Abstract:This study aimed to screen an effective flavonoid with promising whitening and antioxidant capacities, and design flavonoid-loaded niosomes to improve its solubility, stability, and penetration. In vitro anti-tyrosinase and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging experiments were conducted to investigate the whitening and antioxidant capacities of several flavonoids, including quercetin, morin, festin, myricetin, rutin, and breviscapine. The conductivity, viscosity, and particle size of Span60-RH40-based formulation of nonionic surfactant vesicles (niosomes) with different mass ratios were studied to determine the most appropriate formulation. Drug-loaded niosomes were characterized for size, zeta potential, morphology, and entrapment efficiency. The photostability, solubility, release behavior, ex vivo drug penetration, and skin retention were also studied. The results showed that quercetin has considerable whitening and antioxidant capacities and Span60-RH40 at a mass ratio of 9:11 forms spherical or oval niosomes of 97.6 ± 3.1 nm with a zeta potential range of 31.1 ± 0.9 mV, and drug entrapment efficiency as high as 87.3 ± 1.6%. Niosomes remarkably improved the solubility and photostability of quercetin. Furthermore, compared to quercetin solution, quercetin-niosomes had the advantages of sustained release and improved transdermal penetration, with skin retention 2.95 times higher than quercetin solution.
The Potential of Caffeic Acid Lipid Nanoparticulate Systems for Skin Application: In Vitro Assays to Assess Delivery and Antioxidant Effect

Abstract:The object of this study is a comparison between solid lipid nanoparticles and ethosomes for caffeic acid delivery through the skin. Caffeic acid is a potent antioxidant molecule whose cutaneous administration is hampered by its low solubility and scarce stability. In order to improve its therapeutic potential, caffeic acid has been encapsulated within solid lipid nanoparticles and ethosomes. The effect of lipid matrix has been evaluated on the morphology and size distribution of solid lipid nanoparticles and ethosomes loaded with caffeic acid. Particularly, morphology has been investigated by cryogenic transmission electron microscopy and small angle X-ray scattering, while mean diameters have been evaluated by photon correlation spectroscopy. The antioxidant power has been evaluated by the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl methodology. The influence of the type of nanoparticulate system on caffeic acid diffusion has been evaluated by Franz cells associated to the nylon membrane, while to evaluate caffeic acid permeation through the skin, an amperometric study has been conducted, which was based on a porcine skin-covered oxygen electrode. This apparatus allows measuring the O2 concentration changes in the membrane induced by polyphenols and H2O2 reaction in the skin. The antioxidative reactions in the skin induced by caffeic acid administered by solid lipid nanoparticles or ethosomes have been evaluated. Franz cell results indicated that caffeic acid diffusion from ethosomes was 18-fold slower with respect to solid lipid nanoparticles. The amperometric method evidenced the transdermal delivery effect of ethosome, indicating an intense antioxidant activity of caffeic acid and a very low response in the case of SLN. Finally, an irritation patch test conducted on 20 human volunteers demonstrated that both ethosomes and solid lipid nanoparticles can be safely applied on the skin.

Abstract:Oxidative stress, triggered by UV radiation, is one of the major causes of free radical-associated disorders, such as skin cancer. The application of natural compounds (NCs) with antioxidant effects can attenuate free radicals’ accumulation and, therefore, provide a strategy for skin care and cancer prevention. In this work, three natural compounds, naringenin, nordihydroguaiaretic acid (NDGA), and kaempferol, were encapsulated into nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) aiming for the development of a formulation for cutaneous application with antioxidant properties. For the experiments, different formulation parameters were evaluated to optimize the NLCs that showed a diameter around 200 nm, which is an adequate particle size for incorporation in cosmetics. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis confirmed the NLCs’ typical spherical morphology. Encapsulation efficiency (EE) and loading capacity (LC) values revealed an effective production process, with EEs over 90% and LCs near the maximum value. The developed NLCs revealed a prolonged in vitro release of the natural compounds. The NLCs were stable under storage conditions, maintaining their psychochemical characteristics for 30 days. Additionally, they did not show any physical instability in accelerated stability studies, which also suggests long-term stability. Finally, the NCs antioxidant activity was evaluated. Interestingly, the NDGA and kaempferol mixture provided an antioxidant synergic effect. The NLC formulations’ cytotoxicity was tested in vitro in immortalized human keratinocytes (HaCaT). In addition, putative antioxidant effects of the developed NLC formulations against tert-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BHP)-induced oxidative stress were studied, and the NDGA-loaded NLC was revealed to be the one with the most protective effect. Therefore, we concluded that the naringenin, NDGA, and kaempferol incorporation into NLCs constitutes a promising strategy to increase their bioavailability and delivery to the skin.

Abstract:Photoageing resulting from long term exposure of the skin to UV light can be minimized by scavenging the reactive photochemical intermediates with antioxidants. For effective photoprotection, the antioxidant must overcome the barrier properties of the skin and reach the target site in significant amounts. The present study aims to improve the skin penetration of caffeic acid, a very effective free radical scavenger, by encapsulating in liposomes. Caffeic acid loaded liposomes prepared using the reverse phase evaporation technique showed 70% encapsulation efficiency and size around 100 nm with zeta potential of −55 mV. In vitro diffusion through a dialysis membrane enabled 70% release of encapsulated caffeic acid within 7 h, whereas 95% of free caffeic acid diffused within 4 h in PBS solution (pH 7.4). Liposomal caffeic acid permeation through pig skin epidermis in a Franz cell apparatus was 45 % during 7 h. In contrast, free caffeic acid was almost nonpermeable (<5%) to pig skin during this time. The DPPH assay indicated that skin penetration did not destroy the antioxidant activity of liposomal caffeic acid or free caffeic acid. In conclusion, we confirm that liposomal caffeic acid may be successfully employed as an effective photoprotective agent against UV mediated skin damage.
Nanotoxicity and Dermal Application of Nanostructured Lipid Carrier Loaded with Hesperidin from Orange Residue

Abstract:Abstract Flavonoids are a class of polyphenolic compounds that can be extracted from citrus fruits. Because of their features, they have been considered as new bullets in cancer therapy. Flavonoids present anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties and some studies are pointing that their higher intake involves lower risks of cancer. The nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) are drug delivery systems composed from a mixture of solid and liquid lipids that increase physical stability and promote the sustained release of the drug. So, the main aim of this research was to combine the potential of the flavonoid as a natural anti-oxidant compound with the nanostructured lipid carriers to form an efficient system for flavonoid delivery into the cells. These NLC were prepared through high pressure homogenization technique and were evaluated in function of several standard properties. The samples exhibited good stability through time and temperature, with sizes of around 215 nm and zeta potentials of -35 mV during a period of 105 days. The encapsulation and the loading efficiency were respectively 96% and 2.25% up to 105 days of storage. In vitro release assays showed a burst process for NLC-L pointing to their shell structure with flavonoid situated in the contour of the particles. The cell viability tests showed that flavonoid, either free or loaded into NLC, did not present in vitro toxicity to the melanoma cells tested: A375, CHL01 and SKMEL147 through 3-(4,5-dimethyiltiazol-2yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT), neutral red and crystal violet assays. Hesperidin at 45 μmol L −1 was able to reduce significantly the radical forming up to 92.58 ± 0.82% in DPPH assay. On the other hand, the produced NLC were applied in a skin lotion formulation, which showed a good stability and opened up a new application for the produced nanoparticles as in anti-aging and moisturizing cosmetics. Finally, the in vitro cytotoxicity tests were carried out using several human culture cells. The flavonoid loaded and empty nanocarriers have been used to treat the cells. All data suggested that, at the level studied, non-significant toxicities on cells were observed.

Abstract:Nanovesicles produced with lipids and polymers are promising devices for drug and bioactive delivery and are of great interest in pharmaceutical applications. These nanovesicles can be engineered for improvement in bioavailability, patient compliance or to provide modified release or enhanced delivery. However, their applicability strongly depends on the safety and low immunogenicity of the components. Despite this, the use of unsaturated lipids in nanovesicles, which degrade following oxidation processes during storage and especially during the proper routes of administration in the human body, may yield toxic degradation products. In this study, we used a biopolymer (chitosan) labeled with flavonoid (catechin) as a component over a lipid bilayer for micro- and nanovesicles and characterized the structure of these vesicles in oxidation media. The purpose of this was to evaluate the in situ effect of the antioxidant in three different vesicular systems of medium, low and high membrane curvature. Liposomes and giant vesicles were produced with the phospholipids DOPC and POPC, and crystalline cubic phase with monoolein/DOPC. Concentrations of chitosan–catechin (CHCa) were included in all the vesicles and they were challenged in oxidant media. The cytotoxicity analysis using the MTT assay (3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide) revealed that concentrations of CHCa below 6.67 μM are non-toxic to HeLa cells. The size and zeta potential of the liposomes evidenced the degradation of their structures, which was minimized by CHCa. Similarly, the membrane of the giant vesicle, which rapidly deteriorated in oxidative solution, was protected in the presence of CHCa. The production of a lipid/CHCa composite cubic phase revealed a specific cubic topology in small-angle X-ray scattering, which was preserved in strong oxidative media. This study demonstrates the specific physicochemical characteristics introduced in the vesicular systems related to the antioxidant CHCa biopolymer, representing a platform for the improvement of composite nanovesicle applicability.

Abstract:The peel from Citrus-sinensis L. is a medicinally significant food waste, and its extract (O-Ext) could be significant against oxidative stresses and skin aging, However, the penetration barriers, instability in formulation, undefined toxicities, and enzymatic activities make the O-Ext difficult to formulate and commercialize. The goal of this study was to evaluate O-Ext against oxidative stress, prepare O-Ext-loaded nano-lipid carriers (O-NLCs), and load them into topical O/W-emulsion (O-NLC-E) to improve O-Ext permeation and its in vivo antiaging effects. TPC, TFC, DPPH activity, and mineral/metal contents of O-Ext were determined via atomic-absorption spectroscopy. For bioactive compounds profiling, GC-MS analysis was carried out. O-NLCs were prepared and tested for physicochemical attributes, while HaCaT and fibroblast cells were used to study permeation and cytotoxicity. The kinetic characteristics of ex vivo permeation through rat skin were established, following the Higuchi model. Following written consent, safety investigations were conducted on human volunteers for three months, where optimized O-NLC-E and B-NLC-E were regularly applied on cheeks. Non-invasive procedures were used to assess the volunteer’s skin erythema, TEWL, sebum level, melanin, hydration, pH, elasticity, and pore sizes after specified intervals. The results demonstrated that applying O-NLC-E formulation to the skin of volunteers directed significant antiaging benefits. The study offers nanotechnology-based sustainability approach against skin ageing.
Topical Delivery of Niacinamide to Skin Using Hybrid Nanogels Enhances Photoprotection Effect

Abstract:Niacinamide (NIA) has been widely used in halting the features of ageing by acting as an antioxidant and preventing dehydration. NIA’s physicochemical properties suggest difficulties in surpassing the barrier imposed by the stratum corneum layer to reach the target in the skin. To improve cutaneous delivery of NIA, a hybrid nanogel was designed using carrageenan and polyvinylpyrrolidone polymers combined with jojoba oil as a permeation enhancer. Three different types of transethosomes were prepared by the thin-film hydration method, made distinct by the presence of either an edge activator or a permeation enhancer, to allow for a controlled delivery of NIA. Formulations were characterized by measurements of size, polydispersity index, zeta potential, encapsulation efficiency, and loading capacity, and by evaluating their chemical interactions and morphology. Skin permeation assays were performed using Franz diffusion cells. The hybrid hydrogels exhibited robust, porous, and highly aligned macrostructures, and when present, jojoba oil changed their morphology. Skin permeation studies with transethosomes-loaded hydrogels showed that nanogels per se exhibit a more controlled and enhanced permeation, in particular when jojoba oil was present in the transethosomes. These promising nanogels protected the human keratinocytes from UV radiation, and thus can be added to sunscreens or after-sun lotions to improve skin protection.

Abstract:Tea catechins are a group of flavonoids that show many bioactivities. Catechins have been extensively reported as a potential treatment for skin disorders, including skin cancers, acne, photoaging, cutaneous wounds, scars, alopecia, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and microbial infection. In particular, there has been an increasing interest in the discovery of cosmetic applications using catechins as the active ingredient because of their antioxidant and anti-aging activities. However, active molecules with limited lipophilicity have difficulty penetrating the skin barrier, resulting in low bioavailability. Nevertheless, topical application is a convenient method for delivering catechins into the skin. Nanomedicine offers an opportunity to improve the delivery efficiency of tea catechins and related compounds. The advantages of catechin-loaded nanocarriers for topical application include high catechin loading efficiency, sustained or prolonged release, increased catechin stability, improved bioavailability, and enhanced accumulation or targeting to the nidus. Further, various types of nanoparticles, including liposomes, niosomes, micelles, lipid-based nanoparticles, polymeric nanoparticles, liquid crystalline nanoparticles, and nanocrystals, have been employed for topical catechin delivery. These nanoparticles can improve catechin permeation via close skin contact, increased skin hydration, skin structure disorganization, and follicular uptake. In this review, we describe the catechin skin delivery approaches based on nanomedicine for treating skin disorders. We also provide an in-depth description of how nanoparticles effectively improve the skin absorption of tea catechins and related compounds, such as caffeine. Furthermore, we summarize the possible future applications and the limitations of nanocarriers for topical delivery at the end of this review article.
Optimization of Green Tea Catechin Loaded Niosomes by Thin Film Hydration Technique using Food Grade Surfactants

Abstract:Aims: Catechins, belonging to polyphenols, have received a great attention because of their health benefits. But, they are met with limited efficacy in food applications due to several reasons such as poor aqueous solubility, poor stability, and low bioavailability in GI conditions. Study Design: Nanoencapsulation in the form of niosomes is expected to provide efficient delivery of these bioactive components. Duration of Study: The study was conducted in Dairy Chemistry Division, ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute under National Agricultural Science Fund (NASF) project between June 2018 and March 2021. Methodology: The processing parameters for preparation of catechin loaded niosomes were optimized. Different parameters such as type and concentration of non-ionic surfactant (NIS), stabilizer and ratio of Nonionic surfactants and stabilizers were optimized to prepare catechin loaded niosomes by Thin Film Hydration Technique using Food Grade Surfactants. Results: Among all the optimized formulations, the ones prepared with Tween 60 and lauryl alcohol (1.5:1) and Tween 80 and lauryl alcohol (1:0.5) at 250 μM concentration by thin film hydration and high shear homogenization at a speed of 15000 rpm for 15 min, showed desired particle size of 58.48 and 60.69 nm and entrapment efficiency of 85.82 and 85.69%, respectively. They also exhibited uniform size distribution and stability as measured by polydispersity index and zeta potential. SEM micrographs also confirmed the formation of catechin loaded niosomes. Conclusion: It is concluded that 250 μM concentration of NIS, T60 or T80 and lauryl alcohol as stabilizer at a ratio of 1.5:1 and 1:0.5, respectively by thin film hydration and high shear homogenization at 15,000 rpm for 15 min was the optimized formulation for preparation of catechin loaded niosomes.

Abstract:Non-Ionic surfactant based vesicles, also known as niosomes, have attracted much attention in pharmaceutical fields due to their excellent behavior in encapsulating both hydrophilic and hydrophobic agents. In recent years, it has been discovered that these vesicles can improve the bioavailability of drugs, and may function as a new strategy for delivering several typical of therapeutic agents, such as chemical drugs, protein drugs and gene materials with low toxicity and desired targeting efficiency. Compared with liposomes, niosomes are much more stable during the formulation process and storage. The required pharmacokinetic properties can be achieved by optimizing components or by surface modification. This novel delivery system is also easy to prepare and scale up with low production costs. In this paper, we summarize the structure, components, formulation methods, quality control of niosome and its applications in chemical drugs, protein drugs and gene delivery.

Abstract:Harnessing the power of antioxidants, a groundbreaking non‐invasive transdermal delivery platform is introduced that efficiently targets skin disorders. By utilizing chitosan grafted with salcaprozate sodium (SCS) to form SCS‐catalase nanocomplexes, the innovative cream penetrates deeply to combat oxidative stress. This transformative approach not only protects against UVB‐induced damage but also promises long‐term skin care with remarkable biocompatibility, offering a promising solution for various inflammatory skin conditions. Oxidative stress induced by excess reactive oxygen species (ROS) plays a significant role in the onset and progression of numerous skin disorders, necessitating effective antioxidant defenses to prevent and repair oxidative damage. However, existing systemic antioxidant therapies for skin diseases often fall short in efficiently delivering antioxidants to the diseased lesions. In this study, a novel non‐invasive transdermal delivery platform utilizing chitosan grafted with salcaprozate sodium (SCS) is designed for highly efficient delivery of biomolecular enzymes, such as catalase (CAT). After self‐assembling with catalase, the obtained SCS‐CAT nanocomplexes if topically applied in a cream demonstrate highly efficient skin penetration and accumulation. Owing to the ability of CAT to effectively scavenge ROS, topically applied SCS‐CAT nanocomplexes enable remarkable repair and protection effects against ultraviolet radiation B (UVB)‐induced skin photodamages by inhibiting cell apoptosis and inflammation. Moreover, such SCS‐CAT delivery platform holds promise for long‐term skin care applications due to its great biocompatibility. This research presents a simple yet transformative platform for the intradermal delivery of biological enzymes, presenting a promising avenue for treating various inflammatory skin disorders.

Antioxidant Nanoplatforms for Dermal Delivery: Melatonin

Abstract:Background: Melatonin is emerging as a promising therapeutic agent, mainly due to its role as antioxidant. Substantial evidences show that melatonin is potentially effective in a variety of diseases as cancer, inflammation and neurodegenerative diseases. The excellent antioxidant capacity with pharmacokinetics characteristics and the emerging search for new pharmaceutical nanotechnology based systems, make it particularly attractive to elaborate nanoplatforms based on melatonin for biomedical or cosmetic dermal applications. Different nanosystems for dermal delivery have been investigated. Objective: This review focuses on nanocarrier production strategies, dermal melatonin application and delivery advances in vivo and in vitro. Equally, future perspectives of this assisted melatonin delivery have also been discussed. Method: In the current review, we have revised relevant articles of the available literature using the major scientific databases. Results: One hundred and thirteen papers were included in the review, the majority of which represent latest researches in nanosized platforms for the dermal delivery of melatonin including liposomes, ethosomes, niosomes, polymeric nanoparticles, solid lipid nanoparticles and cyclodextrins. Furthermore, relevant papers reporting in vitro and in vivo application studies of these nano-based melatonin platforms were also discussed. Conclusion: The use of nanoplatforms for the dermal melatonin delivery as antioxidant agent could improve the efficacy of conventional melatonin administration due to the preservation of the drug from premature oxidation and the enhancement of drug permeation through the skin providing greater exposure times.
Skin delivery of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) and hyaluronic acid loaded nano-transfersomes for antioxidant and anti-aging effects in UV radiation induced skin damage

Abstract:The present work attempts to develop and statistically optimize transfersomes containing EGCG and hyaluronic acid to synergize the UV radiation-protective ability of both compounds, along with imparting antioxidant and anti-aging effects. Transfersomes were prepared by thin film hydration technique, using soy phosphatidylcholine and sodium cholate, combined with high-pressure homogenization. They were characterized with respect to size, polydispersity index, zeta potential, morphology, entrapment efficiency, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), in vitro antioxidant activity and ex vivo skin permeation studies. Cell viability, lipid peroxidation, intracellular ROS levels and expression of MMPs (2 and 9) were determined in human keratinocyte cell lines (HaCaT). The composition of the transfersomes was statistically optimized by Design of Experiments using Box-Behnken design with four factors at three levels. The optimized transfersome formulation showed vesicle size, polydispersity index and zeta potential of 101.2 ± 6.0 nm, 0.245 ± 0.069 and -44.8 ± 5.24 mV, respectively. FTIR and DSC showed no interaction between EGCG and the selected excipients. XRD results revealed no form conversion of EGCG in its transfersomal form. The optimized transfersomes were found to increase the cell viability and reduce the lipid peroxidation, intracellular ROS and expression of MMPs in HaCaT cells. The optimized transfersomal formulation of EGCG and HA exhibited considerably higher skin permeation and deposition of EGCG than that observed with plain EGCG. The results underline the potential application of the developed transfersomes in sunscreen cream/lotions for improvement of UV radiation-protection along with deriving antioxidant and anti-aging effects.

Abstract:Biocompatible fatty acids are natural biological materials which exhibit widespread biomedical applications. Nevertheless, their application in vesicle forms is hampered by strong pH sensitivity and poor stability to changes in ionic strength, temperature, and storage. In the investigation, the incorporation of alkyl glycoside (APG), a surfactant with non-ionic properties, into the oleic acid (OA) vesicles was undertaken as a means to address this issue. The newly formed OA/APG composite vesicles form in a pH range of between 5.4 and 7.4, which is close to the pH range of the physiological environment. The stability studies results showed that the OA/APG composite vesicles have excellent stability in terms of ionic strengths, temperature and storage. The formation of NAR-loaded OA/APG composite vesicles was demonstrated through FT-IR, DSC and XRD. In vitro topical delivery and skin retention studies confirmed that the composite vesicles improve skin permeation rate and have better skin permeation behavior. Antioxidant activity experiments confirmed that the antioxidant effect composite vesicles were significantly increased as compared to the naringenin (NAR). This finding has theoretical implications for the use of drug-loaded fatty acid vesicles in cosmetics industries and topical delivery systems.

Abstract:Abstract: Niosomes are newly developed, self-assembling sac-like transporters that deliver medication at a specific site in a focused manner, increasing availability in the body and prolonging healing effects. Niosome discovery has increased drugs’ therapeutic effectiveness while also reducing adverse effects. This article aims to concentrate on the increase in the worldwide utilization of niosomal formulation. This overview presents a thorough perspective of niosomal investigation up until now, encompassing categories and production techniques, their significance in pharmaceutical transportation, and cosmetic use. The thorough literature review revealed that extensive attention has been given to developing nanocarriers for drug delivery as they hold immense endeavor to attain targeted delivery to the affected area simultaneously shielding the adjacent healthy tissue. Many reviews and research papers have been published that demonstrate the interest of scientists in niosomes. Phytoconstituents, which possess antioxidant, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, wound healing, anti-acne, and skin whitening properties, are also encapsulated into niosome. Their flexibility allows for the incorporation of various therapeutic agents, including small molecules, proteins, and peptides making them adaptable for different types of drugs. Niosomes can be modified with ligands, enhancing their targeting capabilities. A flexible drug delivery mechanism provided by non-ionic vesicles, which are self-assembling vesicular nano-carriers created from hydrating non-ionic surfactant, cholesterol, or amphiphilic compounds along comprehensive applications such as transdermal and brain-targeted delivery.

Dermal targeting of Centella asiatica extract using hyaluronic acid surface modified niosomes

Abstract:The work aimed to develop Centella asiatica extract-loaded niosomes (CAE-Nio) and surface modified niosomes by hyaluronic acid (CAE-Nio-HA) to enhance transdermal penetration. Niosome formulations were prepared by film hydration method using Tween 60 and Span 60 as nonionic surfactants, cholesterol and various CAE contents. Various HA concentrations were investigated to obtain optimized CAE-Nio enhancing further skin penetration. Results showed that niosomes prepared from Tween 60 yielded suitable CAE encapsulated niosomes with mean particle size and zeta-potential of 155 nm and -15 mV, respectively. The niosomes exhibited high encapsulation efficiency (%EE) and drug loading capacity (%DL) of 71-77% and 3-7%, respectively. Incorporating HA to niosome decreased %DL and caused larger particle size and increased zeta-potential in a dose dependent manner while %EE remained unaffected. The sustained-release behaviour of CAE from all niosomes was under a diffusion controlled mechanism. Asiaticoside, a relatively polar compound from CAE-Nio-HA could penetrate through the stratum corneum and dermis in a larger amount than from CAE-Nio and CAE solution. CAE-Nio-HA formulations showed good stability under low temperature (4 °C and 25 °C) for periods longer than 4 months. In conclusion, the developed Nio-HA is a promising delivery system for asiaticoside to enhanced dermal absorption, permeation and accumulation in viable epidermis and dermis layers. This system can also be applied to other hydrophilic natural active compounds.

Abstract:Linear growth is a multifactorial trait that is influenced and regulated by a combination of environmental and internal factors. Among the intrinsic determinants of final body height, genetic factors have become more and more prominent, and the list of genes involved in growth-related processes has been extended accordingly. One of the most exciting additions to this list is represented by the discovery of the pseudoautosomal gene SHOX. Originally described as a gene responsible for idiopathic short stature, it has become clear that SHOX mutations can also cause mesomelic short stature and Madelung deformity in Léri-Weill syndrome. In addition, recent studies implicate SHOX haploinsufficiency in a variety of somatic Turner syndrome stigmata.

Abstract:<span>Among the most used carriers for pharmaceutical and cosmetic purposes, niosomes are biocompatible and versatile systems, capable of enhance the therapeutic effects of encapsulated drugs for topical and transdermal treatments. Overall, the nanometer size and flexibility of these systems can improve the skin penetration and permeation of several drugs, but the suspension obtained after their preparation does not present the required rheological properties for topical use. Polymeric hydrogels can be employed, since they are compatible, and ease made, maintaining the integrity of nanostructures, besides promoting suitable formulation viscosity and spreadability. Therefore, this association can affect topical formulation properties, depending on the polymer type, purity, cross-links density, and by the electrostatic interactions between polymer and vesicle surface charges.<b>GRAPHICAL </b></span>
