Abstract:Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally, with 9.7 million fatalities in 2022. While routine screenings are vital for early detection, healthcare disparities persist, highlighting the need for equitable solutions. Recent advancements in cancer biomarker identification, particularly microRNAs (miRs), have improved early detection. MiR-21 is notably overexpressed in various cancers and can be a valuable diagnostic tool. Traditional detection methods, though accurate, are costly and complex, limiting their use in resource-limited settings. Paper-based electrochemical biosensors offer a promising alternative, providing cost-effective, sensitive, and rapid diagnostics suitable for point-of-care use. This study introduces an innovative electrochemical paper-based biosensor that leverages gold inkjet printing for the quantitative detection of miR-21. The biosensor, aimed at developing cost-effective point-of-care devices for low-resource settings, uses thiolated self-assembled monolayers to immobilize single-stranded DNA-21 (ssDNA-21) on electrodeposited gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on the printed gold surface, facilitating specific miR-21 capture. The hybridization of ssDNA-21 with miR-21 increases the anionic barrier density, impeding electron transfer from the redox probe and resulting in a current suppression that correlates with miR-21 concentration. The biosensor exhibited a linear detection range from 1 fM to 1 nM miR-21 with a sensitivity of 7.69 fM μA−1 cm2 and a rapid response time (15 min). With a low detection limit of 0.35 fM miR-21 in serum, the biosensor also demonstrates excellent selectivity against interferent species. This study introduces an electrochemical paper-based biosensor that uses gold inkjet printing to precisely detect miR-21, a key biomarker overexpressed in various cancers. This innovative device highlights the potential for cost-effective, accessible cancer diagnostics in underserved areas.

Abstract:AIM to explore Hong Kong Chinese women's experiences and perceptions of elective caesarean section performed under regional anaesthesia. DESIGN an exploratory study using a qualitative approach. Data were collected by tape-recorded in-depth interviews two to five days after caesarean section. PARTICIPANTS a purposive sample of 18 Hong Kong Chinese women having an uncomplicated, elective caesarean section under successful regional anaesthesia. SETTING a post-caesarean ward of a University affiliated District General Hospital in Hong Kong. KEY FINDINGS the three categories relating to the overall theme of Consciousness during Surgery were: Interacting with others, Experience of birthing, and Awareness of the environment. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE the experiences of women, related to the general theme and categories cited above, affected their feelings of security and fulfillment. On the whole, women were satisfied with the regional anaesthesia, preferring to remain conscious throughout the surgery. They appreciated being able to interact with others and listening to music, but needed information regarding what was happening. Many were distressed by the sight and noise of surgical instruments, the narrowness of the operating table, the operating theatre lamps and the coldness of the theatre. Recommendations for practice are made relating to these issues.
A highly sensitive and robust electrochemical biosensor for microRNA detection based on PNA-DNA hetero-three-way junction formation and target-recycling catalytic hairpin assembly amplification

Abstract:Robust and sensitive methods for the detection of microRNAs (miRNAs) are crucial in the clinical diagnosis of cancers. In this study, a novel electrochemical biosensor with high sensitivity for miRNA-21 detection is developed, which relies on the formation of a peptide nucleic acid (PNA)-DNA hetero-three-way junction (H3WJ) and target-recycling catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA) amplification. The electroneutral PNA probes are initially immobilized onto a gold electrode to construct the sensor. Upon introduction of miRNA-21, target-recycling CHA is initiated, resulting in abundant double-stranded CHA products. Subsequently, association between the PNA probes and these products leads to the formation of PNA-DNA H3WJs. Consequently, the electrode surface is densely populated with numerous electroactive Ferrocene (Fc) groups, resulting in a significantly amplified current response for highly sensitive detection of miRNA-21 at concentrations as low as 0.15 fM. This approach demonstrates remarkable specificity towards target miRNAs and can be utilized for quantitative monitoring of miRNA-21 expression in human cancer cells. More importantly, the sensor exhibits exceptional stability and shows a significant reduction in background noise during miRNA detection, making this method a highly promising sensing platform for monitoring various miRNA biomarkers to facilitate the diagnosis of diverse cancers.

Abstract:Background: Cancer is known as one of the main non-communicable diseases and the leading cause of death in the new era. Early diagnosis of cancer requires the identification of special biomarkers. Currently, microRNAs (miRNAs) have attracted the attention of researchers as useful biomarkers for cancer early detection. Hence, various methods have been recently developed for detecting and monitoring miRNAs. Among all miRNAs, detection of miRNA-21 (miR-21) is important because it is abnormally overexpressed in most cancers. Here, a new biosensor based on silver nanoclusters (AgNCs) is introduced for detecting miR-21. Results: As a fluorescent probe, a rationally designed hairpin sequence containing a poly-cytosine motif was used to facilitate the formation of AgNCs. A guanine-rich sequence was also employed to enhance the sensing signal. It was found that in the absence of miR-21, adding a guanine-rich sequence to the detecting probe caused only a slight change in the fluorescence emission intensity of AgNCs. While in the presence of miR-21, the emission signal enhanced. A direct correlation was observed between the increase in the fluorescence of AgNCs and the concentration of miR-21. The performance of the proposed biosensor was characterized thoroughly and confirmed. The biosensor detected miR-21 in an applicable linear range from 9 pM to 1.55 nM (LOD: 2 pM). Significance: The designed biosensor was successfully applied for detecting miR-21 in human plasma samples and also in human normal and lung and ovarian cancer cells. This biosensing strategy can be used as a model for detecting other miRNAs. The designed nanobiosensor can measure miR-21 without using any enzymes, with fewer experimental steps, and at a low cost compared to the reported biosensors in this field.
An Ultrasensitive miRNA-Based Genosensor for Detection of MicroRNA 21 in Gastric Cancer Cells Based on Functional Signal Amplifier and Synthesized Perovskite-Graphene Oxide and AuNPs

Abstract:In the present research work, the state-of-art label-free electrochemical genosensing platform was developed based on the hybridization process in the presence of [Fe(CN)6]3-/4- as an efficient redox probe for sensitive recognition of the miRNA-21 in human gastric cell lines samples. To attain this aim, perovskite nanosheets were initially synthesized. Afterward, the obtained compound was combined with the graphene oxide resulting in an effective electrochemical modifier, which was dropped on the surface of the Au electrode. Then, AuNPs (Gold Nano Particles) have been electrochemically-immobilized on perovskite-graphene oxide/Au-modified electrode surface through the chronoamperometry (CA) technique. Finally, a self-assembling monolayer reaction of ss-capture RNA ensued by the thiol group at the end of the probe with AuNPs on the modified electrode surface. miRNA-21 has been cast on the Au electrode surface to apply the hybridization process. To find out the effectiveness of the synthesized modifier agent, the electrochemical behavior of the modified electrode has been analyzed through DPV (differential pulse voltammetry) and CV (cyclic voltammetry) techniques. The prepared biomarker-detection bioassay offers high sensitivity and specificity, good performance, and appropriate precision and accuracy for the highly-sensitive determination of miRNA-21. Different characterization methods have been used, such as XRD, Raman, EDS, and FE-SEM, for morphological characterization and investigation of particle size. Based on optimal conditions, the limit of detection and quantification have been acquired at 2.94 fM and 8.75 fM, respectively. Furthermore, it was possible to achieve a wide linear range which is between 10-14 and 10-7 for miRNA-21. Moreover, the selectivity of the proposed biosensing assay was investigated through its potential in the detection of one, two, and three-base mismatched sequences. Moreover, it was possible to investigate the repeatability and reproducibility of the related bio-assay. To evaluate the hybridization process, it is important that the planned biomarker detection bio-assay could be directly re-used and re-generated.

Abstract:The development of a convenient and efficient assay using miRNA-21 as a lung cancer marker is of great importance for the early prevention of cancer. Herein, an electrochemical biosensor for the detection of miRNA-21 was successfully fabricated under blue light excitation using click chemistry and photocatalytic atom transfer radical polymerization (photo-ATRP). By using hairpin DNA as a recognition probe, the electrochemical sensor deposits numerous electroactive monomers (ferrocenylmethyl methacrylate) on the electrode surface under the reaction of photocatalyst (fluorescein) and pentamethyldiethylenetriamine, thereby achieving signal amplification. This biosensor is sensitive, precise and selective for miRNA-21, and is highly specific for RNAs with different base mismatches. Under optimal conditions, the biosensor showed a linear relationship in the range of 10 fM ∼1 nM (R 2 = 0.995), with a detection limit of 1.35 fM. Furthermore, the biosensor exhibits anti-interference performance when analyzing RNAs in serum samples. The biosensor is based on green chemistry and has the advantages of low cost, specificity and anti-interference ability, providing economic benefits while achieving detection objectives, which makes it highly promising for the analysis of complex samples.

Abstract:In this study we developed a uniform, large-area, layered graphene composite of graphene oxide/graphene (GO/G) for the detection of circulating miRNA-21, a reliable biomarker for early cancer diagnosis. We prepared this layered composite of GO/G through low-damage plasma treatment of bilayer G. The top layer of G was oxidized (i.e., atomic layer oxidation) to form a GO layer, which acted as the bio-receptor, while retaining the properties of the bottom layer of G, which acted as an electrical response medium. With this structure, we fabricated a simple chemiresistive biosensor that could detect miRNA-21. The electrical resistance of the sensor varied linearly (R2 = 0.986) with respect to concentrations of the target miRNA-21 in the range from 10 pM to 100 nM in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS); the limit of detection was 14.6 pM. Hall measurements revealed that the mobility and concentration of the hole carriers both decreased upon increasing the target concentration, leading to the measured increase in resistivity of our chemiresistive biosensor. Furthermore, the sensor could discriminate the complementary target miRNA-21 from its single- and four-base-mismatched counterparts and another non-complementary miRNA. The ability to detect miRNA-21 in human serum albumin and bovine serum albumin was almost identical to that in PBS.

Abstract:In this work, a biosensor for miRNA detection is described. The sensor is easy to prepare and effective to detect with the combination of the electrically neutral PNA probe and in situ synthesis of palladium nanoparticles. The advantages of high sensitivity, specificity and strong anti‐interference ability make it have great application potential in tumor screening and diagnosis. The detection of trace microRNAs (miRNA) is crucial for early cancer diagnosis. Here, a sensitive biosensor for miRNA directive detection was put forward, which was based on RNA‐templated palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) signal amplification strategy. Uncharged peptide nucleic acids (PNA) probe was used to capture the target miRNA(T‐RNA) specifically. Subsequently, a large amount of palladium ions absorbed on T‐RNA strands via electrostatic forces, and the palladium nanocluster is rapidly generated based on chemical reduction. Obviously, RNA metallization method enables biosensor to be carried out efficiently at room temperature also simplifies the preparation and detection of the sensor. Under optimal conditions, this method can analyze the concentration of miRNA in the range of 10 fM to 1 nM, and the detection limit is 3.33 fM. At the same time, this method has strong anti‐interference ability in serum samples, which provides a broad prospect for the early screening and diagnosis of cancer.

Novel surfactant-free electro-nanofabricating strategy for highly sensitive and selective colorectal cancer MicroRNA analysis

Abstract:A label-free nanostructured electrochemical biosensor utilizing graphene quantum dot (GQD) decorated with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), known as Au-GQD-NS, is presented to colorectal cancer (CRC) biomarker early detection, micro RNA-223 (miR-223). Thiolated DNA probes (Cap-223) are immobilized onto a fabricated and highly conductive nanostructure platform, which improves accessibility and miR-223 recognition. To analyze the nanostructured surface, various sophisticated techniques such as FESEM, EDAX, AFM, and electrochemical approaches are employed. Electrochemical approaches including DPV, EIS, and CV are applied to investigate the electroactivity of substrate, immobilization of Cap-223 on Au-GQD-NPs and subsequent hybridization with the miR-223. The electro-nanofabricated biosensor showcases a wide linear detection range (zepto M to nano M) with an impressively suitable LOD (0.024 atto M). The biosensor selectivity is demonstrated through discrimination studies between target and mismatched miRNA sequences (miR-9 and miR-21). This biosensor also exhibits significant potential for quantitative evaluation of miR-223 in real samples, enabling its applications in point-of-care (POC) detection of CRC. In addition, the Au-GQD-NS substrate is nano-fabricated in absent of surfactants and stabilizers, providing secure anchors for immobilization of cap-223. The well-established strategies for cap-223 immobilization and hybridization with miR, combined with superior electron exchange rate compared to uncovered FTO, upgrade the biosensor's execution. Significantly, the biosensor demonstrates efficient miR-223 detection in human serum. Overall, this nano-fabricated biosensor shows great promise for miR-based early detection of CRC, and therefore, offering great sensitivity, selectivity, and favorable hydrophilicity for translational medicine investigation and clinical applications.

Abstract:Specific and sensitive microRNAs (miRNAs) detection is essential to early cancer diagnosis. The development of these technologies including functional nuclease-mediated target amplification and DNA nanotechnology possesses tremendous potential for the high-performance detection of miRNAs in the accurate diagnosis of disease. In this study, we have established an ultrasensitive electrochemical biosensor by combining nicking endonuclease-assisted primer exchange reaction (PER) cascade amplification with a DNA nanosphere (DNS)-mediated electrochemical signal-enhanced system for the detection of miRNA-21 (miR-21). The cascade amplification is initiated by a nicking endonuclease that can cleave specific DNA substrates and highly amplify translation of the target to single-stranded DNA fragments (sDNA). Then, the PER cascade is powered by strand-displacing polymerase and generates a large amount of nascent single stranded connector DNA (cDNA) via sDNA triggering of the dumbbell probe (DP), thus achieving the cascade amplification of the target. Finally, the DNS loaded with plenty of electroactive substances can be captured on the electrode via cDNA for further enhancing the electrochemical signal and highly sensitive detection of miR-21. The proposed electrochemical biosensor exhibits a wide detection range of 1 aM to 0.1 nM and a low detection limit of 0.58 aM. The excellent selectivity allows the biosensor to discriminate miR-21 from other miRNAs, even the one base-mismatched sequence. Moreover, the practicability of the biosensor is investigated by analyzing miR-21 in human serum and cancer cell lysate. Therefore, our proposed nicking endonuclease-assisted PER cascade amplification strategy provides a powerful platform for the early detection of miRNA-related disease and molecular diagnosis.
A simultaneous strategy with multiple-signal amplification and self-calibration for ultrasensitive assay of miRNA-21 based on 3D MNPs-IL-rGO-AuNPs

Abstract:MicroRNA-21 (miRNA-21) is a significant biomarker for the development and progression of diverse cancers but is present in relatively low concentrations. Detecting such low-abundance molecules accurately can be challenging, especially in early-stage cancers where the concentration may be even lower. Herein, a self-calibration biosensing platform based on 3D novel MNPs-IL-rGO-AuNPs nanocomposites was successfully established for the ultrasensitive detection of miRNA-21. Duplex-specific nuclease (DSN) was introduced to recognize perfectly matched duplexes and trigger target recycling, enhancing the specificity and sensitivity of the biosensor. DSN-assisted target recycling, in conjunction with magnetic separation enrichment and high-performance MNPs-IL-rGO-AuNPs, collectively formed a multiple-signal amplification strategy. The obtained biosensor could output dual signals in both electrochemical and fluorescent modes, enabling self-correcting detection to enhance the accuracy. The obtained dual-mode biosensor prepared exhibited a wide detection range from 5 fM to 100 nM with a remarkably low LOD of 1.601 fM. It accomplished the sensitive evaluation of miRNA-21 in total RNA extracted from various human cancer cell lines and normal cell lines. Additionally, the greatly satisfactory outcomes in the analysis of human serum samples suggested that the proposed biosensor was a powerful screening candidate in early clinical diagnosis of cancer.

Paper based immunosensing of ovarian cancer tumor protein CA 125 using novel nano-ink: A new platform for efficient diagnosis of cancer and biomedical analysis using microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (μPAD)

Abstract:Ovarian cancer is the first and most important cause of malignancy death in women. Mucin 16 or MUC16 protein also known as carcinoma antigen 125 (CA 125) is the most commonly used glycoprotein for early stage diagnosis of ovarian cancer. In this work, a novel paper-based bio-device through hand writing of Ag/RGO (silver nanoparticles/reduced graphene oxide) nano-ink on the flexible paper substrate using pen-on-paper technology was developed. The prepared interface was used to the recognition of CA 125 protein in human biofluid. For this purpose, Ag/rGO nano-ink was synthesized by deposition of Ag nanoparticles onto graphene oxide sheets and the reduction of graphene oxide to rGO simultaneously. Conductivity and resistance of conductive lines were studied after drawing on photographic paper. Subsequently, to prepare a new and unique immuno-device, paper electrode modified by cysteamine caped gold nanoparticles (CysA/Au NPs) using electrochemical techniques. CysA is bonded by sulfur atoms with Au (CysA/Au NPs), and from the amine group with hydroxyl and carboxyl groups of Ag/RGO nano-ink deposited on the surface of paper-based electrodes (CysA/Au NPs/Ag-rGO). Then, anti-CA 125 antibody was immobilized on the electrode surface through Au NPs and CA 125 positively charged amine groups interaction. Atomic force microscopy, Transmission electron microscopy, Field emission scanning electron microscopy, and dynamic light scattering, were performed to identify the engineered immunosensor. Using chronoamperometry technique and under the optimized conditions, the low limit of quantitation (LLOQ) for the proposed immunoassay was recorded as 0.78 U/ml, which this evaluation was performed at highly linear range of 0.78-400 U/ml. The high sensitivity of the electrochemical immunosensor device is indicative of the ability of this immuno-device to detect early stages ovarian cancer.

Abstract:The advancement of the dual-modal photoelectrochemical (PEC) and photo-fuel-cell-driven self-powered biosensor (PFC-SPB) with the aid of near-infrared light (NIR) irradiation can present a robust sensing strategy for the feasible, sensitive detection of cancer biomarkers in living cancer cells. In this work, a novel NIR-assisted dual-modal PEC and PFC-SPB is proposed for the sensitive inspection of miRNA-21 based on a 2D/2D p-n heterojunction, which is prepared by the in-situ growth of zinc indium sulfide nanosheets (ZnIn 2 S 4 NSs) over the 2D zinc porphyrin-based metal–organic frameworks using meso -tetra (4-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin as ligand (denoted as ZnIn 2 S 4 @Zn-TCPP). Benefiting the integration of the features of ZnIn 2 S 4 and Zn-TCPP, the developed p-n heterojunction demonstrates rich element vacancies, regulated NIR absorption, and improved charge separation efficiency of the photogenerated electron–hole pairs. Thus, the ZnIn 2 S 4 @Zn-TCPP photoelectrode affords the boosted photoelectric conversion efficiency and large output voltage as well as large amounts of anchored complementary DNA strand due to the comprehensive interaction. The constructed dual-modal PEC and PFC-SPB, respectively, exhibit an ultralow limit of detection (LOD) of 0.43 and 0.71 fM toward miRNA-21 within a range of 1 fM to 1 nM, along with the other superior sensing abilities. The PFC-driven self-powered biosensor also shows a great potential in the selective detection of miRNA-21 contained in living cancer cells. The present work provides an NIR-assisted dual-modal biosensing strategy for the efficient analysis of cancer biomarkers in vitro.

Abstract:The detection of microRNA is widely used in the early diagnosis of diseases such as cancer and acute kidney injury. In this work, we successfully constructed a label-free ultrasensitive biosensor for the instant detection of miRNA-21. The MXene-reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-Au was synthesized as electrode materials to immobilize DNA probes and MXene-AuPd was used as signal amplification materials. The highly sensitive biosensor had a wide range of linearity from 1 fM to 1 nM, and the limit of detection of as-fabricated biosensor was lower as 0.42 fM under optimized conditions. The biosensor also showed high specificity, outstanding stability and desirable reproducibility, which could also realize the accurate detection of miRNA-21 in real urine samples of both mouse and human with high sensitivity. The label-free electrochemical biosensor based on MXene nanocomposites is a promising candidate for potential applications on the early diagnosis of cancers and acute kidney injury.

Abstract:MicroRNAs involved in tumor-related tissues at abnormal expression level present tremendous potential in the early diagnosis of cancers. However, their intrinsic shortcomings, for instance, low abundance and high sequence homology, make it challengeable to quantify them with high sensitivity and selectivity. Herein, a highly sensitive platform with great specificity was developed for microRNA-21 based on the produced-I2 triggered chemical etching of gold nanorods to a smaller size, resulting in a significant blue shift and a great intensity decrease in the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) scattering. The synergism of strand displacement and enzymatic reaction enabled the proposed strategy with a high sensitivity and selectivity toward microRNA-21 in a dynamic range from 0.1 to 10,000 pM and a low limit of detection of 71.22 fM (3σ/k) by dark-field microscope. Additionally, the remarkable discrimination of single nucleotide difference suggested the superior selectivity towards microRNA-21, which presented a satisfactory recovery in human serum samples. The proposed plasmon platform could also serve as a universal and sensitive detection of cancer biomarkers, presenting the amusing application prospects in the early diagnosis of various cancers by adapting the corresponding nucleic acid sequences.

Abstract:The latest in a series of speculations concerning the origins of HIV a Rolling Stone magazine article claiming that AIDS may have been introduced through the polio vaccines has touched off angry responses from vaccine experts including several who claim to have been misrepresented by the article. In an article entitled "The Origin of AIDS" found in the current issue of Rolling Stone free-lance writer Tom Curtis hypothesizes that AIDS first entered humans in Africa as a contaminant of an oral polio vaccine widely administered in the late 1950s a vaccine formulated at Philadelphias Wistar Institute by Hilary Koprowski. Curtis speculates that a still-undiscovered simian form of HIV may have contaminated Koprowskis polio vaccine developed from monkey kidney cell cultures. Some researchers say that the articles claim is not so far-fetched considering that simian viruses were found to contaminate some early polio vaccines. Most researchers however dismiss the theory as far too speculative arguing that no supporting evidence exists. Both the Wistar and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) have come out against the theory. Koprowski maintains that the existing data refutes Curtiss hypothesis since in preparing the vaccine he used wild macaques from the Philippines and India and no wild macaques have ever tested positive for a lentivirus. In response to Koprowskis claim Curtis quoted the chief of CDCs retrovirus branch Thomas Folks who offered a scenario in which the monkey kidney cells might have become infected. Folks however has angrily accuses Curtis of selective editing. Others interviewed by Curtis have also claimed to have been misrepresented. Despite the rejections the Wistar Institute has announced that it will form a committee to evaluate the theory.

Abstract:Early detection and treatment are effective strategies to reduce cancer mortality. Self-powered biosensors based on enzyme biofuel cells are rapid, high-sensitivity, and low-cost analysis methods with various detection modes, demonstrating great advantages as detection platforms for liquid biopsy. Aiming to further improve the detection sensitivity of self-powered biosensor platforms, this study adopted the Toehold-mediated hybridization chain reaction, which improved the detection sensitivity while accurately identifying common cancer markers. Experimental data showed that the open-circuit voltage of the well-designed biosensor platform had a good linear relationship with the logarithm of miRNA-21 concentration in the range of 0.0001–100 pmol/L with a low limit of detection of 5 amol/L (S/N=3), preliminarily confirming the quantitative analysis capability of the platform. Therefore, the designed biosensor platform can facilitate clinical detection and improve early cancer detection accuracy.

Abstract:Breast cancer has been ranked the first malignant tumor in women, and with the incidence of it increasing all over the world, early screening can effectively reduce mortality and improve the cure rate. MiRNAs, as potential biomarkers, play an important role in the early diagnosis and prognosis monitoring of breast cancer. However, since miRNAs, with low concentration, are the matrix in serum or plasma, accurately detecting miRNAs without a label in serum or plasma is challenging. Herein, we proposed a biosensor combination of nanomaterial for reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and field effect transistors (FETs). The biosensor used a few layers of RGO by the chemical reduction method as a semiconductor to detect the miRNA21 in human plasma with high sensitivity (LOD: 1 fM). It can not only distinguish between perfectly matched, single-base mismatched, and completely mismatched sequences, but it can also correctly respond to clinically complex matrix samples without the process of miRNA21 extraction, amplification, and labeling. The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was 0.9253, which means that the biosensor can distinguish between the breast cancer patients and healthy controls and can assist in clinical diagnosis and provide new ideas for the development of clinical testing.

Abstract:Paper based biosensor devices have the benefit of easy-use, low-cost and environmental friendly for point-of-care diagnostic application. In this research, we report a novel form of paper based biosensor with hierarchical assembled nanomaterials and MOF enhanced bio-probes for the simultaneous detection of microRNA-141 (miR-141) and microRNA-21 (miR-21) which have the potential for early cancer detection. The combination of multi-dimensional nanomaterial allows low impedance and high sensing area on typical poorly defined paper substrate. MOF conjugated bio-probe, methylene blue (MB) and ferrocene (Fc) with distinguishable electrochemical signal, further contributed to the high selectivity and sensitivity. Simultaneously detection of miR-141 and miR-21 with a detection limit of 0.1 fM was demonstrated under optimal conditions. All these features enable accurately target detection in serum samples. Therefore, this strategy is of promising as an inexpensive, easy access diagnosis platform for cancers by means of simultaneously detection of a variety of miRNA biomarkers.
