Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To observe the acupoint distribution and clinical efficacy of lumbar disc herniationi (LDH) with different sensitive types.METHODS:Eighty patients with LDH were randomly divided into a heat-sensitive moxibustion group (group A), a heat-sensitive acupuncture group (group B), a force-sensitive acupuncture group (group C) and a force-sensitive moxibustion group (group D), 20 cases in each one. In the group A and the group B, moxibustion and acupuncture were applied at two or three heat-sensitive acupoints separately. In the group C and the group D,acupuncture and moxibustion were used at two or three force-sensitive acupoints respectively. The treatment was given once a day, totally 10 times. The distribution law of the heat-sensitive acupoints and the force-sensitive acupoints and the change of M-JOA before and after treatment were recorded in the four groups.RESULTS:The frequent heat-sensitive acupoints areas of LDH were at Yaoyangguan (GV 3), Dachangshu (BL 25), Zhiyang(GV 9), Guanyuanshu(BL 26) and Weizhong(BL 40). The major force-sensitive acupoints areas were at Shenshu (BL 23), Dachangshu (BL 25), Tianshu (ST 25), Guilai (ST 29) and Weizhong (BL 40). After treatment, the heat-sensitive acupoints in the group A and the group B were all reduced than those before treatment and the force-sensitive acupoints in the group C and the group D were declined as well (P < 0.01, P < 0.05). The M-JOA scores were obviously lower than those before treatment in the four groups (all P < 0.01). The score in the group A was reduced more apparently than that in the group B (P < 0.05). The score in the group C was declined more markedly than that in the group D (P < 0.05).CONCLUSION:There are diverse acupoints for LDH patients due to different sensitive types. All forms of stimulation can change the functional state of acupoints. Moxibustion is more suitable for heat-sensitive acupoints and acupuncture is optimal for force-sensitive acupoints.
Effects of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Combined with Needle-Knife on Pain and Lumbar Function in Patients with Lumbar Disc Herniation

Abstract:This study aimed for the analysis of the effect of acupuncture and moxibustion combined with needle-knife on pain and lumbar function in patients with lumbar disc herniation. From June 2019 to February 2021, the medical records of 126 patients with lumbar disc herniation admitted to the department of orthopedics of our hospital were selected and divided into the control group (n = 63) treated with acupuncture and moxibustion and the observation group (n = 63) treated with acupuncture and moxibustion combined with needle-knife according to different treatment regimens. After 4 weeks of treatment, the clinical efficacy, pain status, and lumbar function were compared between the two groups. The concentrations of relevant inflammatory factors (IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α, and MMP-2) in peripheral blood of the two patients before and after treatment were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). After treatment, the overall response rate was 93.65% in the observation group, which was higher than 80.95% in the control group (P < 0.05); the visual blurred score (VAS) scores of lower limbs and waist in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, while the expression of pain mediators serotonin (5-HT) and prostaglandin E2 (PEG2) was also lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05); the Oswestry disability index (ODI) in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, while the Japanese Orthopedic Association assessment treatment score (JOA) was higher than that in the control group (P < 0.05). After treatment, the concentration levels in peripheral blood (IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α, and MMP-2) were significantly lower in the observation group than in the control group (P < 0.05). Acupuncture and moxibustion combined with needle-knife is effective in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation, which helps to improve the clinical efficacy, relieve pain symptoms, promote the improvement of lumbar function, and contribute to the reduction of inflammatory factors.
Clinical analysis on the curative effect of external application of traditional Chinese medicine on lumbar disc herniation

Abstract:Objective:To study the curative effect of external application of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) on lumbar disc herniation(LDH).Methods:116 LDH patients met the criteria were randomly divided into 2 groups,58 cases in each group.Patients in treatment group were administrated with external application of TCM,while the others in control group were administrated with physiotherapy of electromagnetic wave.The curative effects were evaluated after two courses of treatment.Results:The curative effect of treatment group was better than that of control group,there was statistical difference between the 2 groups(u=2.830,P=0.003).Conclusion:The method of external application of TCM has an exact curative effect on LDH,and it is worth popularizing in clinic.
Effectiveness and safety of moxibustion in treatment of lumbar disc herniation: a systematic review and Meta-analysis.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of moxibustion therapy in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH). METHODS: Four Chinese databases and three English databases were searched from their inception to April 2018.Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included if moxibustion was used as the sole treatment or as a part of combination therapy with other treatments in patients with LDH. Two reviewers independently extracted the data and assessed the methodological quality using the Cochrane cri-teria for the risk of bias. The Meta-analysis was performed using Review Manager 5.3 software. RESULTS: In total, 16 RCTs including 1186 patients with LDH were analyzed. The Meta-analysis showed favorable effects of moxibustion in combination with massage therapy on the visual analog scale score compared with massage therapy alone [mean difference (MD) = -1.32, 95% confidence interval (CI) (-2.12, -0.51), P = 0.001]. The subgroup Meta-analysis failed to show favorable effects of electro-acupuncture plus moxibustion on the efficacy rate compared with electro-acupuncture alone [relative risk (RR) = 1.06, 95% CI (0.98, 1.14), P = 0.15]. However, acupuncture or massage therapy plus moxibustion improved the efficacy rates compared with acupuncture or massage therapy alone [RR = 1.33, 95% CI (1.18, 1.49), P < 0.000 01] [chi(2) = 2.76, P = 0.25, I-2 = 27%], [RR = 1.15, 95% CI (1.06, 1.25), P = 0.001] [chi(2) = 0.00, P = 0.95, I-2 = 0%]. With respect to the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) scores, acupuncture or massage therapy in addition to moxibustion produced results different from those of acupuncture or massage therapy alone [MD = 5.58, 95% CI (4.15, 7.00), P < 0.000 01] [chi(2) = 0.58, P = 0.45, I-2 = 0%], [MD = 3.61, 95% CI (3.01, 4.21), P < 0.000 01]. There were no significant differences in the JOA score for subjective symptoms, objective symptoms, daily living ability, and other parameters. In six RCTs, no adverse reactions occurred during moxibustion. CONCLUSION: Whether moxibustion is an effective intervention for LDH is unclear because of the small sample size of qualified RCTs and the high risk of bias. More high-quality RCTs that overcome the methodological shortcomings of the existing evidence are needed. (C) 2019 JTCM. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Objective:To observe the therapeutic effect of patients with temperature-sensitive mild moxibustion combined with fire needle at Ashi points on patients with the third lumber vertebrae transverse process syndrome and to probe into a new therapy.Methods:82 cases of patients with the third lumber vertebrae transverse process syndrome,these cases were randomly divided into two groups:the treatment group(42 cases)which received treatment of temperature-sensitive mild moxibustion combined with fire needle at Ashi points therapy,the control group(40 cases)which received treatment of acupuncture combined with cupping therapy.Then observe the clinical effect of patients with the third lumber vertebrae transverse process syndrome with the two different therapy,and compare the difference of therapeutic effect and course of treatment between the two groups.Results:The cure rate of treatment group and control group were 83.33%、 52.50% according to efficacy.There was significant deviation(P0.05)in the score of subjective symptom.It indicated that the treatment of temperature-sensitive mild moxibustion combined with fire needle at Ashi points therapy were more effective to treat patients with the third lumber vertebrae transverse process syndrome than the treatment of acupuncture combined with cupping therapy.Conclusion:The treatment of temperature-sensitive mild moxibustion combined with fire needle therapy were more effective to treat patients with The third lumber vertebrae transverse process syndrome than the treatment of acupuncture combined with cupping therapy.And it can become a new and high-performance treatment for patients with the third lumber vertebrae transverse process syndrome.
Effectiveness of moxibustion alone on lumbar disc herniation: a Metaanalysis of randomized controlled trials

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the available evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of moxibustion alone for lumbar disc herniation (LDH) treatment. Methods: A systematic search of 10 databases (until August 30, 2021) was used to identify studies that reported the response rate, visual analogue scale (VAS) score, Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score, and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) score. Study selection and data extraction were independently performed by two reviewers. Cochrane criteria for risk of bias were used to assess the methodological quality of the trials. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation Methodology (GRADE) were also used to test the quality of the result evidence. Results: Nineteen RCTs, including 1888 patients, met the inclusion criteria. Five studies showed no difference between moxibustion and acupuncture on response rate [risk ratio () = 1.07, 95%(0.98, 1.16), = 0.11]. Meanwhile, six studies suggested that there is no significant difference between moxibustion and acupuncture on VAS score [mean difference () = －0.43, 95% (－0.91, 0.05), = 0.08]. Eight studies implied that there is no significant difference between moxibustion and acupuncture on JOA score [ = 0.84, 95% (－1.27, 2.96), = 0.44]. Two studies indicated that moxibustion may have equivalent effects for treating LDH in the VAS score in comparison with drug therapy [ = －1.16, 95% (－2.63, 0.31), = 0.12]. The evidence level of results was determined to be very low to low. Conclusions: Based on the existing evidence, moxibustion may not be suitable for treating LDH alone, but it may be applied as an adjuvant treatment. Furthermore, welldesigned RCTs with high quality and larger samples are still needed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of moxibustion alone for LDH treatment.

Engineering Science is an emerging area with the potential to provide graduates with the skills needed to meet the challenges of complex designs of cyber-physical systems and shorten their time to market window. To ensure that university graduates are prepared to meet the challenges of a global market, the instructional methodology needs to be broadened. Such technology-enhanced learning is required to provide engineering students with the skills, tools, and training needed to verify and validate the details of complex cyber-physical systems designs and to understand the risk involved in development of inaccurate models. The results obtained from the accurate models can be analyzed to ensure the design of a cyber-physical system will be error-free and the system developed will perform according to the design specification and requirements.

The consideration and comparisons of security algorithms in various Open Systems Interconnection layers is a difficult task, because there are many performance metrics involved. The aim of this novel research article is to present research results for the design of a wireless system revolving around the practical and low-cost implementation of Suite-B algorithms in different layers. Suite-B, promulgated by the National Security Agency, is a set of cryptographic algorithms, including non-repudiation. Abstract:BACKGROUND Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) commonly occurs during spinal surgery; LDH is on the increase in younger patients and is classified as "paralysis" and "back pain.” Sanhanchushi Tongbi (SPST) is a customized prescription. It disperses cold, relieves pain, removes cold from the meridians and viscera, and treats neuropathic pain. However, few studies have investigated its mechanism of pain relief. AIM To observe the clinical therapeutic effects on LDH treated with self-prescribed SPST. METHODS A total of 211 patients with LDH syndrome were divided into two groups: 107 patients in the control group were treated with conventional massage combined with traction, and 104 patients in the observation group were treated with a combination of the control regimen and self-prescribed oral SPST. The patients were treated for 4 wk. Indices of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome score and serum inflammatory factor levels were measured. RESULTS After therapy, the TCM syndrome score in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). The main symptoms, clinical signs, daily activities, and Japanese Orthopedic Association scores in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group after therapy (P < 0.05). The levels of tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6, and C-reactive protein were lower in the observation group than in the control group (P < 0.05). In the observation group, superoxide dismutase levels were significantly higher, whereas malondialdehyde levels were significantly lower, compared with the control group (P < 0.05). The overall efficacy rate in the observation group was 96.15%, which was substantially higher than that in the control group (88.79%; P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Self-prescribed SPST can reduce the levels of inflammatory and pain-causing factors as well as lumbar pain in patients with LDH.

Abstract:Objective To observe the effects of BushenHuoxue decoction in the treatment of lumber disc herniation.Methods 120 outpatients who were treated in the department of orthopaedics of our hospital between January 2012 and June 2014 were selected as the study objects. All patients were diagnosed with kidney-deficiency and blood-stasis syndrome by TCM syndrome differentiation and they were confirmed with lumber disc herniation by pathology. They were randomized into the treatment group and control group with 60 cases in each.The treatment group was treated with internl and external application of BushenHouxue Decoction. The control group was treated with oral methycobal. The pain Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) scores, Japanese Orthopedic Association Scores(JOA) scores, Oswestry dysfunction index(ODI)and adverse events were compared between the two groups before and after treatment.Results All patients finished the follow-up smoothly And there was no lost case. After 2, 4, and 8 weeksof treatment, the improvement of VAS, JOA and ODI in the treatment group was more significant than that in the control group(P<0.01).Conclusion Internl and external application of BushenHouxue Decoction can significantly alleviate pain and inprove function in patients with lumber disc herniation, with few adverse event. It is of great significance in improving recovery and quality of life of patients.
Effects of different moxibustion durations on lumbar disk herniation: a clinical study

Abstract:Abstract Objective To explore the best duration of moxibustion on lumbar disk herniation (LDH). Methods A total of 88 patients were randomly divided into control group and 15-min, 30-min, and 45-min moxibustion groups. The control group was treated with conventional therapy, while the other 3 groups were intervened with different moxibustion durations. Low back pain, dysfunction, lumbar function, and effective rates were evaluated before, in the first week and second week of intervention. Results In low back pain, compared with the control group, the score of the 15-min group had no significant difference, but it was significantly lower in the 30-min and 45-min groups. In dysfunction and lumbar function, compared with the control group, the scores of the 15-min, 30-min, and 45-min groups were significantly higher, and the scores of the 30-min and 45-min groups were significantly higher, but there was no significant difference between the 30-min and 45-min group. In effective rates, there was no significant difference between the control group and 15-min group; the effective rates of the 30-min and 45-min groups were significantly higher than those of the control group. Conclusions Moxibustion has good therapeutic effect on LDH with specific moxibustion time.

Abstract:Objective:To observe the effects of Weizhong (BL40),Ququan (LV8) acupoints and some sham acupoints acupunc－ture on lumbar temperature change of mild and moderate lumbago patients with thermal infrared imager .Methods:A randomized control trail was applied in this study ,in which 75 students from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine who suffered mild and moderate lumbago and scored below 50%of the Oswestry Index ( ODI) were divided into three groups ,among which 25 patients were in the experiment group (acupuncturing Weizhong (BL 40)),25 patients were in the first control group (acupuncturing Qu－quan (LV8)),and 25 patients were in the second control group (acupuncturing sham acupoints ).The lumbar temperature changes were observed separately before acupuncture ,and 2 minutes,5 minutes,10 minutes,15 minutes,20 minutes,25 minutes,and 30 mi－nutes during acupuncture ,and 5 minutes after acupuncture with thermal infrared imager.Results:The lumbar temperature of pa－tients among all the three groups were improved ,of which temperature of the experiment group improved more and lasted longer than the other groups ( P＜0.05),and the lumbar segments L3～L5 showed more obvious temperature improvement than other parts of the body.Conclusion:Both acupuncturing Weizhong (BL40) and other points around the knee improves the lumbar tem－perature,but acupuncturing Weizhong (BL40) improves more and lasts longer.
Clinical Analysis of A Composite Treatment with Silver Needles for Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Herniation

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the analgesic effects of warm acupuncture with silver needles, warm acupuncture with filiform needles and sinew injury-treating manipulation on lumbar intervertebral disc herniation. Method Ninety patients with lumbar intervertebral disc herniation were allocated to three groups, 30 cases each. The medication group received oral administration of celecoxib capsules, an anti-inflammatory and analgesic drug and the other two groups, warm acupuncture with silver needles and warm acupuncture with filiform needles, respectively. Random half patients of every group received sinew injury-treating manipulation as well. An evaluation was made using the Oswestry Disability Index(ODI) in every group before treatment(T0) and after one course of treatment(35th day, T1). Result After treatment, the improvement rate was 96.7% in the silver needle group, 90.0% in the filiform needle group and 83.3% in the medication group; there was a statistically significant difference among the three groups(P0.05) and the improvement rate was higher in the silver needle group than in the other two groups. Analysis of variance of factorial design showed that the ODI score changed in all the three groups after treatment compared with before(P0.05). All the three treatments had a good analgesic effect. There was a statistically significant post-treatment difference in the ODI score among the silver needle, filiform needle and medication groups(P0.05) and silver needles had a better analgesic effect. Warm needling moxibustion plus sinew injury-treating manipulation had a better relieving effect on the pain(P0.05). Acupuncture, medication and manipulation did not produce a marked reciprocal effect and their effects were mutually independent. Conclusion Warm acupuncture with silver needles plus sinew injury-treating manipulation can markedly relieve the pain in lumbar intervertebral disc herniation.
Clinical Observation on the Therapeutic Effects of Chinese and Western Medicine Treatment in Patients with Lumbar Disc Herniation:a Report of 113 Cases

Abstract:Objective:To observe the therapeutic effects of Chinese and western medicine treatment in patients with lumbar disc herniation.Methods:113 patients with lumbar disc herniation received comprehensive treatment of supine lumbar traction,hot pack with Chinese herbal medicine,massage techniques and western medicine.The therapeutic effects after 6 months were observed.Results:Among 113 patients,55 cases were cured,34 cases were markedly effective,20 cases were effective,and 4 case was ineffective.The total effective rate was 96.46%.Conclusions:The supine lumbar traction combined with conservative treatment such as Chinese herbal medicine hot pack and massage techniques can improve clinical outcomes and be used in outpatient treatment for treating lumbar disc herniation.It has characteristic advantages,such as lower cost,simple method,easy to accept and promote in clinic.

Acupuncture for Lumbar Disc Herniation: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Abstract:Objective To evaluate evidence for the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Methods Electronic databases were searched to identify randomised controlled trials (RCTs) of acupuncture for LDH. A meta-analysis was conducted using RevMan 5.3 and the evidence level was assessed using GRADE methodology. Results Thirty RCTs involving 3503 participants were included in the study. Meta-analysis showed that acupuncture had a higher total effective rate than lumbar traction (RR=1.1, 95% CI 1.05 to 1.15; p<0.001), ibuprofen (RR=1.24, 95% CI 1.03 to 1.48; p=0.02), diclofenac sodium (RR=1.44, 95% CI 1.24 to 1.67; p<0.001) and meloxicam (RR=1.16, 95% CI 1.03 to 1.31; p=0.01). Acupuncture was also better than lumbar traction (SMD −1.33, 95% CI −1.82 to −0.84; p<0.001) and diclofenac sodium (SMD −1.36, 95% CI −2.59 to −0.13; p=0.03) in terms of visual analogue scale (VAS) scores, and better than lumbar traction (SMD 0.96, 95% CI 0.48 to 1.45; p=0.0001) with respect to Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) scores. In addition, the total effective rate in five individual trials was greater for acupuncture than for mannitol plus dexamethasone and mecobalamin, ibuprofen plus fugui gutong capsule, loxoprofen, mannitol plus dexamethasone and huoxue zhitong decoction, respectively. Additionally, two individual trials showed a superior effect of acupuncture in VAS scores comparedwith ibuprofen or mannitol plus dexamethasone, respectively. Conclusions Acupuncture showed a more favourable effect in the treatment of LDH than lumbar traction, ibuprofen, diclofenac sodium, meloxicam, mannitol plus dexamethasone and mecobalamin, fugui gutong capsule plus ibuprofen, mannitol plus dexamethasone, loxoprofen and huoxue zhitong decoction. However, further rigorously designed, large-scale RCTs are needed to confirm these findings.

Abstract:Abstract Background: This study aims to explore the clinical efficacy of radiofrequency ozone and injection of anti-inflammatory analgesic solution into the internal orifice of nerve root combined with traditional Chinese medicine hook operation in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation. Methods: The patients with lumbar disc herniation in our hospital from December 20, 2017 to June 19, 2019 were selected as the main research subjects, and the patients were numbered according to the order of their first visits, and the included patients were divided into treatment group and control group using random number table method. Patients in the treatment group were treated with radiofrequency ozone and injection of anti-inflammatory analgesic solution into the internal orifice of nerve root combined with traditional Chinese medicine hook operation. Patients in the control group were treated with traditional lumbar intervertebral disc radiofrequency treatment. The clinical treatment effects of the two groups were observed. Results: A total of 113 patients were included in this study, of which 73 were in the treatment group and 40 were in the control group. The results of the study showed that the NRS scores of patients in the treatment group before treatment were 5±1.68 points, and the NRS scores were 2±0.78 points, 1±0.54 points, and 1±0.77 points 1 month, 3 months, and 1 year after treatment, respectively. The NRS scores of patients in the control group were 3±0.48 points, 2±0.63 points, and 2±0.85 points 1 month, 3 months, and 1 year after treatment. Compared with before treatment and the control group, there were significant differences (P<0.01). Conclusion: Compared with single lumbar intervertebral disc radiofrequency treatment, radiofrequency ozone and injection of anti-inflammatory analgesic solution into the internal orifice of nerve root combined with hook operation can obtain good short-term and medium-term effects in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation. It is a safe and effective minimally invasive treatment method.
Effect of three-volt moxibustion with helium-neon laser irradiation on quality of care in patients with lumbar radiculopathy spondylosis

Abstract:BACKGROUND Lumbar radiculopathy spondylosis is a relatively common orthopedic disease with a high incidence rate. It most commonly occurs in the lumbar 4-5 and lumbar 5-sacral 1 vertebrae, which account for approximately 95% of cases. It mostly occurs in people aged 30-50 years old and greatly affects their quality of life. AIM To determine the effect of triple-voltage acupuncture combined with helium-neon laser irradiation on the quality of care and improvement of symptoms in patients with lumbar radiculopathy spondylolisthesis. METHODS In this study, we selected 120 patients with lumbar radiculopathy spondylosis who were treated at our hospital between June 2019 to June 2020. The patients were divided into control and observation groups according to the random number table method, with 60 patients in each group. Patients in the observation group were treated with three-volt moxibustion combined with helium-neon laser irradiation, and those in the control group were treated with lumbar traction. After 1 month of treatment, the lumbar pain scores, lumbar spine motor functions, clinical treatment effects, and nursing satisfaction of the two groups were compared. RESULTS The results showed that acupuncture combined with laser irradiation significantly improved the patients' clinical symptoms, i.e. , reduced their low back pain, significantly lower numerical rating scale pain scores in the observation group than in the control group, and better lumbar spine motility than in the control group, compared to lumbar traction. In addition, they were cared for. The treatment effectiveness rate of the observation group was 95.5%, which was significantly higher than that of the control group (81.67%). Satisfaction with care was higher than 90 points in both groups, but the difference was not statistically significant. CONCLUSION Our study provides a clinical rationale for the future treatment of patients with lumbar spine disease. However, further extensive research is needed for validation.

Combined Therapies of Modified Taiyi Miraculous Moxa Roll and Cupping for Patients with Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Herniation

Abstract:Lumbar intervertebral disc herniation is a kind of syndrome caused by stimulation or pressure of nerve root and cauda equina due to intervertebral disc disorder, fibrous ring rupture, and pulpiform nucleus protrusion. Application of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) including acupuncture therapy and cupping therapy is unique and effective treatment for lumbar intervertebral disc herniation in China. Hence, we try to investigate the combined clinical efficacy of modified Taiyi miraculous moxa roll and cupping therapy on patients with lumbar intervertebral disc herniation. Seventy patients were randomly assigned into combined treatment group ( n = 35 ) and control group ( n = 35 ). The treatment group received combined therapy of modified Taiyi miraculous moxa roll and cupping therapy, while control group received acupuncture therapy alone. Diagnostic criteria of TCM syndrome, Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score, and simplified McGill pain questionnaire (MPQ) were used to evaluate the therapy. 11 and 13 out of 35 subjects in the combined treatment group had improvement > 75% and between 50% and 75%, respectively. The corresponding number was 2 and 22 of 35 subjects in the acupuncture group. There was significant difference in the clinical efficacy between the treatment group and control group ( P = 0.036 ). The scores of JOA and MPQ detected in the patients of the two groups ( P < 0.05 ) also showed statistically significant differences. Moreover, no serious adverse events occurred in the patients, who received cupping therapy or acupuncture. The combined or alone therapies can effectively improve the treatment efficacy in the patients with lumbar intervertebral disc herniation, while the combined therapies show more comparative effectiveness. Furthermore, the combined therapies are potentially safe and cost-effective and also benefit the improvement of short-term pain. Therefore, the combined therapies of the two ancient TCM deserve further clinical applications.

Abstract:In clinical practice, lumbar disc herniation is also called lumbar disc herniation due to the rupture of the annulus fibrosus. The degenerative changes of the nucleus pulposus, annulus fibrosus, cartilage plate and other positions with different degrees and symptoms make it difficult to bear excessive external force, which leads to the increase of external load. For patients with lumbar disc herniation, acupuncture has the functions of dredging meridians, promoting blood circulation, and harmonizing qi and blood, and can improve local blood circulation through acupuncture. Relieve muscle spasm and dilate blood vessels, which can play a therapeutic or auxiliary role in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation. Acupuncture therapy is generally divided into general acupuncture, electroacupuncture, acupuncture plus moxibustion, acupuncture plus massage therapy, etc., which have good clinical effects. Therefore, this paper adopts the random control method to study and discuss the curative effect analysis of acupuncture, massage and rehabilitation nursing intervention on patients with lumbar disc herniation. There are many reports on the clinical observation of acupuncture in the treatment of lumbar protrusion. At the same time, supplemented by massage, it can open the channels of patients, regulate their qi and blood, promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, relieve the muscle tension of patients, and at the same time act on protrusions to promote their movement or retraction, and improve the state of patients' back.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Ma's bamboo-based medicinal moxibustion for low back pain in LDH. Methods: A total of 312 LDH patients with low back pain were randomized to receive Ma's bamboo-based medicinal moxibustion (MBMM) or acupuncture (AT). The primary efficacy measure was the change of Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) on the 14th day compared with that at baseline. The secondary efficacy measures included VAS score, Oswestry disability index (ODI), modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association (M-JOA) score, and the content of β-endorphin (β-EP) and substance-P (SP). The safety measures included the occurrence of adverse events and the changes in laboratory indicators. Results: In total, 304 patients were incorporated for the analysis of efficacy, including 96 males and 208 females, aged 21– 65 years. There was no statistically significant difference in the change of VAS score between the two groups on the 14th day [mean difference (95% CI) = − 2.31 (− 2.48, − 2.13) and − 2.28 (− 2.45, − 2.11), respectively; p = 0.819]. The VAS, ODI, and M-JOA scores changed after the intervention in both groups ( p < 0.001), with increased β-EP content ( p = 0.014, p = 0.032) and decreased SP content ( p < 0.001, p = 0.048). The ODI score ( p = 0.039) and M-JOA score ( p = 0.032) of the MBMM group on the 28th day were lower than those of the AT group. Conclusion: The efficacy of Ma's bamboo-based medicinal moxibustion therapy in relieving low back pain of LDH patients is comparable to that of acupuncture, and it has post-effect advantages in improving lumbar dysfunction and daily living ability, which can be used as a safe and effective alternative method for LDH treatment. Keywords: LDH, low back pain, Ma's bamboo-based medicinal moxibustion, acupuncture, randomized controlled trial LDH refers to a clinical syndrome in which the nucleus pulposus migrates through the damaged annulus fibrosus and protrudes around due to external force or intervertebral disc degeneration to compress and stimulate the nerve root or spinal cord, inducing symptoms such as low back pain, sciatica, lower limb sensory disturbance, etc. 1 LDH has a prevalence of about 1% and involves L4/5 and L5/S1 segments commonly. 2 Low back pain is the initial and main symptom of LDH, 3 as well as the leading cause of disability and decreased productivity worldwide, 4 and LDH has been recognized to be the most common disease causing low back pain. 5 Therefore, the occurrence of LDH may induce huge individual, family, and socioeconomic burden. At present, it is believed that the pathogenesis of LDH may be explained by mechanical compression, inflammatory stimulation, and autoimmune reaction. 6 It can be induced and aggravated by genetic factors, trauma, smoking, obesity, pregnancy, long-term unreasonable exercise, etc. 7 Surgery for LDH is necessary when the symptoms are not significantly improved after continuous conservative treatment. However, there may be postoperative intractable complications such as unstable spinal force line, recurrent protrusion, and pain. 8 Currently, it is believed that only 1–5% of patients need surgical treatment, 9 about 15–25% of which still have symptoms of low back pain after surgery. 10 Therefore, conservative treatment such as exercise, manual therapy, spinal traction, physical therapy, oral medicine (anti-inflammatory and analgesic, neurotrophic treatment), and epidural steroid injection are widely considered as the first therapeutic option for LDH. 11– -Abstract Truncated-
