Abstract:Despite increased attention to the aquaculture environment, there is still a lack of understanding regarding the significance of water quality. To address this knowledge gap, this study utilized high-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA and 18S rRNA to examine microbial communities (bacteria and eukaryotes) in coastal water over different months through long-term observations. The goal was to explore interaction patterns in the microbial community and identify potential pathogenic bacteria and red tide organisms. The results revealed significant differences in composition, diversity, and richness of bacterial and eukaryotic operational taxonomic units (OTUs) across various months. Principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) demonstrated distinct temporal variations in bacterial and eukaryotic communities, with significant differences ( P = 0.001) among four groups: F (January-April), M (May), S (June–September), and T (October-December). Moreover, a strong association was observed between microbial communities and months, with most OTUs showing a distinct temporal preference. The Kruskal–Wallis test ( P < 0.05) indicated significant differences in dominant bacterial and eukaryotic taxa among months, with each group exhibiting unique dominant taxa, including potential pathogenic bacteria and red tide organisms. These findings emphasize the importance of monitoring changes in potentially harmful microorganisms in aquaculture. Network analysis highlighted positive correlations between bacteria and eukaryotes, with bacteria playing a key role in network interactions. The key bacterial genera associated with other microorganisms varied significantly ( P < 0.05) across different groups. In summary, this study deepens the understanding of aquaculture water quality and offers valuable insights for maintaining healthy aquaculture practices.

Abstract:Inter-basin water transfer projects, such as the Yellow River to Qingdao Water Diversion Project (YQWD), are essential for addressing water scarcity, but impact local aquatic ecosystems. This study investigates the seasonal characteristics of eukaryotic microbial communities in the Jihongtan Reservoir, the main water-receiving body of YQWD, over a one-year period using 18S rDNA amplicon sequencing. The results showed that the eukaryotic microbial diversity did not exhibit significant seasonal variation (p > 0.05), but there was a notable variance in the community structure (p < 0.05). Arthropoda and Paracyclopina, representing the most dominant phylum and the most dominant genus, respectively, both exhibited the lowest abundance during the winter. The Chlorophyta, as the second-dominant phylum, demonstrates its higher abundance in the spring and winter. The Mantel test and PLS-PM (Partial Least Squares Path Modeling) revealed that water temperature (WT), dissolved oxygen (DO), and pH influenced the seasonal dynamic of eukaryotic microbial communities significantly, of which WT was the primary driving factor. In addition to environmental factors, water diversion is likely to be an important influencing factor. The results of the co-occurrence network and robustness suggested that the spring network is the most complex and exhibits the highest stability. Moreover, keystone taxa within networks have been identified, revealing that these key groups encompass both abundant and rare species, with specificity to different seasons. These insights are vital for understanding the seasonal variation of microbial communities in the Jihongtan Reservoir during ongoing water diversions.

Abstract:Microbial communities in surface waters are affected by environmental conditions and can influence changes in water quality. To explore the hypothesis that the microbiome in agricultural waters associates with spatiotemporal variations in overall water quality and, in turn, has implications for resource monitoring and management, we characterized the relationships between the microbiota and physicochemical properties in a model irrigation pond as a factor of sampling time (i.e., 9:00, 12:00, 15:00) and location within the pond (i.e., bank vs. interior sites and cross-sectional depths at 0, 1, and 2 m). The microbial communities, which were defined by 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis, significantly varied based on all sampling factors (PERMANOVA P < 0.05 for each). While the relative abundances of dominant phyla (e.g., Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes) were relatively stable throughout the pond, subtle yet significant increases in α -diversity were observed as the day progressed (ANOVA P < 0.001). Key water quality properties that also increased between the morning and afternoon (i.e., pH, dissolved oxygen, and temperature) positively associated with relative abundances of Cyanobacteria, though were inversely proportional to Verrucomicrobia. These properties, among additional parameters such as bioavailable nutrients (e.g., NH 3 , NO 3 , PO 4 ), chlorophyll, phycocyanin, conductivity, and colored dissolved organic matter, exhibited significant relationships with relative abundances of various bacterial genera as well. Further investigation of the microbiota in underlying sediments revealed significant differences between the bank and interior sites of the pond ( P < 0.05 for α - and β -diversity). Overall, our findings emphasize the importance of accounting for time of day and water sampling location and depth when surveying the microbiomes of irrigation ponds and other small freshwater sources.

Abstract:Sediment microbial communities play critical roles in the health of fish and the biogeochemical cycling of elements in aquaculture ecosystems. However, the response of microbial communities to temporal and spatial variations in interconnected aquaculture pond and ditch systems remains unclear. In this study, 61 sediment bacterial samples were collected over one year from 11 sites (including five ponds and six ditches) in a 30-year-old fish aquaculture farm. The 16S rRNA approach was used to determine the relative abundances of microbial communities in the sediment samples. The relationships among nutrients, heavy metals, and abundant microorganisms were analyzed. Our results showed that Proteobacteria, Bacteroides and Chloroflexi were the predominant phyla in the sediments of aquaculture pond, with average abundances of 36.33%, 18.60%, and 14.58%, respectively. The microbial diversity in aquaculture sediments was negatively correlated (P < 0.05) with the concentrations of total nitrogen and total phosphorus in sediments, indicating that the microbial diversity is highly associated with the remediation of nutrients in sediments. The sediment samples with high similarities were discovered by the t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding (t-SNE) method. The site-specific correlations between specific microorganisms and heavy metals were explored. The network analysis revealed that the microbial diversities in aquaculture ponds were more stable than that in aquaculture ditches. The network analysis also illustrated that the microbial genera with low relative abundances may become key groups of microbial communities in sediment ecosystems. Our work deepens the understanding of the relationships between microbial communities and the spatiotemporal characteristics of surface water and sediments in aquaculture farms.

Abstract:Interactions among microbes determine the prevalence of harmful algal blooms that threaten water quality. These interactions can be indirectly mediated by shared resources or consumers, or through interference by the production of allelochemicals. Allelopathic interactions and resource competition have been shown to occur among algae and associated microbes. However, little work has considered seasonal influences on ecosystem structure and function. Here, we report results of our investigations on seasonal changes in the interactions between benthic microbial assemblies and the bloom forming cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa. We show that phosphorus (P) competition and allelopathy by the microbial assembly vary seasonally and inhibit growth of M. aeruginosa. The interactions per unit biomass of the microbial assembly are stronger under winter than summer conditions and inhibit the recruitment of the cyanobacteria, thereby preventing the reoccurrence of cyanobacterial blooms in the following summer. The seasonality of these interactions correlates with changes in composition, metabolic activity and functional diversity of the microbial assembly. Our findings highlight the importance of competitive and allelopathic interactions in regulating the occurrence of harmful algal blooms. Our results also imply that seasonal variation of competition and allelopathy of the microbial assembly might be beneficial to adjust aquatic ecosystem structure and function.

Abstract:Understanding microbial community structure and the underlying control mechanisms are fundamental purposes of aquatic ecology. However, little is known about the seasonality and how trophic conditions regulate plankton community in subtropical reservoirs. In this study, we study the prokaryotic and picoeukaryotic communities and their interactions during wet and dry seasons in two subtropical reservoirs: one at oligotrophic state and another at mesotrophic state. Distinct microbial community compositions (prokaryotes and picoeukaryotes) and seasonal variation pattern were detected in the oligotrophic and mesotrophic reservoirs. The interactions between prokaryotic and picoeukaryotic communities were more prevalent in the oligotrophic reservoir, suggesting enhanced top-down control of small eukaryotic grazers on the prokaryotic communities. On the other hand, the microbial community in the mesotrophic reservoir was more influenced by physico-chemical parameters and showed a stronger seasonal variation, which may be the result of distinct nutrient levels in wet and dry seasons, indicating the importance of bottom-up control. Our study contributes to new understandings of the environmental and biological processes that shape the structure and dynamics of the planktonic microbial communities in reservoirs of different trophic states.

Abstract:The analysis of benthic bacterial community structure has emerged as a powerful alternative to traditional microscopy-based taxonomic approaches to monitor aquaculture disturbance in coastal environments. However, local bacterial diversity and community composition vary with season, biogeographic region, hydrology, sediment texture, and aquafarm-specific parameters. Therefore, without an understanding of the inherent variation contained within community complexes, bacterial diversity surveys conducted at individual farms, countries, or specific seasons may not be able to infer global universal pictures of bacterial community diversity and composition at different degrees of aquaculture disturbance. We have analyzed environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcodes (V3–V4 region of the hypervariable SSU rRNA gene) of 138 samples of different farms located in different major salmon-producing countries. For these samples, we identified universal bacterial core taxa that indicate high, moderate, and low aquaculture impact, regardless of sampling season, sampled country, seafloor substrate type, or local farming and environmental conditions. We also discuss bacterial taxon groups that are specific for individual local conditions. We then link the metabolic properties of the identified bacterial taxon groups to benthic processes, which provides a better understanding of universal benthic ecosystem function(ing) of coastal aquaculture sites. Our results may further guide the continuing development of a practical and generic bacterial eDNA-based environmental monitoring approach.

Abstract:Particle-attached bacterial (PAB) communities play pivotal roles in water organic matter decomposition, nutrient cycling, and the natural self-purification processes. However, we know little about their responses to seasonal environmental fluctuations, under eutrophication in reservoir ecosystems. In this study, we studied the shifts of PAB communities to seasonal environmental fluctuations in tropical China. Trophic state index (TSI) indicated that the studied reservoirs ranged from mesotrophic to eutrophic state with a gradual increase in TSI from 31 to 58. In eutrophic reservoirs, Cyanobacteria, especially Raphidiopsis raciborskii, significantly increased in its relative abundance from wet to dry season, but Synechococcales and Microcystaceae decreased. In contrast, the relative abundance of Clostridia, Bacilli, Coriobacteriia, Enterobacteriales, and Vibrionales were more susceptible to seasonal environmental fluctuations in mesotrophic than eutrophic reservoirs. PAB co-occurrence relationships in mesotrophic reservoirs varied more greatly in response to seasonal environmental fluctuations, compared with eutrophic reservoirs, in terms of topological properties of connectedness, average degree, robustness and vulnerability. Our results further demonstrated that the seasonal stability of PAB co-occurrence relationships was strongly correlative with TSI through mediating key bacterial taxa and community biodiversity. We proposed that eutrophication dramatically reduced the seasonal variation of PAB community compositions and co-occurring relationships in reservoir ecosystems.

Abstract:Planktonic bacteria play a crucial role in sustaining the ecological balance of aquatic ecosystems. However, their seasonal variations in different aquaculture areas within the East China Sea, along with their correlation to environmental factors, have not been extensively explored. In this study, each area with 3 sample points were set up to represent the fish aquaculture area, shellfish aquaculture area and non-aquaculture area. In 2019, we undertook four marine surveys along the Xiasanhengshan uninhabited island, during which we gathered surface seawater samples for both physicochemical analysis and high-throughput sequencing. This allowed us to obtain data about the physicochemical properties and microbial composition in each surveyed region. A short-term eutrophication phenomenon was present in the sea, and the spatial and temporal distribution of planktonic bacteria differed based on the mariculture area. At the phylum level, Proteobacteria accounted for >50 % of the community abundance in winter, spring, and autumn, while Cyanobacteria accounted for >30 % of the community abundance in summer. Because Cyanobacteria blooms are likely in summer, the relationship between Cyanobacteria and environmental factors was studied. Redundancy analysis showed that Cyanobacteria were consistently positively correlated with phosphate. Eutrophication and abnormal proliferation of Cyanobacteria in the study area necessitate ameliorations in the mariculture structure. The variation of genus in Proteobacteria is consistent with that of eutrophication, so some genera in Proteobacteria have the potential to become biological indicator species.

Abstract:The Potyvirus is the largest genus of the largest family of plant RNA viruses, the Potyviridae. The potyviruses infect not only dicotyledonous but also monocotyledonous plants. The potyvirus phylogeny shows that the genus probably originated from a virus of monocotyledonous plants and that it first diverged approximately 7250 years ago in Southwest Eurasia or North Africa. Turnip mosaic virus (TuMV) belongs to the genus Potyvirus and infects a wide range of plant species, most from the family Brassicaceae. TuMV is most studied a potyvirus species for molecular evolution and the genetic structure of populations. The use of computer programs for better understanding of the evolution and the genetic structures of populations of potyviruses and TuMV are illustrated.

Abstract:Increasing evidence suggests that fungal communities are key components of biogeochemical cycles in coastal ecosystems. However, at a regional scale, the major drivers of the seasonal and spatial distribution of fungi in areas impacted by mariculture remain largely unknown. Intensive aquaculture takes place in Dongshan Bay of Fujian, China, a typical subtropical marine ecosystem with multiple environmental gradients extensively perturbed by anthropogenic activities. To better understand the consequences of mariculture on fungal community composition and activities, we simultaneously evaluated the temporal (four different seasons) and spatial dynamics in total (DNA) and active (RNA) fungal communities of Dongshan Bay in relation to several major physicochemical properties. Our results revealed that fungal communities in the Bay were highly diverse, but showed the ubiquitous dominance of Dikarya and the occasional predominance of Glomeromycota, Mucoromycota, Mortierellomycota, Chytridiomycota, Olpidiomycota, and Rozellomycota. Fungal diversity varied much more with season than with the degree of aquaculture activity, for both total and active communities. This notion is supported by co‐occurrence networks exhibiting a clear seasonal pattern. Furthermore, fungal community structure in coastal waters showed distinct relationships with environmental factors varying both with season and in space. For both total and active fungal communities, a combination of environmental variables including temperature, dissolved oxygen, and nitrite exhibited the greatest impact on community structure. Our study demonstrates a distinct spatiotemporal dynamics of both total and active fungi and provides a foundation to better understand the ecological roles of marine fungi in coastal ecosystems in relation to mariculture activities.

Abstract:The gut microbiota of fishes is known to play an essential role in diverse aspects of host biology. The gut microbiota of fish is affected by various environmental parameters, including temperature changes, salinity and diet. Studies of effect of environment on gut microbiota enables to have a further understanding of what comprises a healthy microbiota under different environmental conditions. However, there is insufficient understanding regarding the effects of sampling season and catching site (wild and aquaculture) on the gut microbiota of Nile tilapia. This study characterised gut microbial composition and diversity from samples collected from Lake Tana and the Bahir Dar aquaculture facility centre using 16S rDNA Illumina MiSeq platform sequencing. Firmicutes and Fusobacteria were the most dominant phyla in the Lake Tana samples, while Proteobacteria was the most dominant in the aquaculture samples. The results of differential abundance testing clearly indicated significant differences for Firmicutes, Fusobacteria, Bacteroidetes and Cyanobacteria across sampling months. However, Proteobacteria, Chloroflexi, Fusobacteria and Cyanobacteria were significantly enriched in the comparison of samples from the Lake Tana and aquaculture centre. Significant differences were observed in microbial diversity across sampling months and between wild and captive Nile tilapia. The alpha diversity clearly showed that samples from the aquaculture centre (captive) had a higher diversity than the wild Nile tilapia samples from Lake Tana. The core gut microbiota of all samples of Nile tilapia used in our study comprised Firmicutes, Proteobacteria and Fusobacteria. This study clearly showed the impact of sampling season and catching site (wild and aquaculture) on the diversity and composition of bacterial communities associated with the gut of Nile tilapia. Overall, this is the first study on the effects of sampling season and catching site on the gut microbiota of Nile tilapia in Ethiopia. Future work is recommended to precisely explain the causes of these changes using large representative samples of Nile tilapia from different lakes and aquaculture farms.

Abstract:Atlantic salmon aquaculture is undergoing an expansion of land-based recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), especially for freshwater (FW) stages of production. Juvenile salmon undergo parr-smolt transformation, also known as smoltification and become pre-adapted to tolerate seawater (SW). One aspect requiring study is the development of microbial communities during this time, especially in RAS systems. Here we analyzed temporal changes in microbiome associated with the intestine in Atlantic salmon during smolt production in a commercial RAS production facility and followed the same cohort of fish post-seawater transfer (SWT), using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Microbial diversity and richness showed an increase over time across FW production, but declined sharply and significantly 1-week post-SWT before re-establishing itself with a completely different community structure after 4 weeks. Core microbial taxa could be assigned to three distinct categories; (1) omnipresent, (2) salinity specific, or (3) transient. By including diet and water samples in the analyses, we classified true core taxa associated with the host, those associated with the diet, and transient cores associated with microbial communities in tank water. The rising trend observed in microbial richness in the water may be a consequence of a temporal increase in organic load while dominance of Vibrionaceae may be attributed to the higher temperatures maintained during RAS production and above average natural water temperatures post-SWT. Functional analysis suggests modulation of metabolic pathways post-SWT, but downstream impacts on fish growth and health in a commercial setting remain to be elucidated. A deeper understanding of the interplay between microbial composition and functionality can play a role in optimizing fish performance in tightly regulated RAS production.

Abstract:The term Munchausen syndrome—named after the famed 18th century Baron Munchausen of Germany, whose wide travels and notorious tall tales have inspired literature pieces, several films, and even a popular game— was originally coined in 1951 by Dr. Richard Asher, a British endocrinologist and hematologist who used the term to refer to patients who feign illness.1 Today, most experts use it to describe a rare form of factitious disorder in which patients actively seek to assume the sick role to gain attention, sympathy, and comfort from medical personnel. It is distinguished from malingering because no clear monetary gain, work avoidance, or similar motives are involved. Munchausen syndrome represents an extreme form of factitious disorder, and these patients typically have multiple diagnoses from multiple practitioners they have visited over a prolonged period. Often, they have undergone numerous surgeries and other interventions before being identified and have a high likelihood of previous healthcare employment.

Abstract:The effectiveness of the addition of salt and acetonitrile in the sample matrix to induce narrowing of the analyte zones is demonstrated for the first time in micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC). Using coproporphyrin (CP) I and III isomers as test compounds, the use of sodium cholate (SC) as the micelle in the separation buffer and a high concentration of sodium chloride in the aqueous sample solution (without the presence of an organic solvent) were found to provide enhancement in peak heights for both CP I and III, but yielded very poor resolution of these two positional isomers at sample size of 10% capillary volume or larger. With the addition of acetonitrile as the organic solvent in the aqueous sample solution (acetonitrile‐salt mixtures), baseline/partial resolution of CP I and III was obtained even at large injection volumes, along with significant increase in peak heights for both isomers. Possible mechanisms responsible for the narrowing of analyte zones are briefly discussed. The effects of experimental parameters, such as concentrations of salt and acetonitrile, on peak heights and resolution of the test compounds were studied. Importantly, the usefulness of the present method was demonstrated for the MEKC determination of endogenous CP I and III present in normal urine samples with good separation and detection performances.
Seasonal Dynamics of the Microbial Community in Two Full-Scale Wastewater Treatment Plants: Diversity, Composition, Phylogenetic Group Based Assembly and Co-Occurrence Pattern.

Abstract:The optimal operation and functional stability of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) strongly depend on the properties of its microbial community. However, a knowledge gap remains regarding the seasonal dynamics of microbial community properties, especially phylogenetic group based assembly and co-occurrence patterns. Accordingly, in this study, influent and activated sludge (AS) samples were weekly collected from 2 full-scale WWTPs for one year (89 influent and 103 AS samples in total) and examined by high-throughput Illumina-MiSeq sequencing. The results suggested that the microbial community diversity and composition in the influent fluctuated substantially with season, while those in the AS had a relatively more stable pattern throughout the year. The phylogenetic group based assembly mechanisms of AS community were identified by using "Infer Community Assembly Mechanisms by Phylogenetic-bin-based null model (iCAMP)". The results showed that drift accounted for the largest proportion (52.8%), while homogeneous selection (18.2%) was the most important deterministic process. Deterministic processes dominated in 47 microbial groups (bins), which were also found (~40%) in the AS core taxa dataset. Moreover, the results suggested that Nitrospira were more susceptible to stochastic processes in winter, which may provide a possible explanation for nitrification failure in winter. Network analysis results suggested that the network structure of the AS community could be more stable in summer and autumn. In addition, there were no identical keystone taxa found in different networks (constructed from different plants, sources, and seasons), which supported the context dependency theory. The results of this study deepened our understanding of the microbial ecology in AS systems and provided a foundation for further studies on the community regulation strategy of WWTPs.

Abstract:Seasonal water level fluctuations (WLFs) impose dramatic influences on lake ecosystems. The influences of WLFs have been well studied for many lake biotas but the microeukaryotic community remains one of the least-explored features. This study employed high-throughput 18S rRNA gene sequencing to investigate the spatiotemporal patterns of microeukaryotic communities in the dry and wet seasons with concomitant change of nutrients in Poyang Lake, which experiences huge seasonal WLFs. The results showed that the dry season and wet season had distinct microeukaryotic community compositions and structures. In the dry season, Ciliophora (13.86–40.98%) and Cryptomonas (3.69–18.64%) were the dominant taxa, and the relative abundance of these taxa were significant higher in the dry season than wet season. Ochrophyta (6.88–45.67%) and Chlorophyta (6.31–22.10%) was the dominant taxa of microeukaryotic communities in the wet season. The seasonal variation of microeukaryotic communities was strongly correlated to seasonal nutrient variations. Microeukaryotic communities responded significantly to dissolved organic carbon, total nitrogen, nitrate, and soluble reactive phosphorus in the dry season, and correlated to nitrate and total phosphorus in the wet season. The microeukaryotic community showed different modular structures in two seasons, and nutrient variations were the key factors influencing seasonal variations of the modular structures. Moreover, microeukaryotic community networks based on different seasons indicated that the microeukaryotic community co-occurrence patterns were not constant but varied largely associating with the nitrogen and phosphorus variations under the effects of WLFs. Our results are important for understanding how microeukaryotic communities respond to nutrient variation under seasonal water level fluctuation.

Abstract:Myeloid differentiation is often disturbed in cancer, leading to reduced frequencies of immunostimulatory dendritic cells and an over-representation of immunosuppressive immature myeloid cells, granulocytes and macrophages. As a result of this skewed myeloid differentiation, a highly immunosuppressive myeloid subset becomes prevalent during cancer development; these myeloid-derived suppressor cells are also recruited as a collateral to certain protumorigenic inflammatory processes, resulting in an effective downregulation of T-cell-mediated immune surveillance and antitumor immunity. In this article, some of the important myeloid cell subsets and mediators involved in cancer-related immune suppression are reviewed. Furthermore, cross-talk between tumors and the myeloid compartment, and ways in which it can suppress effective cell-mediated immunity, are discussed, as well as possible therapeutic approaches to tip the balance in favor of antitumor immunity.

Abstract:This study demonstrates both prokaryotic and eukaryotic community structures and dominant taxonomies in different positions of the greatest estuary reservoir for drinking water source in the world in four seasons of one year using 454 pyrosequencing method with total of 312,949 16S rRNA and 374,752 18S rRNA gene fragments, including 1,652 bacteria OTUs and 1,182 fungus OTUs. During winter and spring, the community composition at the phylum level showed that microorganisms had similar structures but their quantities were different. Similarly, obvious changes at the genus level were observed among the samples taken in winter and spring between summer and fall. Microorganisms located the reservoir inlet were founded to be different from those in rear at both phylum and genus level. Air temperature had a stronger effect than sampling location on the microbial community structure. Total nitrogen and dissolved oxygen were algae-monitoring indicators during the whole year. Moreover, Bacillus was an efficient indicator during summer and autumn for bacteria OTUs.

Abstract:In the context of burgeoning global aquaculture, its environmental repercussions, particularly in marine ecosystems, have gained significant attentions. Cage aquaculture, a prominent method, has been observed to significantly influence marine environments by discharging substantial amounts of organic materials and pollutants. It is also one of the important reasons for water eutrophication. This study investigated the impacts of cage aquaculture on microbial diversity and functional potential using metagenomics. Specifically, a comparison was made of the physicochemical indicators and microbial diversity between three grouper aquaculture cage nets in Lingshui Xincun Port and three nearby non-aquaculture area surface waters. We found that compared to non-aquaculture areas, the eutrophication indicators in aquaculture environments significantly increased, and the abundances of Vibrio and Pseudoalteromonas in aquaculture environments significantly rose. Additionally, microbial functional genes related to carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur metabolisms were also found to be significantly affected by aquaculture activities. The correlation analysis between microbial populations and environmental factors revealed that the abundances of most microbial taxa showed positive correlations with dissolved inorganic nitrogen, soluble reactive phosphorus, NH 4 + , and negative correlations with dissolved oxygen. Overall, this study elucidated the significant impacts of aquaculture-induced eutrophication on the diversity and functions of planktonic bacterial communities.
