Abstract:Objective:To investigate the independent prognostic risk factors and the application of different postoperative adjuvant treatment strategies on patients with T3-T4 hypopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods:Based on the inclusion criteria, we conducted a retrospective study that analyzed the clinical data of 229 cases who underwent surgery at the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital of Fudan University from 2003 to 2015. Risk factors for postoperative survival were analyzed by univariate and multivariate analysis and patients were stratified according to the independent risk factors. The efficacy of various postoperative adjuvant therapystrategies were compared in different risk groups. Results:Two hundred and twenty-nine patients with T3-T4 primary tumor had 3-year and 5-year overall survival rates of 39.07% and 29.03%, respectively; 3-year and 5-year recurrence-free survival rates were 40.22% and 30.29%, respectively. The results of multivariate analysis demonstrated that tumors in the posterior pharyngeal wall and posterior cricoid region, N2c-N3, lymphovascular invasion, and extranodal extension were independent risk factors. The utility of postoperative adjuvant therapy significantly improved postoperative survival in the high-risk group （P<0.05） and reduced postoperative recurrence significantly （P<0.01）. Patients received adjuvant chemoradiation had better survival than those received adjuvant radiation alone （P<0.05）. Postoperative adjuvant therapy had no significant effect on postoperative survival of patients in the low-risk group. Conclusion:Independent risk factors for patients with T3-T4 hypopharyngeal carcinoma include tumors in the posterior pharyngeal wall and posterior cricoid region, N2c-N3, lymphovascular invasion, as well as extranodal extension. Postoperative adjuvant therapy, especially adjuvant chemoradiation,is recommended for patient with risk factors mentioned above. For patients without those risk factors, postoperative follow-up and re-examination are recommended.

Abstract:Background Since the larynx and pharynx are vital for respiration, swallowing, and speech, chemoradiotherapy (CRT) has been widely applied for T3 hypopharyngeal cancer (HPC) as an organ-preserving treatment. However, CRT can lead to severe late adverse events such as dysphagia and aspiration pneumonia, especially in patients who have difficulty swallowing and/or aspiration at the time of initial diagnosis. Patients and methods Between 2012 and 2020, 86 patients with T3 HPC treated with curative intent at Kobe University Hospital were included in this study. The average age was 69 years old, ranging from 43 to 89. Diseases were classified as Stage III in 29 patients, Stage IVA in 52 patients, and Stage IVB in five patients. Thirty-five (41%) patients were treated by CRT, and 51 (59%) patients were treated by surgery. Patients were followed up for at least two years, and the follow-up period ranged from four to 128 months (median: 45 months). Results Three-year progression-free survival (PFS) rates of patients treated by CRT and patients treated by surgery were 56.2% and 60.3%, respectively. Three-year disease-specific survival (DSS) rates of patients treated by CRT and surgically treated patients were 79.0% vs. 70.8%, respectively. Three-year overall survival (OS) rates of patients treated by CRT and surgically treated patients were 64.5% and 69.0%, respectively. Of note, a significant difference was observed between three-year DSS and three-year PFS (79.0% vs. 56.2%, p = 0.0014) in the patients treated by CRT but not in the patients treated by surgery. Conclusions No significant differences were observed between the PFS, DSS, and OS rates of patients treated by CRT and those of surgically treated patients. Locoregional recurrences after CRT were significantly successfully salvaged by surgical intervention. These results suggest that CRT can be applied as an alternative to surgery without reducing survival, especially for patients without severe clinical symptoms. Meticulous follow-up is mandatory for early detection of recurrence to salvage by surgery and for the management of late adverse events.

Assessment and Treatment Strategies for Occult Contralateral Lymph Node Metastasis in Hypopharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma Patients with Ipsilateral Node-Positive Necks

Abstract:Background: To quantitatively predict the probability of occult contralateral lymph node metastasis (cLNM) for pyriform sinus squamous cell carcinoma (PSSC) patients with ipsilateral node-positive necks to guide postoperative adjuvant treatment. Methods: Two hundred and twenty-seven PSSC patients with ipsilateral lymph node metastasis (iLNM) were retrospectively analyzed. Results: Multivariate logistic analyses showed that five factors including maximum tumor diameter (MTD) of more than 4.0 cm, existence of tumor extension across the midline (EAM), internal jugular vein adhesion (IJVA), lymphovascular invasion (LVI), and lymph nodal fusion ( LNF) were independent risk factors for cLNM. A predictive nomogram was created based on these factors. The accuracy and validity of our model were verified by concordance index (C-index) 0.862 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.810-0.914] in development cohort and 0.860 (95% CI: 0.820-0.900) after 1,000 bootstrapping. The calibration curve also showed a relatively favorable agreement. We then stratified patients into three groups based on their cLNM risk scores. Possible cLNM rates for low-risk, moderate-risk, and relatively high-risk subgroups were 3.6%, 21.8%, and 60.7%, respectively. Conclusions: A new postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy (PART) strategy selection flow chart was created for PSSC patients based on our newly built nomogram which can effectively predict the individualized possibility of cLNM. For patients in high-risk subgroup, therapeutic-dose PART is highly recommended even for those with contralateral clinical N0 neck disease. For those in moderate-risk subgroup, prophylactic-dose PART is recommended. However, for patients in low-risk subgroup, regular follow-up is sufficient given the extremely low occult cLNM rate.
Early esophageal cancer or precancerous lesions treated by endoscopic resection: a single-center retrospective study of 368 cases

Abstract:To investigate the clinicopathological features as well as prognosis of early esophageal squamous cell neoplasm (ESCN) treated with endoscopic resection (ER).Methods 368 patients were collected from 2007 to 2013.Clinicopathological features including invasion depth and margin were evaluated.Survival curves were constructed by using the Kaplan-Meier method.Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression models were performed to identify associations with outcome variables.Results There were 252 males and 116 females with a median age of 61 (16-84) years.Patient numbers of hyperplasia,low grade intraepithelial neoplasia,high grade intraepithelial neoplasia,m1,m2,m3,sm1 and sm2 were 47(12.8％),61 (16.6％),61 (16.6％),54(14.7％),38(10.3％),63(17.1％),12(3.3％) and 32(8.7％),respectively.The cumulative overall 1-year,3-year,and 5-year rates of survival in the metachronous esophageal lesions were 4.1％,12.9％ and 32.6％,respectively.The incidence of lymph node/distant metastasis was 1.54％ in m3,6.25％ in sm2,and 0 in other subgroups.The overall 1-year,3-year,and 5-year survival rates were 99.5％,97.3％,and 87.5％,respectively.Significant difference was identified between sm2 and non-sm2 patients in metastatic rate (P =0.021),however,no significant difference existed between m3 patients and sm2 patients (P =0.252).Metachronous esophageal lesion and survival between sm2 and non-sm2 patients demonstrated no statistical difference (P =0.401 and P =0.634).Conclusion ER is an effective and relatively safe treatment for superficial ESCN.The procedure is still appropriate in selecting sin2 patients.It is necessary to monitor the second primary cancer in sm2 patients during follow-up.

Abstract:Background Hypopharyngeal carcinoma is likely to spread to the lymph nodes, but there is no established strategy for management in transoral surgery. Methods We compared oncologic and functional outcomes in a retrospective multicenter study of patients who underwent transoral surgery for hypopharyngeal carcinoma between 2015 and 2021. Results Two‐hundred and thirty‐two patients were included. Comparing patients with and without adjuvant radiotherapy, 3‐year regional recurrence‐free survival (RRFS) was not significantly different in pN2b and pN2c, but was significantly worse in pN3b without adjuvant radiotherapy. In patients without neck dissection, the 3‐year RRFS was 85.6%, 76.8%, and 70.0% for T1, T2, and T3 primary lesions, respectively, and was significantly worse for T2 or higher (p = 0.035). Conclusions In the absence of extracapsular invasion, regional control did not deteriorate without adjuvant therapy. If prophylactic neck dissection is not performed, careful follow‐up is necessary if the primary lesion is T2 or greater.

Clinical value of early gastroscopy for hypopharyngeal carcinoma

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the clinical value of early gastroscopy for patients with hypopharyngeal cancer.Methods:A total of 231 cases of hypopharyngeal cancer diagnosed and treated in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University from January 2010 to December 2014 were included in the retrospective analysis. The 5-year survival rate of hypopharyngeal cancer and patients accompanied with synchronous esophageal cancer (including early and advanced esophageal cancer), as well as the detection rate of synchronous esophageal cancer by gastroscopy and systemic PET-CT examination were statistically analyzed.Results:The 5-year survival rate of hypopharyngeal cancer was 38.96% (90/231). The 5-year survival rates of 62 patients accompanied with synchronous esophageal cancer and 169 patients without were 27.42% (17/62) and 43.20% (73/169), respectively, with statistic difference ( χ2=4.747, P=0.029). The 5-year survival rate of 49 patients accompanied with synchronous early esophageal cancer was 30.69% (17/49). Among the 13 patients with synchronous progressive esophageal cancer, none had a survival period of 5 years, which was significantly different compared with the patients with synchronous early esophageal cancer ( P=0.013). The detection rates of synchronous esophageal carcinoma by gastroscopy and by systemic PET-CT were 26.84% (62/231) and 14.29% (33/231), respectively, with statistic difference ( χ2=11.14, P<0.01). The detection rates of synchronous early esophageal carcinoma by gastroscopy and by systemic PET-CT were 21.21% (49/231) and 8.66% (20/231), respectively, and the difference was also statistically significant ( χ2=14.328, P<0.01). Conclusion:Hypopharyngeal cancer accompanied with synchronous esophageal cancer is of high risk, which affects the survival rate of patients. Early gastroscopy in hypopharyngeal cancer patients can significantly improve the detection rate of synchronous esophageal cancer, which helps to design individualized regimen to improve the survival rate of patients.
Effectiveness and outcomes of endoscopic resection for superficial pharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas

Abstract:Background With the development of endoscopic imaging, superficial pharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma can now be detected during routine endoscopy. Recently, the effectiveness of endoscopic resection for superficial pharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma have been reported. Methods This study had a retrospective single‐center design that included patients with superficial pharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma who underwent endoscopic resection. A total 47 patients with 53 lesions were analyzed. Results En bloc and R0 resection rates were 83.0% and 56.6%. Local recurrence and cervical lymph node metastasis (CLNM) were detected in 1 and 3 patients during follow‐up. The macroscopic type 0‐I was an independent factor for CLNM. The 3‐year cumulative incidence of metachronous pharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma following endoscopic resection was 33.0%, and the 5‐year overall survival rate was 89.2%. Conclusions Endoscopic resection is an effective treatment for superficial pharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas, and the macroscopic type 0‐I is a useful predictor of CLNM.

Abstract:Cholecystokinin octapeptide (CCK-8) and related peptides have been identified in animal and human brain'-' and shown to bind to distinct receptors.6s7 The function of these peptides is unclear. The observation that CCK-like immunoreactivity may be contained with dopamine (DA) within DA neurons suggests that CCK peptides may modulate DA In view of the DA hypothesis of schizophrenia the foregoing speculation has led to the idea that CCK peptides may be relevant to the pathophysiology of ~chizophrenia.~~~." Although some evidence for an inhibitory effect of CCK peptides on DA function has been observed in a n i m a l ~ , l ~ ' ~ it is not known whether this effect also occurs in man. In the past few years we have investigated (1) the effect of CCK peptides on DA function in normal subjects by evaluating their effect 'on basal prolactin secretion and apomorphine-induced growth hormone secretion and (2) the effect of CCK peptides on schiozophrenic psychopathology. Our neuroendocrine results (TABLE 1)I5.l6 are compatible with an inhibitory effect of CCK-33 and CCK-8 (or fragments) on DA function, at least in the hypothalamic-pituitary axis. In preliminary open studies we found that both CCK-33'7s18 and CCK-8I9 improved psychotic symptoms in neuroleptic-resistant chronic schizophrenic patients who were maintained on neuroleptic medication. We now report our observations on the effect of CCK-8, the predominant CCK peptide in the central nervous system (CNS), in chronic schizophrenics in a double-blind placebo-controlled trial.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To investigate the clinical characteristics, surgical treatment outcomes and prognostic factors of hypopharyngeal carcinoma. METHODS A retrospective review of the Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University patients' database between January 2003 and June 2013 was conducted and a total of 386 patients were enrolled in the study. Patients' clinical and oncological information was collected and survival rates were analyzed using Kaplan-Meier curves. Prognostic factors were evaluated with multivariate Cox model survival analysis. RESULTS Among the 386 patients 95.9% were males and 4.1% were females, with an average age of (58.4±9.4) years. The primary tumor sites were pyriform sinus (76.7%), posterior hypopharyngeal wall (17.3%) and postcricoid region (6.0%). There were 31(8.0%), 83(21.5%), 175(45.3%) and 97(25.1%) patients with stage T1 to T4, respectively, 99(25.6%), 74(19.2%), 181(46.9%) and 32(8.3%) patients with stage N0 to N3, respectively , and 3 patients with distant metastasis to lung on initial diagnosis. Second primary cancers were found in 28 cases (7.3%). The 5-year overall survival (OS), disease specific survival (DSS) and disease free survival (DFS) were 45.8%, 48.1% and 46.0% respectively according to Kaplan-Meier survival curves. Multivariate Cox regression model showed significant association between 5-year overall survival rate and T stage (P<0.001), N stage (P=0.003) and second primary tumors (P=0.017). Advanced T stage and lymphovascular invasion were associated with a higher rate of recurrence (P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS Hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma has a dismal prognosis, with high rates of submucosal infiltration, cervical lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis. Treatment choices should be made according to TNM stage and overall health conditions in order to achieve ideal oncologic and functional results. Surgery with postoperative chemoradiation therapy is the main treatment for advanced-stage hypopharyngeal cancer.

Abstract:Background/Aim: To assess factors that predict detection of tumors and oncologic outcomes in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma of unknown primary (SCCUP). Patients and Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study at a single tertiary care institution. Results: The primary site was detected at examination under anesthesia (EUA) in 92 (51.1%) patients. The primary site was detected by directed biopsies in 60 (65%), palatine tonsillectomy in 28 (30.4%), and lingual tonsillectomy in 4 patients (4.3%). Four of eight lingual tonsillectomies were positive (50%). Primary locations included: palatine tonsils (51, 28.3%), base of tongue (37, 20.6%), larynx (4, 2.2%), oral cavity (3, 1.67%) and nasopharynx (1, 0.6%). Human papillomavirus (HPV) positive status (HR=0.26, p=0.004) and treatment with chemoradiation (CRT) (HR=0.38, p=0.004) were associated with better disease free survival (DFS). Conclusion: A primary site was located after aggressive investigation in approximately half of the patients. More research is warranted towards the use of lingual tonsillectomy. Predictors of favorable prognosis included HPV positive status and treatment with CRT.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Correct pre-therapeutic staging of the first primary carcinoma (FPC) and detection of simultaneous second primary carcinomas (SSPCs) decisively influence therapy and prognosis of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC). The aim of this study was to determine the benefit of pre-therapeutic triple endoscopy for detection of SSPC and pre-therapeutic T category.METHODS: A cohort of 234 HNSCC patients with completed triple endoscopy was reviewed, focusing on pre-therapeutic T category and SSPC. Risk stratification for different subsites was evaluated.RESULTS: The risk for SSPC was 5.56%. FPC of the oral cavity and oropharynx had the highest prevalence of SSPC (46.15%, 38.46%); most SSPCs were found in the hypopharynx. No SSPCs were found in the oral cavity, nasopharynx and oesophagus. Significant results in correct pre-therapeutic T staging have been achieved for the larynx (p = 0.021) and the oropharynx (p = 0.001).CONCLUSIONS: Triple endoscopies seem to be inadequate for SSPC detection in HNSCC patients. Endoscopies of the trachea and oesophagus should be reconsidered. Alternatively, risk-directed endoscopies of the hypopharynx might be performed in patients with oral cancer. For evaluation of resectability, conducting triple endoscopy could be reduced to a single endoscopy because the complication rate is low and pre-therapeutic T staging can be improved.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To investigate the clinicopathological features, treatment outcomes and prognosis of patients with oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).METHODS:Retrospective review of 318 consecutive cases with OSCC treated from January 1999 to December 2011. Survival rates and prognostic factors were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method and multivariate Cox model survival analysis respectively. There were 281 males and 37 females, with a median age of 56 years. Of the 318 cases, 163 carcinomas were from tonsil, 108 from tongue base and 47 from soft palate-uvula. The presenting symptoms were pharyngalgia (128 cases, 40.3%), neck masses (71 cases, 22.3%), foreign body sensation in the pharynx (63 cases, 19.8%) and dental ulcer (44 cases, 13.8%). The median time from onset of the first symptoms until diagnosis of OSCC was 3 months. Of the 318 OSCC, 75 were with high grade, 110 with intermediate grade and 133 with low grade, including 10 patients at stageI, 39 at stage II, 68 at stage III and 201 at stage IV.RESULTS:The rates of lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and second primary carcinoma were 72.3%, 13.2% and 7.9%, respectively. Of 318 patients, 117 received radiotherapy alone, 66 underwent surgery plus postoperative radiotherapy, 59 underwent preoperative radiotherapy plus surgery, 33 received concomitant chemotherapy and radiotherapy, 20 received concomitant molecular targeted therapy and radiotherapy, 16 underwent surgery alone and 7 received induction chemotherapy plus radiotherapy. The 3-, 5-year overall survival (OS) rates were 58.4%, 50.7%, respectively, and the median overall survival time was 60.1 months. Ages (P = 0.034), gender(P = 0.024), smoking and alcohol consumptions(P = 0.008), doses of radiotherapy(P = 0.046) and clinic stages(P = 0.001) were independent factors for OS.CONCLUSIONS:OSCC is poor in prognosis, with a high incidence of cervical lymph node metastasis. Radiotherapy and salvage surgery are the main treatments for OSCC.
Clinical Value of Endoscopic Esophageal Screening in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma Patients

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the clinical benefit of routine esophageal screening in newly diagnosed head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) patients. Study design: Retrospective cohort study. Setting: Tertiary medical center. Methods: This retrospective study selected newly diagnosed HNSCC patients from the Chang Gung Research Database between January 2007 and December 2019. Patients who underwent endoscopic esophageal examinations within 2 months of the initial diagnosis of HNSCC were included in the screening group. The clinical outcomes of the screening and nonscreening groups were analyzed. Results: In total, 13,627 HNSCC patients were included, comprising 1032 females and 12,640 males (mean age 55.0 years), and the esophageal screening group included 7033 (51.4%) patients. The prevalence rate of esophageal tumors was 4.5%. Hypopharyngeal cancer patients were the most likely to have (13.4%) second primary esophageal tumors. The American Joint Committee on Cancer stage of the esophageal tumor was lower in the esophageal screening group than in the nonesophageal screening group. The oral, oropharyngeal, and hypopharyngeal cancer patients in the esophageal screening group had better survival outcomes than their counterparts in the nonesophageal screening group. Conclusion: Endoscopic esophageal screening of newly diagnosed HNSCC patients can detect esophageal tumors at an early stage and improve overall survival. Esophageal screening could be a routine survey in HNSCC patients, particularly those with lifestyle risk factors and in countries with a high prevalence of esophageal cancer.
Early Death Incidence and Prediction among Patients with Hypopharynx Squamous Cell Carcinomas.

Abstract:Background: The objective of this study is to evaluate the incidence and associated factors for early death (ED) in hypopharynx squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) patients. Materials and Methods: Patients were extracted from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database between 2004 and 2014. The ED (survival time ≤3 months) rate was calculated, and associated risk factors were evaluated by the logistic regression models. Results: A total of 2659 patients were analyzed and 307 (11.5%) patients died within 3 months after cancer diagnosis, among whom 243 (79.2%) patients died from cancer-specific cause. In univariate analyses, advanced age, divorced/single/widowed (DSW), non-Caucasian, advanced T classification, distant metastasis, and no surgery were significantly associated with ED (P < .05, respectively). Multivariate analyses showed that advanced age, DSW, advanced T classification, distant metastasis, and no surgery were significantly associated with all-cause and cancer-specific ED. Conclusion: Our results showed that a total of 11.5% patients with hypopharynx SCC suffered ED, among whom 79.2% patients died from cancer-specific cause. Predictors of ED are primarily related to age ≥62 years, advanced T classification, distant metastasis, and no surgery but also include unmarried status; better prognostic and predictive tools for select ED patients in larger sample size are needed.

Abstract:<section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Objectives/Hypothesis</h3><p>Hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a rare but aggressive malignancy, with low survival rates and high incidence of tumor and treatment‐related morbidity. This study aims to analyze the long‐term oncologic and functional outcomes of a large cohort of patients and to determine prognostic factors.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Study Design</h3><p>Retrospective cohort study.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Methods</h3><p>The records of all patients diagnosed with hypopharyngeal SCC and treated with curative intent at our tertiary referral center were reviewed. Patient and initial disease characteristics, features, and complications of primary treatment, recurrence patterns, and corresponding treatments and the oncologic and functional long‐term outcome were determined.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Results</h3><p>For a total of 179 patients, primary radiotherapy (RT) was the predominant treatment modality (78%), whereas 22% underwent primary surgery. The median, 2‐year, and 5‐year overall survival (OS) for the study cohort were 47 months, 64% and 43%. The median survival after first and second relapse was 7 and 6 months, respectively. The 2 and 5‐year relapse‐free survival (RFS) was 52% and 36%. The median RFS after first relapse and salvage treatment was 9 months. A nodal status of ≥cN2 (HR = 1.89, CI:1.21–3.05, <i>P</i> < .005) and any other primary tumor localization than pyriform sinus (HR = 1.60, CI: 1.04–2.42, <i>P</i> < .05) were identified as independent risk factors for shorter OS and RFS. Regarding functional outcome, the 2‐ and 5‐year laryngectomy‐free‐survival was 55% and 37%, respectively. </p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Conclusions</h3><p>In this large cohort with long‐term follow‐up, any other primary tumor localization than pyriform sinus and a nodal status of ≥cN2 were identified as risk factors for reduced OS and RFS.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Level of Evidence</h3><p>4 <i>Laryngoscope</i>, 2020 </p></section>

Abstract:Purpose To analyze the potential variables affecting the survival of patients undergoing primary surgery for hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Patients and methods Between August 2007 and December 2016, 93 patients with primary hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas undergoing radical surgery at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center were reviewed. The clinicopathological features were analyzed retrospectively. The optimal cutoff values were determined based on the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. Pearson correlation coefficients were used to assess the correlations between variables. The Kaplan–Meier and Cox proportional hazard methods were used to evaluate the impact of variables on overall survival (OS), disease-specific survival (DSS), and disease-free survival (DFS). Results Cox multivariate analysis revealed that a depth of invasion (DOI) ≥ 4.3 mm was correlated with inferior OS (P=0.045), DSS (P=0.046), and DFS (P=0.046). A primary tumor volume (PTV) ≥0.36 mL was related to poor OS (P=0.018), DSS (P=0.026), and DFS (P=0.036). A lymph node density (LND) ≥0.07 was also associated with worse OS (P=0.014) and DSS (P=0.045). Moreover, additional prognostic value was observed in the combined use of PTV and LND. Conclusion The DOI, PTV, and LND obtained from the surgical specimens could provide additional valuable information for prognostic stratification and allowed the more appropriate selection of suitable candidates for more aggressive adjuvant therapy.
