Abstract:In this note, the consensus problem of linear multi-agent systems with Markovian communication topology and time-varying delay is investigated. The topology of network is switched by Markovian process and the time-delay is considered to be time-varying and has a lower and upper bounds. A sufficient condition of mean square consensus is obtained in terms of linear matrix inequalities, and based on the condition, a controller design method is presented such that the multi-agent systems reaches to mean square consensus.

Abstract:In this paper, the leader-following consensus problem of high-order multiagent systems via event-triggered control is discussed. A novel distributed event-triggered communication protocol based on state estimates of neighboring agents is proposed to solve the consensus problem of the leader-following systems. We first investigate the consensus problem in a fixed topology, and then extend to the switching topologies. State estimates in fixed topology are only updated when the trigger condition is satisfied. However, state estimates in switching topologies are renewed with two cases: 1) the communication topology is switched or 2) the trigger condition is satisfied. Clearly, compared to continuous-time interaction, this protocol can greatly reduce the communication load of multiagent networks. Besides, the event-triggering function is constructed based on the local information and a new event-triggered rule is given. Moreover, “Zeno behavior” can be excluded. Finally, we give two examples to validate the feasibility and efficiency of our approach.

Abstract:This article is concerned with the event-triggered output consensus problem for heterogeneous multiagent systems (MASs) with nonuniform communication delays. Unlike the existing event-triggered consensus results, more general heterogeneous linear MASs and nonuniform communication delays are considered. To reduce communication among subsystems, novel dynamic periodic event-triggered mechanisms are proposed. By using the event-triggered signals at the previous sampling instant, new distributed observers are designed to eliminate asynchronous behavior caused by nonuniform communication delays. Based on the developed observers, the observer error system is converted into a time-delay system with interval time-varying delays. Besides, a controller is designed by using the states of observers. It is shown that the consensus problem can be solved by the proposed method. Finally, an illustrative example is provided to verify the effectiveness of the developed method.

Abstract:An event-triggered leader-following consensus problem for multi-agent systems with nonlinear dynamics was investigated in this study. The interaction topologies among the agents that we considered are randomly switched ones, governed by a semi-Markov process with partially unknown rates. By building the state error model between the leader and followers, the consensus problem is first converted into a stability problem. Moreover, an event-triggered transmission scheme based on sampling data was proposed to reduce communication redundancy. The consensus controller and event-triggered parameters can be designed effectively. By constructing a Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional (LKF) with a triple integral, the sufficient conditions required to guarantee the event-triggered consensus can be reached with respect to the linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Ultimately, the validity of the theoretical results is demonstrated by a numerical example.

Abstract:A distributed event‐triggered data‐based control protocol is proposed for a class of unknown nonlinear heterogeneous multi‐agent systems (MASs) to address consistent reference signal tracking issue subject to the limited communication bandwidth. First, an event‐triggering condition that only relies on local output data of each agent is designed, and the event‐triggered communication between different agents depends on this condition. Second, agent models are constructed dynamically using dynamic linearization technology. Third, a novel distributed data‐driven control strategy based on event‐triggered communication mechanism is designed for heterogeneous agents to realize consistent desired trajectory tracking mission under switching topologies. The proposed control protocol is characterized by the information transmission of each agent in a fully intermittent manner without any global I/O (Input and Output) data. On this basis, convergence performance is analyzed using the principle of compressed mapping. Results showed that the tracking error of all agents is uniformly bounded. Effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through two numerical experiments.

Abstract:This article, based on dissipativity theory, aims to tackle the consensus tracking issue for Lipschitz nonlinear singular multiagent systems (MASs) with switching topologies and communication delays. Rooted at the leader node, a directed spanning tree is assumed to be contained in the union of all possible interaction graphs. Within the framework of topology switching controlled by a Markov chain, communication delays encountered in the data transmission process are reasonably considered to be time-varying and dependent on Markovian jump modes. By using tools from the stochastic Lyapunov functional technique, algebraic graph theory, and strict (Q, S, R) - (alpha) over bar dissipativity analysis, the consensus controller collecting delayed in-neighboring agents' information is designed to ensure stochastic admissibility and strict dissipativity of the resulting consensus error system. The theoretical analysis is validated by numerical simulations.

Abstract:Summary In this article, for switched nonlinear time‐delay multi‐agent systems (MASs) under directed graphs, an adaptive event‐triggered (ET) consensus problem is investigated. Each agent's switching signal is allowed to be arbitrary and asynchronous. To save communication resources, an adaptive ET consensus strategy is designed. In addition, the Pade approximation approach is introduced to transform the system into an input delay‐free system. A Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional is employed to analyze the effect of time‐varying delays on system stability. It is proved that the consensus errors of switched NMASs are bounded, and the Zeno behavior does not exist. Finally, the presented strategy's effectiveness is verified by simulation results.

Abstract:Considering limited system configurations and communication network bandwidths, this paper proposes two fully distributed event-triggered control schemes, namely synchronous and asynchronous communication, to solve the optimal consensus problem of linear multiagent systems (MASs) with Markovian switching topologies. The concept here is to design a novel composite dynamic event-triggered mechanism for each agent (using the information of all neighbors and one of them), based on which two fully distributed event-triggered protocols are designed to reach consensus and minimize a global convex team performance function. The effectiveness of the proposed control schemes is analyzed theoretically, that is, the optimal consensus problem can be realized, and the MAS does not exhibit Zeno behavior. Compared with existing optimal consensus results, the outstanding advantage of the proposed schemes is that a fully distributed asynchronous event-triggered communication scheme is designed, which fills the gap of optimal consensus results in this respect.

Abstract:This article addresses the fixed-time average consensus problem of nonlinear multiagent systems (MASs) subject to input delay, external disturbances, and switching topologies. Different from the finite-time convergence, the convergence time of the fixed-time convergence is independent of initial conditions. Then, an event-based control strategy is presented to reach the fixed-time average consensus under switching topologies and intermittent communication. Because the nonlinear dynamics, external disturbances, switching topologies, and triggering condition for intermittent communication are considered, the fixed-time consensus problem is more challenging under the event-based control than under the continuous-time control. Besides, a new measurement error is designed based on the hyperbolic tangent function to avoid Zeno behavior. Furthermore, an improved triggering function is designed to avoid continuous monitoring. Hence, resource consumption is reduced significantly. Finally, the effectiveness of the algorithms is validated by three simulation examples.

Abstract:This paper presents a solution to the consensus problem for a particular category of uncertain switched multi-agent systems (MASs). In these systems, the communication topologies between agents and the system dynamics are governed by a time-homogeneous Markovian chain in a stochastic manner. To address this issue, we propose a novel neuroadaptive distributed dynamic event-triggered control (DETC) strategy. By leveraging stochastic Lyapunov theory and matrix inequality methodology, we establish sufficient conditions for practical ultimate mean square consensus (UMSBC) of MASs using a combination of neural networks (NNs) adaptive control strategy and DETC method. Our approach employs a distributed adaptive NNs DETC mechanism in MASs with unknown nonlinear dynamics and upgrades it at the moment of event sampling in an aperiodic manner, resulting in significant savings in computation and resources. We also exclude the Zeno phenomenon. Finally, we provide numerical examples to demonstrate the feasibility of our proposed approach, which outperforms existing approaches.

Abstract:This article investigates exponential mean square consensus (MSC) problem of leader-follower multi-agent systems (MASs). It is considered that the communication topology switches randomly and obeys a semi-Markov process. In view of possible data loss in information transmission, stochastic sampling scheme is introduced. Meanwhile, mode-dependent event-triggered control strategy based on sampled data is adopted to decrease communication broadband. The two cases that the transition rate matrix (TRM) of semi-Markov process is completely or partially known are respectively discussed. As a result, several sufficient conditions which can ensure to achieve exponential MSC are respectively deduced by means of stochastic Lyapunov theory and linear matrix inequality (LMI) theory. At last, two simulation tests corresponding to completely and partially known TRMs are designed to verify the correctness of the obtained conclusions.

Abstract:This paper addresses the event-triggered consensus tracking for general linear multi-agent systems with nonlinear uncertainty dynamics under directed communication topology. The proposed event-triggered consensus strategy relaxes the assumptions in existing works that the control gain and local inputs must be continuous. With the consensus tracking condition being satisfied, the cooperative control law with bounded parameter is developed based on the intermittent samples. It shows that if the sampling condition, in terms of LMIs, is satisfied, the resulting closed-loop general linear multi-agent uncertain systems will achieve the consensus. Simulation results are provided to verify the proposed approach.

Abstract:This paper considers the distributed event-triggered consensus control problem for neutrally stable linear multi-agent systems with jointly connected switching graphs. The switching nature of topologies coupled with event-triggered communications makes it troublesome to design distributed event-based protocols. We propose a novel event-based protocol that guarantees the achievement of consensus and the exclusion of the Zeno behavior. Compared to previous works which study event-based consensus for either fixed graphs or switching graphs connected at every moment, the main contribution of this paper is that the proposed event-based protocol can be used for general switching graphs, including fixed graphs as a special case. Another important feature, that the interval between any two triggering events is strictly positive, ensures the feasibility of the proposed protocol in implementation.

Abstract:This paper presents a fixed-time consensus problem for multi-agent systems (MASs) with nonlinear dynamics and uncertain disturbances, the event-triggered strategy is proposed to address this issue. Firstly, based on event-triggered control theory, a fixed-time consensus protocol is proposed, which can avoid continuous communication and greatly reduces the power consumption of proposed protocols. Secondly, based on graph topology, fixed-time control method and Lyapunov theory, the novel fixed-time consensus criteria of MASs with nonlinearity under Lipschitz condition and uncertain disturbances bounds is derived via the designed protocols. Furthermore, the consensus can be guaranteed by setting the proper parameters, it should be pointed out that for any given initial state, the MASs can reach consensus within the setting time. Thirdly, by utilizing the above control strategy, the MASs have no Zeno behavior. Finally, two simulation examples and the practical application of unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) verify the reliability of proposed control scheme.

Abstract:This article focuses on a finite-time consensus of nonlinear multi-agent systems (MASs) by state-constraint impulsive control protocol. Different from the traditional impulsive control strategy, a state-constraint impulsive control protocol is raised to enhance the stability of MASs, where the discontinuous controller constrains the intensity of the impulsive control to a specific range, avoiding the deviation between the actual impulsive control intensity and theoretical impulsive control intensity. Contrasted to the traditional infinite-time convergence, the finite-time control mechanism shortens the setting time greatly and improves the robustness of the system by introducing finite-time control parameters and fractional powers theory. Then, the delayed system with switching topologies is analyzed to promote the preciseness and reliability of nonlinear MASs. Eventually, several numerical simulations are implemented to expound and prove the reasonableness of the algorithms.

Abstract:This article studies consensus of linear multi-agent systems (MASs) on undirected graphs. An adaptive event-triggering protocol is constructed for consensus control by using relative information between agents. Sufficient conditions are established for consensus of linear MASs without and with external disturbances, respectively. Zeno behavior is proved to be excluded. Moreover, a self-triggered realization based on sampled information is formulated for the protocol. Since the proposed protocol incorporates both adaptive control and event-triggered control, it can be implemented in a fully distributed way and only makes use of the sampled relative information between neighboring agents. Two numerical examples are finally provided for demonstrating the effectiveness and advantages of the theoretical results.

Abstract:The consensus problem of discrete time-varying linear multi-agent systems (MASs) is studied in this paper. First, an event-triggered intermittent control (ETIC) protocol is designed, aided by a class of auxiliary functions. Under this protocol, some sufficient conditions for all agents to achieve consensus are established by constructing an error dynamical system and applying the Lyapunov function. Second, in order to further reduce the communication burden, an improved event triggered intermittent control (I-ETIC) strategy is presented, along with corresponding convergence analysis. Notably, the difference between the two control protocols lies in the fact that the former protocol only determines when to control or not based on the trigger conditions, while the latter, building upon this, designs new event trigger conditions for the update of the controller during the control stage. Finally, two numerical simulation examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:This article studies the leader-following consensus of multiagent systems (MASs) with completely event-triggered mechanisms (CETMs) and directed switching topologies. When most event-triggered schemes in MASs only reduce each agent's data transmissions to neighbor agents, CETMs further reduce data transmissions to actuators with one triggered function in each agent. To guarantee the switching links utilized by CETMs contain a directed spanning tree at any time, triggered decisions are improved to include the instants at which each agent's output links or leader link change. Furthermore, a less conservative method based on matrix inequalities is combined to minimize the allowable average dwell time (ADT) of switching topologies under the design conditions of CETMs. Based on multiple Lyapunov functions (MLFs), the sufficient conditions for controller gains that guarantee the leader-following consensus of MASs are proposed when the ADT of switching topologies is larger than the allowable value. Finally, an example of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) is given to illustrate the effectiveness of CETMs.

Abstract:This paper investigates the fixed-time event-triggered average consensus of nonlinear multi-agent systems (MASs) with external disturbances and switching topologies. Compared with the existing fixed-time event-triggered consensus results, we consider the nonlinear uncertainties, external disturbances and switching topologies simultaneously in this paper. Moreover, we extend the fixed-time event-triggered consensus results to the nonlinear MASs with switching topologies. The fixed-time average consensus is obtained via event-triggered control (ETC). Hence, the energy consumption and the frequency of the controller update can be reduced significantly. Furthermore, there is no Zeno behavior under the proposed average consensus control strategies.

Abstract:This study investigates the consensus control issue in discrete-time linear multi-agent systems (MASs) using data-driven control under undirected communication networks. To alleviate the communication burden, an adaptive event-triggered control strategy involving only local information is proposed and a model-based stability condition is derived that guarantees the asymptotic consensus of MASs. Furthermore, a data-based consensus condition for unknown MASs is established by combining a data-based system representation with the model-based stability condition, using only pre-collected noisy input-state data instead of the accurate system information a priori. Specifically, both model-based and data-driven event-triggered controllers can be utilized without requiring any global information. The validity and correctness of the controllers and associated theoretical results are demonstrated via numerical simulations.
