Abstract:By transforming the past states of a variable to another variable, and returning the evolvement along with various functions of self-feedback, a unique gallery of chaotic maps with coexisting hollow attractors is proposed. Strikingly, these peculiar attractors stand on steep parameter intervals, some of which could only happen when the parameter accurately approaches the integer 1 instead of 1. Some maps also have direct amplitude controllers, which regulate the dynamics together with the initial condition leaving unpredicted complexity. The nested hollow attractors are arranged in phase space with great distribution diversity in the form of homogeneous and heterogeneous multistability. CH32-based digital circuit experiments show agreement with numerical simulation and theoretical prediction. Furthermore, the application in secure optical communication is explored accordingly proving higher performance in the steep parameter interval.

Abstract:Memristor-type feedback provides a unique passage for chaos produced with easy control. In this work, a novel memristive map with amplitude control and coexisting hyperchaotic attractors is designed, in which two nonbifurcation parameters are extracted for partial amplitude control crossing the origin and total amplitude control. Attractor splitting and attractor merging are captured, which lead to five regimes of attractor self-reproducing. In this case, double-cavity attractors extend in the direction of 0[Formula: see text], 45[Formula: see text], 90[Formula: see text] in negative [Formula: see text]-axis, 90[Formula: see text] in positive [Formula: see text]-axis, 135[Formula: see text] in [Formula: see text]-axis forming a specific wall of self-reproduction. Furthermore, the FPGA-based hardware implementation is carried out showing consistent results with numerical simulation. Finally, a high-security chaotic encryption scheme is proposed for the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing transmission system, where the power division multiplexing technique and two-dimensional region joint encryption are effectively utilized. The security of the transmitted information is improved by the various coexisting attractors and nonbifurcation amplitude controllers.

Abstract:Fractals and chaos are two central concepts in the theory of complex systems and play a crucial role in the field of nonlinear dynamics and complexity studies. Despite the relative maturity of research on fractal and chaotic systems, combining them to produce multi-scroll chaotic attractors has received insufficient attention. Firstly, we design a new four-dimensional hyperchaotic system containing the sgn symbolic function, which has no equilibrium point. Next, we delve into the complex dynamical features of this system, via bifurcation diagrams, Lyapunov exponents, and basins of attraction, and we discuss various multistability phenomena. Furthermore, we integrate the Julia fractal process with the new system to create a unique multi-scroll attractor and investigate the effect of the parameters and complex constants in the Julia fractal on the new system. By analyzing the complexity and the Poincaré diagram, we find that the new system incorporating the Julia fractal mapping has richer dynamical properties. Lastly, we performed NIST testing and DSP digital circuit implementation to verify the feasibility and applicability of the new system. The results of this study enrich our understanding of fractals and chaos in practical applications.

Abstract:This paper presents a new three-dimensional chaotic system with a nonlinear term. More interesting is that the system can produce different types of coexisting attractors under one sets of fixed model parameters, which include point attractor, bursting orbit, three kinds of period orbits, and two kinds of chaotic orbits. At the same time, the coexisting attractors have nested structure. In addition, riddled basins are observed on local attraction basins, which indicate that the dynamical behaviors of proposed system are extremely sensitive to the initial conditions. Finally, by setting different initial condition, the circuit can generate multitudinous coexisting attractors. The circuit implementation in Pspice supports furtherly numerical analyses and validates the mathematical model.

Abstract:The proposal of discrete memristors has made memristive chaotic maps based on them an important research topic. In this study, a new two-dimensional chaotic map without fixed points is constructed, and numerical simulation results display its rich dynamical behaviors. The analysis reveals the map's center inversion symmetry and Lyapunov exponent controller. The map exhibits complex dynamical behaviors, including memristor initial-boosting and single-parameter-offset boosting. Embedding the absolute value function within the memristor results in the emergence of localized boosting-free regions. Moreover, a class of multicavity transients is captured that greatly enhances the system's complexity. Ultimately, this map is implemented on the STM32 platform, demonstrating its practical applicability in potential practical application scenarios.

Abstract:To provide more complex and random chaotic maps to applications and algorithms, we propose a boundary coupled modulation (BCM) model. By introducing the rotation-matrix (ROT), the corresponding rotation boundary coupled modulation (RBCM) model are constructed, and a series of hyperchaotic maps are generated with various attractors and numerous fixed points. The shape and size of the multicavity can be adjusted by controlling the parameters. Interestingly, RBCM maps are controlled by changing rotation coefficients (Rot-C, d, e, and θ), which can rotate the attractor of the enhanced BCM at any angle and direction. RBCM maps produce a more uniform topological space, and have multiple pairs of symmetric coexisting attractors. The BCM and RBCM maps exhibit rich dynamical behaviors, high complexity, and strong randomness.To verify the engineering practicability, we apply the BCM and RBCM maps to design pseudo-random number generators (PRNG), and test it with NIST, quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) system. Finally, the FPGA implementation of the proposed chaotic map verifies.

Abstract:This note revisits a 4-D quadratic autonomous hyper-chaotic system in Zarei and Tavakoli (2016) and mainly considers some of its rich dynamics not yet investigated: global boundedness, invariant algebraic surface, singularly degenerate heteroclinic cycle and limit cycle. The main contributions of the work are summarized as follows: Firstly, we prove that for 4a >= c > 2a > 0, d > 0 and e > 0 the solutions of that system are globally bounded by constructing a suitable Lyapunov function. Secondly, Q = x(3) - 1/2a x(1)(2) = 0 is found to be one of invariant algebraic surfaces with the cofactor -4a for the model. Thirdly, numerical simulations for c = 0 not only illustrate different types of infinitely many singularly degenerate heteroclinic cycles near which chaotic attractors or limit cycles generate, but also that some of more degenerate (in term of a pure imaginary pair, one zero and one negative eigenvalue) or stable (in sense of three negative eigenvalues and one null eigenvalue) non-isolated equilibria (0, 0, x(3) , 0) (x(3) is an element of R) directly change into the limit cycles or chaotic attractors with a small perturbation of c > 0, which is in the absence of singularly degenerate heteroclinic cycles and degenerate pitchfork bifurcation at the non-isolated equilibria. In particular, some kind of forming mechanism of Lorenz attractor and the hyper-chaotic attractor of that system with (a, b, c, d, e) - (10, 28, 8/3, 1, 16) is revealed, which are collapses of singularly degenerate heteroclinic cycles and explosions of stable non-isolated equilibria. Abstract:Unlike the high-dimensional hyperchaotic system based on a continuous memristor, the low-dimensional map coupled by discrete memristor (DM) and traditional chaotic map can also generate hyperchaos. However, the hyperchaotic map constructed by two DMs has not attracted much attention. To this end, a generalized two-dimensional dual DM-coupled hyperchaotic mapping model is reported in this paper, and four specific maps are provided. The proposed maps have line invariant points, which can be interpreted as allowing arbitrary real values for the initial condition associated with the DM, and the stability is investigated in detail. Furthermore, the coupling strength-dependent and initial condition-dependent complex dynamics of four maps are studied by numerical simulations, and the dynamical performance is evaluated from the perspective of quantitative analysis. It is shown that the considered maps are capable of exhibiting the three characteristic fingerprints of memristors in arbitrary parameter spaces, and this characteristic has gained attention for the first time. In particular, the complete control of the considered maps by variable substitution is performed, which can generate arbitrary switched hyperchaotic behaviors. In addition, four pseudo-random number generators are designed based on the proposed maps, and the randomness is tested by using the NIST SP800-22 software. In general, the proposed maps can not only generate abundant dynamical behaviors, but also enrich the DM circuits and provide a reference for applications based on chaos. Finally, the developed digital hardware circuit implementation platform verifies the results of the numerical method.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a novel two-dimensional discrete memristor map that is based on a discrete memristor model and a sine–arcsine one-dimensional map. First, an analysis is conducted on the memristor model to understand its characteristics. Then, the model is coupled with the sine–arcsine one-dimensional map to achieve the two-dimensional discrete memristor map. Our investigation reveals the presence of coexisting attractors and hyperchaotic attractors as the bifurcation parameters vary. Numerical simulations show that the discrete memristors effectively enhance the complexity of chaos in the sine–arcsine map. Furthermore, a digital circuit is designed to experimentally verify the new chaotic system. The research results can enrich the theoretical analysis and circuit implementation of chaos.

Abstract:Some existing chaotic systems suffer from issues such as period windows, discontinuous parameter ranges, and dynamical degradation, which seriously limit their application. Therefore, designing high-performance anti-degradation chaotic systems is of great significance. In this paper, a novel hyperbolic sine chaotification model (HSCM) is proposed. It allows for the use of any chaotic maps or linear functions as the seed maps, and employs a closed-loop modulation coupling (CMC) method to extend it to high-dimensional (HD) chaotic maps. Theoretical and experimental results show that this model can effectively improve the Lyapunov exponent (LE) of the seed chaotic map and expand the parameter ranges. In addition, it can also resist the dynamical degradation under finite computational precision. Based on the HSCM, a novel eight-dimensional (8D) HSCM is designed, and implemented through field-programmable gate array (FPGA) in both serial and parallel modes, respectively. Furthermore, the novel chaotic maps are applied to pseudo-random sequence generator (PRNG) and image compression under finite computing precision. Experimental results indicate that the novel chaotification model has greatly broad application prospects.

Abstract:This paper proposes a multi-stable chaotic system with relatively complex hidden attractors. The dynamic performance of chaotic systems is under investigation via numerical simulations such as Lyapunov exponents, division diagrams, and phase diagrams, and it has been further found that the chaotic system with hidden attractors can switch between the two cases of having no equilibrium or having two stable equilibria. Due to the system's symmetry, multiple co-existing attractors can be obtained by choosing appropriate parameters and initial values. It is demonstrated that the system exhibits a multi-stability phenomenon, which means that different initial conditions generate two or more different dynamics. In addition, the variational method is used to explore short-period orbits of a topological length up to 3, which provides a deeper understanding of the essential components of a chaotic system. Finally, circuit implementation verifies its correctness and feasibility.

The underlying mechanism involves two simple linear systems with one-dimensional, two-dimensional, or three-dimensional space functions. Moreover, it is demonstrated by simulation that various attractor patterns are generated conveniently by adjusting suitable space functions' parameters and the statistic behavior is also discussed.

Abstract:A chaotic map with two-dimensional offset boosting is exhaustively studied, which is derived from the Lozi map and shows the controllability of amplitude control. The mechanism of two-dimensional offset boosting is revealed based on the cancelation of offset-involved feedback terms. Furthermore, the coexistence of homogeneous multistability and heterogeneous multistability is disclosed when the offset boosting turns to the initial condition. It is also found that the independent constant term rescales the amplitude of all the sequences without changing the Lyapunov exponents. More strikingly, the parameters for amplitude control and offset boosting are bound together introducing hybrid control. The circuit implementation based on the microcontroller unit is used to validate the theoretical analysis and numerical simulations. This chaotic map is applied for particle swarm optimization showing its stronger performance and robustness in solving optimization problems.
Pathways to hyperchaos in a three-dimensional quadratic map

Abstract:This paper deals with various routes to hyperchaos with all three positive Lyapunov exponents in a three-dimensional quadratic map. The map under consideration displays strong hyperchaoticity in the sense that in a wider range of parameter space the system showcase three positive Lyapunov exponents. It is shown that the saddle periodic orbits eventually become repellers at this hyperchaotic regime. By computing the distance of the repellers to the attractors as a function of parameters, it is shown that the hyperchaotic attractors absorb the repelling periodic orbits. First we discuss a route from stable fixed point undergoing period-doubling bifurcations to chaos and then hyperchaos, and role of saddle periodic orbits. We then illustrate a route from doubling bifurcation of quasiperiodic closed invariant curves to hyperchaotic attractors. Finally, presence of weak hyperchaotic flow like attractors are discussed.

Abstract:To solve the ubiquitous problems of frail chaos and dynamical degradation, a delayed feedback method is proposed in this article to construct hyperchaotic maps. In this method, the delayed feedback control increases the complexity, dimension, and period length of a chaotic map, and the use of modular operation for boundary control further improves its chaotic range and ergodicity. Taking three 1-D chaotic maps as seeds, some new high-dimensional chaotic maps are proposed based on this method. The chaotic properties of the proposed maps are analyzed by the definition of Lyapunov exponent (LE) and stability analysis. Performance evaluations show that the proposed maps have large chaotic ranges, positive LEs, hyperchaotic behavior, high complexity, uniform distribution, multiple coexistence attractor, and strong resistance to parameter estimation and dynamical degradation. To further verify its practicability, the proposed maps are implemented on a field-programmable gate array platform, and applied to the pseudorandom number generator and image compression.

Abstract:Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop new four-dimensional (4D) hyperchaotic system by adding another state variable and linear controller to three-dimensional T chaotic dynamical systems. Its dynamical analyses, circuit experiment, control and synchronization applications are presented. Design/methodology/approach A new 4D hyperchaotic attractor is achieved through a simulation, circuit experiment and mathematical analysis by obtaining the Lyapunov exponent spectrum, equilibrium, bifurcation, Poincaré maps and power spectrum. Moreover, hardware experimental measurements are performed and obtained results well validate the numerical simulations. Also, the passive control method is presented to make the new 4D hyperchaotic system stable at the zero equilibrium and synchronize the two identical new 4D hyperchaotic system with different initial conditions. Findings The passive controllers can stabilize the new 4D chaotic system around equilibrium point and provide the synchronization of new 4D chaotic systems with different initial conditions. The findings from Matlab simulations, circuit design simulations in computer and physical circuit experiment are consistent with each other in terms of comparison. Originality/value The 4D hyperchaotic system is presented, and dynamical analysis and numerical simulation of the new hyperchaotic system were firstly carried out. The circuit of new 4D hyperchaotic system is realized, and control and synchronization applications are performed.

Abstract:Amidst the realm of hyper-chaotic systems, a notable deficiency is the absence of amplitude control and signal polarity. This paper addresses this limitation by introducing a new 4-D hyper-chaotic system with a hidden equilibrium-free attractor. The study focuses on amplitude control, achieved by adjusting a specific parameter, enabling manipulation of variable magnitudes while maintaining the overall signal. The offset boosting technique is investigated, enabling flexible shifting of the attractor in a desired direction. A real circuit experiment validates the proposed system's practical applicability, confirming consistency with theoretical analysis and numerical simulations. Through introducing this new-found, the study holds significant importance for various fields, such as communications engineering and chaos-based cryptography, where precise control of signal characteristics is paramount.

Abstract:Finding a generic method for designing multi-cavity chaotic maps (MCCMs) has been challenging. In this paper, we propose a generic method of multistage step state extension (MSSE) for designing MCCMs. This method is simple and effective to generate various line/grid multi-cavity chaotic attractors (MCCAs). Taking symmetric chaotic maps as seed maps, our method can be applied to construct different MCCMs using 1-D and 2-D MSSE controllers. Using this method, we construct two line/grid MCCMs with the existing parabolic chaotic map and sine/cosine modulation map as examples. The results show that MCCMs not only produce line/grid MCCAs, but also provide line/grid initial-offset boosting attractors (IOBAs). Particularly, the chaotic sequences obtained from these MCCMs have higher performance indicators than those from the seed chaotic maps. Besides, we fabricate an STM32 hardware platform to implement MCCMs, thus verifying the effectiveness of the generic method and the accuracy of the numerical results.

Abstract:Chaos generation depends on nonlinear elements and nonlinear terms in systems of ordinary differential equations. The design and investigation of simple autonomous hyperchaotic systems are of great significance in theoretical interest. This paper presents a novel four-dimensional dissipative hyperchaotic system with only two nonlinear terms. The complex dynamical behaviors of the system are demonstrated with phase portraits, Lyapunov exponents spectrum, bifurcation diagram, Poincaré map and Kaplan–Yorke dimension. Again, the numerical simulation results indicate that the polarity of chaotic signals is transformed flexibly by the offset boosting. Particularly, a symmetric periodic bursting oscillation and bifurcation mechanism are revealed. The bifurcation conditions of periodic bursting are studied in detail by constructing the fold and Hopf bifurcation set of fast-scale systems. The proposed system exhibits symmetric periodic fold/Hopf bursting oscillations with the change of parameters. Finally, hardware experiments verify the theoretical analysis and numerical simulation of the periodic bursting. Its potential value in engineering applications is further demonstrated.

Abstract:Recently, the application of memristors in chaotic systems has been extensively studied. Unfortunately, there is limited literature on the introduction of discrete memristors into chaotic maps, especially into non-classical multidimensional maps. For this reason, this paper establishes a new three-dimensional parabolic chaotic map model; in order to improve the complexity and randomness of the map, it is coupled with a square-charge-controlled discrete memristor to design a new four-dimensional memristive hyperchaotic map. Firstly, the stability of the two maps is discussed. And their dynamical properties are compared using Lyapunov exponential spectra and bifurcation diagrams. Then, the phase diagram and iteration sequence of the 4D memristive hyperchaotic map are obtained. Meanwhile, we investigate the hyperchaotic states, the transient chaos, state transfer and attractor coexistence phenomena of the four-dimensional memristive map. In particular, the special state transfer phenomenon of switching from a periodic attractor to a quasi-periodic attractor and the special coexistence phenomenon of a quasi-periodic attractor coexisting with a quasi-periodic attractor around fixed points are found, which have not been observed in other systems. Finally, the phase-track diagrams and iterative sequence diagrams of the four-dimensional memristive map are verified on a digital experimental platform, revealing its potential for practical applications.
