Abstract:PURPOSE:The goal of this study is to compare the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of the preemptive indwelling of double-J stents (PI-DJS) versus the conventional preemptive indwelling of ureteral catheters (PI-UC) in percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) via a randomized, controlled clinical study. MATERIALS AND METHODS:A total of 75 patients with complex renal calculi underwent PCNL surgery and were randomized, using random number table, to receive either a PI-DJS (37 cases) or a PI-UC (38 cases). All operations were performed by the same experienced surgeon. Several outcomes were measured, including duration of operation, time to establish passage, level of hemoglobin decline, rate of stone clearance and incidence of complications. RESULTS:Guided by B-ultrasound, percutaneous passages were successfully established in all patients who then underwent one-stage PCNL. The time required to establish a passage using a PI-DJS was 7.5min, whereas that of the group who received a PI-UC was 11.5min (P < 0.01). There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of operation duration, postoperative Hb decline rate, stone clearance rate, and perioperative complication incidences (all P > 0.05). CONCLUSION:PI-DJS during PCNL allowed for a reliable and stable reflux from the bladder into the renal pelvis to produce an artificial hydronephrosis without the formation of microbubbles, unlike conventional ureteral catheters.
A Comparative Study to Analyze the Efficacy and Safety of Flexible Ureteroscopy Combined with Holmium Laser Lithotripsy for Residual Calculi after Percutaneous Nephrolithotripsy

Abstract:A certain proportion of patients with initial Percutaneous nephrolithotripsy (PCNL) management require ancillary procedures to increase the stone-free rate. In this study, we aim to analyze the efficacy and safety of flexible ureteroscopy combined with holmium laser lithotripsy (F-UL) for treatment of residual calculi after PCNL by comparison with extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (SWL). Total of 96 patients with residual renal calculi (4 mm to 20 mm) after PCNL was enrolled from May 2010 to March 2013. They were randomly divided into two groups: US Group: patients were treated with F-UL; SWL Group: patients were treated with SWL. Follow-up was made one month and three months after treatment. The mean residual stone size after PCNL was 12.4 ± 4.3 mm in US group compared with 11.9 ± 4.5 in SWL group. The stone-free rate was 84.7% one month after surgical procedure in US group, this rate increased to 91.3% in the third months, while the stone-free rate in SWL group is 64.6% one month after treatment and 72.9% in the third month. For residual stone in lower calyx, the stone-free rate three month after treatment was 90.4% in US group compared to 65.2% in SWL group (P < 0.05). The overall complication rate was low in both groups, no severe complication was found. Both F-UL and SWL are safe and effective methods for residual calculi after PCNL, without severe complications. F-UL provided significantly higher stone-free rate compared with SWL, especially for low-pole calculi.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:Contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is an innovative technique that employs microbubble contrast agents to demonstrate parenchymal perfusion. Ultrasound contrast agent was reported to be directly used in human internal lumen to improve the observation capacity of ultrasound. However, CEUS has never been reported to be used in the guidance of percutaneous renal access in percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). This study aimed to assess the efficacy of CEUS-guided renal access in PCNL.METHODS:In this retrospective study, percutaneous renal access was performed under real-time monitoring of CEUS during PCNL in a cohort of 20 patients with renal stones at Peking University First Hospital. Data regarding patients' demographic and clinical characteristics, therapeutic regimens, and postoperative information were collected from a comprehensive database containing comprehensive medical records of the patients undergoing PCNL. Briefly, the procedure was as follows. With the patient under general anesthesia, renal access was established by the guidance of CEUS. Afterwords, holmium laser, pneumatic or ultrasonic lithotripsy was used by the same urologist. The patient demographics, stone characteristics and procedure details were noted. Finally, appropriate statistical analyses were performed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the CEUS-guided percutaneous renal access in PCNL.RESULTS:All the 20 patients underwent PCNL successfully with the help of CEUS guidance for tract creation. The collecting system was successfully accessed in all the patients, and only one patient underwent re-puncture. All the patients approached through a middle-pole percutaneous access. The median puncture time was 3.9 (2.9-4.6) min, and the median operating time was 112 (98.5-134.5) min. The preliminary stone-free rate of PCNL was 95.0% (19/20) as shown by the kidney, ureter, and bladder (KUB) radiographs 48 h postoperation, and the median decline in hemoglobin level was 10 (5.5-14.5) g/L. Two patients had transient postoperative fever and responded well to antibiotics. In addition, no other major complications were observed.CONCLUSION:CEUS is a safe and effective alternative way of guidance for percuta-neous renal access for PCNL beginners. It makes this procedure more visualized and simpler, and produces clearer images than common ultrasonic ones. PCNL beginners might benefit from this method to shorten the learning curve of PCNL, while it warrants further comparative studies to clarify.
Comparison of contrast-enhanced ultrasound versus conventional ultrasound-guided percutaneous nephrolithotomy in patients with nondilated collecting system: a randomized controlled trial

Abstract:ObjectiveTo compare the safety, effectiveness, and feasibility of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) versus conventional ultrasound-guided percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) in patients with nondilated collecting system.MethodsBetween July 2018 and July 2020, 160 kidney stone patients with nondilated collecting system planned for PCNL were randomly assigned into two groups, CEUS with retrograde ureteral contrast injection and conventional ultrasound with retrograde ureteral normal saline injection. Patient’s demographics, the success rate of puncture, success rate of a single-needle puncture, number of punctures, puncture time, perioperative outcomes, stone-free rate, and incidence of complications were compared.ResultsThe success rate of a single-needle puncture for CEUS-guided PCNL was higher than that in the conventional ultrasound group (88.5% vs. 73.7%, p = 0.02). Patients performed with CEUS-guided PCNL required less needle passes (p = 0.02), shorter needle puncture time (p = 0.031), and shorter channel establishment time (p = 0.04) than those guided with conventional ultrasound. The postoperative hemoglobin decrease in the CEUS-guided PCNL group was less than that of the control group (p = 0.02). There was no significant difference in operating time, length of hospital stays, kidney function change, and complications between the two groups (p > 0.05). Initial Experience with Computed Tomography-Ultrasound Image Fusion Guided Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (CT-US PCNL)

Abstract:Objective To explore the safety and efficacy of fusion imaging technique and traditional ultrasound guidance in percutaneous nephrolithotomy,and to compare the difference of two methods for PCNL.Methods Patients with renal calculus,who underwent percutaneous nephrolithotomy from January 2016 to August 2016,were enrolled in the study.The patients were randomly divided into two groups by SAS software.The control group was treated with traditional ultrasound guided puncture technique (Ultrasound group).Experimental group was treated with fusion imaging method (CT-US group).Preoperative patient CT image data was uploaded to the image fusion ultrasound machine for data synchronization.Both groups used the same way to establish a standard channel (F24).Lithoclast system from EMS was used to remove stones.Intraoperative parameters (time to define the target calyx,access establishment time,operative duration) and postoperative perioperative data (estimated blood loss,stone-free rate,severe complications) were compared between the two groups.Results 65 cases of patients were enrolled into the study.There was no significant difference in age (P =0.72),body mass index (P =0.78),stone size (P =0.53) and so on.Compared with the control group,the time duration to define the target calyx in CT-US group is significantly decreased in experiment group(50.4 ± 18.1) s vs.(82.1 ± 37.7) s,(P =0.02).The time to establish the access and fulfill the procedure shows no significant difference between the two groups,respectvely(P =0.45,0.61).Also,significant differences can be found in the hemoglobin loss during and after the surgery(1.1 ± 0.5) g/L vs.(1.4 ± 0.4) g/L (P =0.04).The difference in severe complications (Clavien Ⅲ and above),stone-free rate (P =0.60) and transfusion rate (P =1.00) was not significant.Conclusions Our primary study shows CT-altrasound image fusion guide PCNL is a safe and reliable technology.The time duration to define the target calyx was decreased compared with traditional US guidance method.The target calyx chosen was more accurate,with lower blood loss during the perioperative period.
Ultrasound Guidance Reduces Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy Cost Compared to Fluoroscopy

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: To examine the cost factors associated with ultrasound and fluoroscopic guidance for percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) and to determine which method can be performed at a lower cost per case.METHODS: A cost comparison study was performed utilizing clinical data from a prospectively maintained research database. We included the most recent 33 consecutive ultrasound-guided PCNL cases in 2016 and the most recent 40 consecutive fluoroscopy-guided PCNL cases before the operative surgeon transitioned to ultrasound guidance in May 2014. The total operative time and clinical outcomes were examined. Costs were extracted from the institution accounting systems and given a uniform multiplier to protect institutional financial reporting confidentiality. Comparisons were made using the Student t test and the chi-squared test.RESULTS: After excluding outliers, 71 PCNL procedures were included in the analysis. Demographic data and stone characteristics were not different between ultrasound-guided and fluoroscopy-guided groups. However, the mean operative time for ultrasound-guided PCNL was significantly shorter (99.8 ± 27.0 vs 144.9 ± 55.1 minutes, P < .05). When capital equipment costs were included, the mean total cost per case of ultrasound-guided PCNL was approximately 30% less than fluoroscopy-guided PCNL (simulated costs with a uniform multiplier; $5258.90 ± 957.12 vs $7508.60 ± 1163.83, P < .05). Postoperative clinical outcomes were comparable between the 2 groups.CONCLUSION: When capital costs are included, ultrasound-guided PCNL can produce comparable clinical outcomes to fluoroscopy-guided procedures at a lower cost to the institution. Shorter operative time drives significant savings with the adoption of ultrasound guidance, which may be magnified with increasing case volume. Using ultrasound imaging during PCNL may be more cost-effective compared to fluoroscopy and warrants further study.

Abstract:This study was designed to evaluate the non-inferiority of ultrasound puncture followed by endoscopically guided tract dilatation compared to the standard fluoroscopy-guided PCNL. Forty patients with non-opaque kidney stones eligible for PCNL were randomly divided into two groups. The standard fluoroscopy-guided PCNL using the Amplatz dilator was performed in the XRAY group. In the SONO group, the Kidney was punctured under an ultrasound guide followed by tract dilatation using a combination of the Amplatz dilator based on the tract length and an endoscopically guided tract dilatation using a bi-prong forceps in cases of short-advancement. The primary outcome was successful access. In 90% of cases in the XRAY and 95% in the SONO group access dilatation process was performed uneventfully at the first attempt ( p = 0.5). In 45% of cases in the SONO group, bi-prong forceps were used as salvage for short-advancement. In one case in the X-ray group over-advancement occurred. One month after surgery, the stone-free rate on the CT-scan was 75% for the X-ray group and 85% for the SONO group ( p = 0.4). There were no significant differences in operation time, hospitalization duration, transfusion, or complication rates between the two groups. We conclude that ultrasound-guided renal puncture, followed by endoscopically guided tract dilatation can achieve a high success rate similar to X-ray-guided PCNL while avoiding the harmful effects of radiation exposure and the risk of over-advancement.

Abstract:We examine the publicly available OpenCellID database for the purpose of estimating the position of mobile devices along with the positioning accuracy in any given geographic region. We present a method coping with typical distortions and artifacts in the data to compute robust estimates of cell positions and localization error distributions. Applying the method to analyze different regions and mobile networks reveals that the localization errors follow a fat-tailed distribution with similar shapes and properties. We experimentally validate the approach using an independent set of GPS and cell ID data collected by 250 individuals over a period of several weeks. The localization error estimated from OpenCellID data agrees well with the experimental error distribution. While there are significant differences between urban and rural areas, we show that there is only a weak correlation between antenna density and empirical localization errors.
Benefit of contrast enhanced ultrasound for detection of ischaemic lesions and arterio venous fistulas in renal transplants - a feasibility study

Abstract:Purpose: To evaluate the benefit of CEUS (contrast enhanced ultrasound) regarding depiction of ischaemic lesions and AVFs (arterio venous fistula) in renal transplants compared to standard ultrasound (US) (grey-scale and color Doppler). Materials and methods: In this study 22 patients suspected of having acute vascular complication after renal transplantation were investigated using standard ultrasound (grey-scale US and color Doppler US) and CEUS, respectively. Validity of the respective US-techniques regarding depiction of ischaemic lesions and AVF was compared. Dynamic CTA (computed tomography angiography) served as the standard of reference. Results: In 10 renal transplants arterial embolism associated with kidney infarctions were observed. Very good correlation to dynamic CTA was yielded using CEUS, whereas grey scale US and color Doppler US was limited in the accurate depiction of renal infarctions. Additionally CEUS was superior in displaying arteriovenous fistulas compared to standard US. Conclusion: CEUS as a fast and bedside available imaging modality not associated with dose exposure or renal toxicity facilitates improved detection of ischaemic lesions and AVFs compared to standard US and thus should be considered for short term follow up of renal transplants.

Abstract:Objectives To evaluate the impact of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) during percutaneous radiofrequency ablation (PRFA) procedure in renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Methods From January 2008 to July 2010, 73 patients with sporadic unilateral RCC were enrolled to our study (57 men and 16 women, age range: 37–78 years, mean age 57.9 years). The diameter of the tumor was 1.7–5.8, 3.4 cm on average. The patients were divided into two groups depending on the intraoperative ultrasonography type: CEUS group and conventional ultrasound group. Patients in CEUS group received CEUS before insertion of the electrode, and the second CEUS was performed right after the initial ablation to dynamically evaluate the images. If there was highly suspicious residue, additional ablation and repeated CEUS were applied. Patients in the conventional ultrasound group received PRFA guided by gray-scale ultrasound. All of these patients received contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) examination 7 days after the procedure (patients in CEUS group received CEUS conducted with each CT scan), with subsequent CT and CEUS assessment at 3, 6, and every 6 months thereafter. Results The mean follow-up period was 22 months (range: 12–42 months). All tumors were biopsied before RFA. The local tumor control rate was 94.6% (35/37) in the CEUS group and 86.1% (31/36) in the conventional ultrasound group ( P < 0.05); the cancer-specific survival rate and the overall survival rate were 100%. The post-RFA (12 months) mean GFR levels were 84.7 ± 27.5 mL/min/1.73 m 2 ( P > 0.05, compared with pre-GFR: 86.4 ± 26.2 mL/min/1.73 m 2 ) in the CEUS group and 81.9 ± 22.8 mL/min/1.73 m 2 ( P > 0.05, compared with pre-GFR: 83.5 ± 23.7 mL/min/1.73 m 2 ) in the conventional ultrasound group. Conclusion Intraoperative CEUS can “real-time” monitor the ablated area during PRFA procedure. This technique can help to achieve a higher success rate compared with conventional ultrasound. No impact of intraoperative CEUS has been found on GFR level.

Abstract:Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is distinguished from CT and MRI by the use of microbubble ultrasound contrast agents (UCAs) with intravascular blood pool distribution. When performing CEUS, low-intensity ultrasound allows real-time tissue subtraction imaging, whereas high-intensity ultrasound leads to microbubble destruction, enabling visualization of the contrast inflow pattern. CEUS has exceptional contrast resolution that enables the detection of even minimal blood flow, achieving very high NPV for ruling out vascular perfusion and providing high frame rates in the evaluation of tissue perfusion dynamics. UCAs undergo hepatic metabolism and pulmonary clearance, ensuring safety in patients with renal impairment. CEUS excels in distinguishing solid from cystic renal masses, with higher sensitivity than CT or MRI for detection of lesion enhancement. CEUS can aid the further characterization of both solid and cystic lesions and may have particular applications in the surveillance of cystic masses and surveillance after renal cell carcinoma ablation. This review describes the use of CEUS to help characterize indeterminate renal masses, based on the authors' institutional experience. The article highlights key differences between CEUS and CT or MRI, and provides practical insights for performing and interpreting CEUS of renal masses.

Application of CTU-Assisted Doppler Ultrasound Puncture in Nontube Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy, Its Effect on Patients' Complications, and Its Clinical Value

Abstract:Objective: To research the application of CTU-assisted Doppler ultrasound puncture in uncatheterized PCNL, its influence on patients' complications, and its clinical value in a case-control study. Methods: One hundred and forty-four patients who went through percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) from March 2019 to June 2021 in our hospital were arbitrarily assigned into the CTU group (n = 72) and CT plain scan group (n = 72). CTA+CTU was adopted to determine the puncture passage in the CTU group, and CT scan was employed in the CT group. The intraoperative blood loss, postoperative blood loss, operation time, hospital stay, primary stone removal rate, and the incidence of intraoperative and postoperative complications were compared. The visual analogue score (VAS) was employed to assess the degree of postoperative wound pain. Results: The first-stage stone removal rate in the CTU group was 95.83% (69/72), which was remarkably higher compared to the CT plain scan group, which was 81.94% (59/72), and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). The overall rates of intraoperative complications were 6.94% (5/72) in the CTU group and 18.06% (13/72) in the CT plain scan group, respectively, which exhibited great differences (P < 0.05). In addition, the overall rates of intraoperative complications were 2.78% (2/72) in the CTU and 13.89% (10/72) in the CT plain scan group, respectively, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). The operation time and postoperative hospital stays in the CTU group were remarkably shorter compared to the CT group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). The intraoperative and postoperative blood loss of CTU group displayed obvious less than that of the CT group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). The VAS were compared 24 hours after surgery. After operation, the VAS of 24 hours after operation in the CTU group (0.92 ± 0.12) were remarkably lower compared to the CT group (1.22 ± 0.15), and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Discussion. PCNL is constantly being optimized by CTU-assisted Doppler ultrasound puncture to improve stone clearance rates, reduce postoperative bleeding, be less painful, provide rapid recovery, and provide safe and feasible results. It is therefore worthwhile to standardize and then widely promote it in clinical practice.

Their stone position: Single side 368 patients and bilaterial 40 patients. Simple kidney stones: 312 patients, combined ureteral and kidney 42 patients, and simple ureteral stones 54 patients. Stone burden: staghorn stone: 95 patients. All the patients were followed up for 1 week post-operation. The data were collected and analyzed with regard to stone burden, postoperative stone clearance rate, operation time, occurrence rate of adverse events.RESULTS:The postoperative stone-free rate was 91.2% and the residual stone rate 8.8%; The mean operation time was (90.5±68.0) min; There were 6 patients (1.5%) who received selective renal artery embolism because of bleeding after operation. One patient had severe urinary infection and no other severe complications happened.CONCLUSION:CQS-01 ultrasonic and pneumatic lithotriptor is safe and effective in PNL, and suitable for clinical application.
Fetal omphalocele detected early in pregnancy: associated anomalies and outcomes.

Abstract:PURPOSE To detect omphalocele and associated anomalies at ultrasonography (US) early in pregnancy and to describe the outcomes in fetuses with isolated and nonisolated omphalocele. MATERIAL AND METHODS Fetal endovaginal US was performed in 43,896 pregnant women at 12-16 weeks gestation. The women found to have fetal omphalocele were offered an amniocentesis to determine the fetal karyotype. For parents who decided to continue the pregnancy, repeat targeted transabdominal fetal US was performed at 20-24 weeks gestation. Additional follow-up US examinations performed until delivery were recommended. Postnatal pediatric examinations were performed in all of these fetuses. For the pregnancies in which no anomaly was detected at early US, the women were advised to undergo repeat US at about 24 weeks gestation for the detection of late-manifesting fetal anomalies. For pregnancies in which the baby was not delivered at the authors' affiliated hospital, the woman, her obstetrician, and her pediatrician were asked to inform the authors of any detected anomaly. RESULTS Omphalocele was visualized at US in 38 fetuses, who were categorized into two groups. One group consisted of 22 (58%) fetuses with associated structural anomalies. According to the karyotype determined for 18 of these fetuses, 11 of them also had chromosomal anomalies. The pregnancy was terminated at the parents' request in 19 of these 22 cases. There were two cases of missed abortion, and a small omphalocele in one fetus disappeared at 21 weeks gestation. The second group consisted of 16 (42%) fetuses with a normal karyotype and an omphalocele as an isolated US finding. In eight of these fetuses, the omphalocele disappeared at 20-24 weeks gestation and no defect was seen at delivery. In six other fetuses, omphalocele was identified at delivery. There was one case each of missed abortion and pregnancy termination. There were no false-negative diagnoses of omphalocele. CONCLUSION Isolated omphalocele diagnosed during the early stages of gestation typically has a good prognosis. In cases of a small defect, the anomaly may disappear later in the pregnancy.
Microultrasonic Probe Combined with Ultrasound-Guided Minipercutaneous Nephrolithotomy in the Treatment of Upper Ureteral and Renal Stones: A Consecutive Cohort Study

Abstract:Objectives: We conduct a study to assess the outcome of microultrasonic probe combined with ultrasound (US)-guided minipercutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) for upper ureteral and renal stones. Patients and Methods: Data of 119 patients (123 kidney units) who underwent microultrasonic lithotripsy combined with mini-PCNL were retrospectively reviewed. The group included 96 men and 23 women. All procedure of puncture and dilatation were guided by US solely. Data were analyzed by SPSS. Results: The mean operation time was 32.6 minutes (range, 10-110 minutes). The mean time of lithotripsy and stone removal was 14.5 minutes (3-100 minutes). The mean postoperative length of stay was 2.7 days (1-7 days). Besides, stone-free rate (SFR) at discharge was 95.9% (118/123). The mean hemoglobin drop was 11.6 mg/dL (range 1-26 mg/dL). Grades I, II, and IIIa complications were observed in four, one, and one patients, respectively. Subgroup analysis was done to compare the outcomes of 20 mm or less vs 21 mm or more calculi. There was a longer operation duration (40 vs 29 minutes) and lower SFR in the 21 mm or more calculi subgroup. Conclusions: Microultrasonic probe combined with US-guided mini-PCNL is an effective and safe procedure to treat patients with upper ureteral and renal stones with higher SFR but lower complications.
Efficacy and Safety of Ultrasonography-Guided Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy via Supracostal Approach

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of ultrasonography-guided percutaneous nephrolithotomy(PCNL).Methods Between May 2006 and June 2008,110 patients underwent PCNL by a single urological team at our hospital.The clinical data of the patients were retrospectively reviewed.Of the cases,supracostal access(the 11th intercostal space) was made in 62 patients(supracostal group),and subcostal access was obtained in 48 patients(subcostal group).Forty-five patients in the supracostal group(45/62) and 36 of the subcostal group(36/48) received CT three dimensional reconstruction.Results The stone free rate of the supracostal group was 72.6%(45/62),while that of the subcostal group was 60.4%(29/48;χ2=1.818,P=0.178).The mean operation time of the supracostal group was(78.6±5.1) min,while that of the subcostal group was(102.4±7.1) min(t=-20.454,P=0.000).There was one patient in each group received blood transfusion.One patient in the supracostal group had pneumothorax and recovered uneventfully by conservative treatments.Conclusion Ultrasonography-guided PCNL via the supracostal approach is effective and safe with short operation time.

Abstract:Ultrasound-guided renal access for percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is a safe, effective, and low-cost procedure commonly performed worldwide, but a technique underutilized by urologists in the United States. The purpose of this article is to familiarize the practicing urologist with methods for ultrasound guidance for percutaneous renal access. We discuss two alternative techniques for gaining renal access for PCNL under ultrasound guidance. We also describe a novel technique of using the puncture needle to reposition residual stone fragments to avoid additional tract dilation. With appropriate training, ultrasound-guided renal access for PCNL can lead to reduced radiation exposure, accurate renal access, and excellent stone-free success rates and clinical outcomes.
[Clinical Safety and Efficacy of a Novel Intracorporeal Combined Pneumatic and Ultrasonic Lithotriptor (CQS-01) Compared with Swiss LithoClast Master (EMS-III)].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the safety and efficacy of a new intracorporeal pneumatic and ultrasonic lithotriptor (CQS-01).METHODS:Eighty-six patients with renal or upper ureteral stones suitable for percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) treatment were randomly divided into trial group (treated with CQS-01 device) and control group (treated with EMS-III device), with 43 patients in either group respectively. All the patients were followed up for 7 ± 3 days post-operation. The data were collected and analyzed with regard to stone burden, postoperative stone clearance rate, operation time, stone fragmentation and extraction time, volume of extracted stones, changes of red blood cells (RBC) and hemoglobin (Hb), occurrence rate of transfusion, changes of blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine (Cr), serum electrolytes, white blood cells (WBC), as well as body temperature and adverse events rate at 24 hours and 7 ± 3 days post PNL operation.RESULTS:No significant differences were found between the trial group and the control group (P>0.05), in terms of patients demography, renal characteristics and stone characteristics. In the trial group and the control group, respectively: the postoperative stone-free rate was 76.74% and 79.07% (P=0.796) and the partial stone clearance rate was 23.26% and 20.93% (P=0.796), the operation time was (92.49 ± 76.59) min and (87.28 ± 50.01) min (P=0.485), the stone fragmentation and extraction time was (50.16 ± 57.11) min and (40.59 ± 31.01) min (P=0.976), the volume of extracted stones was (10.85 ± 20.08) mL and (5.05 ± 6.00) mL (P=0.041). There were also no significant differences in postoperative RBC and Hb drops, occurrence rate of transfusion, post-operative BUN and Cr, body temperature changes, postoperative systemic inflammatory response and adverse events rate at 24 hours and 7 ± 3 days post-operation between the trial and control groups (P>0.05).CONCLUSION:There is no significant difference in clinical safety, efficacy, and the stone clearance capability between CQS-01 device and EMS-III device.
