Abstract:A vast class of exponential functions are shown to be deterministic. This class includes functions whose exponents are polynomial-like or "piece-wise" close to polynomials after differentiation. Many of these functions are proved to be disjoint from the M\"obius function.

Abstract:We show that a certain class of exponential functions have zero anqie entropy and study the Mobius disjointness of them. We show a result on the correlation of the Mobius function with polynomial phases in almost all short intervals and arithmetic progressions simultaneously. As an application, we give an equivalent condition of Sarnak's Mobius disjointness conjecture in terms of the correlation between the Mobius function and arithmetic functions realized in any deterministic flow in short intervals on average.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct a class of special Jacobi cocycles, some element of which is a measurable function defined on the high dimensional torus. We prove that no matter the underlying dynamics is the shift or the skew-shift, the non-perturbative positive Lyapunov exponent holds for any irrational frequency, when the coupling number is large. What's more, if the frequency becomes to be the Diophantine number, then the Lyapunov exponent is weak continuity in the energy.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce asymptotically periodic functions and study these functions from the point of view of operator algebras and dynamical systems. We show that the Möbius function is disjoint from any strongly asymptotically periodic functions. As a consequence, Sarnak's Möbius Disjointness Conjecture holds for all countable compact spaces. Whenever Sarnak's conjecture holds, we show that the Möbius function is disjoint from all asymptotically periodic functions.

Abstract:For $\tau>2$, let $T$ be a $C^\tau$ skew product map of the form $(x+\alpha,y+h(x))$ on $\mathbb T^2$ over a rotation of the circle. We show that if $T$ preserves a measurable section, then it is disjoint to the Möbius sequence. This in particular implies that any non-uniquely ergodic $C^\tau$ skew product map on $\mathbb T^2$ has a finite index factor that is disjoint to the Möbius sequence.

Abstract:We obtain that Sarnak's M\"{o}bius Disjointness Conjecture holds for product flows between affine linear flows on compact abelian groups of zero topological entropy and a class of rigid dynamical systems. To prove this, we show an estimate for the average value of the product of the M\"obius function and any polynomial phase over short intervals and arithmetic progressions simultaneously. In addition, we prove that the logarithmically averaged M\"obius Disjointness Conjecture holds for the product flow between any affine linear flow on a compact abelian group of zero entropy and any rigid dynamical system. As an application, we show that the logarithmically averaged M\"obius Disjointness Conjecture holds for every Lipschitz continuous skew product dynamical system on $\mathbb{T}^2$ over a rotation of the circle.

Abstract:Let $\mathbb{T}$ be the unit circle and $\Gamma \backslash G$ the $3$-dimensional Heisenberg nilmanifold. We prove that a class of skew products on $\mathbb{T} \times \Gamma \backslash G$ are distal, and that the Möbius function is linearly disjoint from these skew products. This verifies the Möbius Disjointness Conjecture of Sarnak.

Abstract:We provide a necessary and sufficient condition under which the set defined by a Möbius transformation of positive integers is a set of multiplicative recurrence. A Khinchin-type lower bound is also established. This not only answers a question of Donoso--Le--Moreira--Sun but also strengthens their result. The key input in our proof is Tao's logarithmically averaged correlations of non-pretentious multiplicative functions.

Abstract:Let $f: \mathbb{N} \to \mathbb{C}$ be a multiplicative function for which $$ \sum_{p : \, |f(p)| \neq 1} \frac{1}{p} = \infty. $$ We show under this condition alone that for any integer $h \neq 0$ the set $$ \{n \in \mathbb{N} : f(n) = f(n+h) \neq 0\} $$ has logarithmic density 0. We also prove a converse result, along with an application to the Fourier coefficients of holomorphic cusp forms. The proof involves analysing the value distribution of $f$ using the compositions $|f|^{it}$, relying crucially on various applications of Tao's theorem on logarithmically-averaged correlations of non-pretentious multiplicative functions. Further key inputs arise from the inverse theory of sumsets in continuous additive combinatorics.

Abstract:Sarnak's M\"obius disjointness conjecture states that M\"obius function is disjoint to any zero entropy dynamics. We prove that M\"obius disjointness conjecture holds for one-frequency analytic quasi-periodic cocycles which are almost reducible, which extend \cite{LS15,W17} to the noncommutative case. Abstract:Let Möb be the biholomorphic automorphism group of the unit disc of the complex plane, $\mathcal{H}$ be a complex separable Hilbert space and $\mathcal{U}(\mathcal{H})$ be the group of all unitary operators. Suppose $\mathcal{H}$ is a reproducing kernel Hilbert space consisting of holomorphic functions over the poly-disc $\mathbb D^n$ and contains all the polynomials. If $\pi : \mbox{Möb} \to \mathcal{U}(\mathcal{H})$ is a multiplier representation, then we prove that there exist $\lambda_1, \lambda_2, \ldots, \lambda_n > 0$ such that $\pi$ is unitarily equivalent to $(\otimes_{i=1}^{n} D_{\lambda_i}^+)|_{\mbox{Möb}}$, where each $D_{\lambda_i}^+$ is a holomorphic discrete series representation of Möb. As an application, we prove that if $(T_1, T_2)$ is a Möb - homogeneous pair in the Cowen - Douglas class of rank $1$ over the bi-disc, then each $T_i$ posses an upper triangular form with respect to a decomposition of the Hilbert space. In this upper triangular form of each $T_i$, the diagonal operators are identified. We also prove that if $\mathcal{H}$ consists of symmetric (resp. anti-symmetric) holomorphic functions over $\mathbb D^2$ and contains all the symmetric (resp. anti-symmetric) polynomials, then there exists $\lambda > 0$ such that $\pi \cong \oplus_{m = 0}^\infty D^+_{\lambda + 4m}$ (resp. $\pi \cong \oplus_{m=0}^\infty D^+_{\lambda + 4m + 2}$).

Proofs of ergodicity of piecewise Möbius interval maps using planar extensions

Abstract:We give two results for deducing dynamical properties of piecewise Möbius interval maps from their related planar extensions. First, eventual expansivity and the existence of an ergodic invariant probability measure equivalent to Lebesgue measure both follow from mild finiteness conditions on the planar extension along with a new property ``bounded non-full range" used to relax traditional Markov conditions. Second, the ``quilting" operation to appropriately nearby planar systems, introduced by Kraaikamp and co-authors, can be used to prove several key dynamical properties of a piecewise Möbius interval map. As a proof of concept, we apply these results to recover known results on the well-studied Nakada $\alpha$-continued fractions; we obtain similar results for interval maps derived from an infinite family of non-commensurable Fuchsian groups.

Distribution of neighboring values of the Liouville and Möbius functions

Abstract:Let $\lambda(n)$ and $\mu(n)$ denote the Liouville function and the Möbius function, respectively. In this study, relationships between the values of $\lambda(n)$ and $\lambda(n+h)$ up to $n\leq10^8$ for $1\leq h\leq1,000$ are explored. Chowla's conjecture predicts that the conditional expectation of $\lambda(n+h)$ given $\lambda(n)=1$ for $1\leq n\leq X$ converges to the conditional expectation of $\lambda(n+h)$ given $\lambda(n)=-1$ for $1\leq n\leq X$ as $X\rightarrow\infty$. However, for finite $X$, these conditional expectations are different. The observed difference, together with the significant difference in $\chi^2$ tests of independence, reveals hidden additive properties among the values of the Liouville function. Similarly, such additive structures for $\mu(n)$ for square-free $n$'s are identified. These findings pave the way for developing possible, and hopefully efficient, additive algorithms for these functions. The potential existence of fast, additive algorithms for $\lambda(n)$ and $\mu(n)$ may eventually provide scientific evidence supporting the belief that prime factorization of large integers should not be too difficult. For $1\leq h\leq1,000$, the study also tested the convergence speeds of Chowla's conjecture and found no relation on $h$.

Abstract:In the last years the attention towards topological dynamical properties of highly discontinuous maps has increased significantly. In [D.Corona, A. Della Corte. The critical exponent functions. Comptes Rendus Mathématique, 360(G4), 315-332, 2022], a class of densely discontinuous interval maps, called "critical exponent maps", was introduced. These maps are defined through the word-combinatorics concept of critical exponent applied to the binary expansion of reals and show highly chaotically properties as well as some challenging problems. In this paper we identify an error in the proof of Theorem 7 in [D.Corona, A. Della Corte. The critical exponent functions. Comptes Rendus Mathématique, 360(G4), 315-332, 2022], a purely combinatorial result which in fact does not hold. We show that most of the results in [D.Corona, A. Della Corte. The critical exponent functions. Comptes Rendus Mathématique, 360(G4), 315-332, 2022], obtained there through Theorem 7, can be recovered. Moreover, we propose as a conjecture a weaker form of Theorem 7.

Strong probabilistic stability in holomorphic families of endomorphisms of $\mathbb{P}^k(\mathbb{C})$ and polynomial-like maps

Abstract:We prove that, in stable families of endomorphisms of $\mathbb{P}^k(\mathbb{C})$, all invariant measures whose measure-theoretic entropy is strictly larger than $(k-1)\log d$ at a given parameter can be followed holomorphically with the parameter in all the parameter space. As a consequence, almost all points (with respect to any such measure at any parameter) in the Julia set can be followed holomorphically without intersections. This generalizes previous results by Berteloot, Dupont, and the first author for the measure of maximal entropy, and provides a parallel in this setting to the probabilistic stability of Hénon maps by Berger-Dujardin-Lyubich. Our proof relies both on techniques from the theory of stability/bifurcation in any dimension and on an explicit lower bound for the Lyapunov exponents for an ergodic measure in terms of its measure-theoretic entropy, due to de Thélin and Dupont. A local version of our result holds also for all measures supported on the Julia set with just strictly positive Lyapunov exponents and not charging the post-critical set. Analogous results hold in families of polynomial-like maps of large topological degree. In this case, as part of our proof, we also give a sufficient condition for the positivity of the Lyapunov exponents of an ergodic measure for a polynomial-like map in any dimension in term of its measure-theoretic entropy, generalizing to this setting the analogous result by de Thélin and Dupont valid on $\mathbb{P}^k(\mathbb{C})$.

Möbius Inversion and Duality for Summations of Stable Graphs

Abstract:Using the stratifications of Deligne-Mumford moduli spaces $\overline{\mathcal M}_{g,n}$ indexed by stable graphs, we introduce a partially ordered set of stable graphs by defining a partial ordering on the set of connected stable graphs of genus $g$ with $n$ external edges. By modifying the usual definition of zeta function and Möbius function of a poset, we introduce generalized ($\mathbb Q$-valued) zeta function and generalized ($\mathbb Q$-valued) Möbius function of the poset of stable graphs. We use them to proved a generalized Möbius inversion formula for functions on the poset of stable graphs. Two applications related to duality in earlier work are also presented.
