Abstract:Objective:To evaluate the effectiveness of gastrodin injection for treatment vertigo in clinical.Methods:According to the requirements of evidence-based medicine,there were 16 articles Treatment of Vertigo after retrieving literatures on randomized controlled trials(RCTs) of gastrodin injection from Chinese periodical full-text database,and PubMed database. Therapeutic effects on cerebralinfarction were selected as the study indexes.RevMan5.0 software provided by Cochrane collaboration net was applied for data processing and statistical analysis.Results:16 literatures were incorporated by Meta-analysis and the results showed that Gastrodin injection group was better than the control group in terms of clini - cal curative effect.Conclusion:From the existing clinical evidences,Gastrodin injection is more effective than other drugs in the Treatment of Vertigo.
Clinical and economic analysis of Gastrodin injection for dizziness or vertigo: a retrospective cohort study based on electronic health records in China

Abstract:Abstract Background Dizziness and vertigo are common clinical symptoms. Gastrodin injection has shown clinical effects on dizziness or vertigo. However, little is known about the effectiveness and costs of combining Gastrodin injection with conventional treatment on dizziness or vertigo in daily practice. This study aimed to analyze the clinical and economic effects of Gastrodin injection for patients with dizziness or vertigo in comparison to Extract of Ginkgo Biloba Leaves injection in real-world practice. Methods Data was collected from the Hospital Information System of 131 hospitals across China from January to December 2018. Patients whose primary discharge diagnosis was dizziness or vertigo according to ICD-10 diagnostic coding were included and divided into two samples: sample of dizziness or vertigo; sample of dizziness or vertigo, with the complication of cerebral infarction. Comparative analysis of the medical cost per hospitalization, hospitalization duration, effective rates, and cure rates between the group of Gastrodin injection and the group of Extract of Ginkgo Biloba Leaves injection was conducted. Propensity Score Matching was used to control potential confounding factors. Results In the sample of dizziness or vertigo, although there was no significant differences on hospitalization duration ( P = 0.080), the group of Gastrodin injection was significantly better than the group of Extract of Ginkgo Biloba Leaves injection ( P < 0.001) in terms of treatment effect and the per capita hospitalization cost. In the sample of dizziness or vertigo, with the complication of cerebral infarction, there was no significant difference ( P = 0.371) in terms of hospitalization duration, but the group of Gastrodin injection was significantly better than the group of Extract of Ginkgo Biloba Leaves injection ( P = 0.009) in terms of treatment effect, and significant difference regarding the per capita hospitalization cost ( P < 0.001). Conclusions Gastrodin injection showed advantages for inpatients with dizziness or vertigo compared with Extract of Ginkgo Biloba Leaves injection. Future studies using prospective pragmatic controlled trials can test and explore more about the effects of Gastrodin injections on dizziness or vertigo.

A comparative study of vestibular improvement and gastrointestinal effect of betahistine and gastrodin in mice

Abstract:Betahistine and gastrodin are the first-line medications for vestibular disorders in clinical practice, nevertheless, their amelioration effects on vestibular dysfunctions still lack direct comparison and their unexpected extra-vestibular effects remain elusive. Recent clinical studies have indicated that both of them may have effects on the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Therefore, we purposed to systematically compare both vestibular and GI effects induced by betahistine and gastrodin and tried to elucidate the mechanisms underlying their GI effects. Our results showed that betahistine and gastrodin indeed had similar therapeutic effects on vestibular-associated motor dysfunction induced by unilateral labyrinthectomy. However, betahistine reduced total GI motility with gastric hypomotility and colonic hypermotility, whereas gastrodin did not influence total GI motility with only slight colonic hypermotility. In addition, betahistine, at normal dosages, induced a slight injury of gastric mucosa. These GI effects may be due to the different effects of betahistine and gastrodin on substance P and vasoactive intestinal peptide secretion in stomach and/or colon, and agonistic/anatgonistic effects of betahistine on histamine H1 and H3 receptors expressed in GI mucosal cells and H3 receptors distributed on nerves within the myenteric and submucosal plexuses. Furthermore, treatment of betahistine and gastrodin had potential effects on gut microbiota composition, which could lead to changes in host-microbiota homeostasis in turn. These results demonstrate that gastrodin has a consistent improvement effect on vestibular functions compared with betahistine but less effect on GI functions and gut microbiota, suggesting that gastrodin may be more suitable for vestibular disease patients with GI dysfunction.

Effects of Gastrodin Injection on Blood Pressure and Vasoactive Substances in Treatment of Old Patients with Refractory Hypertension: a Randomized Controlled Trial

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To examine and determine the contents of endothelin (ET) and nitric oxide (NO) in plasma, and to observe the effects of gastrodin injection on blood pressure, ET and NO levels in old patients with refractory hypertension.METHODS:A total of 63 old patients with refractory hypertension, 30 patients with common hypertension and 30 healthy people were included. The contents of ET and NO in plasma of patients in different groups and healthy people were examined and analyzed. The old patients with refractory hypertension were randomly divided into two groups: gastrodin-treated and routine treatment groups. Besides conventional hypotensive drugs, intravenous drip infusion of 1 000 mg gastrodin was administered to the patients in gastrodin-treated group for two courses (4 weeks), while the patients in routine treatment group were treated only with conventional hypotensive drugs. The changes of blood pressure, ET and NO levels before and after treatment in different groups were measured.RESULTS:The plasma level of ET in refractory hypertension group was higher than that in common hypertension group (t=3.27, P=0.008), while the level of NO was lower (t=-3.81, P=0.002). The systolic pressure and pulse pressure difference in gastrodin-treated group were decreased significantly after one course of treatment (t=1.85, P=0.03; t=1.74, P=0.04). The level of ET in gastrodin-treated group decreased gradually after treatment, but there were no significant difference between before treatment and two courses of treatment, while the level of NO in gastrodin-treated group was increased after treatment (t=-2.70; P=0.04).CONCLUSION:Gastrodin injection is beneficial to old patients with refractory hypertension, and can improve the balance of ET and NO levels in plasma.

Research on the Medication Rules of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Treatment of Vertigo Based on Data Mining

Abstract:In this paper, based on the modern application database of prescriptions, the medication and composition rules of ancient and modern prescriptions for the treatment of vertigo are discussed. Extracting the traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions in the modern application database and their main diseases are vertigo, meniere’s syndrome and meniere’s disease. By using of the data mining methods such as frequency analysis, association rule analysis and factor analysis to explore the prescription law of vertigo treatment. After screening, a total of 107 prescriptions were obtained, involving 170 traditional Chinese medicines, which were used for 938 times. The core traditional Chinese medicines for the treatment of vertigo mainly include atractylodes macrocephala, alisma orientalis, poria cocos, licorice, pinellia ternata, gastrodia elata, ligusticum chuanxiong, etc. The traditional Chinese medicines for the treatment of vertigo mostly belong to tonifying deficiency, relieving surface and promoting water and dampness. The properties are mainly cold and warm. The medicine tastes sweet, bitter and pungent, and mostly enter the liver meridian, lung meridian and spleen meridian. A total of 10 drug pair combinations, 18 three drug combinations and 7 four drug combinations were obtained by association rules. Seven common factors were extracted by factor analysis. Through data mining on the prescriptions related to the treatment of vertigo, the potential rules of traditional Chinese medicine in the prescriptions are found, and the treatment principles and methods embodied in the core traditional Chinese medicine and treatment are clarified, which provides a reference for the clinical treatment and medication of vertigo.

Abstract:Background: Dyslipidemia is commonly characterized by the abnormal quantity and quality of lipids in plasma, which is strongly associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and also a major cause of morbidity and even leads to mortality. In China and East Asia, Chinese herbal medicine has been widely used to treat diverse diseases for thousands of years. As an important means of traditional Chinese medicine treatment, Chinese herbal medicine plays a more important role in the treatment of dyslipidemia. The aim of this study is to assess the efficacy and safety of Chinese herbal medicine for dyslipidemia. Methods: Seven electronic databases (included The Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, Embase, CNKI, VIP, CBM, and WANGFANG) will be searched regardless of publication date or language. Randomized controlled trials will be included if they recruited participants with dyslipidemia for assessing the effect of Chinese herbal medicine vs control (placebo, no treatment, and other therapeutic agents). Primary outcomes will include serum lipid and advent events. Two authors will independently scan the articles searched, extract the data from articles included, and assess the risk of bias by Cochrane tool of risk of bias. Disagreements will be resolved by discussion among authors. All analysis will be performed based on the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions. Dichotomous variables will be reported as risk ratio or odds ratio with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) and continuous variables will be summarized as mean difference or standard mean difference with 95% CIs. Results: This review will be to assess the efficacy and safety of Chinese herbal medicine for dyslipidemia. Conclusions: Our findings will assist clinicians and health professionals make clinical decisions regarding dyslipidemia prevention, and promising way for prevention and treatment of patients with dyslipidemia. Ethics and dissemination: This study is a protocol for systematic review of Chinese herbal medicine as a treatment of dyslipidemia. This review will be published in a journal and disseminated in print by peer-review. Systematic review registration: PROSPERO (CRD42018085556).
Effects of vestibular rehabilitation training combined with anti-vertigo drugs on vertigo and balance function in patients with vestibular neuronitis: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the effects of vestibular rehabilitation training (VRT) combined with anti-vertigo drugs on vertigo and balance function in patients with vestibular neuronitis (VN). Data sources: PubMed, EMBASE, The Cochrane Library, Web of Science, CNKI, Wan Fang Data, VIP, and CBM were searched until July 13, 2023. Participants: Patients with vestibular neuronitis participated in the study. Results: Twenty one studies including 1,415 patients were included in this review for meta-analysis. According to the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) quality assessment, four studies received high quality (≥seven scores) and 17 studies received moderate quality (six scores). The meta-analysis showed that VRT combined with anti-vertigo drugs significantly reduced the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) score, the Vestibular Disorders Activities of Daily Living Scale (VADL) score and the Canal Paresis (CP) score, and improved the overall efficiency and the Berg Balance Scale (BBS) score, promoting vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMPs) returned to normal in VN compared to simple anti-vertigo drugs or VRT alone. Conclusion: The results of this meta-analysis demonstrate the efficacy and safety of VRT combined with anti-vertigo drugs in patients with VN. Combined therapy can alleviate vestibular dysfunction such as vertigo and vomiting in patients, improve daily activity ability and balance ability, in addition to VRT has fewer adverse reactions, so it is extremely safe. However, there are shortcomings such as lack of long-term follow-up and different frequency and duration of treatment. Therefore, future randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with larger sample sizes and longer-term observations are needed to verify the effectiveness of VRT in combination with anti-vertigo drugs for VN. Abstract:INTRODUCTION:Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is recognised as the leading cause of peripheral vertigo in adults. The canalith repositioning procedure (CRP) can be used for effective treatment of BPPV. However, some patients experience residual dizziness (RD) even after successful CRP, resulting in a significant negative impact on their daily function and quality of life. Exercise-based vestibular rehabilitation (VR) has been proven as an effective method for managing dizziness and has been applied in patients with various vestibular disorders. However, the efficacy of VR to specifically target RD post-BPPV is unknown. This study aims to investigate the efficacy of VR, compared with betahistine or VR plus betahistine treatment, in the treatment of patients experiencing RD after successful CRP.METHODS AND ANALYSIS:A randomised single-blinded controlled trial will be carried out to determine the efficacy of VR compared with betahistine or VR plus betahistine treatment in mitigating RD and improving balance function. Patients with BPPV who experience RD after successful CRP will be recruited. Participants will be randomised into one of three groups to receive VR, betahistine or VR plus betahistine. There will be 61 participants in each group. The primary outcomes will be changes in the patient's daily function as measured by the Vestibular Activities and Participation questionnaire and balance ability assessed by computerised dynamic posturography. The secondary outcomes will be dizziness-related handicap, otolith function and duration of RD symptoms. Outcome measures will be noted at baseline and at 2, 4 and 8 weeks post-randomisation. This study has the potential to reduce unnecessary anti-vertigo drug prescriptions and may lead to a general consensus regarding the use of VR as a first-line treatment for RD in patients with BPPV.ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION:This trial received ethical approval from the Institutional Review Board of Eye and ENT Hospital of Fudan University (reference number 2017046). Abstract:Background: Cervicogenic dizziness is a clinical syndrome characterized by neck pain and dizziness, which has a rising incidence in recent years. In China, manual therapy has been widely used in the treatment of cervicogenic dizziness, but there is no high-quality medical evidence to support its effectiveness and safety. The purpose of this study was to assess the safety and efficacy of Shi's manual therapy (SMT) on the treatment of cervicogenic dizziness. Methods: A multicenter randomized controlled trial (RCT) will perform on 106 patients (18≤ages≤65) who meet the diagnostic criteria of cervicogenic dizziness. Patients will be randomly allocated to the intervention group and the control group at a ratio of 1:1. Participants in the control group will be treated with Merislon (Betahistine Mesilate Tablets). Participants in the intervention group will be treated with SMT. The primary outcome is the response rate at week 2, which is defined as the proportion of patients who reduce their disability level measured by the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) score relative to baseline. Key secondary outcomes include DHI scores at weeks 1, 2, and 6 and changes from baseline, time to disappearance of dizziness symptoms, and recurrence rate of dizziness symptoms. Safety will be assessed by adverse events, physical examination and vital signs. Discussion: This trial aims to provide high-quality evidence-based medical data to demonstrate that SMT can reduce dizziness in patients with cervicogenic dizziness effectively and safely. Acupuncture for vertebrobasilar insufficiency vertigo: Protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:Background: Vertebrobasilar insufficiency vertebrobasilar (VBIV) is a serious nerve disease and many old people suffer from it. Acupuncture has been widely applied in the treatment of VBIV. However, to our knowledge, there has been no systematic review or meta-analysis of randomized controlled trails regarding the effectiveness of this treatment. Here, we provide a protocol to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture for VBIV. Methods: Relevant randomized controlled trials in 5 databases (EMBASE, PubMed, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials [Cochrane Library], Chinese Biomedical Literature Database [CBM], China National Knowledge Infrastructure [CNKI]) will be comprehensively searched by 2 researchers in December 2017. The clinical efficacy will be accepted as the primary outcomes. We will also use RevMan V.5.3 software to compute the data synthesis carefully when a meta-analysis is allowed. Results: This study will provide a high-quality synthesis of current evidence of acupuncture for VBIV from several aspects including clinical efficacy, the blood flow velocity of the left vertebral artery (LVA), the right vertebral artery (RVA), the basilar artery (BA)and adverse events. Conclusion: The conclusion of our systematic review will provide evidence to judge whether acupuncture is an effective and safety intervention for patient with VBIV.

Abstract:Introduction: Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common cause of peripheral vertigo among adults. Successful treatment often requires an appropriate canalith repositioning procedure (CRP), which has proven effective in the treatment of BPPV. However, some patients experience residual dizziness (RD) after CRP, affecting their daily activities and quality of life. Although oral betahistine is a common clinical treatment for RD, some patients may discontinue this medication due to adverse effects. Conversely, acupuncture has demonstrated efficacy in treating dizziness with minimal adverse effects. However, to date, no trials have directly compared the efficacy of acupuncture and betahistine in treating RD. Our goal was to assess the noninferiority of acupuncture in treating RD compared with the commonly used oral betahistine treatment. Methods and analysis: A randomized, controlled, non-inferiority trial was conducted to compare the effectiveness of acupuncture and betahistine in patients with BPPV who experience RD after a successful CRP. Eighty-four participants were randomly assigned to two treatment groups, each receiving either acupuncture or betahistine. The assessors and statisticians were blinded to treatment allocation. The primary outcomes were the response rate and change in vertigo level, and secondary outcomes included Visual Analog Scores and the presence and change in depressive symptoms among patients. Scale measures were recorded at baseline, 2, 4, and 12 weeks after randomization. This trial aims to provide causal evidence supporting the non-inferiority of acupuncture therapy relative to oral betahistine, offering an alternative treatment avenue for patients intolerant to betahistine. Ethics and dissemination: Ethics approval was obtained from the Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, with permission number 2023-095-KY. Written informed consent was obtained from the enrolled patients.
Clinical efficacy of vestibular assessment and rehabilitation training in peripheral vestibular vertigo

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of vestibular assessment and rehabilitation training in patients with peripheral vestibular vertigo. Method: This was a retrospective study. A total of 169 patients diagnosed with peripheral vestibular vertigo, admitted to Cangzhou People's Hospital between January 2020 and January 2023 were divided into control group (83 cases) and observation group (86 cases). The control group received medication-based treatment, while the observation group was provided with combined treatment of medication and vestibular rehabilitation training. Assessment of recovery included the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI), Vestibular Symptom Index (VSI), and Activities-specific Balance Confidence (ABC) scale before and at two, four, and eight weeks post-treatment. Psychological status, sleep quality, and life quality were evaluated. Both groups underwent the Fukuda stepping test and timed balance test. Result: At two, four, and eight weeks post‐treatment, both groups exhibited significantly lower DHI‐P, DHI‐F, DHI‐E, VSI, and ABC scores compared to pre‐treatment (p<0.05). The observation group showed significantly lower DHI‐P, DHI‐F, DHI‐E, VSI, and ABC scores than the control group at two and four weeks post‐treatment (p<0.05). After treatment, both groups demonstrated reduced body deviation angles and increased time without falling in the Fukuda stepping test (p<0.05). Notably, the observation group had significantly better outcomes (p<0.05). Conclusion: In comparison to medication‐based treatment alone, a combined approach involving medication treatment and vestibular rehabilitation training may demonstrate early improvements in vertigo symptoms, enhance balance capabilities, and ameliorate psychological well‐being, sleep quality, and overall quality of life for patients. doi: https://doi.org/10.12669/pjms.40.7.8662 How to cite this: Wang H, Zheng J, Li F, Feng C, Zhang N. Clinical efficacy and safety of flunarizine tablets combined with betahistine hydrochloride tablets in patients with vertebrobasilar insufficiency vertigo

Abstract:Objective: To explore the clinical efficacy and safety of betahistine hydrochloride tablets in patients with vertebrobasilar insufficiency vertigo (VBIV). Methods: A total of 133 patients with vertigo caused by vertebrobasilar insufficiency treated in The First People's Hospital of Shangqiu City from March 2019 to August 2021 were selected and analyzed retrospectively. Among them, 63 patients treated with flunarizine tablets were seen as the control group (CG), and 70 with flunarizine tablets combined with betastine hydrochloride tablets were considered as the observation group (OG). The treatment efficacy and adverse reactions were compared, and the vertigo symptom score, quality of life and vertebrobasilar artery hemodynamics were observed before and after treatment. Results: The effective rate in the OG was higher than that of the CG (P<0.05), but there was no obvious difference in adverse reactions (P>0.05). Compared with the CG, the arterial hemodynamics and cerebral blood perfusion as well as SF-36 score were higher, while the scores of dizziness assessment rating scale (DARS) and dizziness handicap inventory (DHI) scale were lower in the OG (all P<0.05). Conclusion: Betahistine hydrochloride can effectively improve arterial hemodynamics and cerebral blood flow perfusion in vertebrobasilar insufficiency patients and enhance the clinical efficacy with high safety profile, which is worthy of wide application.

Abstract:BACKGROUND:Gastroparesis affects the quality of life of many patients, but there is no effective treatment. Now, complementary and alternative medicine originated from China is gradually accepted by the world because of its unique treatment principles and relatively safe treatment methods. However, at present, there is still a lack of more definitive clinical application evidence for the treatment of gastroparesis with complementary and alternative medicine to confirm the safety and efficacy of complementary and alternative medicine in the treatment of gastroparesis caused by various causes. More comprehensive and stronger evidence-based medicine evidence is needed.METHODS:We will retrieve literatures using Medline, Embase, the Cochrane Library database, Web of science, CNKI, VIP, CBM, and WanFang. We will look for RCTs or CCTs on the use of complementary and alternative medicine in the treatment of gastroparesis, and extract relevant data into the excel sheet. The whole retrieval and data extraction process were carried out by 2 researchers independently. Then we will use meta-analysis to make statistical analysis of all the results and make a systematic review of all the included literatures.RESULTS:All results and safety data were analyzed for a comprehensive evaluation and/or descriptive analysis of the efficacy and safety of complementary and alternative therapies for gastroparesis.CONCLUSION:This study will provide more comprehensive clinical evidence for the treatment of gastroparesis with complementary and alternative therapies.REGISTRATION:The research has been registered and approved on the INPLASY.COM website. Abstract:The article deals with the diagnosis of dizziness as one of the most common reasons for contacting the primary care system. The term “vertigo” refers to the illusory sensation of the rotational movement of objects around the patient or the patient himself. Traditionally, the clinic distinguishes “systemic” and “non-systemic” dizziness. However, the use of these two terms “systemic” (rotational) and “non-systemic” (presyncope, imbalance caused by a violation of the neural mechanisms for maintaining balance and balance of the body and postural phobic) dizziness can make it difficult to diagnose the etiological factor due to the ambiguity of the term “non-systemic”. The most severe and painful for the patient is rotational dizziness. Most often, dizziness is caused by pathological changes in the peripheral part of the vestibular system: vestibular neuronitis, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, Meniere’s disease. Treatment of patients with dizziness involves etiopathogenetic and symptomatic therapy. Important, from a practical point of view, is the relief of rotational dizziness itself, regardless of its etiology. A number of studies have shown the possibility of using the combined drug cinnarizine 20 mg + dimenhydrinate 40 mg in the treatment of peripheral and central vertigo. The effectiveness of therapy for dizziness with the use of a combined drug is due to the fact that one component (cinnarizine) acts mainly on peripheral structures (labyrinth), and the second (dimenhydrinate) – on central (vestibular nuclei and related centers of the brain stem) structures, providing a good vestibulolytic effect . The drug has minimal undesirable effects, which makes it possible to use it in patients of different age groups. In the article, the authors consider the effectiveness of a fixed combination of cinnarizine 20 mg and dimenhydrinate 40 mg for the treatment and prevention of rotational verti go (vertigo) of various etiologies with the analysis of clinical cases.
The curative effect of standardized Ginkgo Bilobaete Extract(Egb 761) on peripheral vestibular vertigo

Abstract:Purpose To verify the curative effect of standardized Ginkgo Bilobate Extract (Egb 761) on peripheral vestibular vertigo. Methods 60 patients with peripheral vestibular vertigo were divided into two groups, and the group on test and the control group were given Egb 761or Betahistine respectively for 12 weeks. Results The frequency and duration,and the overall symptoms of vertigo at the end of the 12th week of the group on test are significantly betler than those of the control group after Wilcoxon Rank Sum test (p 0.05),After 12 weeks' treatment,no significant difference of total effective rate was found between the two groups,but the significant effective rate of the group on test is 44.8%(13/29), significantly higher than the control group' s 12.9%(4/31 ),x2 = 7.520,p = 0.006. Conclusion standardized Ginkgo Bilobate Extract can be effectively used on the treatment of peripheral (vestibular vertigo. At the same time, linnitus and nausea can get amelioration.The total effective rate of treatment is 77.4% ,among which significant effective rate is 44.8% .

Abstract:Schematic representation of the use of gastrodin in the treatment of CNS related disorders. Central nervous system (CNS)‐related diseases have a high mortality rate, are a serious threat to physical and mental health, and have always been an important area of research. Gastrodin, the main active metabolite of Gastrodia elata Blume, used in Chinese medicine and food, has a wide range of pharmacological effects, mostly related to CNS disorders. This review aims to systematically summarize and discuss the effects and underlying mechanisms of gastrodin in the treatment of CNS diseases, and to assess its potential for further development as a lead drug in both biomedicine and traditional Chinese medicine. Studies on the pharmacological effects of gastrodin on the CNS indicate that it may exert anti‐neurodegenerative, cerebrovascular protective, and ameliorative effects on diabetic encephalopathy, perioperative neurocognitive dysfunction, epilepsy, Tourette's syndrome, depression and anxiety, and sleep disorders through various mechanisms. To date, 110 gastrodin products have been approved for clinical use, but further multicenter clinical case–control studies are relatively scarce. Preclinical studies have confirmed that gastrodin can be used to treat CNS‐related disorders. However, important concerns need to be addressed in the context of likely non‐specific, assay interfering effects when gastrodin is studied using in vitro and in silico approaches, calling for a systematic assessment of the evidence to date. High‐quality clinical trials should have priority to evaluate the therapeutic safety and clinical efficacy of gastrodin. Further experimental research using appropriate in vivo models is also needed, focusing on neurodegenerative diseases, cerebral ischemic and hypoxic diseases, brain damage caused by methamphetamine or heavy metals, and epilepsy.
