Abstract:MXene-based materials have been widely studied recently for effective electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding due to the prominent intrinsic electrical conductivity. Nevertheless, the poor mechanical performance of pure MXene films limits the practical application in EMI shielding. Thus, we integrate MXene with aramid nanofiber (ANF) to develop a composite film with layered structure through a simple vacuum-assisted filtration method. The resulting ANF/MXene (20/80) composite exhibits a high electrical conductivity of 879.0 S/cm, EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of 40.6 dB and specific SE (SSE/t, SE divided by the density and thickness) of 50,491 dB.cm(2).g(-1) with an ultrathin thickness of 3.2 mu m. Furthermore, the ANF/MXene (60/40) realizes a balance between mechanical properties and EMI shielding performance with the strength of 201.3 MPa and SE of 28.1 dB, which enables the ANF/MXene composite films as promising EMI shielding materials with excellent mechanical robustness.

Abstract:The burgeoning development of wearable electronic devices has put forward urgent demands for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding films featured with superb fire-proof and heat dissipation capability. Herein, multifunctional fire-proof EMI shielding films with superb anisotropic thermal conductivity are constructed based on MXene and montmorillonite (MMT) via a simple vacuum-assisted filtration technique. The existence of MMT can protect the MXene from oxidation and endows the composite films exceptional fire-resistant ability. The impressive thermal conductive performance: high in-plane thermal conductivity (28.8 W m-1 K-1) and low cross-plane thermal conductivity (0.27 W m-1 K-1), ingeniously enables highly efficient in-plane heat dissipation and cross-plane heat insulation in the MXene-based films simultaneously. The high electrical conductivity (4420 S m-1) of the composite film enables superb EMI shielding efficiency over 65 dB in X-band and high specific shielding effectiveness over 10000 dB cm2 g-1 at a thickness of only 25 μm. Importantly, the EMI shielding efficiency is maintained over 60 dB even after burning for 30 s. Besides, the composite films show outstanding Joule heating performance with fast thermal response ( 10 s) and low driving voltage ( 5 V). These multifunctional films are highly promising for applications concerning fire protection, deicing, heat dissipation/insulation, and EMI shielding devices.
Nanofiber derived MXene composite paper for electromagnetic shielding and thermal management

Abstract:Despite the urgent demands in protecting wearable electronics from electromagnetic interference (EMI) in various conditions, it remains challenging to attain mechanically robust and flexible materials with both excellent EMI shielding and thermal managing performance. Herein, we report MXene composite paper that can provide multifunction with superior mechanical properties. To construct a hierarchical composite with 2D/0D reinforcements, the MXene paper is fabricated by hot pressing of electrospun Poly (vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) nanofibers incorporated with MXene nanosheets and carbon black nanoparticles. Due to the laminated structure connected by nanoparticles, the flexible composite paper shows remarkable mechanical strength and fatigue resistance that can provide stable EMI shielding effectiveness of 500 dB/mm even after 10000 th cyclic rolling. Moreover, the high in-plane electrical conductivity and out-of-plane thermal conductivity allow a fast electrothermal heating and cooling behavior, which qualifies the MXene paper as multifunctional surface for wearable electronics.

Abstract:MXene-based composite films are regarded as up-and-coming multifunctional electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials. However, the conflict between strong mechanical properties and high electrical conductivity hinders their application in modern integrated electronics. Herein, in virtue of density-induced sedimentation, robust and multifunctional liquid metals-reinforced cellulose nanofibers (CNF)/MXene (LMs-CNF/MXene) composite films with Janus structure are fabricated by one-step vacuumassisted filtration method. Not only does the nacre-like structure of the CNF/MXene layer not destroy, but the deposited liquid metals (LMs) layer can serve as conductive potentiation. Due to the special Janus structure, an "absorption-reflection-reabsorption" shielding process is created in LMs-CNF/MXene composite film to strengthen EMI shielding performance. Its shielding effectiveness can reach 51.9 dB at similar to 27 mu m, and the reflection coefficient falls to 0.89, below those of reported MXene-based shielding films. Meanwhile, the CNF/MXene layer can endow composite films with excellent mechanical properties with a super tensile strength of 110.3 MPa. Notably, the LMs-CNF/MXene EMI shielding composite films also integrate outstanding photo-/electrothermal conversion performances, which can effectively deice outdoors. The robust LMs-CNF/MXene EMI shielding composite films with satisfying photo-/electrothermal performances have extensive application prospects, such as aerospace, wearable electronics, and portable electronics. Mechanically Robust Flexible Multilayer Aramid Nanofibers and MXene Film for High-Performance Electromagnetic Interference Shielding and Thermal Insulation

Abstract:In order to overcome the various defects caused by the limitations of solid metal as a shielding material, the development of electromagnetic shielding materials with flexibility and excellent mechanical properties is of great significance for the next generation of intelligent electronic devices. Here, the aramid nanofiber/Ti3C2Tx MXene (ANF/MXene) composite films with multilayer structure were successfully prepared through a simple alternate vacuum-assisted filtration (AVAF) process. With the intervention of the ANF layer, the multilayer-structure film exhibits excellent mechanical properties. The ANF2/MXene1 composite film exhibits a tensile strength of 177.7 MPa and a breaking strain of 12.6%. In addition, the ANF5/MXene4 composite film with a thickness of only 30 μm exhibits an electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding efficiency of 37.5 dB and a high EMI-specific shielding effectiveness value accounting for thickness (SSE/t) of 4718 dB·cm2 g−1. Moreover, the composite film was excellent in heat-insulation performance and in avoiding light-to-heat conversion. No burning sensation was produced on the surface of the film with a thickness of only 100 μm at a high temperature of 130 °C. Furthermore, the surface of the film was only mild when touched under simulated sunlight. Therefore, our multilayer-structure film has potential significance in practical applications such as next-generation smart electronic equipment, communications, and military applications.

Abstract:High-performance electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials with ultraflexibility, outstanding mechanical properties, and superior EMI shielding performances are highly desirable for modern integrated electronic and telecommunication systems in areas such as aerospace, military, artificial intelligence, and smart and wearable electronics. Herein, ultraflexible and mechanically strong aramid nanofiber–Ti3C2Tx MXene/silver nanowire (ANF-MXene/AgNW) nanocomposite papers with double-layered structures are fabricated via the facile two-step vacuum-assisted filtration followed by hot-pressing approach. The resultant double-layered nanocomposite papers with a low MXene/AgNW content of 20 wt % exhibit an excellent electrical conductivity of 922.0 S·cm–1, outstanding mechanical properties with a tensile strength of 235.9 MPa and fracture strain of 24.8%, superior EMI shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of 48.1 dB, and high EMI SE/t of 10 688.9 dB·cm–1, benefiting from the highly efficient double-layered structures, high-performance ANF substrate, and extensive hydrogen-bonding interactions. Particularly, the nanocomposite papers show a maximum electrical conductivity of 3725.6 S·cm–1 and EMI SE of ∼80 dB at a MXene/AgNW content of 80 wt % with an absorption-dominant shielding mechanism owing to the massive ohmic losses in the highly conductive MXene/AgNW layer, multiple internal reflections between Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets and polarization relaxation of localized defects, and abundant terminal groups. Compared with the homogeneously blended ones, the double-layered nanocomposite papers possess greater advantages in electrical, mechanical, and EMI shielding performances. Moreover, the multifunctional double-layered nanocomposite papers exhibit excellent thermal management performances such as high Joule heating temperature at low supplied voltages, rapid response time, sufficient heating stability, and reliability. Enhanced Electromagnetic Shielding and Thermal Management Properties in MXene/Aramid Nanofiber Films Fabricated by Intermittent Filtration.

Abstract:High-efficiency electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and heat dissipation synergy materials with flexible, robust, and environmental stability are urgently demanded in next-generation integration electronic devices. In this work, we report the lamellar MXene/Aramid nanofiber (ANF) composite films, which establish a nacre-like structure for EMI shielding and heat dissipation by using the intermittent filtration strategy. The MXene/ANF composite film filled with 50 wt % MXene demonstrates enhanced mechanical properties with a strength of 230.5 MPa, an elongation at break of 6.2%, and a toughness of 11.8 MJ·m3 (50 wt % MXene). These remarkable properties are attributed to the hydrogen bonding and highly oriented structure. Furthermore, due to the formation of the MXene conductive network, the MXene/ANF composite film shows an outstanding conductivity of 624.6 S/cm, an EMI shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of 44.0 dB, and a superior specific SE value (SSE/t) of 18847.6 dB·cm2/g, which is better than the vacuum filtration film. Moreover, the MXene/ANF composite film also shows a great thermal conductivity of 0.43 W/m·K. The multifunctional MXene/ANF composite films with high-performance EMI shielding, heat dissipation, and joule heating show great potential in the field of aerospace, military, microelectronics, microcircuit, and smart wearable electronics.

Asymmetric and Flexible Ag-MXene/ANFs Composite Papers for Electromagnetic Shielding and Thermal Management

Abstract:Lightweight, flexible, and electrically conductive thin films with high electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness and excellent thermal management capability are ideal for portable and flexible electronic devices. Herein, the asymmetric and multilayered structure Ag-MXene/ANFs composite papers (AMAGM) were fabricated based on Ag-MXene hybrids and aramid nanofibers (ANFs) via a self-reduction and alternating vacuum-assisted filtration process. The resultant AMAGM composite papers exhibit high electrical conductivity of 248,120 S m−1, excellent mechanical properties with tensile strength of 124.21 MPa and fracture strain of 4.98%, superior EMI shielding effectiveness (62 dB), ultra-high EMI SE/t (11,923 dB cm2 g−1) and outstanding EMI SE reliability as high as 96.1% even after 5000 cycles of bending deformation benefiting from the unique structure and the 3D network at a thickness of 34 μm. Asymmetric structures play an important role in regulating reflection and absorption of electromagnetic waves. In addition, the multifunctional nanocomposite papers reveal outstanding thermal management performances such as ultrafast thermal response, high heating temperatures at low operation voltage, and high heating stability. The results indicate that the AMAGM composite papers have excellent potential for high-integration electromagnetic shielding, wearable electronics, artificial intelligence, and high-performance heating devices.

Abstract:Few-layered Ti3C2Tx MXene was prepared by ionic intercalation and sonication-assisted method. Porous three-dimensional (3D) Ti3C2Tx MXene/C hybrid foam (MCF) was fabricated by sol-gel followed by thermal reduction. The MCF/epoxy EMI shielding nanocomposites were obtained via vacuum-assisted impregnation followed by curing process. When the mass fraction of MCF was 4,25 wt% (MCF-5), the MCF-5/epoxy EMI shielding nano composites exhibited the optimal electrical conductivity of 184 S/m and the maximum EMI SE of 46 dB, 3.1 x 10(4) and 4.8 times higher than that of MCF-0/epoxy nanocomposites (without Ti3C2T MXene), respectively. Furthermore, the corresponding Young's modulus of 3.96 GPa and hardness of 0.31 GPa was increased by 13% and 11%, respectively. Conductive networks can realize the attenuation and dissipation of electromagnetic waves by multiple reflection & reabsorption, and absorption is main shielding mechanism. Unique 3D conductive networks of MCF would expand wider application of the Ti3C2T MXene/polymer-based nanocomposites in high-tech EMI shielding fields.
Highly flexible carbon nanotubes/aramid nanofibers composite papers with ordered and layered structures for efficient electromagnetic interference shielding

Abstract:Efficient electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials with high flexibility, thin thickness, excellent mechanical property, and superior EMI shielding performance are urgently needed for modern electronic devices in areas of aerospace, military, and wireless communication systems. Herein, highly flexible multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)/aramid fibers (ANFs) composite papers with ordered and layered structures were successfully fabricated via a facile vacuum-assisted filtration. The obtained composite papers exhibited high electrical conductivity, outstanding mechanical property, excellent EMI shielding performance of 41.7 dB at a low density of 0.7–0.8 g cm−3 and an average thickness of 0.3 mm. A parameter of the specific shielding effectiveness/thickness (SSE/t) was as high as 2395.8 dB·cm2 g−1, which was benefited from the layer structures and the formation of conductive networks inside composite papers. It is expected to provide a promising strategy to prepare high-performance nanocomposite papers for EMI shielding in the field of artificial intelligence or smart and wearable electronics.

Abstract:Abstract Although electrically conductive and hydrophilic MXene sheets are promising for multifunctional fibers and electronic textiles, it is still a challenge to simultaneously enhance both conductivity and mechanical properties of MXene fibers because of the high rigidity of MXene sheets and insufficient inter-sheet interactions. Herein, we demonstrate a core–shell wet-spinning methodology for fabricating highly conductive, super-tough, ultra-strong, and environmentally stable Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene-based core–shell fibers with conductive MXene cores and tough aramid nanofiber (ANF) shells. The highly orientated and low-defect structure endows the ANF@MXene core–shell fiber with super-toughness of ~ 48.1 MJ m −3 , high strength of ~ 502.9 MPa, and high conductivity of ~ 3.0 × 10 5 S m −1 . The super-tough and conductive ANF@MXene fibers can be woven into textiles, exhibiting an excellent electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding efficiency of 83.4 dB at a small thickness of 213 μm. Importantly, the protection of the ANF shells provides the fibers with satisfactory cyclic stability under dynamic stretching and bending, and excellent resistance to acid, alkali, seawater, cryogenic and high temperatures, and fire. The oxidation resistance of the fibers is demonstrated by their well-maintained EMI shielding performances. The multifunctional core–shell fibers would be highly promising in the fields of EMI shielding textiles, wearable electronics and aerospace.

Abstract:With the growing popularity of electrical communication equipment, high-performance electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials are widely used to deal with radiation pollution. However, the large thickness and poor mechanical properties of many EMI shielding materials usually limit their applications. In this study, ultrathin and highly flexible Ti3C2T x (d-Ti3C2T x, MXene)/cellulose nanofiber (CNF) composite paper with a nacre-like lamellar structure is fabricated via a vacuum-filtration-induced self-assembly process. By the interaction between one-dimensional (1D) CNFs and two-dimensional (2D) d-Ti3C2T x MXene, the binary strengthening and toughening of the nacre-like d-Ti3C2T x/CNF composite paper has been successfully achieved, leading to high tensile strength (up to 135.4 MPa) and fracture strain (up to 16.7%), as well as excellent folding endurance (up to 14 260 times). Moreover, the d-Ti3C2T x/CNF composite paper exhibits high electrical conductivity (up to 739.4 S m-1) and excellent specific EMI shielding efficiency (up to 2647 dB cm2 g-1) at an ultrathin thickness (minimum thickness 47 μm). The nacre-inspired strategy in this study offers a promising approach for the design and preparation of the strong integrated and flexible MXene/CNF composite paper, which may be applied in various fields such as flexible wearable devices, weapon equipment, and robot joints.
Ultrathin and Mechanically Robust Mussel Byssus‐Inspired MXene@Aramid Nanofibers Materials with Superior Endurance in Harsh Environments for Tunable EMI Shielding Performance

Abstract:Reducing the fire hazards caused by high power electromagnetic (EM) waves and maintaining operational status of EM interference (EMI) shielding devices in harsh environments have caught increasing eyesight. In this paper, a series of promising EMI shielding materials with mussel byssus‐inspired structure are accomplished via an efficient vacuum‐assisted filtration approach. The flexible multilayered MXene@ANF nacres reveal superior mechanical property compared with both self‐supporting MXene film and MXene@ANF mixture film. Meanwhile, these nacres exhibit both exceeding and tunable EMI shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of 40–60 dB in 8.2–12.4 GHz with a thickness of ≈20 µm and the absolute SE (SSEt) accomplishes 36641.94 dB·cm2 g−1. Besides, the exceeding thermal insulation of ANF offers the MXene nacres with an outstanding flame‐stopping capacity, and it can still block 99.99% EM waves after 2 min burning. Furthermore, MXene nacres perform superior endurance in harsh environment and retain EMI SE of 42 dB after the ultralow temperature damage. The EMI SE and fire safety of MXene@ANF with two typical structures, composite films and foam, are also systematically investigated. Therefore, this work is promising to fabricate tunable EMI shielding products with low fire hazards and high endurance in harsh environments. Mussel byssus‐inspired MXene@ANF films are successfully prepared and the structures of them are insightfully investigated. These MXene@ANF nacres exhibit superior electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performance in harsh environments, such as ultra‐low temperature, fire burning. And the shielding mechanism is systematically demonstrated. Thus, this work offers a promising approach to accomplish ultrathin EMI shielding products for working in harsh environments.

Abstract:MXene, two-dimensional layered transition metal carbides, nitride, or carbonitrides, have shown promise for ultrahigh electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding in flexible electronics and aerospace due to their intrinsic metallic conductivity and mechanical strength. However, weak interfacial interactions, void microstructure defects, and oxidative degradation can leave MXene sheets in a thermodynamically metastable state, resulting in poor EMI shielding and mechanical strength. Herein, we utilized abundant hydrogen-bonded ultrafine cellulose lamella (UCL) to sequentially bridging induced densification of MXene nanosheets. This resulted in improved the tensile strength, toughness, oxidative stability, resistance to ultrasonic decomposition, and super-foldable conductivity of MXene sheets. The resulting sheets (MXCS) exhibited high electrical conductivity of up to 7649 S cm −1 and ultrahigh weight-normalized shielding efficiency (SSE/t, 53003.45 dB∙cm 2 g −1 ), making them mechanically strong and highly conductive. The MXCS material has a tensile modulus of up to 10.9 ± 0.7 GPa and provides excellent weight-normalized shielding efficiency. Simultaneously, it is capable of enduring 100,000 repetitions of folding without experiencing any damage to its construction or fluctuations in conductivity. Furthermore, high-strength scalable MXCS sheets can be produced using doctor blade casting, commercial resin bonding, and aerogel calendering methods, without compromising their performance. This has significant scientific and practical application potential.

Abstract:Polymers are widely employed to improve the mechanical properties of transition metal carbides and/or nitrides (MXenes) for constructing high-performance electromagnetic interference (EMI) shields. The challenges involve the insulating-polymer-induced compromise of electrical conductivity and EMI shielding performance of the MXene-based composites and the employment of nonrenewable, petrochemical polymers. Here, the one-dimensional, ultrafine, sustainable cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) are efficiently employed to reinforce the MXene nanosheets, giving rise to high-strength, highly flexible biomimetic composites that maintain excellent electrical conductivity and EMI shielding effectiveness (SE). The freestanding MXene/CNC nanocomposites gain EMI SE values of 30 to 66 dB at thicknesses of approximately 2 to 14 μm, leading to ultrahigh specific SE and surface-specific SE values of 15,155 dB mm −1 and 54,125 dB cm 2 g −1 , respectively, which are comparable to those of the best EMI shields ever reported. Moreover, the excellent photothermal performance of the composite films was achieved, extending the application scenarios. Combined with the universal, facile, energy-efficient, and scalable ambient pressure drying preparation approach, the ultrathin, flexible, high-strength, and multifunctional CNC-reinforced MXene-based biomimetic films have shown great potential for applications in next-generation advanced flexible electronic or aerospace systems.

Abstract:High-performance electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials with excellent flexibility and superior thermal management properties are ideal candidates for aerospace, communication industry, artificial intelligence, and wearable electronics. Herein, MOF-derived nanowires/cellulose nanofiber (MAg/CNF) composite papers with Janus structure were prepared using a combination of two-step vacuum filtration and hot pressing. The resulting composite papers exhibit distinct electrical differences on both sides. The electrical conductivity of the /CNF side is 8.35×10−12 S/cm, while that of the AgNWs/CNF side is 990 S/cm. EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of the MAg/CNF composite papers reaches 82 dB in the X-band, benefiting from effective double-layer structure, the AgNWs conductive network and the permeability network for adequate dissipation of electromagnetic waves. Excellent EMI shielding performance is maintained even after being subjected to low temperature of −196 °C and bending cycles of 1000 times. In addition, the MAg/CNF composite paper-based electric heaters exhibit satisfactory heating temperatures at absolutely safe operating voltages for the human as well as sufficient stability and repeatability during repeated heating and cooling cycles. Therefore, our fabricated MAg/CNF composite papers with Janus structure present broad application prospects for high-performance EMI shielding and thermal management in low-temperature environment.

Abstract:MXene has been considered an advanced electromagnetic interference (EMI) material nowadays. However, the dense MXene films result in reflection-dominated electromagnetic shielding properties. The conjugation of magnetic metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and conductive MXene is an attractive strategy for constructing absorption-dominated EMI shielding materials. Herein, we demonstrate the carbonized zeolitic imidazolate frameworks/MXene/nanocellulose (CZMN) paper prepared by a two-step vacuum-assisted filtration (TVAF) method, which leads to the formation of bilayer structure (Lower layer as highly magnetic adsorption layer and upper layer as highly conductive reflection layer). The CZMN paper shows excellent conductivity (∼29800 S·m −1 ), good magnetism (13 emu·g −1 ), and high EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) up to 62.4 dB at 8.2 GHz with absorption-dominated EMI shielding (SE A /SE T up to 75%). More importantly, the effect of bilayer structure on the absorption and reflection of the electromagnetic waves are proved by experimental results. In addition, the total electromagnetic shielding performance of the prepared bilayer CZMN paper can be improved with the increase of the conductive layer content. At the same time, the absorption ratio can remain relatively stable. These features make the prepared bilayer CZMN paper a promising candidate for advanced equipment electromagnetic protection, military technology, and stealth materials.

Abstract:With the miniaturization of electronic devices, the creation of efficient and lightweight electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials is of imminent significance. In this context, we reported an electromagnetic shielding membrane with hydrophobic, antioxidative, and high temperature stability. The chemically cross-linked Aramid nanofibers (ANF)/MXene@Ga/Gd 2 O 3 (CAMG) nanocomposite membranes exhibit a considerable tensile strength and possess exceptional flexibility. The CAMG shielding membranes demonstrate multiple heterogeneous interfaces and a magnetic-dielectric synergistic system, thereby effectively enhancing the absorption shielding efficiency, with the specific shielding effectiveness per unit volume (SSE/t) reaching 6788 dB cm 2 g −1 . Furthermore, the composite membranes demonstrate remarkable electrothermal capabilities, acting as pliable heaters with notable, swiftly replicable, and consistent electrothermal effects at reduced voltages. Additionally, they possess superior heat dissipation efficiency and ensure a uniform heat dispersion. The exceptional electromagnetic shielding performance and multifunctionality of the C-ANF/MXene@Ga/Gd 2 O 3 shielding membranes imply their instructive relevance in next-generation fields such as flexible electronics and aerospace.

Abstract:In the current fast-paced digital world, electronic devices have become an inevitable part of our lives, contributing to increasing electromagnetic interference (EMI) that may unfavorably affect our health as well as the precision of miniaturized electronics. Therefore, developing efficient multi-functional EMI shielding materials is of immense interest and importance. EMI shielding technology requires materials possessing high conductivity, permeability, permittivity, processability, and corrosion resistance while being cost-effective and environmentally friendly. The EMI shielding characteristics of MXene, as a novel flourishing 2D material, have been extensively explored in recent years owing to its excellent electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties. Cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) that can be obtained from biomass and upcycling waste, benefiting from numerous advantages such as biodegradability, high aspect ratio, processability, and low cost, can be utilized as a matrix, binder, or derived carbon material. Amalgamating the outstanding properties of these two materials, this paper reviews recent advancements in the field of CNF/MXene nanocomposites. After a brief introduction on CNF and MXene, the role of the structure in the mechanism of attenuation of the electromagnetic wave is discussed. Emphasis is given to the effect of the type and content of the conductive material, thickness, and fabrication method on EMI shielding effectiveness and conductivity. An elaborate discussion on the gaps in achieving multi-functional and flexible composites based on CNF and MXene exhibiting high EMI shielding and potential application in aerospace and wearable sensors is reported as well.Graphical abstract
Ultrastrong Nanopapers with Aramid Nanofibers and Silver Nanowires Reinforced by Cellulose Nanofibril-Assisted Dispersed Graphene Nanoplates for Superior Electromagnetic Interference Shielding

Abstract:High-strength, lightweight, ultrathin, and flexible electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials with a high shielding effectiveness (SE) are essential for modern integrated electronics. Herein, cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) are employed to homogeneously disperse graphene nanoplates (GNPs) into an aramid nanofiber (ANF) network and silver nanowire (AgNW) network, respectively, producing high-performance nanopapers. These nanopapers, featuring nacre-mimetic microstructures and layered architectures, exhibited high tensile strength (601.11 MPa) and good toughness (103.56 MJ m-3) with a thickness of only 24.58 μm. Their specific tensile strength reaches 447.59 MPa·g-1·cm3, which is 1.74 times that of titanium alloys (257 MPa·g-1·cm3). The AgNW/GNP composite conductive layers exhibit an electrical conductivity of 12010.00 S cm-1, providing the nanopapers with great EMI shielding performance, achieving an EMI SE of 63.87 dB and an EMI SE/t of 25978.80 dB cm-1. The nanopapers also show reliable durability, retaining a tensile strength of 500.96 MPa and an EMI SE of 57.59 dB after 120,000 folding cycles. Additionally, they have a good electrical heating performance with a fast response time, low driving voltage, effective deicing capability, and reliable heating capacity in water. This work presents a strategy to develop a high-performance nanopaper, showing great potential for applications in electromagnetic compatibility, national defense, smart electronics, and human health.
