Abstract:Background: It is uncertain what could be the best training methods for infection prevention and control when an infectious disease threat is active or imminent in especially vulnerable or resource-scarce settings. Methods: A scoping review was undertaken to find and summarise relevant information about training modalities, replicability and effectiveness of IPC training programmes for clinical staff as reported in multiple study designs. Eligible settings were conflict-affected or in countries classified as low-income or lower-middle income (World Bank 2022 classifications). Search terms for LILACS and Scopus were developed with input of an expert working group. Initially found articles were dual-screened independently, data were extracted especially about infection threat, training outcomes, needs assessment and teaching modalities. Backwards and forwards citation searches were done to find additional studies. Narrative summary describes outcomes and aspects of the training programmes. A customised quality assessment tool was developed to describe whether each study could be informative for developing specific future training programmes in relevant vulnerable settings, based on six questions about replicability and eight questions about other biases. Findings: Included studies numbered 29, almost all (n = 27) were pre-post design, two were trials. Information within the included studies to enable replicability was low (average score 3.7/6). Nearly all studies reported significant improvement in outcomes suggesting that the predominant study design (pre-post) is inadequate to assess improvement with low bias, that any and all such training is beneficial, or that publication bias prevented reporting of less successful interventions and thus a informative overview. Conclusion: It seems likely that many possible training formats and methods can lead to improved worker knowledge, skills and / or practice in infection prevention and control. Definitive evidence in favour of any specific training format or method is hard to demonstrate due to incomplete descriptions, lack of documentation about unsuccessful training, and few least-biased study designs (experimental trials). Our results suggest that there is a significant opportunity to design experiments that could give insights in favour of or against specific training methods. "Sleeping" protocols for randomised controlled trials could be developed and then applied quickly when relevant future events arise, with evaluation for outcomes such as knowledge, practices, skills, confidence, and awareness.

Abstract:BACKGROUND The International Consensus Guidelines (ICG) stratify risk for malignancy in patients with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) into three progressive categories according to whether patients show 'no criteria', 'worrisome features' (WFs) or 'high-risk stigmata' (HRS). OBJECTIVES This study was conducted to test the hypothesis that type (clinical versus radiological) and quantity of ICG WFs and HRS carry unequal weight and are not cumulative in the prediction of risk for malignancy or invasiveness in IPMN. METHODS A retrospective review of a prospectively maintained database of patients who underwent surgical resection for IPMN at a single, university-based medical centre during 1992-2012 was performed. Differences that achieved a P-value of <0.05 were considered significant. RESULTS Of 362 patients, 340 were eligible for entry into the study and were categorized as demonstrating no criteria (n = 70), WFs (n = 185) or HRS (n = 85). Patients in the WFs group had higher rates of malignant and invasive IPMN than those in the no-criteria group [26.5% versus 4.3% (P < 0.0001) and 15.7% versus 4.3% (P = 0.02), respectively]. Patients in the HRS group had higher rates of malignant and invasive IPMN than those in the WFs group [56.5% versus 26.5% (P = 0.0001) and 42.4% versus 15.7% (P = 0.0001), respectively]. When radiological parameters only were considered for WFs versus HRS, no difference was found in rates of malignant or invasive IPMN. By contrast, when clinical parameters only were considered, patients in the HRS group had higher rates of malignant or invasive IPMN [66.7% versus 8.1% (P = 0.04) and 66.7% versus 2.7% (P = 0.01), respectively]. There was no stepwise increase in rates of malignant or invasive IPMN with the number of WFs. However, patients with only one WF had a lower risk for malignancy than patients with two or more WFs. CONCLUSIONS The type and quantity of ICG WFs and HRS carry unequal weight and are not cumulative in the prediction of risk for malignancy or invasiveness in IPMN.
Effectiveness of education in evidence-based healthcare: the current state of outcome assessments and a framework for future evaluations

Abstract:Background A discipline which critically looks at the evidence for practice should itself be critically examined. Credible evidence for the effectiveness of training in evidence-based healthcare (EBHC) is essential. We attempted to summarise the current knowledge on evaluating the effectiveness of training in EBHC while identifying the gaps. Methods A working group of EBHC teachers developed a conceptual framework of key areas of EBHC teaching and practice in need of evidence mapped to appropriate methods and outcomes. A literature search was conducted to review the current state of research in these key areas. Studies of training interventions that evaluated effectiveness by considering learner, patient or health system outcomes in terms of knowledge, skills, attitude, judgement, competence, decision-making, patient satisfaction, quality of life, clinical indicators or cost were included. There was no language restriction. Results Of 55 articles reviewed, 15 met the inclusion criteria: six systematic reviews, three randomised controlled trials and six before-after studies. We found weak indications that undergraduate training in EBHC improves knowledge but not skills, and that clinically integrated postgraduate teaching improves both knowledge and skills. Two randomised controlled trials reported no impact on attitudes or behaviour. One before-after study found a positive impact on decision-making, while another suggested change in learners' behaviour and improved patient outcome. We found no studies assessing the impact of EBHC training on patient satisfaction, health-related quality of life, cost or population-level indicators of health. Conclusions Literature evaluating the effectiveness of training in EBHC has focused on short-term acquisition of knowledge and skills. Evaluation designs were methodologically weak, controlled trials appeared inadequately powered and systematic reviews could not provide conclusive evidence owing to weakness of study designs.

Abstract:Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer death in both men and women in the United States and Americans have a 5% lifetime risk for this malignancy. Most CRCs develop from preexisting adenomatous polyps, which usually take years to progress through an adenomaY carcinoma sequence to CRC. This progression presents the opportunity to prevent CRC by finding and removing adenomas and to detect CRC at an early, curable stage. Multiple screening guidelines have been published, including those by the US Preventive Services Task Force, the American College of Physicians, the American College of Gastroenterology, a joint guideline by the American Cancer Society, the USMultiSociety Task Force on Colorectal Cancer, and the American College of Radiology. There is general agreement that screening should begin at age 50 years in individuals at average risk who are asymptomatic and have no family history of CRC. There is evidence that both the incidence of this disease and its mortality are decreasing and this decrease appears to be primarily the result of increased screening efforts. Despite this evidence, the incidence of CRC in 2012 was estimated to be 143,000 new cases with 51,690 deaths. In this issue of the Southern Medical Journal, Perkins and colleagues report on practices and attitudes toward CRC screening in eligible Alabamians. The major finding of their survey was that only 61% of the participants reported having been screened for CRC, the majority (95%) with colonoscopy. This rate is similar to the estimated nationwide mean screening rate of 58.6% in 2010, which is lower than the screening rate for other common cancers. These low screening rates present the medical community with a major challenge. The issues for physicians are which screening tests to use and how to improve patient compliance rates with screening guidelines. CRC screening tests can be classified into two groups: stool-based tests, including guaiac-based fecal occult blood tests, immunochemical fecal occult blood tests (FIT), and stool DNA panels, and imaging tests, including colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, computed tomography colonography, and air-contrast barium enema. Stool-based tests primarily detect cancer, although they also may detect some advanced adenomas. Imaging procedures have the ability to detect adenomas and carcinomas and thus offer prevention as well as early detection. All positive screening tests require colonoscopy for definitive diagnosis as well as removal of any detected adenomas. FIT, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy are the only screening tests that have been shown to be associated with decreased mortality from CRC. Most guidelines recommend that a menu of options be offered to patients and they and their physicians jointly selecting the best option. This can be a daunting task for both physician and patient because the CRC screening options differ in recommended frequency, accuracy, preparation, discomfort, and cost. In one prospective study, patients who had discussed two or more options for screening were 1.6 times more likely to be confused than those who were offered only one option, and confused patients were 1.8 times more likely to be noncompliant with screening than those who were not confused. Colonoscopy has become the dominant screening modality in the United States as evidenced by the fact that colonoscopy was used as the screening modality in 95% of patients in the Perkins et al study. Abstract:BackgroundMultiply drug-resistant organisms (MDROs) (meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycin-resistant enterococcus, MDR Acinetobacter species, extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Gram-negative organisms), Clostridioides difficile, viral respiratory pathogens and healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are major concerns in medical facilities.AimTo assess Environmental Service Workers' (ESWs) training, workload, surfaces and pieces of medical equipment cleaned per shift, how long they worked on each surface, how they cleaned, supervision, MDRO and HAI status, and measurement of effectiveness in reducing MDROs and HAIs in patients and on surfaces.MethodsCINAHL, Cochrane CENTRAL Register of Controlled Trials, EMBASE, Medline, and Scopus were searched to June 28, 2021 (no language/date limits) for hospitals and acute/long term care facilities; disinfection, decontamination, antisepsis, bleach, cleaning, copper treatment of surfaces/textiles, hydrogen peroxide, quaternary ammonium compounds, ultra-violet rays, antimicrobial-treated surfaces and RCTs.Findings and ConclusionsFourteen c-RCTs provided data on a series of interventions. Ten trials focused on reducing patient infections from MDROs/HAIs and four found significant reductions in patient infection rates with strategies including bleach, quaternary ammonium detergents, ultraviolet lights and hydrogen peroxide vapour. We found minimal information was provided on ESW numbers, MDRO/HAI status, workload, numbers of surfaces and objects cleaned/shift, and effects of training on improving effectiveness. Our findings would suggest detailed evaluations of effects of training and disinfection activities for individuals and teams of ESWs are needed.

[Effect of improved topical agents on healing time of deep second-degree burn wound].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE With the recognization of the mechanism of wound healing, some topical agents are created and applied in trauma to improve the healing rate of wounds. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of some topical agents on the healing rate of deep second-degree burn wounds. METHODS One thousand five hundred and sixty-three patients with deep second-degree burn wounds(total burn surface area < or = 10%) were involved in this study from January 1982 to December 1999. According to the application time of different treating measures including supplement of Zn, application of growth factors and collagenase, the patients were divided into 3 groups, wound healing rates were compared. RESULTS Before 1991, none of special topical agents were used, and the healing time of deep second-degree burn wounds was(23.8 +/- 3.5) days. From 1991 to 1996, with the topical application of SD-Ag-Zn, which can provide Zn for cells taking part in wound healing, the healing time of deep second-degree burn wounds was (20.6 +/- 3.2) days, earlier than no special topical agents (P < 0.05). From 1997 to 1999, growth factors such as basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF) and epithelial growth factor (EGF) and collagenases were applied in wound treatment combining with SD-Ag-Zn, wound healing time was (16.2 +/- 2.8) days, earlier than no special topical agents (P < 0.01) and simple SD-Ag-Zn application (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION It indicates that the improvement of topical agents can accelerate wound healing speed.
Systemic resilience to cross-border infectious disease threat events in Europe

Abstract:Recurrent health emergencies threaten global health security. International Health Regulations (IHR) aim to prevent, detect and respond to such threats, through increase in national public health core capacities, but whether IHR core capacity implementation is necessary and sufficient has been contested. With a longitudinal study we relate changes in national IHR core capacities to changes in cross-border infectious disease threat events (IDTE) between 2010 and 2016, collected through epidemic intelligence at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). By combining all IHR core capacities into one composite measure we found that a 10% increase in the mean of this composite IHR core capacity to be associated with a 19% decrease (p = 0.017) in the incidence of cross-border IDTE in the EU. With respect to specific IHR core capacities, an individual increase in national legislation, policy & financing; coordination and communication with relevant sectors; surveillance; response; preparedness; risk communication; human resource capacity; or laboratory capacity was associated with a significant decrease in cross-border IDTE incidence. In contrast, our analysis showed that IHR core capacities relating to point-of-entry, zoonotic events or food safety were not associated with IDTE in the EU. Due to high internal correlations between core capacities, we conducted a principal component analysis which confirmed a 20% decrease in risk of IDTE for every 10% increase in the core capacity score (95% CI: 0.73, 0.88). Globally (EU excluded), a 10% increase in the mean of all IHR core capacities combined was associated with a 14% decrease (p = 0.077) in cross-border IDTE incidence. We provide quantitative evidence that improvements in IHR core capacities at country-level are associated with fewer cross-border IDTE in the EU, which may also hold true for other parts of the world.

Abstract:Travel and trade, whilst playing a critical role in economic development, contribute to the spread of infectious diseases, including novel or emerging diseases, which can threaten health security locally, regionally and globally. The World Health Organization mandates preparedness through field simulation exercises to address infectious disease outbreaks, as highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This study assessed the impact of the 2019 Namanga field simulation exercise, conducted in the border town shared by Kenya and Tanzania, on improving cross-border outbreak preparedness and response. It focused on participants' knowledge, skills acquisition and real-world application. An anonymous online survey was administered to participants 37 months post-field simulation exercise. In addition, key informant interviews and a focus group discussion with the Joint Border Management Committee in Namanga were conducted. The June 2019 field simulation exercise enhanced the skills, knowledge, and confidence of participants, including members of the border community, in preparing for and responding to outbreaks including COVID-19. The skills and knowledge gained were deemed valuable, relevant, and effective for use in future response activities. The analysis is limited by potential response bias, as only participants with positive experiences of the field simulation exercise may have responded more favourably. Addressing the limitations of design and implementation of the field simulation exercise and the challenges of cross-border response identified in this study are critical to optimising future responses.

International promotion of e-Bug, an infection prevention and control educational intervention: survey of partners across 14 countries

Abstract:Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global threat to public health. e-Bug is an educational resource developed and promoted by a network of international partners. e-Bug seeks to reduce the spread of infection and use of antimicrobials in young people and the community, so helping to control AMR. This study aimed to explore how e-Bug is promoted by international partners and observe barriers to promotion, including the extent of education about antibiotics in schools. Methods: A total of 29 e-Bug partners were invited to complete online questionnaires on (i) methods they use to promote e-Bug; and (ii) antibiotic topics covered in the national curriculum in their countries. Results: Fourteen and 15 of 29 e-Bug partners across Europe and Palestine completed the promotional activities and curriculum questionnaires respectively. The most frequently reported methods of promotion included endorsement and collaboration with government and non-government sectors and involvement in national and global health awareness campaigns. Barriers to promotion included a lack of time and funding. The curriculum survey data showed variation in antibiotic education across Europe and Palestine, lack of antibiotic education for children under 11 years of age and little change in antibiotic topics included in the curriculum since 2006. Conclusions: Future and existing e-Bug partners should be encouraged to follow promotional activities reported in this paper, including ministry endorsement, educator training, international campaigns and youth programmes. We encourage all countries to increase antibiotic topics in the school curriculum across all ages.

Abstract:Reforming Ukrainian higher medical education is imperative, not only to address issues related to the recognition of Ukrainian diplomas abroad and to enhance the competitiveness of Ukrainian medical institutions and their graduates on the European and global job markets, but also to elevate the efficiency and quality of education. Furthermore, the recent full-scale invasion has resulted in the loss of a significant potential in medical universities across the southeastern region of Ukraine. Amidst the ongoing reform of the Ukrainian higher education system, all institutions are transitioning towards a competency-based approach. This approach aims to cultivate and foster specific types and subtypes of competencies in students by ensuring comprehensive assimilation of essential knowledge and practical methodologies. The training of highly skilled medical professionals encompasses multidisciplinary education, extending beyond therapy to encompass knowledge spanning over two dozen specialties. Of utmost importance is the ability to diagnose and treat patients with acute and chronic therapeutic and surgical conditions, as well as to provide urgent medical assistance. The epidemiological landscape concerning numerous infectious diseases in various countries remains volatile. Incidences of viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, influenza, SARS, AIDS, Lyme borreliosis, among others, continue to rise in Ukraine and neighboring regions. A completely new challenge for the world community is the outbreak of Ebola fever in West Africa, monkeypox and its spread around the world. The appearance of pathogens of infectious diseases resistant to previously developed effective drugs is a cause for concern. Nowadays, the global crisis precipitated by the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, underscores the urgency for education on emerging and re-emerging infections. Given these challenges, the qualification level of future specialists in infectious diseases and epidemiology assumes paramount importance. These professionals must be equipped to organize and deliver medical care under adverse conditions such as war, pandemics, shortages of medical personnel and medications, and a dearth of theoretical and practical knowledge, especially in the face of new infections. To facilitate optimal learning amidst such crises, a phased approach is proposed that includes centralized distance education, methodological support, and practical skill acquisition. By implementing these measures, the assimilation of material and the quality of education can be enhanced for those seeking education during times of crisis.
Reasons for and barriers to biosafety and biosecurity training in health-related organizations in Africa, Middle East and Central Asia: findings from GIBACHT training needs assessments 2018-2019

Abstract:INTRODUCTION: the Global-Partnership-Initiated-Biosecurity-Academia for Controlling Health Threats (GIBACHT) consortium conducts a biosafety and biosecurity training for fellows from Africa, the Middle East and Asia. To achieve a multiplier effect, fellows conduct trainings in their own organizations. It was during such trainings that training needs assessments were done assessing reasons for and barriers to biosafety and biosecurity training.METHODS: this was a cross sectional assessment. Trainings were conducted from April to July 2018 and April to June 2019. In 2018, training needs were explored using a structured tool. Responses were coded using manifest content analysis and key issues identified. In 2019, respondents quantified the identified key issues using a Likert scale. Proportions of those who strongly agreed, agreed, neither agreed nor disagreed, disagreed or strongly disagreed were calculated and results presented in tables and charts.RESULTS: in 2018 and 2019, there were 183 and 191 respondents respectively. About 96% of respondents in 2018 supported training in biosafety and biosecurity citing individual, community and global benefits. Barriers highlighted included governance, financial, human resource, information and infrastructure challenges. In 2019, majority of respondents indicated inadequate guidelines dissemination, lack of financial resources, inadequate personnel, lack of equipped laboratories and lack of instructional materials among major barriers.CONCLUSION: support for biosafety and biosecurity training was high though systemic barriers exist. Improving human resource capacity and provision of instructional materials can be achieved through training programs. However, systemic assessments need to be done before each training as different organizations have different barriers.

Abstract:The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of local evidence ecosystems in which academia and practice in the Public Health Service (PHS) are interconnected. However, appropriate organizational structures and well-trained staff are lacking and evidence use in local public health decision-making has to be integrated into training programs in Germany. To address this issue, we developed a framework incorporating a toolbox to conceptualize training programs designed to qualify public health professionals for working at the interface between academia and practice. We conducted a scoping review of training programs, key-informant interviews with public health experts, and a multi-professional stakeholder workshop and triangulated their output. The resulting toolbox consists of four core elements, encompassing 15 parameters: (1) content-related aspects, (2) context-related aspects, (3) aspects relevant for determining the training format, and (4) aspects relevant for consolidation and further development. Guiding questions with examples supports the application of the toolbox. Additionally, we introduced a how-to-use guidance to streamline the creation of new training programs, fostering knowledge transfer at the academia-practice interface, equipping public health researchers and practitioners with relevant skills for needs-based PHS research. By promoting collaborative training development across institutions, our approach encourages cross-institutional cooperation, enhances evidence utilization, and enables efficient resource allocation. Abstract:OBJECTIVES: This paper review trends in emerging infections and the need for increased clinical and laboratory surveillance.METHODS: Factors that contributed to the emergence of recent outbreaks have been reviewed. Known, major outbreaks over the past two decades were reviewed.RESULTS: We identified at least four major drivers of emergent infections: (i) increasing density of the human population; (ii) stress from farmland expansion on the environment; (iii) globalization of the food market and manufacturing; (iv) environmental contamination. The factors creating new opportunities for emerging infections include: (i) population growth; (ii) spread in health care facilities; (iii) an ageing population; (iv) international travel; (v) changing and expanding vector habitats.CONCLUSIONS: Emerging infections are unpredictable. In this review we argue that to discover new trends in infectious diseases, the clinicians have to look for the unusual and unexpected and ensure proper diagnostics and that syndromic surveillance must be supported by highly specialized laboratory services. Mathematical modeling has not been able to predict outbreaks More emphasis on the biology of evolution is needed. EID rarely stands out as unusual, and the continuous pressure on health care budgets forces clinicians and laboratories to prioritize their diagnostic work-up to common and treatable conditions. The European Society for Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology, ESCMID, has established an Emerging Infections Task Force, EITaF, to strengthen the activities of the society on emerging infections and ensure that emerging infections is included in differential diagnostic considerations in everyday clinical practice.

Abstract:Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major global health threat caused by the inappropriate use of antimicrobials in healthcare and other settings. Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) is a broad multi-component health services intervention that promotes and monitors the judicious use of antimicrobials to preserve their future effectiveness. A main component of AMS is education and training (E&T). However, there are often discrepancies in how such interventions are implemented and delivered in hospital-based care. The aim of this study was to explore the factors influencing the implementation of AMS E&T in UK hospitals. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were carried out with AMS E&T trainers in UK hospitals. The interview schedule was developed using the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation = Behaviour (COM-B) model. Participants were identified via professional networks and social media. Interviews were analysed using inductive thematic analysis, followed by deductive analysis using the COM-B model as a framework. Results: A total of 34 participants (26 antimicrobial pharmacists, 3 nurses, 1 advanced clinical practitioner, 2 infectious disease consultants, 1 microbiologist and 1 clinical scientist). responsible for designing, implementing and evaluating AMS E&T in UK hospitals (five from Northern Ireland, four from Wales, two from Scotland and 23 from England) took part in virtual interviews. Key themes were: (1) The organisational context, including system-level barriers to AMS included competing organisational targets (Reflective motivation and physical opportunity) and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on activity (Physical opportunity); (2) Healthcare professionals' roles and the wider multi-disciplinary team, such that AMS roles were defined and addressed poorly in E&T (Social opportunity); and (3) The individual perception of the need for AMS E&T in hospital-based care, manifest in a perceived lack of conviction of the wider threat of AMR and the resulting need for AMS E&T (Reflective motivation). Conclusion: This study has identified factors influencing implementation of AMS E&T in UK hospitals and further identified where implemented, AMS E&T did not address real-world challenges. Current AMS E&T needs to be optimised to elicit practice change, with recommendations including training and engaging the wider work-force and drawing upon theoretically-informed intervention development frameworks to inform AMS E&T to better target AMS behaviour change.

Abstract:Background: Ground crossing borders are considered a threat to health security due to their complex and challenging environments. The objective of this scoping review is to identify the main themes crucial for implementing effective health management at ground crossing borders to maintain health security. Methods: This scoping study was conducted following the methodological framework developed by Arksey and O'Malley and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). Documents published from January 2005 to December 2023 were searched for using PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and UN databases. Two reviewers screened and reviewed eligible studies in three stages: duplicate identification and elimination, title and abstract screening, and full-text assessment. Data were charted and grouped into themes, the frequency of each theme and its percentage was calculated, and then thematic analysis was conducted. Results: Forty-five studies met the inclusion criteria. Areas of research were grouped into eight themes: "Infection Prevention and Control measures (IPC) (17%)", "Collaboration, Coordination, and Partnership (17%)", "Research and Data Sharing (15%)", "Build Border Health Capacity (13.5%)", "Planning (13.5%)", "Communication (13%)", "Legislations and Frameworks (7%)", and "Services and Assistance for At-Risk Groups (4%)". Through this scoping review, we found that the eight themes are interconnected, and are crucial for implementing effective health management at the ground crossing borders and for better emergency preparedness responses among countries.

Abstract:To control human‐to‐human mpox transmission during the 2022 outbreak, European Union (EU)/European Economic Area (EEA) countries conducted case investigation and contact tracing (CT). We aimed to provide an overview of CT activities, describe CT data collection practices, and identify related facilitators, barriers, and potential opportunities for improvement. Between April 03, 2023 and May 12, 2023, a survey was distributed to CT stakeholders in 30 EU/EEA countries, asking about mpox CT activities and data collection and requesting to rank enablers, barriers, and improvements for CT on a five‐point Likert scale. The 139 respondents from 27 countries indicated having performed case investigations (96%, n = 133), backward CT (88%, n = 122), forward CT (87%, n = 121), and follow‐up on contacts' outcomes (77%, n = 107). Sixty percent (n = 80/134) used standardized data collection forms and 73% (n = 91/124) used databases. The highest‐rated enablers were clear guidelines (mean = 3.9), quick access to laboratory results (3.6), and sufficient expertise (3.6). Highly rated barriers were inability to contact contacts (3.0) or cases (2.5) and lack of staff (2.4). The most needed improvements were availability of staff (3.5), expertise on affected populations (3.4) and data reporting tools and systems (3.3). To improve CT of mpox and diseases with similar transmission patterns, EU/EEA countries should increase workforce capacity in public and sexual health, offer training on CT operations and communication with affected communities, and use common CT data collection tools and systems.
