Abstract:AIM: To analyze the incidence and pathological characteristics of gastric cancer in young patients and to explore the possibility of screening and preventing hereditary gastric carcinoma.METHODS: The data of 1839 gastric cancer inpatients between Feb.1983 and Feb.2003 in Xijing Hospital,Fourth Military Medical University were collected.The incidence characteristics included sex,age,pathological type,and hereditary effects were analyzed.RESULTS: The youth with the hereditary background or in hereditary gastric cancer (HGC) kindred had a high possibility of developing the disease(39/189 vs 69/1454,P0.0001;16/189 vs 21/1454,P0.0001)and the male had a higher probability.Diffused gastric cancer was common in the young patients (40.49%).By pathological types,the gastric cancer mostly fell in poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma,Krukenberg tumor and signet-ring cell carcinoma,all of which had a bad prognosis.CONCLUSION: The gastric cancers in the young presents an increase tendency with poor differentiation and hereditary factor.
