Abstract:Because of the implementation of social distancing measures following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, face-to-face interaction has plummeted, which has resulted in the prolific use of social networking services (SNS) and increased activity in the cyberspace environment. This is especially true for teenagers and young adults with the shift to online classes in the education sector, which has increased the chances of being exposed to cyberbullying. This study attempts to determine a strategy for counteracting cyberbullying in the post-COVID-19 era by identifying the factors that have contributed toward greater aggression by adolescents in South Korea in 2020 when the spread of COVID-19 was at its height. To achieve this, we employed the Cyberbullying Circumstance Analysis dataset from the Korea Communications Commission for the time frame of between 2019 and 2020, with 4779 and 4958 participants, respectively. The causes and effects that led to cyberbullying were investigated using binary logistic regression analysis. By reviewing the research data targeted towards Korean adolescents, our analysis found that the average age of those who engage in cyberbullying decreased in 2020 compared to 2019. In addition, cyberbullying awareness at school and the school’s capability of controlling it influenced the number of cyberbullies from a statistical grounding, which could be found only in the 2020 dataset. An approach to establishing policies in schools to contain preemptive measures and increase cyberbullying awareness has been proposed to prevent such mishaps in the post-COVID-19 era.

Abstract:The importance of social networking and the online environment as core factors in building relationships has grown as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, which limited in-person activities. As classes transitioned to online platforms, there was an influx of elementary school students into the cyberspace, increasing the risk of exposure to cyberbullying. This study analyzed the factors influencing the experience of cyberbullying among Korean elementary school students around 2020, when the spread of COVID-19 began in earnest, and thus suggests directions for cyberbullying prevention measures for the post-COVID-19 era. This comparative study used binary logistic regression to analyze data from the "Cyber Violence Survey" conducted by the Korea Communications Commission in 2019 and 2020. The analysis confirmed that interactions between parents and children, cyberbullying control by schools, and recognition of cyberbullying as a problem had statistically significant influences on cyberbullying experience only in 2020 (i.e., when the pandemic began). Overall, this study emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about cyberbullying among elementary school students and taking preventive action through a home-school system to address cyberbullying in the post-COVID-19 era.

Abstract:BackgroundIncreasing use of online network has a positive impact on the psychosocial development of adolescents, but at the same time has a negative impact such as cyberbullying. Yet, research on the characteristics of cyberbullying victimization and perpetration in adolescence is limited, despite its potential importance to provide adequate implications for adolescent protection.ObjectiveWe aimed to clarify latent classes characterized by cyberbullying victimization and perpetration, and to examine what factors predict the latent classes of the cyberbullying trajectories.Participants and SettingThe study included 3656 students (13–18 years) who had information about cyberbullying victimization and perpetration. The data was taken from the Seoul Education Longitudinal Study.MethodsLatent class growth analysis and multinomial logistic regression were conducted to identify patterns of cyberbullying victimization and perpetration.ResultsCyberbullying victimization patterns were identified: high risk increasing (n = 144, 3.9 %), transient (n = 219, 6.0 %), and low risk group (n = 3293, 90.1 %). Cyberbullying perpetration pattern were identified: mid risk maintaining (n = 115, 3.1 %), low risk (n = 3474, 95.0 %), and transient group (n = 67, 1.8 %). Regression results indicate that female students, students with high self-esteem, and more support from parents and friends experience less cyberbullying. Perpetration experience increases the risk of cyberbullying victimization, whereas victimization experience increases the risk of cyberbullying perpetration.ConclusionAdolescents experience distinct patterns of cyberbullying victimization and perpetration based on the individual and social support factors. This study provides important implications that characteristics of subgroups should be considered for interventions in cyberbullying.

Abstract:Today's digital native adolescents are at risk of experiencing bullying not only in traditional offline contexts but also in online social contexts. Yet, little is known about the joint occurrence of offline perpetration and victimization, as well as online perpetration and victimization among early adolescents, despite its potential for providing important implications for areas of intervention. The current study examined 375 adolescents (girls = 52.5%, age range = 10-11 years old) in Korea and identified four unique groups such as high-, online-, offline-, and low-risk groups, using 42 items measuring online and offline perpetration and victimization, through latent profile analysis. Logistic regression showed that anti-social peer conformity predicted membership in the high- (AOR=2.46, p<.05), offline- (AOR=3.10, p<.01), and online-risk (AOR=2.94, p<.001) groups, compared to the low-risk group. As for peer conformity, all groups involving bullying experiences showed more antisocial peer conformity than the low-risk group (F3,371=12.973, p<.001). Although all risk groups identified in this study—high-risk, online-risk, offline-risk—experienced both perpetration and victimization, there is a clear paucity of programs on the joint occurrence of bullying perpetration and victimization in Korea. Future interventions that consider the joint occurrence of bullying perpetration and victimization in online and offline contexts may be effective for preventing and reducing maladaptive peer interactions among adolescents in today's digital era. Moreover, as antisocial peer conformity was demonstrated in all bully experiences regardless of their domain, bullying prevention programs should address the social context of youth in terms of peer relationships rather than its current focus on individual factors.

Abstract:Despite a recent growth in studies on cyberbullying, extant knowledge on the underlying mechanisms of cyberbullying remain limited. The objective of the present study is to explore the dynamics of cyberbullying via traditional bullying, self-control, and delinquent peer association. Specifically, the following hypotheses guide the present study: (1) traditional bullying, low self-control, and delinquent peer association are predictive of cyberbullying, respectively, (2) the interaction between traditional bullying and low self-control has a significant impact on cyberbullying, and (3) the interaction between traditional bullying and delinquent peer association has a significant impact on cyberbullying. The present study relies on five waves of the Korean Youth Panel Survey (KYPS), a representative sample of South Korean adolescents. Data collection occurred annually and respondents were 14 years old at the first wave in 2003. KYPS is an almost gender-equal and racially/ethnically homogenous sample. Results of cross-lagged dynamic panel models show (1) significant effects of traditional bullying on cyberbullying with and without low self-control and delinquent peer affiliation, (2) the respective roles of self-control and delinquent peer association in the prediction of cyberbullying, and (3) an interaction effect between low self-control and traditional bullying on cyberbullying. These findings demonstrate the theoretical validity of self-control theory and social learning theory in online delinquent behavior as well as confirm their cross-cultural generalizability in a non-Western sample. The findings also highlight the importance of investing in early life-course prevention/intervention programs and policies to prevent and/or reduce the occurrence of bullying, regardless of whether it is being perpetrated face-to-face or online, and these programs and policies should also target components to improve self-control and reduce delinquent peer associations.

Abstract:Bullying has been one of the most important issues in the fields of School Culture and Juvenile Delinquencies. Definitions of Bullying have developed step by step. At the beginning it starts from verbal style bullying, These days it includes many different styles of bullyings like non-verbal bullying, physical distressful bullying, relational aggressive bullying, and cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is defined like this. Cyberbullying involves the use of information and communication technologies such as e-mail, cell-phone, SNS service, instant messaging, to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior by an individual or group that is intended to harm others. In both cases of Korea and U.S., the Government authorities want to use both two kinds of Anti-Cyberbullying resolutions, Anti-Cyberbullying Law and Anti-Cyberbullying Education. In both cases, Zero Tolerance Policy played an important role in the practical process of Anti-Cyberbullying Education. But in case of Anti-Cyberbullying Law, we can find many differences between two countries. In terms of definitional scope, the level of stiffness of Korean law is much higher than United States. In Korean law, the category of Bullies are defined as "two or more students". An individual bully is denied by Korean Anti-Cyberbullying Law.

Abstract:Recently, school violence is transforming into a form of cyberbullying as the use of smartphones increases. Due to the non-face-to-face nature, anonymity, and borderlessness of the Internet, cyberbullying among adolescents spreads at a very rapid rate, occurs collectively, and occurs at a very serious level due to a low sense of responsibility. It was assumed that parental involvement online would significantly affect cyberbullying victimization by suppressing adolescents' awareness of online self-disclosure. As a result of the study, a significant relationship was confirmed between parental involvement and cyberbullying victimization experience, and the mediating effect of adolescents' awareness of online self-disclosure was also significant. In other words, it suggests that awareness of online self-disclosure can significantly mediate the process through which parental involvement affects the experience of cyberbullying victimization. Based on the analysis results, this study presents an effective intervention strategy for parental involvement in cyberbullying damage among adolescents. Regular education to help teenagers who use the Internet and smartphones clearly recognize the risks of self-disclosure will be a way to help them form healthy cyber usage habits.

Abstract:The purpose of this study is to empirically reveal the relationship between cyber ethic education and cyber-violence for teenagers. Recently, the government has provided various youth cyber ethic education, and it has not been sufficiently verified whether these efforts have actually led to the prevention of cyber-violence. Therefore, this study focused on confirming the relationship between cyber ethic education and youth cyber-violence using data from 'Survey on Cyber Violence and Adolescents' collected by Korean Institute of criminology and justice. As a study using secondary data, this data includes a total of 5,358 youth data. As a result of examining the data by independent sample t-test and multiple regression analysis, it was found that adolescents who experienced cyber ethic education had significantly lower scores (average) of cyber-violence than general youth groups who did not. However, as a result of conducting multiple regression analysis after controlling mental and psychological factors, social and relational factors, technical factors, and demographic factors corresponding to youth cyber-violence factors, it was confirmed that the cyber ethic education experience did not significantly affect the cyber-violence. In conclusion, a new level of cyber violence prevention activities and education is needed that consider non-educational factors such as poor companions and interrelationships between peer groups, along with a re-examination of cyber ethic education in the future.

Abstract:Existing previous studies that investigated stalking perception focused on investigating specific age groups such as Cyber bullying, which has recently occurred, appears to be a more serious form than school violence, which has mainly occurred offline in the past. Cyberbullying is a serious social problem that not only children and adolescents but also adults are experiencing. In particular, in the case of cyberbullying experienced by children and adolescents, victims experience negative emotions such as frustration, anger, and sadness, leading to serious suicidal thoughts. described as a type of crime. A lot of research has been done so far to elucidate the causes of cyberbullying damage. In particular, factors such as parents' level of intervention in using cyber media are explained as factors related to cyberbullying damage. The level of parental intervention in cyber media use starts from the parents' interest in their children. Parental neglect, an independent variable used in this study, is explained as one of the types of child abuse in which parental guidance and supervision are remarkably reduced, in which parents neglect their children and neglect them. Parental neglect is difficult to detect because it has the characteristic of invisibility, unlike other types of abuse. However, there have been recent cases of child deaths due to neglect, which is a very serious abuse. In addition, children and adolescents who are not protected by their parents due to neglect can become victims of various crimes, and the depression experienced by children and adolescents as a result of neglect affects crime damage, aggression, and suicide. Therefore, in this study, the mediating effect of depression on the relationship between parental neglect and cyberbullying damage was verified in order to present an academic basis for preventing cyberbullying damage, which is currently one of the serious social problems. As a result of the study, parental neglect had a positive (+) effect on the victims of cyberbullying among children and adolescents, and depression had a positive (+) effect on cyberbullying victims and mediates the relationship between parental neglect and cyberbullying victims. Therefore, in order to prevent cyberbullying damage through the research results, methods to prevent parental neglect and specific measures to manage depression in children and adolescents were presented. Abstract:With the ever-increasing prevalence of the Internet and electronic devices, social media has become more accessible, resulting in the alarming rise of the cyberbullying crisis. Throughout the years of the pandemic, Internet usage skyrocketed, exacerbating the occurrence of cyber violence, with severe cases garnering increasing attention. This study primarily delves into the causes and far-reaching effects of cyber violence, exploring various dimensions in which cyberbullying impacts individuals and society. The study will examine the evolving identity of “netizens,” the distinctive features of contemporary social media platforms, and the immediate as well as long-term consequences of cyberbullying. Additionally, we will explore readily implementable measures to address this pressing issue. It is important to note that cyberbullying lacks a universally accepted definition across various disciplines. Therefore, our definition will be formulated based on the defining characteristics of cyber violence and a comprehensive synthesis of prior research. Subsequently, we will engage in a detailed discussion centered on this definition.

Abstract:AbstmctIn this paper, a neural dynamics based approach is proposed for real-time collision-free path planning of multiple mobile robots, where the robot navigation can be either the classic path planning from a starting location t o a targeting location, or the complete coverage path planning that covers every location of the entire workspace. In the proposed approach, the changing environment is represented by a topologically organized neural network, where the dynamics of each neuron is characterized by biologically inspired shunting neural model. For obstacle avoidance, each robot treats other robots as moving obstacles. In the neural network design, the target attracts the robot in the entire workspace through neural activity propagation, although each neuron has only local connections to its neighboring neurons. There is no inhibitory neural connections, thus the obstacles have only influence to avoid possible collisions. The proposed approach is applied t o real-time collision-free path generation of multiple mobile robots to reach their target locations in a common workspace, and complete coverage path planning of multiple cleaning robots to clean a workspace together. The intelligence is achieved through the collaboration of multipie cleaning robots.

Abstract:With the popularization of the Internet, cyberbullying has become a complicated aspect of school bullying. Understanding the current hotspots of cyberbullying among teenagers is a benefit for relevant education managers. In this study, SPSS was used to conduct cluster analysis of relevant literatures collected in Web of Science (WoS) core journal before December 31, 2019. According to the results of the analysis, the hotspots in the research on teenagers ’ cyberbullying can be classified into four themes: 1) definitions and characteristics of cyberbullying, 2) mental health problems caused by cyberbullying, 3) strategies of cyberbullying, and 4) the relationship between gender difference and cyberbullying. Future research needs to coordinate the governance of teenagers’ living and learning environment from three aspects: family, school and social media, such as paying attention to parents’ family educa tion mode, school education, monitoring and management mechanism of social network, etc., and promote the establishment of teenagers’ personal good values and the reflection of bystander behavior from the perspective of others .

Abstract:Introduction: Adolescents may perpetrate cyberbullying in cyberspace, which they perceive as a medium of social communication, and cyberbullying perpetration is closely related to adolescent behavior, mental health, and development. This study aimed to examine the relationship of certain factors related to cyberbullying in adolescents using the framework of Jessor's problem behavior theory. Methods: This cross-sectional study investigated the mediating effect of adolescent self-esteem and smartphone addiction in the relationship between positive parenting and adolescent cyberbullying perpetration. The secondary analysis used data from the 2018 Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey. The data on positive parenting, adolescent self-esteem, smartphone addiction, and perpetration of cyberbullying of 2,394 Korean adolescents (boys: 1,297, 54.2%) were analyzed. Hayes' PROCESS macro program was used to confirm the mediating role. Results: The results revealed that 26.5% ( n = 634) of adolescents had perpetrated cyberbullying. Positive parenting did not directly relate to cyberbullying perpetration. Adolescent self-esteem and smartphone addiction played a mediating role between positive parenting and adolescent cyberbullying. Discussion: Individual adolescent characteristics and parent/family system characteristics should be considered in policies aimed at preventing adolescent cyberbullying perpetration, preceded by the management of appropriate smartphone use. Improving young people's self-esteem and teaching them how to use smartphones correctly can help prevent cyberbullying.

Abstract:The main purpose of this study was to test whether the factors of impulsivity, parental neglect, and smartphone addiction among out-of-school youth affect cyber violence indirectly or directly through the mediation of delinquent peer variables. The data used in this study were from the fourth year (2016) of the Korean Youth Policy Research Institute's Panel on Out-of-School Youth (PSSDY). A structural equation model was applied to carry out the research objectives. The results showed that the impulsivity variable not only influences cyber violence through mediating discriminatory contact with delinquent peers, but also directly leads to cyber violence. The parental neglect factor did not directly affect cyber violence, but indirectly affected the dependent variable through delinquent peers. On the other hand, the smartphone addiction factor was found to have a direct effect on cyber violence, but not indirectly through contact with delinquent friends. This study proved that among the many factors that can affect cyber violence among out-of-school youth, the variable of discriminatory contact with delinquent friends has a significant impact. Therefore, it is urgently necessary to develop cyber violence prevention programs that can block discriminatory contact with delinquent friends among out-of-school youth.

Abstract:“Cyberbullying” as well as “online harassment” and “electronic violence”, has become a serious public health concern in recent decades, particularly among Chinese youth. Cyberbullying among teenagers has many kinds of characteristics, such as strong concealment and great harm, which could not only be considered as an extension of school bullying. The 46th China Statistical Report on the Development of the Internet indicates that China's internet penetration rate was 67% as of June 2020, with 940 million internet users. Nonetheless, because of its unique and widespread nature, cyberbullying can further harm a victim's mental and behavioral well-being and well-being. In the current social context, it is critical to strengthen the research and practice of cyberbullying education to prevent and reduce the occurrence of cyberbullying among young people, safeguard their healthy development, and safeguard national security. To lessen the prevalence of cyberbullying and the harm it does to young people, it is necessary to first understand how cyberbullying occurs to identify effective remedies to the core causes. This study looks at the fundamental causes of cyberbullying, concentrating on the actual circumstances of young people and what motivates them to commit cyberbullying and victimize young people. Furthermore, coping strategies for reducing the prevalence of cyberbullying and psychological protection for teenagers are presented.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To examine the relationship between body mass and gastro-oesophageal reflux in a large population-representative sample from the UK. DESIGN AND SETTING Cross-sectional population-based study, as part of a randomized controlled trial of eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection, in Southwest England. Subjects In all, 10 537 subjects, aged 20-59 years, were recruited from seven general practices. Subjects provided data on frequency and severity of dyspeptic symptoms and anthropometric measurements were taken. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE Relationship between overweight (body mass index [BMI] >/=25 kg/m(2) and </=30 kg/m(2)) or obesity (BMI >30 kg/m(2)) and frequency and severity of heartburn and acid regurgitation. RESULTS Body mass index was strongly positively related to the frequency of symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux. The adjusted odds ratios (OR) for frequency of heartburn and acid regurgitation occurring at least once a week in overweight participants compared with those of normal weight were 1.82 (95% CI: 1.33-2.50) and 1.50 (95% CI: 1.13-1.99) respectively. Corresponding OR (95% CI) relating to obese patients were 2.91 (95% CI: 2.07-4.08) and 2.23 (95% CI: 1.44-3.45) respectively. The OR for moderate to severe reflux symptoms were raised in overweight and obese subjects but not to the same extent as frequency of symptoms and only the relationship between obesity and severity of heartburn reached conventional statistical significance: OR = 1.19; 95% CI: 1.07-1.33. CONCLUSIONS Being above normal weight substantially increases the likelihood of suffering from heartburn and acid regurgitation and obese people are almost three times as likely to experience these symptoms as those of normal weight.

Methods: We used national survey data from 2019 (n=4779) and 2020 (n=4958) to investigate the potential impact of COVID-19 on the prevalence of cyber violence among young adolescents. The data encompassed responses from elementary fourth-grade students to senior high school students, probing their exposure to violent media content, average internet use, as well as experiences of victimization and perpetration. Results: The analysis revealed a noteworthy decline in cyber victimization during 2020 compared with 2019 (B=–0.12, t =–3.45, P <.001). Furthermore, being a perpetrator significantly contributed to cyber victimization (B=0.57, t =48.36, P <.001). Additionally, younger adolescents (β=–.06, t =–6.09, P <.001), those spending more time online (β=.18, t =13.83, P <.001), and those exposed to violent media (β=.14, t =13.89, P <.001) were found to be more susceptible to victimization. Conclusions: Despite the widespread belief that cyber violence among adolescents surged during COVID-19 due to increased online activity, the study findings counter this assumption. Surprisingly, COVID-19 did not exacerbate cyber victimization; rather, it decreased it. Given the strong correlation between cyber victimization and offline victimization, our attention should be directed toward implementing real-life interventions aimed at curbing violence originating from in-person violence at school.

Status and Risk Factors of Chinese Teenagers’ Exposure to Cyberbullying

Abstract:The debate over teenagers’ exposure to cyberbullying has aroused broad public concern, but there are few nationwide empirical studies on teen cyberbullying in China. Based on social cognitive theory, this study analyzes the current state of cyberbullying among Chinese teenagers using a questionnaire survey ( N = 1,538) distributed to teenagers in eastern, central, and western regions of China. The results suggest that 18.1% ( N = 279) of respondents reported having bullied someone and 54.6% ( N = 839) reported having been bullied online, and that age, gender, individual school performance, and risky online behaviors may predict different cyberbullying behaviors. Enhancing teenagers’ awareness of the importance of protecting their personal information is critical, along with implementing social protective measures to contain cyberbullying.
