Abstract:Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract with a high incidence but a poor therapeutic outcome. However, IBD is generally caused by complicated interactions between environmental factors and gut microflora in genetically susceptible individuals. In view of a series of oral manifestations in patients with IBD and a high detection rate of oral bacteria among this population, oral microbiota may play an important role in the development of IBD. This article reviews the relationship between oral microbiota and IBD.
