Abstract:J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye (1951) and Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar (1963), both serve as masterpiece accounts of teen angst and intricate detailed workings of the mind post world war when society was growing on one side with new foliage of technological innovation aimed at improving the lifestyle of human beings, on the other was on a slowyet painful process of moral, individual and spiritual decay as men and women had given way to the evils of the surplus and easy way of living. Not only were relationships coming under the radar of suspicion with humans doubting and betraying each other, a major issue of serious concern was on the rise as well that being the changing dynamics of adolescent brain and mind. Prone to modernization, the functioning of the mind of teenagers was undergoing a tremendous change where overt sensitivity was on rise. This paper focuses upon the main themes of (I) ideals cherished by both the protagonists, their view on them as individuals of the society, (II) on sexuality and (III) the serious issue of suicide which had been sought out as the best means of escape as their surroundings fail to bend according to their visions. This paper makes special efforts at analysing the same by bringing into it the status of relationship of the protagonist with his or her family member, peers, teachers and counsellors and how exactly it helps in expressing who they are and what they want.

Abstract:The present paper examines the syncretism of body and sexuality and its consequences in The Catcher in the Rye written by J.D. Salinger. This paper further discusses how the young adult Holden Caulfield perceives his body and sexuality; and how the body and sexuality work in The Catcher in the Rye. Moreover, this paper analyzes body celebration, abuse and sexuality of young adult Holden. This study argues that young adults perceive their body as a means of power, freedom, identity and maturity. Young adults employ their body and sexuality as agencies to be distinct and noticeable in their community and society. For these purposes, this paper primarily employs the ideas of Roberta S. Trites and Judith Butler as theoretical tools. This paper opens an avenue for further research about young adults of Nepal and other topography besides America.

Abstract:Gender aspects have been attracting linguistic attention for quite a while now, raising discussions about the so-called male and female languages. However, the effect of gender on translation remains understudied. This research featured expressive vocabulary in Jerome Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye and its Russian translations performed by Rita Rait-Kovaleva (1960) and Maxim Nemtsov (2008). The objective was to determine the effect of gender on translation. The authors believe that the translator’s gender may affect literary images and modify the author’s message. They conducted a comparative analysis of the way translators of different genders transferred stylistically-marked and emotional vocabulary, colloquialisms, slang, and jargon into Russian. The standard methods of analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization, systematization, and description revealed some differences in the translation styles, the image of the main character, translation pragmatics, and Salinger’s rather remarkable style. Rita Rait-Kovaleva seemed to soften some harsh statements, neutralize emotional aspects, and avoid colloquial vocabulary by using equivalents, which did not quite fall into the stylistic framework. Her Holden Caulfield turned out to more educated, intelligent, confident, emotional, and gentle. Maxim Nemtsov adhered to a single strategy: he did his best not to deviate from the original. In his attempt to preserve colloquialisms and substandard vocabulary, he often gave neutral words stylistic markers, emotional coloring, or a negative connotation. However, he managed to maintain the original syntax.

Abstract:Summary In natural face-to-face interactions, verbal communication always occurs in association with expressions of nonverbal behavior. The functional contribution of these multimodal aspects to the meaning of the message and to its effects fulfils multiple communicative functions that differ according primarily to the speaker’s intentions, to the interpersonal relations between the speaker and the addressee, to the nature of the message, and to the context. When nonverbal behavior is reproduced in a written literary text, it becomes functional to the textual and narrative process as it serves as a signifier for the reader. A fictional character is never fixed and unchanging. Through writing, each author encourages the explicit or implicit evocation of a multisensory world, which readers decode and reconstruct, inevitably conditioned by their cognitive and cultural environment. In this paper, we refer to Salinger’s famous novel The Catcher in the Rye to analyze the literary valence of representing the characters’ multisensory communication, focusing on the core relationship between the explicit and the implicit parts in reconstructing the psychological depth of a literary character.

Prvni cast prace vysvětluje terminy cenzura a aktivismus v literatuře, dale popisuje skupiny lidi, ktere cenzuru vyžaduji a jejich důvody k protestům proti kniham. Nasledujici cast připomina přijeti knihy v době, kdy byla vydana a charakterizuje různe přistupy kritiků k romanu. Třeti cast popisuje zahadu kolem knihy a konspiracni teorii, ktere je kniha udajně soucasti. Posledni kapitola prace konfrontuje Holdenovy kontroverzni citaty s nazory jeho cenzorů.

Abstract:This study examines the portrayal of existential crises in Western and non-Western literature through the analysis of The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger and The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy. While much research has explored existential themes in Western literature, there is a gap in the comparative analysis of how these themes are depicted across different cultural contexts. Using Existentialist theory as the methodological framework, the study analyzes the internal struggles of characters, focusing on themes such as alienation, identity, and meaning. The findings reveal that while both texts explore existential angst, cultural differences shape the characters’ responses to these crises. Western literature emphasizes individualism, while non-Western perspectives are more deeply influenced by social and familial constraints. The study recommends further research into cross-cultural representations of existentialism in adolescent literature and suggests the therapeutic potential of literature in addressing existential crises.

Abstract:the present moment in art is marked by the transition to a new key concept of development, defined by researchers as "metamodernism". This concept suggests a dichotomy of many features of modernity and postmodernity. Art, developing in the key of metamodernism, enters the space of semiotic dialogue with what was before it, and produces a reconstruction procedure. At the same time, within the framework of the collision of the incomparable at first glance, a special tension and “depth similarity” arise. This happens, for example, in the modern series «Black Spring», where the author of the article traces connections of many difficult-to-connect themes, such as: duel ethics and modernity, neo-romanticism and brutality, irony, heroes copied from literary characters or from the heroes of other movies. The article attempts to semantic analysis of images of the series for a better understanding of nature of metamodernism.

Abstract:Key words: Postmodernism, satire, paradox, black humor, Catch-22 ABSTRACT This abstract is a study of Catch-22 (1961), a specific early document of American posmodern literature. In particular, this one is going to present the critical argument on this novel as parallel to the wider concept of the postmodernism. My claim is that, this novel is going to be treated in accordance with postmodern thought to paradox, irony, black humor, which is a line between fantasy and reality and readers of the novel are unsure about the point at which realism fades into fantasy and a collapsed literary possibility, traditional techiques in literature, for these literary issues in fact have come out many interpretations. So to attain best this argument is an approach to Catch-22 of Joseph Heller. In attempt to, firstly , demonstrate how critics have reduced the potential meaning of the novel in imposing its own notions of a literary‐historical circle and secondly, how readings of Heller’s characters in the novel can reveal an untapped possibility for further exploration of the broadest definitions and interpretations of the project of postmodernism. Through this work will be obviously explained some of the most essential and basic posmodernist devices especially through the art of writing and language used. Not only marginalized, lateral characters will be on the spotlight of observation and analyses but also the major and protoganist ones will characterize the typical features of postmodern notion.

Abstract:Catchwords are an important part of our language. As a kind of language as well as cultural phenomenon, it has much more linguistic and social-cultural values. Starting from the general review of literature, the paper here analyzes reasons of catchwords, explains its definition and several characteristics. It explores the formation of catchwords in both English and Chinese, highlighting that catchwords both in English and Chinese can be attributed to three sources. Finally, it points out that young people may be the mainstream of the use and renovation of catchwords.

Abstract:There appears a tendency of teenager writing in contemporary Chinese literature,and some “Post-1980s” writers spontaneously initiated a kind of teenager narrative in which the writer without and the narrator within the text overlap in the first-person narrator.However,the lack of historical consciousness betrays the emptiness of their life experience.There exists another kind of teenager narrative,i.e.adult writers intentionally adopt the teenager perspective,creating an overlap of multiple levels of narrative time,and thus providing the readers with a special perspective to penetrate history,to enrich and develop the forms of contemporary writing both in language and structure,and to establish a favorable intertextual relationship with the style of “Teenage Skaz” in the context of world literature.

Abstract:“Lying Flat” is the literal translation of the Chinese slang term “Tang Ping,” which alludes to the current youth culture of giving up and living a life without ambition. The term was coined against the backdrop of a worldwide economic downturn and reflects the mental confusion and disillusionment of young people. Multiple variables, including excessive social competition, unsuitable school education, and permissive parents, contribute to adolescents’ inactive life attitudes. This article presented some typical lying-flat cohorts, explored the underlying causes, and provided solutions for this problem in an effort to provide suggestions for encouraging the younger generation to regain hope in life and attain self-actualization.

Abstract:Historically, literature for children and youth has been used as an effective tool to express utopian visions and dissemination of official ideologies. Youth literature is also revealing of ways that adults construe and construct childhood, influencing values, beliefs and images they wish to inculcate in young readers. This paper attempts to critically analyze contemporary international youth literature representing coming-of-age experiences during the Cultural Revolution by new immigrant Chinese writers. It explores why this significant political event has such a prevalent presence in contemporary English youth literature, how the Cultural Revolution has been represented in general, and how young people are portrayed in books addressing trauma, subjectivity, and different forms of personal agency. These eloquent narratives not only promote a point of view to interpret history in a given way, but also serve as instruments of political socialization and powerful agents of social change, essential for the development of adolescents and for the endorsement of democracy. Writing coming-of-age narratives is not only a lyrical elegy of exploring the catastrophic effects of historical events upon young people, but also a reminder to the world that the cataclysms of history cannot be forgotten and the historical lessons must be passed on to the later generations.

Abstract:Problem: Similar to the children in J. D. Salinger's novel, The Catcher in the Rye, youth in foster care face the specter of "going over the cliff." Methods: The empirical basis for "treatment foster care" is reviewed, concluding that treatment foster care is both a clinically and cost-effective form of community-based treatment. Findings: Treatment foster parents prevent the fall of foster youth into the chasm of school failure, involvement with juvenile justice, and dependent living as adults. Conclusion: Treatment foster care is an evidence-based approach that is less restrictive and offers troubled youth an opportunity to engage and grow within a family setting.

Abstract:As a form of narrative fiction,youth narrative has a long tradition.With its unique style and morphology,the 20th Century youth narrative has been given great attention.The 20th Century youth narrative has relations with narrative themes as well as the life attitude.The researchers have paid great attention to the 20th Century youth narrative just because of its unique style and morphology.The 20th Century youth narrative is special in its preference to feeling and the physical.Fixed internal highlights,first person narrative and monologue discourse are its most important narrative strategies,but departing from these strategies in details,for example,the pseudo-fixed of its narrative perspective,the nihilistic of description author,and the vacuum of value position.It is because of the nihilism of the ″self″ as the main narrative.Compared with the past youth narrative,the 20th Century youth narrative shows the sharp characteristics of the time as a ″refusing growth″,and the cultural identity.This is particularly the voice of the 20th Century captured by the writers.In this sense,the 20th Century youth narrative shows its own type of feature,and also the themes of the time,such as the choice and nihilism,the resistance and despair.

Abstract:This article attempts to establish that socioeconomic status (SES) plays an important role in the lives of adolescents and is reflected in adolescent literature. The emphasis on SES in four adolescent novels: The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger, and The Pigman by Paul Zindel suggests that both the authors and their young readers are aware of its influence in today's society. Three areas which are greatly affected by SES are examined: adolescents' self-esteem, how it affects characterization and subsequently the degree to which adolescents identify with a literary character, and how it functions as a learning device, enabling authors to infuse their own moral values into the minds of their audiences.
