Abstract:Prostate cancer is threatening human health heavily,for its causes are related to diet, genetic factors, and lifestyle. Metal ions, which are necessary to our health, are important factors inducing many diseases including prostate cancer in the condition of absence or excess. Epidemiological and laboratory studies provide convincing evidence that green tea prevents and cures prostate cancer. Practically, interactions of catechins, which are the main bioactive components in green tea or GTP, with metal ions have a new aspect to investigate their mechanism in preventing and curing prostate cancer. In the present paper, we summarize some research about the effects of catechins with metal ions related to prostate cancer and their interactions on prostate cancer.

Abstract:Green tea is an effective chemopreventive agent to human prostate cancer adenoma (PCA). Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) inhibited the growth of PCA cells and induced apoptosis. Cu2+ is a trace element necessary to our health. Many studies proved that bioactivity of EGCG is altered in the presence of Cu2+. We investigated the effects of EGCG on PCA cells in the presence of Cu2+. Also, we explored potential mechanisms via measurement of the relative chemiluminescence of growth medium for PCA cells. Chemiluminscence can be an indication of free radicals. Our test results showed that the addition of EGCG and Cu2+ to the growth medium decreased the relative viability of androgen-sensitive and androgen-insensitive human prostate cancer cells. However, the effects of EGCG on PCA cells depended on (1) the relative concentrations of added EGCG and Cu2+ and (2) their order of addition. Our results indicated that few free radicals may be generated in vitro. If so, free radicals generated intracellularly may be a major factor behind apoptosis and growth inhibition observed in the PCA cells. Thus, EGCG might exert its effects intracellularly.

Abstract:Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men. Green tea consumption is reported to play an important role in the prevention of carcinogenesis in many types of malignancies, including prostate cancer; however, epidemiological studies show conflicting results regarding these anti-cancer effects. In recent years, in addition to prevention, many investigators have shown the efficacy and safety of green tea polyphenols and combination therapies with green tea extracts and anti-cancer agents in in vivo and in vitro studies. Furthermore, numerous studies have revealed the molecular mechanisms of the anti-cancer effects of green tea extracts. We believe that improved understanding of the detailed pathological roles at the molecular level is important to evaluate the prevention and treatment of prostate cancer. Therefore, in this review, we present current knowledge regarding the anti-cancer effects of green tea extracts in the prevention and treatment of prostate cancer, with a particular focus on the molecular mechanisms of action, such as influencing tumor growth, apoptosis, androgen receptor signaling, cell cycle, and various malignant behaviors. Finally, the future direction for the use of green tea extracts as treatment strategies in patients with prostate cancer is introduced.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Active surveillance (AS) has evolved as a management strategy for men with low grade prostate cancer (PCa). However, these patients report anxiety, doubts about the possible progression of the disease as well as higher decisional conflict regarding selection of active surveillance, and have been reported to ultimately opt for treatment without any major change in tumor characteristics. Currently, there is a paucity of research that systematically examines alternate strategies for this target population.METHODS: We conducted a review the evidence from epidemiological, <i>in vitro</i>, preclinical and early phase trials that have evaluated green tea catechins (GTC) for secondary chemoprevention of prostate cancer, focused on men opting for active surveillanceof low grade PCa.RESULTS: Results of our review of the <i>in vitro</i>, preclinical and phase I-II trials, demonstrates that green tea catechins (GTC) can modulate several relevant intermediate biological intermediate endpoint biomarkers implicated in prostate carcinogenesis as well as clinical progression of PCa, without major side effects.DISCUSSION: Although clinical trials using GTC have been evaluated in early phase trials in men diagnosed with High-Grade Prostatic Intraepithelial Neoplasia, Atypical Small Acinar Proliferation and in men with localized disease before prostatectomy, the effect of GTC on biological and clinical biomarkers implicated in prostate cancer progression have not been evaluated in this patient population.CONCLUSION: Results of these studies promise to provide a strategy for secondary chemoprevention, reduce morbidities due to overtreatment and improve quality of life in men diagnosed with low-grade PCa.
Protective Effect of Green Tea Against Prostate Cancer: A Case-Control Study in Southeast China

Abstract:To investigate whether green tea consumption has an etiological association with prostate cancer, a case-control study was conducted in Hangzhou, southeast China during 2001-2002. The cases were 130 incident patients with histologically confirmed adenocarcinoma of the prostate. The controls were 274 hospital inpatients without prostate cancer or any other malignant diseases, and matched to the age of cases. Information on duration, quantity and frequency of usual tea consumption, as well as the number of new batches brewed per day, were collected by face-to-face interview using a structured questionnaire. The risk of prostate cancer for tea consumption was assessed using multivariate logistic regression adjusting for age, locality, education, income, body mass index, physical activity, alcohol consumption, tobacco smoking, total fat intake, marital status, age at marriage, number of children, history of vasectomy and family history of prostate cancer. Among the cases, 55.4% were tea drinkers compared to 79.9% for the controls. Almost all the tea consumed was green tea. The prostate cancer risk declined with increasing frequency, duration and quantity of green tea consumption. The adjusted odds ratio (OR), relative to non-tea drinkers, were 0.28 (95% Cl = 0.17-0.47) for tea drinking, 0.12 (95% Cl = 0.06-0.26) for drinking tea over 40 years, 0.09 (9S% Cl = 0.04-0.21) for those consuming more than 1.5 kg of tea leaves yearly, and 0.27 (9S% Cl = 0.15-0.48) for those drinking more than 3 cups (I litre) daily. The dose response relationships were also significant, suggesting that green tea is protective against prostate cancer. (C) 2003 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

Abstract:Background: Prostate Cancer (PCa) is the major reason for the high mortality rates among men worldwide. In fact, current therapeutic approaches are not successful. It appears that discovering more effective methods considering several parameters such as availability, low cost, and no toxicity to normal cells is one of the biggest challenges for interested researchers. Green tea (extracted from the plant Camellia sinensis) with high level of polyphenolic compounds and as the most globally consumed beverage has attracted considerable interest. MicroRNAs (or miRNAs) were considered as novel tools in cancer therapy which modulate various biological events in cell by regulation of gene expression. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the antitumor activity of green tea in LNCaP cells through up-regulation of miR-181a expression. Methods: First, LNCaP cells were cultured and by using quantitative real time PCR (qRT-PCR) and western blot methods, the expression levels of Bax and BCL2 were analyzed. Next, a 3D cell culture model was applied to evaluate the expression of miRNA-181a in LNCaP cells. Results: It was shown that green tea induced cellular apoptosis. The high number of apoptotic nuclei was also shown by using DAPI staining. The inhibition of tumor growth was revealed by analyzing the size and number of spheroids. Also, up-regulation of miR-181a expression in LNCaP cells was revealed after treatment with green tea. Conclusion: Our results are helpful to design antitumor regimens based on consumption of green tea through up-regulation of miRNA-181a expression and induction of apoptosis.

Abstract:Prostate cancer is a prevalent and debilitating disease that necessitates effective prevention and treatment strategies. Green tea, a well-known beverage derived from the Camellia sinensis plant, contains bioactive compounds with potential health benefits, including catechins and polyphenols. This comprehensive review aims to explore the potential benefits of green tea in prostate cancer prevention and treatment by examining existing literature. Green tea possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-carcinogenic properties attributed to its catechins, particularly epigallocatechin gallate. Epidemiological studies have reported an inverse association between green tea consumption and prostate cancer risk, with potential protection against aggressive forms of the disease. Laboratory studies demonstrate that green tea components inhibit tumor growth, induce apoptosis, and modulate signaling pathways critical to prostate cancer development and progression. Clinical trials and human studies further support the potential benefits of green tea. Green tea consumption has been found to be associated with a reduction in prostate-specific antigen levels, tumor markers, and played a potential role in slowing disease progression. However, challenges remain, including optimal dosage determination, formulation standardization, and conducting large-scale, long-term clinical trials. The review suggests future research should focus on combinatorial approaches with conventional therapies and personalized medicine strategies to identify patient subgroups most likely to benefit from green tea interventions.

Abstract:BackgroundThe enzymes and metabolic controllers of tumor cells are affecting by the regulation of physical activity and exercise training.AimThe aim of this study was to investigate the role of preventive and treatment of aerobic interval training in colon cancer with determining the protein values of MCT1, GLUT1, PFK-1 and expression of the p53 gene in tumor cells in the animal model.MethodsForty-eight male BALB/c mice (6–8 weeks old) participate in this study. Animals were equally randomized into 6 groups: I: control (C); healthy animals, II: Exercise (E), III: tumor induction (T); animals received AOM for inducing colon cancer, IV: AOM + exercise (TE); animals with colon cancer underwent 8 weeks of the exercise training protocol after tumor establishment, V: exercise + AOM (ET); animals received exercise protocol 1 week before AOM consumption, and (VI) exercise + AOM + exercise (ETE); animals received exercise protocol one week before and after AOM consumption (about 15 weeks) Groups III–VI were weekly-received AOM (as carcinogenic agent, 10 mg/kg s.c) in three consecutive weeks to induce colon cancer. Protein levels of GLUT1, MICT1 and PFK1 in solid colon tumor was measured by ELISA method. Also we used RTPcr for gene expression of P53. GAPDH were used as reference genes.ResultsThe results showed that the tumor significantly increased MCT1 in the tumor group compared to the control group (p = 0.001), Also, exercise before and after tumor induction reduced MCT1 in the colon (respectively: p = 0.02 and p = 0.01). Levels of GLUT1 colon in the tumor group showed a significant increase compared to the control group (p = 0.001), that exercise after tumor induction was effective in reducing this protein (p = 0.01). PFK-1 had a significant decrease in ET and TE groups compare to T group (p = 0.02 and p = 0.01, respectively). While the p53 gene decreased significantly in the tumor group compared to the control group (p = 0.01) Exercise before tumor induction and after tumor induction increased significantly (p = 0.01 and p = 0.04, respectively) in this gene compared to the tumor group.ConclusionLong-term aerobic training can act as a preventive or inhibitor of tumor progression by acting as an adjunct in the treatment of colon cancer. It seems that this preventive and treatment effects exercise training can attribute to regulation of lactate and glucose transporters by up-regulation of p53 colorectal cancer cell.
Enhanced Chemoprevention of Prostate Cancer by Combining Arctigenin with Green Tea and Quercetin in Prostate-Specific Phosphatase and Tensin Homolog Knockout Mice

Abstract:The low bioavailability of most phytochemicals limits their anticancer effects in humans. The present study was designed to test whether combining arctigenin (Arc), a lignan mainly from the seed of Arctium lappa, with green tea (GT) and quercetin (Q) enhances the chemopreventive effect on prostate cancer. We performed in vitro proliferation studies on different cell lines. We observed a strong synergistic anti-proliferative effect of GT+Q+Arc in exposing androgen-sensitive human prostate cancer LNCaP cells. The pre-malignant WPE1-NA22 cell line was more sensitive to this combination. No cytotoxicity was observed in normal prostate epithelial PrEC cells. For an in vivo study, 3-week-old, prostate-specific PTEN (phosphatase and tensin homolog) knockout mice were treated with GT+Q, Arc, GT+Q+Arc, or the control daily until 16 weeks of age. In vivo imaging using prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) probes demonstrated that the prostate tumorigenesis was significantly inhibited by 40% (GT+Q), 60% (Arc at 30 mg/kg bw), and 90% (GT+Q+Arc) compared to the control. A pathological examination showed that all control mice developed invasive prostate adenocarcinoma. In contrast, the primary lesion in the GT+Q and Arc alone groups was high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN), with low-grade PIN in the GT+Q+Arc group. The combined effect of GT+Q+Arc was associated with an increased inhibition of the androgen receptor, the PI3K/Akt pathway, Ki67 expression, and angiogenesis. This study demonstrates that combining Arc with GT and Q was highly effective in prostate cancer chemoprevention. These results warrant clinical trials to confirm the efficacy of this combination in humans.

Abstract:Background: Green tea polyphenols (GTPs) have been proposed as promising candidates for chemoprevention. However, GTPs levels are maintained relatively low in the blood and are chemically-unstable. Lipid-soluble tea polyphenols (LTPs) are products of modified GTPs with ester linkage with fatty acids. LTPs are lipophilic and expected to provide improved absorption and utilization in the body compared with water-soluble polyphenols. The current study was designed to investigate the chemo-preventive property and the possible mechanisms of LTP action against diethylnitrosamine (DEN)-induced liver cancer in rats. Materials and Methods: Oral administration of LTPs at doses of 0, 40, and 400 mg/kg/day was initiated 2 weeks prior to DEN injection and was continued for 30 weeks. At that time point samples were collected and liver histopathological analyses were performed. Results: LTPs decreased the area and number of placental glutathione 5-transferase-positive foci in liver samples of DEN-treated rats. Furthermore, LTPs counteracted DEN-induced fibrosis formation in liver. Immunohistochemical staining of rat liver showed that LTPs inhibited DEN-mediated elevations in numbers of cells positive for PCNA and 8-OHdG. Conclusion: For the first time, the present study demonstrated, that LTPs exert a chemo-preventive effect against precancerous lesions through inhibition of cellular proliferation and DNA damage in a rat liver model.

Abstract:Accumulating evidence supports green tea catechins (GTCs) in chemoprevention for prostate cancer (PCa), a leading cause of cancer morbidity and mortality among men. GTCs include (−)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate, which may modulate the molecular pathways implicated in prostate carcinogenesis. Prior studies of GTCs suggested that they are bioavailable, safe, and effective for modulating clinical and biological markers implicated in prostate carcinogenesis. GTCs may be of particular benefit to those with low-grade PCas typically managed with careful monitoring via active surveillance (AS). Though AS is recommended, it has limitations including potential under-grading, variations in eligibility, and anxiety reported by men while on AS. Secondary chemoprevention of low-grade PCas using GTCs may help address these limitations. When administrated orally, the gut microbiome enzymatically transforms GTC structure, altering its bioavailability, bioactivity, and toxicity. In addition to xenobiotic metabolism, the gut microbiome has multiple other physiological effects potentially involved in PCa progression, including regulating inflammation, hormones, and other known/unknown pathways. Therefore, it is important to consider not only the independent roles of GTCs and the gut microbiome in the context of PCa chemoprevention, but how gut microbes may relate to individual responses to GTCs, which, in turn, can enhance clinical decision-making.

Abstract:Abstract Background Administration of green tea (GT) catechins has been reported to ensue antitumor activity in combination with chemotherapeutic drugs against different cancer types. Irinotecan (IRN) is a highly effective chemotherapeutic drug against various types of cancer including colon cancer along with its analogous dose-limiting side effects viz. diarrhea, neutropenia, leucopenia, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) as major toxicities. Methods In this study, we investigated the antitumor effects of GT alone or in combination with IRN in inflammation-associated colon cancer mouse model induced by azoxymethane (AOM) and dextran sulfate sodium (DSS). We also evaluated the effect of GT- on IRN-induced toxicity and histopathological alterations. Animals were divided into six groups ( n = 5 per group). After induction of cancer model, animals were treated with GT and/or IRN. We observed the inflammation, tumor progression, and ameliorative effects of GT and IRN alone or in combination. Results Because of antioxidant potential of GT, IRN-induced toxicity ameliorative effect of GT was also studied in combined treated groups. It was found that co-administration of IRN and GT significantly decreased number of tumors and simultaneously was found to ameliorate diarrhea along with leucopenia and neutropenia. Besides these, mitigation of adenomatous characters and NAFLD was also observed in the IRN- and GT-treated group when analyzed histologically. Conclusions GT significantly reduced the toxicity induced by IRN in terms of diarrhea, neutropenia, leucopenia, and NAFLD and works as an effective anticancer agent as it mitigates histopathology of colon adenocarcinoma. Abstract:BACKGROUND:The purpose of the present study was to compare the antioxidant potential of lipophilic tea polyphenols (LTP) against the one of naturally-occurring water-soluble green tea polyphenols (GTP) in a two-stage model of diethylnitrosamine (DEN)/phenobarbital (PB)-induced hepatocarcinogenesis in Sprague-Dawley rats.MATERIALS AND METHODS:GTP/LTP was given 5-times weekly by oral gavage with tea polyphenols equivalent to 0-, 40- and 400-mg/kg of body weight/day. GTP/LTP treatment was started 2 weeks prior to the initiation of DEN and continued for 30 weeks.RESULTS:Histopathological and electron microscopic examination of liver tissue confirmed the protective effect of LTP on DEN/PB-induced liver damage and pre-carcinogenesis. LTP treatment significantly increased total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity in liver tissues. Immunohistochemical detection of cellular nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor-2 (Nrf2) and peroxiredoxin-6 (P6) indicated a down-regulation in Nrf2 and up-regulation of P6 expression in the liver of LTP-supplemented rats.CONCLUSION:The present study provides evidence for the first time, that LTP exerts significant antioxidant effects on DEN/PB-induced liver damage and hepatocarcinogenesis through elevating T-AOC levels, enhancing GSH-Px activity and inducing P6 expression in rat liver tissues.

Abstract:To determine the effects of sustained high levels of arginine vasopressin (AVP) on the fetus and whether these effects were the same as those found during acute infusion of AVP, chronically catheterized fetal sheep aged 121-136 days were infused for 3 days with either AVP (45 mU x kg(-1) x h(-1)) or saline. The bradycardia, acidemia, and failure of glomerulotubular balance that occurred with acute AVP infusion were reversed by day 3 of AVP (P < 0.005) and the acute rise in arterial pressure was attenuated (P < 0.005). By contrast, the rise in the glomerular filtration rate was sustained (P < 0.005) and urinary osmolality increased further to 426 +/- 30 mosmol/kg (P < 0.01). Although placental blood flow did not change acutely with AVP, it had fallen by day 3 (P < 0.01). In addition, with AVP but not saline extracellular volume fell from 588 +/- 28 to 493 +/- 29 ml/kg (P < 0.002) and the plasma/interstitial volume ratio rose from 0.18 +/- 0.01 to 0.21 +/- 0.01 (P = 0.001). These findings suggest that although release of AVP may be beneficial in acute stress in utero, sustained high levels may be detrimental to fetal health and sodium balance.

Abstract:Prostate cancer (PCa) is a prevalent form of malignancy in males and is a significant contributor to cancer-related mortality worldwide. Because of this, studying the molecular processes of PCa cell growth and death is crucial. Hence, it is imperative to conduct further research on the regulatory mechanism underlying the progression of PCa to enhance our comprehension and identify innovative therapeutic targets. The present study investigates an experimental approach that utilizes cost-effective and environmentally sustainable plant extracts sourced from Egypt, namely ginger, chamomile, and green tea, which have been solubilized in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), then characterized by using different analytical means and techniques, such as HPLC and GC-MS. The present study employed MTT assay, ELISA, and qRT-PCR techniques to assess the possible impact of the investigated extracts on PCa in PC-3 cells. The findings indicate that ginger exhibited a noteworthy cytotoxic impact on PC-3. Remarkably, the treatment of PCa cells with ginger significantly increased relative lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) production compared to those treated with chamomile and green tea extracts. Autophagy may play a crucial role in the context of chemotherapy. Modifying autophagy through its induction or inhibition is a promising and innovative approach to controlcancer progression. Accordingly, it was found that ginger extract affects protein expression levels of autophagy markers LC3B, ATg12, and pro-apoptotic signaling, including the Caspase-3 signaling pathway. The ELISA findings revealed a significant rise in the average levels of IL-1β and IL-8 after a 12-hour interval. To conclude, it can be inferred that ginger extract possesses the capability to control the production of inflammatory cytokines. Alternatively, utilizing herbal remedies containing ginger as a viable and secure means of treating PCa as an anticancer agent is possible.
Evaluation of Biophysical As Well As Biochemical Potential of Curcumin and Resveratrol During Prostate Cancer

Abstract:Purpose: The present study evaluated biochemical as well as biophysical mechanisms behind the synergistic effects of curcumin and resveratrol during prostate carcinogenesis. Methods: The rats were segregated into five groups that included normal control, 3,2 '-dimethyl-4-aminobiphenyl (DMAB)treated, DMAB + curcumin treated, DMAB + resveratrol-treated and DMAB + curcumin + resveratrol-treated. Results: The DMAB treatment resulted in a significant increase in the levels of lipid peroxidation (LPO) in DMAB treated rats. Also, significant changes were recorded in the enzyme activities of both drug metabolising enzyme and antioxidant enzymes after DMAB treatment. Further, radiorespirometric studies showed a significant increase in the C-14-glucose turnover as well as C-14-glucose uptake in the prostate slices of DMAB treated rats. Moreover, a significant rise in cell proliferation was confirmed indirectly by enhanced uptake of H-3-thymidine in the prostate slices of DMAB treated rats. Interestingly, combined treatment of curcumin and resveratrol to DMAB treated animals resulted in a significant decrease in lipid peroxidation, C-14 glucose uptakes/turnover and H-3-thymidine uptake in the DMAB treated rats. Besides this, curcumin and resveratrol in combination significantly modulated biochemical indices including drug-metabolising enzymes; antioxidant enzymes in DMBA treated rats. Conclusion: The study, therefore, concludes that the combination of curcumin and resveratrol holds strong modulatory potential against prostate carcinogenesis.
The green tea extract epigallocatechin-3-gallate inhibits irradiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis in adult rats

Abstract:The present study evaluated the effect of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), the most abundant catechin in green tea, on irradiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis and elucidated its mechanism of action. A rat model of irradiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis was generated using a (60)Co irradiator and a dose of 22 Gy. Rats were intraperitoneally injected with EGCG (25 mg/kg) or dexamethasone (DEX; 5 mg/kg) daily for 30 days. Mortality rates and lung index values were calculated. The severity of fibrosis was evaluated by assaying the hydroxyproline (Hyp) contents of pulmonary and lung tissue sections post-irradiation. Alveolitis and fibrosis scores were obtained from semi-quantitative analyses of hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and Masson's trichrome lung section staining, respectively. The serum levels of transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1), interleukin (IL)-6, IL-10, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were also measured. Surfactant protein-B (SPB) and α-SMA expression patterns were evaluated using immunohistochemistry, and the protein levels of nuclear transcription factor NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf-2) and its associated antioxidant enzymes heme oxygenase-1 enzyme (HO-1) andNAD(P)H: quinone oxidoreductase-1 (NQO-1) were examined via western blot analysis. Treatment with EGCG, but not DEX, reduced mortality rates and lung index scores, improved histological changes in the lung, reduced collagen depositions, reduced MDA content, enhanced SOD activity, inhibited (myo)fibroblast proliferation, protected alveolar epithelial type II (AE2) cells, and regulated serum levels of TGF-β1, IL-6, IL-10, and TNF-α. Treatment with EGCG, but not DEX, activated Nrf-2 and its downstream antioxidant enzymes HO-1 and NQO-1. Taken together, these results showed that EGCG treatment significantly inhibits irradiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis. Furthermore, the results suggested promising clinical EGCG therapies to treat this disorder.

Abstract:AIM To investigate the chemopreventive effects of green tea and tea pigment on 1,2dimethylhydrazine (DMH)-induced rat colorectal carcinogenesis.METHODS Male weaning Wistar rats were randomly allocated into four groups.Rats in the positive control group were given s.c.injection of DMH, once a week for ten weeks; rats in teatreated groups, with the same DMH treatment as in the positive group, received 2% green tea and 0.1% tea pigments; rats in the negative control group were given s.c.injection of the same volume of saline as well as DMH in the positive group.Animals were sacrified and necropsied at the end of week 16 and week 32.RESULTS Aberrant cryptic foci (ACF) were formed in animals in DMH-treated groups at the end of week 16.Compared to the DMH group, green tea and tea pigments groups had less ACF (148.25 and 204.25, respectively, P<0.01).At the end of week 32, all rats in DMH group developed large intestinal tumors.The results also showed that DMH increased labeling index (LI) of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) of intestinal mucosa and the expression of ras-p21.However, in the tea-treated groups, PCNA-LI was significantly reduced as compared with the positive control group (36.63 and 40.36 in the green tea group and tea pigment group, respectively, at the end of the experiment, P<0.01).ras-p21 expression was also signific antly reduced (2.07 and 2.36 in the colon tumors of rats in the green tea group and tea pigments group, respectively at the end of the experiment, P<0.01).Furthermore, green tea and tea pigment inhibited the expression of Bcl-2 protein (2, 5, 1, 0 and 2, 4, 1, 0, respectively, at the end of the experiment P<0.01), and induced expression of Bax protein (0, 1, 3, 4 and 0, 1, 4, 3, respectively, P<0.01). CONCLUSIONChinese green tea drinking inhibited ACF and colonic tumors formation in rats, which showed that tea had a significant chemopreventive effect on DMH-induced colorectal carcinogenesis.Such effects may be due to suppression of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis in the intestinal crypts.
