Abstract:Objective: To analyze research trends, frontiers, and hot topics in specialty nurse training over the past 20 years, and provide a reference for researchers to understand the current research landscape in this field. Methods: Studies from the core collection of Web of Science were used. Furthermore, CiteSpace 6.3 R3 was utilized to analyze information on country, institution, authors, keywords and burst words. Results: A total of 296 articles were included in the analysis. The United States had the highest number of articles, and there was limited cooperation between authors and institutions. The research hotspots in this field included "clinical education models for specialist nurses", "APN role training", and "interprofessional education". Conclusion: The future research trend is to explore the effective integration of training models suitable for different regions and cultural backgrounds and cross-professional education models. It is suggested that researchers pay attention to the innovation and development of specialized nursing clinical practice under different cultural backgrounds, and strengthen international exchanges and cooperation.

Abstract:AimsTo investigate research hotspots and trends in nursing education from 2014 to 2020, and provide references for researchers to understand the research status and developing trends in this field. DesignA co-word analysis based on keywords. MethodsData were obtained from nursing education-related academic research articles that were retrieved through a literature search using PubMed during the period of 2014–2020. Keywords included in the analysis of literature were considered as the research objects. Bibliographic Item Co-occurrence Matrix Builder (BICOMB) was employed to extract high-frequency keywords and generate co-occurrence matrix, graphical clustering toolkit (gCLUTO) was used to perform cluster analysis, and SPSS 25.0 was used to perform strategic diagram analysis. ResultsOverall, 7857 articles were retrieved, from which 2679 keywords were obtained and 64 high-frequency keywords extracted. The results revealed seven hotspots in nursing education during the period of 2014–2020, which included research on: (i) continuing education in nursing, (ii) application and influence of the internet in nursing education, (iii) postgraduate nursing education, (iv) undergraduate nursing education and clinical quality training, (v) current development status and tendency of nursing education, (vi) nursing teaching methods and (vii) organization and management in nursing education. ConclusionThe seven research hotspots could reflect the publication trends in nursing education. By providing a co-word analysis—including cluster and strategic diagram analysis—an overall command of the latest hotspots can be depicted, and researchers conducting research in nursing education can have some hints. ImpactThis study allows the development of future research on nursing education. Future researchers should explore the application of new network technologies in the process of nursing teaching, quality of postgraduate nursing education, innovative teaching methods as well as teaching strategies of improving students' clinical ability, current situation of economics and leadership in nursing education and ability of organization and management in undergraduate nursing education.

The research hotspots and theme trends of artificial intelligence in nurse education: A bibliometric analysis from 1994 to 2023

Abstract:Objectives: To explore research hotspots and theme trends in artificial intelligence in nurse education using bibliometric analysis. Design: Bibliometric analysis. Data sources: Literature from the Web of Science Core Collection from the time of construction to October 31, 2023 was searched. Review methods: Analyses of countries, authors, institutions, journals, and keywords were conducted using Bibliometrix (based on R language), CiteSpace, the online analysis platform (bibliometric), Vosviewer, and Pajek. Results: A total of 135 articles with a straight upward trend over the last three years were retrieved. By fitting the curve R2 = 0.6022 (R2 > 0.4), we predicted that the number of annual articles is projected to grow in the coming years. The United States (n = 38), the National University of Singapore (n = 16), Professor Jun Ota (n = 8), and Nurse Education Today (n = 14) are the countries, institutions, authors, and journals that contributed to the most publications, respectively. Collaborative network analysis revealed that 32 institutional and 64 author collaborative teams were established. We identified ten high-frequency keywords and nine clusters. We categorized the research hotspots of artificial intelligence in nurse education into three areas: (1) Artificial intelligence-enhanced simulation robots, (2) machine learning and data mining, and (3) large language models based on natural language processing and deep learning. By analyzing the temporal and spatial evolution of keywords and burst detection, we found that future research trends may include (1) expanding and deepening the application of AI technology, (2) assessment of behavioral intent and educational outcomes, and (3) moral and ethical considerations. Conclusions: Future research should be conducted on technology applications, behavioral intent, ethical policy, international cooperation, interdisciplinary cooperation, and sustainability to promote the continued development and innovation of AI in nurse education.
Natural Language Processing Application in Nursing Research: A Study Using Text Network Analysis and Topic Modeling

Abstract:Although the potential of natural language processing and an increase in its application in nursing research is evident, there is a lack of understanding of the research trends. This study conducts text network analysis and topic modeling to uncover the underlying knowledge structures, research trends, and emergent research themes within nursing literature related to natural language processing. In addition, this study aims to provide a foundation for future scholarly inquiries and enhance the integration of natural language processing in the analysis of nursing research. We analyzed 443 literature abstracts and performed core keyword analysis and topic modeling based on frequency and centrality. The following topics emerged: (1) Term Identification and Communication; (2) Application of Machine Learning; (3) Exploration of Health Outcome Factors; (4) Intervention and Participant Experience; and (5) Disease-Related Algorithms. Nursing meta-paradigm elements were identified within the core keyword analysis, which led to understanding and expanding the meta-paradigm. Although still in its infancy in nursing research with limited topics and research volumes, natural language processing can potentially enhance research efficiency and nursing quality. The findings emphasize the possibility of integrating natural language processing in nursing-related subjects, validating nursing value, and fostering the exploration of essential paradigms in nursing science.
Analysis of Vocational Education Research Trends Using Network Analysis and Topic Modeling

Abstract:The purpose of this study was to analyze vocational education research trends using network analysis and topic modeling. A total of 981 journals of vocational education research and vocational competency development research were analyzed from 2008 to 2022, and analyzed separately based on the period of government administration. As a result of network analysis, the main keywords identified were specialized vocational high schools, university students, employment, mediation effect, teachers, youth, performance, competency, self-efficacy, and programs. The top 25 keywords were restructured, divided into research subjects and research contents, and analyzed in detail across specific areas. Keywords were separated research subject, research content, and research method, and the research content was consisted of employment and labor, vocational career education, performance competency, psychological variables, and learning organization. The results were obtained by conducting an analysis of degree centrality, between centrality, and eigenvector centrality by government period. As a result of the topic modeling analysis, 8 topics were consisted of human resource development evaluation and performance analysis, employment and labor market transition for university graduates, development of professional competency for vocational competency development, career development for students from specialized vocational high schools, and human resource development and training, organizational development for individuals, learning, university students' career decisions, and specialized vocational high school curriculum. Based on these finding, suggestions for future research were derived.
Impact of a game-based interprofessional education program on medical students' perceptions: a text network analysis using essays

Abstract:Background: The increasing complexity of the healthcare environment and the necessity of multidisciplinary teamwork have highlighted the importance of interprofessional education (IPE). IPE aims to enhance the quality of patient care through collaborative education involving various healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nurses, and pharmacists. This study sought to analyze how game-based IPE activities influence students' perceptions and reflective thinking. It also aimed to identify the shifts in perception and effectiveness caused by this educational approach. Methods: The study is based on a game-based IPE program conducted at University A, involving medical and nursing students in structured learning and team-based activities. Data were collected using essays written by the students after they had participated in IPE activities. Text network analysis was conducted by extracting key terms, performing centrality analysis, and visualizing topic modeling to identify changes in students' perceptions and reflective thinking. Results: Keywords such as "patient," "thought," "group," "doctor," "nurse," and "communication" played a crucial role in the network, indicating that students prioritized enhancing their communication and problem-solving skills within the educational environment. The topic modeling results identified three main topics, each demonstrating the positive influence of game-based collaborative activities, interprofessional perspectives, and interdisciplinary educational experiences on students. Topic 3 (interdisciplinary educational experience) acted as a significant mediator connecting Topic 1 (game-based collaborative activity experience) and Topic 2 (interprofessional perspectives). Conclusion: This study demonstrates that game-based IPE activities are an effective educational approach for enhancing students' team building skills, particularly communication and interprofessional perspectives. Based on these findings, future IPE programs should focus on creating collaborative learning environments, strengthening communication skills, and promoting interdisciplinary education. The findings provide essential insights for educational designers and medical educators to enhance the effectiveness of IPE programs. Future research should assess the long-term impacts of game-based IPE on clinical practice, patient outcomes, and participants' professional development.

Abstract:Outreach programs are considered a key strategy for providing services to underserved populations and play a central role in delivering health-care services. To address this challenge, knowledge relevant to global health outreach programs has recently been expanded. The aims of this study were to analyze the knowledge structure and understand the trends in aspects over time and across regions using text network analysis with NetMiner 4.0. Data analysis by frequency, time and region showed that the central keywords such as patient, care, service and community were found to be highly related to the area, target population, purpose and type of services within the knowledge structure of outreach. As a result of performing topic modeling, knowledge structure in this area consisted of five topics: patient-centered care, HIV care continuum, services related to a specific disease, community-based health-care services and research and education on health programs. Our results newly identified that patient-centered care, specific disease and population have been growing more crucial for all times and countries by the examination of major trends in health-care related outreach research. These findings help health professionals, researchers and policymakers in nursing and public health fields in understanding and developing health-care-related outreach practices and suggest future research direction.

Analysis of research trends of e-Learning in Korea using Text Network Analysis techniques

Abstract:This paper aims to discuss educational implications of e-learning research and uggest the direction of follow-up study for which current status and e-learning research trends in Korea was searched with text network analysis methods. This study searched e-learning articles in the online search engine Research Information Sharing Service(RISS) from 2001 to 2021 including 'e-learning' in the title or its keyword in the abstract. 761 articles were finally selected and classified with the publication year and subject categories. Text Network Analysis techniques were applied to analyze the values of degree centrality and betweenness centrality between words. Word cloud was also used to visualize the keywords centrality of e-learning articles. The article numbers peaked in 2010, then decreased, but increased again after 2016. Most cited subject was 'others' as it was classified as combined with two or more subjects, followed with these single subject such as 'education', 'engineering', 'social science', 'agriculture', 'arts and sports', 'humanities', and 'medicine'. High frequency of keywords includes 'learning', 'lecture', 'education', 'online', 'instructor', and 'content' as it has been a strong relationship with online education and its content development trends in Korea: research activities of design and development and effectiveness verification. The word 'convergence' also appeared frequently and showed high values in degree centrality and betweenness centrality; convergence topics in particular plays an important role in connecting other educational issues.
Trends in patient safety education research for healthcare professional students over the past two decades: a bibliometric and content analysis

Abstract:Research and practice in patient safety education have garnered widespread attention; however, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis is lacking. This study aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the research focus and research trends in the globalization of the field of patient safety education and to describe the general characteristics of publications. Data on articles and reviews about student safety education were extracted from Web of Science. Microsoft Excel 2019, CiteSpace 6.1.R3, VOSviewer 1.6.18, SATI 3.2, Scimago Graphica, and Pajek were used for quantitative analysis. Collaboration networks of countries, institutions, journals, authors, and keywords were visualized based on publications from January 2000 to September 2022. A total of 573 papers were published between 2000 to 2022, showing an overall increasing trend. The USA, England, and Australia are the top three most prolific countries; Johns Hopkins University, the University of Technology Sydney, and the University of Toronto are the top three most productive institutions; Nurse Education Today, Journal of Nursing Education, and BMC Medical Education are the most productive journals; Based on content analysis five research hotspots focused on: (1) Quality Improvement of Patient safety Teaching and Learning; (2) Patient safety Teaching Content; (3)Specialized Teaching in Patient Safety; (4) Integrating Patient Safety and Clinical Teaching; (5)Patient Safety Teaching Assessment Content. Through keyword clustering analysis, five research hotspots and relevant contents were identified. According to this study, simulation, communication, collaboration, and medication may attract more attention from researchers and educators, and could be the major trend for future study.

Abstract:<section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Purpose</h3><p>Despite the importance of research in the discipline of nursing, current trends in nursing research have rarely been discussed across countries. The purpose of this article was to identify current trends in nursing research across five countries, including the United States, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and Hong Kong, in order to provide directions for future global nursing research.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Organizing Construct</h3><p>A discussion article.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Methods</h3><p>To identify the current trends, seven leaders from the five countries had discussions through a series of workshops and conference presentations. After the most recent conference, all the leaders reflected for a month on their presentations and compiled the exemplars and cases from their experience and the existing literature in individual countries into a table. The tables and supporting references were collected at the completion of the reflection period. Then, the PowerPoint (Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, WA, USA) slideshows of the conference presentations by the leaders and the collected tables were analyzed using a content analysis.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Findings</h3><p>Six themes reflecting the current trends in nursing research were extracted: (a) demographic alterations; (b) increasing diversities and globalization; (c) technology innovation; (d) individualized or personal care and population health initiatives; (e) health policies and regulations; and (f) nursing workforce changes.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Conclusions</h3><p>Future directions for nursing research across the countries were proposed: (a) cost‐effectiveness research; (b) implementation science; (c) data science; (d) training of the future generation of nurse researchers; (e) population health; and (f) team science.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Clinical Relevance</h3><p>This topic could be applied to any clinical settings.</p></section>

Themes and Trends in Korean Educational Technology Research: A Social Network Analysis of Keywords

Abstract:The aim of this study is to identify themes and trends of Korean educational technology by examining 645 papers authored by Korean researchers in Journal of Educational Technology (JET) between 1985 and June, 2013. In addition to the keywords included in abstract, other important keywords were extracted from titles and abstracts manually. Co-word analysis was employed to reveal patterns and trends in the research by measuring the association strength of terms representative of relevant publications produced in ET field. Social network techniques were applied using UCINET for Windows to get keywords network, and Net-draw were utilized to visualize network. In order to trace dynamic changes of the ET field, the whole 29 year was further separated three consecutive periods: 1985-1994, 1995-2004, and 2005-2013. Results indicate that educational technology research in Korea has been strongly influenced by new media, design theory, educational epistemology, and educational assessment. Instructional design revealed to be most important keywords by centrality measures for among time periods, and it has received consistent and high attention over the last decade. Constructivism related keywords and network- based learning have also received growing attention since 1996. Social media related keywords (knowledge sharing, social capital, and social media etc) is emerging theme since 2005 year. The findings contribute to predict future trends of ET field and to understand the discourse about the epistemology of educational technology research by using social network techniques. The results show that ET fields have some established research themes and it also changes rapidly to embrace new themes.
[Identification of Knowledge Structure of Pain Management Nursing Research Applying Text Network Analysis]

Abstract:Purpose: This study aimed to explore and compare the knowledge structure of pain management nursing research, between Korea and other countries, applying a text network analysis. Methods: 321 Korean and 6,685 international study abstracts of pain management, published from 2004 to 2017, were collected. Keywords and meaningful morphemes from the abstracts were analyzed and refined, and their co-occurrence matrix was generated. Two networks of 140 and 424 keywords, respectively, of domestic and international studies were analyzed using NetMiner 4.3 software for degree centrality, closeness centrality, betweenness centrality, and eigenvector community analysis. Results: In both Korean and international studies, the most important, core-keywords were "pain," "patient," "pain management," "registered nurses," "care," "cancer," "need," "analgesia," "assessment," and "surgery." While some keywords like "education," "knowledge," and "patient-controlled analgesia" found to be important in Korean studies; "treatment," "hospice palliative care," and "children" were critical keywords in international studies. Three common sub-topic groups found in Korean and international studies were "pain and accompanying symptoms," "target groups of pain management," and "RNs' performance of pain management." It is only in recent years (2016~17), that keywords such as "performance," "attitude," "depression," and "sleep" have become more important in Korean studies than, while keywords such as "assessment," "intervention," "analgesia," and "chronic pain" have become important in international studies. Conclusion: It is suggested that Korean pain-management researchers should expand their concerns to children and adolescents, the elderly, patients with chronic pain, patients in diverse healthcare settings, and patients' use of opioid analgesia. Moreover, researchers need to approach pain-management with a quality of life perspective rather than a mere focus on individual symptoms.
Trends and Hotspots in Nursing Theory Research Published from 1990 to 2022: A Web of Science‐Based Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract:Background and Purpose. Nursing theory can provide a framework for analyzing and solving problems in nursing research, nursing management, nursing education, and clinical nursing. The development of nursing theory has been more than one hundred years and has gradually developed mature. However, no bibliometric analysis has been conducted on nursing theory. Methods. This study adopted bibliometric approaches and analyzed the nursing theory research literature included in the Web of Science database during the 33 years between 1990 and 2022 using VOSviewer software. The source countries and regions, subject categories and distributions of institutions/units, journals, and highly productive authors of 23,180 nursing theory publications from the past 33 years were analyzed. The top ten funding agencies of nursing theory literature were also analyzed. Cluster and topic evolution analyses were performed on high‐frequency keywords in nursing theory literature. Results. Historical trends in nursing theory were explored based on the number of articles published each year. The authoritative academic journals of nursing theory were identified based on the number of articles published, and the leaders of nursing theory and their academic research teams were identified based on the authors and their institutions. Moreover, the research hotspots and development trends in nursing theory were explored based on keyword clustering and topic evolution analysis. Thus, it is helpful to guide nursing practice and effectively solve nursing problems in nursing management. Conclusion. Research on nursing theory has been increasingly applied in clinical practice and tested or verified through clinical interventions in treating diseases. Theoretical research is inseparable from the development of nursing education. Moreover, research methods should be specific and diverse. Further improvement of theories depends on patient‐centered clinical practice. Therefore, this study plays an important role in the continuous enrichment and development of nursing theory, which is conducive to further promoting the progress of nursing management and nursing discipline.

Hotspots and Global Trends of Nursing Research on Mobile Applications in Nursing From 2012 to 2023: A Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract:The rapid integration of mobile applications in healthcare has prompted an evolutionary change in nursing domain. This study aimed to systematically analyze the basic publication characteristics, research priorities, emerging trends, and thematic evolutions concerning mobile applications in nursing, providing an overview of the field's developmental trajectory and future directions. This was a descriptive bibliometric study. Data were collected on July 5, 2023, from the Web of Science database and analyzed by using the Bibliometrix package in R software. The search strategy yielded 417 documents authored by 1969 researchers, cited 12 595 references, and featured 1213 author keywords, spanning from 2012 to 2023. Research on mobile applications in nursing exhibited several key trends: (1) substantial collaboration among authors; (2) significant growth in the number of publications; (3) self-management was the most prominent hot topic; and (4) an evolution of research themes from general topics to a more specific focus on people-centered and problem-centered research. The corpus of literature pertaining to research on mobile applications within the nursing domain is anticipated to expand continually. Future research and practice in the nursing field are expected to benefit significantly from multidisciplinary collaboration and advancements in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.

Abstract:Objectives: Objective To know the current state of development of the thematic area of nursing education related with professional training and to determine the research trends. Methods: Descriptive integrative review, which conducted a search in databases limited from 2005 to 2016, using MeSH and DeCS terms, like Nursing, education, Nursing education research, Nursing students, health knowledge practice, and professional competence, which analyzed 50 original articles. Results: The concepts that emerged were: successful didactics, caring learning process, professional skills, professor role, and pedagogic relationships. The highest levels of evidence were found in studies on didactics; however, the trends and challenges of this review are aimed at the professional skill because it becomes the transversal concept in the formation of nurses.

Abstract:Objectives This study tried to explore the direction of language network analysis-related research in the field of special education in the future by analyzing the trends of studies using language network analysis methods in the field of special education in Korea. Methods For this purpose, 28 studies using language network analysis in the domestic special education field were analyzed from 2007 to June 2022. Based on previous research, the analysis criteria were set as ‘year of publication and published journal, research topic, analysis tool, visualization analysis method, and analysis index’. Results As a result of the study, it was found that the largest number of studies were conducted in ‘Special Education Rehabilitation Science Research’ and ‘Intellectual Disability Research’. was found to have been carried out. In addition, most of the research was conducted on the subject of research trend and knowledge structure analysis, and it was found that the majority of collected texts were articles published in academic journals. As a network analysis tool, ‘UCINET’ was used the most, and the most studies that visualized the results through a network map were the most. In all 28 papers to be analyzed, the centrality scale was used as an analysis index, and methods such as clustering and ego network analysis were also used. Conclusions These results have significance in providing a direction for conducting language network research in the field of special education in the future, and the need for continuous expansion of qualitatively more diverse topics, as well as network analysis tools, visualization presentation methods, and analysis suitable for research purposes and topics. The necessity of presenting the research results abundantly using indicators was suggested.
Nursing Students' Perceptions about Effective Pedagogy: Netnographic Analysis

Abstract:Background: Effective pedagogy that encourages high standards of excellence and commitment to lifelong learning is essential in health professions education to prepare students for real-life challenges such as health disparities and global health issues. Creative learning and innovative teaching strategies empower students with high-quality, practical, real-world knowledge and meaningful skills to reach their potential as future health care providers. Objective: The aim of this study was to explore health profession students' perceptions of whether their learning experiences were associated with good or bad pedagogy during asynchronous discussion forums. The further objective of the study was to identify how perceptions of the best and worst pedagogical practices reflected the students' values, beliefs, and understanding about factors that made a pedagogy good during their learning history. Methods: A netnographic qualitative design was employed in this study. The data were collected on February 3, 2020 by exporting archived data from multiple sessions of a graduate-level nursing course offered between the fall 2016 and spring 2020 semesters at a large private university in the southeast region of the United States. Each student was a data unit. As an immersive data operation, field notes were taken by all research members. Data management and analysis were performed with NVivo 12. Results: A total of 634 posts were generated by 153 students identified in the dataset. Most of these students were female (88.9%). From the 97 categories identified, four themes emerged: (T) teacher presence built through relationship and communication, (E) environment conducive to affective and cognitive learning, (A) assessment and feedback processes that yield a growth mindset, and (M) mobilization of pedagogy through learner- and community-centeredness. Conclusions: The themes that emerged from our analysis confirm findings from previous studies and provide new insights. Our study highlights the value of technology as a tool for effective pedagogy. A resourceful teacher can use various communication techniques to develop meaningful connections between the learner and teacher. Styles of communication will vary according to the unique expectations and needs of learners with different learning preferences; however, the aim is to fully engage each learner, establish a rapport between and among students, and nurture an environment characterized by freedom of expression in which ideas flow freely. We suggest that future research continue to explore the influence of differing course formats and pedagogical modalities on student learning experiences.
Exploring Research Trends on Digital Health in Nursing Science in Korea: A Topic Modeling Approach

Abstract:Digital health technology is utilized in contemporary nursing practice and education. This review explored the scope of digital health applications and major trends in nursing research involving digital health in Korea using topic modeling. Our analysis of data using the Latent Dirichlet Allocation model identified four distinct research topics: nursing education using digital technologies (35.17%), hospital-based nursing practice using digital technologies (19.88%), digital technologies for health education (25.75%), and development of digital technologies to support self-management of chronic conditions (19.20%). Our findings reveal trends, current issues, and gaps in digital health nursing research.
The assessment of interprofessional practice in mental health nursing with ethnographic observation and social network analysis: a confirmatory and bibliometric network study using VOSviewer

Abstract:Introduction: Despite numerous techniques for assessing mental health nursing abilities and accomplishments, most practice in psychiatric wards is based on observable clinical behaviours and actions. VOSviewer can perform bibliographic network analysis (BNA), extracting all central topics that identify core behavioural skills in mental health nursing and essential elements in interprofessional practice (IPP). Aim: The current study captures the critical concepts in mental health nursing assessment by performing a BNA of essential topics on ethnography, social network analysis, and interprofessional care. Methods: A qualitative BNA with a VOSviewer extracted relevant topics from a total of 542 articles obtained from Microsoft API. A subsequent confirmatory quantitative analysis with NVIVO weighed the percentages of the relevant issues and words extracted by the VOSviewer. Boolean keywords searched were 'ethnography,' 'social network analysis,' 'interprofessional', 'psychiatry' and 'hospital'. Results: Major themes identified in ethnography, IPP, and social network analysis for nursing assessment were those of 'communication' (11.63%), 'whole' (9.29%), 'knowledge' (7.66%), 'person' (7.52%), 'activity' (6.31%) and 'collaboration' (6.10%). Discussion: The current study has proven the value of BNA in extracting relevant topics in target literature. VOSviewer captured salient issues in mental health nursing assessment, including ethnographic observations, social network analysis, and IPP. The results confirmed the value of focusing on collaborative care, reciprocity, knowledge management, and information sharing in assessing mental health nursing performances.
Global Trends in Nursing-Related Research on COVID-19: A Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract:Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has significantly impacted healthcare, especially the nursing field. This study aims to explore the current status and hot topics of nursing-related research on COVID-19 using bibliometric analysis. Methods: Between 2019 and 2022, publications regarding nursing and COVID-19 were retrieved from the Web of Science core collection. We conducted an advanced search using the following search query string: TS = ("Novel coronavirus 2019" or "Coronavirus disease 2019" or "COVID 19" or "2019-nCOV" or "SARS-CoV-2" or "coronavirus-2") and TS = ("nursing" or "nurse" or "nursing-care" or "midwife"). Bibliometric parameters were extracted, and Microsoft Excel 2010 and VOSviewer were utilized to identify the largest contributors, including prolific authors, institutions, countries, and journals. VOSviewer and CiteSpace were used to analyze the knowledge network, collaborative maps, hotspots, and trends in this field. Results: A total of 5,267 papers were published between 2020 and 2022. The findings are as follows: the USA, China, and the UK are the top three prolific countries; the University of Toronto, the Harvard Medical School, the Johns Hopkins University, and the Huazhong University of Science & Technology are the top four most productive institutions; Gravenstein, Stefan, and White, Elizabeth M. from Brown University (USA) are the most prolific authors; The International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health is the most productive journal; "COVID-19," "SARS-CoV-2," "nurse," "mental health," "nursing home," "nursing education," "telemedicine," "vaccine-related issues" are the central topics in the past 2 years. Conclusion: Nursing-related research on COVID-19 has gained considerable attention worldwide. In 2020, the major hot topics included "SARS-CoV-2," "knowledge," "information teaching," "mental health," "psychological problems," and "nursing home." In 2021 and 2022, researchers were also interested in topics such as "nursing students," "telemedicine," and "vaccine-related issues," which require further investigation.
