Abstract:Objective To understand the status and influencing factors of anti-tumor drug occupational protection behaviors among nurses,so as to provide references for making protective systems,promoting the nurses' sense of occupational protection and regulating their behaviors.Methods A total of 163 nurses from a tumor hospital were recruited and investigated by a self-designed questionnaire.Results The scores of nurses'occupational protection knowledge and behavior were(36.12 ± 7.71) and(56.01 ± 9.45),respectively.The protective behavior score was influenced by educational background,interests to protective knowledge,training frequencies and the protective knowledge score.The influence of protective knowledge on behavior increased by 5.3% after controlling the general information.Conclusion Nurses in tumor hospital are suffering from bad occupational behaviors.Nursing managers should promote their protection sense and regulate their behaviors by training and making regulatory regime.

Abstract:Stress is a nonspecific reaction to everything the body needs. Although occupational stress exists in every occupation, it is seen with more frequency and intensity amongst those occupations related to human health. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between occupational stress and social support (SS) among hospital nurses. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 1144 hospital nurse in China. They were investigated with a self-administered questionnaire about socio-demographic characteristics, occupational stress and social support. A validated version of the revised Occupational Stress Inventory (OSI-R) was applied to evaluate occupational stress; SS was measured by nine questions. Logistic regression analysis was used to study the association between occupational stress and SS and adjusted for income, gender, marital status, working years, educational level, and profession. Of 1144 nurses, the majority age group was less than 30 years, and the mean age across participants was 31.8 years. Further correlation analysis indicated that score of ORQ and PSQ had a significant negative correlation with score of SS (P<0.05), and a significant positive correlation was found between Score of PRQ and score of SS (P<0.05). The univariate analysis and multivariate analysis results also revealed that high SS increased significantly with decreasing ORQ score and increasing PRQ score after controlling for income, gender, marital status, working years, educational level and job title. SS significantly influences occupational stress in hospitals nurse. We also should pay more attention to occupational stress of married and long working years nurse.

Abstract:Objective To investigate occupational safety and health behaviors and related factors in nursing students,and to provide bases for intervention measurement.Methods The convenience sampling method was used to sample 979 nursing students from a nursing school.An anonymous knowledge-attitude-practice(KAP) questionnaire survey was conducted.Results The behavior level of occupational safety and health was low.The main influencing factors were students' attitude,awareness,internship time,internship experience of ICU and willingness to study.Conclusion Educators need to employ useful strategies to train these students about occupational safety and health according to the characteristics of nursing students,enhance their perception of the risk factors and help them establish positive attitudes and take protective behaviors.
Intention to leave among newly graduated nurses: A descriptive, multicenter study

Abstract:Aims: To investigate newly graduated Chinese nurses' intention to leave their jobs and to explore the association of intention to leave with nurse characteristics, person-environment fit, and social support. Design: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study. Methods: Newly graduated nurses (N = 1,313) were recruited from 18 hospitals in six provinces in China, during 2018. An online questionnaire explored intention to leave and related factors, including proactive personality, personal-environment fit, and perceived social support. Chi-squared and multilevel logistic regression analysis were used to examine associations between factors. Results: Among 1,313 newly graduated nurses, 88 (6.7%) reported high-level intention to leave. Nurses working in specialty areas (i.e., outside of medical-surgical wards) and those with higher degree of person-organization fit showed lower intention to leave, whereas those with higher level of education, exposure to negative workplace/life events during the previous year and a proactive personality showed higher intention to leave. Conclusion: Among newly graduated Chinese nurses, intention to leave is significant and is influenced by work area, level of education, negative workplace/life events and person-organization fit. The intention to leave is dynamically multifactorial and supportive strategies must be similarly multifaceted to effectively reduce turnover. Impact: Little is known about the factors influencing the intention to leave among newly graduated nurses. We found significant intention to leave among new nurses which was negatively associated with work in a specialty area and degree of person-organization fit and positively associated with level of education, exposure to negative workplace/life events and proactive personality. This information adds to our understanding of nurse turnover and will support nurse administrators in the introduction of specific strategies to decrease turnover in this population.
Analysis of influencing factors of risk perception among emergency nurses in China: An observational study

Abstract:To understand the current saturation of emergency nurses' risk perception and its influencing factors, and to explore the correlation between emergency nurses' risk perception and nurse's safety behavior. This study is a cross-sectional study. From January 2024 to February 2024 using the questionnaire star online survey method. The convenience sampling method was used to survey nurses in the emergency departments of 5 hospitals in China. Male and female emergency nurses (n = 189) from China were included in the final sample. Nursing risk perception questionnaire and nurses safety behavior scale were used for evaluation. The collected data were comprehensively analyzed using various statistical methods, including descriptive analysis, 2 independent samples t-test mean comparison, 1-way analysis of variance for differences, multiple linear regression analysis to identify influencing factors, and Pearson correlation analyze correlations. All analyses were performed using SPSS version 26.0, and P < .05 was considered statistically significant (2-sided). The emergency nurses score was (87.08 ± 20.18) on the risk perception scale, scoring rate 62.2%. The results of multiple regression showed that age, marital status, education level, professional title, monthly income level, and safety behaviors were the main factors influencing the risk perception of emergency nurses (P < .05). The results of correlation analysis showed a positive correlation between the dimensions of nurses' risk perception and safety behaviors (R = 0.636, P < .01). Age, marriage, education level, years of work experience, professional title, duties. engagement type, monthly income level, participation in teaching work, safety training, and no adverse events were the influencing factors of risk perception. The research results emphasize that risk perception of emergency nurses has a positive prediction effect on safe behavior. It is suggested that nursing managers should optimize nursing workflow and human resource allocation, strategically add occupational risk training to vocational training, and strengthen nurses' safety behaviors.

Abstract:Background: Patient safety is a key priority for healthcare systems, which is not only about the safety and quality development of health care but also about the safety of patients' lives. However, there has been little research exploring the relationship between new nurses' willingness to leave, patient safety culture, and professional identity. This study was to explore patient safety for new nurses, examine the relationship between professional identity, patient safety culture, and turnover intentions of newly recruited nurses in China, and validate the mediating role of patient safety culture. Methods: From August 2019 to September 2021, we collected data from newly recruited nurses in 5 large tertiary public hospitals in Anhui Province, China using a questionnaire survey. Descriptive analysis, a univariate analysis, Pearson correlation analysis, and mediated regression analysis were used to estimate the current status of patient safety attitudes and the effect of safety culture on career identity and turnover intentions among newly recruited nurses. Results: The turnover intention of 816 newly recruited nurses was 14.16 ± 3.14%. Patient safety culture was positively associated with career identity ( r = 0.516, P < 0.01) and negatively associated with turnover intentions ( r = −0.437, P < 0.01), while patient safety was also a partial mediator between career identity and turnover intentions. Conclusions: The results showed that the low patient safety attitudes of new nurses in China should not be ignored. The impact of professional identity on patient safety has important practical implications for promoting a culture of safety among new nurses and reducing turnover rates.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the knowledge,attitude and practice related to occupational protection in low qualification nursing students,and to provide them occupational protection education.Methods A total of 99 low qualification nursing students in Ningbo College of Health Sciences were surveyed by self-designed knowledge,attitude and practice questionnaire in April 2012.Results The scores of knowledge,attitude and practice were 11.62±1.72(77.5%),135.58±9.60(90.4%),and 137.40±15.20(76.3%),respectively.Conclusion The low qualification nursing students are lack of adequate knowledge of occupational protection,with positive attitude but poor behavior compliance.It is essential to educate them to reduce the occupational exposure and ensure the smooth progress of the internship.

Abstract:Aim To explore the associated factors of patient privacy protection behaviours among nursing interns. Background The patient privacy protection behaviours of nursing interns are closely related to information security incidents and the quality of clinical practice. However, little is known about the associated factors of patient privacy protection behaviours among nursing interns. Design A cross-sectional study. Setting A comprehensive hospital in Hunan Province, China. Participants Nursing interns in a comprehensive hospital from 30 different nursing schools were recruited using convenience sampling. Methods Data on general information, patient privacy protection cognition, moral sensitivity, empathy and patient privacy protection behaviours were collected with a general information questionnaire and corresponding scales with good psychometric properties. U-test, spearman correlation analysis and multiple linear regression were used to determine the associated factors of patient privacy protection behaviours among nursing interns. Results This study showed that nursing interns in a college program had better patient privacy protection behaviours than those nursing interns in a baccalaureate program. Nursing interns who have more knowledge of privacy laws and whose clinical nursing teachers excelled in patient privacy protection might show better patient privacy protection behaviours. Nursing interns with better patient privacy protection cognition, higher moral sensitivity and greater empathy might have better patient privacy protection behaviours. Conclusion Strengthening nursing interns' knowledge of privacy laws and patient privacy protection cognition, improving their moral sensitivity and empathy and standardizing the patient privacy protection behaviours of clinical nursing teachers may can improve the patient privacy protection behaviours of nursing interns. Also, clinical teachers should pay close attention to nursing interns in baccalaureate programs who are likely to have a lower level of patient privacy protection behaviours and act as role models for them in protecting patient privacy in clinical nursing education.

Factors influencing the job embeddedness of new graduate nurses: A multicentre cross-sectional study

Abstract:Aim: To identify factors associated with job embeddedness from the perspective of retaining new graduate nurses. Design: The study was cross-sectional in design. Methods: Convenience and stratified sampling were used to recruit 415 newly graduated nurses from 12 tertiary hospitals in China. Anonymized data were collected through self-designed sociodemographic questionnaires, job embeddedness scale, feedback-seeking behaviour scale, authentic leadership perception scale and decent work scale. Appropriate indicators were used for descriptive statistics and t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis and multiple linear regression to examine the influencing factors. Results: The study showed that monthly income level, decent labour, authentic leadership and feedback-seeking behaviour were significant predictors of job embeddedness among new graduate nurses. Conclusion: The job embeddedness of new graduate nurses is moderate. Nursing managers need to construct reasonable and fair compensation incentives, adopt positive leadership styles and encourage proactive feedback-seeking behaviours to improve the job embeddedness of new graduate nurses and alleviate the nursing talent shortage. Impact: Exploring the factors influencing the job embeddedness of new graduate nurses provides a reference for establishing new graduate nurse retention strategies to help promote the career development of new graduate nurses and alleviate the nursing brain drain. Abstract:Aim Examine profiles of safety attitudes among novices and explore whether profiles moderate the occupational identity–turnover pathway. Background Novice nurses face unique challenges in adopting positive safety attitudes, which influence outcomes like turnover. However, past research found only average levels of safety attitudes among novices, ignoring possible heterogeneity. Exploring whether meaningful subgroups exist based on safety perspectives and factors shaping them can provide insights to improve safety attitudes and retention. Design This study was designed as a cross‐sectional investigation. Methods Data were collected through the distribution of questionnaires. Descriptive statistics were first conducted, followed by latent profile analysis. We then carried out univariate analysis and ordinal multinomial regression to explore the factors shaping the different profiles. Finally, we examine the moderating effect of nurses' safety attitudes with different latent profiles on the relationship between professional identification and turnover intention. Results A total of 816 novice nurses were included. Three profiles were identified: high, moderate and low safety attitudes – higher attitudes were associated with lower turnover intention. Interest in nursing, health status, identity and turnover predicted profile membership. Moderate profile had a stronger buffering effect on the identity–turnover link versus high profile. Conclusion Multiple safety attitude profiles exist among novice nurses. Certain factors like interest in nursing and occupational identity are associated with more positive safety profiles. Targeting these factors could potentially improve safety attitudes and reduce turnover among novice nurses. The moderating effects suggest that tailored interventions matching specific subgroups may maximize impact. Impact Assessing subgroup attitudes enables tailored training for novices' specific needs, nurturing continuous improvement. Supporting early career development and role identity may strengthen retention intentions.

Abstract:<section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Background</h3><p>Burnout affects the quality of work and health of newly graduated nurses, increases the turnover rate among newly graduated nurses and leads to a shortage of nurses. Reducing job burnout among newly graduated nurses is critical. However, the factors that impact burnout among newly graduated nurses are currently not well known.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Objective</h3><p>This exploratory study aims to identify the factors that influence burnout among newly graduated nurses in China.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Methods</h3><p>We conducted a cross‐sectional study of newly graduated nurses from 15 cities in 13 provinces in China. We used online questionnaires to conduct the survey and obtain the results in this study. A STROBE checklist was used to report the results.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Results</h3><p>Of the 2400 questionnaires distributed, 2071 (86.29%) were returned. Job satisfaction, professional rank, hospital level, professional values, and core competence were negatively correlated with burnout, while negative emotions were positively correlated with burnout. Women were more prone to burnout than men.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Conclusions</h3><p>Burnout among newly graduated nurses was divided into three dimensions based on the Maslach Burnout Inventory Scale. Our findings provided new evidence that newly graduated nurses had average levels of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization and low levels of personal accomplishment. Job satisfaction, professional rank, hospital level, gender, professional values, negative emotions, and core competence were predictors of job burnout among NGNs in China.</p></section><section class="article-section__content"><h3 class="article-section__sub-title section1"> Relevance to clinical practice</h3><p>Nursing managers should pay attention to burnout management, standardize training about professional values, core competence, and coping mechanisms, and promote mental health and job satisfaction among newly graduated nurses.</p></section>

Abstract:Objective To explore the correlation of knowledge, attitude and behavior on occupational protection of nurses. Methods 679 nurses who worked in the Women's and Children's Hospitals were included in the study. Their knowledge, attitude and behavior of occupational protection were investigated. The study protocol was approved by the Ethical Review Board of Investigation in Human Being of West China Second University Hospital. Informed consent was obtained from each nurses. Results In domain of basic concepts of occupational protection, the attitude was positively correlated with behavior (r= 0.028, P=0.000) . In domain of protection of nursing behavior, the attitude also was positively correlated with behavior (r=0.173, P=0.000) ,and the knowledge had positive correlation with attitude in domain of cytotoxic medicine protection (r=0.182, P=0.005) . Conclusions Since a positive correlation was found between attitude and behavior of nurses on occupational protection, it is useful to improve compliance by changing their attitude toward occupational protection. Abstract:Objective To investigate the knowledge of occupational protection among nursing students before clinical practice. Methods Totally 333 nursing students were investigated with a self-designed questionnaire about the knowledge of occupational protection before clinical practice. Results The score of occupational protection knowledge of associate nursing students was significantly lower than that of undergraduate nursing students(P<0.01). Compared with undergraduate nursing students,the awareness rates of occupational protection measures,hand washing principles,indications of hand washing,use of gloves,prevention of needlestick injuries,emergent response to sharp injuries and reporting procedure were significantly lower in associate nursing students(P<0.01). Conclusion Schools and teaching hospitals should pay close attention to nursing students' occupational protection education,and take active measures to build a safe professional environment.
Influencing Factors of Professional Identity, Health Behavior and their Correlation with Job Burnout in Nursing Staffs in Pension Institution

Abstract:Objectives: In this study, we investigated factors impacting nurses' professional identity in elderly care institutions and their connection to occupational burnout. Methods: Using convenience sampling, 394 nurses from local elderly care facilities were surveyed from May 2022 to May 2023. The Elderly Nurses' Professional Identity Scale, Occupational Burnout Scale, and Health Behavior Scale were employed. Single-factor and multiple-factor logistic regression analyses identified risk factors influencing professional identity. Results: Results revealed a negative correlation (r = -0.392, p < .05) between professional identity and occupational burnout. We found statistically significant differences with respect to age, education, income, working hours, number of elderly cared for, family support, and professional qualification (p 10 hours, caring for >10 elderly individuals, and lack of family support were independent risk factors (OR = 0.608, 2.494, 0.555, 0.630, 2.638, p < 0.05) influencing professional identity. Additionally, nurses' health behavior was linked to occupational burnout. Conclusion: Nurses in elderly care institutions face low professional identity, which negatively correlates with occupational burnout. Factors such as advanced age, low income, high workload, and insufficient family support contribute to this. Moreover, nurses' health behavior significantly affects their burnout levels.

Abstract:Background: Professional quality of life affects nurses' well-being and the quality of care. However, little attention is paid to the relationships among professional quality of life dimensions, burnout, nursing practice environment, and intention to leave this job in newly graduated nurses. Aims: To assess the levels of professional quality of life dimensions and turnover intention, to examine the predictors for turnover intention, and to explore the mediating roles of professional quality of life dimensions on the associations between these predictors and turnover intention in Chinese newly graduated nurses. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study with 315 newly graduated nurses selected from five tertiary hospitals and five secondary hospitals in Sichuan province, China. Multiple regression analysis was used to examine the effects of demographic characteristics and work-related factors on intention to leave this job. Structural equation modeling technique was performed to explore the mediating effect of each domain of professional quality of life on the relationships between the predictors and turnover intention. Results: The prevalence of average levels of burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and compassion satisfaction was 43.2%, 57.1%, and 81.3%, respectively. Moreover, 43.8% and 0.6% of the participants reported high and exceptionally high intention to leave this job. Nursing practice environment, social support, and empathy indirectly and significantly affected turnover intention via the mediating roles of burnout and compassion satisfaction, respectively. However, no significant mediating effect of secondary traumatic stress was found between these predictors and turnover intention. Linking evidence to action: Perceptions of greater nursing practice environment, social support, and empathy result in lower turnover intention via reducing burnout and facilitating compassion satisfaction. Strategies such as developing a supportive work and family environment, and cultivating empathic capacity can be effective methods to mitigate against intention to leave this job in newly graduated nurses.

Abstract:Introduction Nurses have a high prevalence of occupational low back pain, especially since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has increased the nurses' workloads. It has brought a huge burden on nurses and their professional development. Nurses' occupational low back pain prevention capacity is the logical starting point and core of interventions to prevent its occurrence. To date, there is no study investigating it with a scientific scale. Therefore, a multicenter cross-sectional study was conducted to explore the current status of nurses' capacity in occupational low back pain prevention and its influencing factors in China. Methods Using a two-stage, purposive and convenience mixed sampling method, 1331 nurses from 8 hospitals across 5 provinces (Hubei, Zhejiang, Shandong, Henan, and Sichuan) in the southern, western, northern, and central areas of mainland China were involved in this study. The demographic questionnaire and occupational low back pain prevention behavior questionnaire were used for data collection. The descriptive analysis, univariate analysis, and multiple stepwise linear regression were used for data analysis. Results The results showed that the occupational low back pain prevention behavior questionnaire score was 89.00 (80.00, 103.00) [M (Q1, Q3)], which indicated that nurses' ability was at a moderate level. Participation in prevention training before, perceived stress at work, and working hours per week were predictors for nurses' occupational low back pain prevention capacity. Discussion To improve nurses' prevention ability, nursing managers should organize various training programs, strengthen regulations to reduce nurses' workload and stress, provide a healthy workplace, and offer incentives to motivate nurses.

The Mediating Role of Organizational Commitment Between Workplace Bullying and Turnover Intention Among Clinical Nurses in China: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract:Abstract Background: As a major occupational stressor, workplace bullying has become a hot issue in occupational and health psychology research. Previous studies have shown that workplace bullying has a significant impact on turnover intentions, but few studies to date have addressed this topic among nurses. This study aimed to determine the mediating role of organizational commitment in the relationship between workplace bullying and turnover intention among clinical nurses in China. Methods: Participants were recruited from hospitals in China from December 2, 2021 to February 25, 2023, using convenience sampling. Clinical nurses (n = 585) from different nursing departments completed the Socio-demographic Questionnaire, Negative Acts Qestionnaire, Chinese Workers’ Organizational Commitment Scale and Turnover Intention Questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analyses and structural equation model were adopted to analyze the data. Results: Results revealed that workplace bullying was significantly negatively correlated with organizational commitment (r=−0.512, P＜0.01) and significantly positively correlated with turnover intention (r=0.558, P＜0.01) , organizational commitment was significantly negatively correlated with turnover intention (r=−0.539, P＜0.01). Workplace bullying could negatively predict organizational commitment (β = −0.641, P < 0.001) and positively predict turnover intention (β =−0.437, P＜0.001), organizational commitment could negatively predict turnover intention (β=−0.437, P＜0.01）. Mediation analysis indicated organizational commitment partially mediated the association between workplace bullying and turnover intention, with the mediating effect accounting for 38.36% of the total effect. Conclusion: Nurses experienced high levels of workplace bullying and it is critical to predicting their turnover intention. Organizational commitment plays an intervening mechanism explaining how workplace bullying promotes turnover intention among nurses. Managers should focus on reducing the incidence of workplace bullying and increasing the level of organizational commitment of nurses in order to reduce their turnover intention and stabilize the nursing workforce.
Study on training of standard prevention and protective isolation measure for the first year nurse

Abstract:Objective To study the mastering of knowledge and skills of standard prevention and fulfilment of protective isolation measure by the first year nurses during their rotation period.Methods With Self-designed questionnaire,!we statistically analyzed 3 times tests before(conce) and after training of new nurses about the mastering of knowledge and skills of standard prevention,occupational protection skills during different rotation periods and the fulfilment of protective isolation measures for susceptible in-patients.Results There was a significant difference on the whole awareness for new nurses before and after training(χ2 test,P<0.01).But there was also no statistic significance three months after training.There was also no statistic significance(χ2 test,P>0.05) among new nurses who have mastered standard prevention skills after six months.There was significant difference on implementation rate of the protective isolation measure after one year(χ2 test,P<0.01).Conclusion The study shows that the special practice training of new nurses twice in the first three months is feasible.The training and examination of the new nurses have trained their two-way protection ability and integrated it conciously into nursing procedures.However protection awareness and formation of behavior habit should be reinforced in clinical nursing practice.
