Abstract:The consensus problem is investigated for a class of multi-agent systems with nonlinear dynamics on a fixed directed information network, where each agent is assumed to share information only with its neighbors on some disconnected time intervals. A novel adaptive intermittent control protocol is first introduced, where only intermittent relative local information is used. Based on the Lyapunov stability theory combined with the method of the adaptive control and intermittent control, some novel and simple consensus criteria are derived under a fixed strongly connected topology, it is proved that consensus can be reached if the measure of communication is larger than a threshold value. The results are then extended to consensus with a virtual leader where the underlying topology is not necessarily strong connected or contains a directed spanning tree. Finally, two numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the obtained theoretical results.

Abstract:An event-based consensus filtering control scheme for multi-agents with multiple mixing delays is proposed in the paper. Firstly, a piece-wise sampling model with transmission delay defined from sensors to controllers is built, and the effect of time-varying delay on sampling is analyzed. Secondly, a self-triggered scheme is proposed to take into consideration of reducing redundant data and complexity. Thirdly, to fully utilize the available information, by employing an improved generalized free-weighting matrix inequality, a novel Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional approach is proposed to achieve global asymptotically synchronization. At last, an example of multiple unmanned aerial vehicles is offered to show the effectiveness of proposed method.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the consensus of multiagent systems with nonlinear dynamics through the use of aperiodic sampled-data controllers, which are more flexible than classical periodic sampled-data controllers. By input delay approach, the resulting sampled-data system is reformulated as a continuous system with time-varying delay in the control input. A continuous Lyapunov functional, which captures the information on sampling pattern, together with the free-weighting matrix method, is then used to establish a sufficient condition for consensusability. For a more general case that the sampled-data controllers are subject to constant input delays, a novel discontinuous Lyapunov functional is introduced on the basis of the vector extension of Wirtinger's inequality. This functional can lead to simplified and efficient stability conditions for computation and optimization. Further results on the estimate of maximal allowable sampling interval upper bound is given as well. Numerical example is provided to show the effectiveness and merits of the proposed protocol.

Abstract:This paper studies the coordination control of nonlinear multi-agent systems under asynchronous switching, including consensus, tracking control, and containment. The asynchronous switching considered here means that the switching of the controller lags behind the mode’s switching for each agent. So the matched controller is interrupted by the delayed switching. For the situation, the authors give some new results by applying the conventional distributed control protocol. The authors show that all agents can achieve consensus. Secondly, the authors show that all followers can track the actual leader. Thirdly, the authors show that all followers will converge to the convex hull spanned by the dynamic leaders as time goes on. Numerical simulations are also provided and the results show highly consistent with the theoretical results.

Abstract:This article investigates the consensus issue of nonlinear multi-agent systems (MASs) by utilizing the delayed non-fragile sampled-data control mechanism. First of all, in consideration of the aperiodic sampling and the transmission time, a novel type extended looped-functional is constructed. In the extended looped-functional, some integral state vectors are firstly utilized to achieve the goal of enlarging the sampling interval upper bound. And, to guarantee the flexibility of the controller, the sampling fluctuation is taken into account in the design procedure. Then, on the basis of the free-matrix-based inequalities (FMBIs), several sufficient consensus criteria with less conservativeness are obtained, which are presented as linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Eventually, an example of unmanned aerial vehicles is exhibited to prove the validity and advantages of the proposed consensus criteria.

Abstract:In this article, the consensus problem of nonlinear multiagent systems (MASs) with time-varying communication delays (TVCDs) is addressed by proposing a novel nonfragile memory-based sampled-data control approach. Different from the existing sampled-data control schemes, an improved memory-based proportional derivative like a sampled-data control scheme based on the information of neighbors is proposed. Besides, considering the inaccuracy and perturbation of controller, a nonfragile control method is also adopted to design the controller. Then, instead of the general quadratic type of the Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional, a delay-product-type quadratic is presented by taking full advantage of the information of TVCDs, and the positive definite constraint in the entire time domain is weakened to the sampled instants on account of adopting the two-sided looped-functional approach. Furthermore, less-conservative consensus criteria for MASs are developed. By solving linear matrix inequalities, the desired control gain matrices and larger sampled-data periods are achieved. Finally, illustrative examples are employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the designed control strategy.

Abstract:In this paper, we address the consensus tracking problem for the multiagent system (MAS) based on a nonfragile memory sampled-data controller. Considering the effect of controller gain fluctuation and communication delay, a novel sampled-data control scheme with variable sampling interval is designed for each agent. By developing some new terms, an improved piecewise Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF) is constructed to take full advantage of characteristic about real sampling pattern. Furthermore, some relaxed matrices constructed in the LKF are not necessarily positive definite. Making full use of the LKF and free-matrix-based integral inequality, some sufficient criteria are developed to ensure the consistency of the MAS. Then, by solving a group of linear matrix inequalities with the maximal sampling interval, the desired sampled-data control gain matrix is obtained. Finally, the numerical example of a 5-agent system is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in this paper.

Abstract:This article is concerned with the event-triggered output consensus problem for heterogeneous multiagent systems (MASs) with nonuniform communication delays. Unlike the existing event-triggered consensus results, more general heterogeneous linear MASs and nonuniform communication delays are considered. To reduce communication among subsystems, novel dynamic periodic event-triggered mechanisms are proposed. By using the event-triggered signals at the previous sampling instant, new distributed observers are designed to eliminate asynchronous behavior caused by nonuniform communication delays. Based on the developed observers, the observer error system is converted into a time-delay system with interval time-varying delays. Besides, a controller is designed by using the states of observers. It is shown that the consensus problem can be solved by the proposed method. Finally, an illustrative example is provided to verify the effectiveness of the developed method.

Abstract:This paper studies the non-fragile consensus problem of nonlinear multi-agent systems (MASs) with state and input time-varying delays. The main purpose of this paper is to provide new approaches for the non-fragile consensus research of MASs with time-varying delay. To achieve this goal, a quadratic polynomial Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional is constructed and the generalised free-matrix-based integral inequality is employed. In addition, the quadratic function negative-determination method is applied to the consensus analysis of MASs with controller gain fluctuation. Finally, two novel consensus criteria are established. A simulation example is given to examine the effectiveness and superiority of the obtained criteria.

Abstract:This paper investigates the finite-time consensus problem of uncertain nonlinear multi-agent systems with asymmetric time-varying delays and directed communication topology. An auxiliary system is firstly designed to deal with the continuous or discontinuous time-varying communication delays. Based on the finite-time input-to-output framework, a novel consensus scheme relying on local delayed information exchange is proposed. Moreover, by utilizing an auxiliary integrated regressor matrix and vector method, the system uncertainties can be accurately estimated. Then the consensus of multi-agent systems can be achieved within finite time by selecting the control gains simply. Finally, numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithms.

Abstract:In this paper, the sampled-data consensus problem of nonlinear multiagent systems (MASs) with time-varying delays is investigated. Compared with the widely used sampled-data controller, a proportional integral type (PI-type) protocol utilizing the information of neighbors considering the effects of memory delay is adopted. Then, by adequately considering characteristic about the time-varying delays, an improved time-varying quadratic type of Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF) is developed. Besides, augmented state vectors and two-sided looped-functional approach are adopting to constructed the LKF, some relaxed matrices in the LKF are not necessarily positive definite. Furthermore, some sufficient criteria are derived to ensure the consistency of the MASs. By solving a series of linear matrix inequalities, the desired memory PI-type sampled-data control gain matrices are obtained. Finally, the numerical examples are presented to illustrate the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the simultaneous stability problem of a finite number of locally inter-connected linear subsystems under practical constraints, including asynchronous and aperiodic sampling, time-varying delays, and measurement errors. We establish a new Lyapunov-based stability result for such a decentralized system. This system has a particular simple structure of interconnections, but it captures some key characteristics of a large class of intermediate models derived from the consensus analysis of multi-agent systems. The stability result is applicable to the estimation of the maximum allowable inter-sampling periods and time delays based on individual dynamics and coupling structures in the scenarios of consensus control via asynchronous sampling of relative states and asynchronous broadcasting of self-sampled states respectively. The asynchrony of aperiodic sampling and the existence of measurement errors allow the utilization of some kinds of quantizing devices, such as Logarithmic quantizers, in the process of data sampling, and allow the introduction of a period of dwell time after each update of state measurement to eliminate the Zeno behavior of events in event-based control. The extension in the case with input saturations and input delays is also discussed.

Abstract:This paper provides consensus analysis for networked continuous-time multi-agent systems via sampled control. The sampled control protocol is induced from a continuous-time consensus protocol by using periodic sampling technology and zero-order hold circuit. Meanwhile, time-varying delay that can be both smaller and larger than the sampling interval is taken into account. Based on graph theory and stability theory, a sufficient condition is proposed to guarantee the consensus achievement under the condition that communication channels suffer from time-varying delay. The main contribution of this paper is to provide a valid distributed consensus algorithm that explicitly describes which state information may be received in the concerning sampling interval. The results are illustrated by some simulations.

Abstract:In this paper, the scaled consensus of multiagent systems (MASs) with second-order nonlinear dynamics and time-varying delays is investigated, where agents are supposed to aperiodically communicate with each other under a directed graph at some disconnected time intervals. Different from the existing works, we consider the case where time-varying delays exist in both nonlinear dynamics and communication networks. First, to address this problem, we propose a novel scaled consensus protocol. Second, using Lyapunov theory and graph theory, it is proved that under mild conditions, MASs with second-order nonlinear dynamics exponentially reach scaled consensus. Moreover, we extend our results to the case of leader-following scaled consensus. Finally, the simulation examples are included to verify the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:The authors are concerned with consensus problems in undirected networks of multiple agents with second-order dynamics, where each agent can only obtain the measurements of its positions relative to its neighbours at sampling instants. A new protocol based on sampled-data control is proposed so that all agents can reach consensus on their positions and velocities, respectively. Both fixed and switching topology cases are considered. For the fixed topology case, a sufficient and necessary condition for consensus is derived in the case without time delays, and an allowable upper bound of time delays is obtained in the case with time delays. For the switching topology case, sufficient conditions are established for consensus under arbitrary switching signals and under a class of switching signals, respectively. Simulations are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the consensus control problem for a multiagent system (MAS) consisting of integrator dynamics with input and output time delays. First, we investigate a consensus condition for the MAS with a linear controller and without any delay compensation. We then propose a consensus controller with a state predictor to compensate the effect of time delay. The consensus condition for this controller is derived and investigated. Finally, we present an example of solving the consensus control problem for two-wheel mobile robots with feedback loops that pass through a computer network with time delays. To demonstrate the validity of the predictor-based controller, we conduct experiments with two-wheel mobile robots and present the results.

Abstract:This paper concerns the consensus problem of linear time-invariant multi-agent systems (MASs) with multiple state delays and communicate delays. Consensus control is widely applied in spacecraft formation, sensor networks, robotic manipulators, autonomous vehicles, and others. By introducing a linear transformation, the consensus problem of the delayed MAS under an undirected network was converted into a robust asymptotic stability problem associated with the eigenvalues of the normalized Laplacian matrix of the network. By means of the argument principle and optimization technologies, a numerical controller design method was presented for the delayed MAS to reach consensus. The effectiveness of the proposed approach was illustrated by some numerical examples. The proposed approach may be applied to multi-agent systems with distributed delays.

Abstract:In some practical systems, it often remains difficult to directly measure all state variables. This article investigates the memory output sliding-mode control (SMC) for the finite-time consensus of singularly perturbed multiagent systems (SPMASs). First, the virtual state-feedback sliding surface (SFSS) is constructed to ensure the consensus of all agent states. Then, the unknown output derivatives in SFSS are approximated by a moving finite difference method with error estimation and refinement, which gives rise to a new delay-dependent sliding surface. On this basis, the memory output switching control law is designed to stabilize the consensus errors in finite time, even in the presence of estimation biases, singular perturbations, and input noises. Different from the observer-based SMC, the proposed memory output SMC is of simple static form without introducing extra dynamical structures for state estimation. The effectiveness and superiority of the design method are verified in an SPMAS with double-integrator dynamics.

Abstract:This paper addresses the asynchronous impulsive consensus of discrete-time nonlinear multi-agent systems with time-varying delays. Moreover, leader-following relationship is considered for the presented multi-agent systems, in which cooperation and competition exist simultaneously. By using the linear matrix inequality (LMI) method and the stability theory for delayed discrete-time impulsive systems, a set of sufficient conditions for consensus are obtained to realize asynchronous exponential impulsive consensus with controllers acting at different time sequences for different agents. Mainly formulated by the topology matrices, impulsive intervals, and gain coefficients, these criteria are easily implemented and have lower energy consumption compared with traditional impulsive control methods. Finally, several numerical simulations are shown to display the effectiveness of the derived theoretical results.

Abstract:In this brief, we study the consensus seeking problems for second-order nonlinear multi-agent systems with unavailable velocity measurements. An event-triggered control strategy is developed based on causally sampled position data only, which can reduce the controller update frequencies significantly and avoid continuous communications effectively. Some sufficient conditions for achieving consensus are obtained in light of Lyapunov-Krasovskii stability theory and linear matrix inequality technique.
