Abstract:In this study, we employed density functional theory coupled with the full-potential linearized augmented plane-wave method (FP-LAPW) to investigate the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of the Ti 2 FeAs alloy adopting the Hg 2 CuTi-type structure. Our findings demonstrate that all the examined structures exhibit ferromagnetic (FM) behaviour. By conducting electronic band structure calculations, we observed an energy gap of 0.739 eV for Ti 2 FeAs in the spin-down state and metallic intersections at the Fermi level in the spin-up state. These results suggest the half-metallic (HM) nature of Ti 2 FeAs, where the Ti-d and Fe-d electronic states play a significant role near the Fermi level. Additionally, the obtained total magnetic moments are consistent with the Slater–Pauling rule ( M tot = Z tot − 18), indicating 100% spin polarization for these compounds. To explore their optical properties, we employed the dielectric function to compute various optical parameters, including absorption spectra, energy-loss spectra, refractive index, reflectivity, and conductivity. Furthermore, various thermodynamic parameters were evaluated at different temperatures and pressures. The results obtained from the elastic parameters reveal the anisotropic and ductile nature of the Ti 2 FeAs compound. These findings suggest that Ti 2 FeAs has potential applications in temperature-tolerant devices and optoelectronic devices as a UV absorber.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper attempts to address the problem of studying the structural stability, mechanical properties, electronic properties, thermodynamic properties, and optical properties of Ti₂FeAs Heusler alloy using ab initio methods to evaluate its potential applications in high-temperature tolerant devices and optoelectronic devices. Specifically, the main objectives of the study include: 1. **Structural Stability**: Investigate the structural stability of Ti₂FeAs using Density Functional Theory (DFT) combined with the Full-Potential Linearized Augmented Plane Wave (FP-LAPW) method, particularly focusing on the energy differences in non-magnetic and ferromagnetic states. 2. **Electronic Properties**: Explore the half-metallic characteristics of Ti₂FeAs through electronic band structure calculations, including the energy gap and the electronic states near the Fermi level. 3. **Magnetic Properties**: Evaluate the total magnetic moment of Ti₂FeAs and verify whether it conforms to the Slater-Pauling rule to confirm its 100% spin polarization characteristics. 4. **Mechanical Properties**: Calculate the elastic constants and other related parameters to assess the mechanical stability and anisotropy of the material. 5. **Thermodynamic Properties**: Assess various thermodynamic parameters at different temperatures and pressures to understand the thermal stability of the material. 6. **Optical Properties**: Calculate various optical parameters such as absorption spectra, energy loss spectra, refractive index, reflectivity, and conductivity through the dielectric function to evaluate its potential applications in optoelectronic devices. These research results will help understand the potential applications of Ti₂FeAs in high-temperature tolerant devices and optoelectronic devices, particularly in its performance as an ultraviolet absorber.
