Abstract:How rural households adapt to carbon neutrality during the rural revitalization strategy can significantly impact climate policy effectiveness and China's climate targets. This study establishes different rural energy optimization scenarios for 2030, 2050, and 2060 using life cycle assessment and energy structure optimization. It explores the environmental impacts of rural households' adaptation to carbon neutrality and energy consumption within the rural revitalization strategy and proposes a rural revitalization sustainability index to measure the level of rural revitalization. We find that implementing rural revitalization strategy significantly reduces household carbon emissions and aids in adapting to carbon neutrality. Compared to 2016 (803 million tons CO 2 eq), household energy carbon emissions are projected to decrease by 488.00 million tons CO 2 eq in 2030, 741.55 million tons CO 2 eq in 2050, and 775.90 million tons CO 2 eq in 2060. Additionally, the total environmental impact in 2030, 2050, and 2060 is expected to reduce by 3.92 × 10 8 Pt, 5.01 × 10 8 Pt, and 5.15 × 10 8 Pt compared to 2016 (5.37 × 10 8 Pt). The carbon emission intensity of rural households' per capita disposable income will drop by 0.21 kg/yuan in 2030 and by 0.25 kg/yuan in both 2050 and 2060. Furthermore, under the implementation of the rural strategy, rural carbon emissions can be offset by carbon sinks by 2050 and 2060. The rural revitalization sustainability index reaches its highest levels in 2050 and 2060, at 0.08 and 0.09, respectively. This study provides a scientific basis for understanding the policy effects of the rural revitalization strategy.
