Abstract:Rational design and construction of electrode materials with advanced nanostructures and composition superiority have been recognized as an effective strategy for enhancing electrochemical performance of supercapacitors (SCs). Herein, we have successfully designed a novel hierarchical (NiCo)Se2/CoFe2Se4 composite material with Co-FePBAs nanocubes anchored on nanorods by sequential hydrothermal reaction, precipitate reaction and selenylation treatment, which have been further served as electrode material for supercapacitors. As a result, the (NiCo)Se2/CoFe2Se4 hybrid electrode exhibits large specific capacity of 197 mAh/g at 3 mA/cm2, remarkable rate property and extraordinary cycle lifetime. Moreover, the assembled (NiCo)Se2/CoFe2Se4//AC device demonstrates a superior energy density of 0.912 mWh/cm2 at 1.93 mW/cm2 with preeminent cycle performance. The experimental results and density functional theory (DFT) proclaim that the synergistic effect of (NiCo)Se2 and CoFe2Se4 can generate more active sites, improve conductivity, as well as encourage the kinetics of the electrochemical reaction, thus achieving excellent electrochemical performance.

Abstract:Integrated hybrid nanoarrays with hierarchical porous structures have attracted much attention as energy materials for their excellent synergistic effects. Herein, we provide a facile strategy for integrating a NiCo2S4@Ni3S2 hybrid nanoneedle array on nickel foam derived from metal-organic framework (MOF) precursors and a Ni/Co-precursor by sulfurization. When directly used as the free-standing electrode for a supercapacitor, the NiCo2S4@Ni3S2 electrode exhibited a high specific capacitance of 1536.8 F g(-1) at 1 A g(-1). Furthermore, the assembled NiCo2S4@Ni3S2//AC asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) exhibited a high energy density of 35.26 W h kg(-1) at a power density of 724.93 W kg(-1). The capacitance retention of NiCo2S4@Ni3S2 was up to 97.4% after 10000 cycles.

Abstract:One of the key challenges for pseudocapacitive electrode materials with highly effective capacitance output and future practical applications is how to rationally construct hierarchical and ordered hybrid nanoarchitecture through the simple process. Herein, we design and synthesize a novel NiMn-layered double hydroxide nanosheet@Ni 3 S 2 nanorod hybrid array supported on porous nickel foam via a one-pot hydrothermal method. Benefited from the ultrathin and rough nature, the well-defined porous structure of the hybrid array, as well as the synergetic effect between NiMn-layered double hydroxide nanosheets and Ni 3 S 2 nanorods, the as-fabricated hybrid array-based electrode exhibits an ultrahigh specific capacitance of 2703 F g −1 at 3 A g −1 . Moreover, the asymmetric supercapacitor with this hybrid array as a positive electrode and wood-derived activated carbon as a negative electrode demonstrates high energy density (57 Wh Kg −1 at 738 W Kg −1 ) and very good electrochemical cycling stability.
Hierarchical core-shelled CoMo layered double hydroxide@CuCo2S4 nanowire arrays/nickel foam for advanced hybrid supercapacitors

Abstract:The development of core-shelled heterostructures with the unique morphology can improve the electrochemical properties of hybrid supercapacitors (HSC). Here, CuCo2S4 nanowire arrays (NWAs) are vertically grown on nickel foam (NF) utilizing hydrothermal synthesis. Then, CoMo-LDH nanosheets are uniformly deposited on the CuCo2S4 NWAs by electrodeposition to obtain the CoMo-LDH@CuCo2S4 NWAs/NF electrode. Due to the superior conductivity of CuCo2S4 (core) and good redox activity of CoMo-LDH (shell), the electrode shows excellent electrochemical properties. The electrode's specific capacity is 1271.4 C g-1 at 1 A g-1, and after 10, 000 cycles, its capacity retention ratio is 92.2 % at 10 A g-1. At a power density of 983.9 W kg-1, the CoMo-LDH@CuCo2S4 NWAs/NF//AC/NF device has an energy density of 52.2 Wh kg-1. This indicates that CoMo-LDH@CuCo2S4/NF has a great potential for supercapacitors.

Abstract:Tailoring the electronic structure of nanomaterials by constructing core-shell heterostruture is a compelling strategy to design novel electrode materials with modified physiochemical properties for supercapacitors with improved performance. Herein, for the first time, we in situ fabricate iron nickel selenide (FeNiSe2)@nickel cobalt sulfide (Ni4.5Co4.5S8) core-shell nanosheet arrays on carbon cloth by an electrodeposition approach and a selenization treatment. This three-dimensional hierarchcial porous framework formed by plentiful interconnected nanosheets can expose numerous redox active sites with varied oxidation states and provide a conductive and porous skeleton for rapid ion/electrolyte ions transport. Benefiting from its modulated electronic structure and synergetic effect of metal-like FeNiSe2 and Ni4.5Co4.5S8, the as-synthesized FeNiSe2@Ni4.5Co4.5S8 electrode displays a large specific capacity of 236.9 mAh g-1 at 1 A g-1, remarkable rate capability with 80.6% capacity retention at 20 A g-1, and stable cyclic performance, which are superior to those of pure FeNiSe2 and Ni4.5Co4.5S8 electrodes. Besides, the assembled FeNiSe2@Ni4.5Co4.5S8//porous carbon hybrid supercapacitor device offers an energy density of 69.0 Wh kg-1 at 799.2 W kg-1, and exceptional cycling stability with 91.2% capacity retention after 10,000 cycles. This work offers a synthetic strategy to explore core-shell electrode materials with tunable architecture and morphology for high-performance energy storage devices.

Abstract:High-performance supercapacitors have attracted considerable interests due to their high-power density, fast charge/discharge process and long cycle life. However, the wide application of supercapacitors is limited by their low energy density. Herein, the hierarchical core–shell structured NiCoP@NiS nanoarrays have been successfully synthesized by using the vertically grown nickel–cobalt bimetallic phosphide (NiCoP) nanowire as the core and the nickel sulfide (NiS) by electrodeposition as the shell. As the “super channel” for electron transfer, the NiCoP core is coupled with the NiS shell to promote rapid diffusion of electrons and improve cycle stability of the electrode. Consequently, the optimized NiCoP@NiS nanoarrays display an extremely good specific capacitance (2128F g-1 at 1 A g-1) and a superior long cycle life (the capacitance retention of 90.36 % after 10,000 cycles). A hybrid supercapacitor (HSC) has been assembled using the NiCoP@NiS as the positive and the activated carbon (AC) as the negative, which displays a superior energy density of 30.47 Wh kg−1 at a remarkable power energy of 800 W kg−1. This study shows that the prepared hierarchical core–shell structured nanoarrays have great prospects as a novel electrode material in energy storage.

Abstract:Constructing multicomponent electrode materials with a rational structure is an effective route to develop high-performance supercapacitors. We herein report a novel nickel-foam-supported hierarchical CoO@Ni(OH)(2)nanowire-nanosheet core-shell heterostructure array synthesized by a facile hydrothermal-electrodeposition strategy. The core CoO nanowire arrays with good electrical conductivity and shell Ni(OH)(2)nanosheets with thickness of similar to 2 nm synergistically contributes to increased active sites, fast mass transfer, and improved structural stability. Consequently, the optimal CoO@Ni(OH)(2)-400 s architecture delivers a high specific capacitance of 1418.2 F g(-1)at 1 A g(-1)and 93.7% retention after 5000 cycles. Furthermore, the CoO@Ni(OH)(2)//activated carbon asymmetric supercapacitor could achieve an outstanding energy density of up to 92.47 W h kg(-1)at 800 W kg(-1). This simple but effective strategy provides insight into the development of core-shell hierarchical architectures for constructing high-performance supercapacitors.

Abstract:For constructing high-performance hybrid supercapacitor devices, it is vital to exploit a battery-type cathode with enhanced kinetics and improved cyclic performance to match with a capacitive anode. Herein, highly porous FeCoSe2@NiCo-LDH core-shell nanosheet arrays were in situ decorated on face of carbon cloth via an electrodeposition approach and a selenylation treatment. The hierarchical heterostructure consisting of two types of vertically aligned interconnected two-dimensional nanosheets not only offers huge surface area and available diffusion pathways for quick electron/ion transport, but also generates plentiful heterointerfaces with modified electronic structure and enables synergetic effect between dual components. Consequently, the well-designed FeCoSe2@NiCo-LDH electrode displays a greatly boosted specific capacity of 220.9 mA h g-1 at 1 A g-1, 83.5% capacity retention at 20 A g-1, and wonderful cyclic stability, which are superior to those of single component. Furthermore, the hybrid supercapacitor device with a FeCoSe2@NiCo-LDH electrode and a hierarchical porous carbon electrode illustrates an extensive energy density of 65.9 Wh kg-1 at 1.248 kW kg-1 combined with long lifetime with 87.6% capacity retention over 10,000 cycles. Controlled Preparation of Cobalt Carbonate Hydroxide@nickel Aluminum Layered Double Hydroxide Core-Shell Heterostructure for Advanced Supercapacitors

Abstract:Herein, we report the rational fabrication of unique core-shell nanoclusters composed of cobalt carbonate hydroxide (Co-CH) @ nickel aluminum layered double hydroxide (NiAl-LDH) on a carbon cloth (CC) substrate using a two-step hydrothermal strategy. The one-dimensional (1D) Co-CH nanowires core-shell functions as a framework for the growth of two-dimensional (2D) NiAl-LDH nanosheets, leading to the formation of a hierarchically porous core-shell heterostructure. The presence of abundant heterointerfaces enhances electrical conductivity, reduces charge transfer resistance, and facilitates ion/electron transfer. Taking full advantage of its unique nanostructure and synergistic effect of two components, the as-prepared Co-CH@NiAl-LDH hybrid material illustrates a specific capacity of 1029.4 C/g (2058.9 mC cm-2) at 1 A g-1 and good rate capability with a capacity retention of 68.5% at 20 A g-1. Additionally, the assembled Co-CH@NiAl-LDH//pine pollen-derived porous carbon (PPC) hybrid supercapacitor (HSC) delivers impressive energy and power densities of 66.2 Wh kg-1 (0.27 Wh cm-2) and 17529.7 Wh kg-1 (0.11 Wh cm-2), respectively. This device also achieves a superior capacity retention of 80.3% over 20,000 cycles. These findings prove the importance of engineering heterointerfaces in heterostructure for the promotion of energy storage performance.
NiCoMn-LDH with core-shell heterostructures based on CoS nanotube arrays containing multiple ion diffusion channels for boosted supercapacitor applications

Abstract:Nanostructure engineering and composition rationalization are crucial for materials to become candidates for high-performance supercapacitor. Herein, a novel core-shell heterostructured electrode, combining CoS hollow nanorods with NiCoMn-layered double hydroxides (LDH) ternary metal nanosheets, were prepared on carbon cloth by reasonably controlled vulcanization and electrodeposition. By optimizing electrodeposition conditions, the material's structure and properties can be fine-tuned. The enhanced capacitance of the optimized carbon cloth (CC)@CoS/NiCoMn-LDH-300 electrode (4256.0 F g−1) lies in the open space provided by CoS and the establishment of a new charge transfer channel across the interfaces of CC@CoS/NiCoMn-LDH-300 nanosheets. This is further demonstrated by Density functional theory (DFT) simulations based on OH− adsorption energy, which produces faster redox charge kinetics and significantly enhances the electrode's energy storage capacity. The hybrid supercapacitor, integrating the optimized CC@CoS/NiCoMn-LDH-300 electrode with active carbon, demonstrates the highest energy density of 86 Wh kg−1 (under the power density of 850 W kg−1) and the long cycle stability of 89.7%. This study aims to go beyond simple binary LDH by constructing a ternary LDH with a hierarchical core-shell heterostructure to provide an effective and feasible new concept for high-performance supercapacitor electrode materials via rational structure design.

Abstract:Nickel cobalt sulfides (Ni-Co-S) have attracted extensive attention for application in electronic devices owing to their excellent conductivity and high electrochemical capacitance. To facilitate the large-scale practical application of Ni-Co-S, the excellent rate capability and cyclic stability of these compounds must be fully exploited. Thus, hierarchical Ni-Co-S@Ni-W-O (Ni-Co-S-W) core/shell hybrid nanosheet arrays on nickel foam were designed and synthesized herein via a facile three-step hydrothermal method, followed by annealing in a tubular furnace under argon atmosphere. The hybrid structure was directly assembled as a free-standing electrode, which exhibited a high specific capacitance of 1,988 F·g−1 at 2 A·g−1 and retained an excellent capacitance of approximately 1,500 F·g−1 at 30 A·g−1, which is superior to the performance of the pristine Ni-Co-S nanosheet electrode. The assembled asymmetric supercapacitors achieved high specific capacitance (155 F·g−1 at 1 A·g−1), electrochemical stability, and a high energy density of 55.1 W·h·kg−1 at a power density of 799.8 W·kg−1 with the optimized Ni-Co-S-W core/shell nanosheets as the positive electrode, activated carbon as the negative electrode, and 6 M KOH as the electrolyte.

Abstract:The composites of NiCo2O4 with unique structures are extensively explored as promising electrodes. In this work, core-shell structured nanowires anchored on nickel foam are synthesized by the hydrothermal synthesis of NiCo2O4 as core and subsequent electrodeposition of alpha-Co(OH)(2) as shell. The core-shell composites exhibit enhanced electrochemical performances ascribing to the synergistic reactions from both materials, showing higher specific capacitance than any single component. By changing the deposition time, the mass loading of alpha-Co(OH)(2) can be easily controlled. The electrochemical performances of the hybrid electrodes are diverse with the mass loading of Co(OH)(2). The optimized hybrid electrode with 3 mins electrodeposition exhibits the highest specific capacitance (1298 F g(-1) at 1 A g(-1)) among all electrodes. The redox reaction is a main contributor to the total specific capacitance through electrochemical kinetics analysis. An asymmetric supercapacitor assembled by the optimized material as positive electrode and activated carbon as negative electrode can achieve a relatively high energy density of 39.7 Wh kg(-1) at a power density of 387.5 W kg(-1) (at 0.5 A g(-1)) in a voltage of 1.55 V. Abstract:Recently, researchers have shown increasing interest in transition metal phosphides (TMPs) for their outstanding performance on electrochemical energy storage. Herein, we take a simple hydrothermal route to prepare NiCoP/Co (OH)(2) nanoarrays. The constructing of 3D hierarchical core-shell structure endows the material with enlarged contact area, reduced ion diffusion distance and better mechanical stability. Therefore, NiCoP/Co (OH)(2) electrode combining NiCoP with high electrochemical activity and Co (OH)(2) with superior stability exhibits remarkable electrochemical performance with specific capacity of 304 mAh g(-1) at 1 A g(-1) and retains 80% of the initial capacity at 20 A g(-1). Furthermore, the as-fabricated asymmetric supercapacitors display outstanding long-term cycle life with 87% retention after 6000 cycles at 10 A g(-1) and high energy density/power density. Abstract:Core-shell nanostructured compounds have been investigated as encouraging electrodes for supercapacitors because of their high electrical conductivity and easy access to active sites. In this work, a hierarchical ZnCo LDH@Ni3S2 core@shell nanostructure has been synthesized using a simple method. The ZnCo LDH@Ni3S2 showed excellent capacity (1069C g−1 at 2 A g−1), considerable rate performance, and good durability, which is superior to those of the ZnCo LDH and Ni3S2 individual electrodes. In addition, an asymmetric supercapacitor has been prepared using ZnCo LDH@Ni3S2 and activated carbon as the positive and negative electrodes, respectively. The asymmetric supercapacitor exhibited a 39 W h kg−1 maximum energy density at 423 W kg−1 power density, 87 % of the initial capacity being retained after 5000 cycles. Moreover, the electrochemical performance of the hybrid supercapacitor fabricated can be enhanced by the synergism between the active materials. This study provides a good strategy for core@shell structure design of ZnCo LDH electrode combined with Ni3S2 modification. Additionally, it also improves electrochemical performance and achieves to high energy and power.

Hierarchical NiCoO2@Ni3S2 core/shell nanoflakes arrays with superior capacitive performances for energy storage

Abstract:Herein, it reports the design and synthesis of NiCoO2@Ni3S2 core/shell arrays on Ni foam using a two-step method of hydrothermal method and electrodeposition. The hetero-structures are composed of NiCoO2 flakes as the core-material and Ni3S2 ultrathin nanosheets as the shell-material. Due to the unique core/shell hetero-structure and positive synergistic effect of two components, hierarchical NiCoO2@Ni3S2 arrays exhibit excellent capacitive performance as energy storage materials. The mass specific capacity of NiCoO2@Ni3S2 is as high as 1599.5C g−1 at 1.0 A g−1, which is higher than the sum of the capacity of the two samples NiCoO2/NF(640.0C g−1) and Ni3S2/NF(695.3C g−1). NiCoO2@Ni3S2/NF also shows a very high areal specific capacity of 4.06 C cm−2. Therefore, NiCoO2@Ni3S2 arrays greatly releases the energy storage potential of the NiCoO2 and Ni3S2 materials in supercapacitors. Furthermore, a hybrid supercapacitor device fabricated using NiCoO2@Ni3S2/NF as positive electrode and the graphene as negative electrode possesses a high energy density of 73.97 Wh kg−1 at a power density of 800 W kg−1, and maintain 22.01 Wh kg−1 at a high power density of 12.8 kW kg−1. These results demonstrate that hierarchical NiCoO2@Ni3S2 core/shell arrays have great potential as a positive electrode in supercapacitor with high energy density.
3D TiO2@Ni(OH)2 Core-shell Arrays with Tunable Nanostructure for Hybrid Supercapacitor Application

Abstract:Three dimensional hierarchical nanostructures have attracted great attention for electrochemical energy storage applications. In this work, self-supported TiO2@Ni(OH)2 core-shell nanowire arrays are prepared on carbon fiber paper via the combination of hydrothermal synthesis and chemical bath deposition. In this core-shell hybrid, the morphology and wall size of the interconnected nanoflake shell of Ni(OH)2 can be tuned through adjusting the concentration of ammonia solution. Heterogeneous nucleation and subsequent oriented crystal growth are identified to be the synthesis mechanism affecting the nanostructure of the shell material, which consequently determines the electrochemical performance in both energy storage and charge transfer. Superior capabilities of 264 mAh g(-1) at 1 A g(-1) and 178 mAh g(-1) at 10 A g(-1) are achieved with the core-shell hybrids of the optimized structure. The asymmetric supercapacitor prototype, comprising of TiO2@Ni(OH)2 as the anode and mesoporous carbons (MCs) as the cathode, is shown to exhibit superior electrochemical performance with high energy and power densities. The present work provides a clear illustration of the structure-property relationship in nanocrystal synthesis and offers a potential strategy to enhance the battery type Ni(OH)2 electrode in a hybrid supercapacitor device.

Abstract:Sluggish kinetics and poor structural stability are two main obstacles hampering the exploration of transition metal selenides (TMSs) for supercapacitor. Developing a reasonable core-shell heterostructure with unique morphology is an effective approach to resolve these issues. Herein, a core-shell cobalt iron selenide (CoFe2Se4) @ cobalt nickel carbonate hydroxide (CoNi-CH) heterostructure is directly fabricated on carbon cloth via an electrodeposition method followed by a hydrothermal reaction. In this well-defined heterostructure, one-dimensional (1D) CoFe2Se4 nanowires function as the cores and CoNi-CH nanowires as the shells, which combines the merits of highly conductive CoFe2Se4 for rapid electron transfer and highly electroactive CoNi-CH for multiple redox reactions. Further, the intimate interaction between CoNi-CH and CoFe2Se4 realizes large surface area with hierarchical network and generates rich heterointerfaces with modified the electronic structure. By virtue of its facile 1D-on-1D nanoarchitecture and synergistic effect, the CoFe2Se4@CoNi-CH electrode delivers a increased specific capacity of 218.6 mAh g-1 at 1 A-1 and enhanced rate capability (65.5% at 20 A g-1) compared with pure CoFe2Se4 and CoNi-CH. Besides, a hybrid supercapacitor is established by coupling CoFe2Se4@CoNi-CH cathode and porous carbon anode, which enjoys a maximum energy density of 67.3 Wh kg-1 at 765.9 W kg-1 and prominent durability with 85.4% of capacity retention over 20000 cycles.

Abstract:Abstract: An effective technique for improving electrochemical efficiency is to rationally design hierarchical nanostructures that completely optimize the advantages of single components and establish an interfacial effect between structures. In this study, core-shell NiMoO4@Ni9S8/MoS2 hetero-structured nanorods are prepared via a facile hydrothermal process followed by a direct sulfurization. The resulting hierarchical architecture with outer Ni9S8/MoS2 nanoflakes shell on the inner NiMoO4 core offers plentiful active sites and ample charge transfer pathways in continuous heterointerfaces. Ascribing to the porous core-shell configuration and synergistic effect of bimetal sulfides, the obtained NiMoO4@Ni9S8/MoS2 as electrode material presents an unsurpassed specific capacity of 373.4 F g-1 at 10 A g-1 and remarkable cycling performance in the 6 M KOH electrolyte. This work delivers a rational method for designing highly efficient electrodes for supercapacitors, enlightening the road of exploring low-cost materials in the energy storage domain. Rational Design of Hierarchical FeCo2O4 Nanosheets@nio Nanowhiskers Core-Shell Heterostructure As Binder-Free Electrodes for Efficient Pseudocapacitors

Abstract:Hierarchical core-shell nanoarchitectures have triggered significant technological and scientific interests because of their remarkable versatility in nanoscale electronics and energy storage systems. Meanwhile, designing and fabricating the heterostructure electrode materials by employing effective interface modification could acquire prominent electrochemical performance for supercapacitors. In this study, we reported that FeCo2O4 nanosheets were first synthesized on Ni foam, and then the novel microstructure of NiO nanowhiskers was covered on FeCo2O4 by surface modification. The FeCo2O4 NSs@NiO NWs composite with hierarchical and core-shell structure presented ultrahigh specific capacitance of 4746.2 F g(-1) at the current density of 1 A g(-1), and the remarkable capacitance retention was 88.9% after 8000 cycles at 5 A g(-1). Meanwhile, the asymmetric supercapacitors (FeCo2O4 NSs@NiONWs//AC) exhibited excellent energy density of 60.6 Wh kg(-1) and remarkable power density of 30 kW kg(-1), which could efficiently light up 23 red LED (1.8 V). The device also displayed prominent cyclic stability with 130.8% capacitance retention after 8000 cycles at a current density of 5 A g(-1). This work presented a new method to accomplish a controllable synthesis of hierarchical core-shell heterostructure as electrode materials for high-performance electrochemical energy storage.
