared to aqueous system, non-ideality in IMH + HMICL-16 in aquo-urea solvent (250 mmol.kg -1 ) was found to be reduced and the extent of nonideality further decreases with increase in [urea] to 500 mmol.kg -1 . Using surface tension method different physio-chemical parameters (interaction parameter, composition of components, activity coefficient, thermodynamic parameters, etc.) have been determined and interpreted. Both micellization and adsorption of IHM are found to be spontaneous in all the media investigated as indicated by the negative values of the free energies of micellization (-17.82, -17.66, and -17.57 kJ.mol -1 respectively in water, 250 mmol.kg -1 urea, and 500 mmol.kg -1 urea), and the free energies of adsorption (-40.06, -39.30, and -32.92 kJ.mol -1 respectively in these media). The addition of HMICL-16 to IMH causes an increased spontaneity of both the micellization and adsorption processes. FTIR and UV-visible spectral techniques were employed to assess the interactions amongst IMH and HMICL-16. UV-visible study of IMH shows maximum absorption at a wavelength of 249 nm due to a π-π* transition which underwent a hyperchromic shift upon interaction with HMICL-16. A quantitative estimation based on the Benesi-Hildebrand equation demonstrates negative values of free energy (Δ G ) confirming the formation of energetically favorable complex in the investigated systems. Abstract:Abstract: The solubilizing tendency of the phenylephrine hydrochloride (PHC) with water was supported by the intermolecular interaction (IMI). The effect of PHC concentration with water molecules on the interaction by using physicochemical properties (PCP) was investigated at 298.15, 303.15, 308.15 and 313.15 K. The PCP such as density (ρ, g cm -3 ), Apparent Molar Volume (Vφ,cm 3 ·mol−1 ), viscosity (η, mPa.s), and surface tension (γ,mNm-1 ) of PHC in aqueous solution have been determined at 298.15, 303.15, 308.15 and 313.15 K. The PCP determine the state of intermolecular forces (IMF) between PHC and water (W). The concentration of PHC ranged from 0.02- 0.10 millimolar (mM) as a binary system in water. This study shows molecular interaction mechanism moderated through PCPs to assess state of IMF produced on PHC-Water interaction at 298.15, 303.15, 308.15 and 313.15 K which revealed that structural potential of PHC with water responsible for develop interaction. The PCP data confirms structural behavior of PHC with water for intermolecular interaction and increases with increasing concentration of PHC. The temperature dependent solubility determined at 298.15, 303.15, 308.15 and 313.15 K which indicates that on increasing temperature the significant change found in PCP. This is due to structure breaking effects of PHC with water furnished disruption of hydrogen bond (HB) in water and electrostatic interactions (EI).

Abstract:This work is based on the investigation of thermophysical properties of pure ionic liquids {ILs; 1-ethyl-/1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide; [EMIM][(NTf) 2 ], [BMIM][(NTf) 2 ], solvent acetonitrile (ACN), and its binary mixtures. Under these investigations, density ( ρ ) and ultrasonic velocity ( u ) were measured using high-precision vibrating-tube densitometer and viscosity ( η ) with an automated falling ball microviscometer for all components as functions of the mole fraction of ILs ( ) at T = 298.15–323.15 K and p = 0.1 MPa. ρ , u , and η data of pure and binary components were used to evaluate excess/deviation parameters, and these parameters are correlated utilizing the extended form of Redlich–Kister equation. Interactions inside the ion pair of ILs and ILs–solvent are well discussed in terms of various specific/nonspecific forces of attractions. The interactions between the ion pair / and as well as IL solvent was calculated using Density Functional Theory (DFT) in terms of various parameters at the D3-B3LYP/6–311 + + G(d,p) level of theory. Moreover, various molecular properties, including structures, frontier molecular orbitals, electrostatic potentials, atomic charges, dipole moments, interaction energies, reactivity descriptors, zero-point energy (ZPE), and heat capacity, were obtained at the same level of theory. Thereafter, the natural bond orbital (NBO) analyses were performed to see all the interactions between donor–acceptor atoms at molecular level.

Abstract:We have performed a comprehensive analysis of the conformational and vibrational spectroscopic properties of Diphenhydramine in the gas phase using potential energy scanning calculations at DFT/B3LYP/6-31++G(d, p) level of theory which identified three different conformational structures. The influence of hydrochloride (HCl) on the energy profile and vibrational frequencies of the most stable conformational structure was investigated. The presence of HCl showed a decrement in the energy by -460.8312 a.u. confirming DPH HCl structurally more stable than isolated DPH. Normal coordinate analysis (NCA) was employed to compute the total potential energy distribution for both the most stable conformational structure and the HCl complex. The results indicate that the DFT-computed vibrational frequencies are in good agreement with previously reported values. HOMO and LUMO was conducted to study the transition profile of the molecule. Additionally, NBO calculations were performed to ensure the stability of electronic structures at the same level of theory.

Abstract:The examination of a drug in water and other aqueous systems gives insight into the chemistry of biological systems. This work aims to study the physico-chemical properties of chlorpheniramine maleate (drug) in water and aq-MeOH/EG (mono/dihydric alcohols) systems at different temperatures by using different techniques. Densities and viscosities of chlorpheniramine maleate in water and also in MeOH/EG aqueous solutions have been measured over a temperature range of 298.15 to 318.15 K. Number of several parameters, i.e., apparent molar volume (φv), partial molar volume (φvo), Hepler’s constant (∂CΡ/∂Ρ)T, Falkenhagen coefficient (A), and Jones-Dole coefficient (B) have been calculated by using experimentally measured density and viscosity values. The mentioned calculated parameters were found to be valuable in perceiving drug-drug and drug-solvent interactions. Moreover, one of the liquid chromatographic techniques such as RP-HPLC has also been performed, and the outcomes supported the conclusion procured from the volumetric and viscometric studies. Drug interactions help to understand their behavior in different solvent systems during drug development.

Abstract:Ionic liquids have gained attention as 'designer solvents' since they offer a broad spectrum of properties that can be tuned by altering the constituent ions. In this work, 1-alkyl-2-methyl imidazolium-based ionic liquids with two different alkyl chains (alkyl = hexyl and octyl) have been synthesized and characterized. Since the binary mixture of ionic liquids with molecular solvents can give rise to striking physicochemical properties, the interaction of the synthesized room temperature ionic liquids, 1-hexyl-2-methyl imidazolium bromide [HMIM][Br]/1-octyl-2-methyl imidazolium bromide [OMIM][Br] with DMSO has been examined through density and specific conductance at T = (303.15, 308.15, 313.15 and 318.15) K under atmospheric pressure. The obtained molar volume and excess molar volume are fitted to the Redlich–Kister polynomial equation, and the standard deviation is noted. The positive excess molar volume at elevated temperatures indicates volume expansion due to the mutual loss of dipolar association and differences in the sizes and shapes of the constituent molecules. To have a better understanding of the reactivity and efficacy of 1-hexyl-2-methyl imidazolium bromide and 1-octyl-2-methyl imidazolium bromide with DMSO, the Becke, 3-parameter, Lee–Yang–Parr (B3LYP) correlation function of density functional theory (DFT) has been used. The ORCA Program version 4.0 calculates the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy. The effective reactivities of both the compounds that showed an energy band gap (Δ E ), i.e. , the difference between E LUMO and E HOMO , are 7.147 and 8.037 kcal mol −1 .

Abstract:With ionic liquids (ILs) being widely used, the toxicity of many ILs has been studied and verified. However the mechanism underlying the interaction between ILs and DNA needs to be investigated. In this study, the interaction of three imidazolium-based ILs ([C8mim]Cl, [C12mim]Cl, and [C16mim]Cl) with calf thymus DNA (ctDNA) was investigated by UV absorption spectroscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy. An intense interaction between [Cnmim]Cl and ctDNA was observed, involving a hypochromic effect or even a hyperchromic effect, in the UV absorption spectrum of ctDNA at 260nm. The Tm of ctDNA increased over 10°C after binding with [Cnmim]Cl, and the KSV values of [Cnmim]Cl-ctDNA quenched by potassium iodide (KI) were lower than those of [Cnmim]Cl. The fluorescence intensity of ctDNA-ethidium bromide (EB) was gradually quenched as the [Cnmim]Cl concentration increased. The results indicated that ctDNA interacted with [Cnmim]Cl through an intercalation binding mode. The mechanism of fluorescence quenching of [Cnmim]Cl with ctDNA involved static quenching. The binding constant between [Cnmim]Cl and ctDNA were 1443, 11169, and 67189, and the number of binding sites were 0.89, 1.10, and 1.27 at 298K, for [C8mim]Cl, [C12mim]Cl, and [C16mim]Cl, respectively. The results indicated that the intercalation binding between the three [Cnmim]Cl and ctDNA increased with increasing IL-alkyl chain length. These results will aid in the understanding of the mechanism of toxicity and of the biologically mediated environmental processes of ILs.

Abstract:A systematic experimental density and sound velocity measurement was carried out for imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) in pure water and in aqueous solutions of 0.03 w/w of water-miscible polymers with different structures and molar masses at T = (288.15, 293.15, 298.15, 303.15 and 308.15) K and p = 84.5 kPa. The ILs under investigation are 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hydrogen sulphate ([C 4 mim][HSO 4 ]) and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([C 4 mim]Br). The effects of temperature, polymer type, and IL anion type on the various volumetric and compressibility properties, such as apparent molar volume, isentropic compressibility, apparent molar isentropic compressibility, and infinite dilution apparent molar properties for transfer of ILs from water to aqueous polymer solution were scrutinised. From the gathered results, ion-water interactions, ion-ion interactions at finite concentration, and water-structure breaking character for aqueous solutions of [C 4 mim][HSO 4 ] are more considerable than aqueous solutions of [C 4 mim]Br. However, [C 4 mim]Br-polymer interactions are more favourable than interactions between [C 4 mim][HSO 4 ] and the studied polymers.

Abstract:Mixing ionic liquids (ILs) with molecular solvents can extend the practical applications of ILs and overcome the drawbacks of neat ILs. Knowledge on the structure and hydrogen-bond interaction properties of IL-molecular solvent mixtures is essential for chemical applications. In this work, the structure and hydrogen-bond features of N-alkyl-N-methyl-pyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([CnMPyr][Tf2N], n = 3, 4, 6 and 8) and DMSO mixtures were studied using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Excess infrared absorption spectroscopy and two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2D-COS) were employed to extract structural information on the mixtures from the C-D systematic stretching vibrational (nu(s)(C-D)) region of the methyl groups in DMSO-d(6). It was found that the mixing process of [CnMPyr][Tf2N] and DMSO is non-ideal and interaction complexes form between [CnMPyr][Tf2N] and DMSO-d(6). They are ion cluster-DMSO-d(6) complexes and ion pair-DMSO-d(6) complexes. In the mixing processes, the species present in pure DMSO gradually decrease from DMSO dimer to DMSO monomer with an increase in ILs. Besides, the ion cluster-DMSO complexes gradually increase, while the ion pair-DMSO complexes decrease due to the strong electrostatic interaction between the cation and anion. In the ion cluster-DMSO complexes and ion pair-DMSO complexes, the ring hydrogen atoms of the methylene group directly attached to the nitrogen atom are the preferred interaction sites of the [CnMPyr](+) cations. All the hydrogen bonds in the identified complexes are closed-shell, electrostatically dominant and weak.

Abstract:Mixtures of ionic liquids (ILs) and molecular solvents can overcome the drawbacks (high viscosity, high polarity, and high cost) of pure ILs and extend their practical use. The structural and interaction properties of ILs form the bases for understanding their properties. In this work, the structural properties of the mixtures of an IL, 1-(2'-hydroxylethyl)-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([C2OHMIM][Tf2N]), with chloroform, a molecular solvent of weak polarity, in various concentrations were analysed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations. Excess spectra were used to analyse the infrared spectra. The IL forms a stable ion cluster-CDCl3 complex with CDCl3 in the concentration range investigated. In the ion cluster-CDCl3 complex, the hydrogen atom of CDCl3 forms hydrogen-bonds with the fluorine atoms of the anion. In addition, the chlorine atom of CDCl3 forms a halogen-bond with the oxygen atom of the anion. All the hydrogen and halogen-bonds identified between the [C2OHMIM][Tf2N] ion cluster and CDCl3 exhibit low strength, closed shells, and electrostatically dominant interactions.
Solute-Solvent Interactions of Amino Acid L-Phenylalanine in Aqueous 1-Butyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium Bromide Ionic Liquid Solutions

Abstract:Densities of (L)-phenylalanine in water and in aqueousl-butyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium bromide solutions, at T= (283.15, 288.15, 293.15, 298.15 and 303.15)K and atmospheric pressure have been measured. The apparent molar volumes, V-Phi, standard partial molar volumes, v(Phi)(0), limiting apparent molar expansibilities, E-Phi(0), and standard partial molar volumes of transfer, Delta v(Phi)(0), have been calculated. The values of Delta v(Phi)(0) are negative. These volumetric parameters are interpreted in terms of various mixing effects between (L)-phenylalanine and [BMMIm]Br in aqueous solution. The 1H NMR measurements of binary mixtures of (L)-phenylalanine and [BMMIm]Br in D(2)0 solutions have been carried out to understand the possible interactions. The results show that the interactions between the hydrophobic-hydrophobic groups of [BMMIm]Br and (L)-phenylalanine may be dominant in the studied system. Furthermore, the density functional theory calculations provide stabilization energies and suggest possible interaction ways that support the volumetric and NMR measurements. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd.

Abstract:The experimental thermophysical properties (densities ( ρ ), speed of sound ( u ) and refractive ( nD ) indices) of binary mixtures containing 1:3 mol ratio of [1-butyl-3-dimethylimidazolium chloride to ethylene glycol] [BMIM]Cl: EG], deep eutectic solvent (DES), with selected alcohols (methanol and ethanol) were measured. The measurements of the binary mixtures and the pure solvents were conducted at temperatures ranging from (293.15 to 313.15) K in the interval of 5 K and at ambient pressure using an Anton Paar densitometer. Thermodynamic properties such as excess molar volumes ( VmE ), intermolecular free length ( L f ), isentropic compressibilities ( k s ), deviation in isentropic compressibilities (Δ ks ) and deviation in refractive indices (Δ nD ) were computed from the measured data of physical properties. These excess thermodynamic properties are utilized to investigate the intermolecular interactions occurring between imidazolium DES and methanol or ethanol. Geometry optimization calculations were undertaken using Density Functional Theory (DFT) to model the structure of DES with a 1:1 mol ratio employing the B3LYP-D3 functional and a basis set of 6–31G++**. The DFT results revealed that the interaction energies within the DES in the presence of solvent favoured the formation of the complex. Furthermore, interrogation of the optimized structures at molecular level showed that the interactions were mediated by the electrostatic ionic bonding with the co-solvent playing a significant role in solubility. The excess molar volumes of binary mixtures were correlated using the Lorentz-Lorenz equation, and the densities and refractive indices were predicted using the Lorentz-Lorenz equation. The interaction energies and electrostatic interactions between the different solvents were predicted using quantum mechanics. The experimental data was found to be in good agreement with the theoretical data for the measured properties as well as the computational predictions of the stability of the systems.

Abstract:In practical use, ionic liquids (ILs) often mix with cosolvents to reduce the high polarity, large viscosity and high cost of pure ILs. Hydrogen-bonding interactions greatly influence the properties of IL-cosolvent system. In this work, the interactions between an IL 1-butyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([BMMIM][BF4]) and DMSO have been investigated by attenuated total reflection infrared (ATR-IR) spectroscopy and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Excess infrared spectroscopy and two-dimensional (2D) correlation infrared spectroscopy were applied to analyze the infrared spectra. It is found that: 1) Hydrogen-bonding interaction is the main cause that induces the infrared spectra change of v(CH) and v(CD). 2) The hydrogen-bonding interactions involving C4,5–H change prior to that of the alkyl CH in [BMMIM][BF4]. 3) The hydrogen atoms in the CH3 attached to N3 are more preferred to be hydrogen-bond donors than the other hydrogen atoms in the [BMMIM]+ cation. 4) The hydrogen-bonds in the [BMMIM]+−[BF4]− and [BMMIM][BF4]−DMSO complexes are the closed shell interaction and are electrostatic dominant.

Abstract:A series of ionic liquids based on Octyl and Decyl methylimidazolium with different anions such as chloride, glycinate, dihydrogen phosphate and trihydrogen diphosphate, were synthesized and characterized by 1HNMR and elemental analysis. IL containing trihydrogen diphosphate anion, was synthesized for the first time. Physicochemical properties, including density, viscosity, surface tension, refractive index, and pH, were measured in temperature range 283.15 to 363.15 K and atmospheric pressure. The effects of temperature, alkyl chain, and anion type on physicochemical properties were investigated. The results revealed that the physicochemical properties decreased as a function of temperature. Unlike viscosity, other properties, such as density, surface tension, refractive index and pH values, decreased, while alkyl chain length increased. Understanding ILs properties and determining their unique abilities helps researchers to use them in new applications. These long alkyl chain ILs, are being used as surfactants to reduce Oil/Water interfacial tension in EOR process.

Molecular dynamics simulation studies of 1,3-dimethyl imidazolium nitrate ionic liquid with water

Abstract:The fundamental understanding of intermolecular interactions of ionic liquids (ILs) with water is essential in predicting IL–water thermodynamic properties. In this study, intermolecular or noncovalent interactions were studied for 1,3-dimethyl imidazolium [DMIM] + cation and nitrate [NO 3 ] − anion with water, employing quantum mechanics and molecular dynamics simulations. Molecular dynamics simulations were performed using a revised multipolar polarizable force field. The effect of water on ionic liquids was evaluated in terms of thermodynamic and dynamic properties. Thermodynamic properties included liquid densities ρ , excess molar volumes Δ V E , and liquid structures gr . Dynamic properties included self-diffusion coefficients D of mixture constituents as a function of water concentration. The density of ionic liquid–water mixtures monotonically decrease with increasing concentration of water. A negative excess volume was obtained for low and high water concentrations, demonstrating strong intermolecular interactions of water with ionic liquid components. Liquid structures of ionic liquid–water mixtures revealed a tendency for anions to interact with cations at shorter intermolecular distances when the water concentration is increased. Diffusion rates were found to increase for all mixture components with increase in the fraction of water. A significant change in the diffusion rate was found at ∼0.3 weight fraction of water. However, the water self-diffusion coefficient was dominant at all concentrations. The ratio of water/anion and anion/cation self-diffusion coefficients was found to decrease linearly with increasing concentration of water molecules.

Abstract:Ether-functionalized ionic liquids (ILs) have successfully been employed in diverse applications, but their interactions with other solvents are not understood well. In this work, mixtures of 1-methoxyethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (EOMIMFSI) and dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) are studied in terms of their solution structure and hydrogen bonding interactions. The corresponding alkyl-substituted IL 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (EMIMFSI) is analyzed for comparison. A combination of FTIR spectroscopy, excess spectroscopy, and quantum chemical calculations is employed for this purpose. The datasets allow drawing a number of conclusions as follows: (1) the ether group forms intramolecular hydrogen bonds that compete with anions and DMSO; hence, introducing ether groups into the imidazolium-based IL leads to the weakening of hydrogen bonds in the mixtures. (2) With the help of excess spectra and quantum chemical calculations, some complexes such as ion clusters, ion pairs, and individual ions were identified and assigned in the two systems. The solution structures at different concentrations were examined by analyzing the excess spectra of nu(C2-H) and nu(C-D) in the two IL-DMSO-d(6)systems. (3) The introduced ether groups result in changes of the main interaction sites, which were found to be concentration-dependent. In the EOMIMFSI-DMSO system, when isolated ions are the main existing form, the C2-Hs are still the main sites interacting with DMSO. However, when ion pairs or larger ion clusters are the main existing species, the C4-Hs are the main sites interacting with DMSO.

Abstract:Ionic liquids (ILs) can be used as carriers and solubilizers as well as for increasing the effectiveness of drugs. In the present investigation, the micellar properties of phosphonium-based ionic liquids (PILs) such as trihexyltetradecylphosphonium bis(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)phosphinate ([P666(14)][THPP]) and the effect of carbocyclic sugar-based myo-inositol (MI) and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), i.e. ibuprofen (IBU) or aspirin (ASP), on the PIL micellar system were studied using surface tension, conductivity, colorimetry, viscometry, FTIR, and dynamic light scattering (DLS) at a temperature of 299 ± 0.5 K. The critical micelle concentrations (CMCs), particle size, zeta potential, and various interfacial parameters were also included i.e. , efficiency of adsorption (pC 20 ), surface tension at CMC ( γ CMC ), minimum surface area per molecule ( A min ), surface pressure at CMC ( π CMC ), maximum surface excess concentration ( Γ max ), and various thermodynamic parameters, such as standard Gibbs free energy of adsorption , standard Gibbs free energy of micellization per alkyl tail , standard Gibbs free energy of the air–water interface (Δ G (s) min ), standard Gibbs free energy of transfer , and standard Gibbs free energy of micellization . The adsorption and micellization characteristics became more spontaneous, as shown by the more negative values of and . Viscosity-based rheological properties were calculated for various PIL + MI and PIL + MI + NSAID systems. According to the DLS data, the PIL ( Z = 316.4 nm) micellar system generates substantially bigger micelles in an aqueous solution of MI + ASP ( Z = 801.7 nm) than in MI + IBU ( Z = 674.7 nm). FTIR spectroscopy revealed the interactions of PIL with MI + ASP and MI + IBU, where it was observed that MI + IBU shows good agreement with the PIL system compared to MI + ASP. The current research will have effects on pharmaceutical sciences, molecular biology, and drug delivery.

Abstract:Ionic liquids (ILs) are often used in combination with molecular solvents as working fluids in many applications. The addition of molecular solvents disturbs the structure and dynamics of ILs. Thus, understanding the structure and interactions in molecular solvents and IL mixtures is particularly important. In this work, the structure and hydrogen-bond features of N-alkyl-N-trimethylammonium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([N-111n][Tf2N], n=3, 4, 6 and 8) and dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) binary systems were studied via the combination of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and quantum chemical calculations. The C−D systematic stretching vibrational (vs(C−D)) region of the methyl groups in DMSO−d6 was specially focused on using excess infrared and two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy. In the mixing process, the DMSO dimer and monomer were gradually reduced with increasing ILs. [N-111n][Tf2N] interacts with DMSO by ion cluster-DMSO−d6 complexes and ion pair−DMSO−d6 complexes. The ion cluster−DMSO complexes gradually increase while the ion pair−DMSO complexes decrease due to the strong electrostatic interaction between the cation and anion. In the interaction complexes, closed-shell, electrostatically dominant and weak strength hydrogen-bonds were found between the ILs and DMSO−d6. The hydrogen atoms in the methyl groups directly attached to the nitrogen atom of the [N-111n]+ cation are the preferred interaction sites of the cations.
