Abstract:We generalize the recent results on radial projections by Orponen, Shmerkin, Wang using two different methods. In particular, we show that given $X,Y\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ Borel sets and $X\neq \emptyset$. If $\dim Y \in (k,k+1]$ for some $k\in \{1,\dots, n-1\}$, then \[ \sup_{x\in X} \dim \pi_x(Y\setminus \{x\}) \geq \min \{\dim X + \dim Y - k, k\}. \] Our results give a new approach to solving a conjecture of Lund-Pham-Thu in all dimensions and for all ranges of $\dim Y$. The first of our two methods for proving the above theorem is shorter, utilizing a result of the first author and Gan. Our second method, though longer, follows the original methodology of Orponen--Shmerkin--Wang, and requires a higher dimensional incidence estimate and a dual Furstenberg-set estimate for lines. These new estimates may be of independent interest.

Abstract:Let Vn+1 be an (n + 1)-dimensional real vector space and (F) over tilde = (alpha) over tilde phi(s) s = (beta) over tilde/(alpha) over tilde, be all (alpha, beta)-metric, where (alpha) over tilde is an Euclidean metric and (beta) over tilde is a one form. Minimal surfaces with respect to the Busemann-Hausdorff measure and the Holmes-Thompson measure are called BH-minimal and HT-minimal surfaces, respectively. We give a Bernstein type theorem for minimal graphs in (Vn+1, (F) over tilde) with n <= 7. Let (F) over tilde (b) = (alpha) over tilde phi(s), s = (beta) over tilde/(alpha) over tilde, be a Minkowski metric with b := parallel to(beta) over tilde parallel to(alpha) over tilde. We use a PDE to characterize the BH-minimal and HT-minimal graph over any hyperplane containing the origin in (Vn+1, (F) over tilde (b)). Then we prove that this PDE is an elliptic equation of mean curvature type when b is an element of [0, is an element of) for sonic constant is an element of > 0 and give a Bernstein type theorem for BH-minimal surface in (V-3, (F) over tilde (b)). BH-minimal cones with an isolated singularity at the origin are also given.
A Continuum Erdős-Beck Theorem

Abstract:We prove a version of the Erdős--Beck Theorem from discrete geometry for fractal sets in all dimensions. More precisely, let $X\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ Borel and $k \in [0, n-1]$ be an integer. Let $\dim (X \setminus H) = \dim X$ for every $k$-dimensional hyperplane $H \in \mathcal{A}(n,k)$, and let $\mathcal L(X)$ be the set of lines that contain at least two distinct points of $X$. Then, a recent result of Ren shows $$ \dim \mathcal{L}(X) \geq \min \{2 \dim X, 2k\}. $$ If we instead have that $X$ is not a subset of any $k$-plane, and $$ 0<\inf_{H \in \mathcal{A}(n,k)} \dim (X \setminus H) = t < \dim X, $$ we instead obtain the bound $$ \dim \mathcal{L}(X) \geq \dim X + t. $$ We then strengthen this lower bound by introducing the notion of the "trapping number" of a set, $T(X)$, and obtain \[ \dim \mathcal L(X) \geq \max\{\dim X + t, \min\{2\dim X, 2(T(X)-1)\}\}, \] as consequence of our main result and of Ren's result in $\mathbb{R}^n$. Finally, we introduce a conjectured equality for the dimension of the line set $\mathcal{L}(X)$, which would in particular imply our results if proven to be true.

Abstract:We generalize a Furstenberg-type result of Orponen-Shmerkin to higher dimensions, leading to an $\epsilon$-improvement in Kaufman's projection theorem for hyperplanes and an unconditional discretized radial projection theorem in the spirit of Orponen-Shmerkin-Wang. Our proof relies on a new incidence estimate for $\delta$-tubes and a quasi-product set of $\delta$-balls in $\mathbb{R}^d$.

Abstract:We resolve a conjecture of Fässler and Orponen on the dimension of exceptional projections to one-dimensional subspaces indexed by a space curve in $\mathbb{R}^3$. We do this by obtaining sharp $L^p$ bounds for a variant of the Wolff circular maximal function over fractal sets for a class of $C^2$ curves related to Sogge's cinematic curvature condition. A key new tool is the use of lens cutting techniques from discrete geometry.

On the dimension of exceptional parameters for nonlinear projections, and the discretized Elekes-Rónyai theorem

Abstract:We consider four related problems. (1) Obtaining dimension estimates for the set of exceptional vantage points for the pinned Falconer distance problem. (2) Nonlinear projection theorems, in the spirit of Kaufman, Bourgain, and Shmerkin. (3) The parallelizability of planar $d$-webs. (4) The Elekes-Rónyai theorem on expanding polynomials. Given a Borel set $A$ in the plane, we study the set of exceptional vantage points, for which the pinned distance $\Delta_p(A)$ has small dimension, that is, close to $(\dim A)/2$. We show that if this set has positive dimension, then it must have very special structure. This result follows from a more general single-scale nonlinear projection theorem, which says that if $\phi_1,\phi_2,\phi_3$ are three smooth functions whose associated 3-web has non-vanishing Blaschke curvature, and if $A$ is a $(\delta,\alpha)_2$-set in the sense of Katz and Tao, then at least one of the images $\phi_i(A)$ must have measure much larger than $|A|^{1/2}$, where $|A|$ stands for the measure of $A$. We prove analogous results for $d$ smooth functions $\phi_1,\ldots,\phi_d$, whose associated $d$-web is not parallelizable. We use similar tools to characterize when bivariate real analytic functions are "dimension expanding" when applied to a Cartesian product: if $P$ is a bivariate real analytic function, then $P$ is either locally of the form $h(a(x) + b(y))$, or $P(A,B)$ has dimension at least $\alpha+c$ whenever $A$ and $B$ are Borel sets with Hausdorff dimension $\alpha$. Again, this follows from a single-scale estimate, which is an analogue of the Elekes-Rónyai theorem in the setting of the Katz-Tao discretized ring conjecture.

AHLER-EINSTEIN METRIC REVISITED

Abstract:In this paper we introduce the interpolation-degneration strategy to study Kahler-Einstein metrics on a smooth Fano manifold with cone singularities along a smooth divisor that is proportional to the anti-canonical divisor. By interpolation we show the angles in (0,2�) that admit a conical Kahler-Einstein metric form an interval; and by degeneration we figure out the boundary of the interval. As a first application, we show that there exists a Kahler-Einstein metric on P 2 with cone singularity along a smooth conic (degree 2) curve if and only if the angle is in (�/2,2�). When the an- gle is 2�/3 this proves the existence of a Sasaki-Einstein metric on the link of a three dimensional A2 singularity, and thus answers a problem posed by Gauntlett-Martelli- Sparks-Yau. As a second application we prove a version of Donaldson's conjecture about conical Kahler-Einstein metrics in the toric case using Song-Wang's recent existence result of toric invariant conical Kahler-Einstein metrics.
On a radial projection conjecture in $\mathbb{F}_q^d$

Abstract:A conjecture on radial projections in $\mathbb{F}_q^d$ states that if $E\subset \mathbb{F}_q^n$ with $q^{k-1}< |E|\leq q^{k}$ for some $k \in \{1,\dots, n-1\}$, then \[ \#\{y\in \mathbb{F}_q^n \mid |\pi^y(E)| < |E| \} \leq q^k. \] The case $k=n-1$ was recently proved by the second and third listed authors and Thu (2022). In this paper, we resolve this conjecture in all ranges of $k$.

The Beurling and Malliavin Theorem in Several Dimensions

Abstract:The present paper is devoted to a new multidimensional generalization of the Beurling and Malliavin Theorem, which is a classical result in the Uncertainty Principle in Fourier Analysis. In more detail, we establish by an elegant but simple new method a sufficient condition for a radial function to be a Beurling and Malliavin majorant in several dimensions (this means that the function in question can be minorized by the modulus of a square integrable function which is not zero identically and which has the support of the Fourier transform included in an arbitrary small ball). As a corollary of the radial case, we also get a new sharp sufficient condition in the nonradial case. The latter result provides an answer to a question posed by L. Hörmander. Our proof is different in the cases of odd and even dimensions. In the even dimensional case we make use of one classical formula from the theory of Bessel functions due to N. Ya. Sonin.

The Nadler-Quinn problem on accessible points of arc-like continua

Abstract:We show that if $X$ is an arc-like continuum, then for every point $x \in X$ there is a plane embedding of $X$ in which $x$ is an accessible point. This answers a question posed by Nadler in 1972, which has become known as the Nadler-Quinn problem in continuum theory. Towards this end, we develop the theories of truncations and contour factorizations of interval maps. As a corollary, we answer a question of Mayer from 1982 about inequivalent plane embeddings of indecomposable arc-like continua.

Abstract:In this paper we prove the following results in the plane. They are related to each other, while each of them has its own interest. First we obtain an $\epsilon_0$-increment on intersection between pencils of $\delta$-tubes, under non-concentration conditions. In fact we show it is equivalent to the discretized sum-product problem, thus the $\epsilon_0$ follows from Bourgain's celebrated result. Then we prove a couple of new results on radial projections. We also discussion about the dependence of $\epsilon_0$ and make a new conjecture. A tube condition on Frostman measures, after careful refinement, is also given.

Abstract:We obtain new descriptions of the null spaces of several projectively equivalent transforms in integral geometry. The paper deals with the hyperplane Radon transform, the totally geodesic transforms on the sphere and the hyperbolic space, the spherical slice transform, and the Cormack-Quinto spherical mean transform for spheres through the origin. The consideration extends to the corresponding dual transforms and the relevant exterior/interior modifications. The method relies on new results for the Gegenbauer-Chebyshev integrals, which generalize Abel type fractional integrals on the positive half-line.

Abstract:We show that a radial continuous valuation defined on the $n$-dimensional star bodies extends uniquely to a continuous valuation on the $n$-dimensional bounded star sets. Moreover, we provide an integral representation of every such valuation, in terms of the radial function, which is valid on the dense subset of the simple Borel star sets. We also show that every radial continuous valuation defined on the $n$-dimensional star bodies can be decomposed as a sum $V=V^+-V^-$, where both $V^+$ and $V^-$ are positive radial continuous valuations.

Putatively optimal projective spherical designs with little apparent symmetry

Abstract:We give some new explicit examples of putatively optimal projective spherical designs. i.e., ones for which there is numerical evidence that they are of minimal size. These form continuous families, and so have little apparent symmetry in general, which requires the introduction of new techniques for their construction. New examples of interest include an 11-point spherical (3, 3)-design for R 3 , and a 12-point spherical (2, 2)-design for R 4 given by four Mercedes-Benz frames that lie on equi-isoclinic planes. We also give results of an extensive numerical study to determine the nature of the real algebraic variety of optimal projective real spherical designs, and in particular when it is a single point (a unique design) or corresponds to an infinite family of designs.

A Fourier analytic approach to exceptional set estimates for orthogonal projections

Abstract:Marstrand's celebrated projection theorem gives the Hausdorff dimension of the orthogonal projection of a Borel set in Euclidean space for almost all orthogonal projections. It is straightforward to see that sets for which the Fourier and Hausdorff dimension coincide have no exceptional projections, that is, \emph{all} orthogonal projections satisfy the conclusion of Marstrand's theorem. With this in mind, one might believe that the Fourier dimension (or at least, Fourier decay) could be used to give better estimates for the Hausdorff dimension of the exceptional set in general. We obtain projection theorems and exceptional set estimates based on the Fourier spectrum; a family of dimensions that interpolates between the Fourier and Hausdorff dimensions. We apply these results to show that the Fourier spectrum can be used to improve several results for the Hausdorff dimension in certain cases, such as Ren--Wang's sharp bound for the exceptional set in the plane, Peres--Schlag's exceptional set bound and Bourgain--Oberlin's sharp $0$-dimensional exceptional set estimate.

Abstract:We study a skew product transformation associated to an irrational rotation of the circle [0,1]/~. This skew product keeps track of the number of times an orbit of the rotation lands in the two complementary intervals of {0,1/2} in the circle. We show that under certain conditions on the continued fraction expansion of the irrational number defining the rotation, the skew product transformation has certain dense orbits. This is in spite of the presence of numerous non-dense orbits. We use this to construct laminations on infinite type surfaces with exotic properties. In particular, we show that for every infinite type surface with an isolated planar end, there is an infinite clique of 2-filling rays based at that end. These 2-filling rays are relevant to Bavard--Walker's loop graphs.

Abstract:In this article, we give a unified proof of the end-point estimates of the totally-geodesic $k$-plane transform of radial functions on spaces of constant curvature. The problem of getting end-point estimates is not new and some results are available in literature. However, these results were obtained independently without much focus on the similarities between underlying geometries. We give a unified proof for the end-point estimates on spaces of constant curvature by making use of geometric ideas common to the spaces of constant curvature, and obtaining a unified formula for the $k$-plane transform of radial functions. We also give some inequalities for certain special functions as an application to one of our lemmata.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the following version of the famous Bernstein's theorem: Let $X\subset \mathbb R^{n+k}$ be a closed and connected set with Hausdorff dimension $n$. Assume that $X$ satisfies the monotonicity formula at $p\in X$. Then, the following statements are equivalent: (1) $X$ is an affine linear subspace; (2) $X$ is a definable set that is Lipschitz regular at infinity and its geometric tangent cone at infinity, $C(X,\infty)$, is a linear subspace; (3) $X$ is a definable set, blow-spherical regular at infinity and $C(X,\infty)$ is a linear subspace; (4) $X$ is a definable set that is Lipschitz normally embedded at infinity and $C(X,\infty)$ is a linear subspace; (5) the density of $X$ at infinity is 1. Consequently, we prove the following generalization of Bernstein's theorem: Let $X\subset \mathbb R^{n+1}$ be a closed and connected set with Hausdorff dimension $n$. Assume that $X$ satisfies the monotonicity formula at $p\in X$ and there are compact sets $K\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ and $\tilde K\subset \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ such that $X\setminus \tilde K$ is a minimal hypersurface that is the graph of a $C^2$-smooth function $u\colon \mathbb{R}^{n}\setminus K\to \mathbb{R}$. Assume that $u$ has bounded derivative whenever $n>7$. Then $X$ is a hyperplane. Several other results are also presented. For example, we generalize the o-minimal Chow's theorem, we prove that any entire complex analytic set that is bi-Lipschitz homeomorphic to a definable set in an o-minimal structure must be an algebraic set. We also obtain that Yau's Bernstein Problem, which says that an oriented stable complete minimal hypersurface in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ with $n\leq 6$ must be a hyperplane, holds true whether the hypersurface is a definable set in an o-minimal structure.
