Abstract:In this paper, we proposed a consensus control for networked nonlinear system with disturbance and uncertain parameter. The proposed algorithm is combined with adaptive compensation of unknown disturbance and output feedback control to achieve consensus, without knowing the disturbance's amplitude frequency and phase, as long as the number of different frequencies is known. From the theorem presented in the paper, we can see the topology condition for achieving consensus is the same as networked linear system. A second-order integrated example is used to illustrate the algorithm. The design procedure is divided into two step: in step I, we design a consensus control law for networked virtual agents by Lemma 1; in step II, we use output feedback control with complete compensation of unknown disturbance for adaptive tracking the virtual agents.

Abstract:This paper investigates the fault tolerant consensus problem for a class of nonlinear multi-agent systems with actuator faults. The dynamics of the multi-agent systems are unknown nonlinear and nonidentical. The types of actuator fault include partial loss of effectiveness fault and biased fault. The main idea of the fault tolerant control adopted in this paper is the adaptive control. The control method used is a neural network based adaptive control which has a better adaptability than the traditional adaptive control. The developed adaptive neural network consensus protocol is proved to perform well with respect to the system nonlinear dynamics and actuator faults of the agent. Finally, numerical simulation on multi-agent system of four Chen's chaotic systems is performed to illustrate the effectiveness of the investigated adaptive neural network consensus protocol.

Abstract:In this paper, a robust fault-tolerant consensus control strategy and its circuit implementation method are proposed for a class of nonlinear second-order leader-following multi-agent systems against multiple actuator faults and time-varying state/input-dependent system uncertainties. The faults of partial loss of actuator effectiveness and bias-actuators are considered without knowing eventual faulty information. The uncertainties are supposed to be structured and to satisfy integral quadratic constraints. The nonlinear dynamics of underlying systems are described by linear state-dependent functions based on the differential mean value theorem. By designing adaptive schemes and state-feedback control gains, a novel distributed control strategy is constructed to ensure the asymptotic consensus of agents in the presence of actuator faults, uncertainties, and nonlinear dynamics. The control strategy is further physically implemented based on the circuit theory. The efficiency of the developed control circuits is verified by a multiple coupled nonlinear forced pendulum system based on a circuit simulation software.

Abstract:This paper considers the human-in-the-Ioop leader-following consensus control problem of multi-agent systems (MASs) with unknown matched nonlinear functions and actuator faults. It is assumed that a human operator controls the MASs via sending the command signal to a non-autonomous leader which generates the desired trajectory. Moreover, the leader's input is nonzero and not available to all followers. By using neural networks and fault estimators to approximate unknown nonlinear dynamics and identify the actuator faults, respectively, the neighborhood observer-based neural fault-tolerant controller with dynamic coupling gains is designed. It is proved that the state of each follower can synchronize with the leader's state under a directed graph and all signals in the closed-loop system are guaranteed to be cooperatively uniformly ultimately bounded. Finally, simulation results are presented for verifying the effectiveness of the proposed control method.

Abstract:This article is concerned with the robust adaptive fault-tolerant consensus control and the circuital implementation problems for a class of homogeneous multiagent systems with external disturbances and actuator faults. A robust adaptive consensus control strategy is developed to automatically eliminate the effects of actuator bias and partial loss-of-control-effectiveness faults, and simultaneously specify the $L_{2}$ performance of systems. The achievement of exponential consensus of the closed-loop disturbed and faulty multiagent system is provided on the basis of the Lyapunov stability theory. Furthermore, a physical implementation method is developed based on circuit theory to translate the proposed adaptive consensus control strategy into analog circuits. By using a professional tool for circuit simulations, effectiveness of the developed circuits is verified via a multiagent system composed by mobile robots with two independent driving wheels.

Abstract:This paper proposes an adaptive neural consensus tracking control approach for a class of leader–follower uncertain multiagent systems with sensor faults. Based on backstepping technique, a new direct adaptive neural control scheme is proposed to adaptively approximate the sensor faults. In order to improve the stability of the system and transient performance, a series of smooth functions are incorporated into control design and Lyapunov analysis. In addition, a class of reduced-order smooth functions is introduced to achieve a simpler virtual controller implementation. It is proved that the closed-loop signals are bounded and the synchronization errors can converge to a preset interval. Besides the asymptotic performance, a tunable L 2 -norm transient performance is achieved. Finally, numerical and physical example are presented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

The communication graph is any directed graph containing a directed spanning tree with the leader as the root. A fully distributed adaptive fault-tolerant tracking consensus protocol, which is based on the relative states of neighbours, is proposed to guarantee that all followers track with the leader's state, asymptotically. Finally, a numerical simulation is provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed fault-tolerant tracking consensus protocol.

Abstract:This article studies the adaptive optimized leader-follower consensus control problem for a class of discrete-time multi-agent systems with asymmetric input saturation constraints and hybrid faults based on the optimized backstepping technique. Different from the conventional saturation model, we consider an individual asymmetric saturation constraint for each actuator instead of a common upper and lower bound for all actuators. Besides, a set of hybrid faults is also considered, with the main focus on the partial fault and bias fault. To eliminate effects of saturation and faults, a simplified smooth function is constructed to approximate the asymmetric saturation model, and designed compensation signals are used to cope with the two main types of faults to improve the fault-tolerance and system performance. Subsequently, long-term strategic utility functions and virtual control signals are approximated to the optimal levels by adopting the actor-critic neural network (NN) framework, and the actor-critic NN weights are adjusted in the light of a gradient descent method. According to the forward difference Lyapunov function approach, it is proved that the closed-loop system can be stabilized and all errors are semiglobally uniformly ultimately bounded. Finally, the validity of the proposed control scheme is demonstrated through two simulation examples.

Abstract:In this article, the distributed adaptive neural network (NN) consensus fault-tolerant control (FTC) problem is studied for nonstrict-feedback nonlinear multiagent systems (NMASs) subjected to intermittent actuator faults. The NNs are applied to approximate nonlinear functions, and a NN state-observer is developed to estimate the unmeasured states. Then, to compensate for the influence of intermittent actuator faults, a novel distributed output-feedback adaptive FTC is then designed by co-designing the last virtual controller, and the problem of "algebraic-loop" can be solved. The stability of the closed-loop system is proven by using the Lyapunov theory. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed FTC approach is validated by numerical and practical examples.

Abstract:This article addresses the adaptive optimized consensus tracking control problem of nonlinear multiagent systems (MASs) via a reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm. Specifically, the nonlinear high-order MASs are formulated in a canonical form, with considerations for both actuator effectiveness loss and time-varying bias faults. First, neural networks (NNs) are utilized to approximate unknown nonlinear dynamics, and a state identifier and a fault estimator based on NNs are established, both of which are essential for evaluating state information and bias faults, respectively. Second, to achieve a high-order canonical dynamic consensus and enhance the efficiency of the consensus control strategy, a sliding-mode mechanism is employed to regulate tracking errors. Moreover, we develop an adaptive NN-based fault-tolerant optimal control method by integrating the sliding-mode mechanism with an actor–critic structured RL algorithm. It is proved that the outputs of the MASs precisely align with the desired reference signals, while ensuring the boundedness of all closed-loop signals. Finally, the proposed control methodology's effectiveness is validated through a simulation example.

Abstract:This paper addresses the problem of leader-follower consistency control for high-order nonlinear multi-agent systems affected by time-varying bounded communication faults and actuator faults. First, an estimator is designed for each follower to address certain followers' unawareness of the leader system coefficient matrix. Further, an event-triggered communication mechanism is designed to reduce the communication burden among agents. Then state observers for both the leader and followers are designed. Afterwards, a distributed control strategy is proposed utilizing observation information and backstepping technology to ensure that the system can achieve the leader-follower consistency control under time-varying bounded communication faults and actuator faults. The stability of the leader-follower control system is proved using Lyapunov theory, while the Zeno behavior can be excluded for each agent. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed distributed control strategy is verified by a simulation example.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the distributed consensus tracking problem of uncertain multiagent systems with directed communication topology and a single high-dimensional leader. Compared with existing related works, the dynamics of each follower in the present framework are subject to unmodeled dynamics and unknown external disturbances, which is more practical in various applications. Furthermore, the dimensions of leader’s dynamics may be different with those of the followers’ dynamics. Under the mild assumption that each follower can directly or indirectly sense the output information of the leader, a distributed robust adaptive neural network controller together with a local observer are designed to each follower to ensure that the states of each follower ultimately synchronize to the leader’s output with bounded residual errors under a fixed topology. By appropriately constructing some multiple Lyapunov functions, the derived results are further extended to consensus tracking with switching directed communication topologies. The effectiveness of the analytical results is demonstrated via numerical simulations.
Adaptive Neural Consensus for Fractional-Order Multi-Agent Systems With Faults and Delays

Abstract:This article investigates the consensus control for a class of fractional-order (FO) nonlinear multi-agent systems (MASs). Severe sensor/actuator faults and time-varying delays are both considered in the FO MASs. The severe faults may cause unknown control directions in MASs. A new adaptive controller, which is composed of a distributed FO Nussbaum gain, an FO filter, and an auxiliary function, is presented to deal with the severe faults. To cope with the time-varying delays, two different methods are proposed based on barrier Lyapunov function and Lyapunov-Krasovskii function, respectively. Meanwhile, the radial basis function neural network (RBF NN) is applied to approximate the unknown nonlinear functions during the design procedures. This can result in a low-complexity controller. Finally, two simulation examples are used to verify the validity of the proposed schemes.

Abstract:The current investigation aims at the adaptive consensus issue for a class of nonlinear multiagent systems with time delays and unknown disturbances under a directed graph topology. A novel designed disturbance observer eliminates the impact on the consensus induced by unknown external disturbances. Furthermore, the Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional method is applied to tackle the time delays in the design process. With the approximation capability of neural networks, the adaptive controller is developed by the backstepping technique, which can alleviate the burden of computing and make the consensus tracking error converge to a small compact region. The control scheme proposed in this paper enables the nonlinear multiagent systems to achieve consensus output. Meanwhile, a numerical simulation example is performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Abstract:In practice, disturbances, including model uncertainties and unknown external disturbances, are always widely present and have a significant impact on the cooperative control performance of a networked multi-agent system. In this work, the distributed consensus tracking control problem for a class of multi-agent systems subject to matched and mismatched uncertainties is addressed. In particular, the dynamics of the leader agent are modeled with uncertain terms, i.e., the leader's higher-order information, such as velocity and acceleration, is unknown to all followers. To solve this problem, a robust consensus tracking control scheme that combines a neural network-based distributed observer, a barrier function-based disturbance observer, and a tracking controller based on the back-stepping method was developed in this study. Firstly, a neural network-based distributed observer is designed, which is able to achieve effective estimation of leader information by all followers. Secondly, a tracking controller was designed utilizing the back-stepping technique, and the boundedness of the closed-loop error system was proved using the Lyapunov-like theorem, which enables the followers to effectively track the leader's trajectory. Meanwhile, a barrier function-based disturbance observer is proposed, which achieves the effective estimation of matched and mismatched uncertainties of followers. Finally, the effectiveness of the robust consensus tracking control method designed in this study was verified through numerical simulations.

Abstract:A fixed-time event-triggered consensus control method is proposed for uncertain nonlinear multiagent systems with actuator failures. Since actuator failures, external disturbances and control gains are time-varying and completely unknown, the effects of these system constraints on the system are completely unknown, which makes the implementation of fixed-time tracking control challenging. To deal with these system constraints, radial basis function neural networks (RBFNNs) are applied to approximate the uncertain dynamics, and a boundary estimation method is presented to achieve adaptive compensation for them. Furthermore, considering that the implementation of this boundary estimation method requires a large number of communication resources, an event triggering mechanism is designed to reduce the update frequency of the controller. It is theoretically confirmed that using the proposed control scheme, all the followers can track the leader with sufficient accuracy in a predetermined time, and all the closed-loop signals are bounded. Finally, the simulation experiments verify the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this study, a novel adaptive neural network (NN)‐based leader‐following consensus approach is proposed for a class of non‐linear second‐order multi‐agent systems. For the existing NN consensus approaches, to obtain the desired approximation accuracy, the NN‐based adaptive consensus algorithms require the number of NN nodes to must be large enough, and thus the online computation burden often are very heavy. However, the proposed adaptive consensus scheme can greatly reduce the online computation burden, because the adaptive adjusting parameters are designed in scalar form, which is the norm of the estimation of the optimal NN weight matrix. According to Lyapunov stability theory, the proposed approach can guarantee the leader‐following consensus behaviour of non‐linear second‐order multi‐agent systems to be obtained. Finally, a numerical simulation and a multi‐manipulator simulation are carried out to further demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed consensus approach.
