Abstract:As an emerging social technology, live streaming has facilitated a synchronous and interactive selling setting for e-commerce sellers and consumers. Despite growing operations management (OM) in e-commerce live streaming (ELS), prior literature has largely neglected the directive social operations of ELS broadcasters, which are crucial to a company's business operations and marketing strategies. To mitigate this gap, we investigate the effects of social call-to-actions (SCTAs), an ELS-specific directive social operation, on consumer purchase outcomes in ELS. To explicate the mechanisms driving the purchase effect of SCTAs, we draw upon the notions of cognitive and affective marketing appeals to categorize SCTAs into two types: cognitive and affective SCTAs. We measure broadcasters' SCTAs from ELS speech-to-text data using text-mining techniques and adopt econometric model estimations via an instrumental variables identification approach to quantify the relationships between ELS broadcasters' SCTAs and consumer purchases. Our results uncover a significant positive purchase effect of affective SCTAs but an insignificant effect of cognitive SCTAs on product-level purchase orders in ELS. Specifically, a one-unit increase in affective SCTA-related words per minute is related to increased purchase orders of a product by 0.43%, i.e., averaging a 1.10% growth in demand per minute. Additionally, we find that the effects of cognitive and affective SCTAs are contingent on product and broadcaster types. Our session-level mediation effect analysis verifies the underlying mechanisms that drive the purchase effects of broadcasters' SCTAs. Specifically, we find that cognitive SCTAs impede social engagements and thereby purchases, whereas affective SCTAs can boost social engagements, leading to increased session traffic and ultimately product sales in ELS. Our study provides novel empirical findings and important practical implications for ELS platforms and broadcasters.

Abstract:Information Development, Ahead of Print. Artificial intelligence (AI) has been applied to mobile fitness applications (MFAs) to improve users' continuance usage intention. Most of the literature has considered the adoption factors of MFA but has ignored the impact of AI effectiveness. To address this research gap, we develop a research model by integrating AI service quality and the theory of consumption value (TCV) to explore users' continuance intention. Using a survey approach, a total of 416 valid questionnaires were collected in China, and the model was tested using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The results show that functional, emotional, social, epistemic, and conditional values partially mediate the relationships between AI service quality and the continuance usage intention of AI-enabled MFAs. This study contributes to the literature by considering and examining the effect of AI service quality on users' assessment of different consumption values, which advances the understanding of the AI service quality function in AI-enabled MFAs.

Abstract:This study ventures into the burgeoning domain of artificial intelligence (AI)–powered advertising within mobile applications, addressing the critical gap in understanding how user experiences influence information interaction behavior. Leveraging the technology acceptance Model (TAM) and the Fogg behavior model (FBM), our research scrutinizes eight determinants — perceived usefulness, privacy, authenticity, experiential value, perceived ease of use, motivation, capability, and triggers — to delineate their impact on user engagement with intelligent advertising. Employing a survey alongside structural equation model analysis, we unveil that these determinants unanimously foster information interaction behavior, with motivation and capability mediating the relationships between user experience factors and information exchange. The findings elucidate the multifaceted nature of user engagement in AI-powered mobile advertising, highlighting the indispensable role of a user-centric approach in crafting effective and engaging advertising strategies. This study advances the intelligent advertising discourse by underscoring the criticality of user experience factors and offers pragmatic insights for advertisers aiming to harness AI for more personalized and immersive ad experiences. By emphasizing the necessity of balancing technological advancements with user experience considerations, our research provides a blueprint for leveraging AI to revolutionize mobile advertising strategies, aligning with the knowledge economy's focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, technology, and societal advancement.

Abstract:Purpose The television (TV) content ecosystem has shifted from traditional broadcasting systems to dedicated content producers and over-the-top (OTT) services. However, less empirical effort has been paid to the actual behaviors of the mobile users who watch TV content when explaining the impact of OTT service and mobile network profiles in watching TV content. This study aims to investigate the impact of gratifications and attitude formed by mobile TV users on actual mobile TV watching behaviors, as well as the moderating impacts of paid OTT service subscriptions and mobile network profiles, based on gratification theory, cognition–affect–behavioral (CAB) framework, sunk cost effect and walled-garden effect. Design/methodology/approach This study employs the generalized linear model (GLM) with generalized estimating equations (GEE) to test hypothesized relationships. A total of 338 mobile phone users who have been watching TV content using a mobile phone participated in the survey. The moderating variables, 4 types of paid streaming platform subscriptions, were classified based on the walled gardens formed by mobile telecom services. Findings The study's results revealed that obtained gratifications and opportunity constructs substantially influenced a mobile phone user's attitude and behaviors. Additionally, mobile network profiles and the degree of access to paid platform services played significant moderating roles in the relationship between users' attitudes and behavior. Originality/value This research enriches the existing OTT service literature and is one of the pioneering studies investigating the walled-garden effect's role in mobile phone users' actual watching behaviors, offering valuable practical implications for the OTT platform providers.

Abstract:Despite a growing body of research on AI adoption and use, the impact of various psychological and technological factors on users' decision-making processes remains largely understudied. To bridge this gap, this study examines the combined influence of self-efficacy, AI ethics, and technological factors on users' attitudes toward the use of AI technologies. Using an integrated theoretical model that combines self-efficacy theory and the technology acceptance model, this study conducted a nationwide survey in the U.S. ( N = 1252) to test the multistage process of determining users' attitudes toward the use of AI technologies. The results showed that perceived AI ethics plays a vital role in mediating between self-efficacy and technological factors, leading to a more positive attitude toward AI technologies. This study contributes to the AI adoption literature by advancing an integrated model to unveil the underlying mechanisms influencing users' attitudes toward AI. Theoretical and practical implications are further discussed.

Abstract:AI-based smart healthcare services are emerging as promising tools to improve efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare service delivery. This study aimed to examine the roles of trust and three AI-specific characteristics (i.e., personalization, loss of privacy, anthropomorphism) in public acceptance of smart healthcare services based on an extended Technology Acceptance Model. The model's validity was confirmed using a partial least squares structural equation modeling technique based on data collected from 769 survey samples. Multigroup analyses were conducted to determine whether the path coefficients differed by gender, age, and usage experience. The results showed that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and the three AI-specific characteristics were important determinants of public acceptance of smart healthcare services, whose roles were fully or partially mediated by trust. Trust, perceived usefulness, and personalization directly determined behavioral intention to use smart healthcare services. The relationships among antecedent factors and behavioral intention to use smart healthcare services were also moderated by gender, age, and usage experience. The study demonstrated the critical roles of personalization, loss of privacy, and anthropomorphism in shaping public trust and acceptance of smart healthcare services. The results offer important theoretical and practical implications for the design and implementation of such services.

Abstract:Low engagement rates and high attrition rates have been formidable challenges to mobile apps and their long-term success, especially for those whose revenues derive mainly from in-app purchases. To date, little is known about how companies can scientifically detect user engagement stages and optimize corresponding personalized-targeting promotion strategies so as to improve business revenues. This paper proposes a new structural forward-looking Hidden Markov Model (FHMM) as combined with a randomized field experiment on app notification promotions. Our model can recover consumer latent engagement stages by accounting for both the time-varying nature of users' engagement and their forward-looking consumption behavior. Although app users in most of the engagement stages are likely to become less dynamically engaged, this slippery slope of user engagement can be alleviated by randomized treatments of app promotions. The structural estimates from the FHMM with the field-experimental data also enable us to identify heterogeneity in the treatment effects, specifically in terms of the causal impact of app promotions on continuous app consumption behavior across different hidden engagement stages. Additionally, we simulate and optimize the revenues of different personalized-targeting promotion strategies with the structural estimates. Personalized dynamic engagement-based targeting based on the FHMM can, compared with non-personalized mass promotion, generate 101.84% more revenue for the price promotion and 72.46% more revenue for the free content promotion. It also can generate substantially higher revenues than the experience-based targeting strategy applied by current industry practices and targeting strategies based on alternative customer segmentation models such as k-means or myopic HMM. Overall, the novel feature of our paper is its proposal of a new personalized-targeting approach combining the FHMM with a field experiment to tackle the challenge of low engagement with mobile apps.

Abstract:The rapid development of technology has led to the prevalence of smart homes as one of the most prominent intelligent devices. This research aims to identify the factors that significantly influence individuals' intention to use smart homes and provide direction for efficient product positioning and updates. Drawing from the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Value-based Adoption Model (VAM), Innovation Diffusion Theory (IDT), and Maslow's Hierarchy Needs Theory, a comprehensive research model is introduced. The model incorporates external factors such as perceived value (PV), price perception (PP), safety perception (SP), social influence (SI), self-esteem (SE), and visual aesthetics (VA), while self-innovation (SINN) is considered a moderator with a conditional effect between perceived usefulness (PU) and PV. The research model was validated with 405 samples, and exploratory factor analysis was conducted. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to analyze the results, which indicate that: 1). customers' intention to use smart homes is significantly determined by PV and VA through PU and perceived ease of use (PEOU). 2). Additionally, SINN moderates the relationship between PV and PU negatively within a specific interval. 3). SE and SI have slight effects on PU or PEOU, while PP and SP have no direct effect. These empirical results provide valuable conclusions and implications for understanding suitable smart homes for customers and finding actionable directions for smart home development

Abstract:This paper present and discussed a multilevel analysis of digital reading acceptance intention and behavior. It aims to develop and extend the existing Technology Acceptance Model into digital reading products purchase behaviors by proposing, operationalizing, and testing emerging variables. The study utilized a survey approach to gathering data regarding consumers’ acceptance intention of digital reading products. Surveys were administered to 359 respondents from mobile readers. A hierarchical linear model was adopted to test the hypotheses generated from the model. Results show that perceived social benefit and trust affect acceptance of digital reading products and that ubiquitous connection and familiarity as antecedents of social benefit with a significant influence. The finding is a theoretical supplement of the acceptance behavior of multi-screen reading devices. The finding on consumer behavior analysis indicated that trust was outperformed by social influence in the mediating process at all levels and these differences were statistically significant. This study strongly endorses the view that the acceptance of mobile readers is linked to the extent of the context-aware and ubiquitous connection.

Abstract:Live streaming has emerged as a novel way for product sales, where the streamer plays an important role. However, little is known about how the differences between artificial intelligence (AI) streamers and human streamers impact consumer purchase intentions. Based on social cognitive theory, this study proposed a conceptual model exploring the influences of streamer types, novelty seeking, perceived intimacy, and perceived responsiveness on consumer purchase intention. Based on 387 responses from live streaming users, the results showed that compared with AI streamers, consumers have higher purchase intention when served by human streamers. Consumers perceive human streamers as having more perceived intimacy and perceived responsiveness compared to AI streamers, and perceived intimacy and perceived responsiveness positively affect consumer purchase intention. Furthermore, perceived intimacy and perceived responsiveness mediate the relationship between streamer types and consumer purchase intention. In addition, the moderating effects of novelty seeking on consumer purchase intention are significant. Specifically, lower novelty seeking consumers have higher purchase intentions for human streamers compared to AI streamers, and the mediation effects of perceived responsiveness will be stronger. However, for high novelty seeking consumers, there is no difference in the influence of AI streamers and human streamers on consumer purchase intention, and the mediation role of perceived intimacy will be weaker. This study enriches the theoretical research on AI and live streaming and provides management strategies for live streaming platforms to obtain better benefits through different types of streamers.

Abstract:A smart community provides various local services (i.e. smart community services [SCS]) to community residents through smart community platforms to improve their living environment and quality of life. The adoption of SCS by residents is critical to smart community initiatives, which is the concern of practitioners and researchers. However, few studies have empirically investigated factors affecting residents'willingness to adopt SCS. The present study empirically analysed how technological belief factors (i.e. perceived usefulness and enjoyment) and social influence factor (i.e. affective community commitment) influence SCS adoption intention. A total of 191 community residents in China were surveyed to test the research model. Results show that perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment and affective community commitment are significant drivers of SCS adoption intention. Moreover, affective community commitment attenuates the impact of perceived enjoyment but enhances the effect of perceived usefulness on SCS adoption intention. This study enriches the literature on IT acceptance and offers practical suggestions for practitioners.

Service Design in Application of Renewing and Redefining User Interface of Smart TV

Abstract:The use of broadband Internet has extensively affected human lives. Televisions turn immensely into smart and submissive devices since they are now connected to high- speed Internet connection. This changes the name of conventional televisions into Hybrid Internet Broadcast Television (Smart TV) and their basics features as well, which were known only broadcasted TV channels received from VHF and UHF frequency bands. Smart TV recently, moreover, has offered hundreds of features, unlimited access to any broadcast stations via the Internet, and possibility to response users’ inputs. Smart TV comes with User Interface (UI), which mostly receives interaction by users once they turn on their Smart TV. User Interface is the front-end that serves both receiving inputs and transmitting outputs to users to make them able to get their tasks done better. As definition of design, it is created to solve problems and simplify difficult things into affordable solutions. Yet the poor UI design offers longer completion time for the users, caused by changes of people’s behaviors and needs of Smart TV time by time. Improper layout designs and icons also can be troublesome experiences. This phenomenon has been happening and affecting the way users enjoy and experience the device recently. This research investigates user’s behaviors and needs and proposes new idea of renewing and redefining User Interface (UI) of Sampo Smart TV through Service Design methods. This research is also responding to previous multidisciplinary workshops that extracted Quality Function Development (QFD) Matrix and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) results. There are several crucial steps adapted from Service Design methods taken throughout design process, including observations and ideations in order to propose new design of UI creation. This research also deploys both SUS questionnaire and Gaze Tracker EyeLink 1000 Plus to evaluate and verify its results. These two methods are usability examinations of this research. Thus, eventually this research proves that by referring to Service Design Thinking method for renewing and redefining User Interface of Smart TV obviously guides this research comprehends the users deeper, and successfully offers better user experience on Smart TV’s UI. The verified UI may be further implemented into next generation of Smart TV, in terms of UI and concepts of Human-Computer Interaction, where the users in mind.

New platform and new excitement? Exploring young educated sport customers' perceptions of watching live sports on OTT services

Abstract:Purpose This study aims to investigate how sports customers adopted over-the-top (OTT) services to consume sport content. Inspired by the technology acceptance model (TAM), the study aims to understand users' behavior when consuming sporting events and users' perceptions toward OTT services. Design/methodology/approach The participants of the study are Chinese sports consumers that use streaming services to watch live sport content. An online survey was distributed through HUPU Sports, a Chinese online communication community where sports fans can share opinions. To make sure all responses qualified to take part in the study, skip logic questions were added at the beginning of the questionnaire to ask participants to answer whether they used streaming services for watching sports. A total of 352 responses were received and there were 327 useable questionnaires. Findings The results revealed that viewing convenience, free of commercials and viewing quality were the main reasons impacting them to adopt OTT services. In terms of users' perceptions, paid users rated higher in perceived enjoyment, perceived value, perceived usefulness (PU) and ease of use than nonpaid users. OTT users' fandom and PU could predict the time the users spent on using these services, while the users' fandom and perceived value are positively related to the money users spent on these services. In addition, this study also found that users' fandom, perceived value, content quality, and ease of use are positively associated with users' intention to continue to use the service. Originality/value The study is one of the first attempts to explore how sports audiences adopted OTT services to consume sport content and explore the audiences' perceptions toward OTT usage. Previous studies have already investigated how users adopted music streaming services (Fernandes and Guerra, 2019) and other online streaming services (Shin and Park, 2021), but little attention has been given to sports streaming services specifically. Therefore, the findings of the study fill the gap in the extant knowledge of sport consumers' behavior and provide more insights to their online behaviors. Moreover, the authors also contribute to the growing digital media literature by advancing our understanding perceptional differences between paid users and unpaid users. The streaming services literature has primarily focused on general users (Fernandes and Guerra, 2019), but the services neglect to understand the differences in between paid and unpaid users.

Abstract:Based on the stimulus-organism-response model, this paper constructs an extended version of the technology acceptance model and is targeted at university students. In addition to analyzing the factors which affect consumers' use of AI customer service, the factor analysis technique is also used to explore and understand the factors that play a key role in consumer behaviors under different shopping situations. Research has found that consumers use AI customer service mainly because they can save waiting time and solve problems effectively. Therefore, it is suggested that the dealers can use the two-way interactive conversation system, which covers natural language understanding, in-depth learning and emotion recognition technology to truly understand users' communicated semantics. Furthermore, they should use feedback data to improve the accuracy and service effectiveness of AI customer service responses. Through the human-machine cooperation approach and the integrated platform that provides multi-channel communication, this will further solve the problem of AI customer service not able to respond effectively to consumers. In addition, the dealer must provide different assistance according to the different attributes of these innovative adapters, for example, using the customer's browsing history, behavioral habits, and other required materials in order to conduct in-depth learning. This way they can accurately establish user portrait graph spectrum so as to provide more personalized services.

Abstract:By extending the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), this research proposes a comprehensive model to analyse the key drivers of AI chatbot use among university students. The research was conducted using an online survey of 450 respondents with experience of using AI chatbots, and quantitative analysis methods were used to collect and analyse the data. The findings indicate that perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEU) and interactivity (INV) significantly influence attitude (ATT), while ATT, perceived intelligence (PI) and perceived trust (PTR) significantly influence behavioural intention (BI). This study also contributes to the existing literature on college students’ intention to use AI chatbots, which is currently limited in China.

Abstract:With the rapid development of Internet technology, sports media consumption is migrating toward streaming. The online streaming of sporting events has become the important way of copyrights holders to engage sports fans, especially young fans. Therefore, it is vital to understanding users' willingness to pay (WTP). Given that previous studies of the livestream sports broadcasts online have not dealt with users' payment intention, the originality of this study is that it explore users' motivation by combining information system research with the consumer demand theory. The study aimed to examine the factors that influence users' payment intention to stream online sports by using the extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Data from questionnaires completed by 330 Chinese respondents determined how perceived usefulness, ease, enjoyment, and satisfaction, influence users' WTP. Satisfaction positively correlated with users' payment intentions, impacted WTP values, mediated ease of use. The analysis also revealed the necessity for broadcast platforms to improve satisfaction and to increase payment intentions.

In order to examine user acceptance of streaming media device, this study proposes an extended research model based upon flow theory and investigates the relationship among flow, perceived usefulness, product-related characteristics (i.e., content quality, functionality, ease of use, portability), and a manufacturer-related characteristic (i.e., trust). Partial least square methodology was employed to test the proposed model and corresponding hypotheses on data collected from 305 survey samples. The results showed that flow and perceived usefulness, two mediating variables, has a significant influence on usage intention. Among the four antecedents reflecting product-related attributes, content quality has the strongest effect on flow. Interestingly, functionality and ease of use affected only perceived usefulness in an indirect way through flow. Thus, flow mediates the effect of functionality and ease of use on perceived usefulness. This study discusses a number of implications and offers insights useful for both researchers and practitioners.

Abstract:By utilizing artificial intelligence and advanced sensors, smart Blood Glucose Management (smart-BGM) technology may offer dynamic glucose monitoring and personalized diet and exercise recommendations for diabetic patients. Patient's acceptance and compliance intention to this technology are critical to achieve the expected benefit. To identify influencing factors, a theoretical model was proposed and validated through questionnaire. A total of 510 valid responses were collected regarding their diabetic related information and responses to factors influencing acceptance and compliance intention. Findings suggest that initial trust emerged as a key factor, mediating cognitive beliefs' impact on attitudes toward smart-BGM technology. Compliance intention is primarily influenced by perceived behavior control, with positive contributions from compliance attitude and subjective norm. Attitudes toward smart-BGM technology indirectly shape compliance intention through compliance attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control. The findings provide some implications for the design, application, and promotion of smart-BGM systems and services.

Uncovering the Reasons behind Willingness to Pay for ChatGPT-4 Premium

Abstract:In the ever-evolving domain of artificial intelligence (AI), understanding how users interact with AI-driven solutions, like ChatGPT, has become vital. The purpose of this research is to explore factors influencing user satisfaction and their willingness to subscribe to ChatGPT's superior services. Employing partial least squares structural equation modeling, the study examines responses from 554 ChatGPT users. The results reveal that perceived intelligence and service quality of ChatGPT significantly influence perceived usefulness, knowledge management, and overall user satisfaction. Interestingly, while perceived usefulness notably augments user satisfaction, it doesn't directly drive willingness to subscribe to paid services. Similarly, knowledge management boosts satisfaction but doesn't affect payment readiness. Importantly, user satisfaction substantially encourages willingness to pay for advanced features. Personal innovativeness contributes to willingness to pay, but it doesn't modify the impacts of perceived usefulness, knowledge management, or satisfaction on payment readiness. Finally, perceived risk negatively impacts willingness to pay. These findings illuminate the intricate mechanisms governing user-AI interactions and factors determining their readiness for premium subscriptions. This research lays groundwork for future scholarly investigations of AI-user dynamics.
