Abstract:The aesthetic facial contouring procedures have gained an increasing popularity in the Asian population. Nevertheless, currently, there are few specific literature assessments and studies on the outcomes of rhinoplasty combined with full-face fat graft contouring. To conduct an objective evaluation of the efficacy of Asian rhinoplasty combined with autologous facial fat transfer in terms of 3-dimensional measurement and patient-reported outcomes. Patients who underwent rhinoplasty combined with full-face fat transfer for facial contouring between January 2016 and July 2019 were recruited in the study. The preoperative and postoperative clinical variables and 3-dimensional measurement of patients were also collected. The satisfaction outcome of surgeons and patients was assessed. Twenty patients completed rhinoplasty with full-face fat transfer. The average postoperative follow-up was 10.2 months (range 6–24 months). The nasal length, and the nasal protrusion rate were significantly increased (p < 0.05) after surgery, and the median number of nasolabial angles decreased from 106° to 101°, which was closer to the aesthetic standard of 90°–100°. The topographical projection images of whole face indicated that the volume of frontal, temporal, inner cheek and chin regions were increased obviously. All cases received satisfaction outcome based on surgeons’ satisfaction scale, ROE scale, FACE-Q overall facial satisfaction scale, and FACE-Q Rhinoplasty scale. Additionally, no patients had intraoperative or postoperative complications. Rhinoplasty combined with full-face fat transfer is a reliable and effective method of augmenting and contouring the facial convexity in the Asian populations. Long-term Outcomes of Temporal Hollowing Augmentation by Targeted Volume Restoration of Fat Compartments in Chinese Adults

Abstract:Importance: Previous anatomical and clinical studies have suggested that targeted restoration of the volume and distribution of fat compartments using appropriate cannula entry sites and injection planes is an excellent fat-grafting technique for facial contouring and hand rejuvenation. Objective: To perform subjective and objective evaluations of the safe and effective profile of the targeted fat-grafting technique for temporal hollowing augmentation. Design, setting, and participations: In a retrospective cohort study, a total of 96 consecutive patients with temporal hollowing were treated at the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai, China, with the targeted fat-grafting technique from January 1, 2009, to January 1, 2017. Main outcomes and measures: The safety and efficacy profile of this technique was evaluated by the following methods: (1) a quantitative measurement of fat-graft survival and temporal augmentation rates by using 3-dimensional laser scanning, (2) a subjective assessment using a satisfaction survey and the Hollowness Severity Rating Scale (grades range from 0-3, with higher grades representing more hollowness), and (3) the complication rate. Results: Of the 96 study patients, 94 (97.9%) were women and the mean (SD) age was 34.4 (7.4) years. Of the 142 autologous fat-grafting procedures performed, the mean (SD) total follow-up time was 16.3 (3.2) months, with a mean (SD) of 1.5 (0.7) procedures performed. The mean (SD) baseline volume requirement per temple for each patient was 12.8 (4.8) mL, and the total volume of the fat graft per temple was 17.8 (7.5) mL. Quantitative analysis revealed that the mean (SD) total augmentation volume per temple was 11.7 (3.0) mL, the total survival rate of the fat grafts was 65.7% (12.6%), and total augmentation rate of hollowness was 91.4% (23.4%). Subjective analysis revealed that all patients showed an improved appearance after fat grafting, and 142 temples (74.0%) exhibited clinical improvement by more than 2 grades. In all, 88 patients (91.7%) were satisfied with the outcomes, with a low complication rate reported. Conclusions and relevance: The targeted fat-grafting technique allows the transplant of fat tissue into 4 separate fat compartments in a double-plane manner through a unique cannula entry site that avoids severe neurovascular injury. The long-term results demonstrate that this technique is an effective, reproducible, and safe approach for temporal hollowing augmentation. Level of evidence: 4.
Use of Condensed Nanofat Combined with Fat Grafts to Treat Atrophic Scars

Abstract:IMPORTANCE:In addition to the physical deformity, there is often great psychological burden of facial scars for patients. In this study, we use condensed nanofat combined with fat grafts in a novel technique to improve atrophic facial scars by raising both the surface and the bottom of the affected area.OBJECTIVE:To assess whether the use of condensed nanofat combined with fat grafting can be effective in treating atrophic facial scars from both an aesthetic and a functional perspective.DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS:In this prospective case series of 20 patients with 25 atrophic facial scars, each scar was treated with condensed nanofat combined with fat grafts at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. Postoperative results were evaluated by the patients themselves and by 3 senior plastic surgeon observers.MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES:Multiple preoperative and postoperative examinations included the use of the Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS) to evaluate both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the atrophic facial scars. Punch biopsy specimens were stained for the presence of melanin, elastic fibers, and cytokeratin (CK) 14 and CK19. Images were analyzed using ImageJ software, and the data were analyzed by paired sample t test.RESULTS:Twenty patients (6 men and 14 women; mean age, 38.25 years; age range, 21-62 years) with a total of 25 atrophic facial scars were treated between March 2014 and December 2016. The patients' mean (SD) scar assessment scores were significantly decreased postoperatively in the final examination for color, 6.40 (0.51) vs 2.40 (0.24) (P < .001); stiffness, 7.20 (0.37) vs 3.20 (0.20) (P < .001); thickness, 5.80 (0.73) vs 1.80 (0.37) (P = .001); and irregularity, 5.20 (0.49) vs 2.20 (0.37) (P = .003); and the observers' scores were also significantly decreased for pigmentation, 4.40 (0.51) vs 2.00 (0.32) (P = .004); thickness, 3.00 (0.32) vs 1.80 (0.20) (P = .03); relief, 4.40 (0.51) vs 2.40 (0.24) (P = .003); and pliability, 4.20 (0.37) vs 1.40 (0.24) (P < .001). In the final follow-up examinations, a significantly improved overall POSAS score was found among both patients, 28.80 (1.02) vs 12.20 (0.80) (P < .001), and observers, 18.00 (0.71) vs 9.20 (0.37) (P = .001). Enhancement of Fontana-Masson staining of melanin in the basal cell layer was observed postoperatively, and a significant postoperative change was detected for the mean (SD) values of average optical density from the preoperative measurement, 0.671 (0.083) vs 0.844 (0.110) (P = .01). The sebaceous glands and sweat glands that were not found in the preoperative images were seen postoperatively by immunohistochemical staining with CK14 and CK19.CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE:Our preliminary clinical and pathological results indicate that the use of condensed nanofat combined with fat grafts may be an effective approach to treating atrophic facial scars from both an aesthetic and a functional perspective.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE:4.
Forehead Reduction Surgery via an Anterior Hairline Pretrichial Incision in Asians: A Review of 641 Cases

Abstract:Background: Forehead reduction is gaining in popularity, as facial proportions that include shorter upper and lower thirds are currently more aesthetically pleasing. In this first large-scale study, we present an analysis of several important aspects of surgical design and postoperative complications associated with forehead reduction performed via a pretrichial skin excision. Methods: Patients who underwent surgery from 2006 to 2018 were reviewed retrospectively. Data included the amount of skin excised, postoperative complications experienced during the first three months, and forehead length measured 2 years postoperatively. Objective outcomes reported by three independent surgeons and subjective satisfaction reported by patients at three months postoperatively were evaluated on 5-point Likert scales that addressed both postoperative scarring and overall aesthetics. Results: A total of 641 patients underwent forehead reduction surgery. The average lengths of the skin excisions were 16.64 mm, 15.36 mm, and 15.33 mm from regions at the center and at the left and right mid-pupillary lines, respectively. Long-term follow-up of 85 patients revealed forehead lengthening that exceeded the initial postoperative measurements by 2.44 mm (15.04%), 1.98 mm (11.53%), and 2.51 mm (15.8%) at the left, center, and right, respectively. Means (standard deviation [SD]) for subjective and objective measures of postoperative scarring were 1.32 (0.49) and 1.78 (0.66), respectively. The means (SD) for subjective and objective postoperative aesthetic scores were 4.38 (0.47) and 3.98 (0.39), respectively. Conclusions: Forehead reduction surgery via a pretrichial skin excision is a straightforward procedure that is easy to perform, has few complications, and result in high rates of patient satisfaction. Abstract:Summary Background Autologous fat has the advantages of regeneration, rejuvenation, homology, and support. There are currently no reports indicating that injecting autologous fat enhances the fullness of the lower-lid pretarsal roll. Objectives In this retrospective, non-randomized study, the effects of which injecting autologous fat cosmetically enlarging lower-lid pretarsal roll were evaluated by comparison of preoperative and postoperative photographs and patient satisfaction of the follow-up. Methods Firstly, fat tissues were manually sucked with a 20 ml syringe connecting a 2.5 mm three-hole liposuction cannula. The treated fat tissues were transferred to a 10 ml syringe and centrifuged at 2000 rpm for two minutes and then the fibrous tissues were manually removed. Finally, the injection of autologous fat was conducted using a 1 ml syringe which was linked to a sharp needle. Results 47 patients between 2018 and 2021 were retrospective. Only three patients showed obvious asymmetry or uneven outlines after surgery and underwent a second fat injection. During recovery, bruising and minor contouring irregularities obviously improved after one or two weeks. Eight patients, who had severe bruising, were able to make a full recovery in more than two weeks. No patients experienced serious complications. All patients ultimately displayed a pretarsal fullness in their lower eyelids and satisfied their outcomes. Conclusion The effects of which injecting autologous fat cosmetically enlarges lower-lid pretarsal roll are long-lasting, aesthetic, and safe.

Abstract:For gender-diverse individuals assigned male at birth, postpubertal estrogen and testosterone-lowering therapies alone are often inadequate to reverse the testosterone-related facial characteristics projecting a male sex identity. Facial feminization surgery significantly improves quality-of-life outcomes for gender-diverse patients by relieving this gender incongruence of the face. Because the shape of the forehead is so radically different between men and women, feminization of this area is critical for many individuals. Several techniques are typically used in combination, including hairline advancement, browlift, burring of the supraorbital rims, frontal bone contouring, and anterior table setback. This report describes the use of fat grafting as an adjuvant technique to forehead contouring as means to avoid frontal bone osteotomy, which carries a higher complication profile and often requires hardware placement.
Applied Anatomical Study of Autologous Fat Injection in Forehead Area

Abstract:Objective:The purpose of this study was to observe the anatomical features in the area of forehead and further to discuss precautions of forehead autologous fat injection.Methods:A total of 12 fresh adult cadaveric specimens (6 males and 6 females, 47.5±11.7 years old) were studied during January 2018 to December 2018. Combined with routine anatomy and microanatomy, forehead tissues were dissected to observe important structures and their surroundings. The important blood vessels and tissues thickness were measured by electronic vernier caliper.Results:The forehead is composed of skin, subcutaneous adipose tissue, superficial musculoaponeurotic system(SMAS), loose connective tissue and periosteum. There are three superficial fat compartments. The width and length of superficial central forehead compartments is(2.17±0.27) cm and(4.16±0.38) cm. The width and length of left superficial lateral forehead compartments is(2.09±0.31) cm and(3.65±0.39) cm and right superficial lateral forehead compartments is(2.14±0.29) cm and(3.18±0.55) cm. The three deep fat compartments shape is similar to superficial fat compartments. It is an avascular layer.Retro-orbicularis oculi fat lies deep to the supraorbital area with the thickness is (2.58±0.03) mm and the length is (2.55±0.05) mm. The blood supply of forehead is provided by the supratrochlear artery, the superaorbital artery and the superficial temporal artery with internal diameters of (1.01±0.16) mm, (0.85±0.12) mm and (1.35±0.15) mm, respectively.Conclusions:Forehead autologous fat transfer should be injected into the avascular forehead deep fat compartments. Avoiding injected into superficial fat compartments to avoid unnatural mask face. Because there are potential channels in the superficial central fat compartments and the area of the upper eyelid, it should be avoided to form periorbital migratory fat granuloma caused by postoperative acupressure.
Effect of high-density fat combined with adipose stem cell glue on the success rate of facial filling and its clinical value

Abstract:Facial fat grafting is a popular cosmetic procedure, and experts are increasingly endorsing the use of high-density fat with adipose stem cell glue for better results. This study aims to explore the effect of high-density fat combined with adipose stem cell glue on the success rate of facial filling and its clinical value. We conducted a randomized trial with 100 patients who underwent facial fat transplantation between August 2020 and August 2022. They were divided into two groups: a control group receiving traditional Coleman fat transplantation and an observation group receiving high-density fat with adipose stem cells. In the observation and control groups, the excellent and good rate was 98.00 and 80.00%. After 3 months of treatment, the thickness of frontal subcutaneous fat and temporal subcutaneous fat in the observation group was higher (P < 0.05). Observation group retention of fat transplantation was noticeably higher 3 months after treatment (P < 0.05). Three months after treatment, the VISIA (facial imaging system) scores of facial color spots, facial pores and facial wrinkles in the observation group were lower (P < 0.05). After treatment, both groups indicated noticeable improvements in physiological functions, health status, social function, mental health, and somatic diseases compared to before treatment. Notably, the observation group had higher scores (P < 0.05). The observation group had a lower complication rate (4.00% vs. 22.00%) and higher satisfaction rate (98.00% vs. 86.00%) than the control group. Using high-density fat combined with adipose stem cell glue for facial fat grafting yields superior results, reduces complications, and boosts patient satisfaction compared to traditional methods. We have complied with all relevant ethical regulations with regard to the use of stem cells.

Evolving Forehead Augmentation: A Five-step Approach with High G Prime Hyaluronic Acid

Abstract:Background: Achieving effective upper-face rejuvenation through forehead augmentation is essential; however, complications such as vascular occlusion leading to skin necrosis or vision loss can occur. The complex forehead anatomy, characterized by ligaments and septa, often results in uneven outcomes with dermal filler treatment. The learning curve for successful forehead augmentation was longer than that anticipated. Herein, we present a specialized program for clinicians to expedite the learning process. This study explores a five-step technique for forehead augmentation using high elastic (G prime) hyaluronic acid fillers. Methods: We enrolled 10 Asian female participants with no history of dermal filler injections, surgery, or nonsurgical forehead procedures. All participants provided written informed consent, and their progress was assessed using photography and the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale. Results: Immediate post-treatment Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale ratings averaged 3.0 ± 0.0, decreasing to 2.5 ± 0.5 at 6 months, and 1.8 ± 0.6 at 12 months. Mild tenderness (10%), temporary swelling (30%), and a rapid recovery period underscored the safety and reliability of our approach. Importantly, no adverse vascular events were observed. Conclusions: Our five-step injection technique utilizing high-G prime hyaluronic acid leverages a profound understanding of the forehead anatomy, systematic methodology, and dynamic potential of advanced fillers. By implementing this paradigm, plastic and reconstructive surgeons can increase the standards of forehead augmentation and consistently achieve harmonious and effective results.

Abstract:Pycnodysostosis is an uncommon autosomal recessive sclerosing bone disorder which is characterized by short stature and generalized diffuse osteosclerosis. Patients usually have a large head with separated sutures, open fontanels, aplasia of frontal sinuses, obtuse mandibular gonial angle, and acroosteolysis of the distal phalanges. This case report showed a 25-year-old female with features pathognomonic of pycnodysostosis. The emphasis is mainly on the early diagnosis as it has an important role in the general health of such patients and prevention of complications.

Abstract:Background In recent years, autologous fat grafting (AFG), also known as fat transfer or lipofilling, has been widely performed for periorbital rejuvenation and defect correction, although the evidence regarding its efficacy and safety is still lacking. Besides, with respect to the periorbital region, it is invariably the earliest appearance area of the facial aging phenomenon. Therefore, a systematic review and meta-analysis is needed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of this technique. Methods A literature search was performed in PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane library databases on November 20, 2020, adhering to the PRISMA guidelines, to identify all relevant articles. Then, a data extraction and standardization process was performed to assess all outcome data. Ultimately, the data were assessed using a random effects regression model with comprehensive meta-analysis software. Results Thirty-nine studies consisting of 3 cohorts and 36 case series with a total of 4046 cases were included. Meta-analysis revealed a relatively high satisfaction rate of 90.9% (95% CI, 86.4%–94.0%). Frequent complications in 4046 patients receiving AFG were edema, chemosis, and contour irregularity, with an overall complication rate of 7.9% (95% CI, 4.8%–12.8%). Conclusion This systematic review and meta-analysis showed that AFG for rejuvenation of eyelids and periorbital area provided a high satisfaction rate and did not result in severe complications. Therefore, AFG might be performed safely for periorbital rejuvenation and reconstruction.

Abstract:Autologous fat grafting has gained increasing popularity used in plastic surgery as a strategy to improve functional and aesthetic outcome. However, variable augmentation results have concerned surgeons in that volume loss of grafted fat reported fluctuates unsteadily. An optimal technique that clinically maximizes the long-term survival rate of transplantation is in urgent need to be identified. The PubMed/MEDLINE database was queried to search for animal and human studies published through March of 2022 with search terms related to adipose grafting encompassing liposuction, adipose graft viability, processing technique, adipose-derived stem cell, SVF and others. 45 in vivo studies met inclusion criteria. The principal of ideal processing technique is effective purification of fat and protection of tissue viability, such as gauze rolling and washing-filtration devices. Cell-assisted lipotransfer including SVF, SVF-gel and ADSCs significantly promotes graft retention via differentiation potential and paracrine manner. ADSCs induce polarization of macrophages to regulate inflammatory response, mediate extracellular matrix remodeling and promote endothelial cell migration and sprouting, and differentiate into adipocytes to replace necrotic cells, providing powerful evidence for the benefits and efficacy of cell-assisted lipotransfer. Based on the current evidence, the best strategy can not be decided. Cell-assisted lipotransfer has great potential for use in regenerative medicine. But so far mechanically prepared SVF-gel is conducive to clinical promotion. PRP as endogenous growth factor sustained-release material shows great feasibility. Abstract:Objective: Clinical application of autologous fat grafting (AFG) is quickly expanding. Despite the widely acceptance, long-term survival rate (SR) of AFG remains a question not yet solved. Meanwhile, although rare, severe complications related to AFG including vision loss, stroke even death could be seen in the literature. Data Sources: A comprehensive research of PubMed database to June 2013 was performed according to guidelines of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons Fat Graft Task Force Assessment Methodology. Articles were screened using predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Study Selection: Data collected included patient characteristics, surgical technique, donor site, recipient site, graft amount, and quantified measurement methods. Patient cohorts were pooled, and SR was calculated. All the severe complications were also summarized according to the different clinical characteristics. Results: Of 550 articles, 16 clinical articles and 10 animal studies met the inclusion criteria and provided quantified measurement methods. Totally, 596 patients were included. SR varied from 34% to 82% in breast and 30-83% in the facial area. Nude mice were applied to investigate human fat grafting SR (38.3-52.5% after 15 weeks). Rabbits were commonly used to study animal AFG SR (14.00-14.56% after 1-year). Totally, 21 severe complications were reported, including death (2), stroke (10), vision loss (11, 8 of which accompanied with stroke), sepsis (3), multiple abscess (1) and giant fat necrotic cyst (2). Ten of these complications happened within 10 years. Conclusions: There is no unified measurement method to evaluate fat graft SR until now and no clinical evidence to show better SR according to different donor and recipient cite. Body mass index change between pre- and postoperation may be the bias factor in evaluating fat SR. Fat embolisms of the ophthalmic artery and the middle cerebral artery are the most severe complication of AFG and still lack of effective treatment.
Clinical effect of botulinum toxin type A combined with autologous fat grafting in patients with nasolabial fold depression

Abstract:Background: Nasolabial fold (NLF) depression can affect the facial appearance of patients to some extent and increase their psychological burdens. In recent years, autologous fat grafting (AFG) combined with botulinum toxin A (BTX-A) injection (AFG + BTX-A injection) has been gradually applied in the treatment of patients with NLF depression. Although studies have been conducted on the efficacy and safety of AFG + BTX-A injection in treating NLF depression, the experimental design, observational indicators, and sample enrollment criteria vary remarkably, making it difficult to draw convincing and consistent conclusions. Thus, further relevant research is warranted. Aim: To assess the esthetic improvement, efficacy, and safety of AFG + BTX-A injections in patients with NLF depression. Methods: This study included 60 patients with NLF depression who were treated in our hospital from February 2019 to April 2021. These patients were categorized into control (n = 30) and observation (n = 30) groups. The observation group received AFG + BTX-A injection, whereas the control group underwent AFG only. All patients were evaluated using the wrinkle severity rating scale (WSRS) and global aesthetic improvement scale. The compactness of facial contours, skin evaluation indexes, adverse reactions, and satisfaction of the two groups were evaluated 3 months postoperatively. Results: The WSRS scores of the observation group at 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively were lower than those of the control group (P < 0.05). Three months postoperatively, facial fine lines and pores showed obvious improvement and the skin index score was higher in the observation group than in the control group (P < 0.05). The compactness of facial contours was better in the observation group than in the control group (P < 0.05). In addition, no remarkable differences were noted in the incidence of postoperative adverse reactions such as facial stiffness, facial asymmetry, facial bruising, and facial concavity inequality (P > 0.05). Conclusion: AFG + BTX-A injection is a highly safe, cost-effective, effective, and long-lasting treatment for NLF depression with high esthetic value, which should be promoted in the future.
A Novel Endoscopic Forehead Lift Technique for Patients with Upper Facial Wrinkles: Morphometric Evaluation and Patient-Reported Outcome Using FACE-Q Scales.

Abstract:Chinese patients more frequently complain of forehead wrinkles than eyebrow and upper eyelid ptosis. Besides the commonly used brow-lifting technique, a novel technique to satisfy the demands of Chinese patients is needed. In this article, we introduce our novel endoscopic forehead lift procedure and analyze the morphometric evaluation and patient-reported outcomes. From January 2010 to January 2017, 171 Chinese patients underwent endoscopic forehead lift in which two parallel incisions were made on the frontalis muscle to relieve forehead wrinkles. Biopsy forceps were used to bite off the glabella muscles to relieve wrinkles between the eyebrows. Lifting devices were not used. Morphometric evaluations of eyebrow locations were performed, and the vertical distance of the upper eyebrows was measured post- and preoperatively to evaluate the elevation range. FACE-Q scales were sent to patients who were still being followed-up. A total of 46 patients underwent the morphometric evaluation, which suggested that the eyebrows were elevated effectively. At 12 to 36 months postoperatively, the median post-/preoperative ratio was 118.4, 112.5, and 111.8% in the medial, middle, and lateral eyebrows, respectively. In the same patients, at 37 to 84 months postoperatively, the median post-/preoperative ratio was 116.6, 112.2, and 108.9% in the medial, middle, and lateral eyebrows, respectively. Sixty-five patients completed the FACE-Q scales, demonstrating high satisfaction levels with the forehead and eyebrow, outcome, and decisions, with a median score of 100 for each. Postoperative appraisal revealed that the lines in the forehead and between the eyebrows had a good outcome with scores of 86 and 93, respectively. The median number of years younger that patients thought they appeared was 7. The most frequent self-claimed recovery symptom was temporary forehead skin numbness (83.1%) followed by a receding hairline (46.2%). Our endoscopic forehead lift procedure was effective in relieving forehead and glabella wrinkles and lifting the eyebrows. This was a level of evidence III study.

Abstract:Forehead lifting serves to restore a more youthful appearance as well as a more functional and aesthetically pleasing brow position. The purpose of this review is to describe the pertinent anatomy and forehead aesthetics, then to discuss the patient evaluation, surgical approaches, complications, and nonsurgical adjuncts. Anatomic features reviewed include the layers of the forehead and scalp, blood supply, innervation, musculature, and the temporal branch of the facial nerve anatomy. Forehead aesthetics described include the aging process, with its contributing factors and consequences, and the ideal brow position in women and men. Key aspects of the patient evaluation include assessment of skin type; ptosis; hairline, brow, and lid position; symmetry; and bony contours. Pertinent past medical/surgical history as well as family history are reviewed, and the need for ophthalmology evaluation is discussed. Surgical indications and approaches, including direct, coronal, mid-forehead, endoscopic, and trans-blepharoplasty, are reviewed. The advantages and disadvantages of each approach are discussed and techniques briefly described. Complications are mentioned, and the article concludes with a review of nonsurgical adjuncts.

Abstract:<section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Background</h3><p>Temporal hollowing causes an old and gaunt appearance. An inward curve of the temporal hairline adds to the severity of temporal hollowing, which is visually exacerbated by the dark‐colored hairline in most Chinese women. Whether temporal augmentation using autologous fat grafting (AFG) is effective for correcting an inwardly‐curved temporal hairline remains unclear.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Aims</h3><p>To assess the effect of temporal augmentation using AFG on the temporal hairline.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Methods</h3><p>Forty‐six women with an inward‐curved temporal hairline, who underwent temporal augmentation using AFG, were recruited. The preoperative and postoperative severity of temporal hollowing was evaluated, and anthropometric measurements regarding the temporal hairline were performed on photographs taken in the frontal and lateral views. Subject satisfaction and incidence of complications were documented.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Results</h3><p>A slight increase in forehead width was observed. The minimal forehead width and minimal forehead width/forehead width ratio were increased. The width, depth, and height of the temporal peak were all increased as well, indicating that the previously inwardly‐oriented temporal peak was shifted slightly outward, upward, and backward after augmentation.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Conclusion</h3><p>AFG satisfactorily smoothened the temporal hairline without excessively increasing forehead width in subjects with temporal hollowing and an inward‐curved temporal hairline.</p></section>
