Abstract:The extraction and characterization of bioactive compounds from bamboo shoot shell was performed under ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) along with UPLC-Triple-TOF/MS analysis. Under optimized UAE conditions (ethanol concentration (58%), liquid to solid ratio (24 mL/g), extraction temperature (59 °C), and sonication time (29 min)), total phenolic content (TPC) was recorded highest as 85.3 mg GAE/g DW, while DPPH and FRAP antioxidant activities were 77 μmol AAE/g DW and 33 μmol AAE/g DW, respectively. Using UPLC-Triple-TOF/MS analysis, fifteen phenolic acids, seven flavonoids, nineteen organic acids, two iridoid glucosides, and one neoglinan were identified. Among them, p -coumaric acid (119 μg/g DW), chlorogenic acid (87 μg/g DW), rutin (39 μg/g DW), and ferulic acid (17 μg/g DW) were found to be the most abundant phenolic compounds. Furthermore, compounds including phenolic acids (3 -p- coumaroylquinic acid, cryptochlorogenic acid, 3 -O- feruloylquinic acid, 5 -O- feruloylquinic acid, 3 -O- caffeoylshikimic acid, 5 -p- coumaroylquinic acid, 1,3-dicaffeoyl quinic acid, 3,5-dicaffeoyl quinic acid), flavonoids (schaftoside/c-hexosyl-c-pentosylapigenin, apigenin 6,8-di-C-α- l -arabinopyranoside, kaempferide 3 -O- α- l -rhamnopyranosyl(1->6)-β- d -glucopyranoside, 6-C-β- d -glucopyranosyl-8-C-α- l -arabinopyranosylchrysin, narcissin), some organic acids, iridoid glucosides, and neolignan were also detected for the first time from bamboo shoot shell extract. The present study revealed that bamboo shoot shell extract contains a larger number of nutraceutically active compounds which can be further utilized by food and nutraceutical industries.

Abstract:Tea (Camellia sinensis L.) fruit peel, the main byproduct during the manufacture of tea seed oil, was used as raw material for the recovery of phenolic antioxidants. The effect of ethanol concentration, extraction time, and extraction temperature on total phenolic content (TPC) and ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) of the extracts from tea fruit peel was investigated. The maximum predicted TPC (47.5 mg GAE/g dry peel) was obtained under the optimum recovery conditions (43% ethanol, 60°C, and 33 min) given by using response surface methodology (RSM). A high correlation (R2 = 0.929, p < 0.01) between TPC and FRAP value was identified by linear regression analysis. Furthermore, gallocatechin (GC) and epigallocatechin (EGC) were found to be the major individual catechins in the extracts from tea fruit peel. Ethanol/aqueous extraction has been presented as an effective method for the recovery of phenolic antioxidants from tea fruit peel.

Abstract:Magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) have been widely applied in a variety of sample preparation techniques. Herein, Fe3O4@pDA as the sorbents for MSPE, were developed for the determination of phenolic acids and flavonoids in fruit wine samples in combination with LC-MS/MS. The Fe3O4@pDA were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Superconducting Quantum Interference Device Magnetometer (SQUID) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) in detail. In the present study, a new, rapid, and efficient MSPE by LC-MS/MS was established for the extraction and sensitive detection of phenolic acids and flavonoids. Under the optimized condition of extraction procedure including the pH value of 4.0, 10 mg of Fe3O4@pDA, 60 s extraction time, and 600 μL desorption solvent volume, good responses were investigated. Results showed that the limits of detection (S/N = 3) for phenolic acids and flavonoids were in the range of 0.01-0.29 ng/ mL. The correlation coefficients of all analytes were more than 0.9985. The method was satisfactorily used for the detection of eleven analytes, and the recoveries of these targets for the two spiked wines (white grape wine and litchi wine) ranged from 80.03 to 116.68% and from 84.00 to 116.1%, respectively.

Abstract:A fast and efficient dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) method was developed for extraction of phenolic compounds from red, rose, or white wine followed by HPLC determination in this study. After different extraction solvents and conditions were evaluated, the fastest and highest efficiency extraction of 12 phenolic compounds including gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, chlorogenic acid, catechin, vanillic acid, caffeic acid, syringic acid, epicatechin, p-coumaric acid, trans-ferulic acid, quercetin, and kaempferol was achieved by using 1000 μL of ethyl acetate as an extraction solvent and 500 μL of acetonitrile as a dispersive solvent. The mixtures of solvents were mixed with 1000 μL of wine sample for 10 s of extraction time. The extractions were carried out two times. Under the optimal condition, the extraction recoveries of 12 phenolic compounds were in a range from 76.56 to 137.74%. Meanwhile, the linearity, sensitivity, and precision of an optimized HPLC analysis method were evaluated. The results showed that each phenolic compound had a good regression coefficient (R2). The limits of detections and quantifications for all the 12 compounds were at 0.001 to 0.133 and 0.004 to 0.433 mg/L, respectively. The relative standard deviations of intra- and inter-day determinations of the 12 compounds were below 6.58 and 4.11%, respectively. The results showed that the red wines had the highest concentration of total phenolic compounds (48.74–196.07 mg/L), followed by the rose wine (31.11 mg/L) and white wine (11.18–30.39 mg/L). Catechin was the dominant phenolic in all the wines (exception of wine sample W8) and ranged from 3.02 to 72.89 mg/L. In general, the developed dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction with HPLC analysis is a fast and efficient method to determine the phenolic compounds in wine.

Abstract:A sensitive method based on the use of green deep eutectic solvents (DESs) was designed for the determination of bisphenol-A, bisphenol-AF, tetrabromobisphenol-A and 4-tert.-octylphenol followed by HPLC. This method takes advantage of magnetic solid-phase extraction purification and acid-base induced DES liquid-liquid microextraction. The Mg(II)-Al(III) layered double hydroxide-coated magnetic nanoparticles were selected to purify samples. The DESs were systematically prepared by a range of medium-chain saturated fatty acids (C8-C12) and D,L-menthol. The melting point and the extraction efficiency of phenolic compounds were adjusted by changing the carbon chain length of fatty acid in suitable proportions. Acid-base induction significantly improves the extraction efficiency. The method has lower limits of detection ranging from 6 to 11 ng L−1, good linearity (0.05–500 μg L−1) and high enrichment factors (86–91). The method was successfully applied for the determination of four phenolic compounds in beverage samples. Abstract:A molecularly imprinted triazine-based conjugated microporous polymer composite with rich porosity and good selectivity was prepared and used as the adsorbent of solid-phase extraction (SPE). The composite-based SPE for the three phenolic endocrine disrupting chemicals (nonylphenol, octylphenol and bisphenol A) in different beverages followed by derivatization with heptafluorobutyric anhydride and then detection by gas chromatography-electron capture detector was developed. The variables mainly affecting the extraction and derivatization were evaluated. Under the optimal conditions, the limits of detection (S/N = 3) of the established method for the analytes ranged from 0.12 to 1.20 μg L −1 . The linear response range of the method was 0.40–50.0 μg L −1 , with the coefficients of determination falling in the range of 0.9906–0.9994. The relative recoveries of the phenolic endocrine disrupting chemicals in spiked beverage samples at three concentration levels (high, middle, and low) were in the range of 80.6% −117% with the relative standard deviations of 3.5%-11%. The established method exhibits a potential in the monitoring of trace phenolic endocrine disrupting chemicals in real beverage samples.

Abstract:Lumbar encephalography performed in accordance with modern principles may be successfully employed in cases of increased intracranial pressure. It has entirely replaced ventriculography in the examination of supratentorial expansive processes at Serafimerlasarettet and has been found to be superior to ventriculography in the demonstration of extracerebellar tumors in the posterior cranial fossa (LINDGREN 1950, LILIEQUIST 1959). Ventriculography, however, is still generally regarded as the only reliable pneumographic method available for the demonstration and localization of tumors of the cerebellum and, in many centres, of the pons as well. The localization has almost exclusively been based upon changes in the shape and position of the aqueduct and fourth ventricle, and the accompanying changes in the subarachnoid cisterns are little known or are considered to be unreliable for this purpose. . Lumbar encephalography has been used for several years at our hospital in the examination of clinically probable expansive processes of the posterior cranial fossa even in the presence of increased intracranial pressure. The writer in a previous publication has described the changes that occur in the subarachnoid cisterns with pontine angle tumors, and in this report will describe the essential changes in the cisterns which occur with expansive processes of the cerebellum and pons and which permit the localization of these tumors by the use of lumbar encephalography. Abstract:In this work, a porous extended network covalent organic framework designated as TP-NDA-COF was synthesized by the reaction of 2,4,6-trihydroxy-benzene-1,3,5-tricarbaldehyde (TP) and 1,5-naphthalenediamine (NDA). The structure and morphology of the TP-NDA-COF was characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The TP-NDA-COF was applied as a solid-phase extraction adsorbent for the extraction of some chlorophenols from water and lemon black tea beverage samples prior to high performance liquid chromatography-UV detection. The main experimental parameters that affect the extraction efficiency including the type and volume of eluent, sample solution volume, sample loading rate and sample solution pH were investigated. Under the optimal conditions, the calibration curves were linear in the range of 0.30-60 ng mL−1 with the determination coefficients (R2) of 0.9996-0.9998 for water samples and in the range of 0.60-60 ng mL−1 with the R2 values from 0.9990 to 0.9996 for beverage samples. At the signal to noise ratio of 3 (S/N = 3), the method LODs for the analytes were 0.10-0.15 ng mL−1 for water samples and 0.20-0.50 ng mL−1 for lemon black tea beverage, respectively. Good repeatability was achieved with the relative standard deviations of less than 7%. The results showed that the SPE-HPLC method can be used for the determination of chlorophenols in environmental water and foodstuffs samples.

A new method for simultaneous determination of 14 phenolic acids in agricultural soils by multiwavelength HPLC-PDA analysis

Abstract:There are phenolic acids with allelopathy in the rhizosphere soil of plants. At present, the identification and quantification of phenolic acids in different matrix mixtures is usually analysed by high performance liquid chromatography, but the detection of phenolic acids in soil has rarely been studied. As well as, previous studies have evaluated a limited number of target compounds. In this work, we proposed and verified a method for quantitative determination of 14 phenolic acids, including gallic acid, vanillic acid, p -hydroxybenzoic acid, protocatechuic acid, caffeic acid, syringic acid, p -coumaric acid, ferulic acid, chlorogenic acid, benzoic acid, salicylic acid, 2-methoxycinnamic acid, 3-methoxycinnamic acid, and cinnamic acid, which are widely present in rhizosphere soil of plants and have allelopathy. This method used multiwavelength HPLC-PDA analysis for simultaneous determination of these compounds. The detection wavelengths selected 254 nm, 280 nm, 300 nm, and 320 nm. Chromatographic separation of all compounds was achieved using a column of Shim-pack VP-ODS (250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 μm), kept at 30 °C. Mobile phase A was acetonitrile, B was a 0.5% acetic acid aqueous solution, and the flow rate was 1.0 mL min −1 . Under the condition of gradient elution, the mobile phase A was acetonitrile, B was a 0.5% acetic acid aqueous solution, and the flow rate was kept constant at 1.0 mL min −1 . The 14 target phenolic acids were completely separated within 45 min. All the calibration curves showed good linearity, and the correlation coefficient was 0.9994–0.9999. With the detection limit varying from 0.003 mg L −1 to 0.239 mg L −1 . The recovery rates and the RSD of 14 phenolic acids were 80.54∼107.0% and 1.43–4.35%, respectively. This method has the characteristics of high sensitivity, high accuracy, and high recovery rate. This method is a novel technical means for the simultaneous analysis of compound phenolic acids in soil.

Abstract:Alkylphenols are widely applied in the field of industry and agriculture, but their endocrine disrupting properties harm to human health. Moreover, alkylphenols often exhibit the low content in complex samples. Thus, we proposed magnetic covalent organic framework composites (Fe3O4@TatTpa) for efficient magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) of alkylphenols via hydrogen bonding, pi-pi and hydrophobic interactions. In combination with HPLC detection, good linearity (0.006-10 mu g mL-1) with R2 (>= 0.997) and low limit of detections (1.8-6 x 10-3 mu g mL-1) were realized for alkylphenols. The proposed method was successfully employed to determine alkylphenols in soft drink, black oolong tea, and watermelon samples with satisfactory recoveries (86.1-118.5 %) and relative standard deviations (6.3-14.8 %).
Toxic effects of glucagon-induced acute lipid mobilization in geese.

Abstract:The toxic effects associated with rapid lipid mobilization and a high plasma free fatty acid (FFA) concentration produced by glucagon were evaluated. Glucagon (0.5 mg/kg of body wt) was injected intravenously into nonfasting geese. The geese developed rapid respirations and high plasma FFA levels within 15 min after the glucagon injection; three of eleven died. Control geese, injected with saline, did not exhibit toxic signs. Peak FFA concentrations developed 15 min after glucagon and high levels persisted for over 90 min. Geese injected with glucagon frequently developed electrocardiographic abnormalities that included supraventricular tachycardia, premature ventricular contractions, and signs of myocardial ischemia. Light and electron microscopy revealed acute myocardial degeneration and fatty infiltration of the liver. The increase in plasma FFA concentrations and toxic effects were not prevented by pretreatment with nicotinic acid or propranolol.

Abstract:Hierarchical porous zeolitic imidazolate framework‐8 (HpZIF-8) have not only good chemical and thermal stability, but also pore structures of different sizes. In this work, HpZIF-8 supported hollow-fiber liquid-phase microextraction (HpZIF-8@HF-LPME) co-modified with tributyl phosphate and 2-nitroethyl benzene was firstly developed for purification and enrichment of nine typical phenolic pollutants followed by electrophoretic separation and amperometric detection (CE-AD). The key enrichment parameters were optimized by full factorial experimental and central composite designs. Under the optimum conditions, the maximum enrichment factors for the nine analytes were 479 (phenol), 249 (2-chlorophenol), 821 (4-chlorophenol), 1253 (3-methylphenol), 1376 (2,4-dichlorophenol), 1078 (2,4,6-trichlorophenol), 200 (pentachlorophenol), 614 (4-nitrophenol) and1827 times (bisphenol A), respectively. The limits of detection were 0.060–1.5 μg L −1 (S/ N = 3) in real sample matrixes. This proposed method has been successfully applied to water samples with high ionic strength, and the average recoveries were in the range of 80.2–118.0%. This developed method of HpZIF-8@HF-LPME/CE-AD needs no desorption and derivatization, providing an alternative for monitoring typical phenolic pollutants in water samples.

Abstract:A novel graphene-phenolic resin composite electrode was fabricated by the in situ crosslinking of phenolic novolac resin in the presence of graphene sheets and hexamethylenetetramine for the capillary electrophoretic measurement of isoferulic acid, ferulic acid and caffeic acid in Cimicifugae rhizoma. The characterization results showed that a uniform electrically conductive composite network of graphene and phenolic resin formed in the electrode tube. The novel electrode was employed in the enhanced amperometric detection of the three phenolic acids after capillary electrophoresis separation. They could be well resolved within 10 min at a voltage of 15 kV using a 50 mM borate buffer at pH 9.2. The peak currents were linear with their concentrations over the range of 0.001 to 1 mM. The graphenebased detection electrode is characterized by high sensitivity, improved detection limits (0.18 to 0.25 mM), low detection potential (+ 0.8 V) and long-term reproducibility. The method was applied to the determination of the three phenolic acids in Cimicifugae rhizoma.

Abstract:A method was investigated for the determination of 4 phenols in water by three phase hollow fiber microextraction coupled with high performance liquid chromatography. Some factors affecting the extraction efficiency were optimized, such as the nature of organic solvent, the concentration of acceptor phase, the pH value of donor phase, extraction time, stirring rate and salt concentration. The optimized conditions were as follows: 1-octanol was used as the organic solvent, the concentration of NaOH solution as acceptor phase was 0.09 mol/L, the pH value of donor phase was 4, the extraction time was 40 min, the stirring rate was 600 r/min and the NaCI concentration was 100 g/L. Under the optimal conditions, the detection limits (S/N = 3) of phenol, 4-methylphenol, 2,4-dimethylphenol and 2-naphthol were 0.4, 0.4, 1.2 and 0.4 microg/L, and the enrichment factors were 111.6, 129.5, 71.0 and 175.6, respectively. The proposed method was applied for the determination of the 4 phenols in real environmental water samples and the spiked recoveries were in the range of 85.9%-119.0% at the spiked levels of 5 and 50 microg/L. The method is simple, rapid, accurate and suitable for the determination of phenols in water samples.
Efficient Adsorptive Separation and Determination of Phenolic Acids from Orange Peels Using Hyper-Crosslinked Polymer Based Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-8 (ZIF-8) Composites

Abstract:A new and efficient hypercrosslinked polymer-based zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 composite called ZIF-8-HCP was synthesized. The properties of the material including zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 and hypercrosslinked polymer were analyzed using seven characterization methods. In addition, the materials were used as adsorbents for the dispersion solid-phase extraction for the separation and determination of phenolic acids in orange peel samples. The adsorption capacities of the resulting materials were characterized. The selectivity of zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 was greatly enhanced after the introduction of a hyper-crosslinked polymer as the skeleton. The microstructure modification introduced a large number of mesoporous sites that allowed better adsorption of the caffeic acid and ferulic acid targets. The adsorption capacities of the composite ZIF-8-HCP were 31.72 mg/g for the former and 15.58 mg/g for the latter. In addition, the limits of detection and quantification were 0.0188 and 0.0627 μg/mL and 0.0177 and 0.0592 μg/mL, respectively. A feasible analytical method was established for the targets in orange peel samples using the ZIF-8-HCP with satisfactory extraction recoveries of 92.90% and 98.87%. The proposed method using the synthesized material was employed to the trace determination of the phenolic acids by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

Development of A Solid-Phase Microextraction Fiber Coated with Poly(Methacrylic Acid-Ethylene Glycol Dimethacrylate) and Its Application for the Determination of Chlorophenols in Water Coupled with Gc

Abstract:A solid-phasemicroextraction (SPME) fiber coatedwith poly(methacrylic acid-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) coupled to GC with a micro electron-capture detector was developed for the determination of four chlorphenols in water samples for the first time. A novel and simple method for the preparation of this novel SPME fiber was proposed by copolymerization of methacrylic acid and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate in an appropriate solvent using a glass capillary as a "mold". The factors affecting the polymerization were optimized in detail. Furthermore, the extraction performance of the poly(methacrylic acid-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) fiber was evaluated. Moreover, experimental headspace-SPME parameters, such as extraction temperature, extraction time, salt concentration, stirring speed, and pH, were optimized by orthogonal array experimental designs. Under the optimized conditions, the target analytes were linear in the range of 0.2-50 ng/mL, and the correlation coefficients were all greater than 0.99. RSD was less than 8.9%, and the detection limits were in the range of 0.1-10 ng/L. Four cholorphenols were detected from tap and lake water samples using the proposed method, with the recoveries of spiked natural water samples were ranged from 91.8 to 110.8, and 90.6 to 111.4% for tap and lake water samples, respectively.

Abstract:A new analytical method by graphene-reinforced hollow fiber liquid-phase microextraction combined with high-performance liquid chromatography fluorescence detection was developed for the determination of bisphenol A and 4-tert-butylphenol in bottled juices. Several important experimental parameters were studied to get optimal extraction conditions for the analytes. Under the optimized conditions, the method showed a good performance having a linear response in the range from 0.05 to 10.0 ng mL−1 with the correlation coefficients (r) of 0.9965–0.9994 and limits of detection of 0.01 ng mL−1. The relative standard deviations were in the range from 6.4 to 7.2 % at the spiked concentration of 1.0 ng mL−1. The method combines the high-adsorption capacity of graphene and the excellent clean-up performance of hollow fiber liquid-phase microextraction and has been successfully applied to the analysis of the analytes in bottled juice samples.

Abstract:Covalent organic framework coated nickel foam () was prepared as a sorbent for the dispersive solid phase extraction (DSPE) of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from Chinese herbal medicines (CHMs) prior to their determination by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The structure and morphology of the as-synthesized were characterized by different techniques. Various key parameters affecting the performance of the DSPE method, including the amount of sorbent, desorption solvent, desorption volume and time, extraction time, and sample volume, were investigated. Under the optimized conditions, combined with GC-MS was successfully applied to the determination of 16 PAHs in CHMs. The method showed wide linearity (20–2000 ng mL −1 ), low limits of determination (0.3–2.7 ng mL −1 ), and high recoveries (78.0–124%). These results revealed that has the potential for efficient extraction of PAHs from complex samples.

Abstract:Many plants have a high polyphenol content, which causes the matrix effect and makes the analysis of trace pesticide residues highly challenging. A common approach to improving matrix effects is to purify pesticides through the use of sorbents, but this requires a combination of multiple sorbents and extensive use. Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 is widely used for pesticide analysis due to its high porosity, large specific surface area, and versatility. Here, we established and validated a modified quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe method based on a zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 that was used to test the removal ability for polyphenols. To this end, 145 pesticide residues in peppermint, perilla, fennel, and mulberry leaves were analyzed by the modified method coupled with liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry. The mean recoveries of all pesticide residues were in the range of 74.3-103.7%, with mean relative standard deviations ≤9.1% at spiked concentrations of 1, 10, 50, and 100 μg/kg for mulberry leaves. The limits of quantitation of the method ranged from 1 to 50 μg/kg. This study offers a reliable approach for the accurate quantitative analysis of various trace substances in the polyphenol-rich plants.
