Abstract:Background: Sugarcane bagasse (SCB) is one of the most promising lignocellulosic biomasses for use in the production of biofuels. However, bioethanol production from pure SCB fermentation is still limited by its high process cost and low fermentation efficiency. Sugarcane molasses, as a carbohydrate-rich biomass, can provide fermentable sugars for ethanol production. Herein, to reduce high processing costs, molasses was integrated into lignocellulosic ethanol production in batch modes to improve the fermentation system and to boost the final ethanol concentration and yield. Results: The co-fermentation of pretreated SCB and molasses at ratios of 3:1 (mixture A) and 1:1 (mixture B) were conducted at solid loadings of 12% to 32%, and the fermentation of pretreated SCB alone at the same solid loading was also compared. At a solid loading of 32%, the ethanol concentrations of 64.10 g/L, 74.69 g/L, and 75.64 g/L were obtained from pure SCB, mixture A, and mixture B, respectively. To further boost the ethanol concentration, the fermentation of mixture B (1:1), with higher solid loading from 36 to 48%, was also implemented. The highest ethanol concentration of 94.20 g/L was generated at a high solid loading of 44%, with an ethanol yield of 72.37%. In addition, after evaporation, the wastewater could be converted to biogas by anaerobic digestion. The final methane production of 312.14 mL/g volatile solids (VS) was obtained, and the final chemical oxygen demand removal and VS degradation efficiency was 85.9% and 95.9%, respectively. Conclusions: Molasses could provide a good environment for the growth of yeast and inoculum. Integrating sugarcane molasses into sequential cellulosic biofuel production could improve the utilization of biomass resources.

Abstract:Isomaltulose is becoming a focus as a functional sweetener for sucrose substitutes; however, isomaltulose production using sucrose as the substrate is not economical. Low-cost feedstocks are needed for their production. In this study, beet molasses (BM) was introduced as the substrate to produce isomaltulose for the first time. Immobilized sucrose isomerase (SIase) was proved as the most efficient biocatalyst for isomaltulose synthesis from sulfuric acid (H 2 SO 4 ) pretreated BM followed by centrifugation for the removal of insoluble matters and reducing viscosity. The effect of different factors on isomaltulose production is investigated. The isomaltulose still achieved a high concentration of 446.4 ± 5.5 g/L (purity of 85.8%) with a yield of 0.94 ± 0.02 g/g under the best conditions (800 g/L pretreated BM, 15 U immobilized SIase/g dosage, 40°C, pH of 5.5, and 10 h) in the eighth batch. Immobilized SIase used in repeated batch reaction showed good reusability to convert pretreated BM into isomaltulose since the sucrose conversion rate remained 97.5% in the same batch and even above 94% after 11 batches. Significant cost reduction of feedstock costs was also confirmed by economic analysis. The findings indicated that this two-step process to produce isomaltulose using low-cost BM and immobilized SIase is feasible. This process has the potential to be effective and promising for industrial production and application of isomaltulose as a functional sweetener for sucrose substitute.

Abstract:IL‐15 and IL‐15 receptor alpha (IL‐15RA) play a significant role in multiple aspects of T‐cell biology. However, given the evidence that IL‐15RA can present IL‐15 in trans, the functional capacity of IL‐15RA expressed on CD8+ T cells to modify IL‐15 functions in cis is currently unclear. In the current study, we explore the functional consequences of IL‐15RA, expression on T cells using a novel method to transfect naive CD8+ T cells. We observed that RNA nucleofection led to highly efficient, non‐toxic, and rapid manipulation of protein expression levels in unstimulated CD8+ T cells. We found that transfection of unstimulated CD8+ T cells with IL‐15RA RNA led to enhanced viability of CD8+ T cells in response to IL‐15. Transfection with IL‐15RA enhanced IL‐15‐mediated phosphorylation of STAT5 and also promoted IL‐15‐mediated proliferation in vivo of adoptively transferred naïve CD8+ T cells. We demonstrated that IL‐15RA can present IL‐15 via cis‐presentation on CD8+ T cells. Finally, we showed that transfection with a chimeric construct linking IL‐15 to IL‐15RA cell autonomously enhances the viability and proliferation of primary CD8+ T cells and cytotoxic potential of antigen‐specific CD8+ T cells. The clinical implications of the current study are discussed.
A Novel Cost-Effective Technology to Convert Sucrose and Homocelluloses in Sweet Sorghum Stalks into Ethanol.

Abstract:Background: Sweet sorghum is regarded as a very promising energy crop for ethanol production because it not only supplies grain and sugar, but also offers lignocellulosic resource. Cost-competitive ethanol production requires bioconversion of all carbohydrates in stalks including of both sucrose and lignocellulose hydrolyzed into fermentable sugars. However, it is still a main challenge to reduce ethanol production cost and improve feasibility of industrial application. An integration of the different operations within the whole process is a potential solution.Results: An integrated process combined advanced solid-state fermentation technology (ASSF) and alkaline pretreatment was presented in this work. Soluble sugars in sweet sorghum stalks were firstly converted into ethanol by ASSF using crushed stalks directly. Then, the operation combining ethanol distillation and alkaline pretreatment was performed in one distillation-reactor simultaneously. The corresponding investigation indicated that the addition of alkali did not affect the ethanol recovery. The effect of three alkalis, NaOH, KOH and Ca(OH)(2) on pretreatment were investigated. The results indicated the delignification of lignocellulose by NaOH and KOH was more significant than that by Ca(OH)(2), and the highest removal of xylan was caused by NaOH. Moreover, an optimized alkali loading of 10% (w/w DM) NaOH was determined. Under this favorable pretreatment condition, enzymatic hydrolysis of sweet sorghum bagasse following pretreatment was investigated. 92.0% of glucan and 53.3% of xylan conversion were obtained at enzyme loading of 10 FPU/g glucan. The fermentation of hydrolyzed slurry was performed using an engineered stain, Zymomonas mobilis TSH-01. A mass balance of the overall process was calculated, and 91.9 kg was achieved from one tonne of fresh sweet sorghum stalk.Conclusions: A low energy-consumption integrated technology for ethanol production from sweet sorghum stalks was presented in this work. Energy consumption for raw materials preparation and pretreatment were reduced or avoided in our process. Based on this technology, the recalcitrance of lignocellulose was destructed via a cost-efficient process and all sugars in sweet sorghum stalks lignocellulose were hydrolysed into fermentable sugars. Bioconversion of fermentable sugars released from sweet sorghum bagasse into different products except ethanol, such as butanol, biogas, and chemicals was feasible to operate under low energy-consumption conditions.

Abstract:Isomaltulose is a structural isomer of sucrose commercially used in food industries. In this work, recombinant Escherichia coli producing sucrose isomerase (SIase) was used to convert sucrose into isomaltulose. To develop an economical industrial medium, untreated cane molasses (10.63 g l−1), yeast extract (25.93 g l−1), and corn steep liquor (10.45 g l−1) were used as main culture compositions for SIase production. The relatively high SIase activity (14.50 ± 0.11 U mg DCW−1) was obtained by the recombinant cells. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first investigation on SIase production by engineered E. coli using untreated cane molasses. The recombinant E. coli cells expressing the SIase gene were immobilized in calcium alginate gel in order to improve the efficiency of recycling. The immobilization was most effective with 2 % (w/v) sodium alginate and 3 % (w/v) calcium chloride. The optimal initial biomass for immobilization was 20 % (w/v, wet wt.), with a hardening time of 8 h for cell immobilization. The immobilized E. coli cells exhibited good stability for 30 batches with the productivity of 0.45 g isomaltulose g pellet−1 h−1. A continuous isomaltulose formation process using a column reactor remained stable for 40 days with 83 ± 2 % isomaltulose yield, which would be beneficial for economical production of isomaltulose.

Abstract:Lignocellulosic biomass is a vast and underutilized resource for the production of sugars and biofuels. However, the structural complexity of lignocellulosic biomass and the need for multiple pretreatment and enzymatic steps for sugar release renders this process economically challenging. Here, we report a novel approach for direct, single container, exogenous enzyme-free conversion of lignocellulosic biomass to sugars and biofuels using the anaerobic fungal isolate strain C1A. This approach utilizes simple physiological manipulations for timely inhibition and uncoupling of saccharolytic and fermentative capabilities of strain C1A, leading to the accumulation of sugar monomers (glucose and xylose) in the culture medium. The produced sugars, in addition to fungal hyphal lysate, are subsequently converted by Escherichia coli strain K011 to ethanol. Using this approach, we successfully recovered 17.0% (w/w) of alkali-pretreated corn stover (20.0% of its glucan and xylan content) as sugar monomers in the culture media. More importantly, 14.1% of pretreated corn stover (17.1% of glucan and xylan content) was recovered as ethanol at a final concentration of 28.16 mM after the addition of the ethanologenic strain K011. The high ethanol yield obtained is due to its accumulation as a minor fermentation end product by strain C1A during its initial growth phase, the complete conversion of sugars to ethanol by strain K011, and the possible conversion of unspecified substrates in the hyphal lysate of strain C1A to ethanol by strain K011. This study presents a novel, versatile, and exogenous enzyme-free strategy that utilizes a relatively unexplored group of organisms (anaerobic fungi) for direct biofuel production from lignocellulosic biomass.

Abstract:Background: Xylitol is a commercially important chemical with multiple applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries. According to the US Department of Energy, xylitol is one of the top twelve platform chemicals that can be produced from biomass. The chemical method for xylitol synthesis is however, expensive and energy intensive. In contrast, the biological route using microbial cell factories offers a potential cost-effective alternative process. The bioprocess occurs under ambient conditions and makes use of biocatalysts and biomass which can be sourced from renewable carbon originating from a variety of cheap waste feedstocks. Result: In this study, biotransformation of xylose to xylitol was investigated using Yarrowia lipolytica, an oleaginous yeast which was firstly grown on a glycerol/glucose for screening of co-substrate, followed by media optimisation in shake flask, scale up in bioreactor and downstream processing of xylitol. A two-step medium optimization was employed using central composite design and artificial neural network coupled with genetic algorithm. The yeast amassed a concentration of 53.2 g/L xylitol using pure glycerol (PG) and xylose with a bioconversion yield of 0.97 g/g. Similar results were obtained when PG was substituted with crude glycerol (CG) from the biodiesel industry (titer: 50.5 g/L; yield: 0.92 g/g). Even when xylose from sugarcane bagasse hydrolysate was used as opposed to pure xylose, a xylitol yield of 0.54 g/g was achieved. Xylitol was successfully crystallized from PG/xylose and CG/xylose fermentation broths with a recovery of 39.5 and 35.3%, respectively. Conclusion: To the best of the author's knowledge, this study demonstrates for the first time the potential of using Y. lipolytica as a microbial cell factory for xylitol synthesis from inexpensive feedstocks. The results obtained are competitive with other xylitol producing organisms.

Abstract:The aim of this study is to evaluate the industrial waste cane molasses as a carbon source for cell growth, lipid and astaxanthin production of Chlorella zofingiensis. Pretreated with cation exchange resin to remove the metal ions, cane molasses provided better productivities of biomass, lipid, and astaxanthin (1.55, 0.71 g L-1 day(-1) and 1.7 mg L-1 day(-1), respectively) than glucose. Using a strategy of semi-continuous cultures coupled with feeding at a low concentration, molasses without pretreatment has the same effect as pretreated one on supporting the algal cell growth, lipid and astaxanthin production. The efficient metabolism of molasses triggered the up-regulation of genes involved in fatty acid and also astaxanthin biosynthesis, leading to the very high production of the two metabolites. This study highlights the possibility of using C. zofingiensis to deal with industrial wastes and to produce profitable biodiesel as well as the high-value astaxanthin. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. Comparative lipid production by oleaginous yeasts in hydrolyzates of lignocellulosic biomass and process strategy for high titers

Abstract:Oleaginous yeasts can convert sugars to lipids with fatty acid profiles similar to those of vegetable oils, making them attractive for production of biodiesel. Lignocellulosic biomass is an attractive source of sugars for yeast lipid production because it is abundant, potentially low cost, and renewable. However, lignocellulosic hydrolyzates are laden with byproducts which inhibit microbial growth and metabolism. With the goal of identifying oleaginous yeast strains able to convert plant biomass to lipids, we screened 32 strains from the ARS Culture Collection, Peoria, IL to identify four robust strains able to produce high lipid concentrations from both acid and base-pretreated biomass. The screening was arranged in two tiers using undetoxified enzyme hydrolyzates of ammonia fiber expansion (AFEX)-pretreated cornstover as the primary screening medium and acid-pretreated switch grass as the secondary screening medium applied to strains passing the primary screen. Hydrolyzates were prepared at ∼18-20% solids loading to provide ∼110 g/L sugars at ∼56:39:5 mass ratio glucose:xylose:arabinose. A two stage process boosting the molar C:N ratio from 60 to well above 400 in undetoxified switchgrass hydrolyzate was optimized with respect to nitrogen source, C:N, and carbon loading. Using this process three strains were able to consume acetic acid and nearly all available sugars to accumulate 50-65% of cell biomass as lipid (w/w), to produce 25-30 g/L lipid at 0.12-0.22 g/L/h and 0.13-0.15 g/g or 39-45% of the theoretical yield at pH 6 and 7, a performance unprecedented in lignocellulosic hydrolyzates. Three of the top strains have not previously been reported for the bioconversion of lignocellulose to lipids. The successful identification and development of top-performing lipid-producing yeast in lignocellulose hydrolyzates is expected to advance the economic feasibility of high quality biodiesel and jet fuels from renewable biomass, expanding the market potential for lignocellulose-derived fuels beyond ethanol for automobiles to the entire U.S. transportation market. Abstract:The sugar utilization efficiency and the tolerance of microorganism to inhibitors are essential for lipid production from lignocellulosic biomass. In this study, the sugar consumption and inhibitor tolerance characteristics of Trichosporon dermatis 32,903 were investigated. The results showed that the lipid yield on xylose was much lower than that on glucose, while these substrates exhibited comparative efficiency for cell growth. High inoculum size improved the tolerance of T. dermatis 32,903 to inhibitors. Based on these characteristics, sugar-targeted-utilization and cyclic fermentation strategy was developed. The tolerance of high inoculum size to inhibitors was utilized, glucose was targeted for lipid fermentation and xylose was targeted for cell growth. As a result, the lipid production efficiency was greatly enhanced. The lipid titer in hydrolysate of DLCA (Densifying Lignocellulosic biomass with Chemicals followed by Autoclave) pretreated rice straw was improved to as high as 38.4 g/L with lipid yield of 0.207 g/g consumed sugar.

Abstract:As a potential alternative to fossil-based fuels, cellulosic ethanol has attracted much attention due to its great benefit to energy sustainability and environmental friendliness. However, at present, the industrial competitiveness of cellulosic ethanol production is still insufficient compared with fossil-based fuels because of the higher costs. Expanding the range of lignocellulosic biomass may be a promising measure to promote the economical production of cellulosic ethanol. Corn fiber, a byproduct from the corn deep-processing, is an attractive feedstock for cellulosic ethanol production because of its rich carbohydrate content (generally exceeding 65% of dry weight), almost no transportation cost, and low lignin content allow it to be easily handled. This study first optimized the hydrolysis conditions, including the pretreatment and enzymolysis process based on dilute sulfuric acid, to achieve a high sugar yield. Then, the corn fiber hydrolysates obtained under different hydrolysis conditions were suitably fermented by different C5/C6 co-fermentation Saccharomyces cerevisiae, indicating that the hydrolysate at high solid loading (20%) needs to detoxification to a certain extent but not low solid loading (10%) to achieve high ethanol yield. Finally, the fermentation of the 20% solid loading hydrolysates with resin detoxification was performed in a 50 L bioreactor, achieving the sugar (glucose and xylose) metabolic rate of 2.24 g L −1 h −1 and ethanol yield of 92% of the theoretical value, which are the highest reported levels to date. This study provided a potential process route for cellulosic ethanol production from corn fiber from the perspective of the suitability between the upstream hydrolysis process and the downstream fermentation strain.

Economical production of isomaltulose from agricultural residues in a system with sucrose isomerase displayed on Bacillus subtilis spores

Abstract:A safe, efficient, environmentally friendly process for producing isomaltulose is needed. Here, the biocatalyst, sucrose isomerase (SIase) from Erwinia rhapontici NX-5, displayed on the surface of Bacillus subtilis 168 spores (food-grade strain) was applied for isomaltulose production. The anchored SIase showed relatively high bioactivity, suggesting that the surface display system using CotX as the anchoring protein was successful. The stability of the anchored SIase was also significantly better. Thermal stability analysis showed that 80% of relative activity was retained after incubation at 40 °C and 45 °C for 60 min. To develop an economical industrial fermentation medium, untreated beet molasses (30 g/L) and cold-pressed soybean powder (50 g/L) were utilised as the main broth components for SIase pilot-scale production. Under the optimal conditions, the productive spores converted 92% of sucrose after 6 h and the conversion rate was 45% after six cycles. Isomaltulose production with this system using the agricultural residues, untreated beet molasses and soybean powder, as substrates is cost-effective and environmentally friendly and can help to overcome issues due to the genetic background.
One-step solid-state fermentation for efficient erythritol production from the simultaneous saccharified crop wastes by incorporating immobilized cellulase

Abstract:Crop wastes are advantaged feedstocks for low-cost erythritol production via Yarrowia procedure, whereas a high amount of cellulose remains in the fermentative medium due to the lack of cellulase. The present study proposed a one-step solid-state fermentation (SSF) for erythritol production from oil crop waste that was simultaneous saccharified by the incorporated exogenous cellulase. Cellulase was immobilized in alginate-chitosan beads, and the outstanding performance of the immobilized cellulase in erythritol cultivation was proven based on its tolerance to pH and osmotic pressure, with high stability and reusability (83% of activity maintained after five cycles of utilization). Under the optimal condition of pH 6.0 and 0.01 g/g dry substrate with the immobilized cellulase addition of 1.5% (w/w), persistent cellulase activity accompanied by the efficient consumption of total sugar was detected during the cultivation. Enhanced erythritol production was achieved with the highest titer of 226.8 mg/g dry substrate in scale-up batch fermentation, when the fed-batch cultivation contributed to a considerable total amount of erythritol. Cost analysis suggests that the present process leads toward the development of eco-friendly and economically feasible erythritol production.

Abstract:Bioconversion of acetate, a byproduct generated in industrial processes, into microbial lipids using oleaginous yeasts offers a promising alternative for the economic utilization of acetate-containing waste streams. However, high acetate concentrations will inhibit microbial growth and metabolism. In this study, the acetate utilization capability of Yarrowia lipolytica PO1f was successively improved by overexpressing the key enzyme of acetyl-CoA synthetase (ACS), which resulted in an accumulation of 9.2% microbial lipids from acetate in shake flask fermentation. By further overexpressing the second key enzymes of acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC1) and fatty acid synthase (FAS) in Y. lipolytica, the lipid content was increased to 25.7% from acetate. Finally, the maximum OD600 of 29.2 and a lipid content of 41.7% were obtained with the engineered strain by the adoption of cosubstrate (glycerol and acetate) fed-batch fermentation, which corresponded to an increase of 68 and 95%, respectively. Abstract:Background: Yarrowia lipolytica, one of the most charming chassis cells in synthetic biology, is unable to use xylose and cellodextrins. Results: Herein, we present work to tackle for the first time the engineering of Y. lipolytica to produce lipids from cellodextrins and xylose by employing rational and combinatorial strategies. This includes constructing a cellodextrin-phosphorolytic Y. lipolytica by overexpressing Neurospora crassa cellodextrin transporter, Clostridium thermocellum cellobiose/cellodextrin phosphorylase and Saccharomyces cerevisiae phosphoglucomutase. The effect of glucose repression on xylose consumption was relieved by installing a xylose uptake facilitator combined with enhanced PPP pathway and increased cytoplasmic NADPH supply. Further enhancing lipid production and interrupting its consumption conferred the obese phenotype to the engineered yeast. The strain is able to co-ferment glucose, xylose and cellodextrins efficiently, achieving a similar μmax of 0.19 h-1, a qs of 0.34 g-s/g-DCW/h and a YX/S of 0.54 DCW-g/g-s on these substrates, and an accumulation of up to 40% of lipids on the sugar mixture and on wheat straw hydrolysate. Conclusions: Therefore, engineering Y. lipolytica capable of assimilating xylose and cellodextrins is a vital step towards a simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) process of LC biomass, allowing improved substrate conversion rate and reduced production cost due to low demand of external glucosidase.

Abstract:Abstract Background Commercial xylose purification produces xylose mother liquor (XML) as a major byproduct, which has become an inexpensive and abundant carbon source. A portion of this XML has been used to produce low-value-added products such as caramel but the remainder often ends up as an organic pollutant. This has become an issue of industrial concern. In this study, a uracil-deficient Candida tropicalis strain was engineered to efficiently convert XML to the commercially useful product xylitol. Results The xylitol dehydrogenase gene was deleted to block the conversion of xylitol to xylulose. Then, an NADPH regeneration system was added through heterologous expression of the Yarrowia lipolytica genes encoding 6-phosphate-gluconic acid dehydrogenase and 6-phosphate-glucose dehydrogenase. After process optimization, the engineered strain, C. tropicalis XZX-B4ZG, produced 97.10 g L − 1 xylitol in 120 h from 300 g L − 1 XML in a 5-L fermenter. The xylitol production rate was 0.82 g L − 1 h − 1 and the conversion rate was 92.40 %. Conclusions In conclusion, this study performed a combination of metabolic engineering and process optimizing in C. tropicalis to enhance xylitol production from XML. The use of C. tropicalis XZX-B4ZG, therefore, provided a convenient method to transform the industrial by-product XML into the useful material xylitol.

Enabling xylose utilization in Yarrowia lipolytica for lipid production

Abstract:The conversion of lignocellulosic sugars, in particular xylose, is important for sustainable fuels and chemicals production. While the oleaginous yeast Yarrowia lipolytica is a strong candidate for lipid production, it is currently unable to effectively utilize xylose. By introducing a heterologous oxidoreductase pathway and enabling starvation adaptation, we obtained a Y. lipolytica strain, E26 XUS, that can use xylose as a sole carbon source and produce over 15 g/L of lipid in bioreactor fermentations (29.3% of theoretical yield) with a maximal lipid productivity of 0.19 g/L/h. Genomic sequencing and genetic analysis pointed toward increases in genomic copy number of the pathway and resulting elevated expression levels as the causative mutations underlying this improved phenotype. More broadly, many regions of the genome were duplicated during starvation of Yarrowia. This strain can form the basis for further engineering to enhance xylose catabolic rates and conversion. Finally, this study also reveals the flexibility and dynamic nature of the Y. lipolytica genome, and the means at which starvation can be used to induce genomic duplications.

Abstract:Soybean molasses, which contains high levels of raffinose family oligosaccharides (RFOs) such as stachyose and raffinose, is subjected to a process of bio-purification to remove sucrose while maintaining the RFOs, consequently increasing its value. This study employed morphological observation, physiological and biochemical studies, and molecular biology techniques to identify YA176, a yeast strain renowned for its effective bio-purification of soy molasses. Through single-factor and orthogonal experiments, optimal bio-purification conditions were established. YA176, belonging to Wickerhamomyces anomalus , demonstrated robust growth across a wide range of temperature and pH levels, coupled with remarkable tolerance to glucose, sucrose, and NaCl up to 41.2%, 47.3%, and 10%, respectively. Under these optimized conditions, YA176 efficiently utilized sucrose while preserving 93.3% of raffinose and 78.6% of stachyose, ensuring the retention of functional RFOs. In summary, yeast strain YA176 exhibits exceptional bio-purification abilities, making it an ideal candidate for producing functional RFOs from soy molasses.

Abstract:High-density culture for microbial lipid preparation from low-cost lignocellulosic feedstocks is crucial for commercial-scale biodiesel production. Herein, fed-batch saccharification of alkaline organosolv pretreatment (AOP) of corn stover at an extremely high solids content of 47% (w/v) released 299.5 g/L of lignocellulosic sugars including 18.3% of soluble oligosaccharides. Three types of liquid hydrolysates for seed culture, fermentation, and feeding during fed-batch culture were obtained from the hydrolysate slurry using a two-step washing strategy with 99.3% of sugars recovery. Cutaneotrichosporon oleaginosum showed excellent capacity for assimilating both monosaccharides and oligosaccharides for lipid production using the fed-batch culture mode. Lipid concentration, content, and yield gained 42.3 g/L, 64.6%, and 20.4 g/100 g, respectively. Turbid hydrolysate collected with high recovery of high-concentration sugars and simplified process could be directly served as feeding medium. In general, the overall hydrolysis yield and lipid yield using fed-batch mode accounted for 93.2% and 97.6% of those using batch mode, respectively, resulting in a lipid output of 102.8 g/kg raw corn stover. The fatty acid composition and the prediction of biodiesel properties of lipid samples indicated the suitability for high-quality fuel production. This study provided valuable information for designing highly efficient lignocelluloses-to-biodiesel routes.
