Abstract:In this paper, the Caputo-based fractional derivative optimal control model is looked at to learn more about how the human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) spreads. Model solution properties such as boundedness and non-negativity are checked and found to be true. The fundamental reproduction number is calculated by using the next-generation matrix's spectral radius. The fractional optimal control model includes the control functions of vaccination and treatment to illustrate the impact of these interventions on the dynamics of virus transmission. In addition, the order of the derivative in the fractional optimal control problem indicates that encouraging vaccination and treatment early on can slow the spread of RSV. The overall analysis and the simulated behavior of the fractional optimum control model are in good agreement, and this is due in large part to the use of the MATLAB platform.

Abstract:In this paper, a fractional model for the transmission dynamics of cholera was developed. In invariant regions of the model, solutions were generated. Disease-free and endemic equilibrium points were obtained. The basic reproduction number was evaluated, and the sensitivity analysis was performed. Under the support of Pontryagin’s maximum principle, the fractional order optimal control was obtained. Furthermore, an optimal strategy was discussed, which minimized the total number of infected individuals and the costs associated with control. Treatment, vaccination, and awareness programs were regarded as three means to reduce the number of infected. Finally, numerical simulations and cost-effectiveness analysis were presented to show the result that the best strategy was the combination of treatment and awareness programs.

Abstract:A recently proposed fractional-order mathematical model with Caputo derivatives was developed for Ebola disease. Here, we extend and generalize this model, beginning with its correction. A fractional optimal control (FOC) problem is then formulated and numerically solved with the rate of vaccination as the control measure. The research presented in this work addresses the problem of fitting real data from Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, available at the World Health Organization (WHO). A cost-effectiveness analysis is performed to assess the cost and effectiveness of the control measure during the intervention. We come to the conclusion that the fractional control is more efficient than the classical one only for a part of the time interval. Hence, we suggest a system where the derivative order changes over time, becoming fractional or classical when it makes more sense. This type of variable-order fractional model, known as piecewise derivative with fractional Caputo derivatives, is the most successful in managing the illness.

Abstract:A human respiratory syncytial virus surveillance system was implemented in Florida in 1999, to support clinical decision-making for prophylaxis of premature newborns. Recently, a local periodic SEIRS mathematical model was proposed in [Stat. Optim. Inf. Comput. 6 (2018), no.1, 139--149] to describe real data collected by Florida's system. In contrast, here we propose a non-local fractional (non-integer) order model. A fractional optimal control problem is then formulated and solved, having treatment as the control. Finally, a cost-effectiveness analysis is carried out to evaluate the cost and the effectiveness of proposed control measures during the intervention period, showing the superiority of obtained results with respect to previous ones.

Abstract:In this paper, we have studied epidemiological models for Ebola infection using nonlinear ordinary differential equations and optimal control theory. We considered optimal control analysis of SIR and SEIR models for the deadly Ebola infection using vaccination, treatment and educational campaign as time-dependent controls functions. We have applied indirect methods to study existing deterministic optimal control epidemic models for Ebola virus disease. These methods in optimal control are based on Hamiltonian function and the Pontryagin's maximum principle to construct adjoint equations and optimality systems. The forward-backward sweep numerical scheme with fourth-order Runge-Kutta method is used to solve the optimality system for the various control strategies. From our numerical illustrations, we can conclude that, effective educational campaigns and vaccination of susceptible individuals as were as effective treatments of infected individuals can help reduce the disease transmission.

Abstract:A novel model incorporating a fractional‐order approach and an alert compartment is developed to analyze the dynamics of dengue, focusing on the lack of a definitive treatment for the disease. The Pontryagin principle is utilized to formulate and explore an optimal control problem, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing measures for controlling or preventing dengue transmission. Through numerical simulations, the impact of various control measures, such as prevention efforts, insecticides, educational campaigns, and treatment for humans, is analyzed. Dengue fever is a viral disease that results in numerous fatalities and considerable financial burden. Although vaccines have been developed to treat it, some countries still have endemic cases of the disease. To manage the transmission of the disease in these areas, we create a new model that includes an alert compartment to analyze the dynamics of dengue using a fractional‐order approach. We conduct a qualitative analysis of the model and use the Pontryagin principle to develop and study an optimal control problem. Since there is no definitive treatment for dengue, it is essential to prioritize measures that control or prevent the transmission of the disease. We consider control measures, including prevention efforts, insecticides, educational campaigns, and treatment for humans. We can analyze their impact on the transmission dynamics through numerical simulations. We compare our model to an existing one in two ways: with alert and without alert. We analyze the memory effect and validate the results by interpreting parameters on the reproduction number. Our results indicate that individual control measures are insufficient to eliminate the disease, and a combination of all control measures with timely alerts to the population is necessary.

Abstract:In this manuscript, we developed a nonlinear fractional order Ebola virus with a novel piecewise hybrid technique to observe the dynamical transmission having eight compartments. The existence and uniqueness of a solution of piecewise derivative is treated for a system with Arzel’a-Ascoli and Schauder conditions. We investigate the effects of classical and modified fractional calculus operators, specifically the classical Caputo piecewise operator, on the behavior of the model. A model shows that a completely continuous operator is uniformly continuous, and bounded according to the equilibrium points. The reproductive number R 0 is derived for the biological feasibility of the model with sensitivity analysis with different parameters impact on the model. Sensitivity analysis is an essential tool for comprehending how various model parameters affect the spread of illness. Through a methodical manipulation of important parameters and an assessment of their impact on R o , we are able to learn more about the resiliency and susceptibility of the model. Local stability is established with next Matignon method and global stability is conducted with the Lyapunov function for a feasible solution of the proposed model. In the end, a numerical solution is derived with Newton’s polynomial technique for a piecewise Caputo operator through simulations of the compartments at various fractional orders by using real data. Our findings highlight the importance of fractional operators in enhancing the accuracy of the model in capturing the intricate dynamics of the disease. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of Ebola virus dynamics and provides valuable insights for improving disease modeling and public health strategies.

Abstract:In this study, a deterministic model for the dynamics of Marburg virus transmission that incorporates the impact of public health education is being formulated and analyzed. The Caputo fractional-order derivative is used to extend the traditional integer model to a fractional-based model. The model's positivity and boundedness are also under investigation. We obtain the basic reproduction number [Formula: see text] and establish the conditions for the local and global asymptotic stability for the disease-free equilibrium of the model. Under the Caputo fractional-order derivative, we establish the existence-uniqueness theory using the Banach contraction mapping principle for the solution of the proposed model. We use functional techniques to demonstrate the proposed model's stability under the Ulam-Hyers condition. The numerical solutions are being determined through the Predictor-Corrector scheme. Awareness, as a form of education that lowers the risk of danger, is reducing susceptibility and the risk of infection. We employ numerical simulations to showcase the variety of realistic parameter values that support the argument that human awareness, as a form of education, considerably lowers susceptibility and the risk of infection.

Abstract:We present a mathematical analysis of the early detection of Ebola virus. The propagation of the virus is analysed by using a Susceptible, Infected, Recovered (SIR) model. In order to provide useful predictions about the potential transmission of the virus, we analyse and simulate the SIR model with vital dynamics, by adding demographic effects and an induced death rate. Then, we compute the equilibria of the model. The numerical simulations confirm the theoretical analysis. Our study describes the 2015 detection of Ebola virus in Guinea, the parameters of the model being identified from the World Health Organization data. Finally, we consider an optimal control problem of the propagation of the Ebola virus, minimizing the number of infected individuals while taking into account the cost of vaccination.

Abstract:Studies have shown that some people with underlying conditions such as cancer, heart failure, diabetes and hypertension are more likely to get COVID-19 and have worse outcomes. In this paper, a fractional-order derivative is proposed to study the transmission dynamics of COVID-19 taking into consideration population having an underlying condition. The fractional derivative is defined in the Atangana Beleanu and Caputo (ABC) sense. For the proposed model, we find the basic reproductive number, the equilibrium points and determine the stability of these equilibrium points. The existence and the uniqueness of the solution are established along with Hyers Ulam Stability. The numerical scheme for the operator was carried out to obtain a numerical simulation to support the analytical results. COVID-19 cases from March to June 2020 of Ghana were used to validate the model. The numerical simulation revealed a decline in infections as the fractional operator was increased from 0.6 within the 120 days. Time-dependent optimal control was incorporated into the model. The numerical simulation of the optimal control revealed, vaccination reduces the number of individuals susceptible to the COVID-19, exposed to the COVID-19 and Covid-19 patients with and without an underlying health condition.

Abstract:In this work we study a fractional SEIR biological model of a reaction-diffusion, using the non-singular kernel Caputo-Fabrizio fractional derivative in the Caputo sense and employing the Laplacian operator. In our PDE model, the government seeks immunity through the vaccination program, which is considered a control variable. Our study aims to identify the ideal control pair that reduces the number of infected/infectious people and the associated vaccine and treatment costs over a limited time and space. Moreover, by using the forward-backward algorithm, the approximate results are explained by dynamic graphs to monitor the effectiveness of vaccination.

Abstract:The resurgence of monkeypox causes considerable healthcare risks needing efficient immunization programs. This work investigates the monkeypox disease dynamics in the UK, focusing on the impact of vaccination under real data. The key difficulty is to correctly predict the spread of the disease and evaluate the success of immunization efforts. We construct a mathematical model for monkeypox infection and extend it to the fractional case considering the Caputo derivative. The analysis ensures the positivity, boundedness, and uniqueness of the solution for the non-integer system. We conduct a local asymptotical stability analysis (LAS) at the disease-free equilibrium (DFE) D0, showing the result for R0<1. Additionally, we demonstrate the existence of multiple endemic equilibria and provide conditions for backward bifurcation, which are illustrated graphically. Using real case data from the UK, we estimate model parameters via the nonlinear least square method. Our results show that, without vaccination, R2≈0.8, whereas vaccination reduces it to R2v=0.48. We perform sensitivity analysis to identify key parameters influencing disease elimination, presenting the outcomes through graphs. To solve numerically the fractional model, we outline a numerical scheme and provide detailed results under various parameter assumptions. Our findings suggest that high vaccine efficacy, a low waning rate of the vaccines, and increased vaccination of the infected people can significantly reduce the future cases of monkeypox in the UK. The present study offers a comprehensive framework for monkeypox dynamics and informs public health strategies for effective disease control and prevention.

Abstract:A major Ebola outbreak occurs in West Africa since March 2014, being the deadliest epidemic in history. As an infectious disease epidemiology, Ebola is the most lethal and is moving faster than in previous outbreaks. On 8 August 2014, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak a public health emergency of international concern. Last update on 7 July 2015 by WHO reports 27 609 cases of Ebola with a total of 11 261 deaths. In this work, we present a mathematical description of the spread of Ebola virus based on the SEIR (Susceptible-Exposed-Infective-Recovered) model and optimal strategies for Ebola control. In order to control the propagation of the virus and to predict the impact of vaccine programmes, we investigate several strategies of optimal control of the spread of Ebola: control infection by vaccination of susceptible; minimize exposed and infected; reduce Ebola infection by vaccination and education.

Abstract:The purpose of the present research is to improve our understanding of how coronavirus infection spreads by creating an epidemic model that incorporates isolation and quarantine measures. The dynamics of this viral spread are represented using the Caputo–Fabrizio operator. By analyzing the equilibria of the model and utilizing the next-generation matrix method, we determine the endemic indicator, . The main findings demonstrate that the equilibrium without infection is locally stable when is less than one and unstable otherwise. Also, we demonstrate the existence and uniqueness of the solution of our recommended model. In addition to this, we interrogate the solution pathways of the system by varying different factors, aiming to comprehend the intricate transmission of COVID-19 and visualize the crucial factors of the system that can aid public health officials in the control of the spread of infection.

Abstract:Abstract Background The world's survival ability has been threatened by the COVID-19 outbreak. The possibility of the virus reemerging in the future should not be disregarded, even if it has been confined to certain areas of the world after wreaking such havoc. This is because it is impossible to prove that the virus has been totally eliminated. This research attempts to investigate the spread and control of the COVID-19 virus in Nigeria using the Caputo fractional order derivative in a proposed model. Results We proposed a competent nine-compartment model of Corona virus infection. It starts by demonstrating that the model is epidemiologically sound in terms of solution existence and uniqueness. The basic reproduction threshold R 0 was determined using the next-generation matrix technique. We applied the Laplace-Adomian decomposition method to the fractional-order Caputo's derivative model of the Corona virus disease to produce the approximate solution of the model analytically. The obtained results, in the form of an infinite series, were simulated using the MAPLE 18 package to investigate the effect of fractional order derivative on the dynamics of COVID-19 transmission in the model and shed light on methods of eradication. The graphical interpretations of the simulation process were shown and discussed accordingly. Conclusions The study reveals the effect of the Caputo fractional order derivative in the transmission dynamics of the disease. Individual recovery was found to be greatest at an integer order, which represents the full implementation of other factors such as treatment, vaccination, and disease transmission reduction. Hence, we advised that researchers, government officials, and health care workers make use of the findings of this study to provide ways in which disease transmission will be reduced to a minimum to stop the prevalence of COVID-19 by applying the findings of this study.

Abstract:In this manuscript, we have studied the dynamical behavior of a deadly COVID‐19 pandemic which has caused frustration in the human community. For this study, a new deterministic SEIHR fractional model is developed for the first time. The purpose is to perform a complete mathematical analysis and the design of an optimal control strategy for the proposed Caputo–Fabrizio fractional model. We have proved the existence and uniqueness of solutions by employing principle of mathematical induction. The positivity and the boundedness of solutions is proved using comprehensive mathematical techniques. Two main equilibrium points of the pandemic model are stated. The basic reproduction number for the model is computed using next generation technique to handle the future dynamics of the pandemic. We develop an optimal control problem to find the best controls for the quarantine and hospitalization strategies employed on exposed and infected humans, respectively. For numerical solution of the fractional model, we implemented the Adams–Bashforth method to prove the importance of order. A general fractional‐order optimal control problem and associated optimality conditions of Pontryagin type are discussed, with the goal to minimize the number of exposed and infected humans. The extremals are obtained numerically.

Abstract:The present findings suggest that endogenous proteolysis stimulates Na+-Ca2+ exchange activity in membrane vesicles from aortic myocytes. A crude plasma membrane fraction was prepared from rat aortic myocytes in the presence or absence of protease inhibitors (40 KIU/ml solid aprotinin, 4 pg/ml leupeptin, 4 pg/ml pepstatin A, 0.8 mM phenylmethylsulfonylfluoride, and 1 mM benzamidine) as described in FIGURE 1. Na+ -Ca2+ exchange activity was taken as the difference between 45Ca2+ uptake in assay solutions containing 160 mM KC1 or NaCl as previously described.I Exchange activity was plentiful in “Na vesicles” from aortic myocytes, but no activity was detected in vesicles from human skin fibroblasts (FIG. 1A and 1B). The following results confirmed that 45Ca2+ uptake depended on the Na+ gradient. “K vesicles,” which were prepared in the presence of 160 mM KCl instead of NaCl, almost eliminated the difference in 45Ca2+ between the KCl and NaCl assay solutions (FIG. 1C). Moreover, passive loading of the “K vesicles” with Na+ largely restored exchange activity (FIG. 1D). Exchange activity in vesicles from aortic myocytes has the following additional properties: (a) N-(2,4-dimethylbenzyl)amiloride (DMB) (650 pM) inhibited Na+ gradient-dependent *’Ca*+ uptake by the vesicles. DMB had no effect on 45Ca2+ uptake assayed in the presence of 160 mM external Na+. The concentration of DMB that inhibited exchange activity by 50% was similar for vesicles and intact cells (8 versus 11 pM, respectively). (b) Diltiazem (100 pM), which blocks mitochondria1 Na+-Ca2+ exchange,2 had no effect on 45Ca2+ uptake by crude vesicles. (c) The rate of 45Ca2+ uptake by the vesicles was somewhat less when 160 mM choline or N-methyl-Dglucamine chloride was used instead of KC1 in the assay solution, as was also found for 45Ca2+uptake by the intact cells (see Smith et aZ., this volume). (d) Neither the depletion of cellular ATP before vesicle preparation, nor in vitro treatment with MgATP under a variety of conditions, affected Na+-Caz+ exchange activity in the vesicles. In the intact myocytes, however, ATP depletion with rotenone inhibits exchange activity by 80%, and ATP repletion by glucose restores exchange a~t iv i ty .~ FIGURE 2 shows the time course of 45Ca2+ uptake by vesicles prepared in the presence or absence of the protease inhibitors. Crude vesicles prepared in the presence of the inhibitors had about half as much exchange activity as those prepared in the absence of the protease inhibitors (FIG. 2). Abstract:A multi-patch HIV/AIDS epidemic model with fractional order derivative is formulated to investigate the effect of human movement on the spread of HIV/AIDS epidemic among patches. We derive the basic reproduction number R 0 and prove that if R 0 < 1 , the disease-free equilibrium (DFE) is locally and globally asymptotically stable. In the case of R 0 > 1 , we obtain sufficient conditions under which the endemic equilibrium is unique and globally asymptotically stable. We also formulate a fractional optimal control problem (FOCP), in which the state and co-state equations are given in terms of the left fractional derivatives. We incorporate into the model time dependent controls aimed at controlling the spread of HIV/AIDS epidemic. The necessary conditions for fractional optimal control of the disease are obtained. The simulation of the model is done with two patches. The numerical results show that implementing all the control efforts decreases significantly the number of HIV-infected and AIDS people in both patches. In addition, the value of R c , the control reproduction number, for a long time is at its minimum level, and the value of objective functional J(u) increases when the fractional derivative order α is reduced from 1 ( 0 . 8 ≤ α ≤ 1 ).

Abstract:During any infectious disease outbreak, effective and timely quarantine of infected individuals, along with preventive measures by the population, is vital for controlling the spread of infection in society. Therefore, this study attempts to provide a mathematically validated approach for managing the epidemic spread by incorporating the Monod-Haldane incidence rate, which accounts for psychological effects, and a saturated quarantine rate as Holling functional type III that considers the limitation in quarantining of infected individuals into the standard Susceptible-Exposed-Infected-Quarantine-Recovered (SEIQR) model. The rate of change of each subpopulation is considered as the Caputo form of fractional derivative where the order of derivative represents the memory effects in epidemic transmission dynamics and can enhance the accuracy of disease prediction by considering the experience of individuals with previously encountered. The mathematical study of the model reveals that the solutions are well-posed, ensuring nonnegativity and boundedness within an attractive region. Further, the study identifies two equilibria, namely, disease-free (DFE) and endemic (EE); and stability analysis of equilibria is performed for local as well as global behaviours for the same. The stability behaviours of equilibria mainly depend on the basic reproduction number R0 and its alternative threshold T0 which is computed using the Next-generation matrix method. It is investigated that DFE is locally and globally asymptotic stable when R0<1 . Furthermore, we show the existence of EE and investigate that it is locally and globally asymptotic stable using the Routh–Hurwitz criterion and the Lyapunov stability theorem for fractional order systems with R0>1 under certain conditions. This study also addresses a fractional optimal control problem (FOCP) using Pontryagin's maximum principle aiming to minimize the spread of infection with minimal expenditure. This approach involves introducing a time-dependent control measure, u(t) , representing the behavioural response of susceptible individuals. Finally, numerical simulations are presented to support the analytical findings using the Adams Bashforth Moulton scheme in MATLAB, providing a comprehensive understanding of the proposed SEIQR model.
