Abstract:Abstract Background: Interstitial lung disease (ILD) and its rapid progression (RP) were main contributors to unfavorable outcome of idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) patients. This study aimed at identifying the clinical value of PET/CT scan in IIM-ILD patients as well as constructing a predicting model for RP-ILD.Methods: Adult IIM-ILD patients who were hospitalized at four divisions of the First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine (FAHZJU) from Jannuary 1st 2017 to December 31st 2020 were reviewed. PET/CT scan as well as other factors of patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were collected and analyzed.Results: A total of 61 IIM-ILD patients were finally enrolled into this study. Twenty-one patients (34.4%) developed RP-ILD and 24 patients (39.3%) died in follow-up. After false discovery rate (FDR) correction, percent-predicted diﬀusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide (DLCO%, P=0.014), bilateral lung mean standard uptake value (SUVmean, P=0.014) and abnormal mediastinal lymph node (P=0.045) were significantly different in comparison between RP-ILD and non-RP-ILD groups. A “DLM” model was hereby established by including the above three values to predict RP-ILD with a cutoff value of ≥2 and an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.905. Higher bilateral lung SUVmean (P=0.019) and spleen SUVmean (P=0.011) were observed in IIM-ILD patients who died within three months, and a moderate correlation was recognized between the two values. Conclusions: Elevated bilateral lung SUVmean and abnormal mediastinal lymph node were associated with RP-ILD in IIM-ILD patients. The “DLM” model was valuable in predicting RP-ILD and demanded further evaluation.
Predictors for acute exacerbation of interstitial pneumonia following lung cancer surgery: a multicenter study

Abstract:Background: Acute exacerbation (AE) of interstitial lung disease (ILD) is one of the most serious complications during perioperative period of lung cancer resection. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between preoperative 2- deoxy-2-[18F]fluoro-D-glucose (18F-FDG) PET/CT findings and AE in lung cancer patients with ILD. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the data of 210 patients who underwent lung resection for non-small cell lung cancer. Relationships between clinical data and PET images and AE were evaluated. The patients were divided into an AE(+) and an AE(-) group for multivariate logistic regression analysis. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was conducted and the area under curve (AUC) was used to assess the predictive values. Results: Among 210 patients, 48 (22.8%) were diagnosed with ILD based on chest CT. Among them, 9 patients (18.75%) developed AE after lung resection and were defined as AE(+) group. The course of ILD was longer in AE(+) group compared to AE(-) group. More patients in AE(+) group had a history of AE and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) than in AE(-) group. The maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) of the noncancerous interstitial pneumonia (IP) area and cancers in AE(+) group was significantly higher compared to AE(-) group. Univariate logistic regression analysis showed that AE, COPD, SUVmax of the noncancerous IP area, SUVmax of cancer, surgical method were significantly correlated with AE. The course of ILD[OR(95%CI) 2.919; P = 0.032], SUVmax of the noncancerous IP area[OR(95%CI) 7.630;P = 0.012] and D-Dimer level[OR(95%CI) 38.39;P = 0.041] were identified as independent predictors for AE in patients with ILD after lung cancer surgery. When the three indicators were combined, we found significantly better predictive performance for postoperative AE than that of SUVmax of the noncancerous IP area alone [0.963 (95% CI 0.914-1.00); sensitivity, 100%, specificity 87.2%, P < 0.001 vs. 0.875 (95% CI 0.789 ~ 0.960); sensitivity, 88.9%, specificity, 76.9%, P = 0.001; difference in AUC = 0.088, Z = 1.987, P = 0.04]. Conclusion: The combination of the course of ILD, SUVmax of the noncancerous IP area and D-Dimer levels has high predictive value for the occurrence of AE in patients with concomitant interstitial lesions.
Preoperative prognostic prediction for invasive pulmonary adenocarcinoma: Impact of 18 F-FDG PET/CT semi-quantitative parameters associated with new histological subtype classification

Abstract:AIM To explore the preoperative predictive value of 18 F-FDG PET/CT for poor prognostic histologic subtypes of invasive pulmonary adenocarcinoma (IPA) under new classification. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study included 316 patients. Histopathology of IPA were evaluated by recording the percentage of each histologic component. PET/CT parameters were compared among IPAs with different risks of recurrence. Optimum cutoff values of PET/CT parameters were calculated using ROC curve analysis. Overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were calculated using Kaplan–Meier method, survival differences between groups were tested using log-rank test. Multivariate analysis for survival was performed using the Cox regression model. RESULTS Patients were divided into low (LRR), intermediate (IRR), and modified high (mHRR) risk of recurrence group incorporating typical (HRR-T) and nontypical (HRR-NT) subgroups based on histologic patterns. There were significant differences in SUV max , SUV mean , SUV min , SUV SD , TLG, and tumor size among three groups. HRR-NT had lower SUV max , SUV mean , SUV min , SUV SD and TLG than HRR-T subgroup, and higher SUV max , SUV mean , SUV min , SUV SD , MTV, TLG and tumor size than IRR group. ROC curve analysis showed that SUV max had highest AUC (0.815) in distinguish LRR and IRR. TLG had highest AUC (0.741) in distinguish IRR and mHRR. Multivariable analysis showed that tumor size and SUV max were independent predictors of DFS and OS. CONCLUSION High risk of recurrence of IPA exhibited higher 18 F-FDG uptake and tumor size. Tumor size and SUV max could be used as preoperative surrogates for the IASLC grading system. 18 F-FDG PET/CT can improve the preoperative prognostic prediction for IPA patients.

Clinical impact of SUVmax of interstitial lesions in lung cancer patients with interstitial lung disease who underwent pulmonary resection

Abstract:Background: Acute exacerbation of interstitial lung disease often causes fatal respiratory deterioration in lung cancer patients with interstitial lung disease. Here, we examined whether the maximum standardized uptake value of a contralateral interstitial lesion was a predictive factor of acute exacerbation of interstitial lung disease within 30 days postoperatively in lung cancer patients with interstitial lung disease who underwent pulmonary resection.Methods: Overall, 117 consecutive lung cancer patients with interstitial lung disease who underwent pulmonary resection between August 2010 and April 2019 at the Kumamoto University Hospital were retrospectively analysed for the association between the maximum standardized uptake value of the contralateral interstitial lesions and interstitial lung disease parameters.Results: The median maximum standardized uptake value of contralateral interstitial lesions was 1.61, which was regarded as the cut-off point predictive of the incidence of acute exacerbation of interstitial lung disease. Eight patients developed postoperative acute exacerbation of interstitial lung disease. There was no significant association between the maximum standardized uptake value of the contralateral interstitial lesions and postoperative acute exacerbation of interstitial lung disease. The maximum standardized uptake value was weakly but significantly associated with lactate dehydrogenase levels (r=0.211, P=0.022), Krebs von den Lungen-6 (r=0.208, P=0.028), and % diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (r=-0.290, P=0.002). Moreover, seven patients developed acute exacerbation of the interstitial lung disease during the clinical course after 30 postoperative days, and the incidence rate of acute exacerbation of interstitial lung disease was significantly higher in the high maximum standardized uptake value group (≥1.61) than in the low maximum standardised uptake value group (<1.61) (12.7% vs. 0%, P=0.002, Gray's test).Conclusions: Maximum standardized uptake value was not a predictor of postoperative acute exacerbation of interstitial lung disease in lung cancer patients with interstitial lung disease after pulmonary resection, but could be a predictive tool of an association with interstitial lung disease severity and activity markers.

[The Prognostic Impact of Preoperative PET-CT on Postoperative Recurrence for Completely Resected Stage I Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To analyze the prognostic impact of preoperative (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET-CT on postoperative recurrence in patients with completely resected stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). METHODS:The clinic data of 182 patients with stage I NSCLC who underwent (18)F-FDG PET-CT scan before surgical resection between June 2005 and June 2012 were reviewed retrospectively. There were 121 male and 61 female patients, with an average age of 68 years (range from 34 to 85 years). The pathological stage was I A in 98 patients, I B in 84 patients; the histology were adenocarcinoma in 137 patients, squamous cell carcinoma in 35 patients, and others in 10 patients. Clinicopathological factors including gender, age, smoking history, SUV(max), surgical procedure, pathological features and adjuvant chemotherapy were evaluated to identify the independent factors predicting postoperative recurrences by univariate and multivariate analysis. The survivals were calculated by the Kaplan-Meier method and differences in variables were analyzed by the Log-rank test. RESULTS:The postoperative recurrence rate was 15.9%. The univariate analysis identified that the SUV(max) (t=3.278, P<0.001), p-stage (χ² =5.204, P=0.026), blood vessel invasion (χ² =5.333, P=0.027) and visceral pleural invasion (χ² =7.697, P=0.009) are factors for predicting postoperative recurrence. Only SUV(max) was found to be a significant independent factor according to multivariate analysis (HR=1.068, 95%CI: 1.015 to 1.123, P=0.001). The study population was stratified into three groups by SUV(max), patients with SUV(max) > 5.0 had significantly higher risk of recurrence (23.9%) than those with 2.5 < SUV(max) ≤ 5.0 (15.0%) and SUV(max) ≤ 2.5 (7.3%) (P=0.043); patients with SUV(max) ≤ 2.5 had significantly better 5-year recurrence-free survival rate (90.9%) than those with 2.5 < SUV(max) ≤ 5.0 (82.7%) and SUV(max) ≤ 2.5 (71.0%) (P=0.030). There was a trend toward higher probability of blood vessel invasion (χ² =20.267, P < 0.001), visceral pleural invasion (χ² =6.185, P=0.045) and pathological stage I B (χ² =13.589, P=0.001) with increased SUV(max). CONCLUSIONS:Preoperative SUV(max) of primary tumor is a predictor of postoperative relapse for stage I NSCLC after surgical resection. Therefore, it can contribute to the risk stratification for patients with the same pathological stage and selecting the optimal postoperative follow-up and therapeutic strategy.
[Isolated cystic lymphangioma in the mediastinum].

Abstract:Cystic lymphangioma localized only in the mediastinum is a rare type of primitive tumour (less than 1% of the mediastinum primitive tumours). These three new observations concern lymphangiomas with an anterior position ; therir anatomical connections with the lymphatic system are difficult to show. Treated by surgery these benign tumours have a good prognosis and only a few cases of local recurrences have been reported.
18F-FDG-PET/CT Uptake by Noncancerous Lung as a Predictor of Interstitial Lung Disease Induced by Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors

Abstract:Rationale and objectives: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have improved lung cancer prognosis; however, ICI-related interstitial lung disease (ILD) is fatal and difficult to predict. Herein, we hypothesized that pre-existing lung inflammation on radiological imaging can be a potential risk factor for ILD onset. Therefore, we investigated the association between high uptake in noncancerous lung (NCL) on 18F- FDG-PET/CT and ICI-ILD in lung cancer. Methods: Patients with primary lung cancer who underwent FDG-PET/CT within three months prior to ICI therapy were retrospectively included. Artificial intelligence was utilized for extracting the NCL regions (background lung) from the lung contralateral to the primary tumor. FDG uptake by the NCL was assessed via the SUVmax (NCL-SUVmax), SUVmean (NCL-SUVmean), and total glycolytic activity (NCL-TGA)defined as NCL-SUVmean×NCL volume [mL]. NCL-SUVmean and NCL-TGA were calculated using the following four SUV thresholds: 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0. Results: Of the 165 patients, 28 (17.0%) developed ILD. Univariate analysis showed that high values of NCL-SUVmax, NCL-SUVmean2.0 (SUV threshold=2.0), and NCL-TGA1.0 (SUV threshold=1.0) were significantly associated with ILD onset (all p = 0.003). Multivariate analysis adjusted for age, tumor FDG uptake, and pre-existing interstitial lung abnormalities revealed that a high NCL-TGA1.0 (≥149.45) was independently associated with ILD onset (odds ratio, 6.588; p = 0.002). Two-year cumulative incidence of ILD was significantly higher in the high NCL-TGA1.0 group than in the low group (58.4% vs. 14.4%; p < 0.001). Conclusion: High uptake of NCL on FDG-PET/CT is correlated with ICI-ILD development, which could serve as a risk stratification tool before ICI therapy in primary lung cancer.

Methods A total of 104 patients with stage I-IIIB NSCLC were retrospectively derived from National Cancer Center of China, of which 36 cases received immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) monotherapy (I-M) and 68 cases with ICI combination therapy (I-C). 18 F-FDG PET-CT scans were performed at baseline and after neoadjuvant therapy (NAT). Receiver‐operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were conducted and area under ROC curve (AUC) was calculated for biomarkers including maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax), inflammatory biomarkers, tumor mutation burden (TMB), PD-L1 tumor proportion score (TPS) and iRECIST. Results Fifty-four resected NSCLC tumors achieved MPR (51.9%, 54/104). In both neoadjuvant I-M and I-C cohorts, post-NAT SUVmax and the percentage changes of SUVmax (ΔSUVmax%) were significantly lower in the patients with MPR versus non-MPR ( p < 0.01), and were also negatively correlated with the degree of pathological regression ( p < 0.01). The AUC of ΔSUVmax% for predicting MPR was respectively 1.00 (95% CI: 1.00–1.00) in neoadjuvant I-M cohort and 0.94 (95% CI: 0.86–1.00) in I-C cohort. Baseline SUVmax had a statistical prediction value for MPR only in I-M cohort, with an AUC up to 0.76 at the threshold of 17.0. ΔSUVmax% showed an obvious advantage in MPR prediction over inflammatory biomarkers, TMB, PD-L1 TPS and iRECIST. Conclusion 18 F-FDG uptake can predict MPR in NSCLC patients with neoadjuvant immunotherapy.

Clinical factors associated with high PD‐L1 expression in patients with early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer

Abstract:This study identified smoking history, high SUVmax on 18F‐FDG PET/CT, and elevated plasma fibrinogen as independent preoperative predictors of high PD‐L1 expression in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. A prediction score based on these three factors may help identify NSCLC patients who are likely to benefit from neoadjuvant ICI treatment, where biomarker analysis could not be performed on preoperative biopsy specimens. Background Superior outcomes have been obtained for neoadjuvant treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) plus chemotherapy over neoadjuvant chemotherapy alone, especially in patients with high programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD‐L1) expression. However, it is not always possible to obtain sufficient tumor specimens for biomarker testing before surgery. In this study, we explored clinical factors that can predict high PD‐L1 expression. Methods We retrospectively enrolled 340 lung cancer patients who received pulmonary resection between 2014 and 2023 and who had PD‐L1 expression data. Chi‐squared tests and logistic regression analyses were used to identify clinical factors associated with high PD‐L1 status. Results Univariable and multivariable analyses revealed that smoking, high maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) of 18F‐fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission computed tomography (18F‐FDG PET/CT), and high plasma fibrinogen are independent predictors of high PD‐L1 expression. A predictive score for high PD‐L1 expression (ranging from 0 to 3) was developed based on these parameters. Notably, only 5% of patients with a score of 0 exhibited high PD‐L1 expression, whereas this proportion increased to 53% for patients with a score of 3. Conclusion These results showed that plasma fibrinogen, smoking history, and SUVmax are predictors of high PD‐L1 expression, providing a basis for identifying patients expected to benefit from neoadjuvant ICI treatment.

The role of 18F-FDG PET/CT in predicting the pathological response to neoadjuvant PD-1 blockade in combination with chemotherapy for resectable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

Abstract:Purpose: Accurate assessment of residual disease of tumor and lymph nodes after neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy is crucial in the active surveillance for patients with pathological complete response (pCR) and the optimal extent of lymphadenectomy for patients with non-pCR. This post hoc analysis aimed to evaluate the performance of 18F-FDG PET/CT to predict the pathological response to neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Methods: Fifty-eight resectable ESCC patients received two cycles of camrelizumab in combination with chemotherapy and were enrolled in the final analysis. The 18F-FDG PET/CT scans were acquired at baseline (scan-1) and after immunochemotherapy but prior to surgery (scan-2). Maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax), mean standardized uptake value (SUVmean), tumor-to-blood pool SUVmax ratio (SUVTBR), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), and total lesion glycolysis (TLG) were evaluated for their association with the pathological response to immunochemotherapy. Results: Nineteen patients (32.8%, 19/58) had pCR and thirty-nine patients (67.2%, 39/58) had non-pCR after two doses of camrelizumab and chemotherapy. At scan-2, the SUVmax, SUVmean, SUVTBR, TLG, and MTV were significantly lower in pCR than in non-pCR patients. Decrease in TLG and MTV between scan-2 and scan-1 of the same patient was significantly higher in the pCR than in the non-pCR group. In the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, SUVmax, SUVmean, SUVTBR, TLG, and MTV in scan-2 showed excellent predictive value for the pCR of primary tumors. Furthermore, SUVmax in scan-2 were higher in positive lymph nodes than in negative ones, suggesting a high negative predictive ability (98.6%) with a cut-off value at 1.4. Conclusion: The parameters of 18F-FDG PET/CT have the excellent performance for predicting pCR after the combined neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy in resectable ESCC. Role of 18F-FDG PET/CT SUVmax in Predicting Recurrence and Prognosis for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients

Abstract:Objective Maximal standardized uptake value (SUVmax) of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) has been shown to be a prognostic indicator for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.This study aimed to investigate the predicting value of SUVmax in recurrence and prognosis of early NSCLC patients with complete resection.Methods NSCLC patients who were examined by 18F-FDG PET/CT before surgery and took complete resection were retrospectively reviewed.All the clinical information was collected.The association between pretreatment SUVmax and clinical characteristic was analyzed using chi-square test.The correlation between SUVmax and disease free survival and overall survival was analyzed using KaplanMeier survival analysis and COX proportional hazards model.Results Seventy-nine NSCLC patients with both 18F-FDG PET/CT examination and complete resection were enrolled into this study.Median overall survival was 35.1 months (8.1-77.2 months).The median value of SUVmax in total patients was 8.4.The madian disease free survival and overall survival in patients with SUVmax＜8.4 were longer than those in patients with SUVmax ≥ 8.4 (P =0.000,0.001,respectively).In the multivariate analysis,SUVmax was positively correlated with disease free survival and overall survival (P =0.002,0.029,respectively).Conclusions SUVmax of 18F-FDG PET/CT is an independent predictive factor for recurrence and prognosis in NSCLC patients.High SUVmax is associated with high recurrence rate and poor prognosis in NSCLC patients with complete resection.

Abstract:Application of a direct-current electric field in soils that contain contaminated liquid is expected to produce an important in situ means of environmental restoration. The electric field induces a motion of the liquid and dissolved ions that transports the contaminant to wells for removal. Electrode chemistry plays an important role, and reagents can be introduced at the electrodes to enhance contaminant removal rates. Experiments and modeling demonstrate high degrees of contaminant removal, propagation of sharp acid and base wave fronts from the electrodes, and a "focusing" effect by which metals accumulate in regions of the soil.

Abstract:Objective: To compare three fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (18F-FDG PET) (EORTC criteria and PERCIST) and computed tomography (CT) (RECIST1.1) for response evaluation and prognosis prediction in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) monotherapy. Subjects and methods: Forty NSCLC patients underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT scans at baseline and after 4 to 8 cycles of nivolumab or pembrolizumab. Therapeutic response was evaluated according to EORTC criteria, PERCIST, and RECIST1.1,then concordance among those was assessed using Cohen's κ coefficient. Progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) was examined using log-rank and Cox methods. Results: The number of complete metabolic response (CMR)/partial metabolic response (PMR)/stable metabolic disease (SMD)/progressive metabolic disease (PMD) were 8/10/4/18 for EORTC criteria and 9/9/4/18 for PERCIST. Using RECIST1.1, those of CR/PR/SD/PD were 4/10/12/14. Although there was high concordance between PERCIST and EORTC (92.5% of patients; κ=0.924), that between PERCIST and RECIST1.1 was substantial (65.0%; κ=0.560) and that between EORTC and RECIST1.1 (65.0%; κ=0.574). After a median 23.2 months (range 7.2 to 51.8 months), 32 patients had documented progression and 24 patients died from NSCLC. According to both PET and CT, patients with no progression (CMR/PMR/SMD or CR/PR/SD) showed significantly longer PFS and OS than PMD or PD patients (EORTC: P<0.0001 and P<0.0001, respectively, PERCIST: P<0.0001 and P=0.0001, respectively, RECIST1.1: P<0.0001 and P<0.0001, respectively). In a univariate analysis total MTV (P=0.042) on pre-ICI treatment 18F-FDGPET/CT scans was significantly associated with progression. Highest SUVmax (P<0.0001), total MTV (P=0.0062), total TLG (P<0.0001), highest SULpeak (P<0.0001), and total TLGL (P<0.0001) on post-ICI treatment 18F-FDG PET/CT scans were also were significantly associated with progression. Moreover, the change rate of highest SUVmax (P<0.0001), total metabolic tumor volume (MTV) (P<0.0001), total lesion glycolysis(TLG) (P<0.0001), highest SULpeak (P<0.0001), total TLGL (P<0.0001), size (P=0.0012), EORTC (P<0.0001), PERCIST (P<0.0001), and RECIST 1.1 (P<0.0001) on two PET/CT scans were significantly associated with progression. A multivariate analysis confirmed the change rate of total MTV (P=0.034), and total TLGL (P=0.0027), EORTC (P=0.018), PERCIST (P=0.045), and RECIST1.1 (P=0.0037) as independent negative PFS predictors. Conclusion: Both 18F-FDG PET (EORTC criteria and PERCIST) and CT (RECIST1.1) after 4 to 8ICI monotherapy cycles are accurate for evaluation of tumor response and predicting prognosis in NSCLC patients.

Abstract:Single crystals of triclinic Pr2(B2O5)(MoO4) were prepared from an incongruently melting flux in the system Pr2O3–MoO3–B2O3 in a platinum crucible in an atmosphere of air. In the crystal structure, distorted edge-sharing [PrO8] square antiprisms form a three-dimensional framework. These are further linked by isolated [MoO4] tetrahedra and isolated pyroborate groups [B2O5], the latter consisting of two independent trigonal [BO3] groups sharing one O atom. The [MoO4] tetrahedra and the [B2O5] groups are arranged in alternating layers parallel to the ab plane.
Predictive Value Of Suvmax Measured By F-18-Fdg Pet/Ct In Patients With Early Stage Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Abstract:In this study we aimed toinvestigate the predictive value of maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) detected by fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (F-18-FDG PET/CT) in stage I and II non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The records of 240 NSCLC patients were analyzed retrospectively. Clinicopathologic characteristics were evaluated to identify the independent factors that affect SUVmax. The diagnostic efficiency and optimal cut-off value of SUVmax were calculated by the receiver operating characteristic curve. Survival curves were estimated according to the Kaplan-Meier method and statistical differences were assessed using the log-rank test. Univariate analysis showed that the gender, smoking history, tumor size, histology, lymphovascular invasion (LVI), visceral pleural invasion (VPI), p-T factor, p-N factor and p-TNM stage were correlated to SUVmax. Multivariate regression analysisidentified tumor size (P = 0.001), histology (P < 0.001), LVI (P = 0.023), and p-TNM stage (P = 0.027) as independent factors. SUVmax was a predictor for LVI and nodal metastasis with the highest diagnostic accuracy at a cut-off value of 7. Patients with SUVmax < 7 had significantly better relapse-free survival than those with SUVmax >= 7 (P < 0.001). While there was no significant difference in overall survival (OS) between the two groups (P = 0.107), patients with SUVmax < 7 had a higher 5-y OS rate than those with SUVmax >= 7 (86.3% versus 74.1%). In conclusion, preoperative SUVmax indicates the aggressiveness of the primary tumor, and shows a significant association with relapse after complete resection of early stage NSCLC.

Abstract:Wassermann reaction, radiographs of the skull, chest, and cervical spine, an electro-encephalogram and an air encephalogram, were all entirely negative or normal. This patient had typical acute Leber's optic neuritis which persisted, associated with hemiparesis lasting for two months. If it had not been for the family history of Leber's disease he could well have been diagnosed as an unusual case of disseminated sclerosis with bilateral retrobulbar neuritis. Unlike his sister (case 23) he developed neural signs at the same time as the optic neuritis.
