Abstract:Phthalonitrile (3) including 4-(4-fluorophenyl)-5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thio substituent and its peripherally tetra substituted metal-free (4), zinc(II) (5) and lead(II) (6) phthalocyanine derivatives were prepared and characterized by FTIR, mass, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscopic data. All studied phthalocyanines had good solubility in common organic solvents and did not aggregate. The photophysical and photochemical behaviors of the phthalocyanine complexes (4–6) were examined in DMSO to determinate their PDT potential. Singlet oxygen, fluorescence and photodegradation quantum yields showed that zinc(II) phthalocyanine (5) has potential as Type II photosensitizer for PDT applications.Graphical

Analysis on the phenomenon of line harmonic content amplification for AC-Driven Electrical Multiple Unit

Abstract:In the type test process of a certain type AC-Driven Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU), because of the logical error of pulse rectifier's carrier phase shifting control, line side harmonic content is amplified. Transient value of line voltage increases and the normal work of other EMU under the same power supply arm is impacted. Through harmonic analysis on test data and line side harmonic characteristic of EMU, this article finds out the reason why line harmonic content is amplified. By modifying pulse rectifier's control software, successfully solve the problem of too much line side harmonic content in the operation of the EMU.

Abstract:Electrochromic small molecules suffer from the difficult film processibility and serious dissolvability at their oxidation state, which greatly limit their applications in electrochromic areas. Here, well-defined electrochemical polymer structures, pCZ-FSQ and pCZ-FEQ, are obtained by taking advantage of the unique electrochemical dimerization of carbazole, and low redox-potential phenothiazine and phenoxazine groups are introduced as an electrochromic color-changing unit with the interruption of conjugation between them via an alkyl chain linkage. The obtained polymer films pCZ-FSQ and pCZ-FEQ are composed of the independent dimeric carbazole and organic small molecule units. Finally, they exhibit outstanding electrochromic properties with optical contrast of more than 50%, switching time of less than 1 s, excellent stability (over 500 cycles of optical stability), and ultrahigh coloration efficiency (276 cm(2) C-1 for pCZ-FSQ(,) 384 cm(2) C-1 for pCZ-FEQ). This is thought to be greatly attributed to the well-defined electrochemical polymer structures with dual electrochromic color-changing properties of both phenothiazine/phenoxazine and dimeric carbazole. This can also provide some implications for the future in-depth study of small molecule electrochromism and the solution to the problem of difficult processing of small molecules.

Abstract:In this study, the new compounds; 3-(4-{[3-(trifluoromethyl)benzyl]oxy}phenyl)propan-1-ol 3 was prepared by the reaction of 4-(3-hydroxypropyl)phenol 1 with 1-(bromomethyl)-3-(trifluoromethyl)benzene 2 and 4-[3-(4-{[3 (trifluoromethyl)benzyl]oxy}phenyl)propoxy] phthalonitrile 5 was synthesized by the reaction of 4-nitrophthalonitrile 4 with 3-(4-{[3-(trifluoromethyl)benzyl]oxy}phenyl)propan-1-ol 3. Novel peripherally tetra substituted H2Pc 6, Co(II) 7, Cu(II) 8, Ni(II) 9 and Fe(II) 10 phthalocyanines, which have peripheral positions with 4-[3-(4-{[3 (trifluoromethyl)benzyl]oxy}phenyl)propoxy] groups, were synthesized and all of the new compounds characterized by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, UV–Vis, mass spectroscopies and elemental analysis. The electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical investigation of the phthalocyanines carrying 4-[3-(4-{[3 (trifluoromethyl)benzyl]oxy}phenyl)propoxy] groups were studied using various electrochemical techniques in DMF on a glassy carbon electrode. Cyclic voltammetry and square wave voltammetry studies show that the complexes have either metal based or ligand-based diffusion controlled electron transfer properties. To shed more light on the electron-transfer steps of the complexes and assignments of the redox couples were carried out by spectroelectrochemical measurements. The color changes during spectral changes of redox species were recorded with in situ electrocolorimetric measurements. The electrochemical and in situ UV–Vis spectral change of complexes indicated their applicability in the fields of the electrochemical technologies.

Abstract:In this study, asymmetric zinc phthalocyanine compounds with Donor-π-Anchor (D-π-A) property that enable the movement of electrons in molecular structure in one direction were synthesized. Phthalocyanines were designed to ensure electron mobility within the molecule and to facilitate the transfer of electrons to the TiO2 layer. The synthesized asymmetric zinc phthalocyanines (ZnPc-1 and ZnPc-2) are molecules with three donor biphenyls and one anchor aldehyde group and three acceptor/anchor cyano and one anchor aldehyde group, respectively. The effect of biphenyl and cyano groups on cell efficiency with aldehyde anchor group was investigated. The structure of the synthesized phthalocyanines was characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry (FTIR), Mass Spectrometry (MS), UV-vis, Fluorescence spectroscopy. The experimentally calculated optical band gap values were supported by the values found by Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. dye sensitive solar cells were measured and the efficiencies were evaluated with reference to the N719 standard dye. In the solar cell measurements of the designed phthalocyanines, the structure containing the cyano group has been given a higher photovoltaic cell thanks to the higher short circuit photo-current (Jsc). In this way, the highest power conversion efficiency value was achieved among the cyano group molecules.

Abstract:In this research, cofacial ball type metallo phthalocyanines (MPcs) with a longer bridge, which by adding a –CH2 group to the oxo bridge, were obtained by working the 4,4′-(((4-( tert -butyl)-1,2-phenylene)bis(methylene))bis(oxy))diphthalonitrile beginning complex. Molecular characterizations of the starting compound and dinuclear ball type MPcs (Co, Fe, Mn, Zn, Ni) obtained from it were made using elemental analysis, 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, FT-IR, UV–Vis, and MALDI-TOF mass spectroscopy. In addition, how the macromolecule's spectral, electrochemical, in situ spectroelectrochemical, and electrochromic properties changed was investigated when the phthalocyanine ( Pc ) rings moved away from each other due to the increasing linking bridge length. The electrochemical properties of ball type Pcs were investigated via Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) and Square Wave Voltammetry (SWV) in the non-aqueous solvent system on a Pt working electrode (WE). In situ spectroelectrochemical measurements also were carried out to support the electrochemical measurements. In situ electrocolorimetric techniques revealed color changes relevant to the redox processes. Electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical measurements showed that ball type metallo-Pcs form steadfast mixed-valence species based on metal and/or Pc ring on account of the fact that there are forceful and striking intramolecular interactions between the two Pc segments. As a result of the cofacial molecular structure of ball type metallo-Pcs and the split molecular orbitals, the complexes have rich redox properties. They can be utilized as a material in electrochemical technologies since they have plentiful redox behaviors. In situ spectroelectrochemical and in situ electrocolorimetric measurements demonstrated that they also have rich spectral and chromatic features. Due to the apparent color and spectral variations, they are appropriate for electrochromic appliances.

Abstract:<p class="Para">This study presents synthesis of novel peripherally tetrasubstituted Zn(II) and In(III) phthalocyanine complexes bearing 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy groups. These phthalocyanines were characterized by performing elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and ultraviolet visible spectrophotometric techniques. Aggregation properties of the resulting phthalocyanines were studied in different concentrations of DMSO. Aggregation behavior of the newly synthesized phthalocyanines was investigated in various organic solvents, as well. Photochemical and photophysical characterization of the resulting compounds were carried out to evaluate their photodynamic therapy properties in DMSO. Synthesis, photo-physicochemical and biological properties of novel tetrahydropyrimidone-substituted metallo-phthalocyanines

Abstract:In this study, new peripherally substituted symmetric zinc and magnesium phthalocyanines (4 and 5) were successfully prepared by cyclotetramerization of the tetrahydropyrimidone (THPM)-linked phthalonitrile 3. The identity of the compounds were confirmed primarily through spectroscopic analysis including NMR, FT-IR, UV-Vis and MALDI-TOF mass spectroscopy. The photophysical and photochemical properties of the synthesized phthalocyanines (Pcs) were examined using UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence emission spectroscopy techniques. The quantum yields of singlet oxygen were found to be 0.50 and 0.33 for compounds 4 and 5 in DMSO, respectively. In addition to photo-physicochemical properties, the enhanced biological activities of compounds 4 and 5 were investigated using a range of biological assays, namely, antibiofilm, microbial cell viability, antioxidant, DNA cleavage, antimicrobial and photodynamic antimicrobial assays. The maximum DPPH inhibition of 4 and 5 was detected as 40.46% and 25.76% at 100 mg L-1, respectively. Fragmentation of the DNA molecule was observed at concentrations of 25 mg L-1, 50 mg L-1 and 100 mg L-1 for 4 and 5. Additionally, effective inhibition of microbial cell viability was observed with the targeted Pcs. The antibiofilm properties of these compounds were found to be concentration-dependent. The biofilm inhibition activities of 4 and 5 were found to be 96.01% and 92.04% for S. aureus, while they were 95.42% and 91.27%, for P. aeruginosa, respectively. The antimicrobial activities of 4 and 5 on different microorganisms were evaluated using the microdilution assay. In the case of photodynamic antimicrobial treatment, the newly synthesized Pcs showed more effective antimicrobial inhibition compared to the control. These findings suggest that compounds 4 and 5 can be used as promising photodynamic antimicrobial agents for the treatment of many diseases, particularly infectious diseases.

Abstract:The diarylethene-zinc phthalocyanine hybrid T-ZnPc showed both solvent-dependent and photo-controllable 3-aggregation behavior, thus afforded multiple possibilities for tuning the third-order nonlinearities of T-ZnPc by external stimuli. The cubic hyperpolarizability (gamma) values of T-ZnPc were found to increase in J-aggregates, which was further enhanced by UV-irradiation. The gamma value of molecularly dispersed T-ZnPc in 20:1 chloroform-ethyl acetate mixture was measured as 1.2 x 10(-3)degrees esu. Under the illumination of UV light, this value increased to 2.8 x 10(-3)degrees esu due to formation of strong J-aggregates, suggesting a 2.3-fold enhancement. Besides, it was found that both the nonlinear absorption and the nonlinear refraction contributed significantly to the large gamma values of T-ZnPc, while for most of our previous studied Pcs, the nonlinear refraction always plays a predominant role. This observation further demonstrated that the incorporation of thiophene rings into Pcs could significantly increase their multiphoton absorption cross-sections. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract:This study investigates novel zinc and indium phthalocyanines with Schiff base and sulphur moieties, focusing on their potential for cancer therapy and antimicrobial applications. It explores the effectiveness of photochemical and sono-photochemical methods to enhance singlet oxygen production, which is crucial for photodynamic therapy. The synthesized complexes in this study demonstrated high singlet oxygen quantum yields, with D3 (ZnPc) and D4 (InPc) showing Φ∆PDT values of 0.71 and 0.75, and Φ∆SPDT values of 0.91 and 0.94, respectively. Furthermore, the evaluation for biological properties revealed that both D3 and D4 exhibit significant antidiabetic properties, DPPH radical scavenging activity, DNA cleavage, antimicrobial activity, biofilm inhibition, and microbial cell viability impacts, both with and without photodynamic therapy. Notably, D3 and D4 achieved antimicrobial cell viability inhibition rates of 84.67±4.67% and 98.32±5.96%, respectively, showcasing their effectiveness in photodynamic antimicrobial therapy. Overall, the study highlights the potential of these phthalocyanine complexes as advanced photosensitizers, with strong singlet oxygen generation and promising biological activities, paving the way for future therapeutic applications.

Abstract:Finding new hole-transporting materials (HTMs) suitable for replacing the state-of-the-art spiro-OMeTAD is still challenging. In this work, newly synthesized diarylamine-substituted metal phthalocyanines (MPcs, M = Zn(II) or Cu(II)) functionalized with either linear or branched alkoxy chains are evaluated as HTMs in perovskite solar cells. Both the nature of the alkoxy chains and that of the coordinated metal species were found to influence the functional properties of the new MPcs. In particular, devices based on a ZnPc featuring four n-butoxy side chains exhibited the highest power conversion efficiencies (PCEs). A PCE of 20.00% was reached for triple cation perovskite devices, and a PCE up to 20.18% could be achieved for double cation devices.

Reversible Electrochromic/Electrofluorochromic Dual Switching in Zn(II)-Based Metallo-Supramolecular Polymer Films

Abstract:The introduction of novel materials with multifunctional chromogenic properties, such as electrochromic/electrofluorochromic (EC/EFC) properties, has recently attracted prospective interest in the development of various optoelectronic devices and smart windows. In this study, a novel Zn(II)-based metallo-supramolecular polymer (polyZn) has been developed as an ON/OFF switchable EFC application with prominent EC behavior. In this regard, the polymeric chain of polyZn was first synthesized by 1:1 complexation in a zigzag manner with Zn(II) ions at the metal center and 4,4'-[bis(2,2':6',2″-terpyridinyl)benzene]triphenylamine (LTPY-TPA) as the redox-active ditopic ligand. The polyZn exhibits excellent solubility in organic solvents and can form a very good uniform thin film on an indium tin oxide/glass substrate by spin-coating. In a neutral state, transparent polyZn exhibits a bright yellow color to the naked eye (absorption at ∼325 nm). The electroactive triphenylamine (TPA) core of LTPA-TPY, however, undergoes reversible single-electron oxidation when a positive bias of +1.6 V vs Ag/Ag+ is applied, generating radical cations (TPA ↔ TPA•+) with a significant drop in transparency (77%). A noticeable chromic shift in the hue of the film from brilliant yellow to green was observed with the appearance of a near-infrared absorption band at ∼897 nm with a tail of 1300-1600 nm. Interestingly, in addition to this EC phenomenon, the fabricated solid-state polyZn film exhibits intense, high-contrast reddish-orange photoluminescence with λem = 650 nm, which is significantly desired as a molecular probe for bioimaging. Both the TPA core and the redox-inactive Zn(II)-terpyridine core emit orange-red photoluminescence in polyZn, which is significantly quenched upon the oxidation of the film and is re-emitted at 0.0 V vs Ag/Ag+. This ON/OFF EFC transition was sustained for several cycles. This study should motivate to design and create distinctive new unique materials with combined EC/EFC behavior for the fabrication of optoelectronic devices by combining a metal-fluorescent core with a redox-active spacer.

Abstract:A novel asymmetrically substituted, soluble, metal-free phthalocyanine with only one reactive nucleophilic substituent of amine was synthesized fur the first time by reduction reaction with sodium sulfide nonahydrate of the nitro group in nitrotri(tert-butylphthalocyanine, which was prepared by mixed condensation of two corresponding diiminoisoindolines. The compound can be separated by common column chromatography either on neutral Al2O3 using chloroform/hexane as the eluting solvent or on silica gel using chloroform as the eluent. The structure was confirmed by elemental analysis, H-1 NMR, UV-vis, IR, and mass spectroscopy. Thermostability of the compound was checked by thermogravimetry analysis. Langmuir-Blodgett films of the compound were fabricated, and the configuration of the phthalocyanine molecules at the air-water interface was suggested in terms of the limiting area per molecule. Second-harmonic generation (SHG) from monolayer and multilayers was measured, The SH intensities of the monolayer relative to a Y-cut quartz wedge I-2 omega(p-p) and I-2 omega(s-p) are 1.97 x 10(-6) and 1.71 x 10(-7), respectively. The second-order susceptibility (chi((2))) and the molecular hyperpolarizability (beta) values of the monolayer are 3.33 x 10(-8) and 5.90 x 10(-30) esu, respectively.

Abstract:Octa-pinene substituted double-decker lanthanide(III) phthalocyanines LnPc*(2) (Ln = Eu, Er, Lu) were prepared and their spectral, electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical and electrochromatic properties were studied. The introduction of the bulky and rigid pinene groups into phthalocyanines provides several advantages for the resulting double-decker lanthanide(III) phthalocyanine complex. First of all, the intermolecular interaction in the new LnPc*(2) complex was weakened, leading to excellent solubility. Secondly, intramolecular distances between the macrocycles in LnPc*(2) molecules were also increased, resulting in a significant red shift of the ring-to-ring intervalence charge transfer bands. Particularly, the intervalence bands of EuPc*(2), ErPc*(2) and LuPc*(2) were observed at 1944, 1693 and 1620 nm, respectively, which appear to be the most red-shifted absorption in comparison with the literature values of mononuclear double-decker Eu(III), Er(III) and Lu(III) phthalocyanines. Thirdly, given the red-shifted near-IR (NIR) absorption and the various colorful oxidation states, the solution of LnPc*(2) exhibits electrochromic behavior both in the UV-Vis and near-IR regions. Notably, spectral change of EuPc*(2) covers almost the whole range of the NIR region. Finally, the pinene groups also enhance the film-forming ability. Therefore, we were able to fabricate solid state electrochromic devices through a solution processable method. The as-fabricated devices show reversible electrochromic behavior with high color efficiency and good stability.

Abstract:It is well known that the third-order nonlinear optical(3rd NLO) properties of phthalocyanines(Pcs) depend not only on the chemical structure of component monomers,but also on their packing arrangement,which provides the possibility to incorporate switchability into the 3rd NLO behavior of such materials at supramolecular level.Herein,we rationally designed three kinds of novel photochromic moiety containing Pcs.By utilizing the photo-induced changes in the geometry and electronic delocalization distributions of photochromic moieties under the alternative illumination of suitable UV and visible light,the self-assemblies of Pcs were successfully photo-controlled in an efficient manner.As a consequence,a series of supramolecular 3rd NLO switching materials was obtained.All these materials showed very apparent difference in molecular second hyperpolarizabilities between "on" and "off" states.Besides,they also showed large molecular second hyperpolarizabilities at the order of 10-30 esu both in "on" and "off" states.All the results suggest that these materials are potential in emerging optoelectronics and photonic technologies.
Photophysical and nonlinear optical properties of an azobenzene substituted zinc phthalocyanine

Abstract:Photophysical property and third-order optical nonlinearity of an azobenzene substituted zinc phthalocyanine (azo-ZnPc) in chloroform solution were studied by UV–Vis spectra method and a picosecond Z-scan technique at 532nm with pulse duration of 25ps, respectively. It was found that the azo-ZnPc shows large positive nonlinear refraction and positive nonlinear absorption, exhibiting the defocusing effect and reverse saturable absorption, respectively. The molecular second hyperpolarizability of the azo-ZnPc dyad was measured to be 3.9×10−30esu. All the results suggest that the studied azo-ZnPc dyad may have potential applications in the field of nonlinear optics.
Novel methoxyphenylthio-substituted phthalocyanines: synthesis, characterization, proton-transfer, and acid-sensing properties

Abstract:This study involves the synthesis of novel methoxyphenylthio-substituted phthalocyanines and their starting phthalonitriles as well as the characterization and investigation of their physical and spectral properties. Herein, although phthalocyanines were categorized as alpha and beta-substituted, the numbers of external substituent methoxy groups selected to obtain soluble phthalocyanines were also different. After their molecular structure was characterized using elemental analysis, FT-IR, NMR, and MALDI-TOF-MS techniques, the exhaustive electronic spectra of novel phthalocyanines were studied. During extensive UV-Vis spectroscopy studies, proton transfer complexes in basic coordinating solvents and protonated species in solvents containing acids as impurities occurred incidentally in some phthalocyanines. Then, it was investigated whether this incidentally encountered situation was related to the number of methoxy groups as external substituents. Consequently, it was revealed that the acidity of H atoms in the center of phenylthio-substituted phthalocyanines could be altered by outer groups in the substituents, and the wavelengths of the Q bands of the novel Pcs changed under the influence of these outer groups. Computational TD-DFT study at the ωB97XD/6-311G(d,p) level confirmed the redshift observed in electronic spectra upon inserting two additional OCH 3 at outer groups, originating from small decreases in the HOMO–LUMO energy gap. The NBO charge distribution justified the electron donation from sulfur atoms to the phthalocyanine ring.

Abstract:A novel phthalocyanine, 2,9(10),16(17),23(24)-tetra(4-benzoyl)phenoxyphthalocyanine, and its complexes with Zn(II), Cu(II), Co(II), and Ni(II) have been synthesized and characterized by a combination of elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR, UV-vis spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. All of the materials are very soluble in common organic solvents such as dichloromethane, chloroform, tetrahydrofuran, N,N-dimethylformamide and dimethyl sulfoxide. The Q band wavelengths of the complexes decrease in the order: Zn > Cu > Ni > Co. Redox processes were observed at −1.06, −0.74, 0.51 and 0.98 V for the free phthalocyanine, at −0.72 and 1.04 V for the Co(II) complex, at −1.24, −0.77, −0.24, 0.61 and 0.91 V for the Cu(II) complex, and at −0.74 and 1.20 V for the Ni(II) complex. The cyclic voltammograms of the phthalocyanine ring of the four species are similar, with reduction and oxidation couples each involving a one-electron transfer process.
Solid-state supramolecular structures and excellent photothermal activities of dimeric zinc(II) phthalocyanines axially bridged with bipyridine derivatives

Abstract:Metal-ligand axial coordination of zinc(II) phthalocyanines is an efficient strategy for regulation of structures and properties. In this work, we designed and prepared four unsubstituted zinc(II) phthalocyanine (ZnPc) dimer-based supramolecular complexes (1–4) via axtial coordination with bipyridine derivatives. Single crystal X-ray analysis revealed that the four novel complexes were dimeric (i.e. ZnPc-ligand-ZnPc), with H-shape for 1, saddle-like for 2, and Z-shapes for 3 and 4. It's interesting that a pair of saddle-like dimers of 2 crossed each other to form an interlocked tetramer structure. Furthermore, 3 and 4 were dense stacking because of their semirigid ligands, which significantly enhanced the intermolecular interactions. Intriguingly, in the crystal structure of 4, the naphthalimide ring of the ligand embedded into two neighboring phthalocyanine macrocycles, resulting in a slipped sandwich structure of ZnPc-naphthalimide-ZnPc with double π···π interactions. More importantly, the strong intermolecular interactions led to very broad absorption spectra in vis-NIR region, quenched fluorescence, and highly efficient photothermal effect. Upon irradiation, 3 and 4 could reach up to 85.7 °C and 89.2 °C, respectively, enabling them to serve as outstanding photothermal conversion materials used for photothermal imaging and therapy.
