Abstract:The stochastic sensing based on single nanopores is considered as one of the more relevant breakthroughs in bioanalysis, as rightly summarized in previous reviews. Inspired by it, the use of solid-state nanochannel arrays has paved the way to electrochemical sensing systems whose detection principle is different to that of the stochastic sensing. In view of the growing interest and the continuous research and improvements in this field, an update is much needed. Moreover, the great potential of these systems for clinical diagnostics deserves a special focus. In this context, in this review recent trends on the use of solid-state nanochannel arrays-based electroanalytical systems for the detection of biomarkers of interest in clinical diagnostics are presented. In particular, we focus only on nanochannel arrays prepared on materials such as alumina, silica, polyethylene terephthalate, titanium dioxide and polystyrene nanospheres. Conclusions and prospects for future improvements in the field are also included.
