Abstract:Aptamer with small molecular weight, simple structure, and easy synthesis, which can be used repeatedly and preserved for long time, has important applications in biosensor field. This article describes several commonly used methods for fixing aptamer onto the sensor surfaces, including the gold-sulfur self-assembled monolayer, covalent bond, biotin/avidin affinity, complementary nucleic acid chain connection, as well as current research progress and the characteristics of each method. Development of aptasensors with wide detection range, low detection limit, short detection time, and capability of detection of multitargets will certainly facilitate its application in food quality and safety testing, disease diagnosis, drug analysis, environment monitoring, etc.

Abstract:Developing a versatile sensing toolkit with high sensitivity may revolutionize current techniques for analytical applications. This work reports a sensing strategy through the electrical conductivity of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). By modulating the concentration, aggregation, and surface ligand of AuNPs, a versatile analytical platform for highly sensitive detection based on the electrical conductivity is outlined. The difference in concentration, aggregation, and surface ligand enables a response in the conductivity of AuNPs, offering a great platform for developing AuNPs‐implemented assays using the conductivity as the signal readout. Compared with the plasmonic signal readout of AuNPs, this conductivity‐based sensing method has advantages in high sensitivity, low cost, and simple operation, showing great potential as a powerful technique for versatile applications.

Abstract:Adenosine has received great attentions acting as a potential biomarker for monitoring lung cancer. Most of the reported studies for adenosine detection require large instruments and complicated procedures. Herein, a sensitive, rapid and in-situ colorimetric aptasensor was developed for adenosine detection. Moreover, a homemade biomimetic electronic-eye (E-eye) was established and utilized as a portable in-time detection equipment. The entire measurement can be completed within 20 min, including the combination of aptamer with adenosine or AuNPs and the detection of adenosine. Four different kinds of aptamer were compared and the results showed that the AuNPs-aptamer-biotin system was the most stable and with the widest detection range of 5.0 mu M-60.0 mu M and the lowest LOD of 0.17 mu M. Moreover, the artificial urine samples were also tested with a linear range from 5.0 to 50.0 mu M and a LOD of 0.48 mu M. The results validated that the aptasensor together with the E-eye can be a promising platform for adenosine detection. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:The utilization of AuNPs in therapeutic applications has been accelerated by discovering their catalytic activity consistent with the activity of natural enzymes. However, to reduce unwanted activities, it is imperative to fully understand their catalytic mechanisms to increase efficiency and safety. Therefore, along with other reports, we aimed to classify the enzymatic activity of Au nanozymes based on recent advance in their applications in biosensing and therapeutic activities. The results of the reported experiments indicate that the Au nanozymes can be used in biosensing of a wide range of agents such as molecule (H2O2 and glucose), ions, nucleic acids, proteins, cells, and pathogens. Furthermore, they can be used as potential candidates in inhibition of neurodegenerative diseases, cancer therapy, and antibacterial activities. Biosensing and therapeutic activities are generally based on colorimetric assays and the controlling the ROS level in the targeted cells, respectively. Finally, a brief explanation of the current challenges of the Au nanozymes in biomedical approaches was discussed. Indeed, this review holds a great promise in understanding the Au nanozymes properties and their development in biotechnology, medicine, and related industries.

Abstract:<p>Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) are an essential and inseparable part of scientific application in today's world. These materials garnered more attention, in biosensing, catalysis, bioimaging, energy storage, and disease diagnosis due to their privileged futures. The unique physiochemical properties have been made these nanomaterials an excellent candidate for drug delivery applications as well as electrochemical and optical biosensing. MSNs are able to encapsulate enormous materials in their structural pores and deliver those materials to target, more meticulously. Aptasensor is type of biosensors that use aptamer for increasing selectivity and sensitivity. These are capture by nanomaterials by covalent and non‐covalent linking for many different purpose such as diagnosis and target therapy. The aim of this review is introducing the most recent research progress on aptasensors based on MSNs, including various optical and electrochemical aptasensors, their strategy, and procedure, limit of detection, as well as their advantages and limitation. Moreover, different types of aptasensors based on MSNs is highlighted in this review for targeting and treatment of cancer cells. Although encouraging and interesting investigations have been achieved in this filed, design and mass production and effective biological application of aptasensors and MSNs based aptasensors are still challenging.</p>

Abstract:DNA nanostructures, with their fascinating luminescent and detecting capabilities, provide a basis that can accommodate a wide range of applications. The unique electronic configurations, and physical and chemical properties of aptamer-assembled gold nanoclusters (apt-AuNCs) as a novel type of fluorophore have gradually piqued the interest of the scientific community. Bending DNA sequences and other templates/legends as a stabilizing agent with Au metal has produced an abundance of biosensors, along with catalytic and imaging properties. This review article summarizes the synthesis, conjugation tactics, advantages, and sensing mechanisms of AuNCs aptasensor after providing a brief introduction to the topic. Moreover, the application of DNA/aptamer functionalization has been briefly discussed in the fields of food safety and quality, catalysis, clinical diagnosis, cancer cell bioimaging, detection of cancer cell indicators, and therapy. We also concluded the current obstacles and made recommendations about the future prospects of AuNCs for fundamental research and applications in line with the developments in DNA/aptamer-AuNCs.

Abstract:In recent years, food safety issues have become more serious, which caused extensive study on various methods for detecting food hazards. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have drawn significant attention in nanoscience for the construction of biosensors because of their good biocompatibility, excellent quenching effect, unique surface plasmon resonance (SPR) properties, and high surface-to-volume ratio. Owing to the rapidly increasing demand for technologies, aptamers have widely emerged as biorecognition elements which can bind to targets with high specificity and affinity. Several AuNPs and aptamer-based biosensors have been developed for the detection of different molecules. In this review, we mainly introduce the principles and applications in food hazards detection of optical biosensors, including colorimetric aptasensor, fluorescence aptasensor, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS)-based aptasensor, and chemiluminescence-based aptasensor. This feature article highlights the recent advances of AuNPs and aptamers for their potential applications of the optical biosensor. Finally, the prospects on improving the convenience of aptamer screening technology and the stability of AuNPs application achieving the combination with other technologies to realize large-scale applications are put forward.

Abstract:Gold nanoparticles (Au-NPs) are readily used nanoparticles which finds applications in fields like biosensors, drug delivery, optical bioimaging and many state of art systems used for detection. In the recent years fiber optic sensors have seen utilization of Au-NPs along with other nanoparticles for implementation of sensors for sensing various biomolecules like cholesterol, glucose, and uric acid. The cancer cells, creatinine and bacteria can also be detected with the fiber optic sensors. Given the significance of gold nanoparticles in fibre optic sensors, the current work is a review of the synthesis, the common methods used for characterization, and the applications of Au-NPs. It is important to discuss and analyse the work reported in the literature to understand the trend and gaps in developing plasmonic optical fiber sensors.

Abstract:Abstract: Point of Care Diagnostics (POCD) is quintessential in hospitals and the healthcare sector as the secants uplift the quality of medical care and the life of a patient by facilitating quick identification of the underlying pathological condition. Nanotechnology can provide opportunities and has potential in the development of new-age sensing/diagnostic tools. Owing to extraordinary features (e.g., higher density, effective catalysis, good conduction, biocompatibility, inertness, and greater surface-to-volume ratio), gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are frequently employed in POCT (Point-of-Care-Testing). Gold nanoparticles-based colorimetric methods are widely used in the rapid, sensitive, and selective detection of analytes/target molecules. AuNPs description is critical for their possible utility in prophylaxis, diagnostics, and treatment of an ailment. AuNPs interact with organic/inorganic target molecules to generate colorimetric shift that enables the accurate, precise, and subtle recognition of biologicals (e.g., microorganisms, cellular components, and proteins) and metal ions. This review focused on the need for AuNPs-based colorimetric application in prophylaxis, diagnostics, and treatment in healthcare and reviewed the future outlook of these AuNPs for biological applications. Different synthesis methods of AuNPs, their morphology, and characterization, including their surface functionalization, will be discussed in detail. AuNPs are very much preferable nanomaterials owing to exclusive optical, electrical, and photothermal features. AuNPs-based colorimetric biosensors are simple and possess great utility, yet these offer a robust technique to enable visual, quantitative analysis.

Abstract:During the last decade, advances have been made in nanotechnology using nanomaterials, leading to improvements in their performance. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have been widely used in the field of sensor analysis and are also combined with certain materials to obtain the desired characteristics. AuNPs are commonly used as colorimetric sensors in detection methods. In developing an ideal sensor, there are certain characteristics that must be met such as selectivity, sensitivity, accuracy, precision, and linearity, among others. Various methods for the synthesis of AuNPs and conjugation with other components have been carried out in order to obtain good characteristics for their application. AuNPs can be applied in the detection of both heavy metals and biological molecules. This review aimed at observing the role of AuNPs in its application. The synthesis of AuNPs for sensors will also be revealed, along with their characteristics suitable for this role. In the application method, the size and shape of the particles must be considered. AuNPs used in heavy metal detection have a particle size of around 15–50 nm; in the detection of biological molecules, the particle size of AuNPs used is 6–35 nm whereas in pharmaceutical compounds for cancer treatment and the detection of other drugs, the particle size used is 12–30 nm. The particle sizes did not correlate with the type of molecules regardless of whether it was a heavy metal, biological molecule, or pharmaceutical compound but depended on the properties of the molecule itself. In general, the best morphology for application in the detection process is a spherical shape to obtain good sensitivity and selectivity based on previous studies. Functionalization of AuNPs with conjugates/receptors can be carried out to increase the stability, sensitivity, selectivity, solubility, and plays a role in detecting biological compounds through conjugating AuNPs with biological molecules.

Abstract:Misuse of antibiotics has recently been considered a global issue because of its harmful effects on human health. Since conventional methods have numerous limitations, it is necessary to develop fast, simple, sensitive, and reproducible methods for the detection of antibiotics. Among numerous recently developed methods, aptasensors are fascinating because of their good specificity, sensitivity and selectivity. These kinds of biosensors combining aptamer with colorimetric applications of gold nanoparticles to recognize small molecules are becoming more popular owing to their advantageous features, for example, low cost, ease of use, on-site analysis ability using naked eye and no prerequisite for modern equipment. In this review, we have highlighted the recent advances and working principle of gold nanoparticles based colorimetric aptasensors as promising methods for antibiotics detection in different food and environmental samples (2011-2020). Furthermore, possible advantages and disadvantages have also been summarized for these methods. Finally, the recent challenges, outlook, and promising future perspectives for developing novel aptasensors are also considered.

Abstract:There is a significant need for fast, cost-effective, and highly sensitive protein target detection, particularly in the fields of food, environmental monitoring, and healthcare. The integration of high-affinity aptamers with metal-based nanomaterials has played a crucial role in advancing the development of innovative aptasensors tailored for the precise detection of specific proteins. Aptamers offer several advantages over commonly used molecular recognition methods, such as antibodies. Recently, a variety of metal-based aptasensors have been established. These metallic nanomaterials encompass noble metal nanoparticles, metal oxides, metal-carbon nanotubes, carbon quantum dots, graphene-conjugated metallic nanostructures, as well as their nanocomposites, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), and MXenes. In general, these materials provide enhanced sensitivity through signal amplification and transduction mechanisms. This review primarily focuses on the advancement of aptasensors based on metallic materials for the highly sensitive detection of protein targets, including enzymes and growth factors. Additionally, it sheds light on the challenges encountered in this field and outlines future prospects. We firmly believe that this review will offer a comprehensive overview and fresh insights into metallic nanomaterials-based aptasensors and their capabilities, paving the way for the development of innovative point-of-care (POC) diagnostic devices.

Abstract:Gold Fluorescence Nanoparticles have revealed the great promise in transforming the drug discovery, photodynamic treatment, and cancer detection, among other biological treatments. The integration of these gold nanoparticles into SERS techniques has unlocked a new scope of possibilities, offering enhanced sensitivity, efficient recognition, and specificity in detecting large/small molecular structures. Through their unique properties, gold fluorescence nanoparticles hold tremendous potential to address the crucial challenges in the biomedical field, that promising the significant advancements in diagnosis and treatment methodologies. Nanotechnology has emerged as a pivotal tool in biomedical research, particularly in developing advanced sensing platforms for disease diagnosis and therapeutic monitoring. Since gold nanoparticles are biocompatible and have special optical characteristics, they are excellent choices for surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensing devices. Integrating fluorescence characteristics further enhances their utility in real‐time imaging and tracking within biological systems. The synergistic combination of SERS and fluorescence enables sensitive and selective detection of biomolecules at trace levels, providing a versatile platform for early cancer diagnosis and drug monitoring. In cancer detection, AuNPs facilitate the specific targeting of cancer biomarkers, allowing for early‐stage diagnosis and personalized treatment strategies. The enhanced sensitivity of SERS, coupled with the tunable fluorescence properties of AuNPs, offers a powerful tool for the identification of cancer cells and their microenvironment. This dual‐mode detection not only improves diagnostic accuracy but also enables the monitoring of treatment response and disease progression. In drug detection, integrating AuNPs with SERS provides a robust platform for identifying and quantifying pharmaceutical compounds. The unique spectral fingerprints obtained through SERS enable the discrimination of drug molecules even in complex biological matrices. Furthermore, the fluorescence property of AuNPs makes it easier to track medication distribution in real‐time, maximizing therapeutic effectiveness and reducing adverse effects. Furthermore, the review explores the role of gold fluorescence nanoparticles in photodynamic therapy (PDT). By using the complementary effects of targeted drug release and light‐induced cytotoxicity, SERS‐guided drug delivery and photodynamic therapy (PDT) can increase the effectiveness of treatment against cancer cells. In conclusion, the utilization of gold fluorescence nanoparticles in conjunction with SERS holds tremendous potential for revolutionizing cancer detection, drug analysis, and photodynamic therapy. The dual‐mode capabilities of these nanomaterials provide a multifaceted approach to address the challenges in early diagnosis, treatment monitoring, and personalized medicine, thereby advancing the landscape of biomedical applications.

Abstract:Gold nanoparticles are the most extensively studied nanomaterials for biomedical application due to their unique properties, such as rapid and simple synthesis, large surface area, strong adsorption ability and facile conjugation to various biomolecules. The remarkable photophysical properties of gold nanoparticles have provided plenty of opportunities for the preparation of gold nanoparticles- based optical biosensors, while the excellent biocompatibility, conductivity, catalytic properties and large surface-to-volume ratio have facilitated the application of gold nanoparticles in the construction of electrochemical biosensors. In this review, we mainly detail the gold nanoparticles-based optical and electrochemical biosensors for biomedical application in the recent two years, which have exhibited greatly enhanced analytical performances in the detection of DNA, proteins and some important small molecules.

The NMR spectra of the 19-substituted compounds indicate that the rotation of the 19-group is restricted and that one of the C-19 protons is shielded by the 5,6-double bond.

Abstract:Biosensors have been explored for their application in analytical assays with an increasing reliance on nanomaterials and biomolecule recognition units. Recently, magnetic nanoparticle-aptamer (MNPA) hybrids found crucial for their strengths in target binding, low limit of detection (LOD), enhanced sensitivity, exceptional stability, and superior selectivity. They have been employed for the identification of a diverse range of analytes in biological, food, and environmental samples. However, their integration with conventional sensing technologies remains a challenge. Herein, the current state-of-the-art of MNPA sensors are reviewed. First, the significance of using MNP and aptamers in biosensors is discussed and then the technologies incorporating MNPAs to achieve higher sensitivity and selectivity in quantifying analytical samples are introduced. Finally, prospects and practical approaches to address the existing drawbacks of MNPA sensors are presented.

Abstract:Gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) provide a unique platform for biomedical applications. Au NP-based sensors have been widely employed to detect many different chemicals and disease-related biomolecules. Recent research on drug delivery and therapy with Au NPs has also indicated attractive and promising prospects for future applications. In this invited review we will provide an overview of the use of Au NPs for diagnostic sensing and therapy applications.
Advancements in nanomaterial-based aptasensors for the detection of emerging organic pollutants in environmental and biological samples

Abstract:The combination of nanomaterials (NMs) and aptamers into aptasensors enables highly specific and sensitive detection of diverse pollutants. The great potential of aptasensors is recognized for the detection of diverse emerging organic pollutants (EOPs) in different environmental and biological matrices. In addition to high sensitivity and selectivity, NM-based aptasensors have many other advantages such as portability, miniaturization, facile use, and affordability. This work showcases the recent advances achieved in the design and fabrication of NM-based aptasensors for monitoring EOPs (e.g., hormones, phenolic contaminants, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals). On the basis of their sensing mechanisms, the aptasensing systems can be classified as electrochemical, colorimetric, PEC, fluorescence, SERS, and ECL aptasensors. Special attention has been paid to the fabrication processes, analytical reliability, and sensing mechanisms of NM-based aptasensors. Further, the practical utility of aptasensing approaches has also been assessed based on their basic performance metrics (e.g., detection limits, sensing ranges, and response times).

Abstract:Au nanoparticles (NPs) possess unique physicochemical and optical properties, showing great potential in biomedical applications. Diagnostic spectroscopy utilizing varied Au NPs has become a precision tool of in vitro and in vivo diagnostic for cancer and other specific diseases. In this review, we tried to comprehensively introduce the remarkable optical properties of Au NPs, including localized surfaces plasmon resonance (LSPR), surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), and metal-enhanced fluorescence (MEF). Then, we highlighted the excellent works using Au NPs for optical diagnostic applications. Ultimately, the challenges and future perspective of using Au NPs for optical diagnostic were discussed.
