Abstract:After 78 years of having been founded, the Mexican Institute of Social Security has undergone several changes in its structure and dimension, secondary to both population growth and epidemiological and social transitions, in such a way that its growth has been exponential. The institute safeguards the welfare of its beneficiaries through medical, economic and social benefits. Currently, it provides health coverage to more than 60% of the Mexican population through the physical infrastructure and workforce of its 440 000 employees.
