Abstract:In the realm of object tracking, complex backgrounds pose significant challenges, often leading to the underperformance of existing trackers that predominantly rely on deep features from the final layer of feature extraction networks. These features, while semantically rich, are not always sufficient to distinguish targets from cluttered environments. To address this limitation, we introduce the Background-aware Siamese Network (BASNet), an innovative approach that enhances the salience of features in intricate scenes. Central to our method is the Dual-Feature Fusion (DFF) model, meticulously crafted to stabilize target representation amidst distracting backgrounds. BASNet leverages the complementary strengths of deep and shallow features, harnessing the former’s semantic depth and the latter’s precision in spatial localization. This fusion not only elevates feature utilization but also mitigates the shortcomings associated with the superficial output of shallow networks. Further refining the target’s spatial definition, our attention-focusing module (AF) plays a pivotal role. It accentuates pertinent features 1 and attenuates noise emanating from the multi-layer feature amalgamation. The module’s ingenuity lies in its cyclic attention operations, which enable each pixel to establish extensive dependencies with all others , thereby spotlighting salient features. For precise target localization, BASNet employs the SIoU loss within its regression branch, a strategic choice that contributes to the model’s accuracy. Extensive experiments demonstrate the competitive performance of our method on six datasets: OTB50, OTB100, UAV123, VOT2016, VOT2018, and VOT2019.

Abstract:Plenty of face detection and recognition methods have been proposed and got excellent results in decades. Common face recognition pipeline consists of: 1) face detection, 2) face alignment, 3) feature extraction, 4) similarity calculation, which are separated and independent from each other. The separated face analyzing stages lead the model redundant calculation and are hard for end-to-end training. In this paper, we proposed a novel end-to-end trainable convolutional network framework for face detection and recognition, in which a geometric transformation matrix was directly learned to align the faces, instead of predicting the facial landmarks. In training stage, our single CNN model is supervised only by face bounding boxes and personal identities, which are publicly available from WIDER FACE [52] dataset and CASIA-WebFace [53] dataset. Tested on Face Detection Dataset and Benchmark (FDDB) [21] dataset and Labeled Face in the Wild (LFW) [19] dataset, we have achieved 89.24% recall for face detection task and 98.63% verification accuracy for face recognition task simultaneously, which are comparable to state-of-the-art results.
Local to Global Tracker: A Siamese Network for Long-term Tracking

Abstract:Visual object tracking is a basic task in computer vision, which can be applied to different applications. Former methods of single object tracking problem demands to perform target state estimation according to object position of previous frame, but these methods are poorly capable of handling the fast movement of the target. In this paper, we introduce a Siamese network for single object tracking task. The network consists of two branches, one of which is the classification branch used to predict positive or negative samples, and the other is the regression branch used to predict the specific location of the object in sequence. In addition, we propose a local to global algorithm for long-term tracking to expand the search region when the target is out-of-view or full occlusion. Experiments show that our tracker achieves very promising results on VOT2018LT datasets while running at over 89 FPS.

Abstract:In this article, we detect and track visual objects by using Siamese network or twin neural network. The Siamese network is constructed to classify moving objects based on the associations of object detection network and object tracking network, which are thought of as the two branches of the twin neural network. The proposed tracking method was designed for single-target tracking, which implements multitarget tracking by using deep neural networks and object detection. The contributions of this article are stated as follows. First, we implement the proposed method for visual object tracking based on multiclass classification using deep neural networks. Then, we attain multitarget tracking by combining the object detection network and the single-target tracking network. Next, we uplift the tracking performance by fusing the outcomes of the object detection network and object tracking network. Finally, we speculate on the object occlusion problem based on IoU and similarity score, which effectively diminish the influence of this issue in multitarget tracking.
The Multi-task Fully Convolutional Siamese Network with Correlation Filter Layer for Real-Time Visual Tracking

Abstract:In recent years, the trackers based on the siamese network have achieved good performance on various benchmarks. However, most siamese trackers have difficulty in discriminating the similar objects and cannot benefit from the shallow features in the neural network. In this paper, we used three methods to solve the above problems. We use the VGGNet as the backbone of our networks instead of the most used AlexNet. We jointly train the correlation filter and the embedding similarity learning. The multi-task learning makes our tracker benefit from both the shallow and deep features in the neural network. We use the correlation filter as an attention module to make the tracker pay more attention to the object being tracked. Extensive experiments on benchmarks show that our approach yields 11.4% relative gain in OTB2015 and 33% relative gain in VOT2017 compared with the SiamFC. The proposed tracker can be real-time while achieving leading performance in OTB2013, OTB2015 and VOT2017.

Abstract:Recently Siamese-based trackers have shown their outstanding performance in visual object tracking community. But they seldom pay attention to the inter-branch interaction as well as intra-branch feature fusion from different convolution layers. In this paper, we build up a comprehensive Siamese network which consists of a mutual learning subnetwork (M-net) and a feature fusion subnetwork (F-net), to realize object tracking. Each of them is a Siamese network with special functions. M-net is designed to help the two branches mine the dependencies from each other, thus the object template is adaptively updated to a certain extent. F-net fuses different levels of convolutional features for full usage of spatial and semantic information. We also design a global-local channel attention (GLCA) module in F-net to capture the channel dependencies for a proper feature fusion. Our method takes ResNet as feature extractor and is trained offline in an end-to-end style. We evaluate our method in several famous benchmarks such as OTB2013, OTB2015, VOT2015, VOT2016, NFS and TC128. Extensive experimental results demonstrate our method achieves competitive results while maintaining a considerable real-time speed.

Abstract:Siamese networks enable end-to-end training for visual tracking, achieving excellent performance in recent years. However, classical Siamese-based formulation relies on an offline-trained appearance model to perform tracking for each frame, ignoring the temporal variation at the online stage. As been verified that temporal motion is crucial for robust and accurate tracking, we propose a novel Motion-Perceive Siamese network (SiamMP) that explicitly predicts motion patterns, providing complementary clues for the appearance-only formulation. Specifically, successive historical frames are collected, with their appearance and potential trajectory being employed to predict the next state, achieving motion awareness correspondingly. Besides, an adaptive fusion module is dedicated to performing a decision-level negotiation between the tracking evidence of the appearance and the motion models. To verify the effectiveness and merit of our SiamMP, extensive experiments are conducted on several challenging benchmarks, including LaSOT, OTB100, GOT-10k, TC128, and DTB70. The comparison and analysis of the obtained results demonstrate the necessity and validity of involving the motion-perceive design in the Siamese framework.

Abstract:Abstract Visual tracking of generic objects is one of the fundamental but challenging problems in computer vision. Here, we propose a novel fully convolutional Siamese network to solve visual tracking by directly predicting the target bounding box in an end-to-end manner. We first reformulate the visual tracking task as two subproblems: a classification problem for pixel category prediction and a regression task for object status estimation at this pixel. With this decomposition, we design a simple yet effective Siamese architecture based classification and regression framework, termed SiamCAR, which consists of two subnetworks: a Siamese subnetwork for feature extraction and a classification-regression subnetwork for direct bounding box prediction. Since the proposed framework is both proposal- and anchor-free, SiamCAR can avoid the tedious hyper-parameter tuning of anchors, considerably simplifying the training. To demonstrate that a much simpler tracking framework can achieve superior tracking results, we conduct extensive experiments and comparisons with state-of-the-art trackers on a few challenging benchmarks. Without bells and whistles, SiamCAR achieves leading performance with a real-time speed. Furthermore, the ablation study validates that the proposed framework is effective with various backbone networks, and can benefit from deeper networks. Multiple Convolutional Features in Siamese Networks for Object Tracking

Abstract:Siamese trackers demonstrated high performance in object tracking due to their balance between accuracy and speed. Unlike classification-based CNNs, deep similarity networks are specifically designed to address the image similarity problem, and thus are inherently more appropriate for the tracking task. However, Siamese trackers mainly use the last convolutional layers for similarity analysis and target search, which restricts their performance. In this paper, we argue that using a single convolutional layer as feature representation is not an optimal choice in a deep similarity framework. We present a Multiple Features-Siamese Tracker (MFST), a novel tracking algorithm exploiting several hierarchical feature maps for robust tracking. Since convolutional layers provide several abstraction levels in characterizing an object, fusing hierarchical features allows to obtain a richer and more efficient representation of the target. Moreover, we handle the target appearance variations by calibrating the deep features extracted from two different CNN models. Based on this advanced feature representation, our method achieves high tracking accuracy, while outperforming the standard siamese tracker on object tracking benchmarks. Abstract:Visual object tracking is urgent yet challenging work since it requires the simultaneous and effective classification and estimation of a target. Thus, research on tracking has been attracting a considerable amount of attention despite the limitations of existing trackers owing to deformation, occlusion and motion. For most current tracking methods, researchers have proposed various ways to adopt a multi-scale search or anchors for estimation, but these methods always need prior knowledge and too many hyperparameters. To address these issues, we proposed a novel Siamese Attentional Cascade Keypoints Tracking Network named SiamACN to exactly track the object by using keypoints prediction instead of anchors. Compared to complex target prediction, the anchor-free method is performed to avoid plaguy hyperparameters, and a simplified hourglass network with global attention is considered the backbone to improve the tracking efficiency. Further, our framework uses keypoints prediction around the target with cascade corner pooling to simplify the model. To certificate the superiority of our framework, extensive tests are conducted on five tracking benchmarks, including OTB-2015, VOT-2016, VOT-2018, LaSOT and UAV123. Our method achieves the leading performance with an accuracy of 61.2% on VOT2016 and favorably runs at 32 FPS against other competing algorithms, which confirms its effectiveness in real-time applications.

Object Tracking Algorithm Based on Channel-interconnection-spatial Attention Mechanism and Siamese Region Proposal Network

Abstract:The target tracking algorithm based on the Siamese network has become one of the most mainstream and best tracking algorithms because of the balance of accuracy and speed. However, target tracking algorithms based on the Siamese network are affected by factors such as occlusion, illumination changes, motion changes, size changes and other factors in natural scenes, making designing a robust tracking algorithm a challenging task. In order to improve the feature extraction and discrimination capabilities of the algorithm in complex scenes, a tracking algorithm combining channel-interconnection-spatial attention mechanism was proposed. First a Siamese tracking framework with a deep convolutional network ResNet-50 as the backbone network was built to enhance feature extraction capabilities, then the channel-interconnection-spatial attention module was integrated to enhance the adaptability and discrimination capabilities of the model, then the multi-layer response maps were weighted and fused to make results more accurate, and finally the largescale datasets were used to train the network, and tracking tests on the benchmark OTB-2015 and VOT2016 and VOT2018 were completed. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is more robust and better adapt to complex scenes such as target appearance changes, similar distractors, and occlusion than the current mainstream.
DensSiam: End-to-End Densely-Siamese Network with Self-Attention Model for Object Tracking

Abstract:Convolutional Siamese neural networks have been recently used to track objects using deep features. Siamese architecture can achieve real time speed, however it is still difficult to find a Siamese architecture that maintains the generalization capability, high accuracy and speed while decreasing the number of shared parameters especially when it is very deep. Furthermore, a conventional Siamese architecture usually processes one local neighborhood at a time, which makes the appearance model local and non-robust to appearance changes. To overcome these two problems, this paper proposes DensSiam, a novel convolutional Siamese architecture, which uses the concept of dense layers and connects each dense layer to all layers in a feed-forward fashion with a similarity-learning function. DensSiam also includes a Self-Attention mechanism to force the network to pay more attention to the non-local features during offline training. Extensive experiments are performed on four tracking benchmarks: OTB2013 and OTB2015 for validation set; and VOT2015, VOT2016 and VOT2017 for testing set. The obtained results show that DensSiam achieves superior results on these benchmarks compared to other current state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract:Siamese network has been proven to achieve excellent results for visual object tracking where the SiamFC(Fully-Convolutional)is among the most well-known seminar work. Recently, with the successful application of the Region Proposal Network (RPN) in object detection, siamese networks combined with RPN have achieved good performance in visual tracking tasks. However, RPN requires the selection of the number, aspect ratio and size of the anchor boxes and these anchor-related parameters more often than not, need manual intervention and tuning. In this work, we first add a channel-aware module in the siamese network to obtain the more discriminative features. Thereafter, we propose an anchor-free strategy to replace the RPN module. The proposed framework consists of two networks, namely, the Siamese network and the Centerness Prediction network (CPN). We call the proposed method SiamCPN. In the Siamese network, Resnet50 is used as the backbone. SiamCPN is simple and relatively efficient due to the fact that it avoids the need for complicated hyper-parameters of the anchor boxes. Extensive experimental results on four visual tracking benchmark datasets, OTB100, VOT2016, UAV123 and LaSOT show that the proposed framework has achieved highly competitive and better performance compared with the state-of-the-art trackers. SiamCPN can run at 60 frames per second (FPS) on an AMD processor with 2 RTX3090.

Abstract:Visual tracking remains an open challenge, as it requires real-time and long-term accurate target prediction. Siamese network has been widely studied due to its excellent accuracy and speed. Since long-term tracking may lead to model degradation and drift, most existing algorithms cannot well solve this problem. This article proposes a new Siamese Network based on Fast Attention Network named SiamFA. This method designs an attention model, which can enhance the key and global information of the target, to obtain a more robust target model and achieve long-term tracking. At the same time, the attention model is used to obtain the potential position information of the target when calculating the similarity between the template and the search area. In addition, the attention network we design reduces many redundant operations and effectively improves computational efficiency. We utilize a multi-layer perceptron to forecast the bounding box to avoid excessive hyper-parameters. In order to verify the effectiveness of our network, we conduct tests on many commonly used datasets, such as OTB100, GOT-10k, LaSOT, TrackingNet, UAV123. Our method can achieve a success rate of 62.7% and the precision rate of 64.3% on LaSOT. At the same time, it can run at about 100fps, which exceeds the comparison network, proving that our network can run in real-time.

Learning to Match Using Siamese Network for Object Tracking.

Abstract:The general object tracking problem traditionally been tackled by modeling the object's appearance. In this paper we consider object tracking as a similarity measurement problem. We focus on learning a matching mechanism with great generalization ability. We present a Siamese convolutional neural network as a matching function to perform object tracking. First we simply match the exemplary target in previous frame with the candidates in a new frame using cosine similarity and return the most similar one by the learnt matching function. Then we perform bounding box regression to refine the target position given by the network as the final result. Extensive experiments on real-world benchmark datasets validate the superior performance of our approach.

Abstract:Siamese tracking paradigm has achieved great success, providing effective appearance discrimination and size estimation by the classification and regression. While such a paradigm typically optimizes the classification and regression independently, leading to task misalignment (accurate prediction boxes have no high target confidence scores). In this paper, to alleviate this misalignment, we propose a novel tracking paradigm, called SiamLA. Within this paradigm, a series of simple, yet effective localization-aware components are introduced, to generate localization-aware target confidence scores. Specifically, with the proposed localization-aware dynamic label (LADL) loss and localization-aware label smoothing (LALS) strategy, collaborative optimization between the classification and regression is achieved, enabling classification scores to be aware of location state, not just appearance similarity. Besides, we propose a separate localization branch, centered on a localization-aware feature aggregation (LAFA) module, to produce location quality scores to further modify the classification scores. Consequently, the resulting target confidence scores, are more discriminative for the location state, allowing accurate prediction boxes tend to be predicted as high scores. Extensive experiments are conducted on six challenging benchmarks, including GOT-10k, TrackingNet, LaSOT, TNL2K, OTB100 and VOT2018. Our SiamLA achieves state-of-the-art performance in terms of both accuracy and efficiency. Furthermore, a stability analysis reveals that our tracking paradigm is relatively stable, implying the paradigm is potential to real-world applications.

Abstract:Siamese trackers based on classification and regression have drawn extensive attention due to their appropriate balance between accuracy and efficiency. However, most of them are prone to failure in the face of abrupt motion or appearance changes. This paper proposes a Siamese-based tracker that incorporates spatial-semantic-aware attention and flexible spatiotemporal constraint. First, we develop a spatial-semantic-aware attention model, which identifies the importance of each feature region and channel to target representation through the single convolution attention network with a loss function and increases the corresponding weights in the spatial and channel dimensions to reinforce the target region and semantic information on the target feature map. Secondly, considering that the traditional method unreasonably weights the target response in abrupt motion, we design a flexible spatiotemporal constraint. This constraint adaptively adjusts the constraint weights on the response map by evaluating the tracking result. Finally, we propose a new template updating the strategy. This strategy adaptively adjusts the contribution weights of the tracking result to the new template using depth correlation assessment criteria, thereby enhancing the reliability of the template. The Siamese network used in this paper is a symmetric neural network with dual input branches sharing weights. The experimental results on five challenging datasets show that our method outperformed other advanced algorithms.

Abstract:Siamese networks are one of the most popular directions in the visual object tracking based on deep learning. In Siamese networks, the feature pyramid network (FPN) and the cross-correlation complete feature fusion and the matching of features extracted from the template and search branch, respectively. However, object tracking should focus on the global and contextual dependencies. Hence, we introduce a delicate residual transformer structure which contains a self-attention mechanism called encoder-decoder into our tracker as the part of neck. Under the encoder-decoder structure, the encoder promotes the interaction between the low-level features extracted from the target and search branch by the CNN to obtain global attention information, while the decoder replaces cross-correlation to send global attention information into the head module. We add a spatial and channel attention component in the target branch, which can further improve the accuracy and robustness of our proposed model for a low price. Finally, we detailly evaluate our tracker CTT on GOT-10k, VOT2019, OTB-100, LaSOT, NfS, UAV123 and TrackingNet benchmarks, and our proposed method obtains competitive results with the state-of-the-art algorithms.

Abstract:Single object tracking (SOT) is one of the most important tasks in computer vision. With the development of deep neural networks and the release for a series of large scale datasets for single object tracking, Siamese networks have been proposed and perform better than most of the traditional methods. However, recent Siamese networks are getting slower to obtain better performance as they become deeper. Most of those networks could only meet the needs of real-time object tracking in ideal environments. In order to achieve a better balance between efficiency and accuracy, we propose a simpler Siamese network for single object tracking, which runs fast in poor hardware configurations while remaining an acceptable accuracy. The proposed method consists of three parts: sample generation, SE-Siamese and regression localization. In the sample generation stage, template patch and detection patch are cropped from the selected video frames in a new way. The SE-Siamese subnetwork adopts Siamese network and Squeeze-and-Excitation (SE) network as the feature extractor which is an effective way of speeding up the training phase. The regression localization network aims to compute the location of the tracked object in a more efficient way without losing much precision. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, we conduct extensive experiments on several challenging tracking benchmark datasets, including VOT2015, VOT2016, VOT2017 and OTB-100. The experimental results show that our approach displays significant speed improvements compared to several strong baseline trackers (19.5 FPS to 44.4 FPS).

Abstract:We present an adaptive multi-feature fusion visual object tracking algorithm based on Siamese neural network with cross-attention mechanism, SiamAtten for short, which can effectively deal with large appearance changes, complex back-ground and interference. The proposed network consists of two parts. One is the full convolution feature extraction network based on cross-attention mechanism and the other is the region proposal generation network based on adaptive multi-feature fusion. The cross-attention mechanism is used in the first part to improve the response ability of feature extraction of the target. The adaptive feature fusion method is used in the second part to infer the target location in a step-by-step process and to get the robust region proposal by regression. Meanwhile, network parameters are reduced by using the depth-wise separable convolution, and the cross-attention mechanism is proposed in this paper can effectively enhance the target identification ability and elevate the robustness. Extensive experiments are carried out on three benchmark datasets and much advanced tracking results are obtained.
