Abstract:Abstract Background Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) is broadly used in clinical and research settings for assessing the disability level in patients with lumbar radiculopathy but it has not been translated into Urdu language according to the pre-established translation guidelines as well as the validity and reliability of ODI Urdu version has not been tested yet. The aim of this study was to translate ODI in native Urdu language (ODI-U) according to recommended guidelines and to measure its psychometric properties in Urdu speaking patients suffering from lumber radiculopathy. Methods Out of 108 participants, 54 were healthy (who filled ODI-U) and 54 were patients of lumber radiculopathy. The patients were administered through ODI-U, visual analogue scales for disability (VAS disability), pain intensity (VAS pain) and SF-36 at baseline and after 3 days. Reliability was investigated through test-retest method, internal consistency, standard error of measurement (SEM) and smallest detectable change (SDC). ODI-U was assessed for exploratory factor analysis, construct (convergent and discriminative) validity and content validity. Alpha level < 0.05 was considered statistically significant and psychometric standards were evaluated contrary to priori hypothesis. Results ODI-U revealed excellent test-retest reliability for total score (ICC 2,1 = 0.95) and for all item (ICC 2,1 = 0.72–0.98). Cronbach’s alpha of 0.89 showed excellent internal consistency and moderate correlation between ODI-U total score and each item through spearman’s correlation coefficient ( r = 0.51–0.76). One factor structure was created, explaining 52.5% variance. There was no floor and ceiling effect of total ODI-U score. Content validity was assessed through conducting interviews with patients and incorporating expert’s opinions. The discriminative validity was measured by independent sample t-test, where significant difference between healthy and patients ( P < 0.001) was observed. The convergent validity was evaluated through Pearson’s correlation showing moderate positive correlation of ODI-U with VAS pain ( r = 0.49) and VAS disability ( r = 0.51) but moderate negative correlation with all SF-36 domains ( r = − 0.43to − 0.63). Conclusion ODI-U showed adequate psychometric properties. ODI-U was found to be a reliable and a valid tool to measure the level of disability in Urdu-speaking patients with lumber radiculopathy.

Validation of the Chinese version of the Oswestry Disability Index

Abstract:This study aimed to collect evidence on the structural and substantive validity, and test-retest reliability of the Chinese version of the Oswestry Disability Index (CODI). Seventy-nine patients suffering from chronic low back pain were assessed with the CODI. The results of explorative factor analysis primarily suggested a single-factor structure with nine out of 10 items (factor loading = 0.66–0.79). The sex life item was found to load on a different factor. The Cronbach's alpha of all 10 items was 0.81 (p<0.05). When the sex life item was removed from the analysis, the alpha value was increased to 0.89 (p<0.05). The test-retest reliability was estimated based on 56 participants who completed two administrations of CODI in 48 hours. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) computed for the total CODI scores was 0.86 (95% C.I. = 0.81–0.91). The reliability estimated for the item scores using Kappa statistics ranged from a high of k=0.80 for the sitting item to a low of k=0.49 for the traveling item. Kappa statistics were not available for three items. The Chinese version of the Oswestry Disability Index demonstrated satisfactory validity and test-retest reliability, and so could be considered as an appropriate instrument for assessing chronic back pain-related disability in Chinese patients in Hong Kong. Further research should address the cross-cultural and measurement issues in regard to sex life in order to further improve the test content of the instrument.

Responsiveness of Nepali version of Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) on individuals with non-specific low back pain

Abstract:Abstract Background Low back pain (LBP) is a common musculoskeletal problem, associated with disability and high societal costs. The Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) is among the most commonly used patient reported outcome measures to measure disability due to LBP. Evidence supporting the reliability and validity of the Nepali Version of Oswestry Disability Index (NODI) exists, but its responsiveness is yet to be assessed. Objective We aimed to assess the responsiveness of NODI in participants with non-specific low back pain. Methods The study included 102 (Male 41, Female 61) participants with non-specific low back pain, attending the physiotherapy outpatient department of a tertiary care hospital and nearby community. The NODI was administered to the patients at baseline and again 2 weeks later along with a 7-item Nepali Version of Global Rating of Change (GROC-NP). Responsiveness of NODI was assessed by plotting Receivers Operating Characteristics (ROC) curve. Results The area under curve (AUC) of NODI was 0.88. The best cut-off point on the NODI for improvement on the GROC-NP or the minimal clinical important change (MIC) was 4.22 and ranged from 3.11 to 6.34. The sensitivity and specificity was 77.4% and 84.2% respectively. Conclusion NODI is a responsive scale which can discriminate between participants whose level of disability due to LBP is stable or improving. The result for minimal clinically important change, sensitivity and specificity are consistent with other cross culturally adopted versions.
Antibiotic Susceptibility Patterns of Community- and Hospital-acquired Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli in Estonia

Abstract:This study compares the susceptibility patterns of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli isolated from patients with hospital-acquired and outpatient infections. A total of 902 isolates of S. aureus and 1,114 of E. coli were collected in five different Estonian medical centers between January 1997 and November 1997. Strains were grouped into two different categories, depending on whether they had been obtained from inpatients or outpatients. Compared to S. aureus strains isolated from inpatients, the strains from outpatients were significantly more resistant to erythromycin (25.3% vs. 17.9%), tetracycline (33.5% vs. 22.4%) and trimethoprim?sulfamethoxazole (13.9% vs. 7.9%). The overall prevalence of oxacillinresistant S. aureus was 10.4%, with no significant differences noted between isolates recovered from inpatients and outpatients. In the case of E. coli, significantly more isolates from inpatients (42.8%) than from outpatients (34.4%) were ampicillin-resistant. Inpatient isolates of E. coli were also more resistant to cefotaxime (9.3%) and nitrofurantoin (11.2%) than outpatient strains (0% and 3.1%, respectively). Analysis showed remarkable co-resistance among both inpatient and outpatient strains of S. aureus and E. coli. Multiple resistant S. aureus and E. coli strains represented 15.1% and 17.3%, respectively of the organisms examined in this study. With respect to E. coli, significantly more multiresistant isolates were found in inpatient than outpatient isolates (20.4% vs. 8.9%). Our results indicate that the distinction between community-acquired and hospital infections due to S. aureus and E. coli may not be valid in Estonia.

Abstract:PurposeOswestry Disability Index (ODI) was established by Fairbank in 1989 to assess functional disabilities in low back pain (LBP). It was last updated in 2019 as ODI version 2.1b (ODI AU_2.1b). ODI was first translated into Simplified Chinese Oswestry Disability Index (CODI) in 2008 by Lue. The construct validity, internal consistency, level of agreement and the floor and ceiling effects of CODI were found unclear by Yao in 2016. This study will verify how well the adapted Cantonese–Hong Kong Oswestry Disability Index version 2.1b (HKCODI) aligns with ODI AU_2.1b in the Southern Chinese population.MethodsThe translation of ODI AU_2.1b was performed according to guidelines from MAPI Research Trust and American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Psychometric properties of HKCODI were tested statistically by Pearson's correlation, Cronbach's Alpha and Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC).ResultsA total of 200 subjects (109 males, 91 females) aged from 15 to 85 (mean age = 58.91) with LBP scored from 3/10 to 10/10 in the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were recruited in the Occupational Therapy Department of a tertiary referral center. HKCODI demonstrated strong construct validity in comparing with Hong Kong Roland–Morris Disability Questionnaire (HKRMDQ) (r = 0.666, p = 0.000), Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) Physical Composite Summary (− 0.700, p = 0.000) and VAS (0.487, p = 0.000). Excellent internal consistency and test–retest reliability were confirmed with Cronbach's Alpha of 0.997 and ICC of 0.993 at 95% confidence level.ConclusionCross-cultural adaptation of ODI AU_2.1b has been translated and validated as HKCODI and Item-8 (Sex Life) was suggested to skip for patient older than 60. HKCODI is a fully self-administered and highly reliable tool in assessing the functional disability of patients with LBP in the Southern Chinese population.

Abstract:Background and aims: Although Rand Short Form 36-item (SF-36) questionnaire is a frequently used tool for evaluating a patient's quality of life in both clinical and research settings, but its translation into Urdu language and its psychometric properties has not been tested before, in accordance to the pre-established guidelines. This study aimed to translate and assess the psychometric properties of Urdu version of SF-36 (SF-36-U) in lumbar radiculopathy patients. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, one hundred and eight patients of lumbar radiculopathy filled SF-36-U questionnaire, Urdu version of Oswestry Disability Index (ODI-U) and visual analogue scales for pain (VAS pain) at baseline and after 7 days. Two types of reliability i.e. internal consistency and test-retest reliability while three types of validity i.e. face, content, and construct validity were evaluated. Psychometric properties were assessed contrary to the a priori hypothesis and alpha level was kept at < 0.05. Results: SF-36-U presented good to excellent test-retest reliability for all eight domains (ICC2,1 = 0.75-0.92). Internal consistency was also acceptable for all domains (Cronbach's alpha = 0.73-0.90). Face and content validity were found to be good. Pearson correlation revealed moderate to strong correlations of SF-36-U domains with ODI-U (r = 0.43-0.54), VAS pain (r = 0.32-0.49) and each of its own question (r = 0.37-0.88) which shows good construct validity. Conclusion: SF-36-U revealed acceptable psychometric properties and is considered as a reliable and valid questionnaire for assessing the health-related quality of life in Urdu-speaking patients having lumbar radiculopathy.
Reliability and validity of Oswestry Disability Index among patients undergoing lumbar spinal surgery

Abstract:Abstract Background The objective of this study was to explore the internal consistency and factor structure of the Oswestry Disability Index among patients undergoing spinal surgery. The sample consisted of 1,515 patients who underwent lumbar spinal surgery at a university hospital between 2018 and 2021. Methods The patients responded to the Oswestry Disability Index within 2 months before surgery. Cronbach’s alpha was used to assess the internal consistency. The factor structure was evaluated using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. Results The average age of 1,515 patients was 58.5 (SD 15.8) years and 53% were women. The mean ODI score was 43.4% (SD 17.4%). Of the patients, 68% underwent microsurgical excision of the lumbar intervertebral disc displacement or decompression of the lumbar nerve roots. The internal consistency of the Oswestry Disability Index was found to be good, with an alpha of 0.87 (95% CL 0.86 to 0.88). Exploratory factor analysis resulted in unidimensional structure. Item loadings on this retained factor were moderate to substantial for all 10 items. One-factor confirmatory factor analysis model demonstrated an acceptable fit. The correlations between the main factor “disability” and the individual items varied from moderate (0.44) to substantial (0.76). The highest correlations were observed for items “traveling”, “personal care”, and “social life”. The lowest correlations were observed for the item “standing”. Conclusions The Oswestry Disability Index is a unidimensional and internally consistent scale that can be used to assess the severity of disability in patients undergoing lumbar spinal surgery. In the studied population, “traveling,” “social life,” “sex life” and “personal care” were the most important items to define the severity of disability, while “walking” and “standing” were the least important items. The generalizability of the results might be affected by the heterogeneity and modest size of the studied cohort. Trial registration Not applicable.

Abstract:Study Design. The Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) was translated and then adapted and validated. Objective. Translation of the RMDQ into simplified Chinese characters (SCRMDQ), and its cross-cultural adaptation and validation in patients with low back pain with or without radicular leg pain. Summary of Background Data. The RMDQ is used worldwide and versions in traditional Chinese characters are available in Hong Kong and Taiwan. But there is no version in simplified Chinese characters for use in Mainland China. Methods. The original version of the RMDQ was translated and back-translated, and then cross-cultural adaptation of the simplified Chinese version was performed following published guidelines. The SCRMDQ was validated in 150 patients, 30 of whom finished the prefinal SCRMDQ and helped determine the final version. The remaining 120 patients were asked to complete the final SCRMDQ, simplified Chinese Oswestry Disability Index (SCODI), and visual analogue scale. Reliability was assessed with the final version using internal consistency by the Cronbach alpha coefficient and intraclass correlation coefficient; structural validity was evaluated by correspondence analysis. Then comparison of SCRMDQ and SCODI was performed. Results. A total of 116 patients in the final validation study finished the questionnaires completely. Their mean age was 52.17 +/- 11.95 years (range, 22-78 yr) and the mean low back pain duration was 42.04 +/- 60.94 months (range, 2-480 mo). The average time taken was 4.11 +/- 1.48 minutes (range, 2-9 min) on SCRMDQ and 7.37 +/- 3.98 minutes (range, 3-30 min) on SCODI. The mean SCRMDQ, SCODI, and visual analogue scale scores were 14.07 +/- 4.79 (range, 2-24), 23.98 +/- 10.38 (range, 2-47), and 57.17 +/- 20.72 (range, 0-95), respectively. In the final test, the Cronbach a for internal consistency was 0.826 and intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.947; both showed adequate acceptance. Positive and statistically significant correlations were found between SCRMDQ and SCODI (r = 0.791, P < 0.01) and visual analogue scale (r = 0.493, P < 0.01), indicating sufficient structural validation. Most patients preferred SCRMDQ to SCODI, because it was simpler to understand and easier to finish. Conclusion. The SCRMDQ was reliable and valid as a low back pain measurement tool in patients with or without radicular leg pain in Mainland China. The further use and research with the questionnaire were recommended.

Abstract:Study Design. Retrospective cohort Objective. To examine the validity of the ODI in ASD patients treated with surgery. Summary of Background Data. The ODI is a patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) of low back pain and disability. While nearly ubiquitous in adult spinal deformity (ASD) research, the measure has not been validated in this patient population. Methods. A registry of ASD patients was queried for baseline and 1-year PROM data, including the ODI, the SRS-22r, and the Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System – Pain Interference (PI), and -Physical Function(PF) computer adaptive tests (CAT). Internal reliability was assessed with Cronbach’s alpha, where values≥0.7 are considered reliable. Validity was assessed with Spearman correlation coefficients calculated for the ODI against validated PROMIS-Pain Interference and -Physical Function and legacy measures SRS-Pain, SRS-Activity. Responsiveness to change was measured with the adjusted effect size (aES). Results. 325 patients were enrolled, with 208 completing baseline and one-year PROMs. The majority (149, 72%) were female and white (193, 93%), median Charlson Comorbidity Index 0 (IQR 0-2). The majority of cases included sagittal plane deformity (mean T1PA 24.2° (13.9). Cronbach’s alpha showed excellent internal reliability (Baseline=0.89, 1yr=0.90). ODI was valid, with strong correlations between PROMIS-PI, -PF, SRS-Pain, and SRS-Activity at baseline and one-year follow-up. All measures were responsive to change, with the ODI showing greater responsiveness than PROMIS-PI, PROMIS-PF and SRS-Activity. Conclusions. The ODI is a valid measure of disability as measured by pain and function in patients with ASD. It is responsive to change in a manner not different from validated PROMIS-CAT or the SRS-22r legacy measure. It is multidimensional, however, as it assesses both pain and function simultaneously. It does not measure disability related to Self-Image and may not account for all disease-related disability in ASD patients.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Translation and validation of important scales in other languages reduce bias in reporting the functional status of the patient. OBJECTIVE: To translate the Back Pain Functional Scale into Urdu (BPFSu), adapt it for use in other cultures, and evaluate its psychometric properties. METHOD: According to Beaton guidelines, translation and cultural adaption was carried out. On 100 Urdu-literate men and women aged 18–60 years with lower back pain, the final BPFSu was assessed for psychometric qualities. First at baseline and again after 7 days, participants completed the BPFSu, the Functional Rating Index (FRI), and the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS). RESULTS: Internal consistency of the BPFSu was excellent (Cronbach's alpha: 0.937). No floor and ceiling effects were found Excellent test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.882, CI 95%; 0.830–0.919) was achieved. Spearman correlation coefficient showed criterion validity with the NPRS (rho =â⁢ˆ⁢'0.701, p⩽ 0.001) and Pearson correlation coefficient showed construct validity with the FRI (r=â⁢ˆ⁢'0.740, p⩽ 0.001). The minimum detectable changes were 9.96, while the standard error of measurement was 3.6. CONCLUSION: The BPFSu is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing physical function in individuals experiencing low back discomfort.

Abstract:Background Context The Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) is widely utilized as a patient reported outcome (PRO) tool to assess patients presenting with low back pain (LBP) and following thoracolumbar spine surgery. No primary study has calculated the baseline range of ODI values in the diverse American population. Establishing age-adjusted normative values for ODI in the American population is crucial for assessing the utility of treatment strategies. Purpose The purpose of this study is to describe the baseline range of functional low back disability as measured by the ODI in an American population. Study Design/Setting Cross-Sectional Observational Study. Patient Sample A total of 1214 participants were recruited from the United States in January 2024 using a combination of the Connect and PrimePanel platforms by CloudResearch to complete a survey administered on a RedCap online database. The survey consisted of 10 demographic questions and the 10 ODI survey questions. The distribution of the survey was designed to obtain approximately 100 respondents in each of the following age groups: 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80-89. The distribution of the sample was similarly designed to match the US Census racial data with 78.1% White, 13.9% Black, and 7.9% other. Outcome Measures Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). Methods A crowd-sourcing platform called Cloudresearch was used to collect a representative sample of the US population by answering questions of the Oswestry Disability Questionnaire (ODQ), a 10-question survey. Results The final sample size was 797 participants including 386 (48.4%) males and 411 (51.6%) females; 169 participants were excluded that did not complete the survey and an additional 248 were excluded for failing attention check questions. The overall mean ODI score for the combined age groups was 14.35 (95% CI [13.33, 15.37]). The mean ODI scores increased with age, with the highest mean ODI in ages 70-79 at 18.0 (95% CI [14.76, 21.24]). Female participants reported higher mean ODI scores than their male counterparts in the 18-29 age group ( P = .01), 50-59 age group ( P = .01), and 60-69 age group ( P = .02). Additionally, a weak positive correlation was found between Body Mass Index (BMI) and ODI scores (r = 0.22, P < .001). Conclusion Our findings demonstrate a clear trend of increased disability with age. This study describes the baseline range of functional low back pain disability in the US population. By defining these parameters, healthcare professionals can better tailor age and sex-specific interventions to manage disability in the aging U.S. population, ultimately improving patient care and both operative and non-operative treatment plans for LBP-related thoracolumbar pathology.

Abstract:To examine validity, reliability and responsiveness of three commonly used questionnaires for assessing physical function (i.e. Oswestry Disability Questionnaire (ODI), Quebec Back Pain Disability Scale (QBPDS) and Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ)) in older patients undergoing chiropractic care for low back pain (LBP). Head-to-head clinimetric comparison. Patients completed the ODI, QBPDS and RMDQ at baseline and after 2 weeks of treatment. Reliability was evaluated for internal consistency (Cronbach's α), test-retest reliability (interclass correlation coefficient [ICC]), measurement error (standard error of measurement (SEM), and smallest detectable change (SDC). Structural validity was evaluated through unidimensional confirmatory factor analysis, and construct validity was investigated by a priori hypotheses with other measures. Responsiveness was evaluated testing a priori hypotheses using data at baseline and 2-week follow-up. 214 patients (53 % males and 47% females) with a mean age 66.2 (SD 7.8 years) were included, of which 193 patients completed the 2-week follow-up for our responsiveness analysis. The RMDQ, ODI and QBPDS showed sufficient internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.89; 0.86; 0.94 respectively) and test-retest reliability (ICC(2,1) was 0.85; 0.89; 0.84 respectively). The SDC for RMDQ was 6.9, ODI 19.1 and QBPDS 23.6, which are values larger than the Minimal Important Change (MIC). None of the measures met all criteria for sufficient structural validity, but RMDQ and ODI exhibited a partial unidimensional fit. Abstract:Background: Low back pain is a common health problem encountered by various populations among different countries. This prospective study aimed to translate and cross-culturally adapt the Japanese Orthopaedic Association Back Pain Evaluation Questionnaire (JOABPEQ) into Traditional Chinese and to assess its validity, reliability and sensitivity in Chinese patients experiencing low back pain. Methods: Double forward and single back translation of the JOABPEQ was performed with cross-cultural adaptation. By convenience sampling, the final version of the translated JOABPEQ was administered to Chinese patients attending a specialty outpatient clinic with a history of back pain, followed by the traditional Chinese versions of Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and Short Form-12 version 2 (SF-12v2). Construct validity of the domains were assessed using Spearman's correlation test. Internal consistency was assessed by Cronbach's alpha (α). Sensitivity of the adapted JOABPEQ was determined by known group comparisons. Results: A total of 100 patients were recruited. The translated JOABPEQ demonstrated excellent overall internal consistency (α: 0.912); and good internal consistency for the domains of Lumbar Function, Walking Ability, Social Life Function and Mental Health (α: 0.811, 0.808, 0.788, and 0.827 respectively). Scores of all domains of the translated JOABPEQ had significant correlations (p < 0.01) with ODI at all domains, as well as with almost all domains of SF-12v2 (p < 0.01-0.05). The translated JOABPEQ was sensitive in detecting differences in patients with/without a history of previous spine surgery, and also between patients with acute/acute on chronic versus chronic pain in specific domains. Conclusions: The Traditional Chinese version of JOABPEQ has satisfactory psychometric properties in general, including adequate clinical and construct validity, and internal consistency in assessing Southern-Chinese patients with low back pain. It is demonstrated as a sensitive outcome measure. The translated JOABPEQ is verified for its use in the local clinical setting for patient assessment and future research.

Abstract:Background: Low back pain is one of the most common complaints affecting many individuals. The McGill Pain Questionnaire is used in various clinical settings to assess different types of pain and one of the most extensively used outcomes measures for pain in the world. The purpose of this study was to translate and validate the original English version of the SF-MPQ-2 into Urdu (SF-MPQ-2-U). Methods: For this study, Mapi Research Trust protocols were followed for the forward and backward translation. Test-retest reliability was used to assess the reliability. Cronbach's alpha and Omega was used to determine internal consistency. Pearson's correlation was used to evaluate convergent validity. Confirmatory factor analysis was also conducted. Results: The Cronbach's alpha for SF-MPQ-2-U was 0.73 to 0.79, indicating acceptable internal consistency. Omega score for the SF-MPQ-U were 0.918. The ICC varied from 0.799 to 0.878 for domains of SF-MPQ-2-U. The CFA of the SF-MPQ-2-U met model fit indices with GFI and NFI > 0.90. The inter-scale correlation between baseline and re-test data was from 0.63 to 0.71, indicating a positive and strong correlation. The SF-MPQ-2-U and ODI-U had a baseline correlation of 0.547. The correlation of SF-MPQ-2-U & VAS at baseline data was 0.558. Pearson's correlation between subscales was r = 0.253 with p 0.01, which was statistically significant. Conclusion: The SF-MPQ-2-U is considered to have good convergent validity at inter scale and between two scale levels. Reliability was checked by test-retest reliability, Internal consistency was checked using Cronbach's alpha and Omega that showed good internal consistency for measuring different types of pain in patients with low back pain who speak Urdu. To make the questionnaire more valid and reliable, it is recommended for the researchers to do in-depth research on larger sample size.
Cross-cultural adaptation and validation of a self-administered Urdu version of the child oral impacts on daily performances index among 11-12-year-old children in Lahore, Pakistan

Abstract:The Child Oral Impacts on Daily Performances (Child-OIDP) index was developed to assess children's oral health-related quality of life. This study aimed to culturally adapt the self-administered Child-OIDP index into Urdu, evaluate its psychometric properties, and provide an initial estimate of oral impacts among 11-12-year-old children in Lahore, Pakistan. The translation of the Child-OIDP index from English to Urdu was performed, and the content and face validity of the initial Urdu version were evaluated by experts and 11-12-year-old children, respectively. The psychometric properties of the Urdu Child-OIDP were assessed by administering the index to 264 children aged 11-12 from five schools in the Lahore district. Psychometric properties were evaluated using criterion and construct validity, internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and global self-rated oral items, followed by an oral examination. The standardized Cronbach's alpha was 0.77, and the weighted Kappa was 0.94 (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.98). The index exhibited significant associations with subjective outcome measures, dental problem history, and dental caries status (p = 0.001). Children reporting poor oral health, lower satisfaction with oral health, and experiencing oral impacts demonstrated higher Child-OIDP scores. Additionally, children with dental caries and perceived treatment needs exhibited higher Child-OIDP scores, indicating poorer Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL). The prevalence of oral impacts was 88.3% (mean score = 17.8, standard deviation (SD) =14.7). Eating performance was the most affected while speaking was the performance least affected, while toothache and sensitive teeth were identified as the two most common causes of oral impacts. Toothache was the primary cause of condition-specific impacts, responsible for the majority of oral impacts. This study demonstrates that the self-administered Urdu Child-OIDP index is a valid and reliable tool for assessing OHRQoL among 11-12-year-old children in Lahore, Pakistan.

Abstract:Low back pain (LBP) is one of the most common disabling conditions. This disability significantly reduces the quality of life of LBP patients. This article reviews the most common and well-known measures currently used to assess disability in LBP, such as the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), the Roland–Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ), the Quebec Back Pain Disability Scale (QBPDS), the Low Back Outcome Score (LBOS), and the Low Back Pain Rating Scale (LBPRS). To reliably evaluate questionnaires and other measurement methods, there are parameters known as psychometric properties, which consist primarily of the validity, reliability and sensitivity. These methods are based on a multi-item questionnaire assessing physical functioning that is completed independently by the patient. They can be used to assess the disability associated with many conditions. All are specific to LBP, and their psychometric properties have been tested on a relevant population of patients with the condition and published in peer-reviewed publications.

Abstract:The objective of the study was to cross-culturally adapt the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) into a regional Indian language (Tamil) and to test the reliability and linguistic validity of the index in Tamil-speaking Indian participants. Cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric testing of SPADI was undertaken at the Outpatient Physiotherapy Department of the Sri Ramachandra University Hospital in Chennai, India. The Test-retest reliability was quantified using the interclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Cronbach alpha was calculated to assess internal consistency of the Tamil questionnaire. The construct validity was assessed using Spearman rank correlation coefficients. The reliability of the total Tamil SPADI and its subsets (Intraclass correlation coefficient >0.90) were found to be higher than that of the English SPADI and the German SPADI in this population. The internal consistency of the Tamil SPADI (Cronbach's alpha >0.95) was slightly higher than the English and the German versions. Thus, the cross-culturally adapted version of the English SPADI into a regional Indian language (Tamil) is easy to use and is a reliable and valid measure of shoulder pain and disability in the Tamil speaking population.

Abstract:PurposeThe admission due to low back pain (LBP) became prevalent cause of international economic losses. Since LBP patients with disability are often subject to inpatient care, it is important to determine the appropriate time of discharge. The purpose of this study is to set the cut-off value of appropriate Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) at the time of discharge.MethodsOf 1,394 LBP patients admitted in hospital specialized in spinal disease, 774 eligible patients with disability were included in this study. And several clinical variables including numerical rating score, ODI, satisfaction level were observed during the hospital stay. We considered satisfaction level as an important factor for discharge, categorized patients into satisfied group and dissatisfied group. Through the statistical analysis, appropriate factor for determining dischargeable patients satisfied with their current condition and its cut-off value of ODI were found. And proper predictors for the cut-off value were extracted statistically and logically from a pool of several clinical indexes.ResultsThe ODI at the time of discharge was most accurate in determining dischargeable patients. The cut-off value of ODI was 30. Predictors were ODI questions 4 and 6.ConclusionWe set the cut-off value of dischargeable ODI for LBP inpatient with disability and found its predictor.
