Abstract:Magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO-NPs) were synthesized using the fungal strain Aspergillus terreus S1 to overcome the disadvantages of chemical and physical methods. The factors affecting the biosynthesis process were optimized as follows: concentration of Mg(NO3)2·6H2O precursor (3 mM), contact time (36 min), pH (8), and incubation temperature (35 °C). The characterization of biosynthesized MgO-NPs was accomplished using UV-vis spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy—energy dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and dynamic light scattering (DLS). Data confirmed the successful formation of crystallographic, spherical, well-dispersed MgO-NPs with a size range of 8.0–38.0 nm at a maximum surface plasmon resonance of 280 nm. The biological activities of biosynthesized MgO-NPs including antimicrobial activity, biotreatment of tanning effluent, and chromium ion removal were investigated. The highest growth inhibition of pathogenic Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans was achieved at 200 μg mL–1 of MgO-NPs. The biosynthesized MgO-NPs exhibited high efficacy to decolorize the tanning effluent (96.8 ± 1.7% after 150 min at 1.0 μg mL–1) and greatly decrease chemical parameters including total suspended solids (TSS), total dissolved solids (TDS), biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and conductivity with percentages of 98.04, 98.3, 89.1, 97.2, and 97.7%, respectively. Further, the biosynthesized MgO-NPs showed a strong potential to remove chromium ions from the tanning effluent, from 835.3 mg L–1 to 21.0 mg L–1, with a removal percentage of 97.5%.

Abstract:Magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgONPs) have emerged as effective antibacterial agents with unique physiochemical properties. Here, we report antibacterial activity of MgONPs produced by using Acinetobacter johnsonii strain RTN1 against rice pathogen Acidovorax oryzae for the first time. The physico-chemical and optical properties of biogenic MgONPs were elucidated by using UV-vis spectroscopy, FTIR, XRD, EDS, SEM, and TEM. Biogenic MgONPs showed substantial antibacterial activity (35.2 +/- 0.61 mm zone of inhibition) against A. oryzae at 20 mg mL(-1) and significantly reduced cell density (80.83% MIC at OD600) of pathogen in broth culture. The ultrastructure studies revealed the morphological disruptions in MgONPs-treated A. oryzae cells as compared to control. Abstract:Abstract Endophytic fungus Penicillium crustosum EP-1 was used to create spherical shape magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO-NPs). The MgO-NPs possess a crystalline structure with sizes of 8–35 nm. The weight percentages of Mg and O were 42.44% and 30.13%, respectively, as shown in energy-dispersive X-ray analysis. In addition, analysis involving dynamic light scattering indicated the uniformity of MgO-NPs within the colloidal solution. These NPs displayed a polydispersity index of 0.341 and held a surface charge of −29.7 mV. A field experimental was carried out to assess the outcome of foliar spraying of MgO-NPs at 5, 10, and 20 ppm on the growth, yield, and metabolic activities of Nigella sativa L. Our results indicated that MgO-NPs significantly enhanced various growth parameters, including chlorophyll content (both a and b), total carotenoids, carbohydrate and protein levels in both shoots and seeds, as well as free proline concentration, compared to the control plants at both 55 and 75 days after planting. In addition, all yield traits were markedly increased. Moreover, high-performance liquid chromatography is employed for the identification of phenolic compounds within the seeds. Data indicated that sex phenolic acids, two phenols, and five flavonoids were present with high concentrations due to MgO-NPs treatment as opposed to untreated plants.

An Eco-Friendly Approach to the Control of Pathogenic Microbes and Anopheles stephensi Malarial Vector Using Magnesium Oxide Nanoparticles (Mg-NPs) Fabricated by Penicillium chrysogenum

Abstract:The discovery of eco-friendly, rapid, and cost-effective compounds to control diseases caused by microbes and insects are the main challenges. Herein, the magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO-NPs) are successfully fabricated by harnessing the metabolites secreted by Penicillium chrysogenum. The fabricated MgO-NPs were characterized using UV-Vis, XRD, TEM, DLS, EDX, FT-IR, and XPS analyses. Data showed the successful formation of crystallographic, spherical, well-dispersed MgO-NPs with sizes of 7-40 nm at a maximum wavelength of 250 nm. The EDX analysis confirms the presence of Mg and O ions as the main components with weight percentages of 13.62% and 7.76%, respectively. The activity of MgO-NPs as an antimicrobial agent was investigated against pathogens Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans, and exhibited zone of inhibitions of 12.0 ± 0.0, 12.7 ± 0.9, 23.3 ± 0.8, 17.7 ± 1.6, and 14.7 ± 0.6 mm respectively, at 200 µg mL-1. The activity is decreased by decreasing the MgO-NPs concentration. The biogenic MgO-NPs exhibit high efficacy against different larvae instar and pupa of Anopheles stephensi, with LC50 values of 12.5-15.5 ppm for I-IV larvae instar and 16.5 ppm for the pupa. Additionally, 5 mg/cm2 of MgO-NPs showed the highest protection percentages against adults of Anopheles stephensi, with values of 100% for 150 min and 67.6% ± 1.4% for 210 min.
Biosynthesis and Characterization of Magnesium Oxide and Manganese Dioxide Nanoparticles Using Matricaria Chamomilla L. Extract and Its Inhibitory Effect on Acidovorax Oryzae Strain RS-2

Abstract:Abstract Bacterial brown stripe (BBS) is one of the most economically important diseases of rice caused by Acidovorax oryzae (Ao). In order to ensure food security and safe consumption, the use of non-chemical approach is necessary. In this study, MgO and MnO2 were synthesized using chamomile flower extract. The synthesized MgO and MnO2 nanoparticles were characterized by UV–Visible spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission/scanning electron microscopy. The sizes were 18.2 and 16.5 nm for MgO and MnO2 nanoparticles, respectively. The MgO and MnO2 nanoparticles reduced the growth of Ao strain RS-2 by 62.9 and 71.3%, respectively. Also, the biofilm formation and swimming motility were significantly reduced compared to the control. The antibacterial mechanisms of MgO and MnO2 nanoparticles against RS-2 reveals that MgO and MnO2 nanoparticles penetrated the cells and destroyed the cell membrane leading to leakage of cytoplasmic content. Also, the flow cytometry observation reveals that the apoptotic cell ratio of RS-2 increased from 0.97% to 99.52 and 99.94% when treated with MgO and MnO2 nanoparticles, respectively. Altogether, the results suggest that the synthesized MgO and MnO2 nanoparticles could serve as an alternative approach method for the management of BBS.
Biogenic Synthesis of Photosensitive Magnesium Oxide Nanoparticles Using Citron Waste Peel Extract and Evaluation of Their Antibacterial and Anticarcinogenic Potential

Abstract:Background. Magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgONPs) have been fabricated by several approaches, including green chemistry approach due to diverse application and versatile features. Objectives. The current study aimed to prepare a convenient, biocompatible, and economically viable MgONPs using waste citron peel extract (CP‐MgONPs) to evaluate their biological applications. Methods. The CP‐MgONPs were synthesized by a sustainable approach from extract of waste citron peel both as capping and reducing agents without use of any hazardous material. The physicochemical features of formed CP‐MgONPs were determined by sophisticated analytical and microscopic techniques. The biogenic CP‐MgONPs were examined for their antibacterial, anticarcinogenic, and photocatalytic attributes. Results. A prominent absorption peak in the UV‐Vis spectra at 284 nm was the distinguishing characteristic of the CP‐MgONPs. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) reveals polyhedral morphology of nanoparticles with slight agglomeration of CP‐MgONPs. The CP‐MgONPs exerted excellent antibacterial potencies against six bacterial strains. The CP‐MgONPs displayed significant susceptibility towards E. coli (20.72 ± 0.33 mm) and S. aureus (19.52 ± 0.05 mm) with the highest inhibition zones. The anticancer effect of CP‐MgONPs was evaluated against HepG2 (IC 50 : 15.3 μg·mL −1 ) cancer cells and exhibited potential anticancer activity. A prompt inversion of cellular injury manifested as impairment of the integrity of the cell membrane, apoptosis, and oxidative stress was observed in treated cells with CP‐MgONPs. The biosynthesized CP‐MgONPs also conducted successful photocatalytic potential as much as MgO powder under the UV‐light using acid orange 8 (AO‐8) dye. The degradation performance of CP‐MgONPs showed over 94% photocatalytic degradation efficiency of acid orange 8 (AO‐8) dyes within a short time. Conclusions. Outcomes of this research signify that biogenic CP‐MgONPs may be advantageous at low concentrations, with positive environmental impacts.

Abstract:Magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO NPs) represent an interesting inorganic material widely utilized across various fields including sensing, antimicrobial applications, optical coatings, water purification, fuel additives, absorbents, and catalysis, owing to their exceptional broad energy band gap, surface affinity, and strong chemical and thermal durability. In this investigation, MgO NPs were successfully synthesized through a green approach employing fruit extract from the gingerbread tree (Hyphaene thebaica). Analysis via scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) confirmed their agglomerated quasi-spherical shape with a size range of 20-60 nm. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern exhibited prominent peaks at planes (200) and (220), indicating the high crystallinity of MgO NPs with a crystallite size of 32.6 ± 5 nm while Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis highlighted the composition comprises 40.47% Magnesium and 48.64% Oxygen by weight. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) revealed characteristic Mg-O bonds through peaks at 560 cm-1 and 866 cm-1, while Raman spectroscopy affirmed the cubic structure of MgO. Subsequently, the photocatalytic performance of MgO NPs under visible light irradiation was evaluated. Remarkably, the addition of 1 g/L of MgO nano-catalyst resulted in a degradation efficiency of 98% after 110 min on methylene blue dye, showcasing the high catalytic activity of MgO NPs. This remarkable photocatalytic efficiency emphasizes the potential of MgO NPs in environmental remediation.

Abstract:Water pollution by synthetic dyes, particularly acid black 1, poses a significant environmental challenge. The present study has addressed this issue by synthesizing novel magnesium oxide (MgO) nanocomposites using extracts from Padina sanctae crucis (Psc) and Sargassum hystrix (Sh) algae via a sol-gel process. The primary objective was to evaluate the efficacy of these nanocomposites in removing acid black 1 dye from aqueous solutions. The synthesized materials were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The results show the successful synthesis of MgONPs and MgO@Sh and MgO@Psc NPs with approximate sizes of 45.64–65.64, 52.14–59.09 and 39.19–58.30 nm. Batch mode experiments were conducted to assess the influence of contact time, pH, and adsorbent dosage on dye removal efficiency. The results demonstrated that at pH 6, increasing the adsorbent dosage from 0.5 to 2 g/L enhanced the dye removal efficiency from 41.6% to 59.1% for MgO@Psc and from 43.4% to 64.1% for MgO@Sh. The Sips isotherm model and intra-particle diffusion kinetic model provided the best fit to the experimental data. The negative values of ΔG° indicated, which the adsorption process is more spontaneous at higher temperatures. This study highlights the potential of MgO@Psc and MgO@Sh nanocomposites as effective adsorbents for acid black 1 removal, offering a promising solution for water purification.

Abstract:Abstract Currently, nanotechnology is developing at an exponential rate because of its widespread applications in various fields of life sciences. Traditionally, nanoparticles are fabricated through a variety of physical and chemical approaches but because of their limited efficiency in biomedical applications, biogenic synthesis of nanoparticles has gained much attention. Biogenically fabricated magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgONPs) possess unique features that enabled their use in therapeutics and environmental biotechnology. Biogenically MgONPs can be fabricated using plant extracts ( Manihot esculenta, Rhizophora lamarckii, Ocimum sanctum , rosemary, Bauhinia purpurea , and others), bacteria ( S. coelicolor , A. johnsonii RTN), fungi ( Aspergillus flavus TFR‐12, Aspergillus brasiliensis TFR 2, white‐button mushroom's) and algae ( S. whigti ). These biogenically synthesized MgONPs are being reported as antifungal, antioxidant, antibacterial, antipyretic, anti‐inflammatory, and anticancer agents. Moreover, their photocatalytic activity is far being discovered against certain organic dyes. This review focuses on the biogenic synthesis of MgONPs, their applications in therapeutics, and as antimicrobial agents as well as future prospects associated with their applications in the biomedical field.

Abstract:Green synthesis of nanoparticles is an eco-friendly new approach and an attractive field in biomedical applications. In the current investigation, a novel green synthesis of magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO NPs) and graphene oxide based magnesium oxide nanocomposite (GO/MgO nanocomposite) is accomplished using the fungal fermented agricultural by-products and gamma irradiation. MgO NPs are synthesized using wheat bran fermented by Erysiphe cichoracearum and gamma irradiation at 30.0 kGy. GO/MgO nanocomposite is produced efficiently at 20.0 kGy. The characterization of the synthesized nanoparticles is executed by FTIR, XRD, DLS, SEM, and TEM. The mean average diameter of MgO NPs is 14.5 nm and doped uniformly on the surface of the graphene oxide sheets. An excellent antioxidant activity has been shown by GO/MgO nanocomposite (500 μg/mL) of 56.71%. MgO NPs and GO/MgO nanocomposite prove a great antimicrobial effect against all the tested microbial human pathogens. Escherichia coli and Candida albicans are mostly inhibited by MgO NPs and GO/MgO nanocomposite. MgO NPs and GO/MgO nanocomposite show great cytotoxicity against Prostate cancer cell lines. IC50 of MgO NPs and GO/MgO nanocomposite against the Prostate cancer cell lines (PC3) are 86.7 μg/mL and 11.17 μg/mL, respectively. Owing to the strong attachment of MgO NPs and GO construction, the GO/MgO nanocomposite could be used as a promising candidate for new and potent antimicrobial and anticancer considered successful future applications.Graphic abstract

Abstract:Green production of nanomaterials are restrict toxic substances and motivated the noxious free environment. Photocatalysis and antibacterial resistance are more promising and efficient fields for their chemical reductants and clean environment. Herein, we adopted a green and simple method for the biosynthesis of MgO NPs using Manilkara zapota as a bio source. Recently, the green synthesis of magnesium oxide nanoparticles has been a keen interest amongst researchers and scientists due to its simplicity eco-friendliness, non-toxic, inexpensive and potential to perform as an antibacterial agent. Activated carbon/Magnesium oxide (AC/MgO) photocatalyst was blended through a simple solution evaporation method. The surface electron microscopy (SEM) study reviles that AC/MgO had smooth and aggregated particles. The Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and x-ray diffraction (XRD) study confirms the structural formation and incorporation of nanoparticles into the AC matrix. Results confirmed the flourishing integration of MgO NPs over the activated carbon matrix. The electron movement and valency of AC/MgO photocatalyst reduced the bandgap and their findings were characterized by ultra visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-DRS) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The blended AC/MgO photocatalyst was analyzed for photodegradation of Rhodamine- B (Rh-B) dye using a UV-visible spectrophotometer. The degradation study projects that the AC/MgO photocatalyst degrades (Rh-B) dye with 99% efficiency under simulated solar irradiation. This efficient degradation of (Rh-B) dye by AC/MgO photocatalyst is ascribed to the synergetic AC as catalytic support and adsorbent and MgO as photocatalyst. Finally, the photocatalytic material shows a better bactericidal effect in both gram-positive bacteria Escherichia coli-745 and gram-negative bacteria Staphylococcus aureus-9779. The AC/MgO photocatalyst is effectively used in bacteriocidal and photocatalytic removal of dyes and can be used for further development of water reuse and bio-medical fields. In addition, this research shows a viable method for synthesizing a cheap and effective AC/MgO for the photocatalytic destruction of organic pollutants.

Abstract:People are vulnerable to mosquito-borne infections in tropical and subtropical climate countries. Due to resistive issues, vector control is an immediate concern in today's environment. The current study describes the synthesis of magnesium oxide by four different approaches including green, microwave, sol-gel, and hydrothermal methods. The synthesized magnesium oxide (MgO) nanoparticles were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution scanning electron microscopy (HRSEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX) techniques. The FT-IR studies reveal the presence of functional groups in the synthesized nanoparticles. The structural and morphological studies were investigated using XRD and HRSEM. EDAX reveals the presence of Mg and O in the prepared samples. The synthesized MgO NPs were screened for antibacterial studies against Gram-positive strains, Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus aureus, two Gram-negative cultures, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae, using different concentrations. The results indicated excellent antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria at 50 mg/mL hydrothermally produced MgO nanoparticles, with a maximal zone of inhibition (ZOI) of 5 mm for S. aureus, 7 mm for E. faecalis, and 6 mm for K. pneumoniae. The ZOI of E. coli was found to be the greatest at 9 mm when 50 mg/mL sol-gel-produced MgO nanoparticles were used. The synthesized MgO nanostructures were tested against fourth-instar larvae of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, and the hydrothermally synthesized MgO nanostructures exhibited better results when compared with other methods of synthesis. The reports show that A. aegypti and A. albopictus mortality rates were reported to be the lowest with green-manufactured MgO nanoparticles (7.5 g mL-1) and the highest with hydrothermally synthesized MgO nanoparticles (120 g mL-1). The research indicates that MgO nanostructures are promising drugs for antibacterial and mosquitocidal larvae control properties.

In this study, we reported the green synthesis of chitosan-magnesium(CS-Mg) nanocomposite and its antimicrobial activity against two rice pathogens namely Acidovorax oryzae and Rhizoctonia solani for the first time. The green MgO nanoparticles synthesized by using a native Bacillus sp. strain RNT3, were used to fabricate CS-Mg nanocomposite utilizing one-pot synthesis method. The synthesis of CS-Mg nanocomposite was further confirmed by using UV-vis spectroscopy, whereas, FTIR and XRD analysis showed the capping of CS-Mg nanocomposites by different functional groups together with their crystalline structure, respectively. Besides, SEM and TEM images revealed the spherical shape along with the particles size ranging from 29 to 60 nm. Moreover, EDS analysis confirmed the elemental purity of nanocomposite. The CS-Mg nanocomposite showed remarkable antimicrobial activity against A. oryzae and R. solani and significantly inhibited the growth as compared to non-treated control. The ultrastructure studies showed damaged structure of cell wall and internal cellular organelles after treatment with 100 mu g mL(-1) CS-Mg nanocomposite. The results of this study indicated that CS-Mg nanocomposite-based antimicrobial agents could be considered as promising nanopesticides against phytopathogens in plant disease management. Abstract:Magnesium oxide nanostructured particles (NP) were prepared using a simple solution combustion technique using different leaf extracts such as Mangifera indica (Mango - Ma), Azadirachta indica (Neem-Ne), and Carica papaya (Papaya-Pa) as surfactants. The highly crystalline phase of MgO nanostructures was confirmed by PXRD and FTIR studies for 2 h 500°C calcined samples. To analyze the characteristics of obtained material-MaNP, NeNP, and PaNP for dosimetry applications, thermoluminescence (TL) studies were carried out for Co-60 gamma rays irradiated samples in the dose range 10-50 KGy; PaNP and NeNP exhibited well-defined glow curve when compared with MaNP samples. In addition, it was observed that the TL intensity decreases, with increase in gamma dose and the glow peak temperature is shifted towards the higher temperature with the increase in heating rate. The glow peak was segregated using glow curve deconvolution and thermal cleaning method. Kinetic parameters estimated using Chen's method, trap depth (E), and frequency factor (s) were found to be 0.699, 7.408, 0.4929, and 38.71, 11.008, and 10.71 for PaNP, NeNP, and MaNP respectively. The well-resolved glow curve, good linear behavior in the dose range of 10-50, KGy, and less fading were observed in PaNP as compared with MaNP and NeNP. Further, the antibacterial activity was checked against human pathogens such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. A visible zone of clearance was observed at 200 and 100 μg/mL by the PaNP and NeNP, indicating the death of colonies by the nanoparticles. Therefore, PaNP nanomaterial is a potential phosphor material for dosimetry and antibacterial application compared to NeNP and MaNP.

Abstract:Recently, the use of herbs in the agriculture and food industry has increased significantly. In particular, Rosmarinus officinalis L. extracts have been reported to have strong antibacterial properties, which depend on their chemical composition. The present study displayed a biological method for synthesis of magnesium oxide (MgO) nano-flowers. The nano-flowers are developed without using any catalyst agent. Aqueous Rosemary extract was used to synthesize MgO nano-flowers (MgONFs) in stirring conditions and temperature at 70°C for 4 h. The mixture solution was checked by UV-Vis spectrum to confirm the presence of nanoparticles. The MgO nano-flowers powder was further characterized in this study by the X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. In addition, bacteriological tests indicated that MgO nano-flowers significantly inhibited bacterial growth, biofilm formation, and motility of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae , which is the causal agent of bacterial blight disease in rice. The electronic microscopic observation showed that bacterial cell death may be mainly due to destroy of cell integrity, resulting in leakage of intracellular content. As recommended, the use of Rosemary extract is an effective and green way to produce the MgO nano-flowers, which can be widely used in agricultural fields to suppress bacterial infection.

Abstract:Abstract In terms of biocompatibility, environmental friendliness, scalability, and cost-effectiveness, green nanoparticle (NP) synthesis is a modern area of nanotechnology that performs better than physical and chemical methods. The utilization of endophytic Penicillium oxalicum for the biogenesis of silica nanoparticles is the goal of the current work. The structural and optical properties of the fungal produced silica nanoparticles were investigated utilizing transmission electron microscopy (TEM), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), x ray diffraction (XRD) and dynamic light scattering (DLS). All of the investigated parameters and their interactions were found to have a significant effect on the crystallite size, according to the results. The average diameter size of the biosynthesized SiO 2 -NPs was ranged between 20 -50 nm. The size of the biosynthesized SiO 2 -NPs was 28.7 nm, and their crystalline nature was confirmed by XRD, according to characterization results. A surface plasmon resonance spectrum of silica nanoparticles was obtained at 280 nm. Under UV light, Ribazol black b and Crystal violet dyes were photocatalytically degraded utilizing biosynthesized SiO 2 nanoparticles. The highest decolorization percentage of Crystal violet and Ribazol black b was 94.1% ± 1.2% and 85.1% ± 0.93%, respectively after 90 and 120 min, for both crystal violet and Ribazol black b of incubation at 50.0 mg mL ─1 of SiO 2 nanoparticles. Furthermore, SiO 2 -NPs were successfully used more than once for biodegradation and that was regarded as its efficacy. Silica nanoparticles were used to remove Co, Pb, Cd, and Zn with percentages of 99.9% ± 1.2%, 99.9% ± 1.3%, 99.9% ± 1.3%, and 99.4% ± 1.4%, respectively. The phytotoxicity test was investigated by using Zea mays L seed which the root length increases to (28 ± 0.35) and (21 ± 0.51) cm, respectively when subjected tothe treated CV and Ribazole black b effluent... In conclusion, endophytic Penicillium oxalicum was used to successfully biosynthesize SiO 2 -NPs, which showed, phytotoxicity, heavy metal bioremediation, and photocatalytic activity against CV and Ribazol black b dye.

Abstract:The current research is concerned with the synthesis of magnesium oxide (MgO) nanoparticles (NPs) from Abrus precatorius L. bark extract via the green chemistry method. The synthesized MgO NPs was confirmed by using several characterization methods like XRD, FTIR, SEM, TEM, and UV-visible analysis. The synthesized MgO NPs displayed a small particle size along with a specific surface area. Abrus precatorius bark synthesized MgO NPs with a higher ratio of dye degradation, and antioxidant activity showed a higher percentage of free radical scavenging in synthesized MgO NPs. Zebrafish embryos were used as a model organism to assess the toxicity of the obtained MgO nanoparticles, and the results concluded that the MgO NPs were nontoxic. In addition, the anticancer properties of MgO nanoparticles were analyzed by using a human melanoma cancer cell line (A375) via MTT, XTT, NRU, and LDH assessment. MgO NPs treated a human melanoma cancer cell line and resulted in apoptosis and necrosis based on the concentration, which was confirmed through a genotoxicity assay. Moreover, the molecular mechanisms in necrosis and apoptosis were conferred to depict the association of magnesium oxide nanoparticles with the human melanoma cancer cell line. The current study on MgO NPs showed a broad-scope understanding of the use of these nanoparticles as a medicinal drug for melanoma cancer via its physiological mechanism and also a novel route to obtain MgO NPs by using the green chemistry method.

Abstract:The synthesis of magnesium hydroxide nanoparticles (Mg(OH)2 NPs) using plant extracts are known to be a practical, economical, and an environmentally friendly approach. In this work, Mg(OH)2 NPs were synthesized using aqueous leaf extract of Tinospora cordifolia, a medicinal plant commonly found in India. The synthesized Mg(OH)2 NPs were characterized using various spectroscopic techniques. The ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) absorption peak of the Mg(OH)2 NPs was detected at 289 nm, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis confirmed the presence of various functional groups, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns revealed the well-crystallized structure of the Mg(OH)2 NPs. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses depicted spherical morphology and an average particle size (PS) of 27.71 nm. The energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis confirmed the presence of C, O, and Mg elements, and the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) survey spectrum confirmed the elements for the Su 1 s peak at 280.2 eV. The dynamic light scattering (DLS) analysis displayed an average PS of 54.3 nm, and the Zeta potential (ZP) was of 9.89 mV. The fabricated Mg(OH)2 NPs displayed notable antibacterial activity against S. epidermidis, E. coli, and S. aureus. In addition, these NPs exhibited strong antioxidant properties (> 75%) based on DPPH, ABTS, and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) assays. Further, the same NPs exerted a potent anti-inflammatory activity (> 65%) based on COX-1 and COX-2 evaluations. The anti-Alzheimer' disease (AD) potential of Mg(OH)2 NPs was assessed through effective inhibition (> 70%) of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) activities. Molecular docking (MD) studies confirmed that caryophyllene has higher binding affinity with AChE (-5.3 kcal/mol) and BuChE (-6.4 kcal/mol) enzymes. This study emphasizes the green synthesis of Mg(OH)2 NPs using T. cordifolia as a plant source and highlights their potential for biomedical applications.
