Abstract:Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most commonly neurodevelopmental disorders with a complex symptomatology in children, and frequently suffer from deficits in executive functions and motor abilities. Although medication-based treatments usually have a positive effect, possible side effects may result in a need for an adjunctive intervention. Present studies show positive effect of physical exercise on cognitive function. Therefore, the purpose of the current study is thoroughly examine the effects of physical exercise in children with ADHD. Preliminary evidence shows both acute and chronic physical exercise are beneficial to ADHD symptoms, executive function, and motor abilities. Benefits of acute exercise may gradually accumulate over time. Such benefits reflect the positive correlation between cognition and physical activity, and these benefits will also lead to changes in executive function after long-term training. Aerobic could induce to increase the neurotransmitter ie. serotonin, dopamine, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and brain blood flow. Perceptual motor and meditation could lead to neuroplasticity in nerve cells and synaptic connections; furthermore, strengthening the sensory-motor base contributes to the improvement of attention. An exercise program for children with ADHD include to moderate to high intensity interval training and cognitive tasks are suitable. The preliminary state of the evidence supports physical exercise as an adjunctive treatment for ADHD at this time.

Abstract:Background: ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactive disorder is one of the most common condition affecting children. It is a neuro behavioural disorder affecting boys more than girls with a ratio of 3:1 and it affects almost 3 to 6 percentage of school children. There are limited number of studies on motor skill training to improve attention, balance and hand eye coordination. Methodology: Quasi Experimental, Convenient sampling, sample size was 30. The Participants for the study were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria and experimental group followed 6 weeks of motor skill training exercise along with conventional physiotherapy. Conclusion: The results of this study showed post-test values of paediatric balance scale, nine-hole peg board test and gross motor functional measure of experimental and control group has a p value < 0.05 which is statistically significant. The study concludes that, motor skill training on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder shows significant improvement in balance and hand eye coordination.

Abstract:Objective: This study examined the effect of a 12-week table tennis exercise on motor skills and executive functions in children with ADHD. Method: Fifteen children with ADHD received the intervention, whereas 15 children with ADHD and 30 typically developing children did not. The Test of Gross Motor Development–2, Stroop, and Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) were conducted before and after the intervention. Results: After the intervention, the ADHD training group scored significantly higher in the locomotor as well as object-control skills, Stroop Color–Word condition, and WCST total correct performance compared with the ADHD non-training group, and we noted improvements in the locomotor as well as object-control skills, Stroop Color–Word condition, and three aspects of the WCST performances of the ADHD training group over time. Conclusion: A 12-week table tennis exercise may have clinical relevance in motor skills and executive functions of children with ADHD.

Abstract:The aim of this study was to compare the impact of 8-weeks of power exercises compared to traditional strength exercises on motor abilities, muscle performance, and functional strength in children with ADHD. A total of 34 children with ADHD were randomized into two groups to receive functional power training ( n = 17, M age: 121.2 ± 16.6 months) and traditional strength training ( n = 17, M age: 116.1 ± 13.4 months). After the 8-week intervention, two-way ANOVA results with 95% confidence intervals showed no differences between the groups in motor skills, muscle power, or functional muscle strength. However, the functional power training group had larger effect sizes and greater increases in total motor composite score (10% vs 7%), body coordination (13.8% vs 4.9%) and bilateral coordination (38.8% vs 27.9%) than the traditional strength training group. The power training group also exhibited catch-up growth with typically developing peers. These findings suggest that power exercises may be more effective than strength exercises for rapid force generation in daily life, particularly for children with ADHD.

Effectiveness of a game-based high-intensity interval training on executive function and other health indicators of children with ADHD: A three-arm partially-blinded randomized controlled trial

Abstract:Background: Children with ADHD demand for effective intervention with minimum side effect to improve executive function (EF) and health well-being. Method: This study used a three-arm partially-blinded randomized controlled trial to test the effects of two different kinds of 8-week game-based training programs (game-based HIIT program, GameHIIT; and game-based structured aerobic exercise program, GameSAE) on EF and other health indicators of children with ADHD, which was compared with a non-treatment control group. Results: A total of 49 children with ADHD completed the program. Analyses of EF tests and parental survey indicated that (i) there is no significant intragroup difference among all measures between pre-/post-intervention tests for two game-based intervention groups. The only significant intergroup difference was observed in self-monitor score of parent-reported child's EF between GameSAE group and the control (large effect). Similarly, cerebral hemodynamic responses also found no significant group effect for all EF tests. However, the time effects were observed in several channels in the GameHIIT group in two EF tests (Color Words Stroop Test and Tower of London Test). No significant change of participants' overall ADHD symptoms was found in the pre-/post-tests for three groups. Nonetheless, further analyses revealed that both of two game-based training programs exhibited the significant positive effects on child's PA levels and the large effects on levels of physical fitness, when they were compared to the control. Conclusion: By this study, a significant enhancement in physical fitness and PA levels were found in both game-based PA interventions when they were compared with control group. However, the effectiveness of game-based PA interventions on improving EF or reducing ADHD symptoms remains unclear. This implies that a larger intervention dosage or a tailored intervention design may be warranted to improve the EF of children with ADHD.
An Exploratory Study of Strengthening Non-Dominant Side of Exercises on ADHD Children in Primary Schools

Abstract:Empirical studies indicate that children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) benefited significantly from exercise interventions. Further investigation shows that strength training of non-dominant limbs improves children's athletic ability and cognitive development. This study tested the effectiveness of a strength training intervention on non-dominant limbs for primary school children with ADHD, evaluating its impacts on children’s motor skills. In this experiment, 15 children with ADHD aged 6-10 years were recruited, including 12 boys and 3 girls. All meet the diagnostic criteria of the American Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) for ADHD. Randomly divided into age-matched experimental and control groups, children in the experimental group received intensive training intervention on non-dominant side limbs, and the control group had ADHD Children are not involved in the intervention. Before the experiment, the children and their parents were interviewed on the basic situation of ADHD children. Before and after the experiment, these children of both groups were tested on the TGMD basic motor skills development test and the SNAP-IV scale test, and the parents and children signed the informed consent. The results showed that (1) After the experiment, the experimental group had significantly better overall level of manipulative motor skills and fundamental movement skills than the control group; (2) For the results of SNAP-IV scale, the experimental group (the non-dominant side limb intensive training group) made significantly better progress than the control group (Again, you need to insert t statistics, degree of freedom along with p value here). At the same time, the attention deficit factor of the experimental group and the control group was significantly different before and after the experiment (p < 0.05). More details are needed on the pre- and post-change for both conditions. The results suggest that intensified training on non-dominant limbs can not only improve the motor skills of ADHD children, especially the control ability, but also improve the attention level compared with conventional exercise intervention. It is recommended that strengthening training of non-dominant limbs can be used as more effective exercise intervention for children with ADHD.

Abstract:Background: Attention problems are one of the core symptoms of Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children. Previous studies have shown that physical activity intervention has a positive impact on executive function in children and adolescents with ADHD, but there is limited research on attention problems in school-aged children with ADHD. There are still uncertainties about the appropriate physical activity interventions to improve attention problems in this population. This study conducted a Meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) related to physical activity intervention for attention problems in school-aged children with ADHD, providing a certain reference for precise intervention in attention problems for this population. Methods: We systematically searched the following databases up to October 2022: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library, to identify RCTs that investigated the effects of physical activity interventions on children with ADHD. Two investigators independently conducted literature screening, extraction, and quality assessment. We performed a meta-analysis using Stata 15.1. Results: In total, we included 10 studies in this meta-analysis. The results indicated that physical activity intervention had a moderate effect in improving attention problems in school-aged children with ADHD (SMD = −0.48, 95% CI: 0.85, −0.07, p < 0.05). Furthermore, subgroup analysis showed that the effect of physical activity intervention was moderated by intervention type, frequency, and period, rather than the physical activity environment or single intervention time. Conclusion: Our study suggests that cognitively engaging exercise is more effective in improving attention problems in school-aged children with ADHD. Specifically, when cognitive-engaging exercise is used as the type of physical activity and the intervention frequency is less than 3 times per week, with an intervention period of less than weeks, it is most beneficial for improving attention problems in school-aged children with ADHD. However, we should also consider individual differences in children with respect to their ADHD symptoms and accurately evaluate each child's specific symptoms before intervention. Abstract:Background: Physical exercise has been recommended as an important nonpharmacological therapeutic strategy for managing attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). We conducted a network meta-analysis (NMA) to assess the comparative impact of different physical exercise modalities on enhancing executive functions (EFs) and alleviating symptoms in children and adolescents with ADHD. Methods: We searched Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, SPORTDiscus, PsycINFO, CNKI, and clinical trials databases from inception to October 20, 2022. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and quasi-experimental studies investigating physical exercise for ADHD-related symptoms of hyperactivity/impulsivity and inattention, and executive functions were included. The frequentist random-effect NMA method was applied to pool the results. Results: A total of 59 studies (including 39 RCTs, 5 quasi-RCTs, and 15 self-controlled trials) published between 1983 and 2022 were incorporated into the systematic review, of which 44 studies with 1757 participants were eligible for meta-analysis. All types of physical exercise were effective in improving EFs (SMD = 1.15, 95% CI: 0.83 to 1.46), and open-skill activities which require participants to react in a dynamically changing and externally paced environment induced the most incredible benefits for executive functions (SUCRA = 98.0%, SMD = 1.96, and 95% CI: 1.15 to 2.77). Subgroup analyses for EFs revealed varied findings that open-skill activities were the most promising physical exercise type for improving inhibitory control (SUCRA = 99.1%, SMD = 1.94, and 95% CI: 1.24 to 2.64), and closed-skill activities dominated by aerobic exercises had a slightly higher probability of being the most promising physical exercise intervention for working memory (SUCRA = 75.9%, SMD = 1.21, and 95% CI: −0.22 to 2.65), and multicomponent physical exercise tended to be the most effective in cognitive flexibility (SUCRA = 70.3%, SMD = 1.44, and 95% CI: −0.19 to 3.07). Regarding ADHD-related symptoms, closed-skill activities dominated by aerobic exercises might be more advantageous for hyperactivity/impulsivity (SUCRA = 72.5%, SMD = -1.60, and 95% CI: −3.02 to −0.19) and inattention (SUCRA = 96.3%, SMD = -1.51, and 95% CI: −2.33 to −0.69) improvement. Conclusion: Physical exercise can significantly help to alleviate the symptoms of ADHD and improve executive functions in children and adolescents with ADHD. Most of all, to promote adherence to treatment, they should be encouraged to perform the physical exercises that they enjoy most.

Abstract:Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of aerobic and neurocognitive exercise with moderate‐to‐vigorous physical activity levels on executive functions (EFs) and sleep quality in children with attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods In a parallel two‐group randomized controlled trial (RCT) design, 80 children with ADHD aged 6‐12 years (Mage =8.46 ± 1.50) were assigned to either a 12‐week combined aerobic‐and neurocognitive‐exercise experimental group (EG) (three sessions per week for 60 mins) or a wait‐list control group (CG). Forty children with typical development aged 6‐12 years (Mage =8.49 ± 1.51) were recruited as healthy controls (HC). A Polar heart rate (HR) monitor was used to track the exercise intensity (60‐80% predicted HRmax) throughout the intervention. Three core EFs (inhibitory control [IC], working memory [WM], and cognitive flexibility [CF]) were assessed by computer‐based neurocognitive tasks, and sleep quality and physical activity (PA) levels were assessed by self‐report questionnaires. Results The results showed that the exercise intervention was beneficial for improving three core EFs, shortening sleep latency and decreasing sleep disturbances. The intervention effects on EFs and sleep quality appeared to be sustained for at least 12 weeks in EG. In addition, children with ADHD after intervention showed non‐significant differences in IC, CF and multiple sleep quality outcomes compared with HC. Furthermore, a significant PA‐EFs‐sleep correlation was found in children with ADHD after the intervention. Conclusion The findings suggest that a 12‐week combined aerobic and neurocognitive exercise intervention appears to be an effective treatment program for EFs and sleep quality in children with ADHD.

Abstract:[Purpose] The purpose of the present study was to determine the effect of a jump rope and ball combined exercise program on the physical fitness the neurotransmitter (epinephrine, serotonin) levels of children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. [Subjects and Methods] The subjects were 12 boys attending elementary school, whose grade levels ranged from 1-4. The block randomization method was used to distribute the participants between the combined exercise group (n = 6) and control group (n = 6). The program consisted of a 60-min exercise (10-min warm-up, 40-min main exercise, and 10-min cool down) performed three times a week, for a total of 12 weeks. [Results] The exercise group showed a significant improvement in cardiorespiratory endurance, muscle strength, muscle endurance and flexibility after 12 weeks. A significant increase in the epinephrine level was observed in the exercise group. [Conclusion] The 12-week combined exercise program in the current study (jump rope and ball exercises) had a positive effect on overall fitness level, and neurotransmission in children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Abstract:Background: Previous studies have shown that physical activity interventions positively affect core symptoms and executive functioning in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). However, comparisons between different physical activity interventions still need to be made. This study is the first to analyze the effects of 10 different types of physical activity on children with ADHD through a network meta-analysis. Methods: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases were searched for randomized controlled trials on the effects of physical activity interventions on children with ADHD. The search time frame was from database creation to October 2022. Two investigators independently performed literature screening, extraction, and quality assessment. Network meta-analysis was performed with Stata 15.1. Results: A total of 31 studies were included, and the results indicated that perceptual-motor training was the most effective in terms of motor ability and working memory (SUCRA = 82.7 and 73.3%, respectively). For attention problems and cognitive flexibility, aquatic exercise was the most effective (SUCRA = 80.9 and 86.6%, respectively). For social problems, horsemanship was the most effective (SUCRA = 79.4%). For inhibition switching, cognitive-motor training was the most effective (SUCRA = 83.5%). Conclusion: Our study revealed that aquatic exercise and perceptual-motor training had a superior overall performance. However, the effects of various physical activity interventions on different indicators in children with ADHD can vary depending on the individual and the intervention's validity. To ensure an appropriate physical activity intervention is selected, it is important to assess the severity of symptoms exhibited by children with ADHD beforehand.

Abstract:Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that negatively affects the inattention, disorganization, and/or hyperactivity–impulsivity in children and adolescents who suffer from it, included cases being reported that continue into adulthood. This disorder impairs social, academic, emotional, psychological, and health system functioning due to its high cost of treatment. The present systematic review aims to analyze the effects of physical activity, exercise, and sports on the executive function in children and adolescents diagnosed with ADHD through the scientific literature. The results show that the practice of physical activity, exercise, or sport produces improvements in executive function in children and adolescents diagnosed with ADHD, mainly through aerobic exercise. A 20 min session of physical activity, sport, or exercise leads to improvements in executive functions in children and adolescents with ADHD. It can be concluded that the practice of physical activity, exercise, and sport generate improvements on executive functions in children and adolescents with ADHD, mainly through aerobic exercise.
The Effect of Running Training on Improving Classroom Attention in Children with ADHD

Abstract:Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a prevalent neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that adversely affect children’s academic performance and behavior in classroom settings. Current ADHD management strategies, primarily pharmacological and behavioral, have limitations, prompting the exploration of alternative interventions. This study investigates the effects of a 12-week structured running training program on improving classroom attention in children with ADHD. Thirty children aged 7 to 12 years participated in a single-group intervention study, with attention, behavior, mood, and physical fitness assessed at baseline, post-intervention, and follow-up. Results showed significant improvements in classroom attention, as evidenced by reduced scores on the Conners’ Teacher Rating Scale-Revised (CTRS-R) and fewer errors on the Continuous Performance Test (CPT). Secondary outcomes indicated notable reductions in hyperactive-impulsive behaviors, anxiety, and depressive symptoms, as well as enhanced physical fitness. These findings suggest that structured running programs may be an effective non-pharmacological intervention for enhancing attention and behavior in children with ADHD. Further research should explore the long-term effects and underlying mechanisms of such interventions and investigate their integration into comprehensive ADHD management plans.

Abstract:INTRODUCTION & AIMS Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders in adults. Stimulant medications are first-line treatments, they have many side effects and do not address common comorbidities such as cardiometabolic disease, depression, and anxiety. Exercise, by contrast, not only improves ADHD symptoms in youth but effectively treats such comorbidities, making it a potentially valuable treatment option. However, exercise efficacy in adults with ADHD has not been systematically reviewed. Therefore, we aimed to summarise the results of acute exercise and training interventions on health-related outcomes for adults with ADHD, including ADHD symptoms, cognitive function, and psychological well-being. METHODS Using PRISMA guidelines, fifteen databases were searched (including grey literature) on 27/08/2020, yielding 22,088 unique publications. Database alerts were created to capture additional studies (n= 2). Screening, data extraction, Risk of Bias and GRADE assessment was conducted by CEHB. RESULTS Seven acute (6 cycling, 1 self-selected, 1 yoga) and 6 training studies (Yoga, Pilates, Kickboxing, Tai Chi, General Coordination, Group Circuit Class, Cycling) were included. Among acute studies, those reporting small-to-moderate improvements in cognitive function were characterised by longer duration exercise (>30 minutes), withholding ADHD medication before exercise, and using cohorts with clinician-confirmed ADHD diagnosis. Among the training studies, only one reported an improvement in cognition following Pilates when compared to an inactive control. It was longer (6 months vs. <8 weeks), prescribed progressive intensity and volume, and had high adherence compared to the non-significant trials. The certainty of evidence was low or very low for all outcomes. CONCLUSIONS Overall, acute exercise may have a small positive effect on cognition in adults with ADHD; however, certainty of the evidence is low. Further research is needed to investigate the impact of different modalities, durations, and intensities of acute exercise and chronic exercise on adult ADHD.

Abstract:Objective. To determine the effect of a physical exercise training program, "HitSportGame" (HSG), on self-regulation of children with ADHD. Subjects and methods. The participants (N = 44) were children with ADHD aged 8 to 12 years (Mean 10.5 SD 1.4) without comorbidity with other neurodevelopmental disorders. Children were randomized to an experimental group and a wait-list control group. The experimental group participated in the Hit-Sport-Game (HSG) training program thrice a week for 12 weeks. The self-control skills of the participants in both groups were evaluated with the CACIA (Child and Adolescent Self-Control Questionnaire) 1 week before and 1 week after completing the entire intervention. Results. The results showed significant improvements with effect sizes from moderate to large in the scales of personal feedback (P = .003; η2 p = 0.183), criteria self-control (P = .029; η2 p = 0.112), and procedural self-control (P = .015; η2 p = 0.131) after the intervention in the experimental group compared to the control group, which showed no difference on any of these scales. The reward delay scale did not show significant changes associated with the intervention (P = .104; η2 p = 0.059). Conclusions. HitSportGame physical exercise training demonstrated favorable effects on some self-control skills such as personal feedback, criterial self-control and procedural self-control of children with ADHD. However, it did not show any effect on the ability to delay rewards in this population.
Effect of aerobic exercise on the improvement of executive function in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:Objective: Aerobic exercise (AE) interventions are beginning to be used as an emerging adjunctive treatment modality in the treatment of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). However, to date, there is no substantial evidence to support the improved effects of aerobic exercise intervention in children with ADHD aged 6–12 years. This study aims to investigate the effect of aerobic exercise therapy on executive function in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder aged 6–12 years. Method: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis using PubMed and Web of Science. The cut-off date was June 1, 2023. The aim was to assess the impact of aerobic exercise interventions on children with ADHD and all randomized controlled trials eligible for aerobic exercise interventions for children with ADHD were included. Nine randomized controlled trials were screened for eligibility for systematic evaluation, and the nine studies were assessed for risk of bias using the PEDro score and the GRADE Quality of Evidence Evaluation System for quality grading of outcome indicators. After testing for heterogeneity, a random-effects model was selected for analysis. Finally, meta-analyses and regression analyses were performed on the core functions (inhibitory control, cognitive flexibility, and working memory) and subgroups of the nine studies on executive function using Revman 5.4 and Stata 16.0. Results: The risk of bias evaluation showed a mean PEDro score of 7.78, and of the nine studies, two were rated as having excellent methodological quality, while the remaining seven had a good level of evidence, and the GRADE evidence evaluation showed that the outcome indicators were all of moderate quality. Inhibitory control [SMD = 0.83,95% CI (0.37–1.29), Z = 3.51, p = 0.0005], cognitive flexibility [SMD = 0.65,95% CI (0.37–0.93), Z = 4.58, p < 0.00001], and working memory [SMD = 0.48,95% CI (0.02–0.95), Z = 2.03, p = 0.04] were statistically significant, with effect sizes of moderate or higher; furthermore, in subgroup analyses type of intervention, duration, intensity, and medication use had different effects on inhibitory control and cognitive flexibility, and the combined IC, CF statistic found that a single category of aerobic exercise ( β = 0.867, p < 0.001), moderate intensity ( β = 0.928, p < 0.001), 6–12 weeks (β = 0.804, p < 0.001), 60-90 min ( β = 0.894, p < 0.001), and the use of medication ( β = 1.202, p = 0.002) were better for overall improvement in EF. Conclusion: Aerobic exercise therapy significantly improved executive functioning in children with ADHD, showing above moderate effect sizes especially in inhibitory control, cognitive flexibility, and working memory. Aerobic exercise therapy can be used as a reference in improving executive function in children with ADHD, but given the limitations of this study, it should be used with caution when applied in clinical settings.

Abstract:The aim of the present study was to understand if sport improves attention symptoms, social competency, and cognitive functions in children with attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The present study was designed as a 6-week, prospective trial, including 12 sessions of education/sports therapy. 13 ADHD children participated in a 90-min athletic activity (sports-cADHD) twice a week, while 15 ADHD children received education on behavior control (edu-cADHD). During the 6-week treatment period, the sports-cADHD group showed greater improvements in DuPaul's ADHD Rating Scale scores, parent and teacher version (K-ARS-PT), compared to those of the edu-sADHD group. The cognitive functions assessed with the digit symbol and Trail-Making Test part B (TMT B) were improved in the sports-cADHD group, while the cognitive functions observed in the edu-sADHD group were not significantly changed. The cooperativeness scores in the sports-cADHD group were greatly increased compared to those of the edu-sADHD group. The results demonstrated a positive correlation with sports and improvement in attention symptoms, cognitive symptoms and social skills. The results of the present study suggest that therapy in the form of athletic activity may increase social competency in children with ADHD, as demonstrated by improved cognitive functions.

Abstract:This case study examines a three-year-old male child with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) who exhibits fine motor impairments, language and speech delays, and delayed social milestones. The therapeutic intervention included a comprehensive program involving parent education, parental behavioral therapy, sensory integration therapy, treadmill walking, music therapy, and the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). The results showed significant improvements in the child's functional independence, behavioral management, and communication abilities, highlighting the efficacy of the multifaceted physiotherapy approach.

Abstract:INTRODUCTION: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder for which behavioural treatments such as exercise are recommended as part of a multi-disciplinary treatment program. Exercise improves executive function in individuals with ADHD, but limited information exists regarding the mechanisms involved in the response. We examined task-evoked brain responses during exercise and seated rest in 38 adolescents (n = 15 ADHD; age = 13.6+/-1.9, male = 73.3%, n = 23 typically developing (TD; age = 13.3+/-2.1, male = 56.5%)).METHODS: Participants completed a working memory and inhibitory task while cycling at a moderate intensity for 25 minutes (i.e., exercise condition) and while seated on the bike without pedalling (i.e., control condition). Conditions were randomized and counter-balanced. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy measured relative changes in oxygenated hemoglobin concentration in 16 brain regions-of-interest. Brain activity for each cognitive task and condition was examined using linear mixed effects models with a false discovery rate correction (FDR).RESULTS: The ADHD group had slower response speeds for all tasks and lower response accuracy in the working memory task during exercise compared to the TD group (p < 0.05). For the inhibitory task, the ADHD group had lower brain activity in the inferior/superior parietal gyrus during exercise compared to the control condition, while the opposite was true for TD (FDRcorrected, p < 0.05). For the working memory task, higher brain activity during exercise was observed, regardless of group, in the middle and inferior frontal gyrus and the temporoparietal junction (FDRcorrected, p < 0.05).CONCLUSIONS: Dual-task performance is challenging for adolescents with ADHD and exercise may modulate neuronal resources in regions such as the temporoparietal junction and frontal areas known to be hypoactive in this population. Future research should examine how these relationships change over time.

Abstract:Pt-Cu alloy octahedral nanocrystals (NCs) have been synthesized successfully by using N,N-dimethylformamide as both the solvent and the reducing agent in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium chloride. Cu underpotential deposition (UPD) is found to play a key role in the formation of the Pt-Cu alloy NCs. The composition in the Pt-Cu alloy can be tuned by adjusting the ratio of metal precursors in solution. However, the Cu content in the Pt-Cu alloy NCs cannot exceed 50%. Due to the fact that Cu precursor cannot be reduced to metallic copper and the Cu content cannot exceed 50%, we achieved the formation of the Pt-Cu alloy by using Cu UPD on the Pt surface. In addition, the catalytic activities of Pt-Cu alloy NCs with different composition were investigated in electrocatalytic oxidation of formic acid. The results reveal that the catalytic performance is strongly dependent on Pt-Cu alloy composition. The sample of Pt(50)Cu(50) exhibits excellent activity in electrocatalytic oxidation of formic acid.
