Abstract:Background: Little is known about variation of vitamin D (VD) status during pregnancy among Chinese women. This study is to assess the change of VD status during pregnancy and its influencing factors among Chinese women. Methods: A running cohort study has being conducted in southeast China. The pregnant women were interviewed and the peripheral blood samples were collected at the first (T1), second (T2) and third trimester (T3), respectively. 25(OH)D-2 and 25(OH)D-3 were measured by liquid chromatography tandemmass spectrometry. Multiple linear and logistic regression models were applied to explore the associations of VD supplement with 25(OH)D concentration and VD deficiency, respectively. Results: There were 4368 pregnant women enrolled in the current study. The 25(OH)D concentration increased notably with gestational week. The average plasma 25(OH)D concentration in T1, T2 and T3 was 18.94 +/- 8.74, 23.05 +/- 11.15, and 24.65 +/- 11.59 ng/mL, respectively. Correspondingly, VD deficiency (25(OH)D < 20 ng/mL) rate was 65.26%, 33.56% and 32.12%. In T1 phase, higher pre-pregnancy BMI, more parity, sampling in summer/autumn were related to higher 25(OH)D level, and similar patterns were observed in T2 and T3 phase. There was positive dose-response effect between VD supplement frequency and 25(OH)D concentration during pregnancy, adjusting for potential confounders (T1: beta(SE) = 3.907 (0.319), P < 0.001; T2: beta(SE) = 2.780 (0.805), P < 0.001; T3: beta(SE) = 3.640 (1.057), P = 0.006). Not surprisingly, supplementing VD > 3 times/week reduced the risk of VD deficiency during pregnancy significantly, compared to without VD supplement (T1: OR = 0.30, 95% CI: 0.24-0.37; T2: 0.56, 0.38 0.82; T3: 0.67, 0.44-0.96). Conclusion: VD level increased with gestational week among Chinese pregnant women. High frequency of VD supplement during pregnancy is an effective way to reduce risk of VD deficiency, especially among the pregnant women with younger age, low prepregnancy BMI and primipara, and during winter and spring season. Abstract:Abstract Background Perinatal depression impacts maternal and fetal health, and exhibits a high rate of continuity postpartum. Not only does it impair the maternal quality of life, it also increases the risk of adverse birth and developmental problems in offspring. Vitamin D deficiency and excessive inflammation have been associated with perinatal depression. There is a scarcity of evidence regarding the biological causes of maternal depression in Iraq, therefore, the present study aims to assess perinatal depressive symptoms associations with inflammatory markers and vitamin D levels, and to investigate the interaction between vitamin D and the inflammatory markers. A prospective, observational study design was utilized to recruit healthy pregnant women from private obstetrics clinic in Baghdad, Iraq, from April to September 2021. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) was used to measure depressive symptoms during the third trimester and at 6 months postpartum. Serum levels of interleukin (IL)-6, C-reactive protein (CRP), and 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25-OH-D) were quantified, using a fully automated chemiluminescence immunoassay analyzer. Results Eighty patients were eligible for inclusion. The antenatal EPDS scores demonstrated a significant association with square root IL-6 ( B = – 0.025, p = 0.040) and no association with CRP or vitamin D levels. The severity of postpartum depressive symptoms tended towards a positive association, with larger increases of CRP concentration ( p = 0.065). In contrast, the association between marital relationship quality and CRP was statistically significant ( p = 0.001). There was a statistically significant association between CRP and vitamin D concentration ( p = 0.041). Antepartum EPDS significantly predicted the postpartum EPDS score ( p = 0.000, B = 0.180, R 2 for the model = 0.976, CI (0.17–0.19)). Conclusions The study findings show a significant association between third trimester depressive symptoms and IL-6 concentration. CRP and vitamin D levels do not correlate with perinatal depressive symptoms and a poor marital relationship significantly elevates the CRP level. In addition, vitamin D level was associated with CRP level and antepartum depressive symptoms predict postpartum EPDS score. Future studies involving a larger population and including women with pregnancy complications would provide a further insight into the role of inflammation and vitamin D deficiency in the etiology of perinatal depression.
The influences of vitamin D and omega-3 co-supplementation on clinical, metabolic and genetic parameters in women with polycystic ovary syndrome

Abstract:Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the co-administration of vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acid on clinical, metabolic and genetic parameters in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Methods: This randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted on 60 subjects, aged 18-40 years old with PCOS. Subjects were randomly allocated to take either 50,000 IU vitamin D every 2 weeks plus 2000 mg/day omega-3 fatty acid from fish oil (n = 30) or placebo (n = 30) for 12 weeks. Gene expression analysis of inflammatory cytokines was conducted on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of PCOS women using RT-PCR method. Results: Vitamin D and omega -3 fatty acid co-supplementation significantly decreased serum total testosterone levels (-0.2 ± 0.5 vs. + 0.1 ± 0.4 ng/mL, P = 0.02) compared with the placebo. In addition, vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acid co-supplementation resulted in a significant improvement in beck depression inventory (-1.4 ± 1.6 vs. -0.5 ± 0.6, P = 0.01), general health questionnaire scores (-4.5 ± 4.3 vs. -1.9 ± 2.3, P = 0.005) and depression anxiety and stress scale scores (-5.0 ± 5.1 vs. -2.3 ± 3.5, P = 0.01) compared with the placebo. Additionally, vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acid co-administration significantly decreased serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) (-1.2 ± 1.9 vs. + 0.1 ± 0.7 mg/L, P = 0.001) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels (-0.4 ± 0.4 vs. + 0.2 ± 0.6 µmol/L, P < 0.001), and significantly increased plasma total antioxidant capacity (TAC) levels (+ 114.6 ± 122.2 vs. -2.4 ± 168.2 mmol/L, P = 0.003) compared with the placebo. Results of RT-PCR demonstrated that vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acid co-supplementation significantly downregulated gene expression of interleukin-1 (IL-1) (P = 0.03), and upregulated vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) (P = 0.004) in PBMCs of subjects with PCOS, when compared with placebo. Conclusions: Overall, the co-administration of vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acid for 12 weeks had beneficial effects on mental health parameters, serum total testosterone, hs-CRP, plasma TAC and MDA levels, and gene expression of IL-1 and VEGF among women with PCOS.

Abstract:Introduction: Vitamin D Deficiency (VDD) is a global problem among pregnant women in many populations. There is an association between VDD and some pregnancy outcomes, as well as gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and pre-eclampsia. We aimed to evaluate the effect of vitamin D supplementation on metabolic status (Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS), insulin, Homeostasis model of assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and lipid profile) and blood pressure (BP) among pregnant women with VDD. Methods: A clinical trial was carried out on 30 pregnant women with VDD referring to the Gynecology & Obstetrics Clinic of Baqiyatallah Hospital, Tehran, Iran. The present study had two phases of vitamin D3 supplementation (50000 IU / week for 12 weeks and then 50000 IU / month for three months). Serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL), High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH) D) level, insulin, Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) and both systolic and diastolic blood pressure were measured. Homeostasis model of assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) was also determined. Results: The results showed that mean levels of Insulin (F=6, p=0.010), HOMA-IR (F=4.6, p=0.020), 25-hydroxyvitamin D level (F=179, p=0.001), cholesterol (F=69.7, p=0.001), triglyceride (F=69.9, p=0.001) and LDL (F=29.9, p=0.001) significantly increases during study period. However, Diastolic and systolic blood pressure, FBS, and HDL levels did not change significantly over time. Conclusion: The results of this investigation showed that weekly and monthly vitamin D3 supplementation in pregnant women with VDD had beneficial effects on glycemic status, lipid profile and blood pressure. Randomized study of the effects of vitamin D and/or magnesium supplementation on mood, serum levels of BDNF, inflammation, and SIRT1 in obese women with mild to moderate depressive symptoms

Abstract:Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of vitamin D and/or magnesium supplementation on mood, serum levels of BDNF, inflammation, and SIRT1 in obese women with mild to moderate depressive symptoms. Methods: In this trial, the 108 obese women with mild to moderate depressive symptoms were randomly allocated into 4 groups: (1) co- supplementation group (n = 27): receiving a 50000 IU vitamin D soft gel weekly + a 250- mg magnesium tablet daily; (2) vitamin D group (n = 27): receiving a 50000 IU vitamin D soft gel weekly + a magnesium placebo daily; (3) magnesium group (n = 27): receiving a vitamin D placebo weekly + a 250- mg magnesium tablet daily; (4) control group (n = 27): receiving a vitamin D placebo weekly + a magnesium placebo daily, for 8 weeks. Before and after the intervention, anthropometric indices, depressive symptoms, serum levels of BDNF, 25(OH)-D, inflammation, and SIRT1, were measured. Results: At the end of the study, ANCOVA demonstrated significant differences between the 4 groups in 25(OH)-D, magnesium, TNF-α, IL-6, and BDNF levels. But, we found no significant differences in terms of hs-CRP and SIRT1 levels. A significant reduction in depression score was observed in 3 intervention groups and also in control group. No significant differences in BDI-II score were shown among the 4 groups at the end of the intervention. Conclusion: Vitamin D plus magnesium supplementation in obese women with mild to moderate depressive symptoms has beneficial influences on mood, serum levels of BDNF, inflammation, and SIRT1.

Abstract:Abstract The current systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was conducted to summarize the effect of vitamin D supplementation on biomarkers of inflammation and oxidative stress among women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Cochrane library, Embase, PubMed, and Web of Science database were searched to identify related randomized-controlled articles (RCTs) published up to November 2017. Two researchers assessed study eligibility, extracted data, and evaluated risk of bias of included RCTs, independently. To check heterogeneity Q-test and I2 statistics were used. Data were pooled by using the random-effect model and standardized mean difference (SMD) was considered as summary effect size. Seven RCTs were included into our meta-analysis. The findings showed that vitamin D supplementation in women with PCOS significantly decreased high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) (SMD −1.03; 95% CI, −1.58, −0.49; p <0.001) and malondialdehyde (MDA) (SMD −1.64, 95% CI −2.26 to −1.02, p <0.001), and significantly increased total antioxidant capacity (TAC) levels (SMD 0.86, 95% CI 0.08 to 1.64, p=0.03). Vitamin D supplementation had no significant effect on nitric oxide (NO) (SMD 0.11, 95% CI −0.44 to 0.66, p=0.69) and total glutathione (GSH) levels (SMD 0.54, 95% CI −0.20 to 1.28, p=0.15). Overall, the current meta-analysis demonstrated that vitamin D supplementation to women with PCOS resulted in an improvement in hs-CRP, MDA and TAC, but did not affect NO and GSH levels.

Abstract:To our knowledge, data on the effects of vitamin D supplementation on clinical symptoms and metabolic profiles in patients with endometriosis are limited. This study was conducted to determine the effects of vitamin D supplementation on clinical symptoms and metabolic profiles in patients with endometriosis.The current randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted among 60 patients (aged 18–40 years old) with endometriosis. Participants were randomly allocated into two groups (30 participants each group) to receive either 50,000 IU vitamin D or placebo each 2 weeks for 12 weeks.Vitamin D supplementation significantly decreased pelvic pain (β − 1.12; 95% CI, −2.1, −0.09; p=.03) and total-/HDL-cholesterol ratio (β − 0.29; 95% CI, −0.57, −0.008; p=.04) compared with the placebo. Moreover, vitamin D intake led to a significant reduction in high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) (β − 0.64 mg/L; 95% CI, −0.97, −0.30; p<.001) and a significant increase in total antioxidant capacity (TAC) (β 47.54 mmol/L; 95% CI, 19.98, 75.11; p=.001) compared with the placebo.Overall, our study demonstrated that vitamin D intake in patients with endometriosis resulted in a significant improvement of pelvic pain, total-/HDL-cholesterol ratio, hs-CRP and TAC levels, but did not affect other clinical symptoms and metabolic profiles.

Abstract:Introduction The results of previous studies regarding the effect of vitamin D on the incidence of preeclampsia are inconsistent. Therefore, the primary objective of the present review was to determine the effect of vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy on the risk of preeclampsia. Methods Five major scientific databases were searched from inception to June 10, 2023. Studies with randomized controlled trial designs were identified. To assess the methodological quality of the selected studies, the Cochrane Tool Checklist (CTC) was used. The random effect model was chosen as a combination model. Statistical heterogeneity was evaluated using the standard χ2 test, and the intensity of heterogeneity was calculated using I 2. Effect size indicators including risk ratio (RR), risk difference (RD), and number needed to treat (NNT) were calculated with estimated 95 % confidence intervals. Results Nineteen studies were included in the systematic review and meta-analysis. The pooled RR of preeclampsia in the intervention group compared to the control group was 0.61 (95 % CI, 0.47 to 0.78; I2 =14.4 %; χ2=23.37; p = 0.27; tau2=0.05), and indicated a 39 % reduction in the risk of preeclampsia. The pooled RD of preeclampsia in the intervention group compared to the control group was -0.03 (95 % CI: -0.05 to -0.01; I2 =45.5 %; χ2=36.68; p = 0.01; tau2=0.0008) and the difference in the risk of preeclampsia among women who received vitamin D supplements was 3 % less than the control group. The NNT was 29 (95 % CI: 20 to 52). Conclusion Vitamin D supplementation significantly reduces preeclampsia during pregnancy.

Abstract:Background: Postpartum Depression (PPD) is a common illness with long-term effects on mother and child. Nutrition is a crucial factor in mental health, but research findings on its connection to PPD are inconsistent. This review aims to explore the correlation between PPD and dietary patterns. Materials and methods: We conducted a comprehensive search of several databases including PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, ISI and ISI/Web of Science (WOS), Scopus, and Iranian databases such as Magiran, Scientific Information Database (SID), and IRANDOC from 2003 to 2020. Our search was based on the keywords "postpartum depression" and "nutrition, vitamin D, Folic acid, iron, zinc, and vitamins." We applied the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) checklist to select articles based on inclusion/exclusion criteria. Of the 100 articles identified, only 24 articles met our criteria and were selected for further analysis. Results: Research suggests that low levels of vitamin D, iron, folate, and carbohydrates, and an unhealthy diet lacking in vegetables are potential causes of PPD. However, the impact of zinc, omega-3 essential fatty acids, and other nutrients such as antioxidants, vitamin E, and vitamin C on PPD is unclear due to conflicting information. Additionally, limited research has been conducted on the association between group B vitamins and PPD. Conclusions: In conclusion, we can lower the risk of PPD by providing dietary guidance and working with healthcare providers. It is important to pay attention to our diet and make sure we are consuming enough vitamins and nutrients to support our mental health.

The effect of vitamin D levels on lipid, glucose profiles and depression in perimenopausal women

Abstract:Objective: Vitamin D deficiency is a significant problem that affects the population living in most countries. This issue is independent by place of residence, sex, age or skin color. It is mainly influenced by the environment we live in and by an unhealthy lifestyle, including bad eating habits. The aim of this study was to evaluate lipid profile, glucose levels, and vitamin D levels, considering sociodemographic variables, smoking and alcohol consumption in perimenopausal women. Depressive mood was also assessed considering sociodemographic variables and vitamin D levels. Patients and methods: The study was conducted on a group of 191 women and performed in two stages. The first of them was carried out using a diagnostic survey with the use of a technique questionnaire. The applied research instruments were the author's questionnaire (concerning sociodemographic and selected medical data), and the Beck Depression Inventory. The second stage of the study involved the collection of peripheral blood from each respondent, in order to determine lipid profile, glycemia and serum vitamin D levels. Results: The age of the female respondents ranged from 45 to 65 years, mean age was 53.1 ± 5.37 years, median 53 years. Vitamin D levels were below normal in 78%; 77% had elevated total cholesterol levels; 91.6% of the respondents had high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels within the normal range; 64.4% was characterized by too high (low-density lipoprotein) LDL cholesterol, and 84.8% of the women showed normal triglyceride levels. Among the respondents, 91.1% had normal glycemic levels. Analysis of the collected data showed a weak negative correlation between serum vitamin D levels and the levels of total cholesterol (rho=-0.14; p=0.05), LDL cholesterol (rho=-0.16; p=0.026), and triglycerides (rho=-0.22; p=0.002). Only in the case of HDL cholesterol (p=0.067), there was no statistically significant correlation. There were also no statistically significant correlations between serum vitamin D levels and glycemia or severity of depression. Conclusions: 1. The majority of the women did not manifest depressive disorders. Of all factors analyzed, only education was associated with the severity of depressiveness. 2. Smoking adversely affected serum vitamin D levels in the studied women. 3. The cessation of menstruation affected carbohydrate metabolism and vitamin D levels. Blood glucose levels increased with the age of the studied women. 4. Relationships were found between the levels of vitamin D and the levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides. Therefore, it is important to maintain normal vitamin D levels.
Is vitamin D status associated with depression, anxiety and sleep quality in pregnancy: A systematic review

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Women's mental health is a significant health issue for pregnant women during and after pregnancy. Postpartum depression (PPD) is defined as the presence of depression in the 1<sup>st</sup> year after delivery. This study reviews the relationship between Vitamin D levels, anxiety and poor sleep quality related to pregnancy.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A systematic search was conducted on documents presented in PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, Science Direct, Google Scholar and Web of Science databases until March 2020. Three separate search paths were considered for three different disorders with particular keywords. All observational studies that investigate the relationship between Vitamin D levels and PPD, sleep disorders, and anxiety were selected for inclusion in the study.RESULTS: Search yielded 14 eligible studies. Quality of most included studies was medium to high. Nine studies reported that Vitamin D deficiency was directly associated to the incidence of PPD and sleep disorders. One study reported an indirect association, and three researches did not observe any association between Vitamin D status, sleep disorders and PPD. One study reported a direct association to anxiety but did not have any relation to PPD.CONCLUSIONS: PPD and sleep quality during pregnancy associated to Vitamin D deficiency directly. Although studies have several limitations, the importance of sufficient Vitamin D status in pregnant women has been addressed in all studies, especially regarding the prevention of PPD, anxiety, and poor sleep quality during the pregnancy.
Vitamin D status in chronic dialysis patients with depression: a prospective study

Abstract:Background Depression is the most widely acknowledged psychological problem among end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients. Depression may be associated with VD deficiency. The aims of this study are to (a) elucidate the prospective association between HsCRP, VD contents and depressive symptoms in the dialyzed population, and (b) find the effect of calcitriol supplementation on depression in dialyzed patients. Methods In this prospective study, 484 dialysis patients (382 hemodialysis [HD] cases and 102 peritoneal dialysis [PD] cases; aged 18–60 years) from two hospitals in southeast China were included. The depression in these patients was evaluated using the Chinese version of Beck’s Depression Inventory (BDI). All subjects answered the BDI-I questionnaire for assessment of depression levels in summer. A cut-off value of 16 was set to include dialysis patients with depression. All patients were divided into two groups depending on the absence (Group1) or presence (Group 2) of depression. The two groups took 0.5 μg/day 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D orally for one year. BDI Scores were recalculated for all patients. Sociodemographic, clinical data, and serum VD contents were also collected. Results A total of 484 participants (247 men [51.0%] and 237 women [49.0%]) were surveyed. Depressive symptoms were found in 213 (44.0%) patients. The baseline serum VD level (VD2 + VD3) was 17.6 ± 7.7 nmol/L. Patients with depressive symptoms have significantly higher serum HsCRP level and significantly lower serum VD level compared with the control group. After one-year follow-up, the supplementation of 0.5 μg/day calcitriol slightly improved the microinflammatory state such as lowering mean serum HsCRP level and improving serum VD level, but not in significantly enhancing the depressive symptoms. Conclusions Calcitriol supplementation did not significantly enhance the depressive symptoms in our dialyzed population although patients with low levels of serum VD were more depressed. Therefore, more prospective randomized controlled trials are necessary to reveal the exact cause-and-effect relationship between VD status and depressive symptoms or VD status related to some specific subtypes in dialyzed patients.
Association between Vitamin D Levels During Pregnancy and Postpartum Depression: A Narrative Reviews

Abstract:Background: Postpartum Depression (PPD) is a serious depression that develops in the first year, with unknown explained reasons. Many studies evaluated the impact of Vitamin D (VD) levels on depression during pregnancy and postnatal. This narrative review aims to review any association between serum VD levels during pregnancy and the development of PPD. Materials and methods: PPD data from published trials and research articles (period from 2012 to 2022) were assessed through PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, and Google Scholar using the following terms: Depression, pregnancy, 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OH VD), vitamin D deficiency (VDD) and postpartum (PP). Articles were selected manually and with careful tracking to avoid duplication. Articles that investigated any association between VD levels during pregnancy and PPD in the time frame were included in the study, while articles investigating VD levels of PP without depression were excluded. Results: In this narrative review, five out of seven studies showed an association between PPD and VDD during pregnancy. Danish National Birth Cohort (DNBC), Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) enrolled among different studies from 3 days to 1 year PP to assess PPD. Conclusions: Pregnant women with VDD are significantly associated with PPD. Longitudinal follow-up studies are needed to evaluate the association between VDD with PPD. Screening VD levels among pre-postnatal mothers may be essential for awareness programs that can be implemented to promote remission of postnatal depression.

Abstract:PurposePsychological distresses and pre-diabetes are among the risk factors of developing type-II diabetes. The present study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of omega-3 and vitamin D co-supplementation on psychological distresses in women of reproductive age with pre-diabetes and hypovitaminosis D. MethodsThe present factorial clinical trial was conducted on 168 women of reproductive age with pre-diabetes and hypovitaminosis D. These participants were selected by stratified random sampling and were assigned to four groups for 8 weeks: group 1 (placebo group), group 2 (omega-3 group), group 3 (vitamin D group), and group 4 (co-supplement group). The medication and placebo doses being two 1000-mg tablets each day for omega-3 and 50,000-IU pearls every 2 weeks for vitamin D. Fasting blood glucose and vitamin D were measured at the beginning of the study. The Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index were completed by the participants at the start and end of the intervention. ResultsA significant difference was observed in terms of reduction in anxiety and improvement in sleep quality in the co-supplementation compared to the other three groups (p < .05). There was also a significant difference between the group receiving both supplements and the group receiving only placebos in terms of reduction in depression and stress (p < .05). ConclusionVitamin D and omega-3 co-supplementation improved depression, anxiety, and sleep quality in women of reproductive age with pre-diabetes and hypovitaminosis D. Therefore, these two supplements can be recommended for improving the mental health of this group of women. Clinical trial registryIranian Registry of Clinical Trials Code: IRCT20100130003226N17. Abstract:Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the effects of vitamin D supplementation on metabolic parameters in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Methods: A total of 60 PCOS women with vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency were enrolled in this randomized controlled trial. Participants were randomized to vitamin D group (2000 IU/day) or control group. The observational parameters were measured at baseline and after treatment, including body mass index (BMI), waist to hip ratio (WHR), oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and insulin release test, and lipid metabolism parameters. Results: The serum 25(OH)D concentrations at different time points after vitamin D supplementation were significantly higher than that in control group (P < 0.05). The BMI, WHR, insulin concentrations, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) concentrations in women of Vitamin D group after 12 weeks of treatment were significantly lower than that in women of control group (P < 0.05). The serum insulin concentrations and HOMA-IR at different time points of OGTT, serum TG, TC and LDL-C concentrations in women of vitamin D group (obesity) were significantly lower compared with control group (obesity) (P < 0.05). The BMI, WHR, TG, TC and LDL-C concentration in women of vitamin D group (IR) were significantly lower compared with control group (IR) (P < 0.05). No significant difference was observed in metabolic parameters between vitamin D group (non-obesity) and control group (non-obesity) (P > 0.05), and these differences of metabolic parameters were also not observed between vitamin D group (non-IR) and control group (non-IR) (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Vitamin D supplementation had beneficial effects on metabolic parameters in PCOS women, especially in women with obesity or insulin resistance.
